BGT 2024-25: IPL Auction No Distraction For Perth Test, Says Cummins
Lucknow Super Giants: Australia captain Pat Cummins is confident that the upcoming IPL mega auction, scheduled to overlap with the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, will not distract his team. The IPL auction is set for November 24 and 25 and shortly after day three and four ends on November 24 and 25, respectively, the action will shift to the two-day IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah. Yeah, I think he is there in the auction. I don't think so (it will be a distraction). Dan has flown over there, but he has been here for the whole prep. Done all the meetings, done all the chats, watching it. We came to know that anyway. So, for the players, I don't think so. Most of these guys have been there in the auctions before. They know they can't really do anything. You are a sitting duck and seeing whether you get selected or not. It doesn't... doesn't make a difference to how we go about the first two days. It is not a distraction as far as I can see it, Cummins told reporters. Cummins and Travis Head are the only Australian players in the current squad retained by their IPL franchises. Daniel Vettori, Australias assistant coach, will miss the Perth Test to be in Jeddah as Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach. Similar is the case with Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer, who are confirmed to miss commentating on the Perth Test for broadcasters Channel Seven after day ones play to be in the auction as head coaches of Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, respectively. Dan has done all the meetings and preparations with us. Its all set, so no concerns there, Cummins added. The scheduling has drawn criticism, with former Australia captain Pontingsaying, A lot of players in both teams are part of the auction. It could have been scheduled during the nine-day gap between Tests, avoiding unnecessary pressure. Cummins, however, remains unfazed with scheduling. We are fully focused on the Perth Test. The auction timing means it wont interfere with the first two days of play. Were ready to give our best, he asserted. This has got the Indian intelligence agencies to investigate the syndicates role in the seizure of 50 exotic species smuggled in from Thailand and Malaysia in three cases by customs at Bengaluru airport (November 8 and 12) and Hyderabad airport (November 15). One of the carriers arrested in Bengaluru is a native of Tiruchy. Several rare birds and marsupials native to Pacific Ocean islands and an alligator were part of the seizures. Liyaqath (29) was arrested with two accomplices for possession of 17 African ball pythons, three sulcata tortoises and one African serval cat which he was transporting from Bhubaneshwar into Bengaluru, where he runs Karnataka aquarium, a shop which sells exotic pets. HYDERABAD: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hailed the Telangana governments efforts to bring in a legislation for the welfare of gig workers . He asked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to make an effective law for gig workers by holding state-wide public consultations. Recently, Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to the chief minister, which the latter made public on Wednesday, through X. In his letter, Rahul Gandhi said: I request you to conduct state-wide public consultations for the draft legislation for gig workers. Hearing from all parties will ensure that the law is robust, effective and meaningful. The process can also help anchor future regulations for this sector. He said he was pleased with Telangana moving forward with a draft law, honouring Congress guarantee to the people of Telangana. He said: During my recent visit to Hyderabad, I was impressed by the vibrant public consultative process for the socio, economic, educational, employment, political and caste survey. It offers a valuable model to ensure law makers here to emerge directly from the people. He stated that the Congress stood for the wellbeing of workers. Our manifesto is committed to bringing forth a law to protect gig workers and enhance social security. In the states we govern we have taken several steps in this direction, he added. He mentioned that over the last decade, lakhs of workers have joined the gig economy. The generous initiatives in early years also helped many acquire income generating assets. However, time and again, workers have highlighted their vulnerabilities that arise due to their nature of employment. The absence of regulations further diminished their ability to negotiate or demand fair terms of work. Exploitative work conditions, predatory pricing and the lack of an effective grievance redressal mechanism must be addressed. Furthermore, workers grapple with social discrimination and inhumane conduct in their daily work. Meanwhile, responding to Rahul Gandhis letter, Revanth Reddy promised to make the Telangana state gig workers policy comprehensive, inclusive, fair and pioneering, in line with Rahul Gandhis vision and promise. Replying to Rahul Gandhi, on X, the chief minister said: All of our work is inspired by your vision, ideas and work. It gives us more energy to know that the Telangana caste survey has made you feel proud.

TPCC meet to discuss census, internal discord
HYDERABAD: With an objective to discuss Congress governments governance, caste census, municipal elections, and internal discord among a few leaders in the constituencies, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) executive committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and several other ministers, MLAs, MPs, MLCs, corporation chairpersons besides AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi, and other AICC secretaries will participate in the meeting. The timing of the executive committee assumes significance as it is being organised after the conclusion of polling for Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections. This development triggers the speculations of possible appointments of the partys internal committees. The partys rank and file at various levels are unhappy with non-appointment to partys and government nominated posts. In the wake of the Congress nearing completion of its first year in government in the state, the party functionaries are planning to bring pressure on the leadership in the internal fora. During the previous executive committee meeting, the party second-rung leaders complained that the ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and MPs are not accessible to them. With the situation remaining more or less the same, according to sources in the Gandhi Bhavan, the issue is also likely to come up once again. In the light of news reports suggesting non-cooperation of residents for caste survey in the urban areas, the party is likely to direct its cadres to accompany the surveyors and ensure that the exercise goes on without any hindrance.
People waiting for KCR to return to power: Harish
HYDERABAD: BRS leader and former finance minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday claimed that people were eagerly waiting for K Chandrasekhar Raos rule again. He expressed confidence that the BRS would win 100 seats, whenever Assembly elections were held. Harish Rao visited Kurumurthy temple in Mahabubnagar and prayed to the presiding deity to pardon them for electing the Congress. He said that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy swore by all the gods in the state to implement several welfare programmes but failed to keep his promise. One should face divine wrath after failing to keep the promises made solemnly in the name of god. That is why I came to this temple and wanted the god to pardon him, Harish Rao remarked. He listed out the assurances the Congress government allegedly failed to implement in the last one year. Taking a dig at the government, the BRS leader alleged that the CM who was issuing memos to excise officials for not meeting liquor sale targets had no time to keep track of the progress of paddy and cotton purchases.
