Kerala Assembly rejects adjournment motion over attacks on CPI(M), Cong offices

Politics The opposition staged a walkout in the Assembly over CM Pinarayi Vijayans refusal to address alleged police inaction in the attacks, the Congress said. PTI Kerala Assembly The Kerala Assembly on Monday, July 4, rejected the adjournment motion moved by the UDF (United Democratic Front), alleging police inaction and failure in connection with the attack on CPI(M)'s state headquarters AKG Centre, as well as several Congress offices across the state. Upon the CPI(M)s decision to reject the motion, the opposition staged a walkout from the House. Earlier in the day, speaker MB Rajesh said that the adjournment motion would be discussed for two hours starting from 1 pm. Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly VD Satheesan contended that the issues raised by the UDF, regarding lack of police action in apprehending the culprits behind the attacks on offices of both parties, have not been answered or addressed by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and therefore, they staged a walkout in protest. The walkout was staged by the opposition after Speaker MB Rajesh declared that the adjournment motion, moved by Congress MLA PC Vishnunadh, was rejected. It was rejected by a show of hands after the CM's response to the opposition's allegations concluded. Meanwhile, CM Pinarayi commenced his response with the question, Why was the opposition and specifically the Congress not willing to condemn the attack on AKG Centre or any other such acts of violence, whosoever was behind it?. The same was instantly countered by Satheesan, who said that the very next morning after the AKG Centre was attacked, the first statement he gave was that he strongly condemned what happened. Other senior Congress leaders too had condemned the incident, he added. Further, the CM, in his response, also said that the attack on the CPI(M) state headquarters was a planned one and those behind it would have hidden the culprits, making it difficult to catch them. However, the culprits would be caught eventually and there has been no laxity on the part of the police in its investigation and examination of CCTV footage of the area. The government will examine whether there was any failure or laxity on the part of the police personnel stationed outside AKG Centre, he contended. The CM's statements came in response to the oppositions queries as to why the culprits behind the AKG Centre were not caught yet, why the police on duty did not chase the attacker, and why no wireless message was sent across the city to nab the perpetrator of the attack. Satheesan said that after the vandalism of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad office, a police jeep was present outside the AKG Centre gate where the explosive was thrown at all times till June 29, but was absent on the night of June 30 when the attack occurred. Why was this?, he questioned. Other opposition MLAs, who also spoke during the discussion, claimed that the Congress was being unnecessarily blamed for the attack, and that the incident has been politicised by the CPI(M). The opposition also alleged that the attack on AKG Centre was a ploy to divert attention from the allegations against the state government and the CM. Several LDF MLAs spoke, rejecting the allegations and accused the Congress of having a violent political past and of not having changed its methodology even now. CM Pinarayi also said that accusing CPI(M) of carrying out the attack on its state headquarters was uncalled for. He also dismissed as false the news reports that SDPI members visited the AKG Centre. The CM said that some persons belonging to SDPI had come to AKG Centre on July 1 to meet CPI(M) leaders but were turned away as the party does not want to have any kind of meetings with such an organisation. He said that Congress and UDF should desist from allegedly creating a riot-like environment in the state. Earlier in the day, Vijayan had agreed to discuss the adjournment motion saying it needs to be debated in the House as the attack on AKG Centre was viewed with pain by lakhs of people. An unidentified person had allegedly hurled an explosive substance at the state headquarters of the ruling CPI(M) on June 30 night. However, police are yet to identify the perpetrator. While the CPI(M) blamed the Congress, the latter rejected the allegation. The opposition party also alleged that their party offices were targeted by the Left cadres across the state including in the districts of Kottayam, Alappuzha and Thrissur.

