Manjhi clears the air in video, says managed to swing votes via DM
PATNA: A video claiming to show Union minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi speaking about influencing an election result went viral on Friday, sparking an uproar among opposition parties. After the furore, Manjhi claimed the video had been tampered with and accused his political opponents of trying to malign him. In the video, Manjhi is heard addressing a public gathering in Magahi, a local dialect, and is allegedly heard saying that he helped secure a candidates victory in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections by speaking to the then district magistrate. He says the candidate was trailing by 2,600 votes but went on to win after his intervention. This time, the candidate lost by 1,600 votes, but he wasnt informed, Manjhi adds in the clip. The official margin of victory does not match Manjhis claim. The remarks were reportedly made during a programme in Mohanpur block of the Barachatti Assembly constituency. In the video, Manjhi also refers to the district magistrate involved, who is now reportedly posted in Tripura. Manjhi denied having said such things. Some people, who tampered with one of my videos to make it go viral, think they can defame the son of a Musahar, he said. I want to tell such people that no one can either insult the son of a Musahar or fool him now. Those who spit at the sky are forgetting that the spit will fall back on their own face. Now Manjhi has become a brandno longer afraid of anyone. The RJD shared the video on social media and accused Manjhi of openly admitting to electoral manipulation. This is Jitan Ram Manjhi, a cabinet minister in the Government of India, former chief minister of Bihar, and patron of the HAM party. He is openly revealing the royal formula for winning elections through manipulation of results, machinery, and rigging, the party said. Her family members and classmates have assured me that she would join duty, Rahman said. A day earlier, Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey said that he had not known that the concerned female doctor might not join her duty. I have no such information, was the terse reply of Pandey when journalists asked about reports that the AYUSH doctor Nusrat Parveen, who hails from Kolkata, has declined the government job following the hijab incident. No action against men who got Rs 10K under women yojna
PATNA: The Bihar government on Thursday clarified that it would not take coercive action against the 470 differently abled men who received Rs 10,000 each under Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojna ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. Since the launch of the scheme, around 15.1 million women have received Rs 10,000 each. The beneficiaries are required to be members of the Bihar governments Jeevika Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Bihar Jeevika chief executive officer (CEO) Himanshu Pandey said that the government would not compel recipients to return the money. He said that errors can occur when implementing such a large scheme and noted that the discrepancy was detected internally. The first option offered to the men is to adjust the amount in favour of eligible women from their families, he added. He, however, blamed officials for a gross error, which led to the transfer of Rs 10,000 each into the bank accounts of women associated with Jeevika. Apart from the 1.1 million womens self-help groups, we also have 1,000 such groups of divyang. We detected that 470 differently abled men have also received Rs 10,000 each under the Mahila Rojgar Yojana, Pandey said. He further said that out of the 70 cases reported from Darbhanga, notices were issued to 12 beneficiaries, asking them to either return the money or have it adjusted against the accounts of newly eligible women applicants from their families. The problem compounded when male recipients of the money under the scheme refused to return the money. Notices have been issued to 14 recipients of which seven have returned the money.

When asked about the woman rejecting the appointment, Singh said, Whether she refuses the job or goes to hell, that's her choice (Woh refuse kare ya jahannum mein jaye). Singh's remarks came shortly after Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that he was not aware of the doctor rejecting the appointment due to the incident. I have no such information, Pandey said while also attempting to justify the CM by insisting, Women have always been respected by our CM, who has made huge efforts for the empowerment of Matri Shakti. Nusrat Parveen, a doctor hailing from Kolkata, was among ten Ayush doctors who had turned up at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Monday to receive their letters of appointment. When Parveen's turn came, the 75-year-old CM pointed towards her veil and exclaimed 'what is this' before pulling it down and exposing her face. The incident has drawn criticism globally, with many accusing Nitish Kumar of disrespecting Muslim traditions, allegedly in line with the RSS agenda. Meanwhile, several opposition leaders slammed the remarks made by Giriraj Singh as cheap and filthy. Congress MP from Bihar's Katihar, Tariq Anwar called the minister a person with cheap mentality. These are third-rate people, they have a cheap mindset. They dont understand that our country is secular. Everyone is free to practice their religion. What Nitish Kumar has done is shameful and saddening, Anwar said. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti also lashed out at Singh. Only phenyl will work to clean this man's filthy mouth. You dare not touch the hijabs & naqabs of our Muslim mothers and sisters. Otherwise we Muslim women will set you right by teaching you a lesson you and your ilk will remember for all times to come, she said on X. NCP (SP) MP Fauzia Khan also hit out Kumar and Singh. It is very saddening that responsible people do such acts, this will send a wrong message in the world. It is a personal decision of a woman as to how much she covers up and removing the veil is akin to disrobing a woman. He (Kumar) should have given a pubic apology but instead of that they are saying that what happened was right, she said. Asked about Singh's remarks, Congress MP Imran Masood said, He needs treatment for mental sickness. 3rd Test: Conway, Latham Historic Stand Powers NZ To 334-1 Vs WI On Day 1
ICC World Test Championship: Devon Conway and Tom Latham delivered an opening-day record-breaking performance here at the Bay Oval on Thursday, carving up a struggling West Indies bowling attack as New Zealand closed Day 1 of the third Test on a formidable 334/1. Conway remained unbeaten on 178 at stumps, while captain Latham fell late in the day for 137, the pair having stitched together a monumental 323-run opening stand. In the process, the duo set a new record for the highest opening partnership in Tests ever since the inception of the ICC World Test Championship, surpassing the previous record held by India's Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. Rohit and Agarwal had previously held the record since they put on 317 for the opening wicket against South Africa in Visakhapatnam back in 2019. Moreover, it was the second-largest opening partnership in New Zealands Test history, surpassed only by Glenn Turner and Terry Jarvis 387 against the West Indies in Georgetown in 1972, and marked just the eighth 300-plus partnership by New Zealand in the longest format. After opting to bat first, the host got off to a flying start as Conway and Latham took New Zealand to 83/0 in the first session and reached up to their fifties after the lunch. Then there was a brief rain break that forced the players indoors. Play resumed after 20 minutes, and the New Zealand pair casually picked up from where they left off as the Conway and Latham, who'd made 83 in the first session, added 133 runs in the second session. Conway showed remarkable concentration as the left-hander registered his sixth Test hundred, reaching the milestone off 147 balls, and struck 25 boundaries. It was his first home century since January 2022, following a 153 against Zimbabwe earlier this year. New Zealand headed for Tea at 216 for no loss. On the other side of Tea, Latham went on to get to his century, his 15th in Tests, through a boundary off Roach, comprising 15 fours and a six from 264 balls. West Indies best chance came late in the day when Latham, on 104, was dropped by wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach off Anderson Phillips bowling with New Zealand at 253 for no loss. Soon, the pair brought up the 300 on the board.
