NIA files fresh chargesheet in Bhopal terror conspiracy case
The case was originally registered in May 2023 by the Bhopal Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), based on information that HuT members were clandestinely recruiting Muslim youths in Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India to overthrow the democratically elected Union government and establish a Sharia-based Caliphate, the NIA said.
BHOPAL: The World Cup winning feat of the talented 22-year-old pace bowler Kranti Gaud has rekindled her suspended police constable father's hopes of being reinstated. Kranti was felicitated by her home states chief minister Mohan Yadav at a function in Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal on Friday, along with her parents Munna Singh Gaud and Neelam Singh Gaud, besides coach Rajeev Birthare. The occasion also saw the MP CM promising that he would initiate the process of reinstating Kranti's father as per the existing rules. Ive come to know about your familys difficulties, there is provision of appeal to the state government. We will certainly work for the reinstatement of your father as per the existing rules, the CM assured Kranti and her parents. Back in 2012, Krantis father was suspended from service due to an incident reportedly during the election process. Since then, the family has had to face many hardships resulting in Krantis elder brothers working as labourers and bus conductors to ensure the livelihood of the family comprising six children, of whom she is the youngest. A native of Ghuwara village of Chhatarpur district in MPs Bundelkhand region, Kranti has been leading the Indian teams pace attack since July and performed particularly well during the tour of England. Addressing the event where Kranti also interacted with girls from the Madhya Pradesh Sports Academy, the CM announced that she will be honoured on November 15 in Jabalpur during the state-level function celebrating tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda Jayanti. He also announced the construction of a new cricket stadium in Krantis home district Chhatarpur to support players practice and development.
BHOPAL: Around 4,000 newly recruited Madhya Pradesh police constables undergoing training at eight centres have been directed to read chapters from the 'Bhagavad Gita' every evening during the Hindu month of Margashirsha. Additional Director General of Police (Training) Raja Babu Singh maintained that the initiative aims to guide trainee constables toward leading righteous and disciplined lives. It will help the newly recruited strike a balance between intelligence quotient (IQ) and emotional quotient (EQ). At a time when a young student is getting killed by on-duty constables in Bhopal, reading chapters of the Bhagavad Gita will certainly have a positive effect on the lives of the newly recruited cops, the ADG (Training) told the TNIE on Friday. The Margashirsha month which started from Thursday, as per scriptures is the month of Lord Krishna. He himself says in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita that Masaanam Margashirshoham, meaning I am Margashirsha among months. The superintendent of police (SPs) of all police training schools have been asked to make the recruits undergoing training there, to read one chapter of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, if possible, before the meditation at night throughout the holy month of Margashirsha. Reading the Bhagavad Gita will help the recruits the art of living a spartan life, he added. Notably, the directive comes four months after the ADG (Training) had encouraged recruits to recite verses from Goswami Tulsidass Ramcharitmanas, believing it would instil discipline and ethical clarity among them. The opposition Congress, however, has criticised the move, calling it an attempt to radicalise and saffronise the police force. In a democratic country like India, each and every individual is at liberty to follow their religion and faith. What has been directed by the ADG-Training is an attempt to radicalise the police force in MP. Its not in line with the spirit of our countrys Constitution, state Congress spokesperson Bhupendra Gupta said, while slamming the state polices training wings head. The ruling BJP has defended the ADG-Trainings decision and criticised the Congress for opposing the initiative. Its shocking that people of one political party are terming the Bhagavad Gita as communal. The ancient book is revered by people across the world for its content about lifes philosophy and not religion, but the Congress seems to be determined to communalise it. ADG (Training) Raja Babu Singhs focus on the Bhagavad Gita isnt new. While being posted as the ADG of Gwalior Range some years back, he had distributed Bhagavad Gita copies among jail inmates and initiated similar reading sessions. Singh is not only focusing on making the young recruits recite the chapters from the Bhagavad Gita every evening till December 4 at the eight PTS. He also plans to hold three days of Heartfulness Meditation sessions between December 19 and 21, marking World Meditation Day on December 21. Sessions will be conducted at heritage and historical sites such as Upper Lake (Bhopal), Rajwada (Indore), Dhuandhar Falls (Jabalpur), Mahakaleshwar Temple (Ujjain), and Khajuraho Temples (Chhatarpur). The programme will be open to all citizens and led by 76 trained Heartfulness instructors within police ranks across 55 districts, with zero cost to the department.

MP CM Promises Reinstatement For Cricketer Kranti Gaud's Suspended Father
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan: In a gesture of compassion and recognition, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav assured Kranti Gaud, one of the key players in the Indian women's cricket team that helped bring the World Cup to India, that he would explore possibilities for reinstating her father in government service. Kranti's father, Munna Singh Gaud, a police constable, has been under suspension since 201112, reportedly for alleged negligence during election duty. CM Yadav pledged swift action toward reinstatement. The Chief Minister further shared that Kranti will be invited as a special guest on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas in Jabalpur on November 15. The event is organised to celebrate the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter and tribal icon Birsa Munda. This family has given India a world champion, CM Yadav said firmly, as his voice carried the weight of promise. We'll explore every avenue, including the appeal provisions available, to set this right. Their story deserves not just applause, but support. CM Yadav kicked off the felicitation ceremony at his Bhopal residence by turning his attention to the quiet sacrifices behind a national hero's glory. Munna Singh had watched his and his daughter's dreams come true amid relentless hardship. The family, uprooted from their official home, crammed into a rented space in Ghuwara village, a tribal pocket in Chhatarpur's rugged Bundelkhand. Kranti's journey from a humble ball boy at local tennis ball cricket tournaments in Ghuwara village, Chhatarpur district, to becoming part of the World Champion squad is exemplary. Kranti's association with cricket began unusually. As a young girl, she often assisted in local tennis ball cricket events, tirelessly running errands and fetching balls, earning herself the nickname 'Ball Boy'. But her true calling lay beyond the tennis tournaments. As the youngest of six siblings, Kranti dropped out after Class 8, but her father's unyielding belief fuelled her fire. Return home only after winning, Kranti Goud's father had told her before the tournament. On November 2, at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, she did just that, helping India defend 299 to crush South Africa by 52 runs and claim the maiden ICC Women's ODI World Cup. The room, filled with senior officials, sports figures, and Kranti's beaming relatives, hung on every word. CM Yadav then shifted to celebration, draping a gold medal around the 22-year-old pacers' neck and handing over the one crore rupee reward announced days earlier. Madhya Pradesh's daughter has lit up the nation, he added, linking her rise to the broader progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. Our girls are charging ahead, bowl by blistering bowl. Kranti's tournament haul - nine wickets in eight matches at 40.11, capped by a Player-of-the-Match haul of three against Pakistan - had already etched her name in history. But this wasn't mere back-patting. The event launched bigger dreams. CM Yadav unveiled plans for a cutting-edge cricket stadium in Chhatarpur, tailored for women's talent and village kids like Kranti. Our state overflows with raw potential, he declared. This ground will turn small-town grit into world-class swings. Our state overflows with raw potential, he declared. MP busts interstate antelope poaching racket with Mumbai links