Telangana HC questions legality of ex-MLA Narender Reddys arrest; wife files contempt petition
HYDERABAD: Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday raised serious questions about the legality and procedure followed in the arrest of former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy . Hearing a bail petition filed by the former MLA, Justice Lakshman expressed concern over discrepancies in the account of the arrest, which has been a point of contention between his counsel and the prosecution. Senior counsel Gandra Mohan Rao , representing Narender Reddy , told the court that his client was arrested while on a morning walk at KBR Park. However, Public Prosecutor Palle Nageshwar Rao countered this claim, asserting that the arrest was made at Narender Reddys residence. The court questioned why Narender Reddys family was not informed about his arrest if it took place at his home, as required by law. Instead, the police informed one Saleem, a close associate of the former MLA. The judge remarked that such actions violated established arrest procedures and observed, The arrest of the petitioner was conducted as if he is a terrorist. The arrest followed accusations that Narender Reddy conspired to instigate farmers and others to oppose a government land acquisition policy, particularly in connection with the Lagcherla incident. However, the judge expressed scepticism about the prosecutions claims, questioning whether the allegations of conspiracy were substantiated. The judge noted that call data records showed Narender Reddy had made only one or two calls per day to farmers or associates in the 10-15 days preceding the incident, which was insufficient to establish a conspiracy. Another point of contention was the medical report of injuries sustained by government officials during the Lagcherla incident. The judge highlighted that the report, issued by a NIMS doctor, showed no evidence of grievous injuries. Furthermore, the presence of question marks in the report raised doubts about its authenticity and reliability. The court directed the public prosecutor to furnish statements from the co-accused, including Lakshmiah and two others, whose testimonies led to Narender Reddys inclusion in a remand report dated November 13, 2024. The matter was adjourned to Thursday for further hearing. NARENDER REDDYS WIFE MOVES COURT FOR CONTEMPT Patnam Shruti, wife of former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, filed a contempt petition in the Telangana High Court on Wednesday, accusing senior police officers of illegal arrest and non-compliance with the Supreme Courts directives outlined in the landmark DK Basu vs. State of West Bengal (1997) judgment. The officers named in the petition include Multi Zone-II IGP V Satyanarayana; Vikarabad Superintendent of Police K Narayan Reddy, Bomraspet Inspector Sridhar Reddy and Bomraspet Sub-Inspector Md Abdul Rauf. Shrutis petition alleges that her husband was apprehended in broad daylight in an inhuman manner, with none of the mandatory safeguards outlined in Paragraph 35 of the DK Basu judgment being followed. The petition says that the arresting officers did not wear uniforms or carry visible identification as required, instead appearing in plain clothes.

Five-storey building tilts in Gachibowli; evacuated, demolished after panic and injuries
HYDERABAD: A five-storey building in Siddiqnagar, Gachibowli, tilted unexpectedly on Tuesday night, forcing the GHMC to evacuate over 50 residents and demolish the structure on Wednesday. The two-year-old building, housing 12 apartments rented for Rs 10,000 to Rs 13,000 per month, developed cracks. Preliminary investigations indicated that excavation work on an adjacent 200 sq. yd. plot caused the damage. The GHMC began demolition shortly after the evacuation, deploying a hydraulic crane and cordoning off two nearby lanes with heavy police and emergency personnel presence. Demolition was completed by 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Officials from the Town Planning department suspect that digging on the adjacent plot, approximately 89 feet deep, destabilised the foundation of the affected building, which stood on a 50 sq. yd. plot. Locals reported that construction on the adjacent plot began two months ago. The plot owner, V. Laxman, had taken permission from the GHMC. However, we need to verify whether he constructed additional floors without authorisation. For a plot of this size (50 sq. yd.), only G+2 floors are typically permitted, a GHMC official said. Tenant injured while escaping the tilting building Laxman stated that Sreenu, the builder working on the adjacent plot, had promised to compensate the tenants for their losses. Following a complaint from the GHMCs Serilingampally zone, Madhapur police registered a case against the contractor responsible for the excavation, identified as Sreenu. Charges include negligence endangering personal safety (Section 125) and mischief (Section 324). Meanwhile, Sadiq ur Rahman, a tenant in his 20s, fell from the third floor while attempting to escape the tilting building. A native of Assam, Rahman sustained serious back injuries and a fractured leg and is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. Witnesses described scenes of panic as residents fled the building. At around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the building started shaking, and visible cracks appeared. By 8:30 p.m., police and other officials arrived, said M. Srikant, whose family of eight spent the night outdoors. Another tenant, Anjana Dasardar, said her children heard crackling sounds before the building began to shake. The owner sent someone to inspect it, but shortly after, the structure started trembling, she added. A neighbor criticized the lack of oversight in the area, stating that local contractors frequently construct multi-storey buildings in narrow lanes without hiring qualified engineers or obtaining proper approvals. Why arent authorities inspecting these constructions regularly? he asked.
15 students fall sick in Maganoor ZPHS after having lunch
HYDERABAD: As many as 15 students fell ill reportedly after having lunch at the Zilla Parishad High School in Maganoor of Narayanpet district on Wednesday. The students consumed boiled eggs with dal and rice for lunch. Officials suspect that the eggs might have affected their digestion and led to vomiting. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed anger over the incident and directed the collector to suspend the ones responsible. He enquired about the health of the students and directed officials to provide immediate treatment. The CM also ordered the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to investigate the cause and submit a report. Two suspended, agency terminated Meanwhile, later in the day, the director of the School Education department issued orders suspending the school headmaster, Muralidhar Reddy, and the in-charge headmaster and Midday Meal (MDM) in-charge, Bapu Reddy. The department also terminated the services of the MDM agency providing meals to the school over its negligence of duty. Operation cover-up? Around 4 pm, the school management contacted a PHC doctor after some students began vomiting. The doctor treated the students at the school and later moved them to the Mahbubnagar General Hospital. The department said 15 students are undergoing treatment. DMHO K Sow Bhagyalaxmi told TNIE that the condition of all the students was stable. The official added that one student developed skin rashes, but was now in stable condition. All the students have been given antibiotics. They will all be discharged tomorrow (Thursday), the DMHO confirmed. EV tax break sparks hope; questions persist
HYDERABAD: The governments announcement of a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles (EVs) has evoked mixed reactions from stakeholders and experts. While the move to promote green mobility and environment-friendly vehicles has been widely welcomed, concerns are being raised about addressing existing challenges in manufacturing, battery technology and charging infrastructure. Speaking to TNIE, Venugopal Rao Nellutla, an electric mobility expert and independent consultant, called the tax exemption commendable for boosting consumer confidence by reducing EV costs. However, he urged the government to prevent unethical practices, such as the artificial inflation of ex-showroom prices by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or dealers of EVs. To safeguard consumer interests and maintain policy integrity, he suggested introducing a price monitoring mechanism. He recommended establishing a regulatory body to track and audit EV pricing trends before and after the exemptions implementation. Drawing parallels with the Gujarat Energy Development Agency model, Venugopal said the government should mandate transparency in pricing. OEMs and dealers must provide a detailed price breakup, including the manufacturer billing price, logistics, margins and taxes, to ensure consumers, particularly ill-informed buyers of three-wheeler EVs, are fully informed, he said, adding that penalties should be imposed on violators for manipulating prices. Focus on infra Alwala Devender Reddy, founder of Eride E-Mobility, highlighted the policys potential to reduce vehicular emissions and contribute to Indias goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2070. Speaking to TNIE, he noted improvements in battery safety following the introduction of the Automotive Research Association of India and International Centre for Automotive Technology standards. New software and awareness initiatives have mitigated battery-related incidents. Transitioning from lithium-ion to hydrogen batteries is the next step, he said. However, Devender highlighted the urgent need to expand charging infrastructure, especially along highways. He also advocated for a unified One Nation, One EV Policy to accelerate EV adoption, stressing that EVs and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles would need to coexist during the transition phase. Concerns of consumers Auto drivers expressed apprehensions about the policys impact on existing CNG, LPG and ICE-powered auto-rickshaws. We are awaiting detailed guidelines. The government must ensure support for non-EV rickshaws to prevent their marginalisation under the new policy, said Sathi Reddy, a member of the Joint Action Committee of the Auto Drivers Union. Consumers, while welcoming the tax exemption, flagged issues of range anxiety and inadequate charging stations as barriers to choosing EVs over ICE vehicles. Experts also acknowledged the issue of range anxiety among EV users, particularly car owners, and emphasised the need for further R&D in this area. Mahesh Kumar, a car rental business owner from Rangareddy, said, The incentives on road tax and registration fees sound profitable, but range and charging time challenges make me hesitant to switch to EVs immediately.
