Nitish along with Lalan and Samrat meet Modi in Delhi

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the second day of his two-day visit to New Delhi. Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary and Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh were also present. This was Nitishs first meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi after the Bihar assembly elections. NDA leaders, however, dismissed the Congress charge, calling it a courtesy meeting. Bihar Congress on Monday took a swipe at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, alleging that the talks were aimed at manipulating upcoming elections. The Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram has also alleged, Now top leaders of the ruling alliance are holding meetings to chalk out strategies to rig the coming elections, including Rajya Sabha and state legislative council. Patna Diary | Nitin Nabin to stage roadshow in Patna

Roadshows have emerged as a preferred tool for political parties. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes a lead, other leaders are not behind when it comes to organising road shows. Newly-appointed BJPs working national president Nitin Nabin will also stage a roadshow in Patna on Tuesday during his maiden visit to the state after assuming his new post. Whether road show is more effective than a public meeting for attracting people towards political parties, particularly during elections, remains debatable. Although there is no easy answer to it, the better option will become evident with time. Prashant Kishor to meet Priyanka Gandhi again Jan Suraaj Party (JSP)s founder Prashant Kishor has played his role meaningfully in assisting political parties win elections but has failed miserably to prove himself in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly election. However, the performance of Congress with which he was hobnobbing before embarking on a journey across Bihar and launching his own party was dismal. Now, theres speculation over a second meeting between Kishor and Gandhi. No leader from either party confirmed it but the moot question is whether it will make any difference. While die hard optimists are putting forward arguments, some political pundits claim two zeros will not add up to one. Prakash Parv preps in state reaches final stage Bihar government has started final preparations for the 359th Prakash Parv of Shri Govind Singh Ji Maharaj at Patna Sahib, which is to be attended by thousands of Sikh devotees from the country and abroad. State Tourism department minister Arun Shankar Prasad held a high-level meeting to assess arrangements and ensure that pilgrims face no difficulty during their visit. During discussions focussed on issues related to providing good facilities, maintaining cleanliness and ensuring strong security. State tourism department officials said that a dedicated tent city is being set up to facilitate the pilgrims stay. Ramashankar Our correspondent in Bihar ramashankar@newindianexpress.com

Bihar 'almost' rid of Maoist menace, no major incidents reported in last three to four years

The number of Naxal-infested districts used to be 22 in 2013, but now the number of such districts is nil because of anti-Naxal operations in the State. Combating Naxal menace a joint responsibility of centre and states: Bihar CM The polices swift action and strict vigil led to the arrest of 3.35 lakh persons between January 2025 and November 2025 in major criminal cases, he said. He added that 5620 persons were arrested in connection with murder cases, 1054 in dacoity cases, 2082 in loot cases, 3630 in SC & ST Act and in rape and kidnapping cases. Besides, police seized 4528 firearms and 28414 cartridges during the same period. A better intelligence gathering mechanism has led to a gradual reduction in incidents of communal tensions in the state, he said. Chaudhary was addressing the media persons here at Suchna Bhawan. He was accompanied by DGP Vinay Kumar, ADG (Law & Order) Pankaj Kumar Darad, Secretary & IG (Jail) Pranav Kumar, and Special Secretary K S Anupam were present during the Press Conference. A seperate cyber crime control unit to be set up With a view to give special thrust on rising cyber-related incidents, a separate vertical structure for the cyber crime control unit has been set up in the State, and it will be headed by an ADG-rank police official, DGP Vinay Kumar said. A total of 24.38 lakh cyber-related complaint calls have been received on the NCRP helpline portal till December 15, 2025, he said, while adding that 1.10 lakh online complaints and 24,100 online complaints relating to other cyber crimes have been reported on the NCRP portal this year. Prosecution For effective implementation of three new criminal cases, the prosecution directorate has been strengthened, for which various categories of 760 posts have been created for the Bihar Prosecution Service, DGP said, adding that the Bihar Electronic Order (for issuance, receipt and disposal) Rules 2025 and E-Sakshya Management Rules 2025 have been notified. A district prosecution directorate has been constituted in every district, he said, adding that Bihar has become the first state to launch trial in absentia following the implementation of new criminal laws of BNS, BNSS. Home Ministry declares six Bihar districts Naxal-free A total of 2,99,927 pending cases have been disposed of in the year 2025, he said and added that 1,43,878 accused persons have been sentenced in 1,05,291 cases. Meet Mohammad Izhar - The Left-arm Pacer From Bihar Who Caught The Eye Of Mumbai Indians