BHOPAL: From a religious gathering in Bhopal in 2022 to group/coalition poaching in the jungles of MadhyaPradesh from 2023 and from the use of high-end SUVs and MUVs to the modified expensive guns of foreign make -- the disclosures about a recently busted inter-state gang of antelope species poachers are getting bigger. Ten months long investigations by Madhya Pradesh's specialised anti-wildlife crime wing has led to the busting of an inter-state antelopes poaching racket -- which is turning out to be much bigger than imagined. Four men mostly hailing from rich and influential families of Mumbai, have been arrested by the state's tiger strike force (STSF) between December 2024 and October 2025. The latest accused to be arrested is Sabah Antulay, a commerce graduate from the University of Mumbai, who was currently working in the customer service section of a prominent airline company of the Middle East in the Maharashtra capital. Ongoing investigations, particularly based on Sabah's quizzing, has revealed the strong possibility of him being the gang's key link with rich and influential people of Mumbai and neighbourhood, to whom meat and skinbof antelopes poached in the jungles of Madhya Pradesh is believed to have been supplied. The three other arrested men, Johar Hussain, Imtiyaz Khan and Salman, who also hail from Mumbai, were arrested from Kishanganj area of Indore district in December 2024. The STSF had then seized around 65 kg meat of poached blackbucks and chinkara antelope species. The antelopes were poached by the gang members in the jungles of Madhya Pradesh with the help of local contacts spread across the central Indian state, including Bhopal. The gang members met with their key contacts in MP capital during a major religious gathering on the outskirts of the city in 2022. It is from there that there network started spreading its tentacles in the wildlife species rich state since 2023, a source forming part of the ongoing probe confided to the TNIE . Since then the high-end modified foreign made airguns and rifles, mostly of foreign make, including a Swedish make gun (each of whose prices ran into lakhs of rupees) were used by gang in the bush-hunting in MP. Not just high end guns, but expensive MUVs and SUVs were used by the gang members for coalition/group poaching of antelopes and subsequent transporting of the poached blackbucks, chinkara and sambars. They were trained in precision shooting by a Bhopal-based national level shooter, who is now on the run. Our target is now to trace and nab the gang members based in MP, the source connected with the ongoing investigations revealed. As the investigations make headway skeletons are tumbling out of the cupboard. Though initial probe suggested that the meat of poached antelopes from MP was consumed and supplied in Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai, inputs based on Sabah's recent questioning has raised the possibility of the meat having been supplied to other states and even being routed to the Middle East. Digital evidences seized so far suggests that the gang members were running closed groups on secure social media platforms, first to share inputs on tracking of the locations of antelopes species, then poach them and route the meat to the rich and influential customers. One group or coalition often poached 4-5 antelopes in a day. While they went for bush hunting in the jungles of MP, seized evidence suggests that they also flew for game hunting in African countries. Their foreign links also need to be proved, the informed sources said.

While he was coming down after garlanding the statue, the crane got stuck with a jolt, giving a tough time to the LS member. The crane remained stuck mid-air for a short time, but on restarting, it moved unevenly, creating an imbalance and consequently annoying Singh. A visibly annoyed Singh caught hold of the crane operator and slapped him a scene which was recorded on a phone by some resident. The crane operator who was slapped by the MP is reportedly a muster roll employee in the Satna Municipal Corporation. Meanwhile, the opposition Congress slammed the Satna MP over the incident. The incident has once again publicly exposed the arrogance of BJP leaders. Slapping of the Municipal Corporation worker by the conceited BJP MP not just exposes the arrogance of the BJP leader, but also proves that the BJP is no longer for the people; instead, it works for its own pride, State Congress spokesperson Abhinav Baroliya said.

Acting woman DySP in MP on run after stealing Rs 2 lakh cash, mobile from her friends home
BHOPAL: The Bhopal police are in search for an officiating female deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Kalpana Raghuvanshi, accused of stealing a cell phone and Rs 2 lakh cash from her close friend's home in Mahalaxmi Parisar residential colony. Her friend, the complainant, is employed at an insurance company. A case has been registered at the Jahangirabad police station of Bhopal against Raghuvanshi. The complainant alleged that on returning to the main room after taking a bath, she couldnt find the cell phone put on charge and a handbag containing Rs 2 lakh cash. The incident allegedly took place a month back. She added that the houses door was slightly open and her daughter was studying in the other room. On checking the CCTV footage, it was found that DySP Kalpana Raghuvanshi, who has been her friend for the last six years, entered and exited the house in a short time. According to sources privy to the ongoing police probe, the CCTV grab showed the DySP holding a bundle of currency notes while leaving the premises. After seeing the CCTV grabs, the complainant reported the matter to the Jahangirabad police station. A case of theft was subsequently registered against the acting DySP. While the cell phone has been recovered, the DySP remains untraceable along with Rs 2 lakh cash. According to additional superintendent of police (ASP) Bittu Sharma, Raghuvanshi has been served a notice; she is absconding. Meanwhile, sources at the state PHQ told TNIE that the concerned acting DySP is already facing a departmental probe for undue absence from duty for around a year and is likely to be demoted back to an inspectors post. Importantly, this is the third incident due to which the state police have been in the news for the wrong reasons in recent times. Earlier this month, 11 police personnel posted in Seoni district, including a woman sub-divisional officer police (SDOP) and a sub-inspector, were arrested for allegedly looting suspected hawala money. During the same period, two police constables posted at Bhopals Piplani police station were arrested for murdering an engineering student in Bhopals Indrapuri area.

