BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh becomes first state to declare The Sabarmati Report movie tax-free
BHOPAL:The BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, became on Monday afternoon, the first state in the country, to declare the recently released Hindi movie, The Sabarmati Report tax-free. The significant announcement was made by the central Indian states CM Dr Mohan Yadav in Bhopal. The events of the past have been presented factually in the film. The film is being made tax-free so that more and more people can watch it. I too will watch the movie, which will also be watched by my ministers, MLAs and MPs. I hope this movie brings out the true reality of the black chapter of the past, which has largely been distorted due to vote bank politics, Yadav added. Importantly, the MP CM made the key announcement just a few hours before he flew to Gujarat to hold talks with the states CM and ministers over a host of issues. The announcement was made just a day after PM Narendra Modi (who was the Gujarat CM during the time of the horrific incident and subsequent riots), while referring to The Sabarmati Report movie, had stated on social media, Its good that this truth is coming out. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Adding to the PMs praise for the movie, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted on social media, No matter how hard a powerful ecosystem tries, it cannot keep the truth hidden in darkness forever. Released last week, the Vikrant Massey and Raashii Khanna-starrer movie is based on the 2002 Godhra train burning tragedy, in which 59 people, mostly Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from a ceremony in Ayodhya, died in a fire. This is the second movie within eight months to have been declared tax-free by the MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav. Prior to it, in March, the CM had declared Yami Gautam-starrer Article 370 tax-free in the central Indian state. Article 370 focused on the rise of terrorism in Kashmir and the governments fight against it, including the abrogation of Article 370 by the Narendra Modi government on August 5, 2019, ending the special status given toJammu and Kashmir. The government, however, didnt give a similar tax benefit to the Pankaj Tripathi-starrer movie Mai Atal Hoon , which was a biopic on former PM and BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Importantly Vajpayees Indore-based niece Mala Tiwari had written to PM Narendra Modi in January, to make themovie Mai Atal Hoon tax-freefor infusing the spirit of nationalism among youths. Before it, in May 2023, then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had declared the Hindi movie, The Kerala Story tax-free and also watched the movie with the films cast and crew in Bhopal. In June 2022, Chouhan had declared Akshay Kumar-starrer Samrat Prithviraj tax-free, just two months after granting similar benefits to Anupam Kher-starrer, The Kashmir Files . But its not just BJP regimes that have declared movies tax-free in MP, as even the 15-months-old Kamal Nath-led Congress regime, had declared Deepika Padukone-starrer Chhapaak (based on the real-life struggle of an acid attack survivor) and Taapsee Pannu-starrer Thappad (which dealt with issue of domestic violence) tax-free in the state.

Movie on Godhra train burning incident to be made tax-free in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government announced on Tuesday that it will make The Sabarmati Report , a film based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident, tax-free in the state. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made this announcement and said he will also go to watch the movie. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film delves into the events surrounding the Godhra train burning, which sparked widespread communal riots in Gujarat. 'The Sabarmati Report' is a very good movie. I will go to watch the movie myself. I also told my ministers, MLAs and MPs to watch this film. We are also going to make it tax free in the state so that maximum people can watch it, Yadav told reporters here. Hindi movie The Sabarmati Report declared tax free in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was Gujarat's chief minister at the time, for safeguarding the honour of both the state and the nation during the crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, said a fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time, while referring to The Sabarmati Report film. Well said. Anti-Maoist Hawk Force jawan critically injured in Maoist encounter in MP's Balaghat jungles
BHOPAL: Continued anti-Maoists operations of Madhya Pradesh police in Maoists-infested jungles of Balaghat district suffered a jolt on Sunday, after a frontline jawan of the state polices Hawk Force, was critically wounded in exchange of fire with the outlaws. The anti-Maoist special Hawk Forces special operations group (SOG) jawan identified as Shiv Kumar Sharma (a native of Morena district) was hit by a bullet fired by the outlaws in the Kundal jungles under Songuda police outpost in Balaghat district on Sunday afternoon. The incident happened when the Hawk Force teams were on aggressive combing operations in the jungles leading to an exchange of fire with the outlaws. With the outlaws being on a higher and better vantage point, they were in a better firing position, which saw the bullet fired by them piercing into the head of the Hawk Force jawan. Sharma was rushed by road to a hospital in the adjoining Gondia district of Maharashtra, where he is currently stable at the ICU. The entire top brass of the MP police, include the DGP Sudhir Saxena, the ADG-Intelligence Yogesh Deshmukh and IG- law and order and anti-naxal operations Anshuman Singh flew from Bhopal to Balaghat on directions by the MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav on Monday. The senior police officers from the state police HQ visited the hospital in Maharashtras Gondia district and took stock of the critically injured jawans condition and treatment. The MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav also talked to the doctors at the hospital over phone and gathered information about the injured jawan and asked them to render the best treatment. The MP polices top brass also held a detailed meeting with the entire security mechanism engaged in the anti-Maoist operations. Importantly, three districts of eastern MP, including Balaghat, Mandla and Dindori are categorised as Maoist-affected districts of MP, where multiple Dalams (self-sustained units of the left-wing extremists) are operating with the bigger objective of spreading up to Amarkantak plateau in Anuppur district, which will render them a central position to connect between MP, Chhattisgarh and other states. This is the first time that the anti-Maoist Hawk Force (which was formed in 2001) has suffered a jolt in the form of a serious injury to one of its ranks in MP. The MP police which have gunned down 20 wanted Maoists cadres in the last five years and arrested six big Maoist cadres carrying Rs 1.52 crores collective bounty, has reportedly sought two more CAPF battalions from the central government for better operationalization of its anti-Maoist operations.

4 engineers suspended for shifting Scindia statue in objectionable manner
BHOPAL: Four engineers were suspended over shifting of the statue of former union minister late Madhavrao Scindia in an objectionable manner in Madhya Pradeshs Katni district, officials said. A video of the statue being shifted with the help of an earthmoving machine, with a noose tied around the statues neck, emerged on social media, on Saturday evening. According to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials, construction work of NH 30 Katni-Bypass Road is underway. The statue of Madhavrao Scindia, father of union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, was already installed there and permission was obtained to move it to a new identified place to carry out the work. The Katni bypass of National Highway-30 is being widened as a four-lane road. During the construction of the stretch, the statue of Madhavrao Scindia, already installed at the Chaka bypass, was to be shifted by the administration after identifying another place for it. However, the construction agency removed the statue on Saturday in an objectionable manner with the help of an earthmoving machine, an NHAI official said. The matter was brought to the knowledge of local BJP MP and state party president VD Sharma, who while expressing his strong displeasure over the incident, termed it as an insult to the former union minister. Subsequently strict action was taken by the administration on the instructions of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Engineers of the construction agency concerned and NHAI were suspended. According to the MP governments official statement, senior engineer of the construction agency, Manoj Verma, engineer Ashish Singh Parihar, authority engineer of National Highway Authority of India, team leader Rajesh Kumar Nema and assistant bridge engineer Deepak Soni were suspended.
Shunned by mother, tiger cub starves to death in MP reserve
Bhopal : A tiger cub, abandoned by its mother for being weak, died of hunger in the Pench National Park in Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Sunday. The four-month-old cub was found dead in Khedighat under Magor Katha forest range in the Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) by a patrolling party at around 9.45 am on Sunday, deputy director of PTR Rajneesh Singh said. The cub was literally reduced to bones and it appeared to have not taken any food for some days, a forest officer of the reserve said. Carcass of a cow was spotted lying barely around 15 ft from the body of the cub, which indicates that it had hardly the strength to move that far to feed on it, the forest officer, unwilling to be quoted, said. Camera trap footage has clearly shown that the tigress along with her other cub was feeding on the carcass of the cow while the sick cub was lying at a distance. Even the mother tiger did not bother to look at the sick cub, the forest officer said. Prima facie, it appears the tiger cub died of hunger after being abandoned by its mother, he added. The big cats including the female tigers usually abandon their cubs who were found to be weak to look after the stronger siblings. This is the natural trait of the big cats, wildlife expert and veterinary doctor Akhilesh Mishra said. There were no signs of any kind of foul play in the death of the tiger cub, the PTR sources said. The carcass of the tiger cub will be sent to the veterinary research Centre in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh for forensic tests to ascertain the exact cause of its death, the PTR sources said. The PTR has 123 tigers.
Two fake call centres busted in Madhya Pradesh in three days, 29 arrested for aiding cyber fraud
BHOPAL:Two fake call centres indulging and aiding cyber frauds have been busted in two separate parts of Madhya Pradesh in the last three days. The first fake call centre was busted in the obscure Shamgarh town of western MPs Mandsaur district on November 14, with the arrest of 22 youngsters, 18 of them being girls. Importantly, the majority of those arrested by the state polices cyber cell from Mandsaur, hail from two villages Kanwla and Dhanpur. The Kanwla village, which is also nicknamed MPs mini Goa owing to its scenic location near the backwaters of the Gandhi Sagar Dam, has emerged as the hub of the fake call centre, as most of those arrested as well as the absconding head of the centre Kushal Kewat, hail from that village only. The fake call centre worked on the basis of a fake diamond research company website and related fake app. The rackets mastermind managed to get the details of demat account holders from across the country, after which the call centre employees (who were paid between Rs 4500 to Rs 5000 monthly besides additional incentives) trapped these account holders promising big returns on their investments in blue chip companies. Those who fell in the fake call centres trap were shown inflated returns on their investments, but when they demanded their investments back, the phone numbers through which they were contacted were switched off forever, DIG of state polices cyber cell Mohd Yusuf Qureshi told this newspaper on Sunday. After busting the fake call centre, the police are now hunting for the absconding head of the fake call centre, Kushal Kewat, whose arrests will further help the investigators, dig deep into the inter-state links of the racket, particularly as Kewat has worked in the past in stock broking/investments facilities in Mandsaur, adjoining Rajasthan and Indore. Though the investigations are right now in the incipient stages, still the probe so far makes us believe that the demat account holders across the country, couldve been duped of crores of rupees, since July, when the fake call centre was functioning, Qureshi said. Two days after the fake call centre was busted in Mandsaur district, cops in Hanumanganj area of the state capital Bhopal, unearthed another fake call centre, being operated by youngsters hailing from Bihars Patna, Jehanabad and Nalanda districts. Seven youngsters, including a 21-year-old woman from Patna (all aged between 18 and 26 years) have so far been arrested. The arrested men and a woman first created fake identification proofs and then used those documents to open bank accounts. These accounts were later used for parking proceeds of cyber fraud by the racket members or else sold to other cyber fraudsters for Rs 10,000 per account. Before running the fake call centre in Bhopal, the alleged fraudsters had indulged in similar frauds from other cities of the country, including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Indore and Hyderabad.