Give us autonomy, dont push TN to revive separate state demand: DMKs A Raja

Politics The MP was speaking in a meeting for local body representatives held in Namakkal, where he spoke about the revival of demand for separate nation. TNM Staff File Photo | Facebook/A Raja Do not push us to demand for a separate nation, DMK MP A Raja said to the Union government, while speaking in a meeting held at Namakkal, on Sunday, July 3. Demand for a separate nation - Dravida Nadu - was a long standing demand of the party supremos Periyar and Anna. However, it was dropped in 1962 after secession was deemed illegal by the then Jawaharlal Nehru-led government. While the demand for federalism has been put forth frequently by the DMK party, it is this meeting that has stirred up the Dravida Nadu topic again. Raja was speaking in a meeting held for DMK local body representatives in Namakkal titled Mathiyil Kootatchi, Maanilathil Suyatchi (roughly meaning federalism at the Centre, and autonomy for states). This was the idea of former CM M Karunanidhi, which has stuck with the party till date. Raja recalled the history behind the emergence of the concept and traced its way back to the split of Pakistan. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Hindi should be the only common language in India and Hindi is needed to unite the country. Will a language unite the country?, he asked. Soon after Pakistan was born, the nations father Jinnah went to Dacca - in East Pakistan - and was speaking in Urdu, when a young boy stood up and said they knew Bangla, and not Urdu. Despite this, he continued to speak in Urdu that led to the split of Pakistan, he points out. The MP further said that naming India as a Union of States was a difficult task for Dr BR Ambedkar, because the then ruling Congress was not willing to even accept the phrase. He also quoted Ambedkars statement that the word Bharatham was inculcated into the Constitution by force, without my willing. Pointing out that the Constitution provides three lists of powers - Union, state and concurrent, Raja says that the Union government has the most powers. When Kalaignar wanted to install a statue of King Raja Raja Cholan in Thanjavur temple, he couldnt do that because the temple was under the control of archeology, which was controlled by the Union government, he says and adds that while initially the demand of Dravida Naadu was put forth, the then CM Anna had to drop it in 1962 due to the law brought in to curb the demand for secession. Speaking about it in parliament Anna said that he knew it was brought to control the demand of Tamil Nadu and added, It is a painful backlash to bring a law to curtail our rights, not in an antagonist manner but protagonist manner, he recalls. Further stating that states dont even have small rights, even after talking and writing so much about it, he sought the Prime Minister and the Home Minister not to force to start demanding a separate state. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi says all states are to be seen the same, and the Home Minister Amit Shah says if you want unity, learn Hindi. The partys founding father Periyar, till death, demanded for a separate state. But we (DMK) kept aside that demand for our democracy and national integrity. So, I am saying this with the utmost humility possible. Our CM is traveling in Annas path so far, do not push us into following Periyars path. Do not make us revive our demand for a separate state. Give us state autonomy, he said. Further, according to reports, the Chief Minister MK Stalin, speaking at the meeting had warned the elected local body representatives that they will surely face severe repercussions, if they do anything that might disrepute the DMK government or the CM.

'Agnipath' scheme: SC to examine next week pleas..

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to list petitions against the Central government's Agnipath initiative to induct youth into the three armed services divisions next week, subject to the Chief Justice's assent. Before a vacation bench made up of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Indira Banerjee, a lawyer raised the petition. The attorney for the potential members of the armed services requested an urgent hearing and stated that the scheme shouldn't be applied to individuals who are already going through the selection process. She added that the situation required immediate attention because several aspirants' careers were on the line, and she highlighted the fact that if the plan is implemented, the aspirants' tenure will be reduced from 20 years to 4 years. The attorney claimed that despite numerous mentions, the register had not provided a specific date and he pleaded with the top court to do so. Advocate M.L. Sharma brought up his petition asking the Supreme Court to order the Ministry of Defense to revoke the notification it had issued on June 14, 2022, announcing the programme. The government can implement any programme, but it all comes down to right and wrong, he said. More than 70,000 people are still waiting for appointment letters, he added. Kerala Assembly to discuss adjournment motion over attacks on CPI(M), Cong offices

