Sanitation and Facility Issues Plague Students at Gandhi Medical College
Hyderabad: Sanitation remains a longstanding issue for students of Gandhi medical college, despite it being raised during TJUDA strikes in June. There is a terrible lack of basic washroom facilities in the college and hostels, rue students. While day scholars avoid using the unclean and unhygienic college washrooms, the hostellers have no other option but to manage with what is available. A third year MBBS student from Nagarkurnool, who stays at the boys hostel, said The hostel has zero facilities. I have been staying here for three years and managing in abysmal conditions, he said. For the first and second years, five students are crammed together in one room. It is only when they enter the third year that students can opt for single rooms. All students have to use common washrooms. As there is no water supply in the morning, we can only take a bath in the afternoon or evening. There is no hot water provision in winters, while in summers it is a torture as rooms have no coolers or ACs. Washrooms do not have proper taps, mugs and buckets and most of their doors do not have bolts. At night, stray dogs roam around in the corridors, one hosteller said. Similar pitiable conditions prevail in washrooms across departments and boys and girls hostels. Once, during an emergency, I went to the hostel washroom. Just as I opened the door, I saw a huge rat staring back at me! a third-year girl said about a nightmarish experience. Those apart, the girls are subject to other traumas. There are no sanitary pad dispensers or incinerators There is only one common dustbin, which is always overflowing, a female student said. Other complaints include lack of quality food in the hostel mess. All UG students go to the PG mess as they provide quality food, another student said. When administration is told about these conditions, their reply is that government colleges are like this only. Despite being top rankers, we have to live in such disgusting conditions, while our friends who scored less are studying in private colleges that boast of world-class facilities, a third-year student said.

After alighting a bus at the MGBS, he was approached by an auto driver while waiting for the taxi. When Abhishek boarded the auto, he realised there were two more people in it other than the driver. The police said the driver stopped his vehicle in a secluded place near Sanathnagar Railway Station. Among the three, one of them took a knife, threatened Abhishek and demanded money. Andhra: Kappatralla villagers welcome government decision to stop uranium exploration
KURNOOL: Despite assurances from officials and ministers regarding uranium excavations, Kappatralla villagers continued their protests, as these statements failed to instil confidence among the people. In response, the State government issued a Government Order (GO) on Friday, directing an immediate halt to all excavation activities in the area and declaring that no further excavations should take place. The announcement was met with jubilant celebrations in these villages, as people saw it as a victory for their unity and resilience. This decision marks a significant moment in the ongoing debate between development and environmental sustainability, with Kappatrallas villagers proving that collective voice can bring about meaningful change. It is pertinent to know that for the last few weeks, nearly ten villages surrounding Kappatralla in Devanakonda mandal of Kurnool district organised protests, sit-ins and rallies, demanding the cancellation of exploration permissions. Echoing their concerns, environmental activists and local leaders highlighted the long-term consequences of uranium mining, including radiation exposure and water contamination. According to Kappatralla village sarpanch Chenama Naidu, the area in question encompasses 468.25 hectares of land belonging to the forest department under the Kappatralla Reserve Forest in the Pathikonda Section of the Adoni Range and as per reports, the Union government has approved the drilling of 68 boreholes to assess the uranium reserves beneath the surface. However, the exploration is contentious as it requires permission from the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, particularly because excavations are set to occur in forested areas. During the previous government, the Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) reportedly sought approval for drilling on 6.80 hectares of forest land, a process that was kept secret, claim local people. The explorations, aimed at uncovering valuable uranium deposits, sparked widespread fear among villagers about the potential environmental damage and health risks. A villager from Kappatralla village said their fight was not just for them but for the next generation.