NIZAMABAD : A vibrant crowd gathered for a Mushaira, a popular Urdu literary event, at the Koja Colony ground in Nizamabad on Saturday. MP: Canine Distemper Virus Infection Looms in Panna Tiger Reserve
Bhopal: Mass vaccination of stray dogs in and around Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Madhya Pradesh has begun amid the threat of the spread of canine distemper virus (CDV) infection in the wild animals of the PTR, a senior forest officer said on Saturday. The initiative was launched on Friday owing to detection of prevalence of canine distemper virus in some stray dogs in and around the PTR, field director of PTR, Anjana Suchita Tirkey, told this newspaper. Around 1150 stray dogs in 36 forested villages located in the buffer zone of PTR will be vaccinated over the next three and half months in two phases, she added. The CDV is a highly contagious and potentially fatal viral disease that affects a dogs respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. According to the PTR field director, one tiger and two leopards had died in the reserve due to the CDV in 2015. We cannot take risk after finding the prevalence of the virus in some dogs and hence, we have launched the initiative to vaccinate the stray dogs in and around PTR to protect the wild animals from the infection of the virus, the forest officer said. The PTR now has 62 tigers and over 500 leopards, according to the forest officer. The reserve shot into limelight by successfully reintroducing tigers after the big cat population was wiped out by poaching in 2009. The Panna Tiger Project began with the relocation of three tigers: two tigresses from Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Parks and one male tiger from Pench National Park in Madhya Pradesh. In the next six years, three female tigers and one male tiger were relocated to the PTR from other national parks in Madhya Pradesh. The tiger population in the PTR has grown from zero in 2009 to 62 now.
UP ministers driver, PSO attacked in Madhya Pradesh, four arrested
BHOPAL: The personal security officer (PSO) and vehicle driver of an Uttar Pradesh minister were allegedly attacked by a group of local residents in broad daylight, in the minister's presence, in Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh. The incident happened on Friday evening when the UP minister of state for labour and employment Manohar Lal Mannu Kori was on his vehicle from Agra to Lalitpur. According to informed sources, a truck overturned near Jorasi Ghati, under the Bilauva police station area in Gwalior district, causing a severe traffic jam. Without waiting for the follow-up and pilot vehicles stuck in the congestion, the driver of the SUV carrying the minister decided to take a wrong turn and move ahead. The minister was on his way to attend a series of events in his native Lalitpur district of UP. A short distance ahead on the same road, a motorbike carrying two men blocked the ministers vehicle, leading to a noisy brawl between the men and the ministers PSO. Angered by the misconduct of the two men, the ministers PSO stepped out of the vehicle and slapped one of them. This further escalated the situation, as the men, being local residents, called villagers for support, leading to a full-blown confrontation between both sides. Around 8 to 10 men arrived at the scene and attacked the ministers PSO and the vehicle driver. The attackers allegedly took the PSO's service pistol and continued to beat him up in public. The PSO sustained cuts to one of his fingers during the incident. Upon learning of the incident, local police, led by senior officials including the IG, DIG of Gwalior, and the SP of Gwalior, arrived at the scene. A case was subsequently registered against the accused at the Bilauva police station in Gwalior late Friday evening. Four accused, who were primarily involved in the incident were traced and arrested promptly and the service gun of the ministers PSO too was recovered. The minister left with proper escort vehicles in the night for Lalitpur district of UP, SP of Gwalior district Dharmaveer Singh told TNIE on Saturday. The accused, including Bunty Yadav, Kaptan Yadav, Bhola and Bhupendra have been booked for loot and assault. The incident provided ammunition for opposition parties to target the MP government. The incident which happened with the UP minister and staff in Gwalior on Friday exposes the state of law and order in the state. The MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav, who is also the states home minister, should take immediate steps to ensure that there is fear of law and order among anti-social elements, Aam Aadmi Partys state spokesperson Ramakant Patel said.

Woman who fought off wolves, man who rescued seven from car accident to get Rs 1 lakh each in MP
BHOPAL: Two brave-hearts, including a 65-year-old woman Bhujlo Bai and a middle-aged plumber Waris Khan, have been awarded Rs 1 lakh each as a cash reward by the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav in two days. Bhujlo Bai, the 65-year-old woman, who despite being badly injured in a wolf attack, not only fought the wolf but saved another woman Durga Bai before killing the canine familys predator in Chhindwara district, got a surprise video call from the MP CM on Wednesday. Bhujlo, currently being treated at the Chhindwara district hospital, was sleeping along with 55-year-old Durgabai in the field near Khakra Chaurai village under Amarwara range of Chhindwara district when a wolf attacked Bhujlo Bai and chewed off the thumb of one of her hands. Hearing her screams, Durgabai rushed to save Bhujlo Bai, but by then the wolf had inflicted injuries on Bhujlo Bais hand and head. The struggle between the elderly lady and the wolf continued for half an hour. But the courageous woman not only fought the wolf, despite being badly injured but ultimately killed the predator of the canine family by attacking it with a shovel. Both the women were subsequently admitted at Chhindwara district hospital, but Durgabai, who sustained minor wounds was discharged from the hospital in a few days. While enquiring about the well-being of the elderly woman (who is currently admitted at the Chhindwara district hospital), the CM appreciated her courage over a video call on Wednesday. He subsequently sanctioned Rs 1 lakh to her from the CM Discretionary Fund. For the proper treatment of Bhujlo Bai, the Chhindwara district collector has been asked that if necessary, she be airlifted and treated in Bhopal. A day later on Thursday night, the CM made a video call to another brave heart, this time to middle-aged plumber Waris Khan, who had saved the lives of seven members of a family (hailing from Shivpuri district) in a road mishap in Rajgarh district on Wednesday. The CM told Khan that he would instruct the Rajgarh Collector to take his account number and the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to him. I would like to congratulate Waris Khan for saving the lives of seven members of a family after a car they were travelling in met with an accident, near Biaora, Rajgarh on Wednesday, November 13, CM Yadav told journalists. The car in which the victims were travelling fell into a ditch. The family, residents of Shivpuri, were going for medical purposes. Waris Khan, a resident of Biaora, was passing nearby on a bike and as soon as he saw the car, he stopped and saved the lives of people in the car, he added. The CM told the Collector of Rajgarh that they should honour Khan on next Independence Day.