Prime accused involved in brutal killing of farmer in MP's Guna district arrested
BHOPAL:More than 50 hours after the brutal killing of a middle-aged farmer and assault of his two daughters in Guna district, the Madhya Pradesh Police arrested the prime accused, an expelled BJP leader, Mahendra Nagar, and his two close relatives on Tuesday evening. Mahendra Nagar, Harish, and Jitendra Nagar were arrested hours after the declaration of a bounty of Rs 10,000 each on the arrest of 13 absconding accused. Confirming the three fresh arrests in the case, a senior MP police officer told TNIE that with the recent arrests, the total arrests now stand at 4, which also include Mahendras brother, Hukum Singh. The 10 other accused on the run include Mahendras wife and two sons, besides two other female members of the extended family. Meanwhile, the local administration also freed large tracts of forest land encroached by Nagar and aides in multiple villages of the Fatehgarh police station area of Guna district on Tuesday. Farmer brutally murdered, daughters assaulted by BJP leader in MP's Guna over land dispute Earlier, on Monday evening, the ruling BJPs Guna district unit chief, Dharmendra Sikarwar, had expelled Mahendra Nagar from the party following the Sunday afternoons barbaric incident. On Sunday afternoon, horrific savagery had unfolded in Ganeshpura village of Guna district, when the BJPs local booth committee chief, Mahendra Nagar, along with relatives and aides, brutally murdered middle-aged farmer Ramswaroop Dhakad over a dispute about six bighas of land in adjoining Baran district of Rajasthan. Mahendra, along with aides, broke the limbs of the farmer before running an MUV and a tractor over him. To ensure that he didnt survive, the gun-wielding men accompanying the BJP leader didnt allow the villagers to take Ramswaroop to the hospital. When Ramswaroops two teenage daughters (aged 16 and 17 years) tried to save their father, Mahendra and aides assaulted them, tore their clothes, and even opened fire while being seated over them to scare villagers away. A critically wounded Ramswaroop died later at the Guna district hospital. Mahendra Nagar already faces five criminal cases, including rape, loot, and forgery. Not only had Mahendra Nagar encroached forest land and forced villagers to sell their lands to him at throwaway prices, but had even illegally erected electric poles to supply electricity from Guna district of MP to neighbouring Rajasthan. The poles were removed by the local administration on Tuesday.
BJP leader shot dead by two men on bike in MP's Katni, father of one of the accused dies by suicide
BHOPAL: A ruling BJP leader, who was formerly associated with the Bajrang Dal was shot dead by two motorbike-borne men in broad daylight in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. In a related development, after a short while following the broad daylight murder, the father of one of the accused men allegedly died by suicide at his house in the same district. The incident happened near a nationalised banks branch in Kaimor town under Vijayraghavgarh tehsil of Katni district at around 11 am, when the local BJP leader Nilesh Rajak (30) was driving his motorbike to the market. Suddenly, two masked men riding another motorcycle came from behind and shot Rajak from close range in the chest. The young BJP leader fell on the ground and died. The entire broad daylight killing was captured in the CCTV camera installed near the spot. Subsequent police probe revealed that Rajak, who was close to former MP minister and local BJP MLA Sanjay Pathak, had a violent brawl with a local youth, Akram Khan (already facing three cases) in August and both sides had lodged counter FIRs against each other at Kaimor police station. A detailed probe by multiple teams of the police established that Akram Khan and his aide, Prince Joseph, were involved in the sensational killing. Meanwhile, in a related development, Princes father Nelson Joseph, on coming to know about sons alleged involvement in the BJP leaders killing, rushed to his home and locked himself in a room. He was later found hanging to death in the room. As per the police, prime facie Nelson died by suicide, possibly on coming to know about his sons role in the killing. Meanwhile, the local MLA and former MP minister Sanjay Pathak blamed the local police for the killing. A month and half back, a girl had complained to Nilesh Rajak about Akram often stalking and troubling her. Nilesh had then stopped Akram near DAV and raised the issue when Akram had threatened to kill him. Even at the Kaimor police station, Akram had threatened to kill Nilesh. But instead of acting against Akram, the local police had lodged a case against Nilesh. The family members of Nilesh have alleged that Akram had protection from the local police, Pathak said. Pathak further demanded action in the matter on the lines of the action by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh. The people of the town want that both the accused be gunned down in an encounter by police and bulldozer action against the illegal houses of the accused men. All those who protected Akram, including the local police, should also be booked. We want Yogi Waalaa Nyay (action on the lines of the Yogi Adityanath government). Angered over the incident, the family of the murdered BJP leader refused to get the bodys autopsy done till the killers were arrested. The accused have been identified and efforts are being made to arrest them. Multiple teams are working on the case. The local police station in charge, Arvind Jain has been suspended and attached to the district police lines. Anyone else whose negligence is found will also face action, Katni district police superintendent Abhinay Vishwakarma said.
Pune techie arrested by Anti-Terrorism Squad over suspected link with Al-Qaeda
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), on Monday, arrested a 33-year-old software engineer, identified as Zubair Hangargekar, from Punes Kondhwa area for his alleged links with Pakistan-based Al-Qaeda and involvement in the radicalisation of youth. According to ATS officials, Zubir Hangargekar, who had been under surveillance for nearly a month, was taken into custody early on Monday and produced before a special UAPA court, which remanded him to police custody till November 4. Mr Hangargekar has been booked under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Hangargekar is a B Tech graduate, software tester ,and database developer working with a Kalyaninagar-based IT firm, hails from Solapur and lives in Pune with his wife and two children. ATS teams tracked him down to Pune Railway Station upon his return from an event in Chennai. Hewas detained along with his associates in Pune. They were in Chennai to attend a social function. The ATS official say, the arrest is connected to an ongoing investigation stemming from raids conducted on October 9 across multiple locations in Pune, during which 19 laptops and 40 mobile phones were seized for forensic analysis. The searches had hinted at the existence of a wider terror network involving radicalised individuals. The ATS said the investigation into Hangargekars activities is underway, and more arrests could follow as digital evidence from seized devices is analysed. A senior ATS officer said searches at Hangargekars residence led to the recovery of incriminating Al-Qaeda literature and digital material used for radicalisation. The officer added that investigators are probing whether the accused was in contact with Al-Qaeda operatives or members of other extremist organisations, and what he intended to do with the material in his possession. The arrest follows a series of recent operations targeting radical networks in India. Earlier this month, two individuals, Md Adnan Khan alias Abu Muharib (19) from Delhi and Adnan Khan alias Abu Mohammad (20) from Bhopal, were arrested in an Islamic State (IS)-related case. Investigations revealed that the duo had been radicalised online and were reporting to a handler based in Syria, indicating the continued online resurgence of global terror groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda. As per intelligence officials, while these groups lack strong physical bases in India, their digital outreach and radicalisation efforts have intensified, with India-focused operations allegedly coordinated from Syria.