Hurt by the governments decision, which was informed to the AP High Court, local leaders, advocates, and civil rights groups are gearing up for protests, accusing the government of betraying its promises and ignoring the regions long-standing demands. The institutions, which started functioning in Kurnool in 2021, and gained significant public trust, are now at risk of being shifted, a move seen as undermining the efforts to decentralise development in AP. Bharath mentioned that he had discussed this issue with IT Minister N Lokesh and reassured the public that these institutions will remain in Kurnool. Legal Briefs | Telangana HC seeks action against Qazi for child marriages
Hyderabad : Justice Surepalli Nanda of the Telangana High Court has directed the principal secretary of the minority welfare department to take appropriate legal action against Qazi Mohammad Zaheeruddin, who is accused of performing marriages between young girls and older Arab sheikhs. This directive comes in response to a writ petition filed by Ahmed Shujauddin Quadri, a government-appointed Qazi serving in the Jahanuma Zone (Ghazibanda). Quadri challenged the authorities' failure to act on a report submitted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in July 2021, which allegedly detailed misconduct by Zaheeruddin. According to Quadri, since his appointment in 2008, Zaheeruddin, who serves as the Additional Qazi of Qila Mohammednagar, appointed several Naib Qazis (assistant qazis) to assist in conducting Muslim marriages. Quadri alleged that Zaheeruddin and his Naib Qazis were involved in performing illegal marriages between young Muslim girls and older Arab sheikhs. Multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed against the Naib Qazis for facilitating child marriages. Despite being suspended in 2017 for similar offenses, Zaheeruddin allegedly continued these activities. Three additional FIRs were registered against him for performing child marriages after his suspension. Quadri expressed frustration over the lack of action taken against Zaheeruddin, leading him to approach the High Court once again. In an earlier proceeding, the High Court had directed the assistant commissioner of police to investigate the matter based on Quadri's representation. The resulting report was submitted to the commissioner of police and subsequently forwarded to the principal secretary of the minority welfare department. However, Quadri alleged that no action was taken after the submission of the report, prompting the latest court intervention. In his defence, Zaheeruddin argued that no complaints were made against him by any victims or their families, suggesting that the allegations were motivated by personal vendetta. He claimed that a boundary dispute over their respective jurisdictions as qazis had led to animosity between him and Quadri. Zaheeruddin contended that Quadri had been filing false and frivolous complaints against him as a form of revenge. He also pointed out that he had filed a separate writ petition challenging his suspension by the State Minorities Welfare Department through a Government Order dated September 25, 2017. Zaheeruddin asserted that his suspension was carried out without giving him an opportunity to present his side, violating principles of natural justice. Furthermore, he stated that no charges had been formally filed against him, as investigations were still ongoing and police had yet to file charge sheets in the said crimes. After reviewing submissions from both parties, Justice Nanda observed that the respondent department's response included details of several cases registered against Zaheeruddin and his Naib Qazis. Taking into account all allegations and the report from the assistant commissioner of police, the judge directed the minority welfare department to initiate appropriate action against Zaheeruddin under Section 2 of the Khazi Act, 1880. HC orders release of SI detained in Nashik The Telangana High Court ordered immediate release of Sadam Krishna, sub-inspector, detained under the guise of registering an FIR by Mumbai Naka police station at Nashik with regard to a custodial death. Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy was dealing with a writ petition filed by N. Gopi Krishna, the brother of the detainee. Y. Soma Srinath Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, argued that the deceased, Vijay Budhu Dirari, was a criminal involved in approximately 27 cases including one registered at Shamshabad police station. The petitioner would contend that the detainee was acting within his official duties and travelled to Nashik, Maharashtra, to execute the arrest in a case registered by the Shamshabad police station. The Station House Officer at Pachavati Police Station in Nashik was duly notified before and after the arrest. However, while the deceased was being brought to Hyderabad, in transit, he allegedly committed suicide at a guest house. Following the incident, Mumbainaka police station in Nashik started an inquiry under provisions Criminal Procedure Code 1973 to investigate the circumstances of the death. The inquiry, conducted by the additional superintendent of police, state CID Nashik, reportedly concluded that the death of the deceased occurred while in police custody. Consequently, a case was registered, and charges were altered among other things to include abetment of suicide. Counsel for the petitioner contended that the prosecution under Section 306 IPC was unsustainable due to the protection provided under Section 197 CrPC, which shields public officials acting in their official capacity. The judge prima facie found that the charges under Section 306 IPC to be unsustainable and directed the commissioner of police, Nashik Commissionerate, and others to forthwith release the sub-inspector. However, the judge required that the detainee shall report to the Station House Officer, Bachupally police station, every alternate day between 9 am and 10 am until further orders. The matter will now be heard on December 9. ZPHS headmaster not to dismiss cooks Justice T. Vinod Kumar of Telangana High Court passed an interim order preventing the headmaster of Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) for boys in Nagarkurnool, from terminating the services of workers responsible for preparing mid-day meals, without adhering to due process. This interim order came in response to a writ plea filed by Kubra Fatima and seven others, who are cooks and helpers in the school. The petitioners allege that the school authorities abruptly and unjustly terminated their employment and contended that they were providing mid-day meal services at the school for over 10 years. The case of the petitioners is that on November 11, 2024, the school headmaster instructed them to discontinue their services without any formal notice, inquiry, or explanation. The petitioners argued that this action violated principles of natural justice and contravened guidelines established in a GO dated November 25, 2002, which regulate employment practices for mid-day meal workers. In response, the Government Pleader appearing for the respondent authorities contended that Fatima, one of the petitioners, previously submitted a letter on June 14, 2024, requesting to step down from her duties, and presented a copy of this letter to the court. However, the petitioners disputed this claim, contending that no formal notice or termination order was ever issued. After hearing the parties, the judge passed an interim direction prohibiting the school authorities from terminating the remaining cooks and helpers without following proper procedures. The judge also directed the respondent authorities to file their responses.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim's parents, the police have registered a case under the POCSO Act against the accused. According to the victim's family, the girl's parents were working in a cotton mill in Karnataka with their son and had left their daughter, a class eight student, in the care of known individuals in the village. Approximately ten days ago, while the girl was asleep at home around 11 pm, Hussaini, along with T. Vinod and Majjiga Suri, allegedly attempted to rape her. Senior TD leaders feel ignored for nominated posts
Telugu Desam logo. Telugu Desam logo. Kurnool: Several senior leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam from the undivided Kurnool district are upset as they were bypassed in the two recent lists released by the party for filling the nominated posts. District TD president Tikka Reddy, former MLAs Kotla Sujathamma, KE Prabhakar, Meenakshi Naidu, Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy, Y Pratap Reddy, Y Vishnu Vardhan Reddy and others were not included in the lists finalised by the party leadership. Many of these leaders had played vital roles in the 2024 elections that returned the party to power in the state. They say their long-stand commitment to the party was not taken into consideration. The TDP-JSP-BJP alliance government recently announced appointments to various caste-based corporations as also chairmanships and directorships. Notable omissions also include former ministers like KE Prabhakar and Yerasu Pratap Reddy, former Salivahana Corporation chairman Tuggali Nagendra, party leader Gudise Krishnamma and ex-district unit secretary Nageswara Rao Yadav. These leaders are piqued over the failure of the leadership to recognize and reward seniority in the party. A balanced approach of including both senior and new leaders is fine. Hard work for the party should be a deciding factor, but past contributions to the party should also be a yardstick, a senior leader said.

