RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav directs RJD leaders to restore voter names, gear up for Bihar polls

PATNA: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Wednesday asked senior party leaders to ensure that the names of voters deleted from the electoral rolls were restored, while also intensifying preparations for the upcoming assembly election in Bihar. The meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, was attended by RJD MPs, MLAs, MLCs, district party presidents and candidates who contested the last assembly polls. Tejashwi urged party leaders to make sure that the names of voters struck off from the rolls were re-added and to launch a campaign to weed out fake voters. He also called on them to engage in election preparations with full force and to highlight the promises made by the party during the awareness campaign. Alongside this, the RJD plans to launch a large-scale public outreach programme in the coming days, signalling that the party has shifted into full election mode with a focus on sharpening its strategy at every level. The party is also preparing for the INDIA blocs coordination committee meeting scheduled to be held on September 15 in Patna. With Congress leader Rahul Gandhis Voter Adhikar Yatra concluding on Monday, the RJD and other INDIA bloc allies now have to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement. At the previous meeting, leaders of various INDIA bloc allies had submitted their desired seat lists. Seat-sharing talks have already begun, but a senior RJD leader remarked that allies should avoid making unrealistic demands so that a consensus can be reached in an amicable atmosphere.

INS Sindhuvijay to undergo mid-life refit at Hindustan Shipyard

NEW DELHI: With plans to keep the underwater combat strength up to date, submarine INS Sindhuvijay will be docked for its mid-life refit by the end of this year. Sources confirmed that the Indian Navy is set to send one of its Sindhughosh-class submarines, INS Sindhuvijay, for a mid-life refit at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam in the coming months. The sources said that the acceptance of necessity (AoN) has already been granted from the Ministry of Defence. Work is currently underway to finalise the refit contract, which is expected to be concluded in the coming weeks. If everything goes as per the plan, the submarine will be docked at HSL for the refitting at the end of this year. This will be an important step in maintaining the underwater combat force, as upon completion of the refit, the Sindhuvijay boat will be battle-ready and enhance the Indian Navys operational readiness. At present, there are 16 submarines of various classes operating with the force. These include the five Kalvari (Scorpene) class, four Shishumar (HDW SSK) class and seven Sindhughosh-class submarines. INS Sindhuvijay was commissioned on 17 December 1990 at Riga in the erstwhile Soviet Union, as one of the eight of the Sindhughosh-class diesel-electric submarines. The Sindhughosh-class series is the Indian variant of the Russian Kilo-class diesel-electric attack submarine. The name Sindhuvijay is a Sanskrit word meaning Conqueror of the Sea. The vessel last underwent an extensive overhaul at Russias Zvezdochka Shipyard in 2005. The mid-life refit includes repairing hull damage, overhauling machinery, upgrading sensors and weapons systems, and extending the submarines service life to maintain combat readiness and counter evolving threats. With the refitting, the boats become operational and technologically relevant. The DPSU HSL is adept at overhauling Indian submarines. The third of the Sindhughosh-class series submarines INS Sindhukirti was returned to the Indian Navy in August this year after a comprehensive overhauling and refitting of the boat. INS Sindhuvijay is 72-74 metres long and has a displacement of 2,325 tonnes when surfaced and 3,076 tonnes when submerged. The submarine has a speed of 1011 knots (1.85 km) while operating on the surface and 1719 knots submerged. INS Sindhuvijay has a range of 6,000 miles at 7 knots (surfaced/snorkelling) and 400 miles at 3 knots (submerged). The boat can reach a maximum diving depth of 300 metres. A submarine is a military vessel that can travel both on the surface and in a submerged state and is deployed to execute offensive or defensive operations. India has to maintain credible underwater combat readiness as, on one side, Pakistan, with the help of China, is on its way to induct modern Yuan (Hangor) Class submarines, which will be fitted with Air Independent Propulsion. Simultaneously, the Chinese PLA Navy operates a large number of submarines over 50 conventional submarines and over 10 nuclear submarines.