Farmer brutally murdered, daughters assaulted by BJP leader in MP's Guna over land dispute
BHOPAL: In a horrific incident on Sunday, a 40-year-old farmer was brutally beaten to death, allegedly by local BJP leader Mahendra Nagar and his aides in Ganeshpura village of Madhya Pradesh's Guna district. The farmer, identified as Ramswaroop Dhakad, was first mercilessly beaten with sticks and rods and was then allegedly run over by an MUV on Sunday afternoon. The brutality, reportedly linked to a dispute over six bighas of land in the adjoining Baran district of Rajasthan, did not end there. The accused men, armed with guns, allegedly prevented anyone in the village from taking the gravely injured farmer to the hospital for nearly an hour, ensuring his death. While villagers remained silent spectators out of fear of the gun-toting men accompanying Nagar, the farmer's daughters, who rushed to save him, were also assaulted and humiliated. When I went to save my father, they pushed me down, sat on me, tore my clothes, and fired shots to scare us. My mother and father were going to the fields when Mahendra, Harish, and Gautam attacked them. Then they ran over my father with the Thar. He screamed, but no one dared to help, as the attackers were armed with guns, recounted the murdered farmers daughter. According to locals, Mahendra Nagar the BJPs local booth committee chief and a former office-bearer of the party's farmers wing in Guna district has long run a reign of terror in Ganeshpura village under the Fatehgarh police station area. He has been grabbing land for years. At least 25 farmers have sold their land at throwaway prices and left the village. Those who dared to resist were either assaulted or driven out. Ramswaroop refused to surrender to Nagars terror and held on to his ten bighas of land in Ganeshpura, while his relatives lived in the adjoining Pachlavada village in Rajasthan. That defiance finally cost him his life, a villager said on condition of anonymity. Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOPBamori) Vivek Asthana confirmed the incident and said a long-running land feud between the deceased farmer and a relative of the local BJP leader was the motive behind the brutal murder. Ramswaroop Dhakad had a dispute with Kanhaiya Nagar over six bighas of land in adjoining Rajasthan. Kanhaiya, a resident of Pachlavada, is a relative of Mahendra. It was this long-running land feud that actually triggered Sundays incident. Mahendra, Kanhaiya, and 1314 others, including some women, attacked Ramswaroop. He sustained multiple fractures all over his body. His daughters, too were assaulted. All of them were taken to the Guna district hospital, but doctors could not save Ramswaroop, Asthana said. A case has been registered against 14 persons, including Mahendra Nagar, his sons Nitesh and Devendra, wife Kamlesh Bai Nagar, nephew Jitendra, and two other women from the Nagar family, under multiple BNS sections related to murder, criminal conspiracy, assault, and outraging the modesty of women. One of the accused, Hukum Singh, Mahendras elder brother, has been arrested, while raids are underway to nab the absconding accused. Meanwhile, Guna district BJP president Dharmendra Sikarwar, while confirming Nagars association with the party, has sought his immediate expulsion. Mahendra Nagar is a party worker and the local booth chief. We have written to senior party leaders seeking his immediate removal, Sikarwar said. According to informed sources, Mahendra Nagar was among the Congress workers who joined the BJP in 2020, after Jyotiraditya Scindia and 22 loyalist MLAs quit the party, toppling the Kamal Nath-led government. Guna is one of three districts in the Gwalior-Chambal region that make up the Guna Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister and BJPs former national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiyya's remarks over the alleged stalking-sexual harassment of Australian women cricketers in Indore on October 23 have triggered controversy. This day, when a local court in Indore sent 28-year-old Aqeel Khan into 15-day judicial custody at Indore District Jail, Vijayvargiya, the senior-most cabinet minister in the Dr Mohan Yadav-led BJP government, said, The October 23 incident was a lesson for all concerned, for us as well as the cricket players. Instead of focusing entirely on security lapses, the 69-year-old minister said, When we go abroad, we inform the local administration and security personnel. This incident is a lesson for all, for us as well as the players. I think this will remind the players that in the future, one should inform security personnel or local administration before leaving, as there is a huge craze for cricket players here. Cricket and players have the same craze in India, which Soccer enjoys in England. I have seen football players clothes being torn at a hotel. We were staying at the hotel and having coffee. So many young men came over. Someone was asking for autographs from a famous player. A girl even kissed him. He was a very famous football player from England. The MP minister further said, At times, the players dont realise their popularity. They should be careful. Vijayvargiyas statements drew sharp criticism from the Congress. His (Vijayvargiyas) statement is unfortunate. Its such a disgusting statement, which I cant repeat here. At a time when the incident has damaged Indias reputation globally, a responsible minister and BJP politician is making such statements, which actually reflect his mindset. Instead of accepting and regretting the failure of local police in providing adequate security to the cricket players, he is blaming the players for the incident, which is really disgusting. CA confirms two women cricketers 'touched inappropriately' in Indore, BCCI secretary Saikia condemns incident This isnt the first time that Vijayvargiya has kicked up a political row with his public utterances. A few weeks back, he had made controversial remarks, mocking at the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for kissing MP sister Priyanka Gandhi, publicly. The ministers remarks had then triggered widespread protests from the Congress across the state. Earlier in June, while addressing an event in native Indore, he had kicked up another controversy by saying that he didnt like girls and women wearing skimpy clothes. Also in 2022, while addressing a Hanuman Jayanti event, Vijayvargiya had said, I won't lie on Hanuman Jayanti... but girls these days wear such filthy clothes... We call women goddesses, but they don't appear that way... They look like Shurpanakha (a demoness from Hindu mythology). God has given you a beautiful body; at least wear decent clothes. Teach your children values. Meanwhile, the district administration and police might also invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against Aqeel Khan, given his past criminal history of being accused in ten cases of loot, robbery, theft, drug peddling, possession of illegal arms and attempt to murder. He had spent many years at the Bherugarh Central Jail in Ujjain in a criminal case and came out of jail just a few months back. The Indore Police are now also searching for the local resident, who had actually helped the two Aussie cricketers on October 23, by noting the accuseds vehicle details. Once tracked, he will be felicitated by the authorities. Two Australian women cricketers molested in Indore; accused arrested

Two cops sounded alarm, but MP failed to take action on carbide guns
Two alert police officers in Gwalior and Bhopal filed FIRs days before Diwali after spotting illegal carbide gun sales, but these warnings went unheeded. Despite these early actions, the dangerous weapons continued to be sold openly and online, leading to a dark Diwali tragedy with hundreds injured. A subsequent crackdown seized numerous guns and explosives.
