BOBBY AUR RISHI KI LOVE STORY pays homage to HUM TUM and BEFORE SUNRISE but it falters Movie Review: BOBBY AUR RISHI KI LOVE STORY falters due to absence of conflict

Star Cast: Vardhaan Puri, Kaveri Kapur Director: Kunal Kohli Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story Movie Review Synopsis: BOBBY AUR RISHI KI LOVE STORY is the tale of a boy and a girl. Kaushalya Prajapati aka Bobby (Kaveri Kapur) is flying from Glasgow to Cardiff. The flight is diverted to Heathrow due to a volcanic ash cloud situation. At the airport, she bumps into Rishi (Vardhaan Puri). Rishi gets smitten by Bobby and he follows her to the railway station. Bobby gets onto a train heading to Cambridge and so does Rishi. Bobby confronts Rishi for being a creep but soon, both start talking. They explore Cambridge and fall for each other. But Bobby has just had an ugly break-up and is commitment-phobic. As a result, both go their separate ways. What happens next forms the rest of the film. Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story Movie Story Review: Kunal Kohli's story is ordinary. Kunal Kohli's screenplay (additional screenplay by Hardik Gajjar) has its moments but falls flat, especially as the conflict is not too strong. Hardik Gajjar's dialogues are youthful and also deep. The comic one-liners could have been funnier. Kunal Kohli's direction is simple. He pays homage to his earlier film HUM TUM [2004] and also the BEFORE SUNRISE series as for most parts of the film, the protagonists are walking around and talking to each other about life and love. A parallel track is also going on of the protagonists at the therapists clinic and it keeps one intrigued as to what must have made them take this step. The mid-point, when the lovers separate, is emotional. On the flipside, the conflict and the entire track of the parents are not convincing and seem superficial. Moreover, theres not much of a story and the narrative stagnates in between. There are 2 songs of similar type in the first half and it needlessly adds to the run time, even though the film is just 97 minutes long. The pre-climax is funny but the film drops in the last scene when the charactersreveal why they decide to opt for therapy. It comes all of a sudden. Probably, it shows the real picture of todays relationships but again, it could have been far more convincing. Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story | Official Trailer | Streaming 11 Feb Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story Movie Review Performances: Vardhaan Puri delivers a confident performance. Hes naturally charming and it works well for his character. He does well in the emotional scenes too. Kaveri Kapur does great in her debut film. Shes still a bit raw in some scenes but overall, she manages to do a fine job. Her voice also adds to her appeal. Lillete Dubey (Dr Shanaya Kharody) is dependable as always. Seema Bowri (Seema; Bobbys mother) tries too hard to be cool. Sameer Suri (Bobbys father) and Nisha Aaliya (Riya; Bobbys sister) are okay. Sonam Nanwani (Anjali; Rishis friend) makes her presence felt. Raj Zutshi (Rishis father) is fair. Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story movie music and other technical aspects: The songs are catchy but might not have a huge shelf life. 'Tappe' stands out for its lyrics and also as it gives a dj vu of 'Ladki Kyun Na Jaane Kyun' from HUM TUM. 'Koi Koi' comes next but is too similar to the first track and the same goes for 'Tumse Kyun'. 'Reminisce' is soulful and sung beautifully by Kaveri. 'Hoor' is catchy. Amar Mohile's background is urbane and modern, just like the film. Andrew Hall's cinematography is neat and the focus is more on the characters and not the beautiful locales. The production design is top-class while the costumes are glamorous. Sanjay Sankla and Pratul Gaikawd's editing is slick. Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, BOBBY AUR RISHI KI LOVE STORY pays a nice homage to HUM TUM and BEFORE SUNRISE series but it falters due to the absence of a strong conflict in the narrative.

