From Awarapan 2 To Gunmaaster G9, Emraan Hashmis next act looks interestingly well-timed
There is something quietly smart about Deepak Mukut announcing Gunmaaster G9 for November 2026 just days after Awarapan 2 arrived in theatres and began doing brisk business. The timing could easily have been read as an attempt to capitalise on Emraan Hashmi's renewed theatrical momentum. But the 3-month gap suggests something more measured. Gunmaaster G9 isn't being rushed into theatres to ride the Awarapan 2 wave. It has time to become its own film. And that could be its biggest advantage. Because Awarapan 2 has done something useful for Hashmi: it has reminded audiences that he still works as a theatrical lead. Not as the Emraan Hashmi of the mid-2000s. Not by recreating the serial kisser image or leaning entirely on nostalgia. But as an actor whose screen presence, intensity and familiarity still have value when the material connects. That makes Gunmaaster G9 an intriguing next step. G9 doesn't need to chase Awarapan 2 The biggest mistake the makers could make now would be to treat Gunmaaster G9 as a follow-up to Awarapan 2. It isn't. And the November 2026 release gives the film enough breathing room to establish its own identity. By then, Awarapan 2 will no longer be the film Hashmi has to be measured against. Its performance will simply be another chapter in his career. Gunmaaster G9 can therefore be presented on its own merits as an action entertainer with Hashmi at the centre rather than as the next instalment in a so-called comeback narrative. That distinction matters. Audiences are quick to sense when a film is being sold on momentum alone. They are equally quick to move on. G9 has the opportunity to avoid that trap. Why the November 2026 date makes sense An action film needs time, particularly when scale and production value are part of the proposition. The extended runway allows Mukut and the team to get the film right rather than simply get it out. It also creates a useful distance from Awarapan 2. Instead of having Hashmi appear on screen again while audiences are still processing his previous performance, G9 can arrive after anticipation has had time to rebuild. There is another advantage: the film can create its own marketing narrative. Hashmi's presence is an asset, but it doesn't have to be the entire campaign. The action, scale, supporting cast and world of Gunmaaster G9 can gradually become the selling points. That is a healthier way to build a theatrical film. And then there is Emraan Hashmi The renewed interest in Hashmi is perhaps less about a comeback and more about rediscovery. He has never really disappeared. He has continued to work across films and streaming, taking on protagonists, supporting parts and antagonistic roles. What has become less frequent is seeing him positioned as the primary theatrical draw. Awarapan 2 has changed that conversation. His performance has been among the elements audiences have responded to, reaffirming that the qualities that made Hashmi distinctive vulnerability, intensity and an understated screen presence haven't disappeared with age. In fact, they may work differently now. Hashmi doesn't need to compete with younger actors on their terms. He has reached a stage where his lived-in quality can actually become part of his appeal. And Gunmaaster G9, with its action-oriented positioning, gives him a genre in which that maturity could work particularly well. The real test begins with G9 It is tempting to call Awarapan 2 a comeback. But perhaps comeback is too simplistic. One successful film doesn't restore an actor to a particular position in the industry. What it does is reopen possibilities. Gunmaaster G9 is one of those possibilities. The film will arrive without the built-in advantage of an Awarapan legacy. There won't be the same nostalgia to lean on. There won't be the immediate afterglow of Awarapan 2. It will have to create its own reason for audiences to buy a ticket. That makes its November 2026 release all the more interesting. If G9 works, the conversation around Hashmi changes from Emraan is still relevant to something far more meaningful: Emraan has found another theatrical lane. That is the opportunity sitting in front of Mukut, Hashmi and the G9 team. No need for a comeback story Perhaps the most encouraging thing about Gunmaaster G9 is that nobody needs to sell it as Emraan Hashmi's grand comeback. He doesn't need one. He needs a strong character, a compelling film and the right theatrical positioning. Awarapan 2 has reminded audiences that they are willing to watch him. Now Gunmaaster G9 has the time and, importantly, the distance to give them a completely new reason to do so. For a film announced more than a year ahead of its release, that may actually be the smartest part of the strategy. Seema Sajdeh has opened up about her life after divorce from Sohail Khan, her approach to relationships and her experience of watching her former husband navigate the reality show Alliance. In a candid conversation with Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi on their podcast Double Date, Seema also spoke about cosmetic treatments and how her perspective on self-care and companionship has evolved over time. During the conversation, Seema spoke openly about undergoing cosmetic treatments, including fillers, Botox and Profhilo. She also revealed that she has opted for laser treatments as part of her skincare routine. Seema said she is now more selective about these treatments and chooses to undergo them only when she feels the need. Seema also discussed Sohail Khans experience on Alliance, saying that she felt the reality show was more challenging for him than it was for her. According to her, Sohail generally gets along with people but is not particularly inclined towards extensive conversations. She described him as someone who prefers familiar surroundings and explained that being away from his usual environment made the experience difficult. He likes his comfort zone, Seema explained. She further described Sohail as a creature of habit and routine and said that as the show progressed, he began missing his family, home and children. According to Seema, her