The Bihar Cricket Association: Mohammad Izhar had little time to savour the feeling of his IPL dream coming true. As his name was called out at the IPL 2026 auction, the left-arm pacer from Birpur in Bihars Supaul district was already racing against the clock - within 15-20 minutes, he needed to board a bus for a six-hour ride to Patna, where the Vijay Hazare Trophy camp awaited him. When the auction was on, I was at home with my brothers in law. While from the outside I was very excited and nervous, I was very anxious about whether my name will come in the auction or not. Finally, the Mumbai Indians picked me and it brought in a different level of happiness. While I was feeling very good and excited about getting a chance to be in IPL, I became very emotional. Though everyone began celebrating at home, I had to leave to catch the bus for Patna, so I didn't celebrate it much, Izhar recalled in an exclusive conversation with IANS. The five-time champions have been renowned for unearthing uncapped gems through a robust scouting system. Though they had a small purse in IPL 2026 auction, picking Izhar for his base price of Rs 30 lakh is very much a signal that they may have unearthed another gem in the making. Even as he remained engaged with the trials of Kolkata Knight Riders, Izhar recalled how the five-time champions chose patience in having a look at him. Though Mumbai Indians is a big franchise, they are so humble, which even words cannot explain. When they called me for a trial, I was at KKR's trial. But despite being such a big team, they waited for me to come for the trials. When I reached, I was very tired, but I saw they waited for me and told me to rest for a while, so that I could bowl comfortably after recovering. I rested well and then went through the trials very well. It's a very good franchise and the coaches there were very humble. Izhar's cricketing journey began in Birpur, a town in Supaul district, where tennis ball cricket was the gateway to bigger dreams. His transition to leather ball cricket came through a chance observation by his local mentor Jaichand, who spotted raw talent that others missed. Jaichand bhaiya and Birbal bhaiya got me into leather ball cricket and taught me a lot for the last 2-3 years. Previously, I played tennis ball cricket and in one of the games, Jaichand bhaiya saw me bowling and then he told me to start playing with a leather ball. I then went on to play for the district and initially it felt a little tough as I was straightaway playing these games without having played leather ball cricket before. But it began so well that I havent looked back after that. Birbal bhaiya is a star bowler himself. I learnt a lot from him and Jaichand, who himself was a cricketer, he added. Watching legendary fast bowlers Mitchell Starc, Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee also transformed Izhars casual interest into a Junoon (passion) to play cricket. Starc has always been my idol from the start. Then seeing Akhtar and Lee take wickets brought in a junoon in me about playing cricket. From the start, it was not like I will play for India or be in IPL. Gradually, I started playing and those thing started to come in my mind. You do get a good understanding of these things once you start to put yourself through the grind. I started setting aims that I want to play for the state and do well there. It was in my mind that I wanted to play in the IPL, though the goal of playing for India is still at the top. But I didn't anticipate that I will get picked this year. So, I am very thankful to God that I got picked for IPL this year. Like many young cricketers from smaller towns, Izhar's early journey wasn't paved with automatic support. Bihar's limited cricketing infrastructure meant initial struggles were there, but his father's growing belief in him transformed everything. When I started playing, my father started giving me a lot of support. He began to understand that I have games to play and do well in them. The support from him grew so much that he started taking care of everything around me by himself. Whenever I got small bruises, he would put a bandage quickly at home. The Bihar Cricket Association's faith proved equally crucial, especially after Izhar had a disappointing previous season. The backing from BCA officials, including previous President Rakesh Tiwari, allowed Izhar to rebuild confidence and rediscover form when it mattered most. Last year, I did not get anything great in terms of performances. I started preparing for this season early and the association trusted me to come good. So I am very thankful for that to all of them in BCA. I am very thankful for the chances because of which I got selected for the IPL. I had a good performance this time in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (taking nine wickets in five games in Kolkata), where the IPL scouts saw me, called me for trials, got into the auction and now I will be in IPL. Izhars bowling arsenal centers on both inswing and outswing, complemented by variations of slower ball essential for success in T20s. Operating around 135 kmph, Izhar acknowledges his game remains a work in progress, particularly his execution of yorker and consistency with swing deliveries. I also have the yorker in my repertoire, but I need to groom and polish it more. In all, I need to do everything better because I am not always perfect. Like my in swing and out swing is not perfect yet, and I need to work on it more. I always try to work on the small things and make my bowling better. Plus, there are some variations of slower ball that I need to polish and groom more. With an IPL deal in hand, Izhar will have access to two masters of the craft - Trent Boult, whose left-arm swing bowling mirrors Izhar's own style, and Jasprit Bumrah, whose yorkers and control have redefined modern-day fast bowling. Boult bowls with the left arm like me and Bumrah swings the ball well. His yorkers are deadly. I am going to learn a lot from them. For youngsters from modest cricketing outposts, Izhars rise carries a clear message: patience and persistence outweigh the lure of instant success. His journey from tennis-ball matches in Birpur to an IPL contract with MI stands as validation of that belief. Also Read: Live Cricket Score Now on the cusp of wearing MIs iconic blue and gold in IPL 2026, Izhars emergence adds fresh momentum to his promising cricketing story. Sakib Hussain Ready For Fresh Start In IPL Bandwagon After Being Picked By SRH

