Govinda recalls suicidal thoughts after entering Narmada River following mothers death: I thought I would meet my mother again

Govinda has opened up about one of the most difficult periods of his life, recalling the intense grief he experienced following the death of his mother, Nirmala Devi, in 1996. In a recent conversation with ANI, the actor revealed that he once entered the Narmada River while believing that he would be able to meet his mother again. Speaking about the period after his mothers demise, Govinda said he was in tremendous emotional pain and felt that his life had come to an end. I was in a lot of pain. I was in tremendous pain. At that point, I felt that everything was over; that was it, he said. Nirmala Devi, a Hindustani classical vocalist and actress, died on June 15, 1996, at the age of 69. Govinda has often spoken about his close relationship with his mother and the influence she had on his life. Recalling what happened at the Narmada River, Govinda said, So, I was at the Narmada River, I thought I would go a little farther into the river and that I would meet my mother again. So, I went into the river. When asked if the incident was an attempt to end his life, Govinda responded, Kind of. I was deeply attached to my mother. I was too much in love with her. He added that he did not view the incident only through the terminology commonly associated with suicide. Thats what the world calls it. People use suicide type of words. We don't really have anything like that. Life never ends. It takes on new faces; It takes on new forms, he said. Govinda recalled that a sadhu, whom he remembers as Ram Kundal, approached him and helped him leave the river. He called out to me and came toward me. I came out of the river and he asked What happened, Govind? he said. The actor said the incident eventually made him reconsider his life and responsibilities. I realised, actually someone said to me this at that time that I was doing something wrong... And I learned a lesson, I realised that I have to live for my children, he said. Govinda said it took him around 10 to 15 days to come out of that state of mind. He eventually realised there was something else in this world that he needed to experience and decided to move forward. The actor also reflected on how his mothers death changed his perspective on films, acting and stardom. Films are just like toys for me. I shouldn't say this; I am saying it out of fear of God. Forgive me if I shouldn't be saying this, and if I am offending anyone... But I believe that films, acting, stardom, heroism, all of it, is a manifestation of God. Whatever we have received, we have received from God, and we are simply acting in it. We have seen all of this, and we were able to experience it. For Govinda, however, fulfilling his mothers dreams remains his biggest achievement. But the real achievement for me was that I could serve my family and my mother. I could fulfil all the wishes she had imagined for me, what she had thought my son Govinda would achieve when he turned 21. That was her dream. And I was able to fulfil it. I saw true heroism in that part of my life. That is a very different way of looking at things, he said. On the work front, Govinda is currently promoting his upcoming film Roopa, which also stars Komal Rani Swarnkar. The film marks his comeback after several years. He was last seen in Rangeela Raja in 2019 and later appeared in the 2022 documentary Naam Tha Kanhaiyalal. Pankaj Tripathi says Mirzapur was a leave me alone watch on OTT: Its now in party mode

Pankaj Tripathi has opened up about the transition of Mirzapur from a popular streaming series to a theatrical film, saying the biggest change will be the way audiences experience the story. Mirzapur: The Film is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 4, 2026, bringing several familiar characters back to the big screen. Ahead of the films trailer launch, Tripathi, who plays the iconic character Kaleen Bhaiya, spoke about how the theatrical format will offer something different from the shows OTT experience. The new thing about the film and you actually touched upon this in your question is the scale. On OTT, you watch on screens ranging from 5 to 100 inches, but now youll be watching on a 25-to-28-foot screen. So, the major shift is that you get to see it on the big screen and experience it communally. Until now, watching on OTT was a solitary, private affair; now, youll be watching it with an audience, he said. Tripathi believes watching Mirzapur collectively in theatres will alter the impact of the franchise. Whenever a performance or art form is experienced communally, the impact changes entirely. Enjoying it in a group creates a unique, shared experience. So, while Mirzapur used to be a leave me alone kind of watch, its now in party mode. The world is the same, the characters are the same, but the story is new, and the experience is much grander, he added. The actor also revealed that he recently worked on the films dubbing and was impressed by what he saw. I was doing some dubbing work yesterday and really enjoyed what I saw. I even wondered, Is it just because Im part of the film that Im enjoying it so much? he said, adding that his excitement increased after seeing the footage. Directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, Mirzapur: The Movie is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment. The film stars Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu, among others, and will release in Hindi and Telugu. Zoya Akhtars Turtle Walker to release on Animal Planet as part of India: Epic Wild Stories documentary anthology