Andhra govt cracks whip on YSRCP: Multiple arrests, legal action over derogatory social media posts
The TDP-led government in Andhra Pradesh has launched a crackdown over the past week, targeting social media activists linked to the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) over alleged misuse of social media for character assassination and defamation of women. The Andhra Pradesh police action comes as Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu issued a stern warning to those posting inappropriate content on social media, stating, If anyone behaves like an animal, the government is going to treat them like an animal. The week-long police clampdown has resulted in the detention of over 100 YSRCP activists across the state for allegedly posting disparaging content on social media. The authorities have also made multiple arrests, issued hundreds of lookout notices, and registered cases against activists linked to the opposition party. The police action comes amid a wave of alleged objectionable content posted by these activists, targeting CM Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and their families, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita, APCC President YS Sharmila Reddy, and family members of the late YS Vivekananda Reddy, as well as other women. YSRCP party leaders are alleging that more than 650 notices were served to its party activists, filed 147 cases and arrested 49 persons over social media posts in the past one week. EXPLAINED | What led to Andhra government's big crackdown on YSRCP activists for social media 'abuse' The police allege that YSRCPs social media network, operating from the Tadepalli party headquarters, engaged in these activities statewide. Investigations have reportedly traced these operations back to Kadapa. Among those arrested is 38-year-old Varra Ravindra Reddy , a YSRCP social media activist, who has been accused of posting offensive content targeting the Andhra Pradesh governments top brass and their families. On Tuesday, he was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Police say Ravindra used social media to spread defamatory content, fabricate explicit images, and incite unrest among various communities. Ravindra managed around 40 YouTube channels, which were used to spread vulgar content, particularly targeting women leaders. The investigation has identified 45 individuals, including Reddy, involved in these activities. His actions, coordinated by a network of supporters, were seen as promoting division and undermining social harmony, officials said. Police say that Ravindra has confessed to posting defamatory content targeting opposition leaders and their families on social media platforms since the general elections, allegedly under the instructions of YSRC social media in-charge Sajjala Bhargav Reddy. The remand report revealed several details , including Bhargav Reddys alleged coercion of Ravindra to post objectionable content against the judiciary for its verdict on the proposal of three capitals by the previous YSRC government. Ravindra reportedly stated that his social media credentials had been controlled by Bhargav Reddy since the start of the operation. He accused Bhargav Reddy of directing him to post defamatory content against YS Vijayamma, YS Sharmila Reddy, and N Suneetha, leading to complaints against him in Hyderabad. Ravindra further claimed that Bandi Raghava Reddy, PA to MP YS Avinash Reddy, provided him with the content for the posts. He also alleged that both Avinash Reddy and Raghava Reddy frequently discussed strategies for these posts. Meanwhile, special police teams have been formed to arrest other prominent figures, including Bhargav Reddy, Arjun Reddy, a party activist and close aide of Jagan Mohan Reddy, and Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddys aide Raghava Reddy, as confirmed by Kurnool Range DIG Koya Praveen. Following these developments, several social media activists have reportedly gone into hiding. Similarly, the police on Wednesday summoned film director Ram Gopal Varma for questioning in connection with the posting of morphed photographs of CM Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan on social media. On November 11, Prakasam district police registered a case against the director for allegedly posting those morphed photographs on social media. Arrest of Varra Ravindra Reddy sparks fear among YSRC social media workers Last week, CM Chandrababu Naidu criticised the reckless language used on social media, particularly against women, and vowed that those responsible would face consequences. The language on social media is reckless. They are making objectionable comments about women. Should we not take action? Should I ignore it? They have become criminals, he said at a public meeting in Amaravati on November 7. The CM alleged that YSRCP members were using social media to post obscene messages intended to demoralise the administration. Naidu also warned that the state government would examine both local and international laws to take action against individuals who engage in character assassination and said that freedom of speech does not justify defaming women. Two days later, the Andhra Pradesh CM reiterated his warning that the government will take firm action against those targeting women, even if they were from the YSRCP. You may have no respect for your family members, be it your mother or sister. But I have respect for them. Do not post anything that disrespects women, including the wives and daughters of the YSR Congress Party. I will not tolerate it if it happens, he told the media in Srisailam on November 9. Similarly, state Home Minister V Anitha, who has been a target of the social media attacks, directed police to act tough on abusive social media posts against political leaders, women, and other sections of society. She also said the government is committed to exploring special legislative measures for the effective prosecution of those involved in social media abuse. Meanwhile, APCC chief Sharmila on Tuesday accused her brother and YSRCP supremo Jagan of encouraging the party's activists to make indecent posts against her on social media. Addressing the press in Vijayawada, Sharmila said, They (social media activists) spoke as they liked, about me, Sunitha (late YS Vivekananda Reddy's daughter), and mother (YS Vijayamma). Jagan Mohan Reddy himself told them to make those indecent posts. Observing that social media activists have emerged as a Satanic army, she called for action and regulation on this virtual medium. Though some social media activists have been nabbed, Sharmila said the actual perpetrators behind them should be apprehended and punished. Following the series of arrests, Jagan has responded to the police action, claiming that his party is waging a war against demonic yellow media and its unethical social media. Asserting that truth would prevail, he claimed that illegal detentions, undue harassment, and false cases had become the order of the day. The YSRCP has also issued strict guidelines to its workers and sympathisers not to use abusive words or post derogatory content involving women, and all social media activists should act in a dignified manner. Posts can be sarcastic. They can question the government on policy matters, but dont use unparliamentary language against women. Morally also, it is not good. They (the government and TDP) are using this against us as a tool, said YSRC legal wing president M Manohar Reddy in an 'X' spaces session conducted by the party's social media wing. Manohar said the party's legal wing has started digging through social media posts made by the TDP's social media teams over the past several months, claiming that the objectionable posts made by TDP social media teams were much higher than those made by YSRC teams. He also made assurances on behalf of Jagan that the party would fight legally against police cases to any extent. (With additional inputs from ENS, PTI and ANI)

YSRC activist Varra remanded to 14-day judicial custody
KADAPA: YSRC activist Varra Ravindra Reddy, who is accused of posting objectionable content on social media platforms, was produced before Second Additional Junior Civil Judge Bhargavi in the early hours of Tuesday, along with two others accused of sheltering him despite knowing his criminal background. The judge ordered a 14-day remand for Ravindra Reddy, while other two -- Gurrampati Venkata Subba Reddy and Gurajala Uday Kumar Reddy -- were issued notices under Section 41(A) of CrPC and granted bail. Around 10 advocates from the YSRC, appearing for the accused, sought bail for the trio. However, the judge denied bail, and remanded Varra for 14 days. According to the remand report, Varra confessed to have been posting defamatory content targeting opposition leaders and their families on social media platforms since the general elections, allegedly under the instructions of YSRC social media incharge Sajjala Bhargav Reddy. During the hearing, Varra claimed that he was subjected to severe police torture, prompting the judge to order a medical examination at RIMS Hospital. After the medical examination, he was shifted to Kadapa Central Jail under tight security. The remand report revealed several details, including Bhargav Reddys alleged coercion of Varra to post objectionable content against the judiciary for its verdict on the proposal of three capitals by the previous YSRC government. Varra reportedly stated that his social media credentials had been controlled by Bhargav Reddy since the start of the operation. He accused Bhargav Reddy of directing him to post defamatory content against YS Vijayamma, YS Sharmila Reddy and N Suneetha, leading to complaints against him in Hyderabad. Varra further claimed that Bandi Raghava Reddy, PA of MP YS Avinash Reddy, provided him the content for the posts. He also alleged that both Avinash Reddy and Raghava Reddy frequently discussed strategies for these posts. The remand report disclosed that in 2020, under directions from the I-PAC team, Varra and others made posts targeting individuals, who criticised YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during debates on TV channels. District-level conveners operated under the guidance of social media convenor Vivek Reddy. Varra disclosed that he received a monthly salary from Raghava Reddy for these social media activities. It may be noted here that Pulivendula police arrested the trio on Monday. Kurnool Range DIG K Praveen confirmed the arrests at the DPO office in Kadapa.

Key Legal Bodies in Kurnool Remain Headless
Kurnool: Several key legal bodies in Kurnool, including the Lokayukta, AP State Human Rights Commission and the Electricity Regulatory Commission, remain without appointed heads. The tenures of the previous heads have ended and the state government is yet to nominate new officials, leaving these institutions without effective governance. The AP State Human Rights Commission, initially headquartered in Hyderabad, was relocated to Kurnool following the state governments decision to make the city a judicial capital. The previous government had appointed members to the Commission in 2021 after a two-year delay, filling the roles of chairperson, judicial member and non-judicial member. However, their terms ended in March 2024, leaving the Commission inactive in terms of addressing human rights issues since then. The Lokayukta, which handles public complaints on corruption and misconduct in government bodies, was led by Justice P. Lakshmana Reddy until September 14, 2024. After his retirement, Upa Lokayukta P. Rajani has taken over interim responsibilities. The Electricity Regulatory Commission, previously headed by Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy, has also been without leadership after his term ended last month. Despite the governments initial commitment in 2019 to designate Kurnool as a judicial centre and systematically develop it as a legal hub, the delay in appointments has left these institutions unable to function fully and effectively. The absence of leadership has led to a backlog of complaints and unresolved issues, impacting citizens and organisations seeking recourse through these legal bodies.

