Sunshine Pictures, led by filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah, has announced its next digital project, Bada Jurm Choti Kahani, in association with Sanjay Upadhyay, Head of Digital Vertical. The announcement follows the response to the production houses show Ankahee, which has crossed over 5 lakh views on YouTube. Bada Jurm Choti Kahani marks the next step in Sunshine Pictures digital journey. The production house has used artificial intelligence as a creative tool in the making of the show, with the makers stating that character development, storytelling and human emotion remain central to the series. Speaking about the project, Vipul Amrutlal Shah said, With Ankahee, we wanted to establish that vertical storytelling does not have to mean superficial storytelling. A small screen and a shorter duration can still accommodate big emotions, strong characters and compelling narratives. Bada Jurm, Choti Kahani takes that thought into the crime genre. Every episode may be short, but the crime, the circumstances, and most importantly the character are not. We want audiences to look beyond the crime and ask what makes an ordinary person commit an extraordinary act. The human aspect remains common at the core of any story we do at Sunshine. The series has been designed as a suspense thriller set within the crime genre, with the makers stating that artificial intelligence has been integrated into the creative process to enhance visual storytelling while keeping the human experience at the centre of the narrative. Sanjay Upadhyay added, AI is an exciting creative tool, but technology by itself cannot create a connection with an audience. That connection comes from a story and from characters that feel real. With Bada Jurm, Choti Kahani, our attempt is to use the possibilities of AI to tell stories that are sharp, contemporary and visually distinctive, while keeping the human emotions at the centre of every crime. The official promo for the series was released on August 3 and drew attention from viewers online, with several praising its tone and premise. The free-to-watch weekly series will begin streaming on YouTube from August 13, with new episodes releasing every Thursday on Sunshine Pictures official YouTube channel. Lyricist and writer Manoj Muntashir has responded to AR Rahman's past comments about alleged prejudice in the Hindi film industry and his subsequent description of Chhaava as a propaganda film. Muntashir questioned both remarks, arguing that there could be several reasons behind an artiste receiving less work and that Rahman, having worked on Chhaava, would have been aware of the film's story before agreeing to compose its music. Muntashir shared his views during a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel. He said, When Mohd Azharuddin became captain of the Indian Cricket team, when a Muslim becomes the President of India, when a legend like AR Rahman... who despite his religious identity... there is no bigger name than him in this country. Why didn't he ask this question, Why me? or Why a Muslim? Muntashir went on to suggest that there could be other factors behind an artiste receiving fewer opportunities and said such possibilities should also be considered before attributing it to religious discrimination. Today, because of some reason you feel that you are getting less work, then why shouldn't we look for other reasons? It might be that we have not maintained good relations with people. Maybe the songs haven't worked in the last few years. There can be so many other reasons, he said. Rahman composed the music for the historical drama, which was directed by Laxman Utekar and starred Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Questioning Rahman's decision to associate with the film if he viewed its narrative as propaganda, Muntashir said the composer would have known the story before signing on. He shouldn't have been a part of that film. It is not like you hadn't heard the script before agreeing to work in it. You suddenly started composing music for it? He must have read the script, Muntashir said. He further questioned why Rahman would work on the project before criticising its nature after its completion. Okay, so it was a propaganda film and you didn't want to do it... but after doing the film and calling it a propaganda, I do not understand this, sorry, he added. Muntashir also said he would be willing to discuss the matter directly with Rahman if they meet. I don't understand what is the reason behind hurting the social fabric of this nation suddenly. But whenever I will meet him, I will ask him this. He does not mind an open dialogue, he said. Siddharth is receiving attention for his portrayal of Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja in Netflixs Operation Safed Sagar. The actor has now opened up about the responsibility of portraying a real-life martyr, the extensive research behind the series and the support he received from Ahujas wife, Alka Ahuja, during his preparation for the role. Siddharth revealed that he was initially cautious about taking on the role, particularly because he has generally avoided portraying real-life heroes. However, the research that went into Operation Safed Sagar and the involvement of the Indian Air Force, pilots and their families gave him confidence in the project. I was chosen by the universe to play Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja. I have never played real-life heroes, except in Rang De Basanti where I played Shaheed Bhagat Singh. 