Tiger Baby, Emaho Films and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios documentary Turtle Walker, directed by Taira Malaney, is set to feature on Animal Planet as part of its documentary anthology India: Epic Wild Stories. The anthology, launched in July, brings together films focusing on Indias wildlife, biodiversity and conservation efforts. Turtle Walker follows the life and conservation work of Indian sea turtle expert Satish Bhaskar, whose research and efforts towards studying and protecting sea turtles have contributed to marine conservation in India. The documentary is produced by Tiger Baby, Emaho Films and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, with Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Reed among its executive producers. Tiger Baby founders Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti have also spoken about the documentarys journey and its upcoming release on Animal Planet. Zoya Akhtar says, Satish Bhaskars is one of those extraordinary stories that deserves to be told widely. Animal Planet has long been a home for stories about our natural world, and we are so glad Turtle Walker has found a place in India: Epic Wild Stories. Reema Kagti adds, What stays with you about Satishs journey is how much one person can do simply by caring deeply and refusing to give up. After seeing his story connect with audiences around the world, it feels special to now have it reach a wider audience back home through Animal Planet. Director Taira Malaney also expressed her thoughts on the documentary becoming part of the anthology. She said, Im incredibly happy that Turtle Walker is part of India: Epic Wild Stories. While Satishs story is full of wonder, adventure and discovery, it has shown me that meaningful change doesnt always begin with grand gestures. Sometimes, it starts with one person who cares deeply and simply does not give up. We have been overwhelmed by the response to the film thus far, and I cannot wait for audiences across India to see it. The documentary began as an independent production with a small crew based in Goa and developed over eight years into an international co-production involving partners from India and overseas. Turtle Walker had its world premiere at DOC NYC in New York, where both screenings were sold out. It has since been screened at more than 75 film festivals worldwide and received over 20 awards, including the Grand Teton Award and Conservation Award at the 2024 Jackson Wild Media Awards. Since January 2026, the film has also been part of a screening tour across India. It has been screened at platforms and events including Kala Ghoda, the Kochi Biennale, Mumbai Climate Week and the Goa Open Arts Festival, among others. With India: Epic Wild Stories, Animal Planet is bringing together documentaries centred on Indian wildlife, conservation and the communities and individuals working in these spaces. Turtle Walker will be part of the anthology alongside other films exploring Indias ecosystems and the relationship between wildlife and local communities. The release date for Turtle Walker on Animal Planet will be announced soon. Sanjay Kapoor reveals Sirf Tum success brought him no film offers: Nobody signed me

Sanjay Kapoor has opened up about the unexpected impact of the success of his 1999 romantic film Sirf Tum. Despite the film receiving a strong response at the box office and remaining popular decades later, the actor revealed that its success did not translate into a steady flow of film offers for him. Speaking to Digital Commentary, Sanjay recalled how surprising the situation was after the film became a hit. He said, Sirf Tum was such a huge hit that today, even after 27 years, we are talking about it. But look at my destiny, I didnt sign a single film after Sirf Tum. The actor said he was particularly puzzled by the industry's reaction. According to him, while audiences and people praised the film, producers did not approach him with substantial projects. People praised that film so much, but I dont know what went wrong that nobody ever approached me after that. Nobody signed me. I didnt receive any good offers, he said. Sanjay also clarified that he was not rejecting a series of major projects because of the success. Instead, he said the offers coming his way were limited and did not meet his expectations. I wont lie that I was loaded with projects and I declined. I had limited offers, but they were not very great. I thought, I have given a hit, let me wait for something better, he added. Comparing the situation with the industry today, Sanjay observed that actors can benefit significantly after delivering a few successful films. Today, if people give three hits, their career is set for 25 years. They bag several ads. They start earning in crores just after one big hit, he said. Sanjay also defended Sirf Tum against the perception that its success was driven only by its popular music. He credited the film's unusual storyline, pointing out that the lead characters do not meet until the end. Apart from having superhit songs, the script of Sirf Tum was unbelievable, he said. The actor also recalled another major success, Raja (1995), which followed his unsuccessful debut Prem. Despite achieving two significant box-office successes, Sanjay said he struggled to establish himself as a consistent leading man in Bollywood. EXCLUSIVE: Taapsee Pannu on her motivation for staying fit, I want to be able to eat the food I love

Taapsee Pannu has often spoken about the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle while also enjoying the food she loves. For the actress, fitness is not about following a strict routine every single day, but about finding different forms of physical activity that keep her motivated and allow her to maintain a balance. Speaking about her approach to food and exercise, Taapsee exclusively said, I love eating food. One thing I have discovered is that if you want to enjoy the food you love without worrying too much about how many calories it has and how much weight you can gain after eating it, you should not skip your workouts. Rather than relying only on traditional gym sessions, she incorporates different activities into her routine to ensure that fitness does not become monotonous. Taapsee revealed that sports are an important part of her fitness regime, with squash being one of her preferred activities. She also combines it with gym workouts and aerial yoga, which provides a different form of physical exercise. I play sports at least twice a week, especially squash, the actor added. Of course, I also go to the gym and I also practice aerial yoga. For those who may not know, aerial yoga is performed using a fabric hammock suspended from the ceiling. These are the two or three ways I keep myself fit because going to the gym every day can get boring after a while. My biggest motivation for staying fit is simple - I want to be able to eat the food I love. Taapsees fitness philosophy is therefore centred on consistency, variety and balance. By combining sports, gym sessions and aerial yoga, she finds ways to remain active without allowing her workout routine to become repetitive. Abishek S. Vyas on using AI in filmmaking, If AI is used to replace emotions in a film, it will take away the charm