Tunna Giri Cricket Academy: Sakib Hussain was at Bihars Vijay Hazare Trophy camp in Patna when Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him for his base price of Rs 30 lakh at the IPL 2026 auction. The move marks the start of a new IPL chapter for Hussain, the right-arm pacer who tasted championship glory with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2024, though he didnt get to play a single game. At the time of the auction, we were at the Vijay Hazare Trophy camp in Patna. When SRH picked me, I felt really good because the things where I had my shortcomings, I did improve on them during the IPL and implemented that in domestic games. I have made sure to leave no stone unturned in overcoming those shortcomings and do well whenever a chance comes to play in the tournament, said Hussain in an exclusive conversation with IANS. Hussains path of coming back to the IPL involved trials with Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and KKR before SRH got him in the auction. Shortly after that, he received an encouraging call from the franchise's bowling coach and former India pacer Varun Aaron. Varun Aaron told me to get ready and that I have to do well and move ahead by working hard. On hearing this, first of all, I thanked him and the SRH team for taking me in. He replied back by telling me that this is just the fruit of your hardwork. Despite not getting a game in IPL 2024, Hussains time with KKR proved invaluable, as the Gopalganj native got masterclass from some of cricket's biggest names like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh and coach Abhishek Nayar. All of them taught me a lot of good things. Like, the way they planned, playing with a different mindset on match day, and how to judge a player, I got to learn a lot of things there, he said. Hussain also learnt a valuable lesson in KKR - that physical talent alone wouldn't separate the good from the great at a higher level. In my time of being in KKR, one big thing I learnt was cricket is a mind game. The one who thinks well plays well on the field. Everyone is talented, but the one who thinks well, plays well. In the IPL, on a daily basis, you have to think and plan about what to do. Sometimes you have to change your plan in seconds and I got to learn about how to do that. Hussains journey traces back to humble beginnings at Tunna Giri Cricket Academy in Gopalganj, where coach Robin Singh became his pillar of support through every high and low. People like Saket bhaiya, Kumar bhaiya at the academy have supported me. My coach Robin Singh is the most special person in my life. He has helped me through ups and downs, as well as been in my good and bad times. Hes supported me a lot, he said. He also credited the Bihar Cricket Association leadership - President Harsh Vardhan, Rakesh Tiwari, and Secretary Rahul - for creating pathways that helped a small-town cricketer like him to play at the highest level. They all have helped me in going from playing in a small town to such a big stage. They have supported me a lot and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart. Looking ahead to his stint with SRH, Hussain is eager to learn from captain Pat Cummins and other international stars in the setup. In IPL, you get a good coach and mentor who can guide you well. But everywhere you go, the main interest is in playing at any given opportunity and that aids your growth. In the Hyderabad team, a lot of legendary players like skipper Pat Cummins are present, as I will get to learn a lot and carry those lessons very well. Hussains bustling pace in his domestic performances caught the attention of IPL scouts, particularly a remarkable 10-wicket haul against Arunachal Pradesh in the first half of Ranji Trophy and taking six wickets in Bihars Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy league games in Kolkata. In matches, I just keep things simple and focus on what I want to do, which was to pick timely breakthroughs. It also helps that I never think too far and keep focus on doing things in the present moment in the match. Also Read: Live Cricket Score Having experienced the euphoria of an IPL title with KKR, Hussain signed off by saying hes hungry to recreate that success in SRH colours. Definitely we will try to become the winning team again in the IPL next year. It will be very good to have a picture there with the trophy again on my Instagram profile. I am very excited to learn a lot and do well to win the trophy for SRH this time. Article Source: IANS