Assembly The CPI(M) had alleged that the Congress was behind the explosives attack at AKG Centre, the partys headquarters, while the Congress has denied any involvement. PTI Representative image of Kerala Assembly The Kerala Assembly on Monday, July 4, decided to discuss an adjournment motion moved by the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) over the attack on the AKG centre, the CPI(M)'s state headquarters, as well as several Congress offices across the state and the alleged lack of police action in these matters. Speaker MB Rajesh said the adjournment motion would be discussed for two hours starting from 1 pm, after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan agreed that the issue raised by the opposition requires a discussion. CM Pinarayi Vijayan said the attack on AKG Centre was viewed with pain by lakhs of people and therefore, it can be discussed in the House. An unidentified person had allegedly hurled an explosive substance at the state headquarters of the ruling CPI(M) on June 30 night. However, police are yet to identify the perpetrator. CCTV visuals released by the CPI(M) through the official media group of the AKG Centre showed a man reaching the spot on a motorbike and hurling the omb at the building and fleeing the spot. The explosive allegedly hit the stone wall of the AKG Centre. The CPI(M) suspects the role of Congress in the incident, as it comes weeks after Congress MP Rahul Gandhis office was vandalised in Wayanad, allegedly by members of the Students Federation of India (SFI). Meanwhile, many state ministers, including Finance Minister KN Balagopal and Education Minister V Sivankutty, rushed to the spot once news of the explosive attack emerged. Several workers of the CPI(M) took out a protest march in the city. Protests were also seen in Pathanamthitta and other parts of the state. As the tense situation prevailed, the police tightened security around offices of the Congress in the state. The Congress has hit back, saying that it categorically rejects the ruling CPI(M)'s allegation that the former was behind the attack on its headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. The Congress party has said that it is not its policy to target its political opponent's office. The opposition party also alleged that their party offices were targeted by the Left cadres across the state including in the districts of Kottayam, Alappuzha, Thrissur.

Google to remove abortion clinic visits from users' location records

Change results from US Supreme Court's decision to reverse Roe, but makes no mention of Search and YouTube histories Google stated on Friday that it will erase users' location data when they visit abortion clinics, domestic violence shelters, or other such facilities where privacy is especially important. In a blog post , Jen Fitzpatrick, a senior vice president at Google, said that the company would make an effort to delete such places from users' location records soon after they visit such places. Protecting our users' privacy and securing their data is core to Google's work, Fitzpatrick noted. Some of the places people visit including medical facilities like counselling centres, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, fertility centres, addiction treatment facilities, weight loss clinics, cosmetic surgery clinics, and others can be particularly personal. She continued: If our systems identify that someone has visited one of these places, we will delete these entries from Location History soon after they visit. According to Fitzpatrick, the change will take effect in the coming weeks. However, she did not disclose how the firm would detect such visits or whether all data associated with such visits would be removed from its servers. This change is occurring as a direct result of the US Supreme Court's decision to reverse Roe v. Wade, which deprives women in the United States of their guaranteed constitutional right to access abortion services. The decision has prompted large demonstrations all throughout the country and led to the banning or severely restricting of the procedure in a dozen different states across the US. Since the verdict, Google and other tech firms have, for the most part, been mute regarding the manner in which they will respond to demands for data about users in investigations pertaining to abortion. Privacy experts have expressed concerns that the large volumes of data gathered by Google and other platforms might be used inappropriately by government agencies and anti-abortion groups. Even before the verdict was made public, lawmakers demanded that Google take precautions to safeguard the personal information of people who use the internet to look for medical assistance. In May, a group of 42 Democratic members of Congress urged Google CEO Sundar Pichai to cease collecting and storing unnecessary or non-aggregated location data that might be used by far-right extremists and prosecutors to identify and target people who've had abortions. Last month, a group of US politicians urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to examine Apple and Google for collecting and selling customer's personal data without their consent. In her blog post on Friday, Fitzpatrick reaffirmed the policies that Google already has in place, such as the practice of informing users when their data has been requested by government agencies. She also highlighted Google's transparency reports that keep track of such requests. Google has a long track record of pushing back on overly broad demands from law enforcement, including objecting to some demands entirely, she wrote. Fitzpatrick's post didn't address the question of how the company would react to any inquiries from law authorities. Instead, the company said it would continue to oppose demands that are overly broad or otherwise legally objectionable. In addition, Google said that Fitbit will be updating its app in order to provide users with the ability to erase their menstruation tracking information in bulk from the service. While the purpose of all these privacy changes is to remove some data from Google's servers that may be used to prosecute individuals for seeking care, the company continues to store a lot of other information about users' activities. Privacy experts say Search and YouTube histories could still be used as evidence in investigations, but Google's post makes no mention of these potential sources of evidence.