NDA calls for five-hour Bihar bandh on Sept 4 to protest abuses hurled at PM, his late mother

Patna: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) party has given a call for a five-hour bandh in Bihar on September 4 to protest against the abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben, during the Voter Adhikar Yatra launched by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Darbhanga. Announcing the bandh call, Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal said that the bandh call will be effective from 7 am to 12 noon on September 4 (Thursday). However, railways and emergency services have been exempted from the ambit of the bandh, he told the media. Jaiswal, who was watching PM Modi on TV in the party office, literally broke down. Slamming the Congress-RJD, BJP state president asked what bigger sin could be than abusing the PM's mother, who is no more and has nothing to do with politics. Rahul Gandhi has brought shame to the land of Bihar by allowing a man to hurl abuses on PM and his late mother from the stage meant for Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga last week, Jaiswal said, adding that the party would observe bandh as a mark of protest. Lauding the efforts of PM Modi for Bihars development, Jaiswal said that on Tuesday he (PM) provided financial assistance to mothers and daughters of the state. Around 20 mothers and sisters were listening to PM Modi when he disbursed financial aid to the state, he said. He added that a decision to observe bandh on September 4 was taken after a meeting with leaders of women cells of all five constituents of NDA. The women cells of NDA allies were deeply hurt by the behaviour of Congress-RJD leaders. JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha said that the way PM Modi and his late mother was abused from a public platform was against democratic norms. One may differ on political ideologies, but it does mean that family should be dragged into controversy, he said. Kushwaha, who was present at the press conference, expressed surprise over the silence of Congress-RJD senior leaders over the issue. So far no reactions have come the top leaders of Congress-RJD neither they have apologised for the incident, he asserted. Raju Tiwari, state president of LJP(RV), said that humiliating women had been the tradition of Congress-RJD, and the Darbhanga incident was just a reflection of it. Madan Choudhary of RLM was also present at the press conference. JD(U) women's cell president Bharti Mehta said what is more shocking that abuses were hurled on PMs late mother from the land of Mithilanchal, which has always given preferences to women in every sphere of life. This is more humiliating, and it will not be tolerated, she remarked. On the other hand, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar said that BJP was trying to divert the peoples attention by playing the emotional card before the assembly election. They did similar thing in Karnataka. Now they are trying to repeat in Bihar, he said at a press conference on Tuesday.

BJP's Amit Malviya alleges Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera has two EPIC numbers

NEW DELHI: Amid the hue and cry by the Opposition led by the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday alleged that Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera holds two EPIC numbersone registered in Delhis Jangpura and another in a different constituency. Amit Malviya, who is in charge of the BJP's National Information and Technology Department and co-in-charge of West Bengal, alleged in a post on X that Khera possesses two EPIC numbers. Malviya shared these numbers, taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi screamed 'Vote Chori' from the rooftops. But just like he forgot to mention that his mother, Sonia Gandhi, enlisted herself in Indias voter list even before becoming an Indian citizen, it has now emerged that Pawan Khera, Congress spokespersonwho never misses a chance to flaunt his proximity to the Gandhiholds two active EPIC numbers (in Jangpura and New Delhi Assembly Constituencies, falling under East Delhi and New Delhi Lok Sabha seats respectively). He further said that it is now up to the Election Commission to look into the matter. It is now for the Election Commission to investigate how Pawan Khera holds two active EPIC numbers, and whether he voted multiple timesa clear violation of electoral laws. As if the criminality of holding multiple votes isnt enough, Pawan Khera is holding malicious press conferences in Bihar to mislead voters, create dissonance, and undermine Indias robust electoral process. Rahul Gandhi screamed Vote Chori from the rooftops. But just like he forgot to mention that his mother, Sonia Gandhi, enlisted herself in Indias voter list even before becoming an Indian citizen, it has now emerged that Pawan Khera, Congress spokespersonwho never misses a pic.twitter.com/IkGFlUhuWk Amit Malviya (@amitmalviya) September 2, 2025 Malviyas post followed a day after the Congress and RJD alliance held a rally in Patna, criticising the Modi government over the Bihar SIR issue and pushing the political slogan of Vote-Chori ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. He also aimed Rahul Gandhi for failing to submit a formal complaint regarding allegations made in Bengaluru, saying, For the record: Rahul Gandhi still hasnt submitted a formal complaint under oath to demand an investigation into the fake allegations he made regarding Mahadevapura Assembly in Bengaluru. Not to mention, the Supreme Court has already dismissed the case alleging wrongdoing in Maharashtra. Continuing his attack, Malviya called the Congress the quintessential vote chor in the same post. The fact is simple: Congress is the quintessential vote chor. That is why they want to tarnish everyone with the same brush. For far too long, they mutilated our electoral system, stole mandates by legitimising illegal infiltrators and non-Indians, and are now worried that the Special Intensive Revision initiated by the Election Commission will expose them further, he further said. He also made a sharp allegation against Rahul Gandhi saying, It is time India realises that Rahul Gandhi is dangerous for our democracy. Following Malviya's remarks, Pradeep Bhandari, during a media briefing at the BJP headquarters, also targeted Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of being the real vote-chor. Rahul Gandhi cannot win elections on merit, and that is why he misleads people. He seeks to create a democratic deficit across the nation. His close person Pawan Khera, holds two EPIC numbers and this could not have happened without Rahuls knowledge, which makes him the real 'Vote Chor', Bhandari alleged.

Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav define distinct roles during Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar

PATNA: A clear division of roles between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was evident throughout the Voter Adhikar Yatra that concluded on Monday after covering nearly 1,300 km distance, 110 assembly constituencies spread over 25 districts of Bihar. While Rahul mainly targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP through his vote chori allegations, Tejashwi attacked Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and his government, accusing it of copying his programmes and policies. Tejashwi also indirectly sought to project himself as the chief ministerial candidate of the INDIA bloc. Do you want a duplicate CM or original CM?, he asked the people during the Yatra at Ara, the district headquarters of Bhojpur, even as the Congress leader evaded to reply to a media query on the issue of CM face of the opposition alliance for the upcoming assembly polls. Tejashwi also accused Nitish Kumar of copying policies that he had announced for the elections. Moreover, while Rahuls speeches mainly centred around the alleged vote theft, SIR (special intensive revision of electoral rolls) and its implications in the days to come, Tejashwi raised other issues like migration, unemployment, lack of health facilities, substandard education and issues related to farmers. They have defined their roles. Rahul is a leader of national repute and PM face of the Opposition, Tejashwi has his role in Bihar, said Gangeshwar Sahni, a resident of Gaighat in Muzaffarpur, who came to Patna to participate in the concluding event of the Voter Adhikar Yatra. The 16-day Yatra has indicated that the Opposition alliance will centre around its campaign over alleged vote theft by the BJP in collusion with the Election Commission of India. Vote chori slogan has become more popular among people who have been left out from the draft electoral rolls published on August 1, said Amit Kumar Yadav, a resident of Madhepura in north Bihar. Amit, 46, who runs a mobile repairing shop in Madhepura, came to Patna to participate in the concluding event of Voter Adhikar Yatra. Be it youth, women, farmers or elderly people, all have supported the Yatra, which is a clear reflection of peoples anger against the double-engine government, he said, adding that the BJP and its allies will bite its dust in the coming Bihar assembly election. Sixty-five-year-old Rajendra Das of Bhojpur, a carpenter by profession, said, For the first time, the united face of the Opposition has become evident on ground level. This will certainly benefit the Opposition alliance in the coming election. All top leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Tejashwi Yadav, Dipankar Bhattacharya of CPI-ML and Mukesh Sahani of VIP travelled along with Rahul in the same vehicle. Rahuls Voter Adhikar Yatra has also given his party a chance to come out of the shadow of RJD to some extent as his initiative has definitely energised the grand old partys rank and file. This became evident when hundreds of enthusiastic Congress workers with party flags in their hands and chanting slogan like Chot Chor, Gaddi Chor participated in the concluding event of the Yatra on Monday. Rahuls vitriolic attack against the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners has also created a buzz in the political circles, as now he has added a new flavour to the forthcoming election through his Voter Adhikar Yatra, remarked a senior Congress leader. This has increased the bargaining power of Congress, and it would demand more number of seats in the coming Bihar assembly elections, he pointed out. The kind of response Rahul got throughout the Yatra has reminded people of AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavarus statement that Congress will be on the front seat and will no longer play second fiddle to the RJD.

