Thirty years after Diljale released, Harman Baweja has revisited memories from the films sets, recalling an early experience that shaped his understanding of filmmaking. The actor, producer and writer was 15 when he visited the sets of the film, directed by his father and filmmaker Harry Baweja, and found himself trying to understand what exactly a director does while every department on a film set appeared to have a defined role. Harman remembers watching the shoot of Shaam Hai Dhuan Dhuan, with Saroj Khan choreographing the song, Veeru Devgan handling the action and Naidu working on the camera. Observing the different departments at work, he eventually asked his father about his role as a director. I remember sitting and having lunch and then looking at my father and saying, I'm very confused, what do you do on set? Everybody on that lunch table laughed. I was like, Veeruji is doing the action, Sarojji is doing the choreography, Naidu uncle is doing the camera work. All the actors are doing their job. So, I was like, what are you doing as a director? Because everybody's doing their job, Harman recalled. According to Harman, Harry Bawejas response became an early lesson in how different departments come together to serve a films overall vision. He just looked at me and said, You're absolutely right. He told me the job of a director is to effectively tell and narrate a story in the audiovisual medium. These HODs, these technicians, these crews they're a plethora of talent, but eventually they all have to fall into the vision of what the director wants to say, Harman said. Another memory from the same shoot involved Shaam Hai Dhuan Dhuan. Harman recalls that after the song was initially recorded, both Harry Baweja and composer Anu Malik were not completely convinced with the result. The song was subsequently revisited before the team decided to go ahead with it. For Harman, the experience became an early example of trusting creative instinct and revisiting a piece of work when it did not feel right initially. Today, I feel so blessed that I had the chance to witness my father and all these great actors, technicians and choreographers doing their magic. Being around them at that age and seeing how a film comes together has definitely helped me become a better filmmaker. I carry those learnings with me as I continue to build my own journey and carry forward my father's legacy, he added. Three decades later, Harman has expanded his work across acting, production and writing. Following his acting comeback with Scoop, he took on a larger role at Baweja Studios as Managing Director and producer. He has also co-written and produced projects including Mrs. and System. His current slate includes Haq, Kaptaan, Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas, Dil Ka Darwaja and Jugaddu, while Captain India is currently on floors. For Harman, looking back at Diljale brings him back to an early set experience that introduced him to the collaborative nature of filmmaking. Directed by debut filmmaker Sailesh Rathnakumar, Selvi follows Selvi, played by Patil, a migrant home-care nurse working in the homes of wealthy families. Her job involves demanding shifts that can last anywhere between 12 and 72 hours, leaving her with little time for rest, independence or a life outside work. The film begins as a story centred on migration, female friendship and the realities of caregiving. However, the narrative gradually takes a darker turn when details of an incident from Selvis past begin to emerge. The story then moves into the space of a psychological thriller, exploring themes of memory, survival and the lengths a person may go to protect the life they have built. The newly unveiled poster originated from an idea by Anushka Madhavan, which was further developed by Sailesh and given its final treatment by Shree Teertha. Through its imagery, movement and layered visual elements, the poster seeks to offer a glimpse into Selvis inner world. Anjali Patil, who also serves as the films producer, spoke about the significance of the project and its upcoming premiere at Busan. She said, Selvi is a very personal film for me, and as a producer and actor, this journey has meant a lot. The film looks at migration, caregiving, labour, dignity and survival through an Indian experience, but these are conversations that go beyond borders. The actors, who are part of Lust Stories 3, spoke about the risks involved in filming such scenes and how they deal with the possibility of footage being shared without their control. Their comments come after Radhika Apte recently recalled feeling scared when nude scenes from her 2016 film Parched were leaked online. The incident brought attention once again to the challenges actors can face when intimate footage from films reaches platforms and websites