Eknath Shinde govt to seek 'vote of confidence' today

MUMBAI: A day after winning its first significant legislative battle to secure the Speaker's position in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed government of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will seek the crucial vote of confidence in the House, which is scheduled to take place here on Monday. The Shinde-led government, which was sworn in on June 30 following the fall of the 31-month-old Maha Vikas Aghadi dictatorship, will get a vote of confidence on the second day of the two-day Special Session of the Assembly, which Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari called on July 3-4. With 166 MLAs on its side, including the BJP, the Shiv Sena's rebel group that broke away on June 20, and independent legislators from smaller parties, the ruling alliance has expressed confidence that it will easily win the House's trust. This number is enough to surpass the midway point of 145. (in the 288-member Lower House). When BJP candidate and first-time legislator Rahul Narwekar was easily elected as Speaker of the House on Sunday, the government passed its first litmus test. While Rajan Salvi, the MVA candidate, received only 107 of the 171 votes cast in the 288-member assembly, Narwekar, 45, received 164 votes. After the Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party, and Congress MVA government under Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took office, Nana Patole, a representative of the Congress, was elected as the final Speaker. She was elected in late 2019 after the election. However, Patole resigned from the position in February 2021 after being elected as the state Congress President, and Narhari Zirwal, the NCP's deputy speaker, has been in office ever since. Rallies, road blockades & black balloons: Modis presence met with protests in Hyd

Politics Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Hyderabad for two days as part of the BJPs national executive meeting, where several crucial resolutions have been taken by the party. Charan Teja MRPS activists stage a protest at Hitex Demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi keep the promise he made during the 2014 elections to initiate steps for classification of Scheduled Castes (SC) in the state, the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) took out a rally at Indira Park in Hyderabad on Sunday, July 3. The protesters also attempted to stage a sadak bandh (road blockade) protest at Hitex, where the BJPs national executive meeting was underway in the presence of Modi and other national-level party leaders. Several MRPS activists were detained in the wake of the protest. MRPS founder president Manda Krishna Madiga had said on Friday that such a protest would be staged, if the Union government failed to initiate steps for classification of SCs in the state before the BJPs mega meet. MRPS activists get detained amid protests in Hyderabad Modi has arrived in Telangana for two days as part of the BJPs national executive meeting, where several crucial resolutions have been taken by the party. While the presence of Modi and other top leaders has boosted the political morale of BJPs state leadership and cadre, it has been met with taunts and criticism from Opposition parties including the TRS and Congress. Workers of the Congress party also held a march from Gandhi Bhavan to the BJP office on Sunday, releasing black balloons into the air and raising slogans against the PM. In the afternoon, hours ahead of Modi's scheduled address at the Parade Ground of Secunderabad amid tight security, Congress workers tried to stage a protest march to the Telangana BJP office over Modi's alleged anti-Telangana remarks. The protesters, however, were stopped on their way. Amid police resistance, the party leaders, led by Chairman of Fishermen Congress of Telangana Mettu Sai Kumar, released black balloons into the air. Videos of the protest showed Congressmen shouting Modi Down Down and Modi Go Back among other slogans while releasing the balloons. Alleging that the PM has mocked the formation of Telangana state on the floor of Parliament, Sai Kumar demanded that Modi should seek apology from the four crore people in Telangana. The shameless BJP leaders in Telangana are praising him now. But when Telangana was fighting to receive the status of a separate state under the Constitution, BJP had not even played a minor role in that struggle, he said. Earlier, Modi had reportedly said that the Telangana state was created without holding any discussion, at a time when the Parliament doors were closed. For a while now, the TRS and the BJP have been engaging in turf wars to occupy public spaces to showcase their strength in the form of advertisements hoardings, with the latter alleging that TRS has occupied all metro and public spaces in a bid to invisibilise their event. Several posters and flex boards parodying Money Heist, a popular Netflix series, to mock Modi had mushroomed in public places. The boards were purportedly installed by the TRS cadre. Whats happening in Hyderabad? Looks like #ModiHeist much bigger than #MoneyHeist#Hyderabad pic.twitter.com/9bPg2aIctC YSR (@ysathishreddy) July 2, 2022 The bizarre flexes drew ire from BJP functionaries, who slammed the TRS for hitting a low. However, the TRS has justified its actions with the claim that it was running a mass rally in support of presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. It also alleged that the meme and poster wars were first started by the BJP. Watch: How ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan was exonerated in the ISRO spy case

