Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna has reacted to Sharmila Tagores recent comments about Vande Mataram and the possibility of it being considered the national anthem of the country. Speaking to Free Press Journal, Khanna questioned the reasoning behind Tagores remarks and shared his own perspective on religion, faith and the song. Sharmila Tagore, while speaking to IANS about Vande Mataram being considered the national anthem, had pointed out that the song contains religious references that could be difficult for people belonging to certain faiths to accept. She said, My point of view is that there are many religious people who believe in one single God, not many Gods. In 'Vande Mataram', there is a stanza which says that many Gods are mentioned in 'Vande Mataram'. She further said, It is difficult for those who believe in one religion to say, 'Vande Kali, Vande Durga'. Therefore, if we take all the religious people in India together, the first two stanzas are very good. Reacting to her comments, Mukesh Khanna said, She is speaking according to her own understanding. I dont know why she said it. Maybe while explaining her point of view, she ended up saying that people from other religions may not understand or accept it, Khanna then questioned Tagore about her association with Hindu culture and Bengal, referring to her marriage and her use of the name Ayesha Begum. He said, Did you realise only after marriage that Islam also exists? When you became a Begum, did you then realise that Muslims follow a different faith? You became Ayesha Begum for marriage, but today you are speaking as Ayesha Begum. Im surprised that after living your whole life with Hinduism, you have suddenly become concerned about other religions, The actor also referred to Tagores upbringing in Bengal and her exposure to Bengali culture and traditions. He said, You grew up in Bengal, where Kali Puja is celebrated on such a large scale. You have grown up with Bengali culture and Bengali films. Why is it only now that you feel that people from another religion may not accept this? Khanna subsequently elaborated on his own understanding of Hinduism and the concept of God. He said, We have 33 crore devi-devtas, but that does not mean there are 33 crore Gods. There is one God, who is nirakar, without a form. A devotee may see that God in Hanuman, Shiva, Ram or Krishna, Explaining his interpretation further, Khanna added, So they are the avatars of God. They come in every yuga. If God appears before me, perhaps he will appear as Shiva because that is the form I believe in. For someone who believes in Krishna, he may appear as Krishna. The discussion comes amid ongoing conversations around the place and interpretation of Vande Mataram in India. Khannas remarks specifically address Tagores concerns about the songs religious references, while the veteran actor has offered his own perspective on the way different forms of devotion can coexist within his understanding of Hinduism. The film, which brings the three actors together for the first time in a romantic war drama, is now set to enter the post-production stage. Eleven years after Welcome Back hit theatres, the Anees Bazmee comedy is remembered for its madcap humour, colourful characters and larger-than-life chaos. But its anniversary also offers a chance to revisit an underrated aspect of John Abrahams stardom his ability to be genuinely funny. John has long been associated with being a particular kind of Bollywood hero: physically imposing, effortlessly cool and increasingly synonymous with action. Yet, well before becoming one of Hindi cinemas most dependable action stars, he showed that comedy could also be part of his repertoire. In Welcome Back, John played Ajju Bhai and stepped into a world dominated by Uday Shetty, Majnu Bhai and Bazmees trademark madness. Instead of competing with the films louder comic personalities, John largely played it straight. That restraint became part of the humour. It was a quality he had already displayed in Garam Masala. Sharing screen space with Akshay Kumar, Johns straight-faced reactions made the increasingly chaotic situations even funnier. Dostana showcased another side. His easy chemistry with Abhishek Bachchan and his natural charm helped him hold his own without having to dominate every scene. While Desi Boyz took that comic persona further, Housefull 2 placed him comfortably within an ensemble built around confusion and broad humour. In Dishoom, Johns restrained, serious cop persona playing off Varun Dhawans far more energetic character spelt comedy That, perhaps, is the secret of Johns comic timing. He rarely appears to be trying too hard to be funny. Instead, the humour comes from watching the quintessential John Abraham cool, composed and physically imposing being thrown into situations where nothing is under control. His reactions become the punchline. Of course, action has since become a defining part of his screen identity, with films such as Force, Rocky Handsome, Satyameva Jayate, Attack and Pathaan reinforcing that image. At the same time, films like Batla House and Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran have showcased a more grounded performer. But 11 years of Welcome Back is a timely reminder that there is more to John Abraham than just six-pack action. His comic roles remain some of the most rewatchable parts of his filmography proof that sometimes, the coolest guy in the room can also be the funniest.
