Delnaaz Irani calls Chumbak a role of a lifetime: This is my second innings at 54
Delnaaz Irani is entering a new phase of her career with Chumbak, her first big OTT show. The actress plays Gulshan Taraporewala in the Netflix comedy series, which features an ensemble cast including Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Amyra Dastur and Anant V. Joshi. For Delnaaz, however, the experience went beyond simply being part of a large cast, with the actress crediting the camaraderie between the actors for making the sets an especially enjoyable place to work. Talking about the casting, Delnaaz said, I think everybody was superb, and the casting was absolutely marvellous. I would give a lot of credit to JD, Aatish and the entire team at Netflix because the casting is so fresh, and when you see each character, you realise that everyone fits into their role perfectly. The actress also recalls working with veteran performers Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani. With actors like Neena ji and Deven, there are obviously no doubts because they are such incredible and experienced performers. I have always looked up to Neena ji, I absolutely love her, and I have admired Deven's work for years as well, so it was a complete pleasure working with both of them, she shared. According to Delnaaz, the chemistry between the different families in Chumbak was one of the highlights of the experience. The entire team of Chumbak was so well in sync with each other, and every family had such a natural chemistry. Whether it was Deven and Neena ji, Sumit Vyas and Manasi Parekh, or Sumeet Raghavan and Sandeepa, every pairing worked beautifully and the scenes just flowed naturally. It never felt like someone was trying too hard to make you laugh. Everyone was genuinely comfortable with each other, which reflected on screen, Delnaaz stated. When asked about the biggest prankster on set, Delnaaz names Arjun Bijlani and also singles out Amyra Dastur for bringing energy to the team. I would say Arjun Bijlani was the biggest prankster on our set. Arjun is an absolute sweetheart, and he and Amyra were definitely the gossip mongers of our set. The moment Arjun and Amyra got together, the entire set would come alive, she mentioned. Delnaaz further describes Amyra as someone who became an important part of the show's atmosphere. As JD mentioned during the trailer launch, Amyra is truly the heart of our team and the heart of the show. She is a person with a heart of gold, but at the same time, she is full of masti and is an absolute prankster. Her vibrant and vivacious personality, along with Arjun's energy, made the atmosphere on set so much fun, and I think that energy also came through beautifully in their scenes, she added. The actress also shares a close equation with Amyra and Anant V. Joshi, who plays her on-screen son. Delnaaz went on, A lot of times with Amyra and Anant, we had such wonderful fun together. There was hardly a dull moment, and I honestly dont remember a single day when there wasnt some masti happening on set. Amyra is always up to something, and of course, Anant is such a versatile actor. I absolutely love that boy. He is a brilliant actor and such a lovely, lovely person. Praising Anant's transformation into his character, she adds, If you watch Anant in the show, you wont even feel that it is Anant Joshi. You will only see him as Freddy Taraporewala because he has completely become the character. The scenes were beautifully written and so much fun to perform. We were just enjoying ourselves and having a great time, she asserted. For Delnaaz, Chumbak also marks an important professional milestone. Chumbak is my first big OTT show, and I really want it to work because this is my second innings at 54, and I genuinely feel this is a role of a lifetime for me. Gulshan is a character that I believe can stay with people for years, said the actress. She hopes Gulshan receives the same kind of affection she earlier experienced for Sweetu. It reminds me of the kind of love I received for Sweetu, and I feel Gulshan too has the potential to be remembered for a long time. If people love the show, I am sure they will also love Gulshan, and as an actor, who doesnt want their character to be loved by the audience? she shared. With Chumbak bringing together several actors with television backgrounds, Delnaaz believes its success could have wider implications for the team. There are so many people who have worked on this show, and a lot of us come from a television background, so getting an opportunity to be on OTT is really special for all of us. I genuinely feel that if Chumbak works, it will be like a jackpot for everyone involved, she maintained. Delnaaz concluded, I really hope this opens more doors for me to do more work on OTT, whether it is films or series, signalling her interest in exploring more opportunities across the streaming space. Kunal Kemmu has spoken about his experience of directing Preity Zinta in Vibe during an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama. For Kemmu, the collaboration was also a new experience as he was directing an actor he had grown up watching on the big screen. Talking about his first interaction with Preity, Kemmu said, I never expected it to be easy. She is someone you grew up watching, loving as an audience. I had never met her in life. So, for me she is a star who I have seen on the big screen and from far away. I have always been Googly-eyed and said, Oh my God, thats Preity Zinta. Now I am going to tell her what to do. So, I was also slightly intimidated to be honest right from the first time I met her. Kemmu also spoke about Preitys personality and how their conversations would sometimes take them away from the work they had initially planned. He said, She is a very fun person, actually. She will talk to you about everything under the sun. And suddenly, you will be like, Why was I here? Oh, I was here to pitch the film. Over time, however, Kemmu and Preity developed an understanding of each others working styles. He added, Over a period of