The unprecedented violence particularly in tribal, minority and scheduled caste voters villages which started before the by-poll continued after the polling also, said state Congress president Jitu Patwari alleged on Thursday. He said that the houses of the Jatav community were set ablaze and the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was vandalized in a village by the BJP people, a few hours after the polling. He also said that a sector officer was assaulted in front of the cops during polling, which speaks volumes about how the BJP people unleashed a reign of violence to stop tribals, minority and SC voters from exercising their franchise on Wednesday. Much before the polls, we had demanded sealing the MP-Rajasthan border to stop the entry of criminals from the adjoining state, but the election authorities didnt do anything and the result was that criminals from Rajasthan working for the ruling party terrorised and attacked tribal voters in various villages to stop them from voting against the BJP, Patwari said. Patwari said that a list of 37 polling stations where voting has been marred by violence, booth capturing and bogus voting has been submitted. We have demanded from the Election Commission of India (ECI) re-polling at these 37 polling stations. We were confident of winning the Vijaypur by-poll by over 50,000 votes, but despite violence and unfair practices in polling, were certain to win the by-election by 25,000-plus votes. Well hold a state-wide protest on Friday to protest targeting of tribal, SC and minority voters by the BJP people, Patwari said. The ruling BJP, however, denied the Congress state presidents allegations. States cabinet minister Prahlad Singh Patel said in Delhi, It's unimaginable why the ruling party which is confident of winning the elections will resort to violence and unfair practices. Since Congress knows that its losing both Vijaypur and Budhni by-elections, its making false allegations to dent the ruling partys image. For six terms our candidate in Vijaypur constituency Ramniwas Rawat was a Congress MLA from the same seat, by accusing the BJP candidate of resorting to violence and unfair practices, does the Congress want to say that he won the last six polls as Congress candidate in similar manner, he added. The Sheopur district police superintendent (Vijaypur is part of Sheopur district) Virendra Jain, meanwhile, said that a few hours after the polling on Wednesday, some disturbance between two rival groups was reported in Gohta village. Our teams rushed to the village but found reports of houses of a particular community having been set afire, being false. Only a large portion of Bajra straw was burning in the village. On Thursday morning, our teams again rushed to the same village on the village chowkidars complaint about the vandalization of a stone plaque bearing Dr BR Ambedkars image, which was found true. Some anti-social elements seem to have committed the act to disturb the peace in the village. A case has been registered against the unidentified accused and investigations are underway, Jain told TNIE. Importantly, over 76% of polling was reported in Budhni and Vijaypur assembly by-polls on Wednesday in MP. In Vijaypur, six-times former Congress MLA and current forest minister in the states BJP government Ramniwas Rawat is the ruling party candidate against the Congresss tribal leader Mukesh Malhotra, who is an ex-BJP leader.

41 Ai-based e-check gates coming up to prevent illegal mineral transportation in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: Artificial Intelligence (AI) based e-check gates are being established in Madhya Pradesh to stop illegal transportation of minerals in the state, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said on Thursday. Vehicles involved in mineral transportation will be monitored using varifocal cameras, RFID readers, and automatic number plate recognition systems at the 41 e-check gates being set up across the state. As a pilot project, work has already started by installing e-check gates at 4 places on an important route for mineral transportation. Command and Control Centres have been established at the state level in Bhopal, along with District Command Centres in Bhopal and Raisen districts, to monitor and prevent illegal transportation. The target is to establish all 41 e-check gates by 2024-end. According to the MP CM, a satellite and drone-based project has also been started to prevent illegal mining in the state. Through this, all 7,000 mines in the state have been geo-tagged and the mine area has been marked off. When this project is fully implemented, illegal mining can be identified and effectively prevented. The quantity of excavated minerals can be accurately assessed by doing 3-D imaging and volumetric analysis inside the approved mine.
Bhopal Diary | Scindia stays away from Vijaypur bypoll campaign
Despite Vijaypur assembly seat (one of the two seats where bypolls were held on Wednesday) being part of Gwalior-Chambal region, one of the senior BJP leaders from the area and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stayed away from party candidate and MP forest minister Ramniwas Rawats campaign. Rawat, the six-time former Congress MLA, despite being close to Scindia family, did not follow Scindia from Congress into the BJP in March 2020. Not only did Rawat stay back in Congress, but was also critical of Scindia for crossing over to BJP in 2020. Scindia was opposed to Rawats induction in the BJP during Lok Sabha polls. Madhya Pradesh: By-Elections in Budhni, Vijapur Record 74% Polling
The by-elections had a healthy voting percentage of 76.71 percent. The by-elections had a healthy voting percentage of 76.71 percent. Bhopal: By-elections to Budhni and Vijaypur Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday recorded an impressive voters turnout of around 74 percent by six pm, even as the ruling BJP and Opposition Congress traded charges of rigging against each other. Reports reaching the office of the chief electoral officer (CEO) here said that an average of around 74 percent polling was witnessed in the by-elections to the two Assembly seats by six pm. While by-elections in Vijapur witnessed 75.27 percent polling by six pm, Budhni recorded 72.37 percent of polling. Vijaypura is witnessing a bipolar contest between BJP candidate and state forest minister Ram Niwas Rawat and Congress nominee Mukesh Malhota in a multi-cornered fight. Mr Rawat, the sitting MLA in the seat, had resigned from the Congress and subsequently from the Assembly to join the BJP before the recent Lok Sabha polls necessitating by-elections in the constituency. Budhni Assembly seat fell vacant when the sitting MLA and Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was elected to the Lok Sabha in the last elections. BJPs Ramakant Bhargav, a former MP, is pitted against Congress Raj Kumar Patel, a former minister, in Budhni. Reports reaching here said that Congress supporters staged demonstration in front of Birpur police station under Vijaypur Assembly constituency alleging rigging in Telipiur polling booth under the constituency. Congress also alleged booth capturing and rigging in some other polling booths under Vijaypur Assembly constituency. The Election Commission should take note of the situation, state Congress president Jitu Patwari said. State BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma also made similar charges against Congress and said that the EC should take action in the matter. BJP has also lodged a complaint with the EC alleging that the supporters of the Congress candidate in Budhni attacked BJP workers and other people and pelted stones at them.
Over 76 per cent polling reported in twin assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal: More than 76 per cent polling was reported in the two assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. While union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhans bastion Budhni reported 75.05 per cent voting, the Vijaypur seat reported a slightly higher 77.42 per cent voter turnout till the filing of this news report. While the by-poll to Budhni seat of central MP was necessitated by the resignation of ex-MP CM and current Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan following his election to Lok Sabha earlier this year, Vijaypur seat of Gwalior-Chambal went to by-poll due to resignation by its six-times sitting Congress MLA Ramniwas Rawat, who as the state forest minister in present MP government is in the fray now as BJP candidate. Polling in Vijaypur, however, was marred by group clashes, protests by villagers and allegations of bogus voting and booth capturing. The Sheopur district election officer Kishor Kanyal, while refuting reports of booth capturing and bogus voting, admitted that a clash between two groups resulted in injury to at least four persons in one place. He also added that some minor incidents were reported from other places in the constituency, but the polling process remained unaffected. Till now no case has been registered against anyone anywhere. As a precautionary measure, both the prime candidates, the BJPs Ramniwas Rawat and Congresss Mukesh Malhotra, were confined to separate guest houses in two different parts of the constituency, Kanyal said. Also, both the state presidents of BJP and Congress, VD Sharma and Jitu Patwari respectively, were prevented by administration and police from entering the limits of Vijaypur assembly constituency of Sheopur district earlier in the day. The opposition Congress partys delegation led by its state media wing head Mukesh Nayak, submitted a detailed six-point complaint earlier in the day at the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO-MP) office in Bhopal. Talking to journalists after submitting the complaint, Nayak said, What happened in Vijaypur during the by-poll is unprecedented, never has anything like this happened in the history of electoral politics of the country. Police along with BJPs goons stopped the tribal and minority community voters from exercising their franchise. Our candidate in Vijaypur was kept in police custody and many of our party workers were unnecessarily targeted and detained by police in Vijaypur. Even in Budhni constituency, an Angawadi worker seated inside one of the booths, was campaigning for the BJP. The female voters were being told by that particular Anganwadi worker that failure to vote for the BJP will see them lose their benefits under the Ladli Behna Scheme from next month, Nayak alleged. Meanwhile, according to local media reports, voters of the Telipura polling booth protested outside the Virpur police station of the Vijaypur assembly constituency and later blocked the Sheopur-Morena road. The protesting tribal voters accused the OBC Rawat community (the community to which the forest minister and BJP candidate belong to) of stopping the tribal voters from exercising their franchise. In Andhipura village, villagers alleged that ruling BJP workers didnt allow them to vote, while similar allegations were made by voters of two other tribal-dominated villages, including Khadi.