Insider track | Rahul in Munich, disquiet in Delhi

Congress may be leading the charge against the G-RAM-G Bill, but Rahul Gandhis no-show during the Lok Sabha debate has left party corridors buzzing and not in a good way. With the Leader of the Opposition in Germany, visuals of him inspecting BMW cars and bikes in Munich on the very day of the debate sharpened the unease. The BJP predictably pounced on the optics, but the piercing murmurs were within the INDIA bloc itself. Allies and Congress leaders privately felt that Rahul should have anchored the resistance against what they see as the dismantling of a UPA-era flagship law. The debate lacked punch, admitted one insider, pointing to the contrast with the Rajya Sabha, where Mallikarjun Kharge led a far more muscular Opposition attack. The hunted teaches the hunter Probationer IPS officers at Hyderabads SVPNPA were in for an unexpected reality check when the Academy hosted a surprise guest surrendered Maoist leader Pulluri Prasada Rao, better known as Chandranna. A central committee member until his surrender on October 28, Chandranna turned a routine Left-Wing Extremism module into an intense, no-holds-barred dialogue. Trainees grilled him on questions they had only seen in manuals funding networks, forest logistics, cadre movement and survival strategies. Chandranna answered candidly, laying bare the Maoist organisational spine. One remark lingered long after the session ended. Maoists never targeted police officials who were upright and stood for the cause of the people, he told them. A source said the words hit the minds of young officers six weeks after Chandranna laid down arms. Nitin Nabins dahi-chura moment The joke doing the rounds in BJP circles says it all Bihar in BJP or BJP in Bihar? Ever since five-time Patna MLA Nitin Nabin was named Working National President, the party headquarters has worn a distinctly Bihari flavour. When Nabin arrived to take charge, it wasnt luggage but dahi-chura and makhana-kheer that stole the show, served generously to workers and media alike. BJP beat reporters, often grumbling about access, were seen happily digging in. At least with Nitin ji, dahi-chura se hamara bhi swagat hua, quipped a journalist. The symbolism peaked when Amit Shah, accompanied by Dharmendra Pradhan, stood to receive Nabin. Esi ko bhag kahte hain, smiled workers, spotting fate and hope at play. Ram ji then, G-RAM-G now For decades, the BJPs most potent mobilisation cry was Ram Ji. Now, party strategists are dusting off that playbook for a new acronym G-RAM-G. As Opposition protests intensify over the alleged dilution of MGNREGA, the BJP is preparing a nationwide outreach to sell its revamped rural employment scheme. Party sources say the focus will be on explaining amendments and countering what they call Congress-spread misinformation. If not clarified at once, fake messages can cause electoral disasters, warned a senior BJP leader. With Congress planning mass protests over what it calls the ending of a Mahatma Gandhi-named law, the saffron party wants to flip the narrative insisting G-RAM-G strengthens, not weakens, rural livelihoods. After January 14, insiders say, the campaign may mirror the sustained Ram temple mobilisation development replacing devotion.