time, we understood each others sensibilities and how to reach out to each other. I really enjoyed this process because this was the other thing that I got to learn on this film where I am working with someone who is not just a senior actor but also someone who has been a star. So, it was my first interaction of directing a star in that sense. For Kemmu, Vibe therefore became an opportunity to learn as a director while working with an actor he had admired for years. The film also brought a different professional equation between the two, with Kemmu also stepping behind the camera and Preity taking on the role of the actor. The actor also discussed how she landed the role in the Mirzapur franchise, working with Ravi Kishan and the age gap between their characters. Sonal revealed that her association with Mirzapur happened unexpectedly. She had initially met director Gurmeet Singh for a different project. During their conversation, he mentioned that the casting for Mirzapur had already been completed, but later told her about a character that was still available. When I met my director, Gurmeet Singh, I did not meet him for Mirzapur. It was for something else. When I signed Mirzapur, I knew that I was entering a male-dominated world. I honestly did not expect that Mumtaz would be received so beautifully, she said. The actor also praised Ravi Kishan, who plays Babban in the film. He is a Member of Parliament. He is a superstar. But when he is on set, all he brings is honesty. And that is what the audience connects with, she said. Addressing the age gap between their characters, Sonal said the makers did not attempt to hide it. We did not try to show anywhere that there is no age gap. It was absolutely clear that there is an age gap. She added that stories associated with gangsters, where older men are involved with younger women, were taken into account while developing Mumtaz and Babban's relationship. Sonal also reflected on the challenges she faced after Jannat. Although the film and her character Zoya remain an important part of her career, she admitted that she was too young and inexperienced to navigate the industry at the time. After I did Jannat, I was immature. I was very young at that time. I did not have anyone to guide me in the film industry. I didn't know how to work here. So, I didn't get a lot of offers or the kind of work that I wanted to do at that time, she recalled. She later explored opportunities in the South Indian film industry. While she feels her journey did not unfold exactly as she had imagined, Sonal said she has no regrets about the decisions she made. Richa Chadha is all set to showcase her non-fiction series Musafiri on YouTube from September 25. The eight-episode show explores the curious and lesser-explored side of Mumbai. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Richa revealed that she had earlier planned to centre the show only around different festivals. I was working on a document for some years, which involved research, she said. India has a lot of festivals that are celebrated by people of more than one community. For example, in Lalbaugcha Raja, the ones playing dhol are from different community. Similarly, there are some Hindu-Sikh festivals and the harvest festival in Kerala as well. Richa continued, Initially, I had decided to do only on festivals. But then I realized that there are a lot of topics to cover here. Like how the British have been preserving their centuries old buildings, we have thousands of years old buildings. But not enough people know about it. So, from that lens I started working on it. I hope people appreciate it. A major point of attraction in Richas series is the Gilbert Hill located in Andheri, Mumbai. She was astonished to know from her researcher that the hill is said to be 65 million years old. Today, that hill is preserved simply because a temple is located on its top. I also knew as I had visited and shot around it. I used to wonder what kind of unusual mountain is this. It is absolutely straight, there is nothing on the sides, it has a temple, there is a net around and it is in the shape of a hexagon. I found it very fascinating. I explored the idea that when hyper-religious sentiment runs in the country, we should also study things that tell us that due to different faiths like Hindu and Islam, what all is still saved today, she said. When asked about the most challenging part of coming up with Musafiri, Richa said, Just finding the time to do it properly. The actress spoke about Kemmus approach to direction as well as the challenge of portraying her character, Madam H. Talking about Kunals working style, Preity said, Kunals vibe changes with the scene. Its a fun vibe but he is a tough taskmaster. He is not like the funny guy you see in the scene. He is very particular about what he wants; he wants it like that. He is very structured, which is also very good as there is no room for confusion. Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer of Dupahiya Season 2, bringing audiences back to Dhadakpur with another round of chaos, crime and comedy. The second season of the Prime Original series picks up from where the first season ended and introduces a fresh set of troubles for Banwari and his family. The series is set to premiere on October 1, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Directed by Sonam Nair, Dupahiya Season 2 is created and produced by Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani under the banner of Bombay Film Cartel LLP. The series has been created and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg. The London screening took place a month after the documentarys New York premiere, which was hosted by Priyanka Chopra. Having known them for several years and connected with their story, the actor attended the premiere to support their journey and the documentarys message of love and humanity. Talking about her association with PK and Lotta and the London screening, Elli said, I have known the family for many years, and we have been trying to meet each other for the longest.