MP authorities ignored 2023 warning on carbide guns, leading to Diwali eye injury crisis
BHOPAL: Had the authorities in Madhya Pradesh acted ahead of Deepawali, based on the findings of a 2023 research on Vision-threatening ocular injury secondary to calcium carbide gun use in Indian children and young adults, the major health catastrophe caused by the low-priced guns might have been averted. The 2023 research findings were based on case studies of five young males in southwestern MPs Khargone district, who reported carbide gun-induced ocular injuries. While two of the males were from rural areas, three others were from urban localities, who bought the carbide guns due to their low cost compared to other firecrackers. One of the males even made the gun at home, following freely available online videos. The guns worked as expected initially, but then malfunctioned, prompting users to peep inside to view the sparking - either through the front opening of the barrel or by opening the carbide loading valve door at the rear. Accidentally, the acetylene gas in the barrel ignited, causing a blast and spraying residual calcium hydroxide, which resulted in ocular injury. All patients suffered monocular injuries, including eyelid edema, conjunctival congestion, corneal opacification, and limbal ischemia, with vision loss ranging from 6/36 to no light perception. Improper handling, easy availability, low cost, and lack of awareness of risks contributed to the incident. The study, conducted by researchers from the National Institute for Research in Environment and ICMR National Institute for Research in Environment in 2023, recommended generating public awareness and imposing restrictions on the unlicensed sale of carbide guns and raw materials. A senior police official in Madhya Pradesh admitted that authorities failed to anticipate the risk. The carbide guns arent new; they were largely used by farmers to scare monkeys and by firecracker professionals in marriages, particularly in rural areas. However, owing to their low priceRs 100150 per gunand easy making via online videos, people were attracted to them this Deepawali. The farmers and firecracker professionals using the guns for many years are well versed in handling them, including not peeping into the guns when there is a delay in fire. But this didnt happen with teenagers and children, who bought or made them following online content, which actually caused the catastrophe, the official added. Two cops, identified as constable Avdhesh Mishra and head constable Krishna Kumar Shukla, were injured one of them critically when a group of villagers attacked them at Bakal police station in Katni district around 10 pm. The group of local residents had turned violent while protesting outside the police station, alleging weak investigation in an assault case. Out of the two injured cops, Shukla is stated to be in critical condition at a private hospital in Katni district. An FIR has been registered against five persons in the matter, and efforts are underway to nab them, Katni police sources said. The attack on cops at the police station in Katni district happened just two hours after a team from Dharampur police station was attacked by a mob in Gajna Dharampur village of Panna district around 8 pm. Two cops, including Dharampur police station in-charge MS Bhadoria and constable Ram Niranjan Kushwaha, were seriously injured in the attack by a mob while they had gone to the village to arrest one Pancham Yadav, accused in a culpable homicide not amounting to murder case. The two injured cops have been admitted to a hospital in adjoining Satna district. Heavy police force was deployed in the concerned village after the incident. Importantly, cops in Madhya Pradesh have frequently come under attack over the last two years. In August, the state government, in response to a question by former home minister and senior Congress MLA Bala Bachchan, told the Vidhan Sabha that five cops were killed and as many as 612 police personnel were injured in attacks on the police force, vehicles, and other police properties across the state between January 2024 and July 2025. The attacks had led to the deaths of five cops in Chhindwara, Shahdol, Satna, Mauganj, and Seoni districts. Maximum cases of attacks on police personnel happened in state capital Bhopal, followed by its neighbouring Rajgarh district. A total of 28 cases of cops being attacked occurred in the urban, rural, and railway jurisdictions in Bhopal district, resulting in injuries to 30 police personnel. The adjoining Rajgarh district reported 26 cases of attacks on police, leaving 40 police personnel injured. Out of these, seven cases were reported from Boda police station area one attack resulted in injuries to ten cops which is believed to house some villages inhabited by the criminal Sansi community. The states commercial capital, Indores rural, urban, and railway areas, reported a total of 23 cases of cops coming under attack in the last 18 months, which caused injuries to at least ten police personnel. Though Guna district reported only 15 cases, the number of those injured stood at 40, with nine and ten cops getting hurt in two separate incidents. As per sources in the state police, the high number of injured personnel in attacks over the last 18 months occurred when police raided dens of criminal tribes and communities in some parts of the district, which neighbours Rajgarh.

Congress leader Pravesh Agrawal dies of suffocation after fire breaks out at his Indore penthouse
BHOPAL: A blaze possibly triggered by the Akhand Jyoti (eternal flame) of the temple housed in one of the rooms of a penthouse, choked a businessman-turned-Congress leader Pravesh Agrawal to death in Madhya Pradeshs commercial capital Indore early on Thursday. While the 40-year-old Congress leader died due to asphyxia, his 14-year-old elder daughter Saumya has been admitted at the Bombay Hospital, where her condition remains stable. Praveshs wife Shweta, saved her daughters life, by driving her timely to the Bombay Hospital, around 5 km from the familys penthouse located on the first floor of the building which houses the Mahindra showroom owned by Agrawal on the ground floor. According to Lasudiya police station inspector Neetu Singh, the blaze was triggered at around 5 am. On the spot investigations suggest the strong possibility of the fire having triggered through the Akhand Jyoti lit in the temple in one of the rooms. Assets in that particular room and adjoining store space was gutted. It was the heavy smoke emanating from the blaze, which engulfed the entire penthouse. While the elder daughter Saumya was sleeping alone in one room, her parents Pravesh and Shweta and youngster sister Mayra (10) were asleep in the other room, when the blaze erupted. Since the family employed a couple of servants and guards, they informed the police and saved Shweta and Mayra in time. The first response vehicle (FRV) of police reached the spot and managed to get Pravesh Agrawal out from the heavy smoke. He was unconscious and on being rushed to the hospital, the doctors declared him as brought dead, Singh added. Agrawal, the owner of the Mahindra showroom, was also a Congress leader, who was considered close to former MP CM and ex-state party chief Kamal Nath. Expressing grief over the tragedy, Nath posted on social media platform X, I was deeply pained to hear the news of the demise of Congress leader Pravesh Agrawal. 50 Children Among 60 Hospitalised in Bhopal After Diwali Carbide Gun Injuries
Children among victims suffer eye damage and facial burns as illegal firecrackers cause havoc
Over 60 injured, several children lose eyesight in Bhopal due to calcium carbide guns on Diwali