beyond the intended release. Chef and entertainer Ranveer Brars new YouTube show, Yess Chef!, has crossed 700,000 views within 24 hours of the first episode being released. The show combines food trivia, quick-fire questions, competition and celebrity banter, bringing food knowledge into an entertainment format. The concept of Yess Chef! revolves around testing how much celebrities know about food, from ingredients and dishes to their stories, history and lesser-known facts. The show aims to make food knowledge more engaging while giving participants a chance to compete and showcase what they know. Explaining the idea behind the show, Ranveer Brar says, We brag about our cricket knowledge. We flex our Bollywood knowledge. So why not food? Theres so much about our food, its stories, ingredients, history and quirks, that we should know and be proud of knowing. With Yess Chef!, the idea is to make food knowledge cool, to give it that same bragging value. I want people to be able to flex their food knowledge. The Yash Chopra Foundation (YCF), the philanthropic arm of Yash Raj Films, has expanded its Scholarship Program this year, selecting 11 students, including the first-ever scholars pursuing Robotics and technology-led courses. The Foundation continues to take forward the vision of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra by giving back to the industry that has given abundant love to YRF for over 50 years. Through the YCF Scholarship Program, the Foundation supports the children of registered Hindi film industry and FWICE union members in pursuing higher education, offering financial assistance of up to Rs. 5 lakhs per student. While the program has traditionally backed students in media, film and creative disciplines, this year it extends to a wider range of professional and technical courses, including Robotics & Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, IT, Management, Law and Medical studies. The move reflects the evolving landscape of the film and creative industries and the growing role of technology in shaping its future. The 11 students were chosen after a merit- and need-based screening process from over 300 registered applicants. They will receive financial assistance towards their course fees for the 2026-27 academic year. The climax of Drishyam The Conclusion has been one of the key talking points around the upcoming film, with the makers positioning it as the final chapter of the Drishyam franchise. As Vijay Salgaonkar aka Ajay Devgn returns for what is expected to be the concluding chapter of his story, director Abhishek Pathak has opened up about the process of developing and protecting the films climax from fan speculation. In an interview, Pathak revealed that he went through several theories shared online by fans while working on the conclusion. He explained that the team was conscious of avoiding ideas that had already been widely discussed. I actually went through a lot of fan theories on Reddit and the Internet. We were like, Four people are talking about this, five people are talking about that... so it cannot happen. We were trying to stay away from the obvious, and come with something that people weren't expecting at all. The director also discussed how the team approached the final stages of the shoot and edit to retain certain information. According to Pathak, even after the film had reached the editing stage, some portions were still pending to be filmed. He explained that the team used voice-overs and additional editing during this process to control how certain details were presented to audiences. We shot the film, came on the edit, and there was maybe a 10-day shoot pending. In the pending shoot, we actually recorded voice-overs and put everything on the edit to make it better... to hide information and reveal certain things in a way that people enjoy it much better, he shared. Pathak further hinted at the importance of the climax without revealing details about what audiences can expect. He added, The climax is the real (star of the) show, If the big reveal can be held for as long as possible, that's the best thing. Drishyam The Conclusion brings back the franchises central character, Vijay Salgaonkar, while introducing new developments in his ongoing battle with the authorities. The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony was held last week, on September 22, and among the proud attendees was Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani. Her production house, Chalk N Cheese Films, produced Srikanth (2024) with T-Series, and the Rajkummar Rao-starrer went on to win the Best Hindi Feature Film award. Understandably, Nidhi is on cloud nine. Chalk N Cheese Films has carved a distinct niche for itself. All three of its films so far Saand Ki Aankh (2019), Srikanth and the Marathi film Ata Thambaycha Naay (2025) have been inspired by remarkable real-life stories and presented in a mainstream, entertaining manner. Saand Ki Aankh and Srikanth, incidentally, were directed by Tushar Hiranandani, who is also Nidhi Parmar Hiranandanis husband. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, conducted just before her birthday, the enterprising producer opened up about Srikanths National Award win, her journey into films, her working equation with Tushar, her fascination with Karan Johar and a lot more. Where were you when you learned that Srikanth won the National Award? We were in Goa at my cousins place to celebrate Tushars birthday. I was sitting by the pool with a friend while he was sleeping inside. Suddenly, he came running out and said, Nidhi, we won the National Award. I thought he was dreaming! I told him, You must have dreamt about it. Go back to sleep. He replied, No, really, I just got a call from someone. We were staying in a remote area and neither of us had network on our phones. However, my friend did. She switched on the live stream of the announcement and thats when we saw that Srikanth had indeed won the National Award. It took us a minute to believe it. Soon, we were flooded with congratulatory calls. With Srikanth, an important point has been proven, or rather, disproven, that you need to lobby to win an award. We didnt do anything of that sort. The National Award jury did its job. They saw the film, liked it and awarded us. Even now, people ask us, How did you guys win? or Did you know so-and-so? When we went for the ceremony, we got a chance to meet people from different film industries across the country. Several of them told us that Srikanth deserved the National Award. Two encounters particularly stood out. Aanand L Rais wife told Tushar that the film really deserved to win. Shashwat Sachdevs father hugged Tushar and said that Srikanth was one of his favourite films. That felt really nice. How did the real Srikanth Bolla react to the National Award honour? He has been expecting this award from the very beginning (laughs). Ever since the day we narrated the final script to him, he kept saying, Our film will win the National Award. During the promotions, we literally had to tell him, Please dont say such things! He also dreamt of an Oscar. And he wasnt too far off, because Srikanth was among the films considered to be Indias official entry to the Oscars. It even made it to the top five! So, when we won the National Award, he was his usual nonchalant self. He simply said, I told you we would win! Often, films enjoy strong word of mouth but still struggle to find an audience because of the sheer number of releases. Srikanth, however, arrived at a time when there was hardly any major competition for almost three weeks. Do you think that worked in the films favour? The film had been ready for a while and we were looking for the right release window. The date shifted two or three times. Rajkummar Raos Mr & Mrs Mahi (2024) was also being planned for release around the same time, but it eventually arrived three weeks after our film. May 10, 2024, looked like a great date to us. We met Bhushan Kumar ji and requested him to release the film on May 10 because we felt it was an ideal window. He agreed, and thats how we announced the date. And yes, it turned out to be a dream release for us. What changes for you from here on? I feel we must have done something right to win the National Award, and wed like to continue on that path. At the same time, as makers, we want to evolve. We do want to explore more commercial cinema, but content will always come first for us. Even if we make something more commercial, it still has to have a strong story at its core. After Srikanth, we made Ata Thambaycha Naay, which was a small Marathi film. Its been a year since that film and two years since Srikanth, but its not as if we havent received offers or come across subjects to make. We did try going down the route of putting together a more commercial package, but we realised thats not really how we function. We need to connect with the script. So, even when we do make a commercial film, it will have to be something that genuinely speaks to us. How challenging was it to make Srikanth within a certain budget? I feel I was a very lucky producer because Tushar was the director. I would give him 100 out of 100. Hes a dream director for any producer because hes extremely mindful of the budget. Hes also a master at making a film mounted on a modest budget look beautiful. His DOP is very important to him, so he takes his time finalising the cinematographer. Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti shot Saand Ki Aankh, while Srikanth was shot by Pratham Mehta. Pratham gave it his absolute best as well, and full marks to him. Then, I went to watch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) with my mother and I went mad over the person who had made the movie (Karan Johar)! I didnt go crazy over Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol or Rani Mukerji. Instead, I kept wondering, Who is this person who has created this world? Thats when I started trying to understand what a director actually does. In the process, I became obsessed with KJo. He opened my mind to a medium that I had never taken seriously before. It completely changed my world, and that was the day I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in cinema. I left everything and came to Mumbai. I did a course at XIC (Xavier Institute of Communications) and started working. Later, I even got the opportunity to work at Karans company, Dharma Productions! So, in a way, he is the reason I came to Mumbai from Chandigarh. Are you still in touch with him? Of course. Karan will always have the warmest place in my heart (smiles). Digital Desk | Nishio, Sep 28 (IANS) Indian boxer Kapil Pokhariya registered a thumping 5-0 win over South Korea's Kim Gichae in the men's 90kg quarterfinal at the Nishio Gymnasium here on Monday. Kapil was the far superior boxer in the bout, winning all five judges' votes, with four giving him a 30-27 ruling and one a 30-26 card. Kapil's dominance secured India's sixth boxing medal at the ongoing game. The Indian pugilist clinched the first round 5-0 with his fierce punches landing on target. Kapil kept bossing the second round too with his hits and also inflicted a standing count against Kim to take it 5-0. Kapil made some clever and occasional hits in the third round, knowing that he had done enough in the previous two rounds to win the bout and move into the semis. He will now face 2025 World Championships gold medallist Turabek Khabibullaev in the semifinal. India have had a fruitful campaign so far in boxing at the Asiad. All three boxers in action today won their respective bouts, with Priya Ghanghas and Lovlina Borgohain winning their respective bouts. Digital Desk | Nagoya, Sep 28 (IANS) The Indian men's and women's squash teams marched into the quarterfinals of the Asian Games after contrasting victories on Monday, with the women producing a hard-fought 2-1 win over Japan and the defending champion men's team completing a clean sweep against South Korea. The women's team, seeded third and bronze medallists at the previous Asian Games, had to dig deep after world No. 6 Satomi Watanabe defeated India's Anahat Singh in a five-game battle. The experienced Joshna Chinappa, who is making his seventh appearance at the Asian Games, put India in the lead by defeating Erisa Sano 11-1, 11-8, 11-9. Anahat then played against Watanabe, someone she had beaten in the individual semifinals earlier in the competition, and subsequently won a historic silver medal. This time Watanabe turned the situation around, coming back from a 12 disadvantage to win against Anahat 118, 811, 711, 118 and 119 in a match that lasted 43 minutes and thus level the series. In the deciding match against Akari Midorikawa, Tanvi Khanna managed to build up the courage and won 12-10, 11-9, 4-11, 12-10, thus securing India's spot in the last eight. India had earlier started their campaign with the women's team by beating China 3-0 in their first Pool game. At the same time, the men's team carried on with their period of dominance by beating South Korea 3-0, thus finishing first in their group and moving on to the quarterfinals. Velavan Senthilkumar started off with a win against Na Jooyoung, scoring 11-6, 11-4 and 11-7, while Abhay Singh, who had won a silver medal in the singles event, extended India's lead by defeating Ryu Jeongmin 11-4, 11-7 and 11-1. Veer Chotrani achieved a clean sweep, winning against Oh Seojin 11-6, 11-4 and 11-2. Earlier in the day, the Indian men's team also beat China 3-0, with Suraj Chand, Chotrani and Senthilkumar each securing wins in the individual events. Chand won against Du Shaoqian 11-4, 11-3 and 12-10, while Chotrani defeated U Haizhen 11-5, 11-5 and 11-3. Senthilkumar then concluded the match with a victory over Zhou Penglin by scoring 11-3, 11-2 and 11-4. The women's team had also played against China, winning 2-1 after overcoming a tough challenge. However, Sameena Riaz lost the match when she was behind in two games, the score being 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 9-11, 12-14. Tanvi regained parity by winning against Zhang Yuning 11-3, 11-5, 11-5, and Chinappa then finished off the comeback with a victory over Liu Ziyi with scores of 12-10, 11-4, 11-6. At the last Asian Games in Hangzhou the Indian men's team won the gold medal and the women's team obtained bronze. The two teams will now aim to progress further in the knockout rounds in Aichi-Nagoya.
