Months after the release of the Dhurandhar duology, the portrayal of Ranveer Singh as Hamza continues to be discussed within the film industry. Actor Abhishek Banerjee has now shared his assessment of the performance, calling it one of the best he has seen and describing the role as more challenging for an actor than Ranveers acclaimed portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat. Speaking about Ranveers performance as Hamza, Abhishek Banerjee said, It's one of the best performances I've ever seen and Ranveer Singh, what he did, I think it's one of the best. I don't have anybody to compare with. It is his best. Abhishek was subsequently asked whether he considered Ranveers Alauddin Khilji from Padmaavat to be a stronger performance than Hamza. He felt that Hamza presented a different set of challenges for the actor. Trust me, this is more difficult than Khilji. As an actor, I can tell. I don't know whether he'll agree to it or not. But I think Khilji, whether, see, I'm saying Khilji, if he didn't do it, somebody else did it, Khilji would still be Khilji. Hamza, on paper, no matter how good he is, you have to really, really, you know, be at it to get those emotions out. Especially the scene where, the second part, how it starts and he starts killing for his sister. The rage, I have not seen something like that in a long, long, long time, he shared. According to Abhishek, a key distinction between the two characters lies in how much the actors interpretation contributes to their impact. While Khilji comes with a recognisable historical identity and a larger-than-life persona, Hamza required Ranveer to build the character through his performance and emotional detailing. The actors comments also highlight the impact of Hamzas emotional arc, particularly the sequences in Dhurandhar: The Revenge involving his sister. Ranveers physicality, voice modulation, expressions and portrayal of rage became significant aspects of the characters presentation. The performance has also been accompanied by a strong theatrical run for the Dhurandhar franchise. Meanwhile, Ranveer is set to headline Pralay, which will also mark his debut as a producer under his banner Maa Kasam Films. The project will add another chapter to the actors upcoming slate following the success and attention surrounding his work as Hamza. The Dil Chahta Hai Reunion happened yesterday August 28 at a suburban hotel in Mumbai. It was organized by Amazon Music and We Are Yuva. The event saw the presence of almost the entire team of the film Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Dimpla Kapadia, Sonali Kulkarni, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Javed Akhtar, Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa get nostalgic on 25 years of the iconic film. Aamir revealed that the initial script of Dil Chahta Hai was written entirely in English. When I heard the script for the first time, I just loved it, he said. Farhan had narrated it to me but he had written the entire script in English. So, all the lines that the characters were speaking were in English. Because of the milieu and the backdrop of these characters, it was quite natural that they were speaking in English. So, at the end of the narration, I told Farhan, Its a great script. But are you planning to make this in English?. He said, No, I want to make it in Hindi. I told him, I dont know how would you translate this flavour, which you are getting in English. Aamir continued, English is a very economical language. I said, If its going into Hindi, you might not be able to retain the flavour that you currently have in English. If you want to make it in Hindi, you write it in Hindi and get it to me. I want to hear how it sounds in Hindi. He said, Cool, give me a couple of months. The actor said that he was sure the script is not going to work in Hindi. I was so sure that its very difficult to translate that English into Hindi, said Aamir. I was pretty sure that when I hear the Hindi version, I am going to cringe. But when I heard the Hindi version, I was blown. Thats when I realized even more sharply that the emotion that you are feeling, you can convey that cool-ness in any language. You can convey any flavour in any language. We assume that English badi cool language hai; no. Hindi is as cooler language. You should know how to use it. Among the various hilarious incidents shared during the event, the one that stood out was Aamir listening to the narration of Dil Chahta Hai for the second time. Aamir had heard the script before he went to shoot Lagaan, shared Farhan. Then after six months, he was coming back to Bombay. He said Yaar, I want to hear the script again. I just want to be familiar with it again. I said cool. He said, I am going to land at so and so time. I will just go home, shower quickly and come to your house and I will hear the script. Farhan continued, So, he came home and we narrated the first half. And obviously, the schedule of Lagaan must have been so demanding because of where they were shooting and how the shoot was going. He was so exhausted when he came home, that roughly about 11:30 in the morning, he said, after the first half was done, Guys, I just need a 15-minute power nap. Wake me up in 15 minutes with a chai and then we will hear the second half. And he went to sleep. We gave a pillow, blanket and bedsheet. What Farhan shared next brought the house down. After that, we tried to wake him up; he woke up at 8 in the evening, recalled the filmmaker. At 8 in the evening, we were downstairs and having our chai and drinking out beer. Aamir comes up and says, How much did a sleep? While the whole venue was in splits, Aamir said calmly, Yes, I remember that. I am a heavy sleeper. Katrina Kaif expands Kay Beauty into skincare with Hydra Glaze Essence and Hydra Base Water Crme