MP: In a 1st, Victim of Digital Arrest Freed in Live Rescue
Bhopal: In a rare rescue, the police here freed a man who had been held in digital arrest for six hours at his own house by cyberfraudsters. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday narrated details of the operation that was carried out on November 9. This is perhaps the first such live rescue operation carried out by the Madhya Pradesh police in a case relating to the digital arrest of a person by cyberfraudsters, Yadav said. Acting on a tip-off by one Rajiv Oberoi, police went to the house of the victim, identified as Vivek Oberoi, and confronted the cyberfraudsters who were forcing him to share sensitive personal information including that of bank accounts of his and his family members. Vivek Oberoi, a corporate entrepreneur based in Dubai, was found locked inside a room in his own house. He was put under intense pressure by cyberfraudsters who posed as senior officers of different government agencies, state cybercell additional director-general Yogesh Deshmukh said. The scammers pretended to be from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Mumbai cybercrime branch, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and scared the victim into submission by saying that he was found to be involved in a money laundering case. They had coerced him to go live on Skype App to interact with him. They also threatened to arrest him and his family members and harm them if he revealed them about his digital arrest. The cyber fraudsters demanded that the police prove their identity when the latter confronted them. They switched off the video when they found that they were facing the real cops, the Chief Minister said.

Campaign Ends for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh By-Elections
Bhopal : Campaigning for the November 13 Assembly by-elections to two constituencies in Madhya Pradesh and one seat in Chhattisgarh ended on Monday evening. The upcoming by-elections to two Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh have generated much interest in the state for different reasons. Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhans political legacy has been put to test in the by-elections to the Budhni Assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh since his protg and former MP Ramakant Bhargav is seeking election from the seat, vacated by the former following his election to the Lok Sabha in the last polls. The Congress has fielded veteran leader Raj Kumar Patel, who was a minister in the Digvijay Singh cabinet, in the seat to take on Mr Bhargav. The Assembly constituency has a sizeable number of Karar community and both Mr Chouhan and Mr Patel belonged to the community. Congress feels that the party can at least divide Karar votes by fielding Mr Patel. Besides, Mr Patel who represented the Assembly seat in 1993 is considered the best bet for the party to give Mr Bhargav a run for his money in the by-elections, a Congress functionary said here on Monday. The BJP has however ruled out the possibility of Mr Patel dividing the Karar community votes in the by-elections. Mr Chouhan who represented Budhni five times has a strong sway over the people in the constituency. His influence over the voters in the constituency has remained undiminished in the last two decades, a BJP functionary said here. In the last Assembly polls, he had won the seat with a record margin of 1,64, 951 votes. In fact, his political legacy is put to test in the by-elections to Budhni, another BJP leader said. By-polls to Budhni necessitated the election of Mr Chouhan, sitting MLA, to the LS in the last elections. The second seat which is going to Assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh is Vijaypur where state forest minister Ram Niwas Rawat is seeking re-election from the seat as a BJP candidate. Mr Rawat, an eight-time MLA from the seat, had won the seat in the November 2023 Assembly elections as a Congress candidate. He however switched over to the BJP before the last LS elections and resigned from the house, necessitating the by-elections to Vijaypur. He is pitted against Mukesh Malhotra, a tribal leader, by Congress. In Raipur (South) Assembly seat in Chhattisgarh, BJP has fielded sitting MLA and former minister Brij Mohan Agrawals protg Sunil Soni to retain the constituency. Eight-time MLA Mr Agrawal was elected to LS in the last LS polls necessitating the by-elections to the Assembly seat. Congress has fielded youth leader Akash Sharma to take on Mr Soni.
ABVP staged a protest on the issue in Bhopal and warned that such incidents would not be tolerated under the rule of CM Mohan Yadav.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of promoting division for political gain. Chouhan emphasized national unity, stating, We are all sons of Mother India. He highlighted the BJP government's commitment to social justice for all, contrasting it with the opposition's divisive tactics.

Three-month-old elephant calf dies, jumbo toll at Bandhavgarh reaches 11
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradeshs Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) has suffered the loss of its eleventh elephant in less than a week. The latest casualty is a 3-month-old weak and ailing calf which was rescued by the BTR management from Panpatha jungles after being presumably abandoned by its herd members. According to L Krishnamurthy, the states Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), On Friday morning, the calf was found alone, unwell and unconscious after getting separated from the herd in compartment number RF 179 Patparaha Haar of Beat Kharibadi Tola of Panpatha Buffer Forest Range of BTR in Umaria district. A wildlife veterinarian team immediately reached the spot and treated it. For further treatment, the baby elephant was brought to Rama Elephant Camp of Range Tala, where it was being treated by the medical team camping at the spot. During the treatment, the elephant calf died on Sunday at 6:06 am. As per the SOP, post-mortem and disposal of the carcass is being done in the presence of senior forest officials, Krishnamurthy said in an official statement. This is the eleventh wild tusker casualty in BTR, whose jungles have since 2018, been home to wild elephant herds, migrating from adjoining Chhattisgarh. The calf, however, wasnt part of the 13-strong elephant herd which had lost ten of its members within three days last month. According to BTR sources, it was part of a different herd, which had possibly abandoned it for being weak and ailing. More than 60 wild elephants have been living in BTR jungles. During October 29-31, ten wild elephants forming part of a 13-strong herd had died.
Elephant Calf Dies in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Raising Toll to 11
BHOPAL: An elephant calf, separated from its herd and spotted in the buffer zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, died of suspected intestine infection on Sunday, a forest officer said. With the calfs death, the elephant toll in BTR in the last fortnight rose to 11. The two-month-old calf was rescued in the Chhatwal area falling under the buffer zone of BTR on Friday morning. It was suffering from intestine infection. It died on Sunday morning. The exact cause of death could however be ascertained in the postmortem report, divisional forest officer (DFO), BTR, P K Verma told this newspaper. The calf was part of a 12-member herd of elephants which had left it when it fell down, Mr Verma said. The elephant herd to which the calf belonged to was seen roaming in the nearby area, he said. Ten elephants, part of a separate 13-member herd, died over three days since October 29 in the BTR, triggering uproar in the conservation circles. The toxicity report of the ten dead elephants, submitted by the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), has indicated that the deaths may have been caused due to the consumption of kodo millet crops. However, the exact cause of deaths of the elephants could be known after other agencies, where their samples were sent, submitted their reports, a senior forest officer here said.