HSBCs latest campaign showcases NRIs deep connection with their Indian roots

Ever since the advancement of the advertising industry in India, weve witnessed a slew of impactful campaigns, most notable among them being the ones that can connect directly with the heartstrings of consumers. This is because one cannot ignore emotions. Advertisers are known to reel in emotions to create an impact on the consumer, which makes their ad memorable and therefore affects informed decisions made by the target audience. Only recently, HSBC India unveiled a comprehensive campaign to meet the specialised financial needs of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). A new ad film titled Homestalgia aims to strengthen HSBC Indias position as the preferred banking partner for NRIs by showcasing its international offerings tailored to this audience. The campaign ticked all the boxes when it comes to connecting with the NRI community. The quintessential message that the bank wants the viewers to grasp is that banking with HSBC India ensures that no matter where in the world one is, theyre never far from home. Moreover, the campaign aimed to build on the message of how home is a part of you, even when it's far away. It's where your heart is, where you feel at peace. You may have left home, but home will never leave you. Thats the feeling of 'Homestalgia' the love and longing that stays with you. As a result, the film features four protagonists of Indian origin, living abroad. These could be anyone we know, business owners, working professionals, students, etc. All four characters who dream of home and their loved ones come across a magical red door adorned with HSBC Indias logo (a metaphor showcasing a gateway which reconnects them with their Indian roots). As each character interacts with the door, they are overcome with feelings of nostalgia, symbolising the unbroken connection to their roots. The door serves as a powerful calling from home, reminding them that home is always with them, no matter where they are. Ultimately, the film concludes with the characters reuniting with their families and loved ones, savouring joyful moments they had long missed while living abroad. Consequently, the film instills in us how away as you may be, theres always a way back. The leap of faith you take is what you call coming home a moment that brings you back to your roots, your memories, and the warmth of those who truly matter. One standout feature of this campaign is its focus on creating a deep emotional connection with NRIs. HSBC India has introduced a unique red door installation in all its branches, featuring nostalgic elements that evoke memories of India and childhood, fostering a sense of homecoming for visiting NR customers. Red door branch image: HSBC Fort branch, Mumbai Moreover, the central message of the campaign underscores the universal sentiment that, no matter where life takes us, the most cherished moments are those spent with family and in the embrace of our homeland. HSBC India positions itself as the financial gateway that bridges the gap, offering seamless banking, wealth management, and exclusive offers for NRIs. Additionally, HSBCs campaign intensely engages with both existing customers and prospective new ones, ensuring wide-reaching visibility and engagement. Moreover, this ad film integrates various touchpoints to engage NRIs worldwide and is supported by an extensive promotional strategy. Personalised communications form the foundation, utilising channels like email, WhatsApp, and HSBC Indias website to directly connect with potential customers. The bank is also leveraging out-of-home (OOH) advertising at airports, a strategic move to capture the attention of frequent international travellers. T3 Delhi Airport Digital outreach is a cornerstone of HSBC Indias strategy, with the master film and four product-focused videos highlighting the banks unique selling propositions. HSBC India has deployed a robust strategy involving social media amplification, video marketing, and targeted performance ads on platforms such as YouTube, Search Marketing, and DV360. The flagship film, which highlights HSBC Indias role in reconnecting NRIs with their roots, is being showcased in select PVR theatres to maximise reach and resonance.

Keralas property market sees shift as NRIs lose interest

KOCHI: Realty is in for a reality check. For generations, owning a home back in Kerala was the ultimate dream of many migrants from the state. However, times are changing. Second-generation non-resident Keralites are now less inclined to invest in building or buying a residence in their home state, opting instead for more liquid investment options. Migration expert S Irudaya Rajan confirmed a significant shift in investment trends among non-resident Indians (NRIs). According to Rajan, chair of the International Institute for Migration and Development and former professor at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), NRIs no longer view homes and land as viable investment opportunities. In fact, NRIs now refrain from buying or investing in houses and land unless they plan to reside in them, Rajan told TNIE. A recent study by Crisil, a leading ratings agency, corroborated this trend, highlighting a significant shift in the investment preferences of non-resident Keralites. One of the key findings of a sentiment survey conducted before its Real Estate Conclave (CREC), held in Kochi in December, revealed that the NRI customer base had dropped sharply over the years. A significant proportion of developers who were surveyed indicated that second-generation NRIs are less interested in investing in Keralas real-estate market due to better lifestyles and job opportunities in other markets. Developers see decline in high-end homes demand The report adds that developers are witnessing a decline in demand for high-end homes, mainly because of the trend of second-generation Keralites working in West Asia, Europe, USA, and Canada preferring to settle overseas. This also suggests a shift in preference from luxury apartments and villas to more affordable segments. The change also comes amidst reports that there are more than a million homes or residential buildings lying vacant or closed. According to the 2011 Census, the state had approximately 1.12 crore census houses, with around 11.89 lakh remaining vacant. Rajan noted that in the past only NRIs could afford to purchase homes, pushing builders to focus exclusively on this demographic. However, the trend has changed. Previously, people invested in homes as a financial asset, often owning three-four flats or plots of land. Now, they only buy with the intention of occupying the property, Rajan pointed out. Additionally, some individuals are selling their homes to join their children settled abroad, with no plans to return. As part of the data collection for the Kerala Migration Survey (KMS) 2023, many residences were found locked, because entire families had migrated. Around 4.2 lakh cases of family migration were identified in the survey. KMS 2023 estimated the number of emigrants from Kerala to be 22 lakh, with total incoming remittances in 2023 pegged at Rs 2.17 lakh crore.