More Urdu schools have been established under the Roshini scheme. The credit for establishing Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad on 200 acres during the United AP state goes to chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, he said. Second list of nominated posts leaves many disappointed in three Rayalaseema districts
KADAPA/ANANTAPUR/KURNOOL: The second list of nominated posts released by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has left many aspirants of the NDA coalition in the erstwhile undivided Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool districts of Rayalaseema region disappointed. The post of Kadapa RTC Zone Chairman has been given to Anantapur TDP leader Poola Nagaraju, which has raised eyebrows, considering the absence of representation from Kadapa. Additionally, two corporation chairperson posts have been allotted to Railway Koduru Assembly constituency in the erstwhile united Kadapa district. However, there has been no place for Kadapa legislators in the State Cabinet, and no one from the district has been made Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust Board member, which has fuelled further discontent. In the first list of nominated posts, Kadapa was meted out a raw deal. The disappointment has continued in the second list also as no local leaders have found a place in it. During the 2024 general elections, the TDP achieved an impressive victory in Kadapa, winning five out of the seven Assembly segments. The allotment of corporation chairperson posts to TDP aspirants of Kadapa might have helped the party strengthen its base further in the district, a political analyst observed. Only a few leaders like former MLC Bachala Pullaiah from Proddatur and BJP district president Vangala Sashibhushan Reddy got director posts. However, Pullaiah wrote a letter to the Chief Minister expressing his unwillingness to accept the directors post. After the release of the second list, several leaders, including TDP Politburo member R Srinivasa Reddy, former MLAs M Linga Reddy and K Vijayamma, as well as several other party veterans from various constituencies, are said to have expressed their dissatisfaction. However, they seem to be unable to voice their discontent openly as the TDP leaderships decision is final in the party matters, the analyst said. Despite intense lobbying, several senior TDP leaders from Anantapur district have failed to get nominated posts much to their disappointment. In the second list, Jana Sena Party district president TC Varun and former Zilla Parishad chairperson Poola Nagaraju of TDP have only been given nominated posts. Many senior TDP, JSP and BJP leaders have been left out. One notable leader among the disappointed is said to be Sunil from Madakasira, who lost his TDP Assembly ticket at the last minute. On the other hand, several TDP leaders of the erstwhile undivided Kurnool district have expressed their disappointment after being overlooked for nominated posts. Notable leaders who expressed their dissatisfaction, include Kurnool district TDP president P Tikka Reddy, former MLAs KE Prabhakar, Kotla Sujathamma, Meenakshi Naidu, Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy, Yerasu Pratap Reddy, and senior leader Yeduru Vishnu Vardhan Reddy.

NETA NATTER | KTR WARNS BABUS OF FUTURE CONSEQUENCES
The devil is in the details and, if you happen to be in politics, the fine print can end up being the devil. Appearing to have to contend with this is K.T. Rama Rao, BRS working president, now in the Opposition, and wearing a new protector-of-the-bureaucratic- conscience hat. KTR recently advised bureaucrats, IAS babus to be precise, to think twice, if not thrice, before signing files per orders from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. A warning followed this advice. Any overzealous compliance could lead to job risks, investigations, and career nosedives when (or if) the BRS returned to power in four years. Ironical, is the buzzword that quickly flew around in Telanganas corridors of power, with bureaucrats, some with raised eyebrows, and others with a quiet chuckle, wondering if KTR was experiencing a memory lapse regarding his own alleged nudges during his time as municipal and IT minister during the BRS regime. Senior IAS officers like Arvind Kumar and Jayesh Ranjan, who, its rumoured, were gently encouraged by KTR to clear files on big-ticket items like the Formula E Race, and IT networking for the new Secretariat, now find themselves in the uncomfortable glare of the ACB, Vigilance and the ED. Back then, KTR is said to have reassured them that their loyalty would be handsomely rewarded once the BRS clinched its third term in 2023. But that third term never materialised, leaving those officers wondering if theyre the punchline in KTRs political story. For the bureaucrats caught in the crossfire, its unclear which KTR to believe the minister who promised rewards, or the Opposition leader wielding caution. The question doing the rounds now in the IAS community is that if the BRS rises again, will KTRs tolerance for rubber-stamping be as short-lived as his political memories. PLOT OWNERS TOLD TO CLEAN UP THEIR ACT Vacant plots around town, ignored by owners, are now raising a stink, not just from the growing heaps of garbage, but from a brewing controversy. Municipal officials across Khammam are flooded with complaints from residents who say that empty plots have become dumping grounds, turning into a public nuisance and a breeding hub for mosquitoes. After grappling with complaint after complaint, Khammam district collector Muzammil Khan recently devised an eyebrow-raising solution. The strategy? Get tough on absent owners by making a statement, literally. Khan issued orders that if owners failed to clean up their plots after a warning, municipal workers would erect bold new signages declaring, This plot belongs to the government, and trespassers will be prosecuted. According to Khan, the municipal staff would issue a stern but friendly warning first, giving owners a chance to clean up within a deadline. But if they drag their feet, the board goes up, an unofficial takeover to hammer home the consequences of negligence. This plot twist, has sparked a wave of praise from frustrated locals, but not everyone is amused. Vacant plot owners are calling the move an overreach asking how and when the collector gets to decide when a private plot of land is government property. Whether this plot thickens, or not, only time will tell. GRAVEL GHOTALA ON THE RISE A matter about some gravel, turned into a serious issue, driving home that there are still some officials who take their jobs seriously, and are not intimidated by powerful politicians. It all happened recently in a neighbouring district of Hyderabad when forest officials intercepted a vehicle carrying illegally dug out gravel from a patch of reserve forest, and declared that it was an offence to take anything out of the area, and that a compounding fee or around 20,000 must be paid as a penalty. But this was not taken too kindly by a couple of persons carting the gravel who instead sought to claim some healthy immunity from the law and threw about some non-existing weight of theirs claiming that they work for a minister and that the gravel was for the ministers house. Words were exchanged, language turned bitter, and officials got a couple of phone calls but by then the damage was done. Not taking kindly to the injection of unwarranted power, and the consequent developments after the initial seizure, other sections of the law were added to the crime, and the penalty, according to a little birdie, rose to a hefty 90,000 plus. BJP MLA SETS EXAMPLE BY MOVING BASE Giant killer BJP MLA K. Venkataramana Reddy, famous for trouncing former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Kamareddy in the last Assembly elections, is the new toast of the town, and in his districts official MLA camp office. Of the nine MPs and MLAs of the former unified Nizamabad district, and most of whom make quick visits to their constituencies, it is only Venkataramana Reddy, along with family, who has chosen to stay put in his constituency and visits Hyderabad when needed. Being fully local in this manner, he has made himself available to the general public, and has also been busy visiting government hospitals, schools and the like to check on things. This has put the BJP activists in Kamareddy in a happy mood as their legislator is 24x7 accessible to them, and are happy to narrate the story of how their MLA demolished his own house in Kamareddy to cooperate with municipal officials for widening of a road, and then shifted to the MLA camp office with bag and baggage. AP USHERS IN NUCLEAR GOLD RUSH? The Geiger counters are not out yet, but the situation is quickly turning radioactive between the ruling TD and the opposition YSRC over uranium exploration trials in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. The recent protests by people in Kappatralla over further exploratory surveys for uranium in the reserve forest there, resulted in a chain reaction with ruling TD leaders accusing the former YSRC government of granting permissions for drilling bore wells and related investigations. While a crop of current state ministers and top district officials tried to make it clear that no fresh exploration was on the cards, a recent note from the Atomic Minerals Directorate in Hyderabad added a twist, revealing that the government of India had approved exploration activities back in June and October of 2017, authorising 20 bore wells. Additionally, on June 26, 2024, the forest department permitted the drilling of 68 bore wells over 468 hectares in the Kappatralla reserve forest to identify potential uranium sources, something the AMD confirmed this past October, leaving people uncertain about whom to trust, even as the political battle appears to be gaining momentum on the issue. PAWAN KALYAN ASSURES FULL ACCESS TO PUBLIC Open Sesame. Or maybe, can you just knock on the door please? The second option is what APs Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan apparently prefers when it comes to his constituents. The other day, at a gathering in Gollaprolu village in Pithapuram constituency, he said it was absolutely all right to get their problems to his notice. Knock at the door, it shall be opened, he said, adding he was always ready to listen to them and help find solutions, and that they do not have to wait for his visit to Pithapuram. Immediately people began drawing parallels to this with Pawan Kalyans similar assurance from a scene in a movie in which he played the Chief Minister with the character saying that people can phone in and not wait for him to visit their villages.