More than 60 people, most of them children aged between 8 and 14, were hospitalised in Bhopal after suffering injuries caused by the use of calcium carbide guns during Diwali celebrations, PTI reported on Thursday. According to Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Manish Sharma, the makeshift carbide pipe guns are extremely dangerous. About 60 people injured by these guns are currently being treated in various hospitals across the city. Though there is no threat to their lives, some of the injured persons have lost their eyesight, while a few have suffered facial burns, he said. The so-called guns are crudely assembled using a plastic pipe, a gas lighter, and calcium carbide. When water comes into contact with calcium carbide, it produces acetylene gas, which explodes upon ignition. The resulting blast can propel fragments of the plastic pipe at high speeds, causing shrapnel-like injuries to the eyes, face, and skin. Officials reported that more than 150 cases of carbide gun injuries were registered across Bhopal a day after Diwali. While many victims were discharged after first aid, several children remain hospitalised with serious injuries. Families of the injured children have blamed the authorities for allowing the sale of these hazardous devices. CMHO Sharma said the district administration has launched a crackdown on the illegal manufacture and sale of carbide guns. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, in a meeting held on October 18, had instructed district magistrates and police officials across Madhya Pradesh to prevent the sale of such devices. However, despite these directives, the guns were sold widely in local markets during Diwali. (With inputs from PTI)

Over the last few days, SPE unearthed unaccounted assets running into crores. DEHRADUN: The lingering haze from Diwali fireworks has plunged Uttarakhand's air quality into a dangerous zone, with the state capital, Dehradun, recording 'severe' pollution levels on Tuesday morning. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and AQI India, Dehradun registered an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 261. This severe reading was mirrored across the state, with Haridwar and Kashipur also reporting significantly poor air conditions. Monitoring stations in Dehradun revealed shocking figures. PM2.5 concentrations peaked at 184 micrograms per cubic meter, while PM10 levels surged to 230 micrograms per cubic meter - exceeding far beyond the safe limits. Despite clear daytime skies, cold air and low wind speeds are trapping pollutants near the surface, explained an environmental analyst. This is creating a health hazard, especially for those with respiratory issues. The pollution crisis extended beyond Dehradun. Haridwar recorded an average AQI of 182, and Roorkee hit 176, both falling into the 'unhealthy' category. Rudrapur and Kashipur remained in the 'poor' range with AQIs above 150. Rishikesh, the spiritual town, saw its AQI hover around 179 on Monday evening, marking a volatile trend after fluctuating between 153 and a low of 63 earlier this month. While acknowledging the poor readings, state officials highlighted Uttarakhands performance relative to other major north Indian cities. A government spokesperson noted that Delhi recorded an AQI of 351 ('very poor'), Lucknow 250, Patna 226, and Bhopal 235 on the same Diwali day. Uttarakhand's cities have performed better overall, demonstrating our commitment to cleaner air, the spokesperson stated. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasised a long-term vision. Our goal is to ensure clean air not just during festivals, but year-round. This years results prove that real change is possible through innovation, awareness, and collective participation. Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board (UKPCB) Chairman, RK Sudhanshu, credited recent interventions for mitigating the worst effects. This year's cleaner Diwali is a result of collective effort, Sudhanshu stated. Drone-based water sprinkling, new mechanical sweeping machines, and intensive awareness campaigns in schools have shown a concrete impact. Specifically, drone-based water sprinkling helped control PM10 levels in Dehradun. Furthermore, the deployment of mechanical sweeping machines - procured under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in collaboration with the CPCB - significantly reduced road dust in Dehradun and Rishikesh.
BHOPAL: Diwali, the festival of lights, has brought a glimmer of helicopter-powered hope to farmers, holding the promise of freeing them, particularly in the western parts of Madhya Pradesh, of the menace of blackbucks and nilgais, which have been devouring standing crops for long. The helicopter-driven boma technique has been initiated by the forest department to capture herds of blackbucks and later nilgais and then shift them to wildlife sanctuaries and tiger reserves of MP, which is the only state to have cheetahs, tigers and leopards. The start was made on Monday in Kalapipal area of western MPs Shajapur district, which houses large populations of blackbucks and nilgais that have become a major destroyer of farmers standing crops. On Day One of the exercise, as many as 45 blackbucks were successfully captured and shifted to the safe zone of the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located 275 km away. The Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located in Mandsaur and Neemuch districts of western MP, is the second home to African cheetahs in India as well as a habitat of more than 35 leopards. Confirming the start of the exercise, MPs additional principal chief conservator of forests (APCCF-Wildlife) L Krishnamoorthy told TNIE on Tuesday, The helicopter-driven boma technique to capture the key antelope species began on Monday with the successful capture and shifting of 45 blackbucks. Though the exercise wasnt undertaken on Tuesday, it will be resumed on Wednesday, under the guidance of a 15-strong team of experts from South Africa, who over the years have mastered this art in their nation. This preliminary exercise will be ten days long in Shajapur district. Based on its success, it will be replicated in other parts of the state covering more antelope species, like the nilgais. The helicopter boma technique in South Africa is a method of mass animal capture where a helicopter herds animals into a large, funnel-shaped enclosure made of plastic or netting. As the animals move through the funnel, plastic curtains are closed behind them, forcing them into a solid-sided crush and up a ramp into a loading bay for transport. This technique is used for capturing large numbers of animals with minimal stress and contact, but it requires careful planning regarding wind direction. According to informed sources, the department plans to shift around 400 blackbucks and 100 nilgais to the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, using the helicopter boma technique. Shajapur is among the districts of MP where farmers have been suffering loss of crops due to blackbucks and nilgais. The district reportedly houses around 20,000 blackbucks and more than 3000 nilgais. The Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, which became home to African cheetahs in April 2025, currently houses three South African cheetahs and more than 35 leopards. The blackbucks have been freed in another part of the sanctuary, which is free from cheetahs or leopards. The aim is to first stabilize the population of blackbucks and nilgais there, a source connected to the developments said. While the helicopter-driven exercise is being used for the first time anywhere in India for blackbuck capture, back in 2016-17 it was used to capture more than 25 nilgais in western MPs Mandsaur district and relocate them to the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary.