Bihar Congress to reset party structure from panchayat level up after assembly loss

PATNA: The Congress will launch a comprehensive campaign to revive the party in Bihar after its dismal performance in the recent Assembly election by strengthening its organisation at the grassroots level. After the inauspicious period of Kharmas ends on January 14, the party will launch the campaign to empower the partys organisation down to the panchayat level, identify organisational weaknesses, and infuse new energy into the party workers. As part of the partys initiative for revival, senior and experienced Congress leaders will camp in various districts and review party activities from the district to the panchayat level. A concrete action plan for the future will be prepared based on its findings. The party sources said that the campaign would be conducted in a phased manner across the state. In each district, a team of senior leaders will stay for a few days to assess the organisational situation at the district, block, and panchayat levels. During this time, a detailed review will be conducted of the partys activities, booth-level strength, progress of the membership drive, and the reasons for the electoral defeat. Direct communication will be established with local leaders and workers during the district camps. Workers will be encouraged to express their problems openly, give suggestions, and list out local issues so that shortcomings can be addressed. The partys senior leaders will also assess which areas have weak organisational structures and how they need to be reorganised. Emphasis will also be placed on identifying inactive office-bearers, assigning responsibilities to active workers, and giving a more effective role to Yuva Congress and Mahila Congress. In the last Assembly election, Congress could win only 6 out of 61 seats it contested. Fresh approach Direct communication will be established with local leaders and workers during the district camps. Workers will be encouraged to express their problems openly, give suggestions, and list out local issues so that shortcomings can be addressed.

Smriti Mandhana Shatters Huge World Record, Enters Elite Women's T20I List

1st T20I: Jemimah's 69 Not Out, Bowlers Help India Women Beat Sri Lanka By Eight Wickets

Rajasekhara Reddy ACA: Jemimah Rodrigues continued her superb form from the Women's ODI World Cup as she slammed an unbeaten half-century to help India capitalise on a good bowling performance to beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the first match of the five-match women's T20I series in Visakhapatnam. After the Indian bowlers came up with a superb performance to restrict Sri Lanka to a modest 121/6 in 20 overs, Jemimah, who scored a century to help India reach the World Cup final, scored 69 not out off 44 balls on Sunday and helped India race to 122/2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium and win the match with 32 balls to score. Jemimah scored her half-century off 34 balls as she struck 10 boundaries and shared two half-century partnerships -- 54 for the second wicket stand with Smriti Mandhana, who scored a run-a-ball 25 after India lost Shafali Verma (9) early, and an unfinished 55-run partnership with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for the third wicket. Jemimah built her knock with patience and then unleashed some superb shots, was quick on her feet, played late cuts superbly, and ran brilliantly, at times egging Mandhana and Harmanpreet to put in an extra effort. Mandhana and Rodrigues repaired the Indian innings after Verma clipped Kawya Kavindi to square leg, where Gimhani picked a smart catch, diving forward. Smriti was her usual left, cautious, and patient as he scored 25, becoming the first Indian batter to reach 4000 runs in women's T20I cricket. She hit four boundaries before being caught by Nilakshika Silva at deep extra cover off Inoka Ranaweera. Rodrigues found a willing partner in skipper Harmanpreet Kaur as they guided India to a comprehensive win with the captain scoring 15 not out as India went up 1-0 in the five-match series. Earlier, the bowlers made an easy win possible for India in a match in which both teams were hampered by copious dew. After skipper Harmanpreet Kaur elected to field on winning the toss in their first outing since winning the Women's ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai, the Indian bowlers strangled the Sri Lankan batters despite atrocious fielding that included a few dropped catches, misfields and a six palmed-over by Smriti Mandhana as the 50 overs World Champions struggled to adjust with the short format, which they were playing after a big break. The Sri Lankans were not much better and struggled with the T20 format after they lost skipper Chamari Athapaththu for 15 off 12 balls as they managed to score only 31/1 in the Power-play. The Sri Lankan captain struck three fours in the first couple of overs before Kranti Gaud managed to sneak a ball through the gap between the bat and pad to rattle the stumps for her first Women's T20I wicket. Though debutant spinner Vaishavi Sharma failed to get a wicket, she conceded only 16 runs in her four overs as the Indians tied the Sri Lankans in knots. Deepti Sharma conceded only 10 runs in three overs, while N Shree Charani was comparatively costly in her spell of 1-30 in four overs. She was also guilty of dropping two easy skiers. For India, Kranti Gaud (1-23), Deepti Sharma (1-20), and N. Shree Charani (1-30) claimed a wicket each. Vishmi Gunaratne waged a lone battle for Sri Lanka as she scored a slow 39 off 43 balls, hitting a four and a six before she was run out to a piece of good work by Kranti Gaud. She shared a 38-run partnership with Harshitha Samarawickrama, but once the latter was out, Sri Lanka's batting effort got derailed once again. Hasini Perera 20 off 23 and Harshitha Samarawickrama (21 off 23) got starts but could not capitalise on them. But they helped the Islanders cross into three figures, though they could not manage to hit any big shots. Both India and Sri Lanka have gone into the match with contrasting selection decisions. While India showed trust in the tried and tested, retaining a majority of players that figured in their triumphant 50-over World Cup winning campaign, Sri Lanka picked several youngsters as both teams try to find the best combination for the Women's T20 World Cup to be held later in 2026. Hasini Perera 20 off 23 and Harshitha Samarawickrama (21 off 23) got starts but could not capitalise on them. JMM distances itself from Health Minister's remarks offering job to Muslim doctor involved in Bihar hijab incident