Madhya Pradesh: No Decision Yet on Cheetah Release in Kuno Park
Bhopal: Decision is yet to be taken on the release of cheetahs, kept in the large enclosures in the Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh since last one year, in the wild, a senior forest officer said on Saturday. Twelve adult cheetahs and an equal number of cubs have been shifted to the large enclosures in the national park since August last year for their regular health checkups after three felines succumbed to septicemia caused by maggot infestation. No decision has so far been taken on the release of the cheetahs in the wild in the KNP. All the agencies dealing with the cheetah project are reviewing the situation regularly. Hopefully, a decision in this regard may be taken very soon, a senior forest officer of KNP told this newspaper, requesting not to be quoted. Sources said that the steering committee on the cheetah project may sit in a couple of weeks to take a decision on the release of cheetahs in the wild in KNP. The cheetahs will be released in the wild in phases after examining their health. They will certainly not be released in one go, the forest officer said. The forest officer disclosed that the seven cheetah cubs who suffered from tick infestation earlier have now completely recovered. Usually, the cheetah cubs face the issue of tick infestation during monsoon. It is already a month since the monsoon has withdrawn, he added. All I can say is that all the 24 cheetahs in KNP are healthy and are ready to move to the wild. All of them have been kept in the large enclosures which are semi-wild, he said. Eight cheetahs were brought to the KNP from Namibia in September 2022 under the cheetah introduction project. Four months later, 12 more cheetahs were trans-located from South Africa to KNP. Some of the adult cheetahs and cubs, born in KNP, died due to various reasons in the last two years. The national park now has 24 cheetahs including 12 cubs.
Madhya Pradesh CM Accuses Congress of Patronising Bangladeshi Infiltrators
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Friday accused Congress of giving patronage to the Bangladeshi infiltrators in the country to use them as its vote bank. Mr Yadav said that the Congress always backed the infiltrators from Bangladesh in the country to cultivate them as its vote bank and that is the reason why the party is not able to strongly condemn the persecution of Hindus in the neighbouring country for fear of hurting its vote bank. The chief minister alleged that the Congress tried to divide the people on the basis of religion as a part of its vote bank appeasement policy. Congress divided people on the basis of religion to appease its vote bank, he said and added that Whereas BJP always tried to unite the people with its policy of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. Mr Yadav was reacting to the recent remarks by senior Congress leader and former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for raking up the issue of infiltrators in Jharkhand during his recent visit to the poll-bound state. Mr Pilot had said that it was the responsibility of the Centre to check infiltration and instead of curbing infiltration at the border, the PM is putting blame on Congress and the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for the issue. Mr Yadav on Friday left for Jharkhand to campaign for BJP in the ensuing Assembly elections in the eastern state.
Madhya Pradesh to Deploy Satellite Collars to Track Wild Elephants After Bandhavgarh Deaths
BHOPAL: Following the recent deaths of 10 elephants in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR), the Madhya Pradesh forest department has decided to deploy satellite collars to monitor the movements of wild elephants. Officials confirmed this new initiative on Friday, aiming to enhance conservation efforts for the state's elephant population. The decision follows the discovery of multiple elephant fatalities in the Khalil range of BTR in Umaria district. Four elephants were found dead on October 29 in the Sankhani and Bakeli areas, with additional deaths occurring on October 30 and 31. In response to these incidents, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that forest officials from Madhya Pradesh would receive specialized training in states where elephants are more abundant. The goal is to improve monitoring and management practices for elephant conservation. According to an official from the forest department, Tamil Nadu has been approached to provide two satellite collars, which are expected to arrive in Madhya Pradesh this week. These collars will initially be used on two elephants in Bandhavgarh, with the eventual plan to collar all 150 wild elephants across the state. The initiative is part of the recent efforts by the newly established Elephant Advisory Committee, led by the additional principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), L. Krishnamoorthy. This nine-member committee, formed to manage elephant conservation, primarily focuses on the rescue and rehabilitation of wild elephants. An investigation into the deaths found the presence of neurotoxin cyclopiazonic acid in the elephants' bodies, ruling out deliberate poisoning. The toxic substance was linked to the elephants' consumption of large amounts of Kodo millet plants, as reported by officials. Following the probe, the chief minister suspended two senior reserve officials for alleged lapses in conservation measures, emphasizing the states commitment to wildlife safety and accountability. Post Bandhavgarh tusker deaths, Madhya Pradesh to use satellite collars to track elephants
BHOPAL: In light of the recent deaths of 10 elephants in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) , the Madhya Pradesh forest department plans to use satellite collars to track the movements of tuskers, an official said on Friday. This initiative comes after four wild elephants were found dead in Sankhani and Bakeli under the Khalil range of the BTR in Umaria district, on October 29, 30 and 31. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav earlier announced that forest officials from Madhya Pradesh would be sent for training to other states with a high population of elephants. Talking to PTI , Madhya Pradesh's additional principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) L Krishnamoorthy said, We have asked Tamil Nadu for two satellite collars, which are expected to reach MP this week. We will use them on two jumbos in BTR. He further said that the department plans to use satellite collars on all 150 wild elephants in the state. Krishnamoorthy is the head of a nine-member Elephant Advisory Committee, which was formed two days ago to manage tuskers in the state, primarily focusing on their rescue and rehabilitation. The probe into the deaths of the ten elephants had concluded that there was neurotoxin cyclopiazonic acid in their visceras, but it was not a case of 'poisoning'. Viscera reports suggested toxicity was due to the consumption of large quantities of Kodo millet plants, the senior official had said earlier. Based on the probe team's report, the chief minister suspended two senior reserve officials for alleged lapses.
Post Bandhavgarh tusker deaths, MP to use satellite collars to track elephants
Bhopal: In light of the recent deaths of 10 elephants in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR), the Madhya Pradesh forest department plans to use satellite collars to track the movements of tuskers, an official said on Friday. The state government has been announcing a slew of measures following the deaths of pachyderms last month. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav earlier announced that forest officials from Madhya Pradesh would be sent for training in other states with a high population of elephants. On October 29, four wild elephants were found dead in Sankhani and Bakeli under the Khalil range of the BTR in Umaria district, while four died on October 30 and two on October 31. Talking to PTI, MP additional principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) L Krishnamoorthy said, We have asked Tamil Nadu for two satellite collars, which are expected to reach MP this week. We will start by putting them on two jumbos in BTR. He said the department plans to use satellite collars on all 150 wild elephants in the state. Krishnamoorthy is the head of a nine-member elephant advisory committee formed two days ago to manage tuskers in the state, mainly during their rescue and rehabilitation.
Bypoll battle: Chouhan, Pilot hit campaign trail
BHOPAL: Ahead of bypolls on November 13 in Madhya Pradesh, BJP and Congress hit campaign trail in the state with focus on Budhni. While former Rajasthan deputy CM Sachin Pilot campaigned in Vijaypur assembly constituency of Gwalior-Chambal region on Thursday, former MP CM and current union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan campaigned in his bastion Budhni. Interestingly, he had campaigned for Congress candidate and then five-time former MLA Ramniwas Rawat, who switched to BJP, from the same constituency during the 2023 assembly polls. Addressing a gathering in Gurjar community dominated Goras village, Pilot said, Vijaypur and adjoining Rajasthan share an inseparable Roti-Beti bonding. You vote the Congress candidate to victory and four years later, well bring Congress back to power in Rajasthan. He added, BJPs graph in the entire country is declining and the INDIA grouping will win the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. I have been to Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and there is a one-sided wave prevailing in that state. Meanwhile, Chouhan is campaigning for his loyalist and BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava. Budhni witnessed ghar vapasi of an ex-BJP politician Deepak Joshi, the former MP minister son of ex-CM Late Kailash Joshi. Joshis return in presence of Chouhan is likely to strike a chord with the Brahmin voters.

'BJP's graph diving, INDIA bloc to form govts in Maharashtra, Jharkhand': Pilot
BHOPAL: Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Thursday claimed that BJP's favourability is declining as people are fed up with its policies and misuse of agencies, and predicted the victory of the INDIA bloc in Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly polls. BJP's graph in the entire country is declining and the INDIA grouping will win the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. I have been to Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and there is a one-sided wave prevailing in that state, Pilot told reporters at the residence of Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari. Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha was also present. Pilot arrived here to campaign for Congress in the November 13 bypoll in Vijaypur assembly constituency in Sheopur district, bordering Rajasthan. The former Rajasthan deputy chief minister accused BJP leaders of using low-level language during polls, referring to comments like snatching mangal sutra and taking away your buffaloes during the Lok Sabha elections and the recent batenge toh katenge (if divided, we will be finished) by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Aditya Nath. The Congress is focussed on giving slogans with positivity like padhenge toh badhenge' (if we study, we will progress), he said. This type of culture should be promoted. People in the country are now fed up with the BJP over misuse of power and central agencies, and polarisation, he said. Pilot also slammed the BJP over the arrest of two CMs Jharkhand's Hemant Soren and Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal and accused it of exploiting central agencies for political gains. He said that former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, current party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc are working towards strengthening the country and the results of the bypolls in MP will leave their mark in the 2028 assembly elections. Besides Vijaypur, a bypoll will also be held on November 13 in the Budhni constituency, earlier represented by former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Votes will be counted on November 23. The results of the bypolls in various states, including Wayanad from where Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting her maiden Lok Sabha polls, and the assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra will be satisfying for the Congress and the outcomes will have a direct impact on future elections, said Pilot. In Vijaypur, the Congress has fielded senior tribal leader Mukesh Malhotra. The bypoll was necessitated after sitting Congress MLA Ramniwas Rawat joined the BJP during the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year. He is contesting the bypoll on a BJP ticket. Rawat had won from Vijaypur six times as a Congress candidate in 1990, 1993, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2023. Responding to a question about BJP's allegation that Congress and other parties encouraged infiltration in Jharkhand in a planned manner, Pilot asked, Who is responsible for protecting the country's borders? They are levelling allegations by shirking away their own responsibilities. He alleged that the BJP raises issues like 'one election, one nation', cows and Gods before elections just for votes and never talks about its performance in the areas of industrialisation, jobs, roads and water. Asked about the culture of freebies and former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's popular scheme 'Ladli Behna Yojana', Pilot asked if the scheme was so good then why Chavan was removed as the CM. On the one hand, Pilot said, BJP describes freebies as 'revdi' and on the other, it wants to take credit for providing free ration to 80 crore people in the country. If Congress and other parties want to help the deprived sections of society then it is termed 'revdiyan' despite the fact that when they do such things they call themselves 'annadata' and 'daandata', he quipped. Pilot said that though there is a double-engine government (same party at the state and Centre), unemployment is still rising in MP and farmers are dying by suicide. Who will stop it? he asked. Answering a question about Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the state should get full statehood and added that the elections were held there on the directives of the Supreme Court and not by the BJP-led government at the Centre.

