This year, December is going to be a treat for moviegoers. Shraddha Kapoors much-awaited period drama, Eetha, will release on December 4. Two weeks later, December 18 will witness the epic clash between Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three. A week later, on December 24, Jumanji: Open World will clash with Shah Rukh Khans highly anticipated flick, King. While theres tremendous excitement among audiences to watch these four diverse films during the holiday season, theres also concern over how screen-sharing will play out. Many expect an intense tussle for screens, especially at single-screen cinemas. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke with Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning & Strategy at PVR INOX Limited and CEO of PVR INOX Pictures Limited, about this aspect. When asked whether he expects screen-sharing problems to arise, he replied, Its a good problem to have! We have a very experienced team who have been doing it for ages. Well handle it. Theres no problem with respect to capacities. In India, we have enough and more capacity to now handle 2 or 3 big releases in the same week. Well handle it easily. Two days from now, on Friday, September 25, Avengers Endgame: Encore will release and is expected to open with a bang. Kamal Gianchandani predicted, The advances are fantastic. Itll smash all re-release records without a doubt. Interestingly, the hype surrounding the re-release of Avengers Endgame: Encore also indicates the enormous anticipation for the next film in the franchise, Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to put up a huge number on its opening day. Kamal Gianchandani agreed, Its a foregone conclusion. If Endgame is having this sort of a response, you can imagine the response that Doomsday will have. Itll be a monstrous December with Doomsday, Dune: Part Three, Jumanji: Open World and King. December is shaping up to be absolutely massive this year. Vir Das has received his third International Emmy nomination, with his latest Netflix stand-up special Vir Das: Fool Volume earning a nomination at the International Emmy Awards. With this recognition, Das becomes the first Indian performer to receive three International Emmy nominations for his work. The nomination adds another milestone to Das international career. His International Emmy journey began in 2021, when his Netflix special Vir Das: For India was nominated in the Comedy category. In 2023, he returned to the nominations with Vir Das: Landing, which went on to win the International Emmy for Comedy. The win also made him the first Indian comedian to receive the honour. With Fool Volume, Das is now a three-time International Emmy nominee, with all three nominations coming for his Netflix comedy specials. The latest recognition also marks another collaboration with Netflix, with Vir Das: Fool Volume being his fifth special for the streaming platform. The special was shot across Mumbai, London and New York. It was shaped by an unexpected setback when Das lost his voice shortly before he was scheduled to shoot the show. He subsequently rewrote the special in silence and performed much of it without rehearsal. The experience became central to the themes explored in the special, including silence, happiness, foolishness and finding ones voice. Speaking about the nomination, Vir Das said, Theres something wonderfully strange about being nominated for an International Emmy for a show called Fool Volume. This special came from a period when I literally lost my voice, so to see something that began in silence travel this far is pretty surreal. For India was the first time I understood that our comedy could find a home on a global stage, Landing gave me an Emmy, and now Fool Volume has brought me back into that conversation. Im incredibly grateful to Netflix, my team and everyone who helped make this very strange, very personal show. Three nominations is something I never imagined when we made the first one, so Im just going to enjoy the fact that the fool keeps getting louder. The latest nomination adds to Das record of recognition at the International Emmys and continues the global journey of his stand-up work. With all three of his nominations coming for Netflix specials, Fool Volume marks another chapter in his association with the streaming platform. Apart from her ambition, Shehnaaz also spoke about the kind of roles she wants to explore at this stage of her career. Rather than limiting herself to a particular genre or character type, the actress says she wants to experiment and take up parts that leave an impact, regardless of their screen time. She went on to say, Im still very, very fresh. I feel I should try everything. I dont have any particular preference. I want to do impactful roles in life. So whatever comes my way, Ill listen to it. And if I understand that, yes, my character is taking the story forward That the story will make people remember that I played this character, even if it was only for two minutes - I want to do that. Shehnaaz concluded, I think its still the beginning. So every character is welcome. Today, the trailer of Udta Teer was launched in the presence of Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, producers Guneet Monga Kapoor, Achin Jain and Apoorva Mehta and director Aakash Kaushik, and they spoke highly of Mukul Dev. Interestingly, the trailer prominently shows the talented actor, and it was quite appreciated. Ayushmann Khurrana said, Mukul Dev was one of the brightest, most brilliant talents in our country. There was a film named Omerta (2018). It was his brainchild. We sadly underutilized him. In Udta Teer, you'll see him for the last time. This is like a swan song; it's a tribute to Mukul Dev! Phoolan | Director Richie Mehta, actor Sneha Kumari, and Shilangi Mukherji, Director & Head, Amazon Prime Video SVOD business, India, in conversation with Meenakshi Shedde at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026 International Emmy-winning filmmaker Richie Mehta, known for the popular series Delhi Crime and Poacher, returns with Phoolan, a Hindi-language historical crime drama that premiered in the Special Presentations programme at the 51st TIFF. Rather than a conventional biopic, the film focuses on a tense 48-hour siege in the life of Phoolan Devi, the dacoit-turned-politician. Based on Devis autobiography, I, Phoolan: The Autobiography of Indias Bandit Queen, it explores the circumstances that shaped her transformation from an impoverished teenager into a figure of resistance and notoriety. Sneha Kumari makes her screen debut as Phoolan. The film will stream on Amazon Prime Video. Meenakshi Shedde, is the senior programme advisor, South Asia, at TIFF.
Actor Randeep Hooda made his National Award win an even more personal milestone. The actor received Best Debut Film of a Director for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. Actor Swaroopa Ghosh has opened up about her experience of working with Manoj Bajpayee in Last Man In Tower, describing the collaboration as a deeply rewarding experience. She praised the actor for his ability to create a comfortable working environment while also bringing a rare intensity and spontaneity to his performances. Sharing her experience working with Manoj, Ghosh said, It was a great honour to work with him. He's funny, he's very inspiring, and there are no starry airs about him. I could just be myself and do whatever I felt was right for the character, and he would respond accordingly. I believe that is quite rare in this industry. Everyone I have worked with has been kind to me, but with Manoj it was different. We were absolutely in sync, and that gave me a lot of confidence. He brings out emotions without saying anything, with just a look and his body language. She recalled a sequence where he calls out to the birds in the sky. They took multiple takes, and every single take was brilliant. It was not a regular line, and I was just mesmerised. For Ghosh, the experience appears to have stood out not just because of Bajpayee's craft, but also because of the ease and trust he brought to their scenes. Her comments highlight how an actor's ability to respond organically to a co-star can create a strong sense of collaboration on set. She also pointed to Bajpayee's ability to communicate emotions without relying heavily on dialogue. His use of expressions, looks and body language left a lasting impression on her, particularly during the sequence involving the birds. Last Man In Tower brings together Manoj Bajpayee, Divya Dutta and Boman Irani in a story that explores human relationships and conflicts. For Ghosh, working alongside Bajpayee became an opportunity to experience first-hand the spontaneity and emotional depth he brings to a performance.