Saif Ali Khan recently recalled his first experience of sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, admitting that he felt nervous while working with the veteran actor. Saif spoke about their first collaboration, Eklavya: The Royal Guard, during his appearance on the upcoming episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati. The actor, who appeared on the show with Akshay Kumar to promote their upcoming film Haiwaan, remembered being particularly conscious of his dialogues while filming Eklavya. He said Bachchans presence and experience initially made the situation intimidating. I had long dialogues, so I was learning them. The next day, when it was Amit jis scene, he said, Saif, just give me the cue. Then he asked me to say the entire dialogue, and I thought, Thank God I had prepared, Khan recalled. Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Eklavya: The Royal Guard was released in 2007 and featured Saif alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan, Sharmila Tagore and Raima Sen. Saif is now set to share the screen with Akshay Kumar again in Haiwaan. The film marks his first collaboration with director Priyadarshan and is scheduled to release on September 11. Saif plays a visually challenged character in the film, which also marks his reunion with Akshay after 18 years. Akshay Kumar has once again remembered late veteran actor Asrani, recalling his experience of working with the celebrated performer in some of his final films. The two actors shared the screen several times, with Akshay being among the actors who had the opportunity to work with Asrani during the later years of his career. In a recent social media post, Akshay reflected on seeing Asrani deliver what he described as his last-ever shot in Haiwaan. Sharing his memories of the late actor, he wrote, My good fortune that I got to work with this legend and see him give his last ever shot in Haiwaan. Miss you Asrani ji there can be no one like you. The post quickly gained attention, with fans joining Akshay in remembering the veteran actor. Akshay had written, Abhi kabhi ek tasveer sirf yaadon ka tukda nahi hoti ek poori journey ko samet leti hai. He further described their work together, writing, Yeh picture humari Bhooth Bangla ki shoot se hai Asrani ji ke saath meri second last film. Total 12 films humne saath ki, aur har ek mein maine unse kuch naya seekha it was like a masterclass every single time. Remembering Asranis comic talent, Akshay added, Comedy itni aasaan lagti thi jab woh karte the, lekin asal mein woh ek mushkil kala hai. Asrani ji uske ustad the aur hamesha rahenge. He had concluded the tribute by calling Bhooth Bangla not just a film but a memory, tribute and salute to the legendary actor. Meanwhile, Haiwaan also marks Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumars seventh film together. Speaking about their collaboration, Saif recalled their first film, Yeh Dillagi, and said their friendship developed during the shoot. He also revealed that both Priyadarshan and Akshay believed Haiwaan was his best work. Bhuvan Bam has recalled an unusual incident from the early days of his career when a family outing in Delhis Sarojini Nagar took an unexpected turn. The actor and content creator, who rose to popularity through his YouTube channel and segment BB Ki Vines, shared that he was once mistaken for a pickpocket by the police. Bhuvan spoke about the incident at the Global GenZ Summit 2026, recalling how a crowd gathered around him after he stepped out of a car during a family shopping trip. His mother was initially confused by the attention and wondered why so many people had surrounded them. However, the situation soon became more complicated when the police arrived and took Bhuvan away. According to the actor, the police suspected him of being involved in a theft. He believes his appearance at the time, particularly his long hair and bandana, may have contributed to the misunderstanding. Recalling the encounter, Bhuvan said, Waha police wale aaye, wo mujhe collar se pakad ke le gaye, wo bole, 'Tune jeb mari kisi ki?' Maine kaha, 'Maine jeb nahi maari.' Uss time bohot lambe baal hote the aur main bandana pehen ke ghumta tha (Police came and they dragged me by my collar. They asked, 'Did you pick someone's pocket?' I said, I didn't do it.' Back then I used to keep long hair and wear a bandana as well), Bhuvan then tried to explain that he was a YouTuber and showed the police some of his videos to prove his identity. Meanwhile, people gathered outside continued calling out his name, adding to the confusion. The police eventually realised that Bhuvan had no connection to the alleged theft and allowed him to leave. For Bhuvan, however, the incident became a memorable moment for a different reason. While returning home, he looked at his mother through the rearview mirror and noticed that she was smiling. He felt that her reaction reflected her realisation that his unconventional career was beginning to gain recognition, as strangers were now identifying him in public. After establishing BB Ki Vines as a popular online brand, Bhuvan went on to explore acting and other creative projects. He will next be seen in the period drama series The Revolutionaries, which is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 11. Ali Fazal has played his share of intense characters, but Mirzapur: The Movie might just be the film where he finally gets to unleash his full-blown mass-hero side. As Guddu Pandit, Fazal is bigger, more physical and considerably more flamboyant than audiences have seen him before. The transformation was already evident in the trailer, with the actor undergoing an extensive physical makeover for the role. But the real difference is in the way Guddu has been presented on screen. His entry is designed for the whistle-and-seeti crowd, and the moment he takes on Jr Jaiswal is the kind of unabashedly mass sequence that Mirzapur fans are likely to lap up. Fazal doesn't just play the aggression; he seems to be having fun with it. There is also a softer side to Guddu that works surprisingly well. His bond with his mother adds an emotional layer to the otherwise explosive character, giving Fazal room to move beyond the swagger and violence. And then there are the lighter moments particularly the injection scene where his comic timing gets some much-needed space. Interestingly, by the time the film heads towards its climax, Guddu Pandit starts looking less like the character audiences discovered on OTT and more like a traditional Hindi mass hero. The shirtless fight sequence is perhaps the clearest example. There are shades of the Salman Khan template here the larger-than-life physicality, the swagger and the deliberate presentation of the hero as an unstoppable force. And that may be the biggest takeaway from Fazal's performance. Mirzapur: The Movie gives Ali Fazal an opportunity to step outside the more restrained image audiences may have associated with him and embrace the full mass-hero treatment. Whether one sees it as Guddu Pandit evolving or Fazal discovering another side of himself, it certainly makes for a different viewing experience. For an actor who has consistently shown versatility, this could well be his massiest performance to date. More importantly, it might make audiences look at Ali Fazal a little differently from here on.