Madhya Pradesh ups women quota in state services to 35%
BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has cleared a proposal to increase the reservation for women in all state government services from the current 33 per cent to 35 per cent. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday. This a major decision for ensuring women empowerment in the state. The women reservation in direct recruitments to all departments has been increased from 33% to 35%. This will be applicable to the entire recruitment process conducted by the MP Public Service Commission (MPPSC) and Employee Selection Board (ESB) across all departments in the state, deputy chief minister Rajendra Shukla told reporters after the state cabinet meeting. According to the state governments official statement, the cabinet meeting ratified the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provisions for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997, the order of the Chief Minister (then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan) dated September 13, 2023 and the subsequent notification dated October 3, 2023 issued by the department to increase womens reservation to 35 per cent. In addition to the reservation policy, the cabinet approved several other measures aimed at improving the states infrastructure and investment climate. The cabinet decided that the state government will reimburse the possible expenditure on human resources up to the maximum limit of Rs 1.72 crore for setting up 254 new fertiliser sales centres in the year 2024-25 (kharif and rabi seasons). Further, in view of the shortage of medical teachers in new government medical colleges, the cabinet approved to increase the maximum age limit for appointment to the vacant posts of assistant professor from 40 years to 50 years. As the maximum age for senior residency is 45 years and being an SR (senior resident) is necessary to apply for the assistant professor post, hence the maximum age limit for assistant professors appointment in medical colleges of the state has been increased to 50 years, deputy CM Shukla said. The cabinet also gave in-principle approval to the project for computerisation of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies office of the state under the centrally sponsored project, Strengthening of Cooperatives through IT Interventions, implemented by the Union ministry of cooperation. This will cost Rs 3.68 crore, of which 60 per cent amount will be borne by the Centre and 40 per cent by the state government. The cabinet approved the establishment of a 660 MW critical thermal power plant in Sarni. This project will replace older power units totalling 830 MW, addressing energy needs more efficiently. Shukla also reflected on the success of the recent Regional Industrial Conclave in Rewa, which attracted around 4,000 investors and business leaders. This event yielded investment proposals worth Rs 31,000 crore and promises to create over 28,000 jobs in the state.

Hemant Soren Slams Opponents, Calls JMM Jharkhand's Great Wall of China
Kanke (Jharkhand): Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, during a rally in Kanke on Wednesday, slammed those who opposed his party, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), describing his party as the Great Wall of China. He said, And these traitors, in the midst of all this fighting, even put us in jail. The reason behind putting us in jail was that they (BJP) wanted to topple the government and eliminate the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. But what they don't know is that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is like the Great Wall of China for this state. No one can break it down. Anyone who tries will be destroyed. He further added, Therefore, please keep in mind that we have worked among you, and it is with this right that I come to seek your blessings. Give us your strength, and we promise to protect Jharkhand from these devils. Meanwhile, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan took a swipe at the INDI bloc ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. He accused the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress of failing to fulfill past promises and introducing new ones without delivering results. Speaking to reporters in Bhopal, Chauhan said, The INDI bloc's guarantees are a bunch of lies because JMM and Congress also gave guarantees last time. They said they would give 5 lakh government jobs, but they didn't. Old promises remain unfulfilled, yet they have come up with new ones. People don't trust them. BJP always fulfills its promises. On Tuesday, ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly polls, the INDIA bloc released its joint manifesto, pledging seven guarantees, including an LPG cylinder at Rs 450 and 10 lakh jobs. The manifesto, unveiled by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders, also promised benefits such as a 7 kg ration per person, the implementation of the Sarna Religion Code, a Rs 2,500 honorarium for women, and increased reservations for ST, SC, and OBC communities. The seven guarantees include an LPG cylinder for Rs 450 per family, 7 kg of ration for every person, a policy based on the Khatiyan of 1932, the implementation of the Sarna Religion Code, an honorarium of Rs 2,500 for women, 28 percent reservation for ST, 12 percent for SC, and 27 percent for OBCs, 10 lakh jobs, and health insurance up to Rs 15 lakh. The 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will go to polls in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23. A total of 2.6 crore voters are eligible to participate, including 1.31 crore male and 1.29 crore female voters, as well as 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 66.84 lakh young voters. In the 2020 Assembly elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won 30 seats, the BJP won 25 seats, and the Congress won 16 seats. In 2014, the BJP won 37 seats, JMM won 19 seats, and Congress won just 6 seats.

MP: BJP leaders remarks spark speculation on next party chief
Bhopal : The recent remark by BJP national general secretary B L Santhosh has sparked speculations on the next party chief in Madhya Pradesh. Mr Santhosh while addressing party workers in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh a couple of days ago quipped that he was not sure if state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma would accompany him in the next visit to the historical city in the capacity of his present position. He was visiting Gwalior in connection with the ongoing organizational elections in the party. A section of the party here is of the view that Mr Santhoshi has dropped enough hints that the state BJP would get a new president in the ongoing organizational elections, by making such a statement. In Madhya Pradesh BJP, there is no precedent of retaining the president of the party in the organizational elections. Mr Santhoshis statement has given enough indications that the state party would get a new chief, a senior party functionary told this newspaper on Wednesday, requesting not to be quoted. Mr Sharma who also represents Khajuraho Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh may be accommodated suitably, he said. Mr Sharma whose tenure as party chief in Madhya Pradesh had seen BJP retaining power in the state in 2023 polls with thumping majority and making a clean sweep of the Lok Sabha polls in Madhya Pradesh by bagging all the 29 seats, is said to be lobbying hard to retain his post. Other prospective candidates for the post whose names are making rounds in the party are speaker of the Madhya Pradesh legislative Assembly Narendra Singh Tomar, deputy chief minister Rajendra Shukla, former minister Narottam Mishra, party MPs, former minister Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahendra Singh Solanki, and Sumer Singh Solanki, and former minister Lal Singh Arya. Election for the post of state party chief may be held in December this year, sources said. Conventionally, the state party chief is unanimously elected after the name is finalized by the party high command.

MP-Rajasthan joint panel formed for coordination on cheetah project
Bhopal: In the wake of incidents of cheetahs from Madhya Pradesh straying into neighbouring Rajasthan, a joint corridor management committee of both the states has been formed to work for conservation of the felines, officials said on Tuesday. The panel will also discuss development of suitable areas for future shifting of cheetahs from Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park (KNP) and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary area and recommend measures for improvement including the pre-augmentation base, an official said in a statement. Under the ambitious cheetah reintroduction project, eight Namibian cheetahs were released into enclosures at the KNP in Sheopur district on September 17, 2022. Later, another 12 cheetahs were brought to the park from South Africa in February 2023. In May this year, a cheetah from the KNP strayed into Karoli district of Rajasthan and was later rescued. In December 2023, a cheetah strayed into Rajasthan's Baran district and was later brought back to the KNP. The official said a joint committee comprising officials from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan has been constituted for corridor management of the cheetah project. The panel will discuss and prepare a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for a study about the development and management of corridors for the movement and conservation of cheetahs. It will discuss capacity building of officers and front-line staff engaged in monitoring, patrolling and other works for the management of cheetahs moving through the existing corridor from Kuno to Rajasthan, the official said. The committee will also evaluate the possibilities of joint tourist routes in the areas bordering both states like the National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary area, Kuno National Park and Ranthambore National Park, etc. The principal chief conservator of forest and chief conservator (wildlife) of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have been appointed as the joint chairpersons of the committee. The other officials nominated as members of the panel include the additional principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, director (Lion Project-Cheetah Project) Shivpuri, representatives of the National Tiger Conservation Authority for the two states, and a representative nominated by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, the official said. According to officials, 17 cheetah cubs were born on Indian soil over the last two years at the KNP. However, the project has also seen setbacks with eight adult cheetahs and five cubs dying during the same period. At present, there are 24 cheetahs, including cubs, in the KNP, as per the officials.