GHMC razes tilted building, issues notice to owner
Hyderabad : Imdadul Islim, who is in his early 20s, was on the roads of Siddiq Nagar, Gachibowli, from Tuesday night onwards, along with around 50 other residents of a five-storey building that leaned sideways between 7 and 8 pm. The building, constructed on just 50 square yards, had 12 rooms, with 4 to 6 people sharing each room. Most residents were migrants from Assam, Odisha, and Bihar, working in nearby commercial establishments. On Wednesday afternoon, neighbours came forward and prepared a meal for the displaced residents. Civic authorities quickly sprang into action and demolished the building on Wednesday. This incident highlighted the negligence of civic authorities, who had failed to address illegal constructions that jeopardised people's lives. Imdadul Islim recounted, When the building started leaning, we heard creaking sounds, and the floor tiles cracked. We thought it was an earthquake. We left everything behind and ran out barefoot. Some people even left their stoves on. All our belongings are still inside the building. We have nothing left, and the authorities sealed the premises before starting demolition. Iqbal Hussain, another resident, said, We came to this city to earn a living. Now, all our belongings and money are buried under the debris. Since last evening, weve had no food, no place to sleep, and were still in the same clothes. The cause of the incident was explained by the buildings owner, V. Laxman, and his wife, Swapna. According to them, the immediate neighbour had begun construction on an adjacent open plot. On Tuesday, workers dug 11 feet into the ground with a JCB machine to lay pillars, damaging the foundation of Laxmans building and causing it to lean. Laxman, a car driver, said, Along with my wife and two children, I lived on the first floor. This building was constructed just two years ago. We warned the neighbours against excavation, but they continued. I sold my agricultural land in Miryalaguda to construct this building, hoping to live off the rental income. That night, I filed a complaint at the Madhapur police station against my neighbour. The incident caused panic among nearby residents, many of whom stayed awake all night fearing their buildings might also be affected. Alivelu, a neighbour, remarked, These buildings are constructed without proper permissions for rent. Even a tiny room costs over Rs 10,000, while hostel beds go for Rs 15,000. As the migrant population grew, rents skyrocketed. The lanes here are narrow, and buildings are like skyscrapers built on tiny plots. This incident once again exposed the negligence of civic authorities, who remained mute spectators as hundreds of illegal constructions sprung up. Several ongoing constructions in the area consist of five-story buildings on plots smaller than 100 square feet. Srinivas Reddy, a local kirana shop owner who supplied groceries to the migrants, added, The tenants of that building are now homeless. Their belongings are under the debris. If they want to rent another place, the deposits will be high, and their earnings are meagre. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Serilingampally Zonal Commissioner, responding to the incident, said, We have lodged cases against the building owner for constructing five floors in violation of rules. When asked why so many illegal constructions exist in the area, he replied, We will serve notices to all illegal constructions in Siddiq Nagar, where there are over 500 buildings. Similar situations exist in areas like Anjayya Nagar, Ayyappa Society, TNGO Colony, Gokul Plots, and Kavuri Hills.

BRS Nominees Hang on to Crucial Posts Even as Congress Government Readies for First Anniversary
Hyderabad : The Congress government in Telangana is approaching its first anniversary in office in another two weeks, yet several high-ranking officials appointed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime continue to retain their positions, raising eyebrows within administrative circles. Despite a review of their roles and perceived loyalties to BRS leadership, no concrete action has been taken to replace these individuals, sparking criticism and speculation. Among the most notable names are Shakti Nagappan, director of life sciences and pharma; N.V.S. Reddy (managing director of HMRL); Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri (chief relations officer-Information Technology, electronics and communications department) and Archana Suresh (director of T-SIG), the CSR wing of the state government. Reports suggest that these officials remain closely aligned with former IT minister K.T. Rama Rao and the BRS leadership. The review undertaken by the Congress government reportedly highlighted that many of these officials had worked in close proximity with Rama Rao and continue to maintain cordial relationships with him. Their social media activity reflects this loyalty, as few of them follow and engage with Rama Raos platforms while ignoring Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and official government handles. Despite these findings, no replacements or show-cause notices have been issued, leading to speculation about influential figures shielding these officials. The re-evaluation reportedly found that they had failed to meet the expectations of the current administration. Nagappan played a key role in the BRS government's pet project, Hyderabad Pharma City, which has since been scrapped by the Congress government. Nagappan is considered to be very close to Rama Rao. The review found that he had failed to deliver on key pharma projects over the past one year. N.V.S. Reddy's public remarks about Hyderabad Metro Rail's financial struggles have drawn sharp criticism. He recently stated that the project is burdened with over Rs.6,000 crore in losses and has failed to attract private or institutional funding for expansion. These comments have undermined the Congress governments and Revanth Reddy's push for Metro Rail expansion, prompting discussions about finding a replacement from the Indian Railway Service. Although he managed to survive in this position since 2007, his exit looks imminent with his controversial remarks on Metro Rail expansion. Amarnath Reddy, despite his 10-year tenure under the BRS regime, continues to exhibit social media loyalty towards Rama Rao. The social media audit revealed that he continues to follow Rama Rao on social media platforms but ignores Revanth Reddy. Archana Suresh is facing allegations of her ongoing collaboration with the BRSs IT and social media wings, which have led to concerns about her impartiality. The Congress government is reportedly keen to ensure that state-led organisations operate without political interference. A recommendation has been made to replace these officials as part of a broader effort to restore the autonomy and efficiency of state institutions. This initiative aligns with the Chief Ministers agenda to reorient the governments focus towards innovation and entrepreneurship, free from the lingering influences of the BRS regime. While the Congress government has yet to take decisive action, sources suggest that a reshuffle of key positions is on the cards. This is seen as a critical move as it can bolster the Congress governments image and ensure smooth execution of its policies in the coming years.
