Madhya Pradesh deputy CM sparks controversy saying, 'whole country, army bowing at PM's feet'
BHOPAL: The controversy triggered by Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah's recent remarks on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi is yet to settle down when another controversy has erupted this time, by a contentious statement made by deputy chief minister Jagdish Devda. While addressing a training programme of civil defense volunteers in Jabalpur on Friday, Jagdish Devda reportedly said, The whole country, the country's army and soldiers bow down at the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His remarks, made in the context of Indias retaliatory Operation Sindoor following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, have drawn accusations of insulting the armed forces. Referring to the national outrage over the attack on tourists and praising Indias military response, Devda added that the nation was unanimous on avenging the terror attack and expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister and the armed forces. The opposition Congress accused Jagdish Devda of insulting the valour and courage of the Indian Armed Forces. The Congress, led by Supriya Shrinate, chairperson of its digital and social media platform, condemned the statement as cheap and shameful, accusing Devda of undermining the bravery and independence of the Indian Armed Forces. The party released a 45-second clip of the speech on its official 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle, demanding Devdas immediate dismissal and an apology from the BJP. Shrinate demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately give marching orders (sack) both MP deputy CM Jagdish Devda for his army-soldiers bow at the PMs feet remark and the MP cabinet minister Vijay Shah for his sister of terrorists remarks on Colonel Sofia Qureshi. Devda, however, hit out at the Congress and also sections of the media for distorting his speech. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh tribal welfare minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has landed himself in a major controversy by making a rabidly communal remark about Colonel Sofia Qureshi. NIHSAD test report confirms bird flu as cause of Asiatic lion Pataudi's death at Kanpur zoo
LUCKNOW: The pathology report of Asiatic lion Pataudi , who died at Kanpur Zoo on Thursday, confirmed H5N1 (Avian Influenza) commonly known as bird flu, to be the cause of the felines demise. Pataudi was at Ashfaq Ullah Khan Zoo in Gorakhpur and was shifted to Kanpur Zoo for treatment on May 11 after a tigress named Shakti died of bird flu on May 7, causing a state-wide alert. Meanwhile, after test reports from the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases(NIHSAD), Bhopal, confirmed bird flu as the cause of Pataudis death late Thursday night, Kanpur Zoo cremated the tiger in an electric furnace. Samples of the liver, intestines, and saliva were preserved for further tests, and the entire process was video-recorded by the authorities. Notably, the zoos in Lucknow, Kanpur, and Gorakhpur, along with the Etawah Lion Safari, were shut till May 20 amid bird flu concerns. After Pataudis death, fogging and sanitisation were intensified near the animal enclosure and the entire premises of Kanpur zoo, said Kanpur Zoo ranger Naved Ikram. Moreover, additional samples from animals have been collected and sent for testing. As per the informed sources, Pataudi, 15, was brought to Etawah Lion Safari from Junagarh in Gujarat in September, 2019. After spending two years in Etawah Lion Safari, Pataudi was relocated in Gorakhpur zoo in 2021. The wildlife authorities claimed that the lion was under treatment of pancreatic and hepatic infections. For the last two days, the feline had stopped consuming food and was surviving only on water. He was administered with intravenous medication, and an examination of the animal was conducted by the veterinary doctors on Wednesday. According to Dr Nasir, who had been supervising the team of four veterinary doctors of the state animal husbandry department attending Pataudi, the lion had consumed a kg of chicken upon his arrival in Kanpur Zoo on May 11. However, he stopped eating anything from Tuesday onwards.

Treasure trove of medieval gold and silver coins seized from labourers at construction site in MP
BHOPAL: Labourers digging at a site belonging to a primary school teacher in Madhya Pradeshs Shahdol district have stumbled upon a treasure trove of rare medieval gold and silver coins. They were working on the construction of a new house after the existing house at the site had been pulled down. The labourers, identified as Ram Nath, Buddhsen Singh and Ravi Singh, who sold three coins to make a quick buck, have been arrested by the Shahdol district police. As many as 53 coins, including 51 silver coins and two gold coins, have been seized from the arrested trio, who have been booked under the provisions of the Indian Treasure Trove Act 1878. The questioning of the labourer Ram Nath, from whom 46 coins have been recovered, led the police to a jeweller who admitted purchasing one of the gold coins weighing 10.8 gm from him for Rs 70,000. The jeweller has told the Shahdol district police that the gold coin was 99.8% pure. Weve shared with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) experts in Bhopal, the pictures and other details of the coins seized from the three labourers. The experts believe that the coins bearing Arabic and Persian inscriptions date back to the Medieval Indian Period the rule of Alauddin Khilji and the reign of Sher Shah Suris son Islam Shah Suri (13th century to 16th century). The construction work at the concerned site in Khamha village has been halted with immediate effect, Shahdol district police superintendent Ramji Srivastava told TNIE on Thursday. The matter came to light on Tuesday when the sarpanch of Khamaha village informed the local police that the labourers were in custody of rare silver and gold coins found by them at the site belonging to primary school teacher Puran Singh Gond where work is underway to construct a new house. The village sarpanch got to know about the matter from one of the three labourers who was disgruntled at getting the least number of coins. The local police swung into action and the three labourers were detained for questioning. Their quizzing revealed that they found the treasure trove of rare coins while digging at the site of the dismantled house for construction work. Ram Nath then admitted having sold a gold coin to a local jeweller for Rs 70,000, while the two other labourers sold two silver coins in local fairs.