Nagaland: Developing written grammar for 18 recognised languages

GUWAHATI: The Nagaland University, a central university, is collaborating with the Nagaland government to develop written grammar for the 18 recognised languages of the state. While Naga languages have been taught in schools for decades, none have had dedicated written grammars for the teaching-learning process. The project between Nagaland University and Nagalands Directorate of School Education seeks to provide structured pedagogical grammars for inclusion in school textbooks from Class 5 to Class 12, ensuring alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The initiative will address the gap by systematically documenting grammarincluding parts of speech, tense and aspect, phrase and clause structures, and tonewhile enriching vocabulary and clarifying orthography where needed. This long-term effort not only strengthens NEP 2020s vision of multilingual education but also addresses the risks of language marginalisation by ensuring each Naga language is valued as much as dominant languages, the university said. The grammar developed under this initiative will be incorporated into school textbooks alongside prose, poetry, and translation, under the supervision of the State Council of Educational Research and Training and the Nagaland Board of School Education. Teacher training programmes are planned to support the smooth integration of grammar teaching in classrooms, beginning with refresher courses hosted by the Nagaland University. The project is led by Dr Mimi Kevichsa Ezung, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University. Tenyidie is the standardised form of the Angami language spoken by the Angami community of the state as well as the community speech of nine other tribes, collectively falling under the Tenyimia Group. This endeavour is not merely an academic exercise but a cultural mission one that seeks to preserve, strengthen, and promote the linguistic heritage of our people, said Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of the Nagaland University. It would not have been possible without the dedication of our faculty members, scholars, language experts and community elders who have worked together in a spirit of collaboration. It is also a step towards fulfilling the vision of the NEP 2020, he further stated. Ezung said, At a time when Naga languages are undergoing standardisation, developing pedagogical grammars is crucial. It ensures consistency and regularity in writing and in speech while instilling pride in ones mother tongue. This initiative is not just about textbooks, but it is also about preserving identity, culture, and indigenous knowledge.

BJP hits back at Rahul Gandhi, says his vote chori hydrogen bomb' is a damp squib