RANCHI: The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Sunday distanced itself from the remarks of Health Minister Irfan Ansari , who offered a job to the female Muslim doctor who was allegedly assaulted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a public event in Patna last week. JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said that there is no provision empowering the minister to offer a job with a salary of Rs 3 lakh per month. I dont think a minister can provide a Rs 3 lakh job to anyone. However, the issue that is being suppressed should be discussed, the JMM spokesperson said, stressing that the minister's statement was personal. The party was responding to Ansari's remarks, inviting the female doctor to Jharkhand and offering her a job with a monthly salary of Rs 3 lakh. I have invited the woman doctor to Jharkhand and offered her a job with a Rs 3 lakh monthly salary, a flat, a desired posting and full security, the minister said in Jamtara on Saturday. The minister was responding to the December 15 incident in Patna, where Nitish Kumar pulled the veil (naqab) off the face of a newly-recruited AYUSH doctor while she was receiving her letter of appointment. He accused Nitish Kumar of attempting to demean the hijab (veil) and the Muslim community through the act. Without naming anyone, Ansari also contrasted the incident with Jharkhand's governance. This is Jharkhand. Governance here is sensitive, inclusive and rooted in respect for human dignity, the minister said. Nusrat Parveen, a doctor hailing from Kolkata, was among ten Ayush doctors who had turned up at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Secretariat on December 15 to receive their letters of appointment. When Parveen's turn came, the 75-year-old CM pointed towards her veil and exclaimed 'what is this' before pulling it down and exposing her face. The incident has drawn widespread criticism , with many accusing Nitish Kumar of disrespecting Muslim traditions, allegedly in line with the RSS agenda. Meanwhile, former BJP minister C P Singh alleged a possible connection between the woman doctor and the Al-Falah University in Haryana, which has come under scanner in connection with the alleged white collar terror module. Singh demanded an NIA inquiry into the episode and said Ansari was not the health minister for one community alone. People from this particular community want to establish Ghazwa-e-Hind. Therefore, the NIA should investigate whether Nusrat Parveen has any connection to Al-Falah University, the BJP leader alleged. 1st T20I: Bowlers Help India Women Restrict Sri Lanka To 121/6