Khammam Rama Temple Trustee Appointment Stayed
Hyderabad : Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court passed an interim order directing the state endowments department and other authorities not to appoint a trust board for the Sri Kodandarama Sametha Kalakodeshwara Aalayam situated in Kalakodima, Khammam. This direction came in response to a writ plea filed by the president of the temple trust challenging a notice issued by the authorities for appointing a trust board as per the provisions of The Telangana Charitable And Hindu Religious Institutions And Endowments Act. The petitioner alleged that the impugned notice issued by the respondents was illegal and in violation of the principles of natural justice besides being in violation of the Constitution. The petitioner also sought a direction to the respondent authorities not to appoint any trust board for the temple. After hearing the parties, the judge passed an interim direction and directed the respondents to file their response. Cement road laying tender under judicial lens Justice Surepalli Nanda of Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea challenging the grant of a tender in favour of BLG Infra Projects Private Limited for laying of concrete cement roads by Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC). The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by SV Projects alleging that the TGIIC overlooked the fact that the petitioner was a fit candidate to procure the tender, as it held the equipment of Concrete Paver Finisher 40 HP and also filed the registration certificate and lease agreement, as was mentioned as a condition of eligibility for the grant. The grant was for laying of concrete cement roads at IP Gadwal Jogulamba Gadwal district. It is the case of the petitioner that even though BLG Infra Projects Private Limited allegedly did not furnish the required documentation under the eligibility criteria, the tender was granted by TGIIC in its favour in September 2024. After hearing the petitioner, the judge admitted the writ plea and directed the respondent authorities to file their response and posted the matter for further adjudication. No LOC at banks instance: HC Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy of the Telangana High Court quashed a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued at the request of Union Bank of India against the managing director of Progressive Constructions Limited. The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by Pathuri Praveen. It is the case of the petitioner that Progressive Constructions availed credit facilities from the consortium of banks for which the petitioner stood as guarantor. He contended that the company incurred losses and could not repay the loans, at request the loans was restructured. He alleged that he was stopped by the immigration authorities on the ground that a LOC was issued against him. It was argued that LOC to prevent the petitioner from travelling abroad is arbitrary exercise of power and violative of his fundamental rights. Counsel representing the Centre argued that the Union Bank of India has to recover more than Rs 180 crore together with interest thereon from the borrower and the petitioner as the beneficiary of the bank guarantees has already given the BG invocation letter to the bank. The judge relying on various judgments, ruled that the clause which enunciates the guidelines and framework with regard to issuance of LOC at instance of chairman/managing director/CEOs of all Public Sector Banks was quashed by various High Courts, the LOC issued on that basis is liable to be set aside and cannot be sustained. Land acquisition for 4-way lane challenged Justice T. Vinod Kumar of Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea challenging the alleged arbitrary change in the alignment of the proposed four-lane expansion of the Armoor-Jagitial-Mancherial section of National Highway 63. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by Chedimela Ramesh and 22 others, alleging that the realignment has led to unwarranted acquisition of fertile agricultural lands in Anksapur and Padgal revenue villages, Nizamabad district. The petitioners argued that the change in alignment, is unjustified, as an earlier Section 3A notification dated March 14, 2023, was still in effect. The petitioners also alleged that the new notifications, along with the disposal order issued by the revenue divisional officer-cum-competent authority for land acquisition, violate the provisions of the Act and accordingly sought to set aside the same. The petitioners further contended that the fresh alignment decisions were made without proper justification or authority, driven by extraneous considerations. The petitioners claim that they were unaware of the notifications and were denied an opportunity to raise objections under the Act. The government pleader argued that the change in alignment necessitated fresh notifications, and objections were called for within the stipulated 21-day period, in accordance with law, which the petitioners failed to comply. The judge ordered notices to the respondents and posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks. Writ against alleged encroachment in Shiv Bagh Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea challenging the actions of the SR Nagar Station House officer in not taking any action against an illegal occupant of a property in Shiva Bagh, Ameerpet, Hyderabad. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by Balaji Estates India Private Limited alleging inaction of the respondent on the complaint of the petitioner pertaining to its property. The petitioner alleged that the respondent is acting in a highly arbitrary manner and in violation of the Constitution. The petitioner also alleged violation of the law laid down by the Supreme Court of India in Lalitha Kumari vs State of Uttar Pradesh. A direction was sought to the respondent for registering an FIR against the accused. The judge after hearing the petitioner, expressed his surprise to the fact that a building was illegally encroached as against a vacant land which is in general illegally occupied in many cases. The judge directed the government pleader representing the respondents to get instructions in the matter.
Tilted Building: Builder Flouting Excavation Rules Booked
Hyderabad: A case was filed on Wednesday against the builder and homeowner for allegedly violating excavation regulations, which caused a building in Siddique Nagar, Madhapur, to tilt dangerously. Hyderabad: BJP state general secretary Premender Reddy criticised that the government is celebrating its first anniversary after failing to keep its promises made by them in Warangal as part of the farmers' declaration. The Revanth Reddy government has failed in giving Rythu Bharosa and tenant farmers and labourers are waiting for the promises made to them, he said while addressing the media in the party's state office on Wednesday. The CM lied at the Warangal Arts College grounds from where they made promises. The government announced that they would waive off the crop loans of 64 lakh farmers but by their own admission, only 22 lakh farmers got the benefit. What happened to the PM Fasal Bima Yojana which was promised to be implemented? If the scheme is in place, Telangana farmers would have received thousands of crores in compensation after recent calamities, he noted. Premender Reddy demanded the government to come out with the data on how much paddy was bought and how much of that was of fine varieties. The state government has failed to buy paddy despite the Centre bearing the costs of purchase, storage and other expenses. The government is claiming credit for the 50,000 jobs that it did not give, he added.