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Monday mocked Rahul Gandhi's claim that he will soon come out with a hydrogen bomb as part of his vote chori charge , saying that his atom bomb had turned out to be a damp squib, and accused him of demeaning his position of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha with irresponsible comments. Taking on Gandhi, whose Vote Adhikar Yatra concluded in Patna, for his barbs at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said the Congress leader and his party have a history of abusing Modi. But people, he added, have repeatedly rejected Gandhi and reposed faith in the prime minister. By alleging fraud and deceit behind the BJP's victories under Modi's leadership, the Congress leader has been insulting voters, he said. This is arrogance and we will tell voters to punish him for his arrogance, he said. The former Union minister took repeated jabs at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as well for playing second fiddle to Gandhi in Bihar despite the Congress lacking a political base in the state. Yadav has claims over the chief minister's chair but has ceded the front seat to Gandhi, he added. The Yatra, he asserted, will have no impact on the Bihar assembly polls, expected to be held in October-November. Defending the ongoing Special Intensive Review of electoral rolls in the state, Prasad claimed that the opposition's campaign against it is solely driven by two reasons. Opposition leaders want ight and might to capture booths and that infiltrators should be allowed to vote, he said, recalling the state's history of poll violence and incidents of booth-capturing. Gandhi's campaign, he asserted, is born out of his frustration over the Congress' repeated poll defeats, and if he carries on with a similar conduct, then his party will suffer an even worse fate. The BJP leader noted that the ruling party suffered setbacks in states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections due to the opposition's false campaign that the Modi government would change the Constitution if it were re-elected. However, people soon realised the truth and voted the BJP to record wins in Haryana and Maharashtra, he added, asserting that the ruling alliance will notch up a similar victory in Bihar. The SIR removed from electoral rolls 22 lakh dead voters and eight lakh duplicate voters, he said, wondering if their names should have been allowed on the voters' list. The BJP's sharp attack on Gandhi and his allies came after he said his party will soon come out with a hydrogen bomb of revelations about vote chori and that Modi will not be able to show his face to the country afterwards. We will not let them (BJP) murder the Constitution and that is why we took out a yatra. We got a tremendous response. People came out in large numbers and raised the slogan 'vote chor gaddi chhor', the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said. Gandhi had called his allegations about the electoral roll irregularities in the Mahadevapura assembly segment in Karnataka's Bangalore central Lok Sabha seat an atom bomb. Hitting back, Prasad said Gandhi's so-called atom bomb was not even like the Diwali firecracker that does not go off. One really has to try hard to understand what he means in his speeches in and outside Parliament... The world has not really seen the impact of a hydrogen bomb. Now Rahul Gandhi is talking about it, he said sarcastically. He accused Gandhi of repeatedly demeaning his position as the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha with his irresponsible comments. Prasad said the Congress leader did not even once condemn the use of a Hindi expletive against the prime minister from the dais during his Yatra. The expletive targeted Modi's mother but Gandhi did not say a word, and it shows his arrogance and hate against him, he added. With Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge saying that the BJP will soon discard Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar like trash, Prasad asserted that the BJP's alliance with Kumar was formed to rid the state of corruption and provide good governance which it has delivered. Prasad also highlighted what he described as internal rumblings within the RJD's ruling family, noting that Yadav's sister Misa Bharti, who represents Patliputra in Lok Sabha, was not part of the concluding event of the Yatra even though her constituency overlaps Patna city. He said both Gandhi and Yadav are facing trial in corruption cases but were making big claims about morality. Yadav's father and RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav was convicted on corruption charges, he said. With Gandhi spearheading an aggressive campaign against Modi, the BJP leader said he had made a similar high-decibel pitch against the prime minister in the past over a host of issues, including the Rafale aircraft purchase and the alleged use of spyware Pegasus, but found little traction. The Congress leader has spared no constitutional institutions, be it CAG or the Election Commission, from his attack as he believes that the prime minister's chair is his divine right, Prasad charged. Gandhi may believe that the prime minister's chair is his divine right, but people have and will continue to bless Modi with their votes, he said.

PATNA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said his party will soon come out with a hydrogen bomb of revelations about vote chori and after that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be able to show his face to the country. Speaking at the concluding event of his 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' here, Gandhi said Bihar is a revolutionary state and it had given a message to the country. I want to tell the youth of Bihar, vote chori means 'chori of rights, chori of democracy, chori of employment'. They will take away your ration card and other rights, he alleged. His remarks came after the INDIA bloc allies held a march marking the culmination of the 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' led by Gandhi and other Mahagathbandhan leaders that covered 1,300-km and passed through 110 assembly constituencies covering 25 of the 38 districts ahead of the upcoming state elections. Speaking on the occasion, Mallikarjun Kharge cautioned people of Bihar from the alleged ill intentions of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, otherwise they would be doomed. He said that Modi had a time to visit various countries but no time for visiting Manipur where people were facing trouble. He would meet sometimes US President Donald Trump, sometimes would enjoy on a swing with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and would hug even unwilling leaders of foreign countries. Congress president also claimed that BJP and RSS would dump Bihar chief minister and JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar after the Bihar polls. A new government of the Opposition will come to power after the elections, he said, referring to the mismanagement during the march due to insufficient deployment of police forces. Do your duty with a professional approach. This government will not last for six months, he added. RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said that Nitish government was copying his programmes and policies, calling it a copycat government. Do you want a duplicate CM or original CM, he asked, once again declaring himself as the CM face of the INDIA bloc. INDIA bloc leaders, including Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, former chief minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot, Rashtrawadi Congress leader Supriya Sule, CPI general secretary D Raja and others participated in the march from Gandhi Maidan to Dakbungalow roundabout.