MI Cape Town ease past Sunrisers Eastern Cape to reach playoffs for first time

Cape Town: MI Cape Town delivered a fielding, bowling and batting masterclass at Newlands on Wednesday evening to book their maiden appearance in the Betway SA20 Playoffs. It has now set up an all-Western Cape Qualifier 1 with current table-toppers Paarl Royals set to meet MI Cape Town at St Georges Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday, February 4. The winner will advance directly to the final at the Wanderers on Saturday, February 8. MI Cape Town were excellent from the outset with Dewald Brevis, Corbin Bosch and Reeza Hendricks claiming spectacular catches to help dismiss the Sunrisers Eastern Cape for just 109. Brevis, in particular, had the Newlands faithful gasping for air in awe as he flew horizontally to take a one-handed grab before rolling on the ground within a whisker of the boundary rope. (Fielding) is very important especially in this format. Today, before the game, we had the discussion to keep the continuity. I feel like the effort you put in fielding is very important. Fielding put us ahead in the game. Ground fielding was amazing, and I think it plays a huge role. It was important to finish with the bonus point and in top two, said MI Cape Town Rashid Khan. I feel it's so good for the team and I hope they continue. Were keep things simple and have fun. We had a very tough couple of years as a team. We just talked about to let's just have fun, have the basics right, put effort in field and forget about the last two years and I feel the way everyone stood up, took responsibility (has been the difference). Inspired by their fielding unit, the MI Cape Town bowlers responded with an equally excellent display, led by allrounder Boschs Betway SA20 career-best 4/19 and Kagiso Rabadas 2/14. David Bedingham tried his best to keep the Sunrisers afloat with a workmanlike run-a-ball 45, but did not have sufficient support from the moment his new opening partner Tony de Zorzi, who was on debut for the defending champions, succumbed early on to Rabada. The MI Cape Town run chase was never in doubt with Ryan Rickelton (59 not out off 36 balls, 8x4, 1x6) and Rassie van der Dussen (48 not out off 30 balls, 4x4, 2x6) hardly needing to drop down to second gear during their 110-run unbroken opening partnership. Van der Dussen displayed the early intent by striking Marco Jansen for a boundary and six in the first over before Rickelton continued his growing affection with Newlands. The only blip on a flawless evening for MI Cape Town was Van der Dussen missing out on a half-century by two runs after Rickelton had raised his bat to another sold out Newlands crowd moments earlier. The Sunrisers now have one all-important league match remaining against the Royals at St George's Park on Saturday to secure their playoff berth.