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Increases Womens Quota in Jobs to 35%
Bhopal : In a significant move, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal to increase the quota for women in government jobs by two percent to 35 percent. The decision to increase the reservation for women in recruitments to all state government jobs from 33 percent to 35 percent was taken earlier. But the state cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of chief minister Mohan Yadav on Monday gave its stamp of approval to the decision, deputy chief minister Rajendra Shukla said after the meeting. It is a major step towards empowerment of women in the state, he said. This is the second pro-women decision taken by the Mohan Yadav government since it assumed office in December 2023. In August this year, the state government announced a new cash grant scheme for school girls to buy sanitary napkins. Under the Sanitation and Hygiene Scheme, girls studying in classes seven to 12 in government school are given Rs 300 per year each to purchase sanitary napkins during menstrual period. The scheme is expected to benefit around 20 lakh school girls in the state. The state government has directly transferred a total of Rs 57.18 crore to beneficiaries around the state for the current year. Several other states distribute sanitary pads to adolescent girls free of cost. But Madhya Pradesh is the only state in the country to introduce the direct cash transfer-based scheme for this. The scheme aims not only to promote menstrual hygiene among the adolescent girls but may also to resolve the school dropout issue among the girl students, besides improving their attendance in the schools during menstrual period. In poor families, parents cannot afford to buy sanitary napkins for their adolescent daughters forcing the latter to use cloth pads. In the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan regime in Madhya Pradesh, several pro-women schemes such as Ladli Laxmi and Ladli Behna programmes were launched for empowerment of women.

In Mowgli land, night bagh chaupals for villagers to keep off prowling tigers
BHOPAL: In the Pench Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh, famous as the Land of Mowgli from the Jungle Book, special night chaupals are being organised to educate villagers about the increasing tigers-humans conflicts and ways to prevent loss of lives in the attacks. Called Bagh Chaupals, these one-hour long chaupals are being held by the Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) management in 100-plus villages in the buffer zone of the tiger reserve-national park and adjoining landscape of Seoni and Chhindwara districts. The chaupals which started on October 16, included screening of short films and documentaries on big screens, besides interactive presentations to educate villagers, particularly women and children, about the importance of tigers in forest, need of wildlife and forest protection, reasons behind tiger attacks on cattle and humans and dos and donts about when confronted by a tiger. What makes the chaupals distinct is the active involvement of local politicians, particularly tribal netas. The local politicians play a key role in these chaupals. They dont talk about politics, but focus on tigers and jungles. The villagers are also educated on ways to stay safe from snakes in the forests, PTRs deputy director Rajnish Kumar Singh said. According to Singh, the first phase of the bagh chaupals is over and the second phase will start from December 1. These evening and night bagh chaupals will be made a permanent feature. The PTR and adjoining landscape (South Seoni, South Balaghat, South Chhindwara and East Chhindwara divisions) is estimated to have over 123 tigers, including 80-85 in the reserve/national park area and 40 plus which keep moving between the park and adjoining landscape. As per the 2018 tiger census, the PTR which is spread in Seoni and Chhindwara districts, had a population of 87 tigers, which grew to 123 in 2022.
MP: Jabalpur SPs Order on Gambling Stirs Row, Modified Later
Bhopal : A recent order by the police chief of a Madhya Pradesh district restraining the cops from taking action against the people indulging in gambling nearby any water body to save their lives has stirred a row with the Congress terming it a Diwali offer to the gamblers by the Mohan Yadav government. The Jabalpur district superintendent of police (SP) Sampat Upadhyay reissued the order by making some modifications when the issue threatened to snowball into a major controversy. The order issued on October 29 to the police officers concerned and in-charges of different police stations in the district said that no action should be taken against the gamblers by the cops without taking their seniors into confidence. It also said that the cops must be sure that there are no water bodies such as rivers, ponds, canals and wells nearby when they raid the gambling dens and rather allow the gamblers to flee after making them aware of the presence of the police in such cases. The order also said that similar stands should be taken by the cops if incidents of gambling are reported in the first, second or third floors of a building. Madhya Pradesh Congress has taken exception to the order, calling it a Diwali offer to the gamblers by the Mohan Yadav government. The Mohan Yadav government wants to make Madhya Pradesh a state of gamblers by restraining police from taking action against them, the state party said in an X post. The SP however withdrew the order and reissued it on October 30 after making some modifications. The amended order asked the police officers concerned to remain vigilant (to avoid mishaps) when the police raid gambling dens located nearby water bodies. Later, the police officer took to X to explain that the objective behind the order was to save lives of people when police take action against them in such particular circumstances. Human life is more important than police action, he said. He however said that there was some drafting error in the original order and it has been corrected in the fresh order. Incidents of loss of lives were earlier reported at some places in the state and outside during raids at gambling dens near the water bodies.
MP, CG to Prepare Joint Action Plan to Tackle Elephant Menace: Mohan
Bhopal : Chief minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said that Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh would prepare a joint action plan to tackle elephant menace in the two states. Mr Yadav indicated that he would discuss the issue with his Chhattisgarh counterpart Vishnu Deo Sai during his one-day visit to the neighbouring state on Monday. The chief minister has left for Raipur in the afternoon to attend the inaugural function of the three-day Rajyotsava, scheduled to be kicked off on Monday evening, to mark the 25th Chhattisgarh State Foundation Day. Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 2000. The state government is organizing the three-day grand event, commencing on Monday, to mark the occasion. Mr Yadav said that several herds of elephants have migrated to Madhya Pradesh from Chhattisgarh in the recent past and some of them have settled down in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR), falling in the districts of Umaria and Katni in Madhya Pradesh, in 2018 after finding the jungles suitable habitat for them. The herds are the first resident pachyderms of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh need to deal with the issue jointly, he said. The chief minister's initiative comes in the wake of deaths of ten elephants in the BTR in Madhya Pradesh over 72 hours in the last week of October. It is a new experience for the state forest department to handle the elephant issue, he said and added that the state government is preparing a long-term plan to ensure that wild elephants become the part of Madhya Pradesh jungles and there should be peaceful cohabitation between the pachyderms and the local villagers. The state would study the best practices of other states in dealing with elephant menace and implement them in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said he will discuss with his Chhattisgarh counterpart about challenges arising due to herds of elephants entering MP from the neighbouring state. Yadav, who is scheduled to visit Chhattisgarh later in the day, also advocated for coordination between the forest departments of the two states over various issues. Last week, 10 elephants died at the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in MP's Umaria district. On Sunday, Yadav suspended two senior officials of the BTR following a high-level probe into the elephant deaths. An elephant also killed three persons in Umaria district last week. The elephant-related incidents usually occur due to the arrival of herds of jumbos from Chhattisgarh. I will bring this issue before the chief minister (of Chhattisgarh), Yadav said. The forest departments of both the states should have some coordination so that we can stay in touch with each other to avoid the situation that arises due to the entry of large elephant herds. We will discuss together about the difficult challenges that may arise in future, the MP CM said. Yadav is scheduled to participate in the Chhattisgarh 'Rajyotsav' (event related to the state's foundation day) in Raipur on Monday evening. He congratulated Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai and people of the state on Rajyotsav. On Sunday, CM Yadav underlined the need for an elephant task force, radio tracking and a long term plan with the help of wildlife experts to avoid a repeat of jumbo deaths and attacks on humans. The elephants coming from other states, including Chhattisgarh, are not turning back due to the good environs and management of our parks. They have become an integral part of MP forest activities. Keeping this in mind, we have to look for a lasting plan for them, Yadav said. We have decided to form an elephant task force to safely accommodate them. We will come up with a long-term plan comprising the best practices of other states, including Karnataka, Kerala and Assam that have huge jumbo populations. We are going to send our officers to these states, he had said. In order to avoid man-animal conflicts, solar fencing will be installed around agriculture farms, so that the elephants do not destroy crops, the CM said.