TIFR Devises Energy-Efficient, Sustainable Method for Chemical Separation
Hyderabad: Chemical separation technologies are crucial for building sustainable industrial processes and are increasingly seeing innovative advancements. Some technologies aim at simplifying the process of chemical separation while reducing energy consumption and environmental impact. A team at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad, led by Ritesh Haldar, has developed a novel approach to enhance the separation of chemical isomersmolecules with the same composition but differing structures and properties. Isomer separation is critical across various industries--particularly in pharmaceuticals and bulk chemical manufacturing--yet remains a significant challenge due to the molecules' similar chemical and physical properties. Conventional methods often require substantial energy or rely on complex chemical reactions. The TIFR teams method boasts of a more efficient and versatile solution. The study was published in Nature Communications recently. The researchers used a material known as a metal-organic framework (MOF), characterised by its nanoporous structure. This material functions as a molecular sieve, selectively separating isomers based on their slightly different sizesoften just a few angstroms (1 angstrom = one-tenth of a nanometer). By controlling molecular diffusion within the MOF's narrow pores, the team demonstrated a great amount of precision in separating isomers. Explaining the significance of the separation process they have devised, Ritesh said, Separation can be done using two fundamental processes. One is adsorption and the other is filtration. Adsorption-based process requires great amounts of energy. Our work talks about a diffusion process (filtration) where this energy input is very low. Secondly, we have proved the concept. Now the applicability is in sectors like pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and separating chiral molecules (that are key for drug synthesis). It can also enhance industrial gas separation processes, such as isolating gaseous hydrocarbons. Beyond isomer separation, the principles of this research could extend to catalysis, opening new avenues for efficient chemical reactions, he added. The breakthrough also introduces a reversible selectivity mechanism. For example, given two isomers, A and B, the system can be chemically modified to either isolate A or B as needed. Unlike traditional heating-based separation processes, this method relies on diffusion, requiring minimal energy input and reducing carbon emissions, said Ritesh Haldar. While the current study focuses on concept validation, Dr. Haldars team is developing real-time membranes to demonstrate these processes in practical applications. Collaborations with the industry are anticipated as the team extends the concept to catalysis, for which they are in the process of patent filing.
Move for High Court bench at Kurnool gains momentum
Kurnool: Amid protests by advocates against the proposed shifting of legal bodies like Lokayukta and AP State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) from Kurnool to Amaravati, a letter from the law secretary of the state to registrar general of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, dated October 28, has gone viral on social media. The letter requests the registrar general to follow up with Government of India regarding the establishment of an AP High Court bench in Kurnool. The demand for such a bench in Kurnool stems from lack of proper conveyance between Kurnool and Amaravati. While the previous government temporarily appeased local sentiments by shifting some legal bodies from Vijayawada and Hyderabad to Kurnool, the larger demand for a High Court bench remained unaddressed. On November 14, the government's advocate informed the High Court on the planned relocation of institutions like Lokayukta and APSHRC to Amaravati. The announcement sparked widespread dissatisfaction, prompting local advocates to boycott court activities from November 19, despite industries minister T.G. Bharath's reassurances that no such proposals exist. Advocates countered, citing the government advocate's statement as the basis for their ongoing protests. The letter dated October 28 that has gone viral on social media states that as per the Chief Minister's assurance during the Praja Galam programme, action needs to be taken to establish a High Court bench at Kurnool. It points out that there are similar arrangements in other states, where high courts have benches in different locations to enhance accessibility to people. Their examples include Madras High Courts bench at Madurai, Bombay High Courts benches at Nagpur and Aurangabad, and the Guwahati High Court's multiple benches in north-eastern states. Rayalaseema, with a population of 1.59 crore, accounts for over 25 per cent of AP's population. The state government argues that absence of direct train services between Kurnool and Vijayawada and the significant share of High Court cases originating from the region justify the creation of a bench. The letter, signed by law secretary V. Sunitha, highlighted these points while underscoring the need for the Chief Justice of the High Court to approve the proposal and for the High Court to pursue the matter with the Government of India. The agitating advocates have welcomed the state government's move. But they have vowed to continue their agitation against the proposed relocation of legal institutions to Amaravati. Senior advocates Jayaraju and Balaram emphasised their commitment to the cause, stating that their movement will persist until the government officially announces its decision to establish the bench and ensure retention of the existing legal bodies in Kurnool. Jayaraju and Balaram questioned why the government had not released the letter earlier, especially when there has been a longstanding demand for establishment of the High Court bench in Kurnool.

Historic well of Hyderabad's Public Garden turns stinky
Hyderabad : The historic well near the Telangana Legislative Council building, next to Jubilee Hall in the Public Garden, Nampally, has fallen into neglect. It is now contaminated with drainage water and foul smell, worrying morning walkers and local environmentalists. The well, which provided clean water during the Nizam era and helped keep the area around Jubilee Hall and the legislative building green, has become infected due to drainage water. The contamination has killed at least 12 tortoises and 34 fish on November 20. Social activist Mohammed Abid Ali, told Deccan Chronicle , The well is not only a part of our heritage but an essential component of the garden's ecosystem. Ignoring this problem puts the buildings at risk and harms the health of both the legislative members and the people who visit the garden every day. Drainage water has been seeping into the well for the past seven days, said a security guard near the Legislative Council building. Despite complaints made to multiple departments, no action has been taken and the issue remains unresolved. One of the maintenance staff in the Public Garden said, Yes, the well became polluted due to debris and a drainage leak from a nearby concrete building. The leaked water has caused contamination in the area. We have already filed a complaint with the water board, but no action has been taken yet. This issue has been there for several days, and its frustrating because its not getting resolved.

(Photo: telanganaonline.in) Fire Services DG Mr Rajiv Ratan told DC that the department had undertaken random checks in commercial buildings of more than 15 metres height. (Photo: telanganaonline.in) Hyderabad: Disaster relief drills must mimic real-life conditions, like darkness and smoke. During a fire, things wont be easy. Training people to respond effectively under pressure is crucial, said Mr. Shingo Kawamura, former commissioner of fire and disaster management services, Japan, addressing a gathering at Na Ra JAPAN HUB at Kondapur. Explaining the objective of the event, Rama Bhadra, founder of the HUB, said, I lived in Japan for 18 years. My house collapsed during the 1995 earthquake. I saw the Japanese resilience and disaster response system up close. I realised the importance of sharing this knowledge. In his keynote address, Kawamura shared examples from Japan, where regular fire drills are mandatory and industries collaborate with fire departments to conduct these exercises twice a year. In Japan, the safety of workers is our priority, so we are slower but safer. In America, the approach is faster but riskier, he noted. Chief guest Y. Nagi Reddy, director general of Telangana disaster response and fire services, said, Japan is more prone to natural disasters, while Hyderabad is relatively safer, falling in zone 3 for earthquakes. However, we deal with floods, building collapses, and fire incidents98-99 per cent of which occur in non-high-rise buildings where regulations are not imposed. Another speaker Dr S.K. Jayachandra, former IPS officer, stressed the need for India to rethink its approach to disaster preparedness. We are least prepared to meet any calamity. Training is extremely important in disaster management, he said..