20 years after playing a martyr, to be chosen to play Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, explains why I was destined to play, he said and mentioned that he usually does not like to play real-life heroes because of the way their lives are placed on commercial grounds. He went on to add, Having said that, I don't like to approach real-life heroes; usually in India, we take the lives of martyrs, and we commercialise them for our own benefit to make money. I was worried before I signed Safed Sagar that this should have the intent that previous films have shown in this regard. The actor eventually decided to come on board after learning about the extensive groundwork undertaken for the series. When they told me the entire research that had gone into the entire creation, six years of research, the complete blessing of the Indian Airforce and the personal accounts of real pilots, real heroes and their families, is what has gone into creating Operation Safed Sagar, he revealed. Siddharth also spoke about his experience of exploring Squadron Leader Ajay Ahujas life, both as an officer and as an individual. In terms of Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja's life, he was a very inspiring man in the face of war and in peacetime. I have tremendously enjoyed the privilege of being allowed to discover and explore his life, he added. For his preparation, Siddharth said he primarily relied on the military research provided to him to understand Ahujas professional journey in the Indian Air Force, including his association with the Golden Arrows and Squadron 17. He went on to share, Primarily, I have leaned only on the military research that was provided to me, which helps me to understand the beats that he had to follow when he was in the Indian Air Force and squadron leader of the Golden Arrows and Squadron 17. A significant part of his preparation came from Alka Ahuja, who not only gave him permission to portray her husband but also shared something deeply personal with the actor. More importantly, his wife, Alka Ahuja, gave me not just the permission to play Ahuja sir but also gave me the spiritual understanding and strength I needed to wear his uniform and his shoes, he shared. Siddharth recalled writing to Alka during his preparation and asking whether she had any personal recordings or belongings of the late officer that could help him understand him better. I am happy to share that I wrote to her when I started the preparation for the performance. I asked her, 'Ma'am, can you send me any video or audio recordings? I know it was not common in 99 and before to have audio and video recordings of our lives the way it is today. I am sure today's youngsters can't even imagine a different time from what it is today. I also asked her if she could give me any personal artefacts, maybe shoelaces or a handkerchief. Alkas response and the item she eventually sent became an important moment for Siddharth and the team. She wrote back to me saying, I don't have any audio or video recordings, but whatever you create in Safed Sagar will be my memories of him going forward. That broke the entire team and me for days. Alka Ma'am went a step further and sent me his flying patches known as Wings. Pilots consider them an extension of themselves. The wings are the badges you wear as an Airforce pilot. It is considered an extension of a pilot's soul. That's what she sent me to wear through the show. My track in the film, especially Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, continues to receive so much love even today. It's heartwarming to see audiences revisit the film generation after generation. Im going to be ever grateful to Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani for giving me DCH - I feel proud to be a part of Excel Entertainments first-ever project. Looking back at the atmosphere on the sets, the actress said that the team was unaware that they were working on a film that would eventually become a reference point for generations of viewers. The atmosphere was so youthful, energetic and full of humour. We were simply a group of passionate people trying to make something beautiful. Nobody dreamt that we were making a film that would become a milestone for generations, she shared. Sonali also recalled the unusual circumstances through which she landed the role of Pooja. According to the actress, her photographs accidentally came to the attention of Zoya Akhtar, who was the casting director and chief AD on the project at the time. Recalling the story, Sonali shared, It's almost a filmy story. My photographs accidentally fell out of someone's file, and Zoya happened to notice them. She had already seen my work in films like Daayra, Mukta and Dr. Ambedkar and called me to audition for Pooja. The audition itself was filled with laughter and improvisation. I instantly fell in love with the warmth of the team and knew I wanted to be a part of this world. For Sonali, the film also offered an introduction to a world that was very different from her upbringing in Pune. She credited Zoya Akhtar for helping her navigate the fashion and contemporary aesthetic. I come from a simple family, and Pune wasn't the bustling city it is today. I wasn't exposed to the world of fashion, luxury or the lifestyle that surrounded Dil Chahta Hai. Zoya became the person who gently introduced me to that world. What I admire most about her is that despite her incredible sense of style and creative vision, she has always remained grounded. She truly loves cinema, and that authenticity reflects in everything she creates. I will always be grateful to her for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be part of a