BHOPAL: Expressing displeasure over the FIR filed against Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Vijay Shah for calling Colonel Sofiya Qureshi the sister of terrorists , the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday said it will monitor the police investigation into the matter. Taking up the matter on priority, a day after the Manpur police in Indore Rural district registered a FIR against Shah under BNS Sections 152, 196(1)(b) and 197(1)(C) on the basis of the HCs Wednesday order, the same division bench of the High Court in Jabalpur, observed on Thursday that the state has complied with the Courts order and registered the FIR. But the FIR has been drawn in a manner so as to assist the suspect to be able to have the FIR quashed on a later date. The FIR has been registered in such a manner, leaving sufficient space open so that if it is challenged under erstwhile section 482 of CrPc (section 528 BNSS), the same may be quashed because it is deficient in material particulars of the actions which constitutes each of the specific offences. This is gross subterfuge on the part of the State. The FIR has been drawn in a manner so as to assist the suspect Vijay Shah to be able to have the FIR quashed on a later date, the division bench comprising Justices Atul Sreedharan and Anuradha Shukla stated in the four-page order. The FIR is brief, having gone through the FIR in its entirety, there is not a single mention of the actions of the suspect, which would satisfy the ingredients of the offences which have been registered against him. At this juncture this Court desists from embarking on a journey to find out as to who was responsible in the chain of command of the state police for this clumsy attempt. This Court shall endeavour to find out the same in future proceedings, the HC added. However, in order to ensure that said subterfuge is nipped in the bud, this Court directs that its entire May 14 order shall be read as part of paragraph 12 of the FIR for all judicial, quasi-judicial and investigating process henceforth. In view of the nature of the case and the manner in which the FIR has been registered, which does not inspire confidence of this Court, and the Court is of the opinion that if the case is not duly monitored, the police would not investigate fairly in the interest of justice in accordance with law. Under the circumstances, this Court feels compelled to ensure that it monitors the investigation without interfering in the independence of the investigating agency, but only to the extent of monitoring that it acts fairly in accordance with law without being influenced by any extraneous pressures or directions, the order mentioned. The HIgh Court further ordered the listing of the case for hearing on top priority on June 16. Shah moves Supreme Court for stay on HCs order On the same day when the HC pulled up the state for the improper FIR against Shah, he moved the Supreme Court, challenging the MP High Courts Wednesday order, directing registration of FIR against him. While agreeing to hear on Friday, his urgent plea seeking stay on the HCs Wednesday order (FIR registered against him) the top courts division bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih refused to stay the proceedings started on the HCs order. The top court also rebuked the MP minister, reportedly stating, Holding a constitutional position, you should have exercised a degree of restraint, particularly when the nation is undergoing such a situation.

Castigating Shah, the bench said the armed forces were perhaps the last institution in this country that reflect integrity, discipline, sacrifice, character, honour and indomitable courage. It directed that the matter to be listed on top priority for Thursday. Bird flu scare: Death of a tigress lead to closure of zoos in Uttar Pradesh
LUCKNOW: The death of a tigress in Gorakhpur zoo led to the closure of Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur zoos along with Etawah Lion Safari for a week on Tuesday evening following the bird flu scare in the state zoos. The decision to shut the zoos came after the death of a tigress Shakti at the Gorakhpur zoo as bird flu was confirmed as the cause of the death of feline. Meanwhile, all the Tiger reserves, including Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in Lakhimpur Kheri, Amangarh Tiger Reserve in Bijnore, Ranipur Tiger Reserve in Chitrakoot and Suhelva Tiger Reserve in Balrampur, in the state have been directed to be on high alert. The wildlife authorities got alerted after the death of tigress Shakti at Gorakhpur zoo on May 7. Its viscera samples were sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, which confirmed bird flu as the cause of death on Tuesday. The tigress, Shakti, was over two years old and was brought to Gorakhpur after her rescue from Lakhimpur Kheris Mailani in May, 2024. Also, the viscera examination of the tigress by NIHSAD confirmed the presence of a rare Vibrio bacterial infection. This bacterium, typically found in aquatic life including fish and seabirds, is a potential risk of spreading H5N1 (avian influenza) through direct contact. Infection in several big cat species, including tigers, leopards, and others is common as they feed on infected poultry carcasses. Cats are also prone to infection because of their risk of exposure to poultry or wild birds, say the wild life experts. Moreover, female wolf Bhairavi also succumbed at the Gorakhpur zoo and its viscera samples were sent to IVRI Bareilly. Bhairavi's results are awaited. Meanwhile, a sick tiger named Pataudi was recently transferred to the Kanpur zoo, raising concerns about the potential spread of the virus there. The monitoring of all animals in the zoo is being done. They are being checked for symptoms of bird flu or other illnesses. Keepers have been made aware of the symptoms, said the senior forest official. According to Anuradha Vemuri, the principal chief conservator of forest-Wildlife (PCCF-Wildlife), the highest protocol was already in place. The zoos in Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur districts and the lion safari in Etawah shall remain closed for a week, she said. In a late Tuesday evening message to the staff of tiger reserves, senior forest officials asked them to keep a watch on the behaviour of animals on their premises and report if any of them fell sick or died. Meanwhile, Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, taking cognizance of the scare, directed the wildlife authorities to enforce maximum vigilance in all zoos in Uttar Pradesh to check the spread of H5N1 avian influenza (bird flu). As per an official statement, the CM chaired a high-level meeting saying the safety of protected animals and birds in zoos, bird sanctuaries, national parks, wetland areas and cow shelters must be treated as the topmost priority. He instructed officials to take all necessary preventive measures promptly and strictly in accordance with the guidelines issued by both the central and state governments to curb the possible spread of the infection. As a preventive strategy, Yogi ordered regular sanitization of zoo premises and the use of blow torching where needed. He also emphasized mandatory health screenings of all wild animals and birds, along