Supreme Court verdict on PM Modi clean chit historic: Amit Shah at BJP national executive meeting

The Home Minister claimed that the Congress has become a party of family, with many of its members fighting for democracy within the party

The Hindu 3 Jul 2022 4:07 pm

'Modi has digested all poison like Lord Shiva,' said Shah at national executive meeting

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at the party's national executive meeting in Hyderabad that the next 30 to 40 years will be the time of the BJP and due to this, India will become a Vishwa guru. Shah said that dynasty, casteism and appeasement were a big curse for the politics of this country, which was the cause of the country's suffering. Shah said the BJP will end family rule in states like Telangana and West Bengal and will also come to power in other states including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. The BJP, which has been in power at the Centre since 2014, is out of power in these states. Amit Shah recently described as historic the Supreme Court's verdict rejecting the petition of Zakia Jafri, wife of late MP Ehsan Jafri. The petition had challenged the Special Investigation Team's (SIT)'s clean chit to 64 persons, including the then CM Narendra Modi, in the 2002 Gujarat riots case. Shah said Modi faced an SIT probe into his alleged role in the riots and maintained his faith in the Constitution. At the same time, Amit Shah said that Modi digested all the poison thrown on him like Lord Shiva. Amit Shah claimed that Congress has become a party of the family, many of whose members are fighting for democracy within the party. He said the Gandhi family is not allowing internal organisational elections to take place as it fears losing control over the party. He said that the Opposition is dissatisfied and the Government has been opposing whatever good it does. We will capture south states: Amit Shah at BJP meeting in Hyderabad

Politics One of the crucial subjects discussed while passing the political resolution was the recent Supreme Court verdict, which gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots case. Balakrishna Ganeshan File Photo of Amit Shah/PTI Asserting that the BJP has captured and strengthened its position in the north eastern states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, July 3 said that its next focus would be on the southern non-BJP states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and even Orissa and West Bengal. Speaking on the second day of the partys National Executive Meeting being held in Hyderabad, the Home Minister said that the BJP will soon put an end to the dynasty politics of the TRS and the Trinamool Congress in Telangana and West Bengal respectively and come to power, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who briefed the media about the political resolution passed by Shah. The resolution was seconded by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Biswa. Referring to the partys recent victory in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, Shah said that the BJP had ended politics based on caste, dynasty politics and appeasement politics. The politics is now spoken on the lines of performance, development and prosperity, Biswa quoted Shah as saying. Shah further reportedly asserted that the BJP would remain in power for the next 30 years. One of the crucial subjects discussed while passing the political resolution was the recent Supreme Court verdict, which gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots case based on the Special Investigation Team probe. Shah said that the verdict was historic and exposed the alleged conspiracy by certain sections of the media opposed to the ideology of the BJP, NGOs and the Opposition parties who had allegedly colluded against Modi. Presently, two persons activist Teesta Setalvad and former Gujarat police intelligence chief RB Sreekumar have been arrested for allegedly fabricating evidence against Modi in the case. Eulogising Modi, Shah said that for 20 years the Prime Minister struggled like Lord Shiva, who drank poison, and faced insults by appearing before the SIT. He didnt enact any drama while appearing before the SIT, unlike others (referring to Rahul Gandhi) facing law enforcement agencies, Shah reportedly said in the meeting. In the meeting, PM Modi while being thankful for the opportunity to endorse the candidature of President Ramnath Kovind who belongs to a Dalit community and now Draupadi Murmu who belongs to the Adivasi community, as the President, urged the party members to widely publicise the stories of her background and humble beginnings, Biswa said. Though it is a poll process involving the electoral college, Murmus story should be brought into the limelight, the PM reportedly said. Shah said that the BJP would soon form the government in both Telangana and West Bengal.

