Barkha Singh recalls getting threats over her Diwali wish: People made that a communal issue
Barkha Singh has spoken about the darker side of being a public figure, recalling an incident when she faced threats on social media after a Diwali message was allegedly misunderstood. The actress, who has established herself across OTT projects and Bollywood, opened up about online trolling, criticism and the pressure celebrities face while expressing their views publicly. Speaking about the backlash surrounding Kriti Sanons Raksha Bandhan advertisement and the way celebrity statements can be interpreted on social media, Barkha told Mid-Day that even a seemingly simple comment can sometimes lead to controversy. She shared an incident involving her own Diwali greeting, which she said was turned into a communal issue despite her intention being related to animal welfare. She recalled, I really love animals, and I am very vocal about animal welfare, animal protection, and raising funds for some NGOs. So once, I remember during Diwali, I was wishing everyone online, and I just said, 'Avoid bursting crackers near animals.' I have gotten threats for that because people made that a communal issue. According to Barkha, some users questioned why she was asking people not to burst crackers. She recalls people questioning her, Why are you only stopping people from bursting crackers? She explained that the focus of her message was on protecting animals during the festival. She added, The words 'near animals' got ignored completely. There are so many dogs who get harmed during Diwali because of crackers, so don't burst crackers near them. That was my point. Barkha admitted that the experience made her more cautious about what she says publicly, although she believes trolling has become difficult to avoid for anyone in the public eye. So something as simple as that, you get trolled. Hence, I am very careful about what I say, but then beyond the point, it's normally not a good thing. You can get trolled for anything, Barkha added. She also acknowledged that criticism is part of being a public figure. And the day you decide that you want to be a public figure and you decide to put yourself out there, this is one part of the process that you should also include yourself in. This comes with the job. Meanwhile, Barkha has recently explored a different side of entertainment with We Got You, Girl, where she makes her hosting and reality show debut. However, despite being approached several times for reality shows, she does not see herself participating in formats centred on conflict. I don't think it's my cup of tea. I really enjoy acting. And I'm sure I've been blessed with some great opportunities, she said. She added, Unless it's a feel-good reality show like this (We Got You, Girl) and if it's a fit, yeah. But if it's just for entertainment and fights, maybe not. I'll do that as an actor. Asked if she has received offers, Barkha said, Yeah, obviously, A bunch of times. Almost every year, every cycle. But it's always a very, very polite decline that it's not my cup of tea. Also Read : Polka Dots are officially back! Trupti Khamkar has taken on a variety of roles across Bollywood and the Marathi film industry, earning attention for her versatility. After appearing in films such as Tumhari Sulu and Crew, the actress is now set to explore a more serious side of her acting with Meghna Gulzars upcoming film Daayra. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithvi Sukumaran headline the project, while Trupti will be seen playing the important character of Jyoti Nayyar. Speaking about what drew her to the role, Trupti revealed that Jyoti Nayyar was the first aspect of the project that caught her attention. The opportunity to collaborate with director Meghna Gulzar was another major reason she wanted to be part of the film. In an exclusive quote given to Bollywood Hungama she said, The first thing that caught my attention was the character, Jyoti Nayyar. It is a Meghna Gulzar film, and it is a dream for every actor to work with a stellar director who has such clarity. There was no doubt about doing it. Secondly, I think you have never seen Trupti play something so serious. I've been waiting for it for the last 28 years, since I played Gandhari in the play Andha Yug 2001. After that, this is probably the first time I am playing a character like this. The actress also revealed that the films action sequence involving her character was another major attraction. Given her background in physical activities and martial arts, Trupti felt the sequence gave her an opportunity to explore a side of her performance skills that she had been eager to showcase. She said, The action scene really caught my attention because Im a brown belt in karate. Ive also practised kalarippayattu, do rope mallakhamb and have trained for marathons. Ive always considered myself a physical actor and wanted to do something action-oriented. The moment I heard about it, I thought, I have to do this. For Trupti, Jyoti Nayyar represents more than just another role. She considers the character an opportunity to showcase a side of herself that audiences have rarely seen. She stated, Sometimes you wait and pray for years for a character you truly want to play. Jyoti Nayyar is that character for me. Ive patiently waited for a role like this because I feel it brings out a side of me that people havent seen before. I believe this is one of my strengths as an actor, and thats what really drew me to the character. Vijay Varma set to explore his dancing side in Antony: Report