with strict inspection of their food to prevent any contamination. The CM directed that all zoo staff be fully aware about avian influenza and equipped with PPE kits and other essential safety gear. He further said that staff duties within enclosures be assigned according to the level of associated risk. He called for strict monitoring of all poultry farms in line with safety protocols and tight control over the movement of poultry products. He directed the health department to assess the potential impact of bird flu on humans to prevent any risk of transmission to the public. The CM said that zoo authorities should be in regular contact with institutions like the Central Zoo Authority, National Centre for Disease Control, ministry of health, department of fisheries and dairy, and the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, to seek advice and implement necessary action accordingly. At the same time, Gorakhpur health officials had collected blood samples from over 100 staff members of the Zoo, especially, those who were in touch with the Tigress Shakti. Their reports are expected by Wednesday, said Dr Yogesh Singh, the veterinary doctor at the Gorakhpur Zoo. He added that the entire zoo premises was sanitized. Dr Singh maintained that all animals, approximately 300 in number, present in Gorakhpur Zoo, were healthy and showed no signs of infection during their examination conducted on Tuesday.

MP approves Rs 47 cr to check elephant attack
BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved Rs 47.11 crore-detailed plan for management of wild elephants and reducing human-elephant conflicts. The approval came on Tuesday, seven months after the death of 10 wild elephants (nine of them being pregnant) reportedly due to kodo (millet) crop mycotoxin poisoning in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in October 2024 end. The plan will span four financial years 2023-24 to 2026-27. Under it, Rs 1.52 crore has already been spent during 2023-24 and 2024-25 on elephant safety and monitoring. As per the cabinet decision, Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for 2025-26 and Rs 25.59 crore for 2026-27. The comprehensive plan focuses on areas within protected zones where elephants are known to move or reside, as well as regions outside such zones. It includes provisions for the safety and monitoring of wild elephants, habitat management and development. Control rooms will be set up for elephant monitoring, and various infrastructure will be developed to mitigate human-wildlife conflict. E-eye surveillance systems will be established and operated. Animal rescue and rehabilitation efforts will also be undertaken. The plan also includes training programmes for local villagers, forest department personnel, and officials from other departments to manage human-elephant conflict in affected areas. Tackling dropout, staff crunch in Maoist-hit district Irregular attendance or dropout cases were checked through counselling by village-based Bal-mitras (education workers). The Shiksha Samarthan programme helped fill the gap of teacher shortage with graduate youths roped in as guest teachers.
Madhya Pradesh: 28-year-old man dies by suicide after killing 3 minor daughters
The man had come to Madhya Pradesh from Haryana with his wife and three minor daughters of one, five and seven years of age to attend the wedding of his brother-in-law
Madhya Pradesh minister sparks row over remarks on Colonel Sofia Qureshi
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh tribal welfare minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has landed himself in a major controversy by making a rabidly communal remark about Colonel Sofia Qureshi. The Indian Army officer had along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force had briefed the media through Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. Addressing a public gathering during a government function in Mhow (Indore district) on Monday, the BJP leader praised Prime Minister Narendra Modis leadership in responding to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. However, while doing so, he made a comment that has drawn sharp criticism. Shah brought up Operation Sindoor and said that the prime minister had sent a sister from the same community as those in Pakistan to avenge the April 22 terror strike in Kashmirs Pahalgam. Modi ji is striving for the society. Those who widowed our daughters (in Pahalgam), we sent a sister of their own to teach them a lesson, Shah said to an applause from the audience. Raking up how the terrorists in Pahalgam had apparently done physical checks on tourists to identify them by their religion and shoot them, Shah continued: Now, Modi ji could not have done the same. So he sent a sister from their societyso that if you widowed our sisters, a sister of yours will come and undress you. And he [Modi] had said India will strike them in their own home. The controversial speech was made in Mhow, a region that holds strategic military significance as the location of a major army base. Political Backlash The opposition Congress reacted strongly. Sharing the video clip on social media platform X, it accused Shah of calling Indian Army officers sisters of terrorists, a statement it said insults not just women in uniform but the entire armed forces. The brave daughters of our army are sisters of terrorists this disgusting utterance has been made by MP minister Vijay Shah. This is an insult to our mighty army, the Congress post read. Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari demanded Shahs immediate dismissal from the state cabinet. If the chief minister fails to sack Shah, it will be seen as the state cabinet endorsing his indecent and communal remarks, Patwari stated. Facing mounting pressure and public outrage, Shah issued a clarification on Tuesday, claiming his words were misunderstood. I come from a military family background, with members who were martyred in Kargil. If my comments, spoken in anger over the killings in Pahalgam, hurt anyone, I apologize, he said. He went on to praise Colonel Sofia Qureshi directly, saying, I salute sister Sofia who rose above caste and communal lines to make India proud. She is more respectable than my own sister. A History of Controversy This is not the first time Shah has found himself at the center of a political storm. In April 2013, he resigned from his ministerial post amid allegations of making inappropriate remarks about women BJP leaders, including a reference to the wife of then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. More recently, in March 2024, Shah sparked criticism for suggesting Bollywood actor and BJP MP Hema Malini be made the brand ambassador of India Post to attract deposits. Make her the brand ambassador and then tell me, as were Hema Malinis patthe (followers). Well pull all the poor peoples money from banks into the post office, he had remarked during an event in Khandwa. The controversy comes at a sensitive time for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, with local body elections approaching. While Shahs remarks may galvanize some segments, they risk alienating others and may lead to further calls for disciplinary action from within the party and the public.