The 6 January hearings already confirm a plan for insurrection and recall the civil war and its lost cause aftermath Im from a part of the country where people justify the actions of slavery, Ku Klux Klan, and lynching. Im reminded of that dark history as I hear voices today try and justify the actions of the insurrectionists of 6 January 2021, declared congressman Bennie Thompson, chairman of the select committee, as he opened the 6 January hearings last month. That drop of American history was quickly lost in the cloudburst to come, the extraordinary revelations culminating last week in the testimony of Cassidy Hutchinson , former aide to Trumps chief of staff, Mark Meadows. But Thompson opened proceedings with that reminder for a very good reason: because the 6 January insurrection did not merely resemble the dark history of the civil war and its aftermath, it continued it. Some people are trying to deny what happened, Thompson added. To whitewash it. To turn the insurrectionists into martyrs. But the whole world saw the reality of what happened on January 6th. The hangmans gallows sitting out there on our National Mall. The flag of that first failed and disgraced rebellion against our union, being paraded through the Capitol. Continue reading...

BJP's Rajyavardhan Rathore, news anchor booked over misleading Rahul Gandhi video

Controversy After a video of Rahul Gandhi speaking about the vandalisation of his Wayanad office was doctored to make it seem like it was a comment on the murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, the news channel apologised, calling it a human error. PTI PTI TV news anchor Rohit Ranjan, BJP national spokesperson Rajyavardhan Rathore and others have been booked by Jaipur police for allegedly spreading falsehood by sharing a doctored video of Rahul Gandhi. The FIR was registered on a complaint lodged by local Congress leader Ram Singh at the Banpark police station. The complainant alleged that Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan in his show aired a statement of Gandhi on the SFI (Student Federation of India) violence on his Wayanad office and mischievously doctored it to make it seem like it was a comment on the heinous murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur. The video under scanner is that of Rahul Gandhis conversation with mediapersons in his Wayanad office, on Friday, July 1. Speaking of the vandalisation of his Wayanad office allegedly by members of SFI, Rahul Gandhi said that they were children and it need not be made into a big deal. However, the video was doctored and reported as if the comment was made regarding the Udaipur killing. The complainant claimed that the video was doctores by the media group in conspiracy with former Union Minister Rathore, Major Surendra Poonia (retired) and Kamlesh Saini, who also shared the clip on Twitter to reap political advantage and trigger public sentiments. The anchor and the promoters of the TV channel were clearly aware that what Gandhi stated was for the youngsters in Wayanad and not the killers of Kanhaiya Lal, the complainant said in the FIR. An FIR has been registered under IPC (Indian Penal Code) sections 504 (intentional insult), 505 (criminal intimidation), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, etc.), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Gehlot criticised the channel for running the incorrect report. Gandhi had said that the children who did this (vandalised his office in Wayanad) they've acted in an irresponsible way. They are kids, forgive them. But the TV channel and the anchor ran that Rahul Gandhi was saying those who killed Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur were kids and should be forgiven, Gehlot said, while speaking at a meeting. The channel later issued an apology, with anchor Rohit Ranjan saying, Yesterday, in our show DNA, Rahul Gandhi's statement was taken in the wrong context by linking it to the Udaipur incident, it was a human error for which our team apologises. Zee News tendered an apology on its prime time show for showing a doctored video of our leader @RahulGandhi .These fake news peddlers should be taken to task. Well done @Jairam_Ramesh ji. pic.twitter.com/IDuvevAlb9 Jothimani (@jothims) July 3, 2022 Meanwhile, in a letter to BJP chief JP Nadda, Congress general secretary in-charge communication Jairam Ramesh said he was appalled to note that several BJP leaders have been deliberately and enthusiastically sharing mischievous reportage that occurred on Zee News at 9 pm yesterday. In his letter to Nadda, Ramesh said that the original video was of Gandhi's comment on the SFI violence on his Wayanad office but it was deliberately and mischievously doctored to appear as if it was a comment on the heinous murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur. It was immediately brought to the attention of all concerned that the reportage was false and deliberately misleading, he said. What is of even greater concern, is that several of your party colleagues, including Rajyavardhan Rathore, MP, Subrat Pathak MP, Kamlesh Saini, MLA and others, have enthusiastically and without verification published and shared the deliberately fabricated and distorted reportage, Ramesh said in his letter.Despite being cautioned by my party colleagues that the clip was maliciously false and misleading, Rathore persisted with amplifying the same, first deleting and then re-uploading the same, he said. This leaves no doubt that Rathore's actions were deliberate and part of your party's strategy to defame the former Congress president, the party and to further polarise an already sensitive, communal situation, Ramesh alleged. The fact that some of your colleagues may have deleted the false reportage later after uploading and sharing is no excuse whatsoever because the damage has already been inflicted. We have already initiated appropriate legal action against the original broadcaster. We expect that you and your party colleagues will cease and desist from spreading such falsehoods, Ramesh said in his communication to Nadda.Furthermore, I expect that you will immediately issue an appropriate apology on behalf of your colleagues who have acted with such reckless disregard towards the truth. If this apology is not issued today, we will take appropriate legal action against your party and its leaders who insist and persist in using social media in such a blatantly irresponsible and criminal manner, Ramesh warned. However, there was no immediate reaction from the BJP. In an apparent reference to the issue, Rahul Gandhi in a tweet in Hindi said, Whole India knows the history of BJP-RSS, which warms its hands by pushing the country in the fire of hatred. No matter how much these traitors try to break the country, the Congress will continue to do more work to unite India, he said. -RSS -RSS , Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) July 2, 2022