Katrina Kaif is expanding her beauty business with the launch of Kay Beautys first-ever skincare range. Co-founded by Katrina Kaif and Nykaa, the brand has introduced two skincare essentials Hydra Glaze Essence and Hydra Base Water Crme as it moves beyond makeup and into everyday skincare. The launch marks a new chapter for Kay Beauty, which was founded in 2019 around the philosophy of Makeup That Kares. The brands latest offering extends that approach to skincare, with a focus on hydration, skin-barrier support and formulas designed with sensitive skin in mind. Katrinas own experiences with sensitive skin have played a role in shaping the new range. Years of working in front of the camera, spending long hours on film sets and frequent travel have influenced her approach to skincare. According to the brand, supporting the skin barrier, replenishing moisture and calming redness and irritation became key considerations in developing the products. Commenting on the launch, Katrina Kaif, Co-Founder, Kay Beauty says, My relationship with skincare has evolved through so many different phases of my life. Having sensitive skin, combined with years of working in front of the camera, long days on film sets and constant travel, has made me very aware of what my skin needs and how differently it can respond from one day to the next. Those experiences shaped so much of the thinking behind Kay Beauty skincare. Working closely with our formulation experts, we wanted to create an effective range that really focuses on the fundamentals Ive come to value most: strengthening and supporting the skin barrier, deep cellular hydration and keeping the skin feeling soothed, calm and protected. It was equally important that the formulas felt lightweight and effortless to use, and created a beautiful, well-prepped base for makeup to sit smoothly. The range brings together Kare and performance in a way that feels like a natural extension to the Kay Beauty universe. The Hydra Glaze Essence is designed to provide deep hydration, deliver an instant glow and help refine skin texture. The Hydra Base Water Crme, meanwhile, is a lightweight moisturiser intended to hydrate the skin while helping strengthen and calm the skin barrier. The products were developed over three years with leading formulators in Korea and Italy. The formulations have been clinically tested on Indian women with sensitive skin and were developed to combine efficacy with a gentle application. Biochemist and cosmetic futurist Nausheen Qureshi also worked closely with the teams during the development process. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kay Beauty By Katrina (@kaybykatrina) According to Kay Beauty, all formulas are fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin, with the range supported by multiple clinically evaluated efficacy claims. Adwaita Nayar, Co-founder and Executive Director of Nykaa, and CEO - House of Nykaa, adds, Since its inception, Kay Beauty has been built around the belief that performance and care should go hand in hand. As consumers increasingly embrace a skin-first approach to beauty, skincare felt like a natural evolution for the brand. With this launch, we wanted to bring the same performance-led approach to formulations that are thoughtful, effective and uncomplicated, while staying true to our #MakeupThatKares philosophy. This range is an important step in expanding Kay Beauty into a more holistic beauty brand, rooted in how consumers are evolving their everyday routines. With the launch, Katrina Kaif and Kay Beauty are positioning skincare as a natural extension of the brands existing makeup philosophy, while bringing the actors personal relationship with sensitive skin into the product development narrative. Akshay Oberoi impressed the audience with his short but impactful performance in Yash-starrer Toxic. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the talented and dashing actor spoke about his experience of working on the film a lot more. Toxic is your biggest film to date. What are your thoughts now that it has finally released in cinemas? You said it yourself. Its the biggest film I have done. It has opened me up to an audience that didnt know me. Theres a chunk of cinemagoing audience in the South that are probably discovering my work for the first time. Across the country, the film probably must be playing in around 12,000-13,000 screens. Also, the box office number on the day of release has been astronomical. Some films do such numbers in their lifetime and they are called successful. Hence, its been very cool to be a part of that experience. It was also lovely to be on the promotional tour. I am grateful to Boss (Yash) and Geetu Mohandas that they even invited me to come, celebrate and promote the film across the country. It was super-fun (smiles). Before Toxic, Geetu Mohandas had made small-budget films like Liar's Dice (2013) and Moothon (2019). Did you ever imagine that Toxic was going to be a big-scale production when it was offered to you? Well, we are all plugged into the business. Hence, I knew that Geetu Mohandas was doing a film with Boss. Once I found out that the film being offered to me is directed by her, I knew what the film was. Udti-udti khabarein suni thi maine ki aisi koi film ban rahi hai. As a result, I knew the scale of the film a day before she was going to call to offer me the film. In my mind, it was already a yes. It was not like main baat karunga aur fir main sochunga. I was sure Ill give my nod for the project. At the Toxic trailer launch in Bengaluru, you revealed that you were told to mouth a dialogue from The Godfather (1972) as part of your audition Yes. She saw my film Fighter (2024), after which she got in touch with me. It's all thanks to her 13-year-old daughter, by the way! Geetus meeting had got cancelled and she was free. Her daughter insisted that she wanted to see Fighter. She agreed. She saw me in Fighter, liked my performance and sourced my number. She told casting director Yash Nagarkoti that I know how he acts in Hindi, but I want to see how he acts in English. Hence, I was asked to send an audio of me speaking an English dialogue. I agreed and asked Yash Nagarkoti which scene I should perform. He told me to mouth a dialogue of Moe Greenes character from The Godfather. However, instead of simply sending an audio clip, I wore a suit, did my hair, performed the entire scene on camera and sent it to her. She told me she hadnt expected that. I replied, I was getting a chance to