GUNTUR: As Karthika Masam brings a surge of devotees to Shiva temples, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has launched 150 special buses across Guntur district, in service until November 30. Last year, the RTC earned over Rs 45 lakh from 134 special buses during the season, and this year, it aims to exceed Rs 50 lakh in revenue. To accommodate the pilgrimage rush, 45 buses are running from the Guntur 1 depot, 48 from Guntur 2, 23 from Tenali, 12 from Mangalagiri, and 22 from Ponnuru depot. RTC officials have indicated that additional buses may be deployed depending on demand. Anticipating heavy turnout along the coast, the Bapatla police have implemented safety precautions, as two to three lakh devotees visit Suryalanka, Ramapuram, and Vadarevu beaches annually for the holy dip. The district administration has stationed sanitation teams, portable toilets, medical camps, ensuring clean facilities and necessary amenities.
Seaplane trial run in Vijayawada on November 9
VIJAYAWADA/KURNOOL: The stage is all set for the trial run of the seaplane service between Vijayawada to Srisailam on Saturday. A demonstration was conducted at the Prakasam Barrage on Friday under the supervision of the Infrastructure and Investment (I&I) Department Secretary S Suresh alongside Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) Managing Director Praveen Adhithya and other officials. The trial run marks a crucial step in the States ambitious plan to strengthen connectivity and foster tourism across scenic and historically significant destinations. The government, in partnership with APADCL, aims to establish seaplane services as a viable alternative to conventional air travel, leveraging the States extensive waterways and coastal areas. The inaugural flight, arranged through De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, will carry Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu. Their participation signals a major milestone for the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), a Central government initiative under Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN), which seeks to expand transportation infrastructure to undeserved areas. Among potential seaplane sites, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has identified the Prakasam Barrage as a prime location. Additionally, the State has earmarked eight other scenic destinations for potential service routes, including Araku, Lambasingi, Rushikonda, Kakinada, Konaseema, Srisailam, and Tirupati. These sites, chosen for their cultural significance and natural beauty, are expected to enhance travel experiences and boost the influx of domestic and international tourists. Seaplanes offer a unique travel option, especially for regions that lack conventional airport facilities, explained the Secretary. Unlike traditional airports, water aerodromes require limited infrastructure and construction time, making them efficient and cost-effective solutions for regional connectivity. Each seaplane will accommodate up to 19 passengers, with initial assessments focusing on factors such as route viability, water depth, and proximity to tourist hubs. The government aims to finalise passenger fares following a feasibility study, with full service expected to launch within three months. This venture is structured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to maintain affordability for travellers. APADCL is also exploring additional water aerodrome sites to extend the services reach to remote areas, ensuring accessibility across the State. Adding to the tourism infrastructure, Srisaila Devasthanam officials have embarked on development initiatives to make Srisailam an appealing destination for both devotees and tourists. Temple executive officer (EO) E Chandrasekhar Reddy expressed pride in hosting the seaplane trial during his tenure, noting that the initiative holds historical significance for Srisailam and could pave the way for development. This initiative will open a new dimension for tourism in the State, offering a unique travel experience and connecting picturesque locations, Suresh remarked. We believe this can significantly contribute to regional development by boosting accessibility and attracting more visitors. The anticipated economic impact extends beyond tourism. Seaplane services are expected to create jobs within aviation and related sectors, driving industrial growth and strengthening the States economy. By drawing more passenger traffic and broadening tourisms footprint, the initiative has the potential to spur local development. Through this pioneering effort, AP is set on creating an integrated transport ecosystem that bolsters economic growth, promotes tourism, and underscores the States commitment to modern infrastructure solutions. By offering new travel experiences, the government envisions a more accessible and connected AP, positioning it as a premier tourism destination in India.