Telangana HC Orders Survey of Lands in Patelguda Village
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court made it clear that owners of buildings in Patelguda village of Ameenpur mandal in Sangareddy district are entitled to file cases against the municipal authorities, revenue department and HYDRAA before the competent civil court claiming compensation and damages for the illegal demolition of their structures, subject to the condition that their buildings are situated in private patta lands. The court clarified that if they are found to be in government land, then the residents cannot seek any relief. They will be left with only the option of urging the government to regularise their structures and the court cannot interfere in the said issue. Meanwhile, the court also directed the assistant director of survey and land records in the district to conduct survey and localisation of the lands forming part of survey nos. 6 and 12 of Patelguda village to fix the boundaries and to demarcate patta and government lands. Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy was dealing with a batch of petitions filed by residents of Patelguda, whose houses were recently demolished by revenue and civic authorities with the assistance of HYDRAA. The aggrieved house owners complained to the court that their buildings are situated in private patta land and their seller had obtained the nala conversion permission to convert the agricultural land into a residential zone. The petitioners also submitted registration documents and building permissions. Without issuing any notice or survey, the authorities had demolished the buildings, which is a violation of the principle of natural justice, the petitioners contended. On the contrary, revenue authorities brought to the notice of the court that the petitioners had, on the pretext of survey number six, encroached government land, which in survey number 12. Hence, a call was taken to raze the said buildings. During the course of hearing, the court faulted the revenue authorities for not protecting government land and how they could demolish the structures without giving any opportunity to other side. The court directed the conduct of a survey and fixing boundaries across the said survey numbers by issuing notices to the petitioners and others. The court also made it clear that the petitioners are entitled to institute appropriate cases before the competent civil court claiming compensation and damages for the illegal demolition of their structures. The court directed both sides to maintain status quo on the said lands till the completion of the said survey and localisation of the lands forming part of survey nos. 6 and 12 of Patelguda village.
Brewers Seek Govt Nod to Increase Prices of Beer
Hyderabad: The Brewers Association of India (BAI) has appealed to the state government to immediately allow beer companies to enhance prices, which was last revised in 2019, given the problems they have been facing due to inflation. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, BAI director general Vinod Giri said, The current basic prices allowed to beer supplier companies in Telangana are based on 2019 costs. Since then the cost of production has gone up by 35-40 per cent. However, the government has not allowed a basic price revision to compensate for this increase in cost of production. This has made operations in Telangana commercially unsustainable and future investments unviable. Recognizing the urgent need to increase supplier prices for beer, the incumbent state government had set up a price fixation committee (PFC) in July and directed all beer companies operating in the state to submit their proposal for revised declared prices that is the price at which companies supply beer to the state government. It also directed BAI to present an industry perspective on the cost of production of beer and other factors that may affect their prices in the state. As per BAI personnel, the process of submissions, presentations and industry consultations was concluded by the first week of August but there has been no further progress on this front. In its letter to members of the PFC, the association mentioned, While the government allows price increase to suppliers only after a gap of a few years, the costs keep rising on a regular basis. Suppliers have been permitted price increase only twice in the last seven years-nine per cent-11 per cent in 2018 and 5.5 per cent-7.5 percent in 2022 which, with due indexing, is a net increase of 16-18 percent over last seven years, whereas the average cost of beer production has gone up by 45-50 percent over the same period as per the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) data from the Union government. BAI says that average cost of production has gone up by 35-40 per cent since the previous revision. Today the declared price for beer in Telangana is 30 per cent -50 per cent lower than that in the neighbouring states. This is not sustainable, and companies are incurring losses in supplying beer to the state. This is coming on top of the massive delays in payments by the government for the supplies made, which has made operations in the state commercially unsustainable. The association stated that in keeping with its reputation for being a progressive and business friendly state, the government should allow free pricing and permit companies to determine prices of their beer products as per the costs and brand demand, as is the practice in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Both states saw high investment inflow in alco-bev sector, the report said. Elaborating further BAI said, At the very least, the government should link prices with inflation using a credible inflation benchmark such as Wholesale price Index (WPI) and allow supplier companies an automatic increase in the prices of their product Being fair to the suppliers, it will also ensure that the government tax collections are also inflation-adjusted.
Telangana CM Abuses PM, Kishan to Cover Up His Failures: BJP
Hyderabad: BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy said the BRS looted the state in the name of Kaleshwaram, Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha but the probe against them has not progressed. He further asked if there was any progress in the phone-tapping case and others. Addressing the media at the party headquarters in Hyderabad he said, Is the CM celebrating his failure to deliver on the promises made? The CM has become synonymous with thousands of crores of corruption in the name of Fourth City and Musi beautification. Only the CM and his ministerial colleagues have benefitted in the last 11 months. If he has guts he should come out and celebrate among the people. Opposition MLAs are being taken into the Congress by violating anti-defection laws. The attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy is reflective of his attempts to cover his failures and subservience to Sonia Gandhi and mirrors the tenacious nature of his CM post, he said. On Prime Ministers comments on Telangana formation, the BJP leader said that he had only expressed the opinion that the UPA should have been more thoughtful while dividing the state. How can the government which has failed to honour guarantees given to youth, farmers, women and unemployed celebrate its anniversary? Is the government celebrating its taking a debt of Rs 75,000 crore in the last 11 months or creating fear in the minds of people by demolishing homes in the name of protection of lakes? Are you celebrating the hiked estimate of Rs 1.5 lakh to fill the pockets of your favoured contractors? he asked.
