Mirzapur The Movie song Ghoom Ghoom: Ray reveals how he created a futuristic Rajasthani soundscape

Composer, producer and singer Ray, also known as Sourav Roy, has opened up about creating Ghoom Ghoom, the latest song from Excel Entertainments Mirzapur: The Movie. Featuring vocals by Ray and Rashmeet Kaur and picturised on Sonal Chauhan, the track combines elements of Rajasthani musical traditions with contemporary and electronic production. Ray, who has worked across Bollywood films, independent music and Hollywood projects, said the track gave him an opportunity to explore a soundscape that was different from his previous work. Rather than recreating a conventional folk number, the team approached the Rajasthani Ghoomar dance style through a modern musical lens. Speaking about the track, Ray said, Ghoom Ghoom is a complete different world. I think its a trance where it takes you musically to a place called Rajasthan. He further explained the creative process behind the song. We tried to come up with a world of Rajasthani Ghoomar dance style in a complete new way. From making the melody, to breaking down the word Ghoomar into Ghoom Ghoom, and then creating the whole family of rhythm, beats, and synth with sub-frequency bass lines, it was a new chapter in its own way, quite different from what I have been creating. According to Ray, the song went through multiple stages of development before the final arrangement was locked. The makers had initially asked for a Rajasthani song, following which Ray explored different approaches with Gurmeet Singh before arriving at the final concept. The makers of this film wanted a Rajasthani song. I had worked on a couple of approaches with Gurmeet sir, but then we zeroed down on this specific idea. This took some time to shape up as Kumaar sir wrote the lyrics after the tune was locked, and then I was working with Ankur Tewari on the arrangements and sounds for this specific song. Ray has also worked across different aspects of film music, including composing songs, producing music, creating background scores and singing. He described the transition between these roles as a gradual process shaped by the opportunities he received. No, actually this has been a very smooth transition. By Gods grace, I got opportunities that made me face challenges musically, and going on and conquering them has gotten me to where I am today. Speaking about the difference between working on songs and film scores, particularly across Indian and international cinema, Ray said, Having the opportunity to work in both spheres of filmmaking, I have seen that there are some things which make these worlds different. For Hindi cinema, you need songs to reach a wider audience through lyrics and music, whereas abroad its mostly film scores that are the most essential part of storytelling. Ray also spoke about the growing global presence of Indian music, citing collaborations and artists who have contributed to its international reach. Indian audiences consume music differently compared to the West. Indian music has been travelling very well on the global stage from the time Ravi Shankar and The Beatles teamed up. Artists like Talvin Singh and Nitin Sawhney have also contributed immensely through the Asian Underground movement in the UK. On the film scale, A.R. Rahman sirs Jai Ho put Indian music on the map for the world to experience. I think we will get to see many more collaborations in the future, soon. With Ghoom Ghoom, Ray has brought together Rajasthani musical influences and contemporary sound design for Mirzapur: The Movie, adding another musical layer to the films larger cinematic world. Pakeezah 4K Restoration to premiere at Festival Lumire and BFI London Film Festival; Meena Kumari classic gets new lease of life

Film Heritage Foundations 4K restoration of Kamal Amrohis 1972 classic Pakeezah, starring Meena Kumari, is set to receive its global premiere at Frances Festival Lumire in Lyon, followed by a gala screening at the BFI London Film Festival. The restoration marks a significant step in preserving one of Indian cinemas most celebrated films. The restoration has been undertaken by Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) in association with the Amrohi family. The screening at the BFI IMAX in London will be presented by FHF director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur along with Kamal Amrohis children Tajdar and Rukhsaar Amrohi and grandson Bilal Amrohi. The restoration took two years and presented several technical challenges, as the original camera negative was found to be almost melted and unusable. FHF subsequently worked with an interpositive, a CinemaScope print and a colour reversal internegative preserved by the NFDC-National Film Archive of India. Original film stills and memories shared by Tajdar and Rukhsaar Amrohi were also used to help recreate the colour palette and visual consistency of the film. Speaking about the