Kurnool: The Nandyal I Town police have registered a case against MLC and YSRC leader Issac Basha following a complaint from Salam, who recently challenged his previous arrest and alleged baseless accusations in court. According to circle inspector G. Sudhakar Reddy, Issac Basha, then a contractor, had filed a complaint against Salam in 2013, accusing him of trespassing on a construction site. The police subsequently investigated and filed a charge-sheet against Salam. The case went to trial. However, after years, the court acquitted Salam. Recently, Salam filed a petition in the court against Basha claiming that the case filed against him was unjust. The circle inspector said the court recently directed the I Town police to take up the case and register it against the MLC.
New parameters to test liquor quality soon
VIJAYAWADA: Excise and Prohibition Minister Kollu Ravindra has said the State government will introduce new standards and procedures to ensure the quality of liquor. As many as 13 parameters will be introduced to test the blending, and extra-neutral alcohol and gas chromatography tests will be made available at the regional excise laboratories in Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Chittoor, Kurnool and Kakinada to ensure that all types of liquor is tested as per the guidelines and regulations of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Cabinet nod to key policies, Land Act
VIJAYAWADA: The State Cabinet approved the AP Drone Policy 2024-29, Data Centre Policy 4.0, and AP Semiconductor Fab Policy 4.0 during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday. As part of the Drone Policy, the State government has proposed to set up a training institute for drone pilots and developing Kurnool district as a drone manufacturing hub. The policy envisages an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, revenue of Rs 3,000 crore, and the creation of 15,000 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs. Additionally, the Cabinet decided to repeal the AP Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act, 1982 and bring a new law in its place. Briefing media on the decisions, Minister for Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Kolusu Parthasarathi said the State is moving fast towards transforming into a drone hub. The decision to set up a Drone Development Centre in Kurnool is to achieve this goal. Expressing confidence that the policy, adopted by the Cabinet, will enable the establishment of at least 100 drone manufacturing units in the State, he said the move will result in the setting up of 20 drone pilot training centres and 50 skill development centres across the State. On the Data Centre Policy, he said, the initiative aims at adding an additional 200 megawatts of data and attracting investments for setting up latest data centres with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Council of Ministers also approved the Andhra Pradesh Semiconductor Fab policy which will be in force between 2024 and 2029, he added. Andhra Pradesh Cabinet likely to take several key decisions on November 6 New bill to protect landowners interests The Centre will extend 50% subsidy in a phased manner while the State government, too, will provide an additional 30% subsidy, he added. Pointing out that several semiconductor companies from the United States and Europe have established their units in States like Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra, Parthasarathi expressed confidence AP too will be getting investments. Elaborating on the Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill-2024, he said, We are formulating the 1982 legislation to severely punish those who resort to land grabbing. Since the new government took over, 80% of the complaints received by the Revenue Department were on land related issues. Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad alleged that under YS Jagan Mohan Reddys government, land grabbers were given a free hand. We are set to change all that and safeguard the lands belonging to their rightful owners. Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill-2024 will be a milestone in the annals of State, he remarked. The Minister observed that as the value of the lands in the State increased, land grabbers and encroachers have also increased. Protecting the interests of the rightful landowners is our topmost priority. This was clear from the repealing of the Land Titling Act brought in by Jagan to loot public property. Henceforth, under the new act, land grabbers will be sentenced to 10-14 years of imprisonment and a fine of the value of land grabbed, besides compensating the owner, he said. The new Act was drafted after studying existing laws in Gujarat and Karnataka. Further, the provisions of the new Act will protect government lands. eNAM Crash, Traders Syndicate, Storage Upset Kurnool Onion Farmers
Kurnool: Onion farmers of Kurnool district are facing severe storage issues with Kurnool citys markets overwhelmed with this season's bumper harvest. A staggering 2.52 lakh quintals of produce has reached the market, against last years 52,000 quintals. The harvest comes to the Kurnool market yard not just from the Kurnool district but also from the neighbouring Jogulamba Gadwal district in Telangana. The market yard has been packed to its limits. While sales began in August with 20,00025,000 quintals of produce reaching the market, the quantum skyrocketed during the last week of October. 65,000 quintals of onions arrived in just three days. Trading in onion suffered when the eNAM (electronic National Agriculture Market) system malfunctioned, leading to traders resorting to manual tenders. The delay caused major disruptions, with farmers waiting for hours before bidding started for their produce. As the trading process took longer than usual, the market yard and surrounding streets became congested with vehicles transporting onions, making it difficult for both farmers and the public to move around the area. With the rush building up, farmers expressed concerns over traders forming a syndicate, driving down prices. The open market price for onions is around Rs 5,000Rs 6,000 per quintal. Traders have reportedly offered only Rs 2,000Rs 2,500 per quintal, a price far below the market value. One of the farmers S. Maddileti from Dhone mandal has raised concerns over the low prices being offered and the high costs associated with transporting onions. Another farmer Narasimha from Kodumur criticised lack of stocking facilities at the market yard and technical problems arising during the trading process. With news of such difficulties arising, district in-charge minister N. Ramanaidu assured farmers that steps are being taken to address these issues. He promised to reduce the influence of the traders syndicate and ensure that market operations are transparent. Additionally, the minister announced plans to set up an additional onion market in Kodumur, which will help reduce the pressure on the Kurnool market yard. The new Kodumur market will provide easier access to farmers in nearby areas, reducing their transportation costs, apart from streamlining the trading process.
Tiger collides with car near Allagadda
Kurnool: A tiger collided with a car between Allagadda and Ahobilam on Wednesday while chasing a herd of monkeys. As it crossed the road, the tiger accidentally struck the vehicle before retreating into the forest. A five-member family from Tadipatri in Kadapa district, who had attended a wedding in Allagadda, was on their way to visit the Ahobilam Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. As they were traveling, the tiger hit the vehicle, which was moving at around 20 km/h. The family was startled by the encounter but managed to steer the car to safety nearby, and no one was harmed. The driver of the car confirmed that all five members were unharmed. Upon receiving the information, forest officials from the Ahobilam range arrived at the spot to investigate, checking the car and surrounding areas for any signs of blood or injury to determine if the animal was hurt in the incident. Deputy director of forests, Anurag Meena, stated that soon after the incident, their staff members entered the forest and collected urine samples, but they have not yet captured the wild animal. He said that forest officials are continuing to search for the tiger in the forest to assess if it sustained any injuries. Camera traps are being arranged to help identify and capture the animal. Meena also mentioned that there is no evidence of even minor injuries to the tiger, and they believe the animal was not hurt in the accident.