Uma Bharti says she is willing to contest 2029 Lok Sabha polls if Uttar Pradeshs Jhansi seat given
BHOPAL:Perhaps the lone politician from Madhya Pradesh who has won Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls from two states former Chief Minister Uma Bharti is willing to contest the 2029 LS polls, if the BJP fields her from Uttar Pradeshs Jhansi seat. I have told journalists in UPs Lalitpur district that Im ready to contest the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, if fielded by the party (BJP) from Jhansi, the 66-year-old saffron-clad politician posted on the social media platform X (formerly twitter) on Sunday. Importantly, the former Madhya Pradesh CM, who has been a cabinet minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government as well as the Narendra Modi 1.0 regime at the centre, has won six LS polls between 1989 and 2014 from three seats of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, including four times from Khajuraho, once from Bhopal (MP) and the last time in 2014 from UPs Jhansi seat. Not only has she won the Lok Sabha polls from both MP and UP, but also emerged victorious for the BJP in assembly polls from the two neighbouring states, including the Malhara seat of Chhatarpur district of MP in 2003 and the Charkhari seat in Mahoba district of UP in 2012. Earlier on Saturday, while interacting with journalists in Lalitpur (UP), Bharti had reportedly said, Bundelkhand, of which Jhansi is a part, is my emotional home. I share a deep bond with its people. If the party asks, I will definitely contest. Bharti has kept herself away from electoral politics after winning the 2014 LS polls from Jhansi. She had cited health grounds and commitment to the cause of River Ganga to keep herself away from contesting the 2019 and 2024 national elections. In August this year, she had maintained that she wasnt away from politics and would return to the electoral field at an appropriate time. Back in March 2024, just a month before the Lok Sabha polls, Bharti (one of the frontal leaders of the Ram Temple Movement) had said, Till January 21, 2024, I was keen at contesting the LS polls and a prominent individual (who isnt part of BJP, but the party acts on his advice) asked me to finalize out of 2-3seats of UP (which didnt include Jhansi). I assured him that on my return from Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, Iwouldmake my choice of the seat in UP known. She added, But once at the Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, I remembered former VHP president Late Ashok Singhal, whose perseverance led to the realisation of the dream of Ram Temple construction. Suddenly, I was blessed with garlands of Ram Lala, which I offered in river Ganga in Unnao later and took a vow to work for the sacred rivers cause for the next two years. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, when the BJP swept Samajwadi Party-ruled UP, winning 73 seats out of the total 80 seats with its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal), Bharti had wrested the Jhansi Lok Sabha seat for the BJP from the Congress, by defeating the 2004 winner Chandra Pal Singh Yadav (SP) by over 1.90 lakh votes. The seat was retained by the BJP in 2019 and 2024 also, with the ruling partys nominee Anurag Sharma, winning it by 3.65 lakh and 1.02 lakh votes respectively.

After cough syrup tragedy, MP hospital recalls Azithromycin bottles over alleged worms
Amid growing concerns over child deaths linked to toxic cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh, a government hospital in Gwalior is facing a complaint over worms reportedly found in a bottle of antibiotic medicine given to a child, media reports said on Thursday. According to these reports, following a complaint by a woman whose child was administered the medicine, the entire stock of Azithromycin oral suspension at the government hospital in Morar town has been sealed, and samples have been sent to a laboratory in Bhopal for testing. Azithromycin is commonly prescribed to children for various infections. The medicine in question was reportedly a generic version manufactured by a Madhya Pradesh-based company. A drug inspector, Anubhuti Sharma, told media that a woman at the government hospital in Morar complained of worms in a bottle of Azithromycin oral suspension. Although the bottle brought in by the complainant was already opened, the matter was investigated immediately. All 306 bottles stored and distributed at the hospital have been recalled and seized, the reports added. Preliminary inspections of some bottles did not reveal signs of insects, but testing is being conducted to confirm safety. Chhattisgarh wins best performing state award for transparent PM-JAY implementation
RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh was bestowed with an award as best performing state for its effective execution, transparency and almost zero pendency on health care insurance claims and related issues under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). The award was received by Dr Priyanka Shukla, chief executive officer (CEO) of the state nodal agency at the National Health Authority (NHA) Conclave held in Bhopal on Wednesday. At the NHA review meeting in January 2025, Chhattisgarh was found to have a relatively high number of suspicious claims. To improve this situation, the state nodal agency developed and implemented a swift action plan to strengthen accountability and transparency in health services. The nodal agency has taken steady, resolute steps in recent months, including conducting extensive field audits to identify suspicious claims, significantly reducing the turnaround time (TAT) for claims processing, orientation and sensitivity training for all stakeholders, strengthening the State Anti-Fraud Unit (SAFU) team, and establishing regular communication and coordination mechanisms with empanelled healthcare providers (EHCPs). Besides intensive reviews at district and state level by the health secretary and CEO (state nodal officer), the health department team conducted surprise inspections of many hospitals across the state. Penalty action was taken against 45 hospitals (the highest ever) for non-compliance with the scheme's standards. Additionally, field audits were conducted in over 32,000 cases, preventing fraudulent claims and making the claim settlement process more transparent. Regular meetings are being held with representatives of the Indian Medical Association and private hospitals to address issues faced by empanelled hospitals. According to data from the National Health Authority, 97 percent of hospitals (the highest) registered under PM-JAY in Chhattisgarh are active, a testament to hospitals' confidence in the scheme. In contrast, this rate in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh is 62 %, and the national average is only 52 percent. Madhya Pradesh cop steals Rs 55 lakh cash, Rs 10 lakh jewellery from evidence room for gambling
BHOPAL:Madhya Pradesh Police continue to make news for wrong reasons. After the arrest of cops from Seoni and Bhopal districts in connection with two separate cases of alleged hawala moneys loot and the killing of a B.Tech student, now a head constable of police in Balaghat district, has been booked for theft of Rs 55 lakh cash and precious jewellery worth around Rs 10 lakh from the Malkhana (evidence storage room) of the Balaghat Kotwali police station. Deployed at the Balaghat Kotwalis Malkhana since last three years, the Malkhanas head constable in-charge, Rajiv Pandre, has been booked under the BNS and Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The money that was used by Pandre in gambling and betting was actually proceeds or crucial evidence of crime in various criminal cases, which was kept safely at the Malkhana. Investigations till now have revealed that Pandre had lost cash in gambling and betting. To offset the loss, he then pledged the gold and silver jewellery of the Malkhana in the same gambling and betting. The alleged theft came to light when a woman, after completing court procedures, approached the Kotwali police station in-charge for getting the money seized by the police in a case some months back. When the Balaghat Kotwali police station in-charge asked head constable Pandre to bring the money belonging to the woman, he first tried to mislead the police station in-charge, but, afraid of being caught, he attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself from a fan inside the police station premises, after locking himself in the Malkhana. The cops, however, saved Pandre in time. According to deputy police superintendent-Balaghat district, Pratistha Rathore, Rs 40 lakh cash and 140 gm gold have been recovered. Investigations have revealed that Pandre had a habit of gambling and betting in the adjoining Seoni district as well as Gondia in neighbouring Maharashtra. Earlier, he used to gamble with the money stolen from Malkhana. Pandre is being questioned.