AI is everywhere right now. In boardrooms, in post-production suites, in the way scripts are being developed and films are being marketed. And the entertainment industry, like every other, is trying to figure out what it means. Abishek S. Vyas has an answer. He's not dismissing the technology. But he knows where it ends. For him, AI is a workflow tool. It can speed things up, clean up processes, take the friction out of production. Technology will continue to reshape how we make films, but it can't replace the emotional truth that comes from human experiences, he said. Audiences remember stories because they connect with them emotionally, not because they were created faster. He also added, AI cant replace the emotional intelligence of writers. AI can be used as an enhancing tool as far as production is considered. But if AI is used to replace emotions in the film, that will take away the charm. And that part of storytelling is what Abishek Vyas is intent on protecting. He explains that he is not resistant to change. He's simply watching the technology closely and thinking about how it fits into the way he works. But there's a part of filmmaking that no tool gets to touch. The empathy. The specificity of a human moment. The thing that makes someone watch a scene and feel like it was made for them, that the story was lived in. That doesn't come from a model trained on data. It comes from a person who's lived something, felt something, and found a way to put it on screen.

Huma Qureshi juggles Toxic promotions with Maharani Season 5 shoot, emerges as OTTs highest-paid actor

Huma Qureshi seems to be having a particularly packed phase at the moment. While the actor is currently in the thick of promotions for Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, which recently unveiled its much-awaited trailer, she has quietly begun shooting for the fifth season of Maharani. What makes this interesting is that Huma is juggling two very different worlds simultaneously. In Toxic, she plays Elizabeth, a fierce, unapologetic and enigmatic character who has already caught attention in the trailer. In Maharani 5, she returns as Rani Bharti, the character that has become one of the most defining roles of her career. And there is another detail that makes the fifth season significant for Huma. With Maharani now entering its fifth season, Huma is said to have emerged as the highest-paid actor on OTT, with her remuneration for the series reflecting both the success of the franchise and the stature she has built through it. The timing is particularly notable. While Huma has been travelling for Toxic promotions and participating in the films trailer launch and media interactions, she has also been making time for the Maharani shoot. It is a rather unusual balancing act moving from Geetu Mohandas dark, period gangster world in Toxic to the political universe of Rani Bharti, with barely a pause between the two. For Huma, the contrast is also representative of the choices she has made through her career. From leading one of Indias most successful female-led streaming franchises to taking on a character as unpredictable as Elizabeth in Toxic, the actor has consistently gravitated towards parts that allow her to operate outside the conventional mould. With Maharani Season 5 now underway and Toxic heading into its final promotional stretch, Huma is quietly balancing two major projects, while also marking a significant new milestone in her OTT journey. Shweta Tripathi opens up on Mirzapur: The Movies bigger screen experience; says, Music plays a huge role in exploring emotions

As anticipation grows around Mirzapur: The Movie, actor Shweta Tripathi has opened up about the franchises transition from the streaming series to the big screen. Known for its intense storytelling, memorable characters, sharp dialogues and power struggles, the Mirzapur universe is now set to explore a larger cinematic format, with music expected to play a more significant role in the narrative. Shweta Tripathi, who has been associated with the franchise since its beginning, spoke about the musical direction of the upcoming film and how the expansion of the Mirzapur world could offer audiences a different experience. According to the actor, the move to cinema provides an opportunity to explore emotions on a much larger scale, while music can become an important storytelling tool. Sharing her thoughts, Shweta Tripathi said, One of the most exciting things about Mirzapur becoming a film is that cinema gives you the opportunity to explore emotions in a much larger and more immersive way, and music plays a huge role in that. While the series has always had a fantastic background score that heightened every emotion and every twist, a feature film allows music to become an integral part of the storytelling itself. Songs have the power to express emotions that sometimes words cannot, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how music adds another dimension to the world of Mirzapur. I think audiences are going to experience the characters they love in a completely new way. The actor also highlighted the combination of returning cast members and new additions to the film. She said the familiar faces would bring back the emotional connection viewers have developed with the franchise, while new actors could introduce an element of unpredictability. She further added, What makes this film even more special is that it brings together the soul of the original Mirzapur with exciting new possibilities. Seeing so many familiar faces return instantly brings back the emotional connection audiences have built over the years, while the addition of new actors adds fresh energy and unpredictability to the story. That's what has always made Mirzapur so compelling - it constantly evolves without losing its core identity. I genuinely believe this film will surprise audiences because it isn't simply a continuation of the series; it's a much grander cinematic experience. As someone who has been part of this journey from the beginning, it's incredibly fulfilling to watch the franchise grow in such an ambitious way. I can't wait for fans to witness this new chapter on the big screen because I truly feel they're in for something bigger, richer and emotionally more layered than ever before. With action, drama, power struggles and its established characters at its core, Mirzapur: The Movieis set to expand the franchise into a theatrical format. The return of familiar faces, introduction of new characters and greater focus on music are expected to give the story a new cinematic dimension.
