Director Meghna Gulzar recently opened up about her experiences of working with several prominent actors, including Irrfan Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Tabu, Sushmita Sen, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. During a conversation for The Indian Express Expresso series, Meghna reflected on the different working styles of the actors she has collaborated with over the years. The filmmaker, known for films such as Raazi, Talvar and Sam Bahadur, is currently preparing for the release of Daayra, which stars Kareena and Prithviraj. Irrfan Khan Talking about her experience with Irrfan Khan in Talvar, Meghna said she had very little to do when it came to directing him. I really had nothing to do. Everything he did, he made me look good, she said. However, she revealed that there was one aspect of their collaboration that she still does not have an answer to. I still dont know which side of Talvars perspective he believes or agrees with, she said. Vicky Kaushal Meghna also discussed her working relationship with Vicky Kaushal, whom she directed in Raazi and Sam Bahadur. Describing their understanding, she said, I dont need to complete a sentence. He knows what I am going to say if I want him to do something differently. That connection is just superb. She added that finding another role bigger than Sam Bahadur could be difficult. After Sam Bahadur, it is going to be very difficult to find a role that is larger than that. And the desire to work with him is very much there, she said. Deepika Padukone On Deepika Padukone, who worked with her in Chhapaak, Meghna said, She is a deep actor. Shell never stay on the surface. She will go beneath the surface of the character, of the scene, of the story. She also joked about their similarities, saying, Shes a bigger OCD than I am. Alia Bhatt Discussing Alia Bhatt, Meghna described her as spontaneous and instinctive. She is spontaneous and instinctive to a point where she can hurt herself, she said, recalling the running sequence in Raazi. The running scene in Raazi is where she would get hurt every day. That is the difficult part. She tends to hurt herself, she added. Tabu and Sushmita Sen Meghna also recalled working with Tabu and Sushmita Sen in Filhaal. While she found Tabus performance easy to work with, she admitted that directing an already established actor was not simple. She is already an accomplished, senior actor. To be telling her what to do and how to do it was not easy, she said. Speaking about Sushmita, Meghna said, What you see is what you get. Very, very not layered at all. The relationship was very easy. Asked about the difficult part, she simply said, There was nothing difficult with her. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj On her current collaborators Kareena and Prithviraj in Daayra, Meghna said both actors required very little instruction. The easy part has been their proficiency as actors. I dont have to talk about that. There was very little instruction required, she said. She further noted that their interpretations had gone beyond what she had originally envisioned. The interpretation they have given for their characters has elevated them more than I had imagined on paper, or between the lines. Thats the very gratifying part, she said. However, Meghna admitted that the trust placed in her by the two actors also comes with responsibility. The immense trust they put in me is very scary. That makes it difficult, she said. Digital Desk | New Delhi, Sep 17 (IANS) Satish Salian, father of late Disha Salian, former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has sent a defamation notice seeking Rs 500 crore in compensation from Shiv Sena(UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and former Maharashtra Home minister Anil Deshmukh. The notice objects to certain statements made by the two leaders. Satish Salian has demanded an apology, retraction of the statements and compensation of Rs 500 crore. The two have been given seven days to comply with the demands. Disha Salian, 28, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. The police treated the incident as an accidental death and registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). Six days later, actor Sushant Singh Rajput died. Disha's father, who had initially said that he did not suspect a criminal angle, approached the Bombay High Court seeking registration of an FIR and a fresh investigation. The petition sought an investigation into allegations involving several individuals, including Aaditya Thackeray, Dino Morea and Sooraj Pancholi. Six years later, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe. The Rs 500 crore legal notice accuses Aaditya Thackeray of questioning Satish Salian's motives and attempting to portray his pursuit of justice as politically motivated, malicious, and actuated by an ulterior object aimed at damaging his reputation. The aforesaid allegations are false, baseless, reckless and grossly defamatory, having been made without any credible material or proof and solely with a view to further your ulterior and improper motives. The said allegations amount to a direct and serious imputation upon the integrity, credibility, honesty and bona fides of my client (Satish Salian), by portraying a bereaved father, who was merely seeking a lawful investigation