US courts blocking gives breather to NRIs

Hyderabad: A US federal judge temporarily blocking President Donald Trumps executive order to end birthright citizenship has brought relief to several NRIs and members of the Indian community living in the United States. Although Trump said on Thursday that his administration would appeal the ruling given by the federal court, more lawsuits and cases are being filed all across the country. Six lawsuits have been filed challenging Trump's order, most of them by Democratic attorneys generals from 22 states, with experts speculating the order would be blocked and ended permanently soon. However, news that the Trump administration is examining temporary legal arrivals under the Biden presidency has come as a fresh cause for worry. The controversial order by President Trump had sought to end the automatic granting of citizenship to children born on US soil, regardless of their parents' immigration status. The temporary block, until February 20, ensures that the law remains unchanged for now, providing reassurance to many immigrant families. Akanksha Gupta, a recently married IT professional living in California, said, It's a sense of relief that the order was blocked. The judges decision showed that the legal system in the US still works to protect the fundamental rights of citizens who come here for a livelihood. The decision comes as many immigrant communities closely monitor the legal battles over Trump policies. NRIs are hopeful that the courts will permanently strike it down. The order getting quashed was inevitable, said Bhanu Kumar, a student in New Jersey. It is completely against the 14th Amendment and several cases have already been fought on this matter. Those cases will now be used to completely thrash the executive order, he explained. Dinesh K., a graduate of Chicago, said, I moved to the US for opportunities, and I believe the country stands for equality. I am confident the courts will uphold that principle. Many believe this is not the last legal challenge Trump's policies will face. Immigrant rights organisations and Democratic leaders are expected to fight hard against other controversial decisions made by his administration. The legal battle over birthright citizenship is far from over, but for now, immigrant families can breathe a little easier.

Sunrisers raise the roof at St George's Park with fourth straight win

Sunrisers Eastern Cape raised the roof at St Georges Park with a fourth consecutive victory to power the defending champions into second place on the Betway SA20 table. Sunrisers are up to 19 points just one below the tabletopping Paarl Royals, who have played one game less. The 14-run victory over the Joburg Super Kings was hard earned with the Sunrisers once again relying on their captain Aiden Markram and their most senior bowler Marco Jansen. Markram held his teams innings together with a high-quality 43 from 29 balls, while Tristan Stubbs also enjoyed a welcome return to form with 35 not out off 22 balls. Opener David Bedingham also contributed a solid 37 that pushed the Sunrisers up to a highly-competitive 165-4. They have a strong batting line-up. It was there and thereabouts (with regards to a par score). 160, it felt like a good score. They bowled really well, said JSK captain Faf du Plessis. They bowled some tight overs, put pressure back on us. They (SEC) are very successful at home. Sunrisers' bowling attack has proved the difference over the last four matches and so they showed yet again on another rousing night in Gqeberha. And its Jansen that leads the way with the new ball in the Powerplay. Despite having Du Plessis (27 off 18 balls) dropped at slip by Simon Harmer, Jansen responded two balls later to dismiss the JSK skipper in exactly the same fashion. Harmer made amends by holding on to the chance the second time around. It was in fact good captaincy from Markram who gave Jansen a third over in the Powerplay in the hope of breaking a promising opening partnership between Du Plessis and Devon Conway. The New Zealand international laid down the anchor for the remainder of the JSK innings with 43 off 40 balls, but did not have sufficient support at the other end for the visitors to haul in the target. This was due to sustained pressure from the Sunrisers bowling attack with Richard Gleeson (2/37), Ottneil Baartman (2/32), Liam Dawson (1/10) and Markram (1/21) all chipping in to maintain the pressure on the Super Kings. They (bowling unit) are clear in their plans, have played a lot of T20 cricket. They assess conditions, come up with the plan and then it comes down to execution, Markram said. They have been clutch for us. Even tonight, the game was in the balance, they came up with plans and executed. More often than not, it is the execution by them. Odisha welcomes NRIs for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, showcasing rich art, culture