Erratic rainfall hit crop yield in a few mandals: Agriculture Ministry
TIRUPATI: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has stated that the cumulative average rainfall received in the State during the South West Monsoon from June to September 2024 is 681.6 mm as against the normal of 574.7 mm. However, in certain mandals, the rainfall is less than normal and dry spells have also been recorded. In response to an article published in TNIE on November 4, 2024 with the headline Crop yields drop by 38% in drought-hit Annamayya , the Agriculture Ministry clarified that the Andhra Pradesh government has announced that 27 mandals are categorised as facing severe drought and another 27 as moderate drought. The most affected regions include Annamayya district, where all 19 designated mandals are classified as severely hit, with Kalakada experiencing the harshest conditions. Other districts affected include Kurnool (2 moderate), Anantapur (2 severe, 5 moderate), Sri Sathya Sai (3 severe, 7 moderate), and Chittoor (3 severe, 13 moderate) as per GO No 15 issued on October 29, 2024. The affected districts received good rainfall at the beginning of Kharif 2024, and crop coverage is higher in comparison to last year. As discussed with the State, yields are affected in the drought-hit districts during Kharif 2024. The most affected district Annamayya has 19 mandals listed under the severe drought category, including Kalakada, which has been hit hardest. Other impacted districts include Anantapur with two mandals severely affected, and five moderately affected; Sri Sathya Sai with three severe and seven moderate; Chittoor with three severe and 13 moderate; and Kurnool, which has two mandals categorised as moderately affected. Though the cumulative rainfall in these districts was as either normal or excess, rainfall distribution was uneven with significant deficits in July and scanty rainfall in August and September, it explained. Data shows that the cumulative rainfall in these districts was normal to excess overall. For instance, Anantapur recorded 452.4 mm rainfall, 34% above normal; Sri Sathya Sai 460.8 mm, 37% above normal; Chittoor 485.5 mm, 7% above normal; Annamayya 387.3 mm, 2% increase; and Kurnool 487.3 mm, 13% surplus. This erratic rainfall pattern has impacted key Kharif crops, particularly groundnut, which saw a substantial decrease in sown area in drought-affected regions. In Kalakada, for instance, the sown area for all crops was only 47.62% of the normal, with groundnut coverage at a mere 29.96% due to insufficient rainfall. Despite an increase in overall crop coverage at the beginning of Kharif 2024 compared to last year, yields have been heavily impacted in drought-affected districts. In Chittoor, crop area coverage rose from 5,449 hectares in 2023 to 11,004 hectares this year, while in Anantapur, it increased from 13,921 hectares to 21,546 hectares. However, yield losses are estimated to be as high as 40-50% in areas dependent on rain-fed crops like groundnut, given the prolonged dry spell. The State government is now assessing farmer-wise crop losses to submit reports. The ministry has emphasised that while initial rains boosted early Kharif coverage, the drought declaration underscores the need for targeted interventions to support affected farmers.
YSRC Government Permitted Uranium Survey: Ramanaidu
Kurnool : District In-Charge and Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has promised the people of Devanakonda mandal that the state government will not allow uranium mining in the district as long as there is no public consent. He said the previous government permitted a survey in this respect in 2022. There will be no harassment or unwarranted arrests in this connection. Presiding over the District Development Committee meeting at the Collectorate on Monday, the minister said the welfare of the people would be the governments top priority. The meeting discussed issues related to agriculture, irrigation and drinking water. Highlighting the developmental needs of Kurnool, Ramanaidu noted that the gateway to Rayalaseema remained underdeveloped, with 20 percent of its 8 lakh acres still un-irrigated. For Rayalaseema, he promised an allocation of Rs.2,800 crore for the Handri Neeva project next year, with plans to increase its water flow from 1,800 to 3,850 cusecs to benefit Kurnool, Anantapur, Sathya Sai, Hindupuram and Chittoor districts. The government, he said, is trying to attract industrial investment to the region and more employment opportunities. On housing, Ramanaidu asked officials to compile reports on housing development from 2014 to 2016 and process the pending payments for houses built in 20162019. SVICCAR Tirupati Hosts Event to Enhance Awareness for Palliative Care
Tirupati: The Sri Venkateswara Institute of Cancer Care and Advanced Research (SVICCAR), Tirupati, set up by the Tata Cancer Care Foundation, hosted an educational programme to raise awareness about the essential role of palliative care in oncology. End-of-life care stands at the pinnacle of nobility, exemplifying a selfless commitment to empathy and dignity in life's final stages. In this spirit, the event underscored the importance of compassionate, comprehensive care for patients facing serious health conditions such as cancer. Every year over one million new cancer cases are diagnosed in India, with a large segment seeking medical attention only at advanced stages (III or IV), making them potential candidates for palliative care. With rising cancer cases and late-stage detection, the demand for effective pain and palliative care services is growing. The estimated need for palliative care among cancer patients ranges from 70 to 140 per 100,000 people. Yet, fewer than 4% of Indians have access to this vital healthcare. The Tata Cancer Care Foundation recognises the cancer care challenges that exist in India and has dedicated itself to bringing affordable, high-quality oncological services closer to patients homes. Guided by values of integrity, compassion, and a philosophy of care, it has established a network of healthcare facilities across the length and breadth of the country. Apart from patient-centric approaches and leveraging innovative technology, its care model gives due importance to raising awareness about cancer symptoms and timely screening, especially at the grassroots, such that detection takes place at an early stage, reducing the need for palliative care. Commenting on the need for accessible and quality palliative care, Dr. Rajendra A. Badwe, Chief Executive, Tata Cancer Care Foundation & Former Director and Head of Surgical Oncology, Tata Memorial Centre, said, With over 70% of the patients diagnosed with cancer at advanced stages of the disease, the demand for palliative care is rising in India. We must devise palliative care strategies while considering the region and local community and incorporate them seamlessly into the current treatment model. This can have vital implications for patients quality of life in fact, it can reduce patient anxiety by 40% when introduced in a timely manner. By advancing access to palliative care across both urban and rural healthcare centres and clinics, more people can benefit from improved quality of life outcomes. An event aiming to inform and empower communities was recently organised by SVICCAR in Tirupati. The awareness program offered a highly engaged audience of primary care providers, caregivers, and members of the public an opportunity to understand how palliative care can support patients with cancer and other illnesses, both in managing disease-related symptoms and enhancing their quality of life. While Andhra Pradesh has made strides in expanding palliative care services in certain key centres like Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Kurnool, and Puttaparthi, further development of such care facilities, especially in rural areas, is vital to meet the growing demand for these services. As the only hospital in Rayalaseema and neighbouring regions of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka offering 24/7 palliative support, SVICCAR is committed to supporting members of the community and reaching more affected patients with diligent efforts by its Pain and Palliative Care Department, led by Dr. Ravikumar and his team. During the event, Dr. Mallika Tiruvadanan, Specialist in Palliative Medicine and managing Trustee of Lakshmi Pain and Palliative Care Trust, Chennai, highlighted the need to incorporate palliative care which comprehensively addresses the physical and emotional distress caused by cancer and chronic diseases as a part of MBBS degree, which can benefit millions of underserved people across the country. Dr Narendra Hulikal, Head, of Surgical Oncology, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati, elaborated on the special treatment requirements associated with advanced cancer symptoms, which may not just be managed with medication but also require surgical intervention. This can be vital in the case of symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, bleeding, fluid accumulation in the chest and abdomen, intestinal obstruction, and more. Other experts, including Dr Surendran V, Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai, stressed the goal of palliative care to add life to days rather than days to life. Dr. Prasanth, Medical Director, SVICCAR, also remarked that palliative care is a collaborative effort requiring a patient-centered approach involving doctors, nurses, psychologists, NGOs, and caregivers. This sentiment was echoed by speakers from various specialties, including psycho-oncologists, palliative care specialists, and moreduring awareness meetings held in the city. A similar awareness event was also held in Ranchi, reaffirming the commitment to spread awareness and strengthen end-of-life care services across the country and educate practitioners and communities alike.