restoration, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur said, Restoring Pakeezah has been a long-held dream, and I am so grateful to Bilal Amrohi for being the moving spirit and encouraging the family to support the restoration and bring the film back to life. Pakeezah is a film that has been etched in my memory since I was a child when I watched it for the first time with my grandmother in a darkened cinema in Dumraon, Bihar. The restoration of Pakeezah took two years. It has been one of the most exciting yet one of the most challenging restorations I have worked on. When I went to inspect the original camera negative and saw that it had almost melted, my heart sank. And the other film elements we had to work with were not in good condition with faded colours, scratches and mould. In my minds eye, I could see each frame like a painting saturated with colours, the opulent sets and the luminous beauty of Meena Kumari and the songs of Ghulam Mohammed were ringing in my ears as if it was yesterday, but not a single cast or crew member survived from the film and I wondered how I would be able to restore Kamal Amrohis original vision with what I had to work with. During our research we discovered original film stills which helped a great deal and I also consulted Tajdar and Rukhsaar Amrohi who had visited the sets and had vivid memories from the making of the film. I couldnt have asked for a better showcase for the restored Pakeezah than the Festival Lumiere in Lyon, the birthplace of cinema followed by a gala screening at the London Film Festival. Tajdar Amrohi recalled his association with the film and his fathers dedication to the project. He said, I was at the grand premiere of Pakeezah in 1972 with my father and Choti Ammi (Meena Kumari) and the film cans arrived at Maratha Mandir in a palanquin. I never imagined that I would be presenting the restored film with my family at the gala premiere in London fifty-four years later. I would like to thank Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and Film Heritage Foundation for restoring the film with so much passion and meticulous care and for bringing my father and his greatest work back to life so that new generations will see the unforgettable Meena Kumari and enjoy the beauty of the film. I remember when I was a child, my father was deep into the making of Pakeezah. Everything in our lives revolved around Pakeezah. My father had put in everything he had in the film and whenever we asked him for anything as children, his response would always be, After Pakeezah. Pakeezah was his lifes mission. I have so many memories of the film as I would regularly visit the sets on Floor No. 3 at Filmistan where much of the film was shot. The film has influenced generations of filmmakers and even today I am sometimes asked how he achieved some of the shots. Rukhsaar Amrohi also reflected on her fathers connection with the film and Meena Kumari. She said, Pakeezah was my fathers obsession, his dream, his oxygen that gave meaning to his life. No one else could have played the role of Pakeezah, but Choti Ammi (Meena Kumari). She was Pakeezah. My father nurtured the film for over fifteen years like a child till it was fully matured and ready to be presented to the world. As a thirteen-year-old, I witnessed the countless sacrifices my father made and the relentless dedication and perfectionism in the face of almost insurmountable challenges to make his vision a reality. I have preserved every bit of his legacy that remains in Amroha, but for years, I felt that my fathers legacy as a great master of cinema had been forgotten. I would like to thank Shivendra Singh Dungarpur for taking the initiative to restore Pakeezah with so much love and care. I only wish my father were alive to see his creation restored and reborn for the world to see fifty-four years after it was released. I cannot wait to see the restored film back on the big screen and I will be travelling to London to present the film. Pakeezah, which was released on February 4, 1972, underwent a production journey spanning nearly 15 years. Originally conceived in the 1950s, the film began shooting in black-and-white before moving to Eastmancolor. The production was interrupted several times, including after Amrohi and Meena Kumari separated, before being revived in 1969. The film went on to become one of the defining works of Indian cinema, with Meena Kumaris performance as Sahibjaan becoming central to its enduring legacy. She passed away on March 31, 1972, just weeks after the films release. The restored version of Pakeezah is presented in 4K with a 5.1 sound mix. The film runs for 153 minutes and features Meena Kumari alongside Ashok Kumar, Raaj Kumar and Nadira. The restoration was carried out by Film Heritage Foundation at LImmagine Ritrovata laboratory in association with Bilal Amrohi of Lionheart Cinema. The Vvaan song Samjho Na out: Sidharth Malhotra, Tamannaah Bhatia share romantic chemistry in first on-screen pairing