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is all set to begin in the capital city of our state of Odisha from Wednesday. A large number of NRIs and Indian diaspora members from nook and corner of the globe have arrived in the temple city of Bhubaneswar. We have left no stone unturned to extend royal hospitality to the guests. Though the biennial event is being organised by the Ministry of External Affairs, I on behalf of the people of the state, extend my gratitude to Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the convention is being held in our state capital. Honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will attend the three-day convention. According to Prime Minister Modiji, an ardent devotee of Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath, the more India shines and develops the more will be the influence, image and prestige of NRIs and Persons of Indian Origin abroad. The vision of Viksit Bharat will be realised when they have an emotional attachment with their motherland. They are hardworking and rich in knowledge, skills and technology having financial flexibility. Their participation in the upcoming convention will be helpful in building a Viksit Bharat. They will not only invest in India but also extend all possible support as brand ambassadors. More than 3.54 crore Indians living abroad will spread the glorious Indian culture through their conduct and practice thereby presenting India as the Vishwa Guru. In the run up to the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, The capital city has been decked up like a newly-wed bride. A plethora of events such as Patha Utsav, Ekamra Utsav, Adivasi Mela, flower exhibitions are being organised in different parts of the state capital. Efforts are being made to exhibit Odishas rich art and heritage. Raja Rani Music Festival, Mukteswar Dance Festival, Odissi Dance, and various folk dances will also be organised. Arrangements are being made to take guests to about 31 tourist spots in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Konark. A pavilion of Odisha will be set up at Janata Maidan, showcasing the Jagannath culture, historic Baliyatra, the Kalinga War, the transformation of emperor Ashoka from Chandashoka to Dharmashoka. Besides, a digital exhibition will also be held. More than 200 foreign journalists, YouTubers and bloggers from seven countries will also attend the event. Hence, I appeal to all the citizens of the state to make the event a grand success by adhering to the rules and regulations, discipline and cleanliness activities in the city. This is for the first time such a grand, large, and ambitious programme is being organised in an eastern Indian state. This is an opportunity which has become possible due to the foresight of the Prime Minister and his commitment towards the development of Odisha. The Prime Minister has emphasised on the development of Purvodaya, in which Odisha will be at the forefront. Without the development of Odisha in the Purvodaya, countrys overall development cannot be achieved. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention on Thursday. The inaugural event may be a formality, but his gracious presence will influence all the countrymen, not just the Indian diaspora. I urge the people of the state to celebrate this event as a festival, imbued with the mantra of Atithi Devo Bhava. Once the NRIs return after receiving the best hospitality, Odisha will forever be etched in their hearts. I once again welcome all the guests to the land of Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath.

Government targets of 3,500 Non-Resident Indians from over 50 countries, says NRIs

Bhubaneswar: With just days to go before the three-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention begins in Bhubaneswar, Odishas maiden attempt to host this prestigious event has garnered massive interest from the Indian diaspora worldwide. The convention, scheduled from January 8-10, is seeing a dramatic surge in registrations, underscoring its significance on the global stage. According to the state home department, daily registration numbers have climbed to over 150 in recent days, a marked increase from the 40-50 daily requests recorded just a week earlier. The state governments target of attracting 3,500 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from over 50 countries appears well within reach, with total attendance for the conclave projected to exceed 7,500, including local participants. Registrations have predominantly come from Indian residents in Southeast Asian nations, followed by Gulf countries and Europe. NRIs from Kerala, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh make up a significant portion of the registration pool, alongside a robust representation from Odisha. Officials attribute the heightened interest to Odishas strategic location along a 482-km coastline facing Southeast Asia, making it an ideal platform for fostering economic ties and attracting investment in sectors such as tourism and port-based infrastructure development. The 18th PBD, a biennial event that began in 2003 under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has previously been hosted by cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chennai, Varanasi, Bengaluru, and Indore. Bhubaneswar now joins this prestigious list, becoming the epicenter of NRI engagement for the first time. Adding vibrancy to the conclave, the citys civic authority and key state government departments have organised a series of parallel events, including a Night Flea Market, an Adivasi Fair, and a Food Festival. These attractions aim to provide attendees with an immersive experience of Odishas rich culture and heritage. The spillover effect of the conclaves popularity is evident in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Gagan Sarangi, Chairman of the Odisha chapter of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), noted a significant uptick in cab and hotel bookings for key tourist destinations like Puri and Konark. Majority of our tour and travel partners have confirmed increased bookings during the convention period. The numbers will only rise as the event approaches, Sarangi stated. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Odisha aligns seamlessly with the Government of Indias Act East Policy, which seeks to bolster economic and cultural connections with Indias eastern regions and neighboring Southeast Asian countries. The conventions agenda underscores Odishas potential as a gateway for investment and collaboration in the eastern corridor. The event will commence with the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 8, followed by the formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9. The conclave will conclude with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards ceremony on January 10, graced by President Droupadi Murmu, who will deliver the valedictory address. With preparations in full swing, Odisha is poised to make a lasting impression on the global NRI community, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward becoming a hub for international investment and cultural exchange, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi observed in an article published recently in an Odia daily.