Madhya Pradesh: Mission D-3 shows results in tribal districts
BHOPAL: What began as a silent movement by tribal youths last November to liberate marriages from dowry, liquor, DJ music, has turned into a force to reckon with in just six months. Titled Mission D3, the movement has spread to every corner of Bhil and Bhilala tribe dominated Jhabua and Alirajpur districts of western Madhya Pradesh. The initiative has succeeded in saving poor tribal families from falling in the debt trap of private money lenders for financing the 3Ds dahej (dowry), daroo (liquor) and DJ music in marriages. On May 11, a Bhil tribe family in Kaliyavav village of Alirajpur district, married their daughter sans the three evils. There is no place for all three Ds in my daughters wedding. Weve completely kept the marriage simple, where traditional musicians armed with dhols and madals are belting out old tunes, the brides father Thawar Singh said at the wedding ceremony. The local MLA and MP minister Nagarsing Chouhan was also present. A month ago, Mukesh Patel, the former Congress MLA from Alirajpur seat married off his daughter Puja, without any DJ music. My district Alirajpur, follows a practice of close relatives bringing DJ music parties as gifts. As part of the ongoing Mission D3, my daughters wedding card clearly banned the entry of DJs, while only allowing traditional music players. On November 17, 2024, young social activist Nitesh Alawa, along with his supporters, started the movement to rid the marriages from the 3Ds. Be it Alirajpur or the neighbouring Jhabua, the 3Ds has become an integral part of marriages. Earlier, even the poorest of families had to spend between `1 lakh and `5 lakh for dowry, liquor and DJ music. Unable to meet the high expenses, they fell in the trap of local money lenders. Once the marriage was solemnised, the newly-weds, instead of enjoying their marital life, were forced to migrate to adjoining Gujarat and work as labourers to repay the loans taken by their parents. With active cooperation of public representatives and powerful men of villages, we spread the movement across several villages. A senior journalist of Jhabua-Alirajpur region Chandrabhan Singh Bhadauria said, While Alawa and other tribal youths led the mission in Alirajpur, in the adjoining Jhabua district, the police led by district police chief Padam Vilochan Shukla, has joined forces with local residents in ensuring its success through awareness meetings at individual village level. Movement saving poor from falling into debt trap Titled Mission D3, the movement has spread to every corner of Bhil and Bhilala tribe-dominated Jhabua and Alirajpur districts of western Madhya Pradesh. The initiative has saved poor tribal families from falling in the debt trap of private money lenders for financing the 3Ds dahej (dowry), daroo (liquor) and DJ music in marriages.

After mega water project, MP & Maharashtra plan to set up spiritual tourism circuit
BHOPAL: After the signing of a historic MoU for the worlds largest groundwater recharge, the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge project, neighbouring states Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have identified more potential areas of inter-state cooperation, including a spiritual tourism circuit connecting the jyotirlingas in the two states. At the meeting with his Maharashtra counterpart on Saturday, Devendra Fadnavis, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav proposed the setting up of a religious tourism circuit by connecting the two Jyotirlingas of his stateShri Mahakaleshwar and Shri Omkareshwarwith Maharashtras JyotirlingasShri Trimbakeshwar, Shri Bhimashankar, and Shri Grishneshwar. These pilgrimage sites are major centres of faith for people of both states and the country. Both, MP and Maharashtra will work together across multiple sectors, including industry, cultural and spiritual traditions, tourism, and horticulture. They will jointly preserve their shared cultural heritage and increase activities of mutual cooperation in these areas, Yadav told journalists. CM Yadav further mentioned that a significant volume of pharmaceuticals, textiles, and agricultural products from Madhya Pradesh is exported through various ports in Maharashtra. The two states will consider establishing a dedicated export facilitation cell at Maharashtras ports. Building a dedicated freight corridor between Jabalpur and Nagpur would result in significant savings in cost, time, and freight charges for goods transportation in Central India. While stating that the Maratha rule had deep links with MP, Yadav said that the histories of valiant warriors like Bajirao Peshwa, the Holkars, Shindes (Scindias), Tatya Tope, Rani Lakshmi Bai, and Appaji Bhonsle will be compiled and digitized as part of a historical preservation effort. As part of this initiative, both states can collaborate in preserving and publishing manuscripts written in the Modi script.