into the alleged gang rape and murder of his daughter, as a person abusing the judicial process for an improper, malicious and politically motivated purpose, the legal notice reads. The notice also accuses Thackeray of falsely representing that the CBI had already investigated the Disha Salian case and given him a clean chit. More seriously, a categorical representation was made on your behalf that the CBI had already investigated the Disha Salian case and had given you a clean chit. This alleged prior investigation was relied upon to oppose my client's prayer for an independent CBI investigation and to further portray his proceedings as unnecessary, frivolous and motivated, the notice states. According to the notice, Thackeray allegedly claimed that Satish Salian was being used as a tool to harass him, a claim that Deshmukh allegedly supported. The notice states that on March 23, 2025, Deshmukh said that the Disha Salian case was a conspiracy to defame Aaditya Thackeray. It further alleges that the statement received widespread publicity and portrayed Satish Salian as a dishonest, politically motivated and malicious litigant misusing the criminal justice system. Satish Salian has demanded an unconditional, unequivocal and unqualified written and public apology. He has sought that the apology be published and broadcast across major print, television and digital media platforms. The notice also demands that the video apology be at least three minutes long and be posted on the two leaders' official social media accounts. Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday denied having any link with Disha Salian, two days after the CBI named him in its FIR in the case. I have never met Disha Salian, nor did I have any acquaintance with her, Thackeray said in a post on X, adding that he wanted to cut through the noise and talk facts, once again. He further said, Linking my name to this tragic case constantly is a deliberate, evidence-free attempt at character assassination by a few individuals with clear political and personal motives, for almost 6 years. Thackeray did not name anyone in the post. However, he has previously accused the ruling BJP-led alliance of dragging his name into the matter. Others named in the FIR have also denied any role. Jaipur youth dies of electrocution at Devdham Jodhpuria Lakkhi Mela, 3 women injured
Digital Desk | Jaipur, Sep 17 (IANS) A 20-year-old youth from Jaipur died after being electrocuted during the ongoing Lakkhi Mela at Devdham Jodhpuria in Tonk district. The incident took place on Wednesday night. Three women were also injured after an electric current reportedly passed through the steel railing near the temples main gate. The incident triggered panic among devotees gathered at the fair. The injured were taken to the Sub-District Hospital in Niwai for treatment. According to the information available, an electric current suddenly surged through the steel railing near the temples main entrance. Piyush Gurjar, 20, came into contact with the electrified railing and suffered a severe electric shock. Despite efforts to save him, Piyush died in the incident. The injured women have been identified as Manju Devi, 33, wife of Puran Gurjar of Dhani Narayanpur Dungri in Kotputli district, and Bina Devi, 34, wife of Badri Prasad Gurjar of Ajpura under Narayanpur police station in Kotputli district. Both women are undergoing treatment at the Sub-District Hospital in Niwai. Police and administrative officials reached the hospital and gathered information about the incident from the injured. A 17-year-old girl, Manish Gurjar, a resident of Mankot under Thanagazi police station, was also injured after coming into contact with the electric current. After receiving first aid, she was referred to Jaipur in view of her critical condition. The deceased, Piyush Gurjar, was the son of Bhanwar Singh Gurjar and a resident of Top Khana, Indira Bazar, Jaipur. After receiving information about the incident, personnel from Sadar police station reached the Sub-District Hospital. Police placed Piyushs body in the mortuary and began efforts to contact his family. A large number of devotees had gathered at Devdham Jodhpuria for the Lakkhi Mela when the incident occurred. The heavy crowd reportedly made it difficult for the ambulance to reach the injured and transport them to the hospital. The incident briefly created panic among devotees at the fair. Speaking at the film's launch event which was held at the Music Academy here on Wednesday evening, director Gowtam Tinnanuri disclosed that his entire team had been researching on the great singer for the last one year. He said, For the last one year, our entire team was constantly living with one name, M.S. Subbulakshmi Amma. When we started our work, we first thought we were working on a picture in which we had to show India's greatest musician ever produced. But after getting into the story, we slowly realised that it was not simply about a great musician. It's about an extraordinary life. He went on to add, When you see M.S. Amma's life, the Bharat Ratna, the great stages, the great concert halls -- all these are just parts of her life. But behind all these, there is a human being, there is a daughter, there is an artiste, there is a woman who dreamed, who saw success, who saw failure, who did a lot of sacrifice.