Vijay Varma is set to explore another side of his performance skills with his upcoming action thriller Antony. According to reports, the actor will be seen performing a dance track in the film, adding another dimension to his antagonist. Known for taking on varied roles across films and streaming projects, Vijay has often experimented with different characters. In Antony, he will share the screen with veteran action star Sunny Deol, with the film expected to feature a faceoff between the two actors. The reported dance sequence is said to play an important role in Vijays character arc. Rather than being included only as a standalone performance, the sequence is reportedly designed to reveal more about his character and his background as the story progresses. The dance track is part of Vijay's act as a circus artiste. Composed by Salim-Sulaiman, it has been designed by National Award-winning choreographer Vijay Ganguly. The track is a slow reveal; by the end of it, the audience will be shown more about Vijay's character, where he is from, and his ill-intentions. The sequence could offer audiences an opportunity to see Vijay in a different performance space. While the actor has previously been seen showcasing his dancing skills, including a moment with Kareena Kapoor Khan in Jaane Jaan, Antony is expected to give him a more prominent dance sequence that is closely connected to his character. The actor is currently associated with several projects across films and streaming platforms. Besides Antony, his upcoming slate includes Family Business with Anil Kapoor, Lust Stories 3, Matka King 2 and a few projects that are yet to be announced. With a mix of different genres and formats in his upcoming lineup, Vijay continues to take on varied roles. His reported dance sequence in Antony could add another element to his performance in the action thriller, which brings him together with Sunny Deol. The approach that Janhvi Kapoor has opted for makeup leans towards a soft and natural aesthetic, with subtle tones and minimal layers taking centre stage. The actor recently offered a glimpse into her makeup routine, revealing the simple steps she follows to create a polished look without making it appear overly done. From the base to the final lip colour, her routine focuses on a small selection of products and understated shades. The look revolves around three key elements concealer, soft pink blush and nude-pink lips. Together, the three create a cohesive makeup palette that can work for everyday outings, casual occasions or moments when the aim is to keep the beauty look understated. Janhvi begins by using concealer as the foundation of her makeup. She applies the product across her face with her fingers, spreading it evenly instead of building multiple layers. This approach keeps the base light while helping create a more even-looking complexion. She then uses the concealer wand under her eyes, adding coverage specifically to the area that may require a little more attention. Blending the product with her fingers allows the base to retain a natural-looking finish rather than appearing heavily layered. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Janhvi Kapoor (@janhvikapoor) Once the base is in place, Janhvi moves on to blush. She chooses a liquid blush in a soft pink shade and applies it directly to her face before blending it out with her fingers. The muted pink adds a rosy flush to the cheeks without overpowering the rest of the makeup. Keeping the colour soft also allows the complexion to remain fresh and understated, while adding some definition to the overall look. For the final step, Janhvi opts for a nude-pink lip colour. The muted shade complements the pink blush while maintaining the soft colour palette used throughout the routine. The finished look demonstrates how a few well-coordinated beauty elements can create an effortlessly polished appearance. By relying on light coverage, soft pink tones and a neutral lip, Janhvi Kapoors routine offers a straightforward take on everyday makeup that feels fresh, subtle and easy to recreate. The drama inside the Bigg Boss 20 house appears to be picking up pace, with rapper Yung DSA and fellow contestant Qazi getting into a heated exchange. The confrontation reportedly began after Qazi mimicked Yung DSA, leading to a reaction from the rapper and eventually requiring other housemates to intervene. During the tense interaction, Qazi was seen imitating Yung DSA, something that did not sit well with the rapper. Reacting to the mimicry, Yung DSA hit back at Qazi and said, Meri acting karne ka try bhi mat kar, nahi ho rahi tere se telkat muh ke. The exchange soon became more intense as both contestants appeared visibly agitated. As the argument escalated, the other housemates stepped in to prevent the situation from going further. They attempted to separate Yung DSA and Qazi and bring the confrontation under control. Yung DSA also spoke about the advice he had received from his parents, making it clear that he did not want to engage further with people he felt were provoking him. The rapper said, my mother and father said not to entertain such people in life. The incident comes at an early stage of Bigg Boss 20, where contestants are still getting accustomed to living together and negotiating different personalities under constant cameras and observation. With disagreements already beginning to emerge, confrontations such as this could become a recurring part of the dynamics inside the house as the season progresses. Yung DSA is a Pune-based rapper known for his song Yeda Yung. His entry into the Bigg Boss 20 house has brought a music-industry personality into the mix, alongside contestants from different backgrounds and fields. As the season continues, it remains to be seen whether the disagreement between Yung DSA and Qazi settles down or develops into a larger conflict inside the house. For now, the confrontation has added another layer to the early tensions of Bigg Boss 20, with the housemates already having to step in when differences between contestants turned heated. Hanuman Ansh actor Chandan Anand says spiritual film changed his outlook
Captain Miller actress Nivedhithaa Sathish gets engaged to Suhaib Mohammed
Hanuman Ansh is on an unstoppable run. The film collected just Rs. 1.07 crores in Week 1 and then dropped to Rs. 50 lakhs in Week 2. Surprisingly, it then earned Rs. 11.09 crores and a whopping Rs. 62.15 crores in its third and fourth week, respectively. Many expected the film to drop in the fifth week. Instead, it has collected Rs. 49.51 crores in the fifth weekend, with the fifth Sunday collections being Rs. 22.73 crores. As of September 6, it has earned Rs. 124.32 crores. We asked trade experts about this unbelievable box office performance of the historic film. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, Look at the jump. It collected Rs. 9 lakhs on day 1 and now has crossed Rs. 100 crore mark. The first week was bad, while the film had a total collapse in the second weekend. I am sure the producers were so disheartened, looking at the second week numbers. They must have thought ki film ka pack-up ho gaya. But then it picked up and how. On Friday, Bollywood Hungama reported that on the day of release, the makers had to resort to a BOGO (Buy One Get One) Ticket offer. Taran Adarsh explained, What option did they have? Now they dont need it as its running on the basis of the content. The audience has become the brand ambassadors and they are carrying it forward. He added, There were hardly any pre-release promotions. The makers are now visiting cinema halls. However, it is purely riding on content. As a child, my mother and I went to see Jai Santoshi Maa (1975). Many people had come with the pooja ki thali and some of them left their shoes outside the auditorium. During the song Main Toh Aarti Utaaru Re, people used to sing along, clap, or fold their hands. For Hanuman Ansh, I saw similar visuals some people were barefoot and standing in devotion. Its a rare phenomenon. Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, revealed when he realized Hanuman Ansh is a sleeper success, I realized in the middle of the second week. Despite low collections, the film was hanging in theatres. The producers were pushing the word of mouth. The third weekend did the trick, after which there has been no looking back. Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal, meanwhile, replied, I realized it in the third week. In the first week, no one cared about the film. In the second week, its trending caught attention. But in the third week, I realized that its going the Mahavatar Narsimha (2025) way. I was also reminded of Jai Santoshi Maa. Lifetime predictions After the fifth weekends collections, trade experts believe it wont be a surprise if Hanuman Ansh collects more in Week 6 than Week 5. Taran Adarsh opined, Yes, theres a possibility. Now its in the hands of the public. Where the public takes it now is up to them. Its a case study. Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, It may collect more next week than this week. Abhi toh bas shuruaat hai. It can go anywhere Rs. 200 crores, Rs. 300 crores and even Rs. 400 crores lifetime cant be ruled out. Now, several schools are planning to take kids to watch the film. Raj Bansal explained, Its difficult to predict for such films. The sky is the limit. Who would have imagined that it would collect Rs. 20 crores plus on the fifth Sunday? Theres a lot of demand and urgency to see the film. I get so many calls requesting for tickets because its shows are sold out in every theatre here. Girish Johar said, It all depends on how it tracks during the weekdays. But anything can happen in todays times. When an Obsession can do such numbers, why not Hanuman Ansh? So why restrict it to Rs. 200 crores? At the same time, why even burden it with such numbers? At the end of the day, its making a huge ROI, making profits for everyone concerned. Its getting the audiences back to the theatres. Thats critical. To conclude Atul Mohan hinted that devotional films are having a dream run at present, Two years ago, Hanuman (2024) also worked. Mahavatar Narsimha was a hit. Laalo (2025) was a sleeper blockbuster. And now, Hanuman Ansh is on a historic run. Girish Johar signed off by saying, Its a beautiful film that rests on emotions. It once again shows that emotion is the critical element the audience wants, be it in any genre action, horror, romance, animation, etc. If the audience connects with that emotion in a film, they dont mind who the actor, director or producer is.