act in front of you. I wasnt going to miss that opportunity. Audio bhej ke kya karta main? If I had a chance to make you watch me act, I thought I should put it on tape and do it in the best way possible. Thats how I bagged the part. Its the film where I probably learned the most, including about the business of cinema. There were so many big stars and hence, it was a complete learning graph. Was your death scene the most difficult one? Yes. Having said that, I dont ever view acting like a difficult thing. Its a joy. Getting a scene like that was so much fun. Of course, I am crying and screaming in that sequence. But I never find acting a burden and I am not like, Oh, I have to do such a scene aur isliye main 4 ghante soch raha hoon. I go with the flow and be in the moment. I work a lot on the character, like who the guy is, what he is after, where he has come from etc. I also make sure that I know my lines very, very well. Then, you surrender to the moment. You have fun. Similarly, after completing that days shoot, I didnt go home thinking, Oh, what a difficult day. Thank God, its over. Instead, I was sad because the best scene I had in the film, the one where I got to do the most acting, was over! Were you shocked reading the twist in the climax of Toxic when the film was offered to you? No, as we were only narrated until where we were in the film. Nobody knew the rest of the script! As time went on and because I got close to Geetu and Boss, I was able to roughly figure things out. You addressed Yash as Boss. Since when are you doing that and how did it start? Its a title given to him by his ardent fans who know him since the beginning of his career. Later on, he got the tag of Rocking Star Yash. However, the Boss title predates the Rocking Star Yash tag. And the title is apt because he is a boss. Everyone on the set and the people working for his production house, Monster Mind Creations, also call him Boss as hes such a leader. Toh woh dil se cheez nikalti hai. I just cant call him Yash sir, it has to be Boss. Seeing him exposed me to so many things about my own career. I realized I am running behind big producers and directors. I guess doing so is important as well. But this man has believed in himself and invested in himself. Of course, hes an actor par excellence, but he has learned every department of filmmaking from lighting and editing to screenplay, distribution, production design and practically every other aspect of the craft. Hes curating his own content and carving his own path. Hes not waiting for anybody. The problem of an actor is that we wait for that one phone call that would change our lives. Hence, when I saw him, I realized that theres a whole different way of achieving your dream. This is the reason people like Yash are called path-breakers. When I saw that, it made me realize that mere andar yeh cheez nahin thi. But now I have imbibed the quality from him and youll see me implementing it big time in the next few years. I dont know exactly when, but I know how. For that reason, I have to call him Boss. I have given him that place in my mind and heart as hes that for me. Women's Asia Cup: India Battle For Continental Glory As Thailand Opener Awaits (preview)
Dubai International Cricket Stadium: The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women's team will aim to put 2024's complacency behind them and show their muscle in a battle for Asia Cup glory. The continental showpiece, hosted in the UAE, kicked off on Friday with Thailand beating Hong Kong China in the opener, but the most successful side in the competition's history, India, will take the field on Sunday against Thailand. India enter the Asia Cup on the back of their second consecutive group-stage exit at the T20 World Cup, despite an unprecedented ODI world crown to their name. They largely field the same squad that played the T20 World Cup in England earlier this year, with only Yastika Bhatia, Shreyanka Patil (fitness) and Jemimah Rodrigues (hamstring injury) missing from that roster. Pratika Rawal's maiden T20I call-up for the Asia Cup, as a replacement for Rodrigues, came as a surprise to many, as she last played a T20 game in November 2024. The Women in Blue have dropped Yastika, while leg-spinner Prema Rawat, who replaced Shreyanka at the World Cup, kept her place. The bowling front remains unchanged, with a Renuka Singh-led pace attack that also includes Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud and Nandani Sharma, and will look to assert its authority. The spin department features Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma and Shree Charani. Meanwhile, Vaishnavi Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar and Asha Sobhana have not made the cut for the squad. Eyes will also be on how India field their Playing XI, especially who replaces Rodrigues, and the game against Thailand could offer a glimpse of their mindset when selecting combinations. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are likely to be at the top, while it could come down to Pratika or Kamalini battling for Rodrigues' spot at No.3. Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh and Bharti Fulmali are likely to form the middle order, while the toss-up will be among the pacers. Radha Yadav and Charani will be pushing for a place if India decide to pick two spinners. Thailand are coming into this tournament on the back of confidence. They won the Women's Premier Cup in June by beating the UAE in the final and have also started this tournament on a high note. Left-arm spinner Thipatcha Putthawong is their bowling lynchpin and is the highest wicket-taker in the history of women's T20I cricket, with 169 wickets to her name. She went past India's Deepti with a 1-23 against Hong Kong. Off-spinner Onnicha Kamchomphu is doing good work too. She took 3-27 in the opener against Hong Kong and reached her 150th T20I wicket. 25-year-old wicket-keeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai is a rising star and their leading run-scorer with 2806 runs to her name. Eyes will also be on Phannita Maya and Natthakan Chantham as Thailand eye a strong outing against favourites India.