Rajasekhara Reddy ACA: Indian bowlers came up with a superb performance to restrict Sri Lanka to a modest 121/6 in 20 overs in the first match of the five-match women's T20I bilateral series at the Dr. Y.S. Health check-up or politics? Bihar CM Nitish Kumars Delhi visit may include ModiShah meet

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday left for a two-day tour of the national capital, where he is expected to meet top NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, officials said that CM is in Delhi for a routine health checkup and treatment of his eyes This is Nitishs first visit to the national capital after the NDAs landslide victory in the recently concluded Bihar assembly elections. Officials said that after reaching New Delhi, Nitish will first go to his residence and then visit AIIMS-Delhi for his checkup. Nitish usually undergoes a full medical examination of his body at AIIMS-Delhi at least for once in a year. Doctors at AIIMS Delhi has been monitoring his health for a long time. Nitishs visit to New Delhi is a part of his regular health checkup, said a senior official posted at CM secretariat. He, however, refused to disclose his other programmes. During his stay, Janata Dal (United) supremo is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He is expected to discuss NDAs future strategy for Bihar as the new government has to fulfil pre-poll announcements in the next five years. The issues like cabinet expansion in January are also likely to be discussed during their meeting. The change in leadership of BJP both at the national and state levels is expected to be taken up at the meeting for better coordination between two alliance partners. The appointment of five-term MLA from Bihar Nitin Nabin as working national president of BJP has political pandits guessing about the partys future plans. Another issue that may come up for discussion is the much-speculated entry into politics of Nishant, the only son of the state's longest-serving chief minister. Recently, JD(U) working president and Kumar's close aide Sanjay Kumar Jha had said there was a strong sentiment within the party in favour of Nishant's entry into public life and expressed hope that the reclusive 47-year-old would take a decision. Elections to a few Rajya Sabha and Bihar Legislative Council seats, due in 2026, could also be discussed. With its overwhelming majority in the Assembly, the NDA is expected to be in a position to secure several seats at the expense of the weakened opposition, sources added. The 45-year-old MLA is set to be made full time president of the party after six months. During his previous visit to New Delhi, Nitish had undergone cataract surgery at AAIMS Delhi, which was successful and he returned to Patna after treatment. However, his visit to the national capital has heated up states political temperature. (With additional inputs from PTI)

Responsibility Is More Because Expectations Are Going To Be More, Says Jemimah Ahead Of SL T20Is

SL T20Is: India batter Jemimah Rodrigues believes the Womens World Cup triumph has brought greater responsibility for the team as they gear up for the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting Sunday. The series marks Indias first international assignment since lifting the World Cup last month. Reflecting on the aftermath of the title win, Jemimah said the tournament's impact has already been felt beyond the field. It's been a while since, you know. Life has definitely changed after the World Cup. A lot many people have been recognising women's cricket, and I think that is one of the biggest achievements that this World Cup has had, she said in a video shared by the BCCI. Jemimah echoed the sentiments earlier expressed by vice captain Smriti Mandhana, underlining the long-term significance of the victory. I was just hearing Smriti's interview after the World Cup, what she had given, and she said that we will not realise it now, but the kind of impact this World Cup is going to have is going to impact the generations. And it's going to be big, it's going to be massive, so can't wait to see that. And yeah, at the same time, you know, now what has happened has happened. While the team takes pride in its achievement, Jemimah stressed that the focus has already shifted to future challenges. Yes, we take pride in what we've done as a team, but it's just the beginning. Now is the time when I think the responsibility is more because the expectations are going to be more, and at the same time, the T20 World Cup, that's our focus now. Yes, it's about winning World Cups, but it's also how we can be the best Indian team we've ever been. The 25-year-old highlighted the need for continuous improvement, especially with the shorter format demanding higher intensity. And when we think of it that way, I think that hard work never stops. You improving never stops. You keep improving every single day, little by little by little. Jemimah added that complacency would be the biggest enemy following success. So I think it's a greater responsibility for us, and we know what we've done, but we also know that we can't stop them. We need to keep going. T20, I feel, compared to the ODIs, the intensity is much higher. She also spoke about the tactical demands of T20 cricket, particularly for bowlers. It's a shorter format and we know that it has a lot of explosiveness to it. And I think that even as a team, we are working towards. T20, we know, even for bowlers, the batter is going to come hard at least but if we can nail those yorkers, nail those wide yorkers, the slow ones, I think it's also going to be a game of smartness and preparation where we can go out and execute what we do. Jemimah added that complacency would be the biggest enemy following success. So I think it's a greater responsibility for us, and we know what we've done, but we also know that we can't stop them. We need to keep going. T20, I feel, compared to the ODIs, the intensity is much higher. Guv defends CM Nitish action in hijab row, doctor fails to report back at work