The makers of The Vvaan have released the first song from the upcoming folklore-fantasy film, titled Samjho Na. The track features Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah in their first on-screen pairing, offering audiences a closer look at the romantic equation between their characters. While the teaser of The Vvaan introduced viewers to its supernatural setting and folklore-driven world, Samjho Na shifts the focus towards the relationship at the centre of the story. Set against the larger backdrop of mystery, adventure and fantasy, the song explores the romantic side of the characters played by Sidharth and Tamannaah. Released under the Zee Music label, the song has been composed and produced by Tanishk Bagchi, with Jubin Nautiyal and Suvarna Tiwari on vocals and Manoj Muntashir credited for the lyrics. Krishna Kishor has handled additional live production, while Eric Pillai has mixed and mastered the track. Michael Edwin Pillai serves as assistant mix engineer. Talking about Samjho Na, Jubin Nautiyal said, Samjho Na has a beautiful innocence and emotion that I connected with instantly. Tanishks melody and Manoj Muntashirs heartfelt lyrics capture the tenderness of love beautifully, and Suvarna and I truly enjoyed bringing it to life. Sidharth and Tamannaahs chemistry adds a special freshness to the song. I hope Samjho Na resonates with everyone and becomes a song they hold close to their hearts. For Sidharth and Tamannaah, the track marks their first appearance together as a romantic pairing. It also expands the promotional campaign for The Vvaan by introducing the emotional relationship between the protagonists alongside the films supernatural and folklore elements. The film brings together TVF founder Arunabh Kumar, director Deepak Mishra and producer Ektaa R Kapoor. The project combines elements of Indian folklore, fantasy, adventure, mystery and humour and is positioned as a family entertainer. The wider universe of the film has also been expanded through The Legend of Vvaan comic book. Presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, in association with TVF and 11.11 Production, The Vvaan stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah. The film is written by Arunabh Kumar and directed by Deepak Mishra, with Manu Anand serving as Director of Photography and Visual Director. It is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Arunabh Kumar and Niraj Kothari. The Vvaan is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 25, 2026. With the release of Samjho Na, the makers have now added a romantic dimension to the films previously established world of folklore, mystery and fantasy. Rasika Dugal recalls Mirzapurs rape scene ahead of Mirzapur The Movie release: I felt shattered to see Beena in a powerless situation

Rasika Dugal has revisited some of Beena Tripathis most significant moments from the Mirzapur series ahead of the theatrical release of Mirzapur The Movie. In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, the actor reflected on Beenas character arc, the difficult scenes she portrayed and the way the character repeatedly reclaims her agency. Beena Tripathi, played by Rasika, has remained one of the prominent characters in the Mirzapur franchise. Speaking about understanding Beenas emotional journey, Rasika credited the shows writers for giving her a strong foundation to work with. For me, it was never challenging to understand the emotional core of Beena Tripathi. It was on paper. The challenging part was to adapt her body language. When I first heard the story, my impression was that when Beena enters the room, people should turn around and look at her, Rasika told NDTV. One of the most disturbing moments in Beenas journey comes at the end of season one, when she is sexually assaulted by her father-in-law, Satyanand Tripathi, at gunpoint. In the following season, Beena takes revenge by killing him. Looking back at these contrasting moments, Rasika spoke about the emotional impact of portraying Beenas vulnerable state. What I really like about the writing is that whenever Beena's agency is taken away, she finds her way to a comeback. It was a moving moment for me when Beena locks the door at the end of season one. There was a sense of resignation in doing that. She knew that this day would come one day and she had to go through it. She was raped at gunpoint. I felt shattered to see Beena in a powerless situation. She is always self-assured, in control, but now she's in a powerless situation, Rasika said, revisiting the crucial scene. Rasika also connected Beenas experiences to the larger issue of womens agency in a patriarchal society. The truth about women in a patriarchal society is that when a woman owns a place, people don't like it and they try to take her agency, she added. The actor also addressed online trolling around portrayals of female desire and sexuality. She said