New EFLU student union vows to tackle administrative issues and student concerns
Hyderabad: Students of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) have elected a new student union on Wednesday, with key positions filled by representatives from diverse student organisations. However, the election process has sparked criticism due to procedural irregularities initiated by the administration, sidelining traditional democratic practices. Porika Vikas of the Democratic Students Front (DSF) was elected president, while Aardra A. from the Left Front secured the vice-president position. The general secretary post went to Deena Elsa George, also from the Left Front. Other elected representatives include Noora Maisoon (joint secretary, Students for Social Justice), Nella Soumya (cultural secretary, DSF), and Arbaz Aman (sports secretary, United Students Front). This years elections departed from established norms, as the administration skipped crucial steps such as dissolving the outgoing student union through a General Body Meeting. The student-run Election Commission of EFLUs democratic process, was also bypassed. Instead, the administration announced a faculty-run Election Commission and notified the election process at the last minute. The notification for both the faculty-run Election Commission and the elections at the eleventh hour was a denial of the student bodys rights. The student union elections are supposed to be a democratic, student-run process with very little interference from the administration. We will ensure that it stays this way from now on, said general secretary Deena Elsa George, expressing dissatisfaction with the administrative overreach. The Left Front, contesting as an independent panel, achieved significant victories, securing three major posts, including vice-president and general secretary, alongside the ICC PhD Representative position. All seven of their candidates for councillor positions across different schools were also elected. Reflecting on the campaign, George said, One of the biggest goals that me and my organisation had with the elections was to try to bring about a wider politicisation of the student community on campus, so we will be working forward on that front. The newly-elected union has pledged to prioritise several pressing issues, including the establishment of a Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GS-CASH), a demand that remains unmet despite repeated calls from the student community. Past years have been turbulent with multiple issues with the administration. One of the student communitys demands was to set up a GS-CASH on campus, which has not happened yet. Therefore, there will be efforts towards bringing that change on campus with the support of the student body, George told Deccan Chronicle. The union also intends to address everyday challenges faced by students, ranging from academic issues to accommodation concerns. These are the bigger demands, but there are also ground-level issues of the students which need to be addressed, in terms of academics, accommodation, etc., which also well be working towards, George added.
DCA raids unlicensed shops, seizes drugs
Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) officials carried out a series of raids across Telangana, uncovering illegal drug stocks and products being sold with misleading advertisements. The officials raided an unlicensed premise in Thanamcherla village of Maripeda Mandal in Mahbubabad where drugs were being illegally stored for sale. The authorities seized drugs worth Rs 53,691, which included physicians samples, expired medications and institutional supply drugs. In a separate action, the DCA also targeted clinics operated by unqualified practitioners, seizing illegally stocked drugs intended for sale in various locations, including Chowdarpally village in Mahabubnagar, Sugur village in Wanaparthy and Adasarlapadu village in Khammam. Additionally, in Medchal, officials seized medicines such as Feroze-XT Tablets (ferrous ascorbate, folic acid and zinc tablets), which were being falsely marketed as 'food products/nutraceuticals.' The DCA also confiscated several medicines across the state due to misleading claims in advertisements. These included Volirun oil, an Ayurvedic product falsely claimed to treat rheumatism; tulasi leaf choornam, marketed as a cure for fevers; Ed Phenicol Eye Capsules, advertised for the prophylaxis and treatment of eye infections and urisis kit, an Ayurvedic medicine falsely promoted as a treatment for kidney stones.
Skin infection spreads in welfare school
Patients suffering from skin infections and ailments used to be around 200 usually, but the number has now increased to 300 (Representational Image) Patients suffering from skin infections and ailments used to be around 200 usually, but the number has now increased to 300 (Representational Image) Hyderabad: Nearly 50 students at the PTG Social Welfare Residential School in Mannanur, Nagarkurnool, have been affected with skin infections like ringworm and scabies, according to health officials. However, the school stated that the number was only 27. Students developed rashes on their hands, stomachs and fingers. In 14 cases, small bumps appeared on private parts. District medical officer Dr Goutham P., who personally treated the students, said, Most of the cases were scabies. We administered antibiotics, chloroxylenol and benzoic acid and injections, including TT. He added that their condition was improving and a follow-up health check would be conducted next week. Principal Govardhan I. acknowledged that poor sanitation facilities were also adding to the situation. There are only nine washrooms for over 500 students, and even those are not in good condition. Many children have no choice but to use open areas, which is one of the reasons for these infections, he said. He also suspects that some of the students who returned from Dasara holidays contracted the infection to others. The incident raised eyebrows after initial reports that over 400 students from the school were affected. Women and child welfare department had stated that the actual number was far lower.

Telangana HC questions arrest of Patnam Narender Reddy
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday questioned the Telangana police as to why they had not informed the family members of Patnam Narender Reddy about his arrest. Justice K. Lakshman made this observation while dealing with a criminal petition filed by former BRS MLA Narender Reddy, seeking quashing of the Docket Order dated November 13, 2024. Gandra Mohan Rao, senior counsel for Narender Reddy, submitted that the petitioner was arrested from the KBR park, while he was on a morning walk, and police had not informed the arrest of the petitioner to his family members. He brought to the notice of the court about the leakage of alleged confessional statements released by police, stating that the petitioner had agreed to the conspiracy to incite violence at the behest of BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao. The senior counsel contended that the case was lodged with political motive and the trial court, without considering the facts and provisions, routinely accepted the remand of Narender Reddy. Public prosecutor Palle Nageshwar Rao, however, refuted the arguments of the senior counsel and said that Narender Reddy was arrested from his house and submitted that the police had followed due procedure in arresting the petitioner. During the hearing, the court asked the public prosecutor as to why the information pertaining to the arrest of the petitioner was not informed to his family members, if he was arrested in the house and why it was informed to his close associate Saleem. Thereby, the judge observed, the police have violated the procedure of arrest. The court further observed that the petitioner is a former MLA and he could not have run away from the arrest, had he been arrested from the house. The arrest of the petitioner from KBR Park is in violation of the arrest procedure and the police arrested him as if he was a terrorist. The court also said that the police cannot arrest Narender Reddy only on the ground of conspiracy as the government alleges him of instigating farmers and others against parting with their land. Going by call records, the court says Narender Reddy called the farmers 10 to 15 days prior to the Lagcharla incident, while his close associate has not made not more than one or two calls per day. So how can this case fall under the category of conspiracy, the court questioned the public prosecutor. The judge directed the public prosecutor to furnish the statements of Lakshmiah and two others, based on which the name of Narender Reddy was included in the Second Remand Report dated November 13, 2024. On the request of the PP, the court adjourned the hearing to Thursday.