Activist Teesta Setalvad, former Gujarat top cop RB Sreekumar sent to judicial remand

Crime Sreekumar and Setalvad, along with former IPS officer Sanjay Bhatt, have been accused of conspiring to fabricate evidence in an attempt to frame up innocent persons in Gujarat riots cases. PTI An Ahmedabad court on Saturday sent activist Teesta Setalvad and former Director General of Police R B Sreekumar, arrested for alleged fabrication of evidence regarding the 2002 Gujarat riots cases, in 14-day judicial custody. The two were produced before metropolitan magistrate S P Patel after their police custody ended. The police did not seek their further remand, said special public prosecutor Amit Patel. Setalvad and Sreekumar were arrested over a First Information Report (FIR) registered last Saturday by the Ahmedabad police crime branch. The investigation officer did not ask for any further custody. They were hence sent in 14-day judicial custody, prosecutor Patel said. Sreekumar was arrested last Saturday and Setalvad the next day after being picked up by the Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad from her home in Mumbai. Former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who is serving life sentence in a custodial death case in a jail at Palanpur in Banaskantha district, is also an accused in the case. He will be brought to Ahmedabad on transfer warrant, police sources said. The crime branch registered the FIR against them a day after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the clean chit given by a Special Investigation Team to then chief minister Narendra Modi and others in the 2002 post-Godhra riots cases. Sreekumar, Setalvad and Bhatt have been accused of conspiring to fabricate evidence in an attempt to frame up innocent persons in Gujarat riots cases. While dismissing the petition filed by Zakia Jafri whose husband and former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri was killed during the riots, the apex court had observed that a coalesced effort of the disgruntled officials of the State of Gujarat along with others was to create sensation by making revelations which were false to their own knowledge. Against Setalvad, Sreekumar and Bhatt, police have pressed Indian Penal Code sections 468, 471 (forgery), 194 (giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of capital offence), 211 (institute criminal proceedings to cause injury), 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy). Police took into consideration submissions made by the accused before the SIT formed by the Supreme Court to investigate riots cases as well as the Justice Nanavati-Shah Commission of Inquiry. The Gujarat government has formed a three-member Special Investigation Team headed by the DIG, Gujarat ATS Deepan Bhadran to investigate the case. Rahul Gandhi calls ED's interrogation big joke, said- 'Had to be interrogated 10 days'

Thiruvananthapuram: In Kerala, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has hit out at the BJP and the Central government. Apart from this, he has also accused the BJP and PM Modi of spreading hatred in the country every day. In fact, he says that whoever goes against his idea, the media, ED, CBI and police are behind it. Let us tell you all that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a three-day visit to Kerala and he was addressing his workers in Wayanad last Saturday, during which he said this. He has made a statement about the ED in Wayanad. The BJP thinks that questioning me for five days, asking me the same question over and over again for 55-60 hours will make me worried. There can't be a bigger joke than that. I was wondering why they questioned me for just five days, not 10 days? I see my 5 days of questioning as a citation. He further said, The BJP government is spreading hatred one day. Our institutions representing the voice of the people are being attacked by the BJP and RSS. Whoever stands against ideology was targeted by the ED, CBI and police. They feel they can scare people who don't agree with their ideology.'' At the same time, he accused the CPM, saying there is a good understanding between both the BJP and the CPM. Speaking on this, he said that the Central government will not take any action against the Kerala CM through the CBI and the ED. That's because there's mutual understanding between the two. PC George arrested in solar scam rape case