she chooses to maintain her own boundaries when it comes to public reactions. Nowadays, it's not about films anymore. Everyone is commenting on everything around. So, if you read everything, you will be confused. I have my own filters. I don't want anything that can affect my decision as an actor, that disturbs my integrity as an actor. I don't want to be doubtful about my choices, said Rasika. Meanwhile, ahead of the films release, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu hosted a gathering for the cast and crew. Rasika recalled how a chef from Lucknow was invited to cook for the team during the celebrations. Theyve had a long relationship with Australia, including filming the original Heyy Babyy here almost 20 years ago, and were really pleased they want to come back. These are big productions that employ a lot of people, from local crews and creatives to businesses on the ground, while putting NSW in front of audiences right across India. Weve got incredible locations, world-class crews and a strong Indian community. We want to make NSW an easy choice for Indian filmmakers looking to shoot their next big production. Australian filmmaker Anupam Sharma, who has previously supported Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainments production plans in Sydney and headed the first shoot of Heyy Babyy, added, Mr. Sajid Nadiadwala and his crew not only brought the biggest ensemble of stars to NSW ever but they also left the fondest memories with their professionalism and respect for the Australian way of working. It is a delight to be working with them again at a time when the Co-production Treaty is providing substantial benefits for Australian - Indian co-productions. The latest announcement builds on Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainments previous filming experience in Australia and comes amid efforts to strengthen production and creative collaborations between the Indian and Australian film industries. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, which has marked 75 years in the entertainment industry, has been involved in film production across generations. Sajid Nadiadwala currently leads the production house and continues to develop projects across different formats and markets. Vishesh Bhatt opens up about Awarapan streaming on Prime Video globally after Awarapan 2 success; says, With time, the film has only grown stronger and is fondly remembered

The success of Emraan Hashmi starrer Awarapan 2 has brought renewed attention to the film that started the franchise. The original Awarapan, co-produced by Vishesh Bhatt, is now streaming globally on Prime Video, allowing audiences to revisit the story of Shivam Pandit and introducing newer viewers to the world that has continued with the recently released sequel. Directed by Mohit Suri, Awarapan featured Emraan Hashmi in the lead role as Shivam Pandit. The film explored themes of love, loss, heartbreak and faith, with Shivams emotional journey forming the central narrative. Over the years, the film has developed a strong following, with its music, characters and dramatic storytelling becoming key parts of its enduring appeal. The decision to bring the original film to Prime Video comes at a time when interest in the franchise has increased following the release of Awarapan 2. While audiences who watched the sequel in theatres can now return to the beginning of Shivam Pandits story, viewers discovering the franchise through its latest instalment also have an opportunity to explore its origins. Vishesh Bhatt, who also serves as the writer-producer of Awarapan 2, spoke about the creation of Shivam Pandit and the response the character and film received over the years. He said, Emraan Hashmi, playing a broken-hearted character, was created first, followed by the title Awarapan. Shivam Pandits emotional journey was beautifully portrayed by Emraan, which was the central theme, and it resonated deeply far beyond the film. Along with it came the love for all the characters, the soulful music and its rich drama. The greatest testament to what Awarapan meant for the audience is that, with time, it has only grown stronger and is fondly remembered. With Awarapan now available to stream globally on Prime Video and Awarapan 2 continuing its theatrical run worldwide, viewers can experience the franchise across both chapters. The streaming availability of the original also provides audiences with an opportunity to revisit the character of Shivam Pandit and the narrative that established the franchise. While Awarapan 2 continues to play in cinemas, the original Awarapan is now streaming globally on Prime Video. India Ke Top 1% set revealed: Inside the grand amphitheatre arena built for 100 contestants in the Anil Kapoor hosted show