Telangana WSWs Month-Long Campaign Rescues 66 Children
Hyderabad: The Women Safety Wing (WSW) of Telangana police rescued 66 children from hazardous industries and work environments during the pan-India action month between October 21 and November 20. This month-long drive focused on identifying and rescuing children and adolescents involved in hazardous industries. Speaking on this occasion, Shikha Goel, DG, WSW, emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation and community involvement in combating child trafficking. The WSW held an online convergence meeting with AHTU police officers, child welfare officers, and NGOs on November 4 to prepare for the operation. Through an analysis of past crimes, the teams identified vulnerable pockets such as unregulated industrial units, brick kilns and areas where children are employed illegally. Based on this, efforts were made to rescue children involved in child labour, bonded labour and forced begging. Our teams conducted extensive searches in areas like railway stations, bus stations, religious places, traffic junctions, mechanic shops, brick industries, huge construction spots, shops, tea stalls and footpaths, she explained. The campaign rescued 66 children, registered 35 FIRs and 37 awareness programs conducted across the state. During this special drive, Cyberabad AHTU has rescued 27 children and registered 24 FIRs, the highest in the state. Additionally, 819 children rescued through Smile and Muskan Operations were enrolled in schools. This year, so far, 1,159 children have received a total of Rs 54.61 lakh in back wages through 435 bank accounts.
Telangana: Scammer posing as fake supplier, defrauds business man of Rs 6 lakh
Hyderabad: A businessman from Keesara, who was looking for coconut suppliers, ended up contacting a scammer and lost money to the tune of Rs 6.5 lakh after finalising a deal with the swindler. A case has been registered by the Rachakonda cybercrime police and the investigation is underway. The victim a 40-year-old trader Santosh T. was searching for coconut supplier online, and stumbled upon a fraudster Sharath. The duo had a discussion about the requirements and the deal was struck. To appear things real, Sharath showed fake quotations and asked the business man Santosh to pay Rs 50,000 as advance. Over a period of two months, the scammer was successful in luring the victim to transfer a sum of `6 lakh in his bank account. The accused provided the victim with invoices, weighing bills, and details about the shipment of the consignment. Santosh, in his complaint to the cybercrime police, stated that he was tracking the delivery of the consignment but it never reached Hyderabad. When Santosh asked Sharath about the delivery of the goods, he was told that transporting vehicle had some issues and stopped taking his calls further. Sharath also forwarded the fake transaction details (like RTGS and IMPS) claiming that the money had been refunded to the victims bank account. But the money was not returned. The scammer then sent post-dated cheques through a third party to the complainant, which also bounced. The victim then approached the Rachakonda cybercrime unit where a case was registered and a probe was launched.
Telangana: CM Revanth Defends Land Acquisition for Industries
Hyderabad : Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the Congress government was acquiring lands to establish industries and tackle the problem of unemployment by generating more jobs. Addressing a public meeting in Vemulawada on Wednesday, he said that land acquisition was essential for development and industrial growth. To support the affected landowners, the state government is offering significantly higher compensation tripling land values in areas where acquisitions are taking place, addressing the inadequacies of the current land acquisition act, which provides lower compensation, he maintained. The existing Land acquisition Act does not provide adequate compensation to farmers and landowners, who lose their lands for development projects, he said. To address this, I directed the chief secretary and district collectors to revise land values set by the state government. The revised compensation will be three times the existing value. For instance, a farmer receiving 10 lakh under the old Act will now receive Rs 30 lakh. These changes will encourage farmers to willingly hand over their lands for development projects, he said. The Chief Minister highlighted their approach, contrasting it with the policies of the BRS government. He accused the opposition of using owdy gangs to disrupt land acquisition efforts and creating hurdles for projects aimed at providing employment. Reddy alleged that the BRS government had forcibly acquired lakhs of acres for the Kaleshwaram project. This submerged 16 villages and the farmers were never adequately compensated. In stark contrast, the Congress government was acquiring only 1,100 acres of non-agricultural land across four villages in Kodangal for industrial development, he pointed out. I am not acquiring lakhs of acres like the BRS leaders did. My goal is to bring industries to my constituency and provide jobs to our youth. Why is the BRS opposing this he questioned. He accused the BRS government of mismanaging irrigation projects. He claimed that former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao prioritised personal and familial interests and constructed Kondapochamma sagar and Ranganayakasagar projects to benefit farmhouses owned by his family members. Rao spent over Rs 1.80 lakh crore on irrigation projects in 10 years but failed to provide any tangible irrigation facilities to farmers. Konda Pochamma sagar project was designed to supply water to his farmhouse, while Ranganayaka sagar project was earmarked for the farmhouse owned by his nephew Harish Rao, Revanth alleged. He took aim at Chandrashekar Raos family, particularly his son K.T. Rama Rao and newphew T. Harish Rao, for using inflammatory language against Congress leaders. Will he condone the language used by his son and nephew? Shouldnt we be setting up industries and providing jobs instead of obstructing development? he asked. Revanth Reddy accused Harish Rao of illegally transferring government-acquired lands for his personal use. He has a history of encroaching lands meant for public projects, including those under the Ranganayaka sagar project. Why is the opposition now showing hostility towards my constituency Kodangal, when I am trying to acquire lands to set up industries? he wondered. Our government is focused on balancing development with the rights of farmers and landowners, he said, promising transparency and accountability in all land acquisitions. The Chief Minister vowed to complete the Narayanpet-Kodangal lift irrigation project and push forward industrialisation initiatives despite opposition resistance.

Telangana: Roundtable meet on water concept held
Hyderabad: Dr M. Channa Reddy Memorial Trust organised a roundtable conference on the 'Four-Water Concept,' a proven watershed development model, proposed by Late T. Hanumanth Rao in Vikarabad on Wednesday. The event, called for sustainable solutions to address the districts water issues and contribute to the proposed Musi Riverfront Development project, saw participants who advocated for the implementation of Hanumanth Rao's Four-Water Concept. The trust questioned the Rs 7,000-crore Kodangal Lift Scheme, which aims to irrigate one lakh acres at a cost ofRs 7 lakh per acre, suggested instead a watershed programme costing just Rs 15,000 per acre. This approach, they argued, could revitalise agriculture in Vikarabad and boost the water flow in the Musi River, which originates in the district. Assembly Speaker and Vikarabad MLA G. Prasad Kumar assured full support for the trusts proposal, stating that such initiatives could bring much-needed relief to the district. Elaborating on this proposal, Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, environmentalist and member of the trust Prof. Purushotham Reddy and experts from WAPCOS, Ministry of Jal Shakti, also shared insights on leveraging technology for effective watershed management. A presentation was given on Hanumanth Raos model, which showed how it has been operational at Gottigaripalli village in Zaheerabad since 2001, has consistently supported three crops annually. It showed that despite its demonstrated success, it has received little attention in Telangana. Rajasthan, however, adopted the concept between 2013 and 2018 and has improved groundwater levels. The trust also proposed implementing the concept in the Musi River sub-basin to enhance its flow as part of the Musi project.