Crime George has, however, denied the allegations and even named the survivor at a press conference, which is against the law. PTI FILE PHOTO | FACEBOOK Controversial Kerala politician PC George was on Saturday, July 2, arrested on the basis of a sexual assault complaint filed by an accused in the solar panel case, two months after he was arrested and released on bail for hate speech. The 70-year-old George, who represented the Poonjar constituency in the state Assembly for 33 years, was taken into custody by the Museum police from a guest house in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram this afternoon in a dramatic move. At that time, the senior politician was being grilled by a team of Crime Branch personnel in connection with a conspiracy, allegedly hatched to defame the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in smuggling charges levelled by gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh. According to police sources, the sudden move to arrest George was made based on a secret statement given by the woman, and according to a written complaint filed directly by her at the local police station in this regard. As per the complaint, PC George had allegedly sexually assaulted her at a guest house in Thycaud on February 10, and also allegedly sent her indecent messages. Soon after filing an FIR over the charges, a team led by the Cantonment Assistant Commissioner took George into custody. He has been charged under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354 (a) (sexual harassment), they said. However, George rejected the charges and claimed that he had not done anything indecent and that it was a false complaint. A former chief whip while the Congress-led UDF was in power, George also alleged that the survivor filed the complaint now, as he did not give a statement in favour of her in a similar case she had filed against former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. While speaking to the reporters outside the police station, the politician again courted controversy by insulting a woman TV journalist who questioned him naming the accused, which is illegal. Besides journalists, senior CPI(M) leader and Education Minister V Sivankutty were among those who strongly condemned his act.

'India going through its worst': KCR slams PM Modi amid national executive meet

Poltics Political tensions have heightened in Hyderabad as the city hosts top-ranking BJP officials including PM Modi, as well as opposition Presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. TNM Staff Even as the BJP began its biggest national executive meet in 18 years in Hyderabad on Saturday, July 2, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) hosted opposition Presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha, who was in Hyderabad to campaign. Sinha was received by CM KCR and IT Minister K Taraka Ramarao (KTR) along with several other TRS leaders at Begumpet airport. The leaders were escorted into the city with a massive bike rally from the Begumpet airport to People's Plaza at Necklace Road, where KCR addressed the gathering in Hindi, in a bid to appeal to a national audience. TRS has expressed its support to Sinha, who is supported by opposition parties including the Congress, with whom the TRS wants to maintain an equal distance. In his speech on Saturday, KCR seems to have used the event meant to support Yashwanth Sinha, to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi who also reached Hyderabad on Saturday and the BJP. This was the third consecutive time that CM KCR did not receive the Prime Minister during his visits to the city. KCR came down heavily on PM Modi and accused him of failing the country in various fields. KCR alleged that the PMs promises like demonetisation have been failures, adding that black money in the country has increased since then. You have made several promises before winning, we want to know if even one of them was fulfilled, KCR said. Referring to the recent allegations that the PM pressured Gotabaya Rajapaksa to sign a power project over to the Adani group, KCR accused PM Modi of bringing a bad name to India, adding that PM Modi acted as a salesman rather than a Prime Minister. Further, he said that during the agitations against the three contentious farm laws in 2021, KCR said that the protesting farmers were labelled as terrorists and traitors by the ruling BJP. The massive bike rally from begumpet airport to Necklace Road Ahead of the national executive meet in Hyderabad, a few BJP leaders including Tamil Nadu party chief and Telangana MP K Laxman warned of a Maharashtra-like political scenario in Telangana. In his speech, KCR said, So far, you (BJP) have collapsed nine governments, this is on your record. Where are we heading to? India is going through its worst in every way, and accused PM Modi of harassing his critics and misusing constitutional bodies. The occurrence of two major political events in Telangana has increased tensions between the two parties in Hyderabad. The TRS and BJP have begun engaging in turf wars and occupy public spaces in Hyderabad. Read more about it here: From TRS doom clock to Money Heist meme mocking PM, party turf wars heat up Telangana