Stray dogs mutilate body awaiting autopsy at Madhya Pradesh hospital
BHOPAL: Stray dogs have exposed security at a government hospital in central Madhya Pradeshs Narmadapuram district. The body of a youth kept in a hall instead of the mortuary, for autopsy, was reportedly mutilated by stray dogs at the Narmadapuram district hospital early on Saturday. A youth identified as Nikhil Chourasia was returning from a marriage along with two friends when they met with a road accident, resulting in Nikhils death late on Friday night. His two friends, Ritik and Rohit, are stated to be critical of the hospital. Nikhils body was subsequently sent by the police for autopsy at the Narmadapuram district hospital. But instead of being kept at the mortuary, it was kept in a hall near one of the wards. Early on Saturday morning, the relatives of the deceased youth found that the body, kept in the hall, was mutilated by stray dogs. A viral video related to the shocking incident showed the throat and jaw of the body badly torn by stray dogs, infuriating the Chourasias kin. We had just gone out from the hospital to get drinking water, but on returning, we found that my cousins body was mutilated by stray dogs. When we raised the matter with the on-duty security and other staff, they misbehaved with us, a relative of the deceased youth is seen alleging in the video. In another video, a female relative of the deceased could be seen narrating the shocking incident outside the hospitals casualty room. The body was kept for autopsy. Are it stray dogs that perform post-mortem on the bodies of poor people? While admitting that the shocking development happened with the body kept for autopsy, the civil surgeon of the district hospital, Dr Sudhir Vijayvargiya, said, What happened is very unfortunate. Weve ordered a probe into the entire incident. A show cause notice will be issued to the on-duty security guard, followed by appropriate action. Well also ensure that no such incident happens in the future.

MP, Maharashtra sign MoU for implementing worlds largest ground recharge project
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly implement the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project, described by officials as the worlds largest groundwater recharge scheme. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis attended the 28th meeting of the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra Inter State Control Board here, where both the BJP-ruled state governments inked the MoU. The Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project is the third major inter-state river project featuring MP in the last five months, after the Ken-Betwa Link Project, which features MP and UP, and Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link project, which has participation of MP and Rajasthan. Through the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project, three streams of the Tapti river, which originates from Multai in MP, will be developed in collaboration with the Maharashtra government to ensure optimal use of every drop of river water for irrigation in across both the states. The interests of Madhya Pradeshs water needs have been carefully considered in this project. The total water usage in the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project will be 31.13 TMC , with 11.76 TMC allocated to MP and 19.36 TMC to Maharashtra. The project will utilise 3,362 hectares of land in Madhya Pradesh, with no displacement of villages and no need for rehabilitation. The project will provide permanent irrigation facilities to 1,23,082 hectares in Madhya Pradesh and 2,34,706 hectares in Maharashtra. Initially, a traditional reservoir project of 66 TMC capacity was proposed, which would have affected over 17,000 hectares of land, including forest areas and tiger reserves, and displaced around 14,000 people across 73 villages. The earlier model has now been replaced with a groundwater recharge-based approach, avoiding displacement and environmental impact. Today is a historic day as both states have agreed to implement the project conceptualised a long time back. Even the Inter-State Control Board meeting happened after 25 years, Fadnavis said. Both states will benefit from the implementation of the project, with Maharashtras three districts Budhana, Akola and Amravati, which have long been facing the problem of salty water, will be the major beneficiaries. This will help agriculture, drinking water and boost the overall economy of the two neighbouring states, he said. CM Yadav said, The implementation of the project will boost the entire economy of the Nimar (southwestern MP) region.

LIC managers wife seeks public killing of terrorists
BHOPAL: Hours after Indias armed forces successfully conducted precision strikes on terrorist camps, the widow of one of the tourists killed in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, said complete justice remains undone. We knew our government will avenge the attack, but justice for us will remain incomplete till the four men who shot dead my husband and other tourists arent gunned down publicly. Those four terrorists need to be gunned down publicly by our security forces, we need to see the same terror of death on their (four terrorists) faces, which we experienced on April 22, said Jenifer Nathaniel, the wife of victim Sushil Nathaniel who was an LIC branch manager. Those who indoctrinate, brainwash and guide men to become terrorists also need to be eliminated, which seems to have been done by our forces a few hours back. But we want those four men to be shot dead publicly, till then justice will remain incomplete and undone, said Jenifer.