Star Plus is set to introduce a large-scale arena for its upcoming quiz-based reality show India Ke Top 1%, hosted by Anil Kapoor. The show will bring 100 contestants from different backgrounds together on an amphitheatre-style set, with technology and visual elements designed to support the format of the competition. The contestants featured on the show will include students, homemakers, shopkeepers, YouTubers, magicians and real estate agents, among others. They will come from both rural and urban parts of India, bringing together participants from varied professions and backgrounds. The set has been designed to allow the action to be captured from multiple angles, with cameras positioned across the arena. The production also features 100 individual tablets through which contestants can participate in the game in either Hindi or English. Large screens around the arena will display the ongoing action and help contestants stay connected with the proceedings. Another feature of the set is the individual status lighting assigned to each contestant. The lighting changes according to their progress in the competition, with colours shifting from blue to red as the game moves forward. A circular LED floor forms another key component of the arena, displaying gameplay graphics and percentage levels as contestants advance towards the Top 1%. According to the makers, the set was constructed within a month with the involvement of hundreds of people. The design process itself involved exploring multiple options over a period of two to three months before the final arena was selected. Speaking about designing Star Plus' India Ke Top 1% set, Varsha Jain shared, Creating the set of India Ke Top 1% has been an incredibly exciting and creatively satisfying experience. To give the show a premium, larger-than-life feel, we explored multiple options for almost two to three months before finalizing this space. It then took us another month, along with the hard work of hundreds of people, to build the entire arena. Every element has been carefully designed and handcrafted down to the finest detail. We wanted the set to feel glossy and futuristic, but also warm, fun and inviting. For me, the individual status lighting, which changes with each contestants journey, and the circular LED floor, which brings the gameplay and percentage levels alive, are the biggest highlights. Despite the scale and technology, the set never feels intimidating, and that balance is what makes it truly special. India Ke Top 1% is scheduled to premiere on September 19 at 8 PM on Star Plus and JioHotstar. The show will see Anil Kapoor interact with the 100 contestants as they compete through the quiz format, with the arena serving as the central setting for the game. Amaal Mallik completes 11 years of O Khuda: From singing debut in Hero to Awarapan 2

Amaal Mallik is marking 11 years since the release of O Khuda, the song that introduced him as a playback singer and added a new dimension to his career as a composer. Released on September 3, 2015, the song featured in Hero and became an important milestone in Malliks musical journey. Mallik had already made his mark as a composer with Jai Ho before making his singing debut. Interestingly, his transition to playback singing came after he recorded a scratch version of O Khuda. Director Nikkhil Advani reportedly responded positively to the version, particularly its youthful quality. After multiple singers were considered for the track, Malliks scratch recording was ultimately retained as the final version. Following O Khuda, Mallik continued to establish himself as both a composer and vocalist in the Hindi film music industry. Over the years, his work has included songs such as Hua Hain Aaj Pehli Baar, Bol Do Na Zara, Besabriyaan, Aashiq Surrender Hua, Gulabi 2.0 and Tere Mere, among other tracks. The 11-year milestone now coincides with Malliks association with Awarapan 2, connecting the singer-composer to another film franchise known for its music and emotional storytelling. Mallik is part of the song Yeh Awarapan, which features Arijit Singh and Mallik. Arijits version has already been released, while Malliks own version is set to arrive soon. The release of his version will offer listeners an opportunity to hear Malliks interpretation of the track following Arijit Singhs rendition. For the musician, the association also marks a connection between different stages of his career from an unexpected scratch recording that led to his singing debut to contributing as an established composer and singer to Awarapan 2. Reflecting on the journey, Amaal Mallik said, When I look back at O Khuda today, I feel incredibly grateful because I had no idea that one song would open such a beautiful chapter in my life. Eleven years later, being part of Awarapan 2 feels very special. Ive grown so much as a musician, and Im really excited for people to hear my version of Yeh Awarapan after Arijits version. With Yeh Awarapan connecting Mallik to the Awarapan franchise, the song also becomes part of a musical journey that began with his first playback recording 11 years ago.