presence on the show also gave him a sense of familiarity as he navigated an unfamiliar environment. Seema recalled an emotional moment surrounding her exit from Alliance, revealing that Sohail broke down when she was leaving the show. She said he told her, Why are you going, let me go instead, indicating how difficult the situation had become for him. The conversation also touched upon Seemas life after her divorce and her current approach to relationships. She admitted that she has become comfortable with her own company and that, after a long day, she often looks forward to returning home to her dogs. Im very happy by myself, Seema said. While she is comfortable being single, Seema Sajdeh clarified that she is not completely closed off to the possibility of a relationship in the future. She said she remains open to Companionship and would like to have someone with whom she could travel, enjoy good food and explore new places. At the same time, Seema Sajdeh stressed that companionship is not something she considers essential for her happiness. Her comments reflected an approach in which a relationship would be a choice rather than a necessity, as she continues to prioritise her independence and comfort with her own identity. Seemas conversation on Double Date touched upon several personal aspects of her life, from her approach to beauty and ageing to her equation with Sohail Khan and her thoughts on finding companionship after divorce. Divya Dutta and Jimmy Shergill team up for Prem Prakash Modis intense family drama Tum Rahe Na Tum
Divya Dutta and Jimmy Shergill are set to share the screen in the upcoming psychological relationship drama Tum Rahe Na Tum, directed by Prem Prakash Modi. The film promises to explore the complexities of family relationships and the emotional tensions that can emerge within them. Produced by Vinni Chawla and Sonu Katyal under the banner Fanatically Filmi Pvt. Ltd., the film is an adaptation of Swedish playwright August Strindbergs acclaimed play The Father. The story brings the emotional and psychological themes of the original work into an Indian family setting, focusing on love, control, insecurity, parental expectations, toxic masculinity and ego. Tum Rahe Na Tum is an intimate exploration of relationships and the emotional spaces people inhabit within a family. I wanted to look at what happens when love, expectations, insecurity, ego and ideas of masculinity begin to affect the way people see each other. The film is rooted in a very Indian family setting, but the emotions are universal. Said director Prem Prakash Modi. Talking about the lead actors, Modi praised their ability to bring depth and authenticity to their respective characters. Jimmy Shergill has a rare ability to make a complex character feel deeply real which made him perfect for the role. Divya Dutta, on the other hand, brings an incredible ability to portray strength, vulnerability and complexity at the same time. I felt that the combination of Jimmy and Divya would bring exactly the kind of layered, lived-in relationship that the film demands. Both Jimmy and Divya are stepping into characters and emotional spaces that audiences havent seen them explore before. Divya Dutta also spoke about what drew her to the project. What attracted me to the film was that nobody in this family is completely innocent or completely guilty. It is a very human, uncomfortable and layered story, and that complexity is what made the film particularly compelling for me, she said. Jimmy Shergill added, Tum Rahe Na Tum immediately drew me in because of how deeply human and emotionally complex it is. It is the kind of story that makes you question what you see, what you believe and how people can experience the same relationship very differently, The film also features Harsh Chhaya, Zarina Wahab and Rajesh Jais in important roles, adding to its ensemble cast. With its focus on complicated family dynamics and psychological conflict, Tum Rahe Na Tum aims to present a layered and emotionally intense story. Gurinder Chadha's Bend It Like Beckham (2002) celebrated its 24th anniversary on July 12. The UK production featured a predominantly Indian cast, along with Keira Knightley and Jonathan Rhys Meyers in prominent roles. Made on a modest budget of just $5.6 million, the film went on to gross a remarkable $92.2 million worldwide. Bend It Like Beckham also achieved a rare distinction it was screened in North Korea. During the promotions of her film Christmas Karma (2025), Gurinder Chadha told Mid-Day's Mayank Shekhar, Bend It Like Beckham remains the only film in the history of cinema to have been distributed in every country of the world, including North Korea! Bend It Like Beckham was first screened in North Korea at the 9th Pyongyang International Film Festival in 2004. Festival organizer Nicholas Bonner wrote his first-hand account of the screening of the film. He wrote, If a film is popular, it soon sells out. Which is exactly what happened with Bend It Like Beckham. The film was a hit! It screened at 3 cinemas for 4 days and reached an audience of 12,000. An astonishing number in such a short time. Then, on December 26, 2010, the film made history by airing nationwide on North Korean state television (Korean Central Television). Nick Bonner, the man behind Beijing-based Koryo Tours, said, This is the first Western film broadcast throughout the whole of North Korea. The broadcast was negotiated by the British Embassy in Pyongyang, led by Ambassador Peter Hughes, to commemorate 10 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and the DPRK. However, as per reports, the 112-minute-long film was heavily censored and trimmed to just an hour for its North Korean broadcast. As per an article in Mail & Guardian, Although Bend It like Beckham is about a sport beloved among North Koreans, the film also tackles taboo topics, including interracial relationships, homosexuality and religion. Bend It Like Beckham is about a soccer-mad teenage girl in London who revolts against her traditional Punjabi family by idolizing David Beckham and playing football in a local all-female team. It also starred Parminder Nagra, Anupam Kher, Zohra Sehgal and others.