BHOPAL: Hours after Operation Sindoor, Jenifer Nathaniel, wife of Pahalgam terror attack victim Sushil Nathaniel, said, complete justice remains undone until the four terrorists who shot dead my husband and other tourists are gunned down publicly. Jenifer Nathaniel is an Indore-based school teacher, and her slain husband was a LIC branch manager. I came to know about the aerial strikes on the terror launchpads in Pakistan and PoK at 6 am. We knew our government would avenge the attack, but justice for us remains incomplete. Those four terrorists need to be gunned down publicly by our security forces. We need to see the terror of dying on their faces just like us, she said. Those who indoctrinate, brainwash and guide men to become terrorists need to be eliminated. It seems to have been done by our forces a few hours back, she said. I still remember the anger in the eyes of the army jawans who safely shifted the families (of those who lost their loved ones) on April 22 from Pahalgam. The anger spoke volumes that our jawans were focused on avenging the Pahalgam killings. It has partially been completed. Jenifer had visited Kashmir along with her husband Sushil Nathaniel, daughter Akanksha and son Austin on a vacation trip. Sushil Nathaniel was the lone Christian to have been gunned down by the four terrorists on April 22. BJP leaders hail Operation Sindoor
Chambal model to uproot Maoists in MP soon
BHOPAL: More than two decades after special anti-dacoit informers played a key role in elimination of inter-state dacoits from the ravines of Chambal, Madhya Pradesh is set to replicate the same strategy to end the menace of left-wing extremism (LWE) in three districts bordering Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. The state cabinet on Tuesday approved 850 posts for a special auxiliary force for Maoist-affected Balaghat, Mandla and Dindori districts for one year. The 850 volunteers will get a monthly honorarium of Rs 25,000 each for one year, which will cost Rs 25 crore to the state government. Following the aggressive anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, there are inputs of movement of the outlaws in the three districts of MP. The 850 recruits, who will be local residents, will serve as a key information base to forces engaged in anti-Naxal operations, cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said. A similar army of 1000 informers had played important role in elimination of dreaded dacoit gangs from the ravines of Chambal. Those 1000 posts were lying defunct since dacoits were eliminated. As many as 150 of such informers were recruited in 2022 in the Maoist-hit areas of the state, who, police say, played a key role in elimination of Maoists in the last two years, including six women Maoist cadres in February-March. This latest decision to recruit 850 youngsters will give a decisive edge to the forces engaged in anti-Maoists operations in the dense forests. It will not just give employment for a year to the youth, but the best and most skilled among them might well be absorbed in the police force in the same region, special DG (anti-Naxal operations) Pankaj Srivastava told this newspaper. According to sources, 60-75 armed Maoists, including women cadres, are moving in the jungles of Balaghat, Mandla and Dindori districts. 850 posts for a special auxiliary force okayed The state cabinet Tuesday approved 850 posts for a special auxiliary force for Maoist-affected Balaghat, Mandla and Dindori districts for one year. 16 men rescued from bonded labour in MP's Guna district; nine arrested, search underway for three
BHOPAL: At least 16 men from multiple states, who were held captive and forced to work as bonded labourers by powerful individuals, have been rescued by authorities in Madhya Pradeshs Guna district. The men were freed from various locations including private homes, agricultural fields, roadside dhabas, cowsheds, and brick kilns, where they had been kept in inhuman conditions. According to officials, they were subjected to severe abuse, including electric shocks, whenever they attempted to escape or resisted working without pay. The rescued individuals, aged between 20 and 65, hail from several states including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Maharashtra. Many of the victims are reportedly mentally disturbed due to prolonged torture, inadequate food, and physical abuse. Some have been admitted to the Guna district hospital for treatment. Once their condition stabilizes, they will be moved to the Apna Ghar shelter home in neighbouring Shivpuri district. Efforts are underway to trace their families, and the men will be reunited with them based on information gathered during the rescue operation. Acting on specific intelligence inputs about elderly men being held as bonded labourers, joint teams of the Guna district administration, labour department, and police launched a rescue operation on Saturday and freed 16 individuals from captivity in several villages of Chachoura region, including Binaganj, Jaisinghpura, and Chak Patodi. The men had been held in inhuman conditions by powerful local families and forced to work without pay in agricultural fields, cowsheds, and roadside eateries. Many of them were found in tattered clothing and visibly malnourished. The rescued men Among the rescued was 60-year-old Rama from Gujarat, a former schoolteacher who once taught English and Mathematics to Class X students in Ahmedabad. Around two decades ago, he began a religious pilgrimage on foot from Shirdi to Mathura. While passing through Binaganj in Guna district, he was reportedly abducted by a local family and forced into bonded labour on farms and cattle sheds for 19 years. Another victim, 32-year-old Virendra Yadav from Unchahar in Uttar Pradeshs Rae Bareli district, had previously worked at NTPC plants and even ran his own sweet shop. While travelling through Madhya Pradesh some years ago, he was allegedly abducted by a man named Bhura and held captive in Binaganj. He was forced to work without wages, tending to cattle in a cowshed owned by a powerful family. Also rescued was 65-year-old Vimal Kumar from Fatehpur district in UP. He was travelling from Kanpur to Indore by car when his vehicle broke down. A man identified as Bittu offered him help but instead handed him over to another family. Vimal was then held captive and forced into bonded labour. When he attempted to escape, he was brutally assaulted and subjected to electric shocks. Authorities have initiated legal action against those responsible. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to provide medical treatment, counselling, and eventual rehabilitation of the rescued men. The middle-aged and elderly men, who had been forced into bonded labour by powerful individuals in several villages for years, have been freed, said Guna District Police Superintendent Ankit Soni. Cases have been registered against 12 individuals under various sections of the BNS, including Sections 127(4), 127(6), 143(2), 146, 115(2), 351(2), and 3(5). Nine of the accused have already been arrested, and a search is underway for the remaining three. In light of reports suggesting that more bonded labourers may still be held captive by influential individuals in other villages, the Guna district administration has vowed to continue its crackdown on such exploitative practices.