PATNA: Contrary to the expectations, Ayush doctor Dr Nursat Parveen, who hit the national headlines after Bihar CM Nitish Kumar pulled down her hijab (veil) at an official function in Patna last week, did not join her job on Saturday. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan defended CM Kumar, saying that there could never be any conflict between a father and a daughter. Nitish Kumar is like a father to Nusrat, and it is wrong to label the affection and discipline a father shows towards his daughter as a conflict, he added. There are few instances in the past when the health department has given an extension, he added. Dr Parveen has been posted at Sabalpur primary health centre (PHC) in Patna Sadar, and was expected to complete the joining formalities by Saturday at 6 pm. However, she failed to report even after the expiry of the deadline.According to the health departments procedure, Dr Parveen has to go through several formal steps before starting her work. These include a medical examination and verification of documents at the State Health Committee. Patna civil surgeon Dr Avinash Kumar Singh confirmed that Dr Parveen did not join her duty on Saturday. He said that now the state health department could give her extension for joining her duty. According to health department officials, 75 AYUSH doctors were selected. Out of which 63 have joined. Remaining 12 doctors are yet to join duty. Dr Nusrat Parveen is among the 12 doctors who have not joined yet, a senior health department official said. Meanwhile, a political row erupted after Jharkhand health minister Dr Irfan Ansari, while lashing out at Nitish, offered a government job to Dr Parveen, promising to pay a salary of `3 lakh per month, and a posting of her choice in the Jharkhand health department.

Tharoor warns of Bangladesh unrest, calls for peace and respect for democratic norms

PATNA: Senior Congress leader and chairperson of the parliamentary standing committee on external affairs, Shashi Tharoor, on Saturday expressed deep concern over the prevailing mob rule and instability in Bangladesh, warning that the unrest could adversely affect both Bangladesh and India. Speaking to media at Patna airport ahead of his participation in the five-day Nalanda Literature Festival, starting Sunday at Rajgir, Tharoor said that mob rule in Bangladesh was not good either for Bangladesh or India. He stressed that Indias interest is driven by a stable and democratic Bangladesh, and peace and democratic norms must be upheld. Elections are also going to be held there in February, and we want democracy to return there, but the way the situation is going there is very concerning, he said, adding, Such a situation is not good for both countries; we want peace there. Tharoor also expressed concern over the mob lynching of 27-year-old Hindu man Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladeshs Mymensingh district over alleged blasphemy. He questioned the countrys interim government on what steps were being taken to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent such incidents in the future. Such mob rule should not prevail. The Parliamentary Standing Committee has also said that we want good relations with Bangladesh, and peace should be maintained there, he added. Addressing another recent incident, Tharoor commented on a viral video showing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar allegedly pulling down a womans hijab. He said, All women should be respected, and this incident was not right. Earlier on X, Tharoor expressed concern over targeted attacks on Bangladeshi media outlets. Deeply concerned by the reports from Bangladesh. The targeted mob attacks and arson at the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Starn are more than just an assault on two media houses; they are an assault on the freedom of the press and the very foundation of a pluralistic society. I am concerned about the well-being of editor @MahfuzAnamDS and other courageous journalists, he wrote. Tharoors comments come amid heightened tensions in Bangladesh, with mob attacks, arson, and violence raising alarms over the state of law and order and the stability of democratic governance in the region.