Three ABVP leaders arrested in MP's Mandsaur for secretly filming girls changing costumes
BHOPAL : Three student leaders reportedly associated with the BJP's students wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were arrested in Mandsaur district of western Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday for secretly filming girl students while the girls were changing costumes in a room during the government colleges youth festival. On Wednesday, the local police station received a complaint from the principal of the Maharaja Yashwant Rao Holkar Government College, which alleged that CCTV footage at the college showed that the girl students were filmed secretly while changing costumes in the changing room, during preparations for an event of the ongoing youth festival at the college on Tuesday. The girl students reported the matter to us, after which the CCTV footage of the concerned floor revealed that four male students (all B.A. third-year students) were filming the girls from the ventilator of the changing room. Aiming to prevent the misuse of those visuals, which could have led to the girls resorting to extreme steps, the accused male students were identified and the police were informed about the matter, the government colleges principal, Dr. Priti Sharma, said. According to the Bhanpura police station in-charge, after getting the complaint, three of the four accused students have been arrested and booked under BNS Sections 77 and 3(5), which deal with voyeurism and crimes committed with two or more persons with a common intent. Ahead of Diwali, Madhya Pradesh approves proposals targeting soybean, millet farmers and pensioners
BHOPAL: Ahead of Diwali, the Madhya Pradesh government approved a series of proposals on Tuesday, targeting the soybean and millet farmers and pensioners in the state. Aiming to boost the interests of the soybean farmers in the state, which is considered the countrys soybean bowl, the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, approved the implementation of the Bhavantar Yojana, price deficit payment scheme of the central government. Under the special scheme for the Kharif season 2025, the soybean farmers will be compensated for the deficit between the current selling price being fetched by their produce in notified markets and the Rs 5328 per quintal minimum support price fixed for soybean. The scheme allows the government to compensate if farmers receive prices lower than the MSP, which is fixed at Rs 5,238 per quintal, after selling soybean in the notified markets. The government will pay the difference between the selling price and the MSP. The government has fixed the MSP for soybeans under this scheme at Rs 5,238, urban administration and development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya informed after the meeting. Under the special scheme, soybean will be sold in the states notified mandis from October 24, 2025, to January 15, 2026. The model rate will be calculated based on the weighted average of soybean prices over 14 days in state mandis. The difference between the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the market/model rate will be transferred via DBT to the registered farmers bank accounts. The decision was long-awaited, particularly in the state which accounts for almost 60 per cent of the country's soybean production, and has seen steep decline in soybean prices, due to excess supply and inclement weather. In another key decision, the state cabinet decided to procure kodo and kutki (millets) from farmers in major millet-producing districts for the first time, benefiting a large number of tribal farmers. Under the Rani Durgavati Shree-Ann Protsahan Yojana, procurement of Kodo and Kutki will be undertaken from farmers in the leading production districts Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Dindori, Chhindwara, Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Rewa, Sidhi, and Singrauli. Based on demand, procurement from farmers of other districts will also be considered. Procurement will be carried out by Shree Ann Consortium of Farmer-Producer Company Limited (Shree Ann Federation). For Kharif season 2025, approximately 30,000 metric tons of milletKutki at Rs 3,500 per quintal and Kodo at Rs 2,500 per quintal will be procured. The Federation will receive an interest-free loan of Rs 80 crore from the States Price Stabilisation Fund. Additionally, an incentive of Rs 1,000 per quintal will be directly transferred (DBT) to the bank accounts of eligible farmers. Further, the cabinet also approved a proposal to increase the dearness relief (DR) payable to pensioners in the state and family pensioners by 2 per cent. Around 4.5 lakh pensioners will benefit from the decision. This increase will result in an additional financial burden of approximately Rs 170 crore on the state exchequer for the current financial year. The decision aligns with the communication from the Government of Chhattisgarh dated August 25, 2025.
Two more arrests made in Madhya Pradesh Coldrif cough syrup deaths; four arrested so far
BHOPAL: Two more arrests have been made in the case related to the acute kidney failure deaths of at least 23 kids caused by Coldrif cough syrup poisoning in Chhindwara and adjoining districts of southern Madhya Pradesh. Rajesh Soni, the prime stockist of the concerned cough syrup in Parasia town of Chhindwara district and Saurabh Jain, the pharmacist in the medical store from which most parents purchased the cough syrup, have been arrested. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has climbed to four. Prior to the arrests of Soni and Jain, Dr Pravin Soni (the government doctor who prescribed the cough syrup to most kids at his private clinic) and Ranganathan Govindan, the owner of the Tamil Nadu-based cough syrup manufacturing unit, Sresan Pharma, were arrested in the case on October 4 and October 11. Among the two men arrested on Monday evening, Rajesh Soni is Dr Pravin Sonis close relative, while Saurabh Jain is the pharmacist of the Apna Medical Store, whose license was reportedly held in the name of the doctors wife. While confirming the two fresh arrests in the case, the Chhindwara district police superintendent Ajay Pandey told TNIE on Tuesday, Our team has taken the manufacturing units owner Ranganathan back to Tamil Nadu. The special investigation team (SIT) took him to the manufacturing unit and related premises on Tuesday and gathered fresh evidence in support of the case. According to a source privy to the ongoing SIT probe, more arrests are likely in the coming days from Tamil Nadu, particularly of the chemical analyst of the manufacturing unit. The chemical analyst is likely to be nabbed in the next few hours. Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports suggest that the arrested doctor, Pravin Soni, got 10 per cent commission from the manufacturer unit on the sale of each cough syrup, which was priced at Rs 24.54 per bottle. The doctor had been prescribing the same cough syrup to kids since many years, a fact which has been narrated by him during police questioning at the time of his arrest. Importantly, the prime stockist of the syrup in Parasia town of Chhindwara district, too, is closely related to the arrested doctor. As per sources connected to the probe, Dr Soni, the leading paediatrician of Parasia town, continued to prescribe the now-banned Coldrif cough syrup even after central government guidelines had prohibited fixed-dose combination (FDC) medicines for children under four years of age. Though SP Ajay Pandey denied comment on the 10 per cent commission which Dr Soni received for every bottle he prescribed, a senior cop associated with the probe asked why any doctor would not just prescribe a particular cough syrup for years, but also be crucially connected with the stocking of the syrup in the town, without getting any commission. Dr Sonis lawyer, Pawan Shukla, however, rubbished the reports, saying, what is being called as confession by my client before the police is fabricated and legally worthless. The cops are just fabricating a story, as they dont have any direct and strong evidence against him.