Dismissed CRPF trooper says marriage with Pakistani woman took place after HQ approval
JAMMU: Hours after being dismissed from service for concealing his marriage with a Pakistani woman , CRPF trooper Munir Ahmed on Saturday said he solemnized his marriage nearly a month after getting permission from the force's headquarters last year. Ahmed, a resident of Gharota area of Jammu who had joined CRPF in April 2017, said he will challenge his dismissal in the court of law. I am sure of getting justice. The Central Reserve Police Force has dismissed Ahmed for concealing his marriage with Pakistani woman Minal Khan and knowingly harbouring her beyond the validity of her visa, saying his actions were detrimental to national security. I initially came to know about my dismissal through media reports. I shortly received a letter from the CRPF informing me about the dismissal which came as a shock to me and my family as I have sought and received permission for my marriage to a Pakistani woman from the headquarters, Ahmad told PTI over phone from his house. Ahmed's marriage with Khan came to light after India asked Pakistani nationals to leave the country as part of diplomatic measures taken in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people were killed. Khan entered India through the Wagah-Attari border on February 28 and her short-term visa ended on March 22. However, her deportation was stayed by the high court and she is presently staying in Ahmeds Jammu residence. I made the first correspondence on December 31, 2022 informing my wish to marry the Pakistani national and I was asked to complete formalities like enclosing copies of passport, marriage card and affidavits. I submitted my affidavit and also the affidavits of my parents, sarpanch, and district development council member through proper channels and finally got a go ahead from the headquarters on April 30, 2024, he said. The CRPF trooper said he applied for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) but he was told that such a provision is not available and he has already completed the formalities by informing the government about his marriage to a foreign national in accordance with the rules. We got married online on May 24 last year through a video call. Subsequently, I submitted marriage pictures, 'Nikkah' papers and marriage certificate to my 72 Battalion where I was posted. When she came for the first time on February 28 on a 15-day visa, we applied for Long Term Visa in March itself and completed the necessary formalities including interview, he said, highlighting that this paved the way for the High Court of J&K and Ladakh to provide relief to them by staying his wifes deportation at the last moment on Wednesday. Ahmed said he returned to his duties at the end of his leave period and was asked to report to the battalion headquarters at Sunderbani on March 25 but on March 27, I was handed over a transfer order and posted with 41st Battalion at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) without providing 15 days mandatory joining period. I was given the order copy and relieved immediately, leaving me with no option but to join my duties at Bhopal where I joined on March 29. I faced the interview of the commanding officer and his deputy on reaching there and also completed the documentation process, clearly mentioning my marriage to a Pakistani woman, he said, adding he has even made the entry in his battalion data record book. The CRPF trooper said he will be moving the court in the next few days to challenge his dismissal. I am hopeful of getting justice from the court of law, he said.

Girl, 3, youngest to take Santhara fast unto death
BHOPAL: A three-year-old terminally ill child in Indore became the youngest to embrace death through the Jain practice of Santhara. She passed away on March 21 minutes after the ceremony ended. Santhara or Sallekhana is a voluntary practice of fast unto death, which is undertaken when the end is imminent. But since patient Viyana Jain was just three, she couldnt have taken the decision voluntarily. It was her parents Varsha and Piyush Jain, both techies, who took the call following advice from Jain guru Rajesh Muni Maharaj. Significantly, Santhara was declared illegal by the Rajasthan High Court in August 2015. The court made it punishable under Section 306 of the IPC (abetment of suicide). The order had triggered massive protests by the Jains, who argued that while suicide was a sin, Santhara was a religious practice for self-purification. A month later, the Supreme Court suspended the HC order. Viyana was diagnosed with brain tumour in December last year and underwent surgery in Mumbai in January. After surgery her condition improved, but a couple of months later, it started deteriorating following relapse of the brain tumour. We took her to our Jain guru on March 21. He told us her end was near and recommended Santhara, said Varsha over phone. Varsha claimed that the guru holds a PhD in Santhara and had helped 107 individuals undergo Santhara. We agreed with a heavy heart. Within 10 minutes after the Santhara ritual chanting of mantras, Viyana breathed her last, she recalled. I keep visiting orphanages. She loved feeding cows and pigeons, were continuing it. Its my dream to undertake a major tree plantation in her memory in future, Varsha said.