film that has become a cultural landmark in Indian cinema, she revealed. One of the memorable portions of Sonalis role in Dil Chahta Hai was the song Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, in which she was paired with Saif Ali Khan. Recalling the preparation for the song, the actress revealed that she had very little time for rehearsals because of her theatre commitments. Sonali went on to add, I was told I could rehearse only for a few hours because I had to leave for my theatre performance. But after barely 10 or 15 minutes, they told me, 'You're ready, we'll see you on set.' I was terrified because I thought I needed more practice, but they assured me everything was perfect. The shoot itself became another memorable experience for Sonali, particularly because of the laughter shared by the cast. Recalling Saif Ali Khans reaction to her look in the song, she mentioned, When I appeared in that body-hugging Punjabi suit and bouffant hairstyle, Saif couldn't stop laughing. He joked that he felt like he was dancing with his mother (Sharmila Tagore) because of the hairstyle. Every sequence- from recreating classic Bollywood eras to the tiny comic expressionswas filled with laughter. Even today, it feels like we shot the song only yesterday. Sonali also spoke about her experience of working with Saif and their chemistry on screen. Working with Saif was so easy. We clicked from our very first scene together, and his comic timing is extraordinary. Many scenes had to be retaken because I simply couldn't stop laughing. I had fallen in love with Saif as an actor in Dil Chahta Hai, and that admiration only grew over the years as we saw his comic timing and his sharp sense of humour. Saif has such a unique, friendly vibe. Working with each other felt effortless, she stated. The actress also remembered working with Farhan Akhtar, who made his directorial debut with Dil Chahta Hai. According to Sonali, his preparation and clarity were evident despite it being his first film as a director. Farhan may have been making his directorial debut, but he was remarkably composed and well prepared. We had a bound script, everything was structured and he knew exactly what he wanted. It truly felt like a group of talented youngsters creating something special, she mentioned. 'The Odyssey' sparks tourist rush at filming locations
Christopher Nolan's blockbuster, The Odyssey, has sparked a surge of interest in its filming locations. The film was shot at stunning sites across Greece, Italy, Morocco, Scotland, and Iceland.
Irshad Kamil is currently known as one of the most prolific lyricists in Hindi cinema. He is currently riding on the success of Main Vaapas Aaunga. But not many would remember that he started as a screenwriter when he first emerged on the scene more than two decades ago. Interestingly, he has returned to screenwriting in the recently-released web series Operation Safed Sagar after more than a decade and a half. Kamil has written additional dialogues for the show based on 1999 Kargil War. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, he spoke about how he got back to writing dialogues after these many years. Sanjay Routray, the producer of Operation Safed Sagar, knows me from the time of Socha Na Tha (2005). He was the executive producer of that film. He asked to come and see what kind of dialogues can be in this show. As there are also Pakistani characters, they dont speak the kind of Hindi that we speak here. There is a different type of mixture with Urdu. He said I should do some dialogues for some characters. So, I did dialogues for them. This is after around 16 years that I have done dialogues, said Kamil. Kamil revealed the reason for discontinuing screenwriting and becoming a lyricist instead. After migrating to Bombay, I used to write TV shows, he said. I used to write story, screenplay and dialogues. But later I felt that TV is not giving me that kind of a high. After a point, you feel you want something else. So, I left TV and tried lyrics writing. The first film I signed was Socha Na Tha. The first release was Chameli (2003). I started getting more satisfaction while writing lyrics. There is another reason why Irshad Kamil felt it wasnt worth writing for TV shows. What happened with TV was that there was a show after every 30 minute, so they stopped showing the initial credits, which I found heart-breaking. I thought nobody would know whether I have written the show or someone else. So, I left that. My last serial was Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli with Rajshri (Productions), he said. Operation Safed Sagar is getting rave reviews from audiences and critics. The show is streaming on Netflix. Kay Kay Menon has often been seen in intense roles, including cops, investigators and characters operating in darker or more serious worlds. However, his latest series, Prime Video's Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, allows the actor to explore a more overtly humorous side of his performance. The seven-episode series started streaming on July 24 and also stars Archana Puran Singh, Prasanna Bisht and Naveen Kasturia. Set in a dysfunctional government school in Delhi, Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya follows a laidback headmaster whose plan to organise a fully paid Cambridge trip leads to an attempt to transform the struggling institution. The resulting chaos forms the basis of the show's comedy. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Menon addressed whether the series represents a departure from the darker roles he has frequently played. The actor pointed out that humour has actually been present in several of his earlier performances, even if those projects did not always receive the same level of attention. Actually, over a period of time I've done this kind of stuff, just that something gets popular, something doesn't. You can't help that. I've done Sankat City earlier, I've done Benny & Babloo earlier, I've done Farzi earlier, you know, so many of them, Menon said. The actor added that he naturally tries to incorporate humour into his performances, regardless of the genre or character he is playing. It's just that there are different people and I inherently try and bring some humour into whatever I'm doing, even if it's Himmat Singh. So that has been in the grain. Here it's out and out. It's in that sense different, he explained. Menon also stressed that his approach to Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya was not simply about playing a headmaster. Instead, he focused on understanding and portraying Gyaneshwar Tripathi, the character created for him by the show's makers. I'm still trying to play that person called Gyaneshwar Tripathi. So if he was Ramesh Tripathi, he would have been a different person. So I'm not playing the headmaster at all. I'm playing that person who has been given to me by Biswapati Sarkar and gang, he said. For Menon, finding the personality behind the designation is central to his acting process. He said his effort is always to portray the individual rather than simply the profession or position associated with the character. That is my endeavour always, to play the person, and I find him very endearing, the actor added. Kay Kay Menon says Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya is meant to be taken lightly Given that Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya is set against the backdrop of a government school and revolves around teachers attempting to address problems within the institution, Menon was also asked whether the show reflects India's education system or attempts to offer audiences a message of hope. The actor clarified that the series should primarily be viewed as a work of humour rather than a serious commentary on the education system. It's a very light take, nothing too serious. If people want to take a lesson out of it, most welcome. But it is a fictitious school. It is a dysfunctional school in a fictitious town called Tinki Toli which doesn't exist, he said. Menon further explained that viewers do not necessarily need to look for a deeper message in every aspect of the story. So the entire thing has to be seen as a portion of humour. You really can't, because otherwise what happens is that nowadays everybody tries to take out something from [everything]. Some things can be light and watch it for what it is, he said. At the same time, the actor acknowledged that the writers may have drawn from their own experiences while developing the story and characters. I'm sure the writers have had their own experiences and which is why the script has come about. They've taken it from their own lives perhaps, and it's very well written, Menon said. He also maintained that he does not approach his performances with the intention of teaching audiences or offering them advice. So, as an actor, all I can say is that I've never endeavoured to give a lesson to people or give gyaan, he said, before adding with a laugh, which is why I don't even do podcasts because I can't give gyaan anymore. With Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, Menon gets to foreground a lighter quality that has appeared in his work before but is more central to this particular character. The actor's comments also underline his focus on playing Gyaneshwar Tripathi as an individual rather than simply presenting another version of a school headmaster. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Menon recalled his first impression of the children on the set and said he was taken aback by how naturally they approached acting and working in front of the camera. The first thing I was completely taken aback by was that the actors were children in this show. They are the actual stars. They are unbelievably good, all of them, and they know everything about the camera, they know the angles, they know about magnification, and bang on, the actor said. Menon noted that the way children perform on camera has changed significantly compared to earlier generations. According to him, young actors today are more natural and do not necessarily rely on the kind of rehearsed mannerisms that were once commonly associated with child performers. It's not the old type acting in which the father and mother used to tutor a child before and send him. I also mentioned this in an interview that previously you used to find a child always saying two times uncle or two times... uncle, uncle used to go like that. So all that is gone. Today the child is behaving like a child, and I was pleasantly surprised, Menon explained. The observation led to a discussion on whether the change represents a broader generational shift in the way children understand filmmaking and performance. Prasanna Bisht, who is also part of Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, agreed with Menon's assessment. She pointed out that children today are exposed to filmmaking from a much younger age, particularly through smartphones and social media. Yes, I agree. They're making their own films; they're shooting on phones and everything, and it comes with generational information, Bisht said. Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya is currently streaming on Prime Video.