UNICEF India National Ambassador Ayushmann Khurrana visited Jalna in Maharashtra to interact with children, families and community members as part of a UNICEF-supported Kinship and Community Care programme aimed at protecting children affected by seasonal migration. The programme focuses on strengthening family- and community-based care while helping children remain connected to education, healthcare, nutrition and psychosocial support. Khurrana was accompanied by UNICEF India Representative a.i. Jesper Moller, along with government and NGO partners supporting the initiative. During his visit, the actor met children and adolescents and learnt about the challenges faced by families dealing with distress-driven seasonal migration. For many marginalised families, seasonal migration can increase children's vulnerability to child labour, child marriage, disrupted education, neglect and violence. Children who remain behind with grandparents or extended family may continue attending school and accessing essential services, but can also experience emotional distress, limited supervision and increased household responsibilities. The Kinship and Community Care programme in Jalna, implemented with the District Administration and NGO partners, seeks to create a stronger safety net around such children. By bringing together Gram Panchayats and frontline service providers, the initiative helps connect children and families with education, healthcare, nutrition and psychosocial support while reducing the risks of child labour and child marriage. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) Speaking after his interactions with children and community members, Khurrana said, Seasonal distress driven migration is not a choice. It is the stark reality for many families, said Ayushmann Khurrana, after meeting children and community members No child should have to lose their childhood because of circumstances beyond their control. In Jalna, I saw communities coming together to protect children affected by migration and keep them connected to family, care and support. Kinship care does more than provide a safe home. It preserves relationships, restores confidence and gives children hope for a better future. Khurrana also met young community leaders, including Shankar Asaram, whose work as a youth volunteer earned him community trust and led to his election as village Sarpanch. He further interacted with Pratiksha, a Class 12 student and a Balmitra who has witnessed the impact of migration on adolescent girls. Balmitras serve as trusted role models within their communities, supporting children's rights, safety and wellbeing. Their work encourages children to remain in school and helps prevent child labour and child marriage. India has strong laws to protect children, including the Juvenile Justice Act, which completes 10 years this year. What matters now is to make sure that these protective measures are felt by every child and family, including those living with the challenges of seasonal migration, said Ayushmann Khurrana. During the visit, Khurrana also met adolescent girls, children and families to understand how the programme operates at the village level. Reflecting on his interaction with the girls, he said, I met 18-year-old Shilpa, who once migrated with her family. Today, she completed school and joined a vocational course that hopefully can help her break the intergenerational cycle of seasonal migration. Girls' dreams can be fulfilled when children grow up educated, healthy and safe. Khurrana also met a family providing kinship care to two young grandchildren while their father migrates for seasonal work. With support from Balmitras and the wider community, the children continue attending school and receiving nutrition and immunization services. Reflecting on his visit, Khurrana said, Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving and nurturing family environment. While the government provides legislations and schemes to protect children, I am proud to see UNICEF, the Government of Maharashtra, the district administration and village communities coming together so every child is safe and cared for. Jesper Moller, UNICEF India Representative a.i., said, UNICEF is proud to support the Jalna District Administration in providing a safe and nurturing environment for the most vulnerable children. Violence against children is preventable. As the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 marks 10 years, we must strengthen last-mile systems to identify risks early and connect families to essential services and social protection. UNICEF greatly appreciates Ayushmann Khurrana for lending his voice and influence to this important cause and championing every child's right to safety and care.