APOSS Set up in 1991s Faces National Recognition Hurdle
Kurnool : Thirty-five years after its establishment, the Andhra Pradesh Open School (APOSS) continues to struggle for national recognition. Its certificates remain unaccepted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for official documentation, like passports. Currently, only SSC, Intermediate and regular degree certificates are acknowledged for purposes such as proof of date of birth, by sidelining APOSS credentials. This lack of recognition has created obstacles at passport offices and Seva Kendras. These entities decline APOSS certificates, citing the absence of a government nod for these qualifications. Initially, APOSS was introduced to curb school dropouts and boost literacy in Andhra Pradesh. Founded in 1991, APOSS recently expanded to offer Intermediate courses. The SSC course, available to anyone aged 14 or older, does not require prior qualifications, provided the candidate self-certifies his or her ability to undertake related studies. Upon completion of SSC, students become eligible for Intermediate studies through APOSS or regular schooling. Due to this lack of national-level recognition, APOSS students face difficulties particularly with higher education admissions. Law aspirants encountered significant hurdles last year when APOSS certificates were not initially accepted by the Bar Council of India. This issue was resolved only through court intervention, with undertakings eventually allowing some students to pursue legal studies. Although GO 723 was issued by the state government in 2008 and guidelines from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) issued in Sep 2012 affirmed the validity of APOSS certificates for education and employment, the external affairs ministry is yet to recognize them for passport documentation. In a recent case, a Kurnool candidate seeking a passport was advised to provide other certifications beyond Intermediate or graduation degrees. The situation underscores the need for stronger advocacy from the state government to secure comprehensive national recognition for all APOSS courses, he opined.

ERC asks power utilities to manage power demand
Hyderabad :In view of discoms landing in neck-deep losses, the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission has asked power utilities to expedite the implementation of the demand side management to lower their operating costs. As per the white paper tabled by the state government on the financial health of the power sector, the electricity distribution companies (Discoms) had a debt of `81,516 crore and the accumulated losses of `62,461 crore as on October 31, 2023. To shift consumers to off-peak hours, the commission has already announced an increase in incentive from `1 per unit to `1.50 per unit to reduce the power demand in peak hours. Like the time-of-day incentive, the commission directed the discoms to expedite the initiative towards the implementation of the demand side management to encourage customers to reduce or shift their electricity use. With this strategy, the electricity utilities can reduce their peak power purchases and lower their operating costs. It can also help consumers save money on their electricity bills, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to a more sustainable future. Following the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, southern discom officials have recently conducted a door-to-door survey in Kongareddypalli village in Nagarkurnool district to power the entire village with solar energy, which is in tune with the governments goal to make all villages in the state solar-powered. Through the demand side management, the utilities can integrate the distributed energy resources by incorporating renewable energy sources, like rooftop solar and wind, alongside battery storage. It can help meet local demand and reduce reliance on centralised power generation. The utilities can also implement virtual power plants (VPPs), aggregating distributed assets to function as a collective source of demand response or backup power. Utilities can offer monetary incentives to customers who purchase energy-efficient equipment, such as heat pumps or replacing ageing industrial equipment, said the official. Commercial and industrial customers often consume a large share of energy. Offering these customers financial incentives to curtail their usage during peak hours can have a substantial impact on overall demand. Curtailment programmes for specific industries often prove effective for peak load management and can reduce operating costs related to peaking plants.

Chandrababu Naidu has instructed that Veligonda project be completed in two phases, with 1.19 lakh acres of land being irrigated by the next season after head works, tunnels, feeder channel and regulator tasks are completed under Phase 1. Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu shared this information with media on Tuesday when he visited the Poola Subbaiah Veligonda project site at Kothur in Dornala mandal of Prakasam district. Ramanaidu pulled up the YSRC government for hastily dedicating the project, even though construction of the tunnel and other key elements had remained incomplete. The central government has recently approved Rs 2,786 crore to develop infrastructure in the Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub. Originally launched by then-Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in August 2015, this project is anticipated to attract investments of around Rs 12,000 crore and create approximately 45,000 jobs, a much-needed opportunity for the region's economy. With these investments, Orvakal is expected to become a key industrial center, strengthening the economic landscape of the undivided Kurnool district. State industries minister T.G. Bharat welcomed this central support and announced additional plans for developing the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridors, which have also secured funding from the central government. These corridors are expected to improve connectivity and draw new investments to the Rayalaseema region, which has low industrial growth. He mentioned that industrial and smart cities are planned for Orvakal, and the regions designation as a red zone allows for a wide range of industries to be established. Minister Bharat added that foreign investors, especially from the UAE, have expressed interest, with talks for collaboration already underway. Local industry has already started to grow with the launch of operations at the Jayaraj Ispat steel factory. The state government is proactively addressing infrastructure needs, including water, electricity and transportation networks. Air connectivity improvement is also in the works, with new flight services planned between Kurnool and Vijayawada, which will further support the industrial sectors growth at Orvakal.
TTD Accused of Denying Darshan to Swamijis
Kurnool : Srinivasananda Saraswati Swamy, head of Anandashramam, has accused officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) of failing to provide darshan to 300 Swamijis who attended the Jateeya Sadhu Sammelanam at Tirupati's Urban Haat. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Swamy expressed his disappointment, stating that under the YSRCP regime, Swamijis received more respect than VIPs. He criticized Additional Executive Officer Venkaiah Chowdary, claiming that misunderstandings are leading people astray from the path of Dharma. He suggested that an IAS officer from another state should be appointed as the AEO of TTD, noting that those who traveled long distances for darshan were left disheartened by the authorities. In response, TTD issued a statement refuting Swamy's claims. They clarified that he had requested break darshan for 50 individuals, special entrance darshan for 550 people, and accommodation in Tirumala on Sunday. Due to the high volume of devotees on Sundays, TTD explained that accommodating such a large number was not feasible and recommended reducing the requested figures. They emphasized their efforts to meet Swamy's demands despite the challenges.

Dr Narasamma said the investigation team found no evidence of coercion regarding dress code. Junior students confirmed that while they were encouraged to maintain a neat appearance and utilise study applications, these were purely voluntary practices The investigation team found a positive relationship between senior and junior students. College authorities said no ragging complaints were officially registered by the students or their parents. Dr Narasamma said this could indicate that either the reports of ragging were fake news or there was reluctance to voice concerns. The institution has implemented comprehensive measures to address any ragging incidents, she added.

Kurnool: Tensions are rising between the Telugu Desam (TD) and Jana Sena, as TD leaders have voiced their discontent over Jana Sena's decision to welcome former minister and YSRC leader Balineni into their ranks. TDP members accused Balineni of harassment and filing baseless cases during his tenure. During a membership drive led by city legislator Damacharla Janardhan Rao in Ongole on Sunday, TDP leaders expressed frustration over Balineni's induction, questioning the commitment to the alliance government. TD leader Yeddu Sasikanth Bhushan made veiled remarks directed at Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, stating, Our blood boils when we see the Jana Sena scarf draped over Balineni. Is there no interest in consulting us despite being in an alliance? If those whove lost are included, well take our own path too. In response, Prakasam District Jana Sena president Riaz warned TD leaders to refrain from public criticism of their party chief, asserting that such comments would not be tolerated.