Elephant Deaths in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve: Field Director Suspended Amid Investigation
Bhopal:In Madhya Pradeshs Umaria district, a tragic incident unfolded as three elephants attacked, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving another injured near the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve on Saturday, officials said. The forest department had been tracking the movement of these elephants, especially following the recent deaths of ten elephants within the reserve over the past three days. The reserve, already under scrutiny for the mysterious deaths of its elephants, has increased its efforts to monitor and manage the elephant population in the area. Forest officials are continuing their investigations to uncover the cause of the recent fatalities and to mitigate further risks to both wildlife and local residents. The Stategovernment has suspended the Field Director of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) following the tragic deaths of ten elephants. The decision came after a review raised concerns over how senior wildlife officials handled the situation, with reports indicating that the Field Director did not return from leave during the emergency. The Deputy Forest Divisional Officer reportedly assigned duties to subordinates, leaving gaps in leadership during the critical period. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the suspension in a meeting with forest department officials, noting that preliminary investigations have ruled out pesticide use as a cause of the elephant deaths. Preliminary findings have not shown any evidence of pesticide use on crops. We expect the post-mortem report in the next 2-3 days, said CM Yadav. In response to a separate incident involving a wild elephant attack near Bandhavgarh, the Chief Minister also announced an increase in compensation for victims of such attacks, raising the amount from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Earlier, the Minister of State for Forest and Environment, Dileep Ahirwar, along with senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary (Forest) Ashok Barnwal and Head of Forest Force (HOFF) Aseem Shrivastava, visited Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to assess the situation on-site. The team collected information to report back to CM Yadav. The Union Environment Ministry has also launched an investigation to further examine the recent elephant deaths and identify preventive measures. Bandhavgarh Elephant Deaths: Initial Probe Rules Out Foul Play
Bhopal: The probe committee constituted by chief minister Mohan Yadav to find out the cause of the recent deaths of ten elephants in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Madhya Pradesh has found no evidence so far to establish any kind of foul play in the tragic incident, a member of the panel said on Sunday. The panel headed by states junior forest minister Pradeep Ahirwar visited the area in BTR where ten pachyderms died in mysterious circumstances over three days since October 29 to make an on-the-spot enquiry into the incident following a directive by the chief minister, sources said. Mr Yadav who reviewed the situation at an emergency high level official meeting here a couple of days ago was said to be not convinced about the theory that the tuskers may have died after consuming huge amount of kodo (millet) crop and constituted a probe panel to dig out the fact behind the tragedy, a senior officer told this newspaper on Sunday, requesting not to be quoted. Other members of the probe panel are additional chief secretary (forest and environment) Ashok Barnwal and Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Aseem Srivastav. No evidence to suggest any kind of foul play in the deaths of the ten elephants has so far been established. However, the exact cause of death of the pachyderms can be known after forensic and other relevant reports come, Mr Srivastav told this newspaper. Samples of viscera of the dead elephants have been sent to the School of Wildlife and Forensic Health in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh for forensic tests. Sources said that the probe panel is expected to submit its report within a week. Various other Central and state agencies are also probing the incident separately.
MP Govt Takes Action After Deaths of Ten Elephants in Bandhavgarh Reserve
Bhopal: Heads started rolling in the case relating to the recent incident of death of ten elephants in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Madhya Pradesh with chief minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday ordering suspension of two senior forest officers on charges of dereliction of duty. The development comes after Mr Yadav held a review meeting here on the issue on Sunday evening. The two forest officers who were placed under suspension were field director of BTR Gaurav Choudhury and assistant conservator of forest (ACF), Panpath, under BTR Fatesingh Ninema. Mr Choudhury has been suspended for having failed to return from his leave after such a huge tragedy and for switching off his mobile phone in violation of service rules, Mr Yadav said. Mr Yadav said that a preliminary probe report has found no foul play in the tragic incident of deaths of ten elephants in BTR over 72 hours since October 29. The preliminary findings also suggest that the kodo (millet) crops raised in the buffer area of the BTR were not treated with any pesticide, he said. It was earlier believed that the elephants might have consumed the kodo crops treated with pesticides leading to their deaths. Mr Yadav constituted a probe panel headed by state junior forest minister Pradeep Ahirwar to investigate into the matter, a couple of days ago. He also announced that the ex-gratia for the two people killed by the tuskers in BTR recently has been increased from Rs eight lakh to Rs 25 lakh each. He said that a long-term plan was being prepared to deal with human-elephant conflict in Madhya Pradesh, a new phenomenon in the state. Herds of elephants have started migrating to Madhya Pradesh from Chhattisgarh and a big herd has settled in BTR after finding the reserve forest conducive for them to live, leading to the recent incidents of human-elephant conflicts in some forests in the state, he said. It is a new experience for Madhya Pradesh and we have to make a long-term plan to deal with the issue to ensure safety of people and also that elephants become very much part of our jungles, he added. He said that the state government was planning to implement best practices of the states in the country dealing with the issue, in Madhya Pradesh.
Two officials suspended over deaths of 10 wild elephants at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in MP
BHOPAL: Heads have finally started to roll over the recent deaths of 10 wild elephants at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Madhya Pradesh. The forest department has suspended two officials, including BTR Field Director Gaurav Chaudhary and Assistant Conservator of Forests Fateh Singh Ninama, due to lapses in handling the incident. Chaudhary, who was on leave at the time of the deaths, failed to return from his leave and kept his mobile phone switched off, despite the tragic loss of wild elephants in the BTR buffer zone. Fateh Singh Ninama has also been found negligent in properly and promptly handling the investigation into the elephant deaths. Announcing the suspensions, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav stated on Sunday that the actions were based on preliminary findings provided by a team of senior forest department officials, led by Minister of State Dilip Ahirwar, who visited BTR to assess the situation. Though the final reports are awaited, as per initial findings, nothing incriminating has been found to suggest the use of pesticide or an external conspiracy/involvement behind the deaths of the elephants, the Chief Minister said on Sunday evening. Dr Yadav emphasised that wild elephants migrating from Chhattisgarh and other states are now establishing themselves permanently in Madhya Pradesh. To address this, he revealed plans to draft a long-term strategy for elephant conservation, aimed at ensuring the harmonious coexistence of elephants with other wildlife and local human populations. Well work with bigger elephant states like Kerala, Karnataka, and Assam to include their best practices in our long-term elephant-specific plan. Our officials and experts will be sent to those states to learn more about their best practices, he explained. As part of this plan, a special elephant task force will be established, and volunteer groups known as Hathi Mitras will be created in districts with significant elephant movement. Efforts will also focus on preventing human-elephant conflict through measures such as solar fencing around crops in areas where elephants frequently roam. Additionally, elephants that stray alone or separate from larger herds will be identified and fitted with radio collars for continuous tracking. The Chief Minister also announced that compensation for families of victims killed by wild animals would be increased. Families of the two men who were trampled to death by wild elephants in the BTR buffer zone and a nearby village will receive Rs 25 lakh, a significant increase from the previous Rs 8 lakh compensation. This higher amount will be standard for future cases of human deaths caused by wild animals. Meanwhile, the forest department reported that they have identified the wild elephant responsible for the deaths of two villagers in Umaria district on Saturday morning and have successfully rescued the animal.
Former sarpanch of Haryana village starts 'Menopause Classes for Men' campaign
CHANDIGARH: Former sarpanch of Bibipur village in Haryana, Sunil Jaglan has started the 'Menopause Classes for Men' campaign in a bid to break down the stigma of menopause, considered a taboo in womens health. The campaign is being run from the village chaupals to the universities. In the last ten months, 70 such classes in the villages across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, besides a few universities, have been held. Talking with this newspaper, Sunil Jaglan says, I have held such classes in the Jind, Gurugram, Hisar, Nuh and Rewari districts in Haryana; Ayodhya, Merrut and Lucknow districts in Uttar Pradesh; Bhopal, Ujjain and Indore districts in Madhya Pradesh; Mumbai, Nagpur and Wardha in Maharashtra besides a few universities. A few days ago, I visited several villages in Haryana and organised these classes at the village chaupal. Men ranging from 25 to 70 years of age attended the classes. When I started discussing the topic of menopause, a few people even got up and left. Others sat silently, exchanging glances or looking down. However, I was determined to initiate the conversation on menopause and continued talking. After a while, the atmosphere turned more relaxed, and it became clear that men over 40 years had little knowledge about menopause, he said. While older married men knew that a woman's periods stop at some point, they did not understand why it was such a big deal, Jaglan added. Jaglan shared that a few said that menopause saves money as they don't have to buy menstrual products anymore. He also shared that a few even commented that Menopause is good as they no longer need to use protection during sex. The men had no idea that the hormonal changes during menopause seriously affect a woman's health. These changes go beyond just physical symptoms and also impact her mental and emotional well-being, he said. When I explained how men can support their wives and mothers during menopause, some started nodding in agreement, while others remained silent. This is a crucial topic that needs to be discussed openly, he added. Recalling how it all started, Jaglan says, When I was a child, I used to watch an advertisement on the television in which a girl sits quietly while others girls were playing. The girls even asked her what was going on and said that something should be happening... When I questioned my parents what was this advertisement on, I never got an answer. In 2012, after becoming Sarpanch, I brought a pad-making machine for the women of the village but when I started telling women about it, I realized that I did not know anything about the subject. I started learning about the topic. In 2016, we started the 'Padmitra campaign', at that point of time, when people used to post photos on social media with a pad in hand, people used to trail them, but I did not give up. Later, Padmitra was written in the profiles on social media and people accepted it, he said. Jaglan added that he started reading more about periods and even started a 'period chart campaign' starting from his daughter Nandini. In 2019, a 'period chart campaign' was started in which the period dates of all the women of the house were written on a chart and was put on the wall. It was initially not accepted by the people, the family members tore the charts but we did not give up. Today, period charts have been installed in more than 40,000 houses, he said. Jaglan said that in 2022, Lado Panchayat was organized and a demand was made to the Union Government to provide one day period leave working women in government and non-government places.