NHRC notices to MP govt, DGP over police 'inaction' in finding girl who went missing from Bhopal
NEW DELHI: The NHRC on Thursday said it has issued notices to the Madhya Pradesh government and the state's police chief over reports that even 18 days after a six-year-old girl went missing from an underbridge in Bhopal, police have o answers. Reportedly, this is not just one case of disappearance, as over 3,400 women and girls have gone missing in the state during the last three years, as per the data of the Madhya Pradesh police. Allegedly, the CCTV networks are patchy, rapid-response teams are missing in action, and there is no coordination between the units, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said in a statement. The rights panel said it has taken suo-motu cognisance of a media report that even after 18 days since the girl went missing from an underbridge in Bhopal's Koh-e-Fiza area, police have o answers. Reportedly, the missing girl's homeless mother with eight children suspects the involvement of one of the relatives in the disappearance of her daughter, but the police is not conducting a fair investigation, and no arrests have been made in the matter to date, the statement said. The commission observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights. Therefore, it has issued notices to the chief secretary and director general of police of Madhya Pradesh, seeking a detailed report in two weeks, the rights panel said. According to the media report, published on April 25, a drive under the name of Operation Muskan launched last year by the state police to rescue and rehabilitate the missing girls has not shown any results, the commission said.

CHANDIGARH/BHOPAL/JAIPUR/RAIPUR: The stalemate over visa cancellations post-Pahalgam attack ended on Tuesday, with 70 Pakistan national women possessing long-term visas and No Obligation to Return to India (NORI) certificates permitted to cross over into India at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Attari border. Initially, the Centre revoked all visas issued to Pakistan nationals visiting India. As a result, spouses of Indian citizens with Pakistani passports faced an emotional situation; those currently visiting or residing in India had to return to Pakistan, leaving their children behind if the latter were Indian citizens. Indian nationals currently visiting Pakistan could return to India but not with their children if the latter held Pakistan passports. However, the Centre revised the visa guidelines allowing those on Long-Term Visas to stay in the country. So, on Tuesday, Pakistani immigration authorities allowed women holding Pakistani passports and married to Indian nationals and having NORI certificates and long-term visas to cross over to India, sources said. In total, 240 people from Pakistan, including more than 70 NORI visa holders, entered India, and 140 people from India returned to Pakistan via the Attari border. Saba Kiran, a Pakistani national married in India, bids goodbye to her daughter as she is being deported to her country through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Attari-Wagah border, near Amritsar, Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Vignettes from Attari Family members waiting at the border post were relieved after the decision. Dr Vikram Udasi, from Jalgaon, Maharashtra, had been waiting at the Attari border since April 25 to receive his wife Priya, a Pakistani national, and child Ahan, who were in Pakistan visiting family. They were reunited after both crossed over. Finally, after the long wait, I have met my wife and child, and now we are returning to our home town. She has been on a Long-Term Visa for the past eight years, which is valid until 2026, he said. A Pakistan national, and his family members wait to cross over to their country Rishi Kumar from Kolhapur in Maharashtra, was equally happy. He was waiting for his wife and children at the Attari border for the last few days. His wife hails from Balochistan, a Pakistani national, while her two children are Indians. The three went to Pakistan to visit family. She was ultimately allowed to return to India along with her children. Edge of uncertainty In Madhya Pradesh, the fate of nine children with Pakistani passports and short-term visas hangs in balance. The state government has sought the Centres advice on nine children born to Pakistani fathers and Indian mothers, who are now with their mothers. The kids are between one year and 11 years of age. Four, aged between four and seven, are with their mother in their maternal home Indore, three others in Jabalpur and two in Bhopal. Komal, right, from Rajasthan gets emotional as her brother and sister-in-law leave for their home country Pakistan through Attari-Wagah border check-post following curbs imposed in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack, near Amritsar, Tuesday, April 29, 2025. In the Jabalpur case, the mother brought the children on short-term visas last month because of financial difficulties, as their father was unemployed in Pakistan. There were 14 Pakistani nationals in MP, including the nine children with their Indian mothers in Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur. Also, a young man (from the Sindhi community) was on a short-term visa in Bhopal. He had applied for a long-term visa just a few hours before the Centre ordered the revoking of 14 categories of visas and asked those Pakistani nationals to leave India by April 27. Weve sought the central governments advice and guidance in all these cases of the 10 Pakistani nationals, including the nine kids, a senior state police officer told this newspaper on Tuesday. Pakistani woman gets emotional while leaving for Pakistan as her husband is barred. Three of the 14 Pakistani nationals who had to leave the country by April 27 have already left and crossed the international border into Pakistan. In the case of a six-year-old kid, a Pakistani national, who had come with the Indian mother to the maternal grandparents place in Indore, the matter of both going to Pakistan is reportedly being looked into by the Foreigners Registration Office in Delhi. The Centre revoked the 14 categories of visas on April 25 in the wake of the ghastly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, and Pakistan nationals who were in India on such visas were asked to leave the country by April 27. In a communication to all state governments, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), however, added that the order would not apply to Long-Term Visa (LTV) holders besides diplomatic and official visa holders Pakistani nationals. Who stay, who dont In Rajasthan, security agencies have deported 129 of the 400 Pakistani nationals residing in the state. According to official sources, 109 individuals were sent back by April 27, and an additional 20 were deported on April 28. However, several others currently remain untraceable, and efforts are underway to locate them. In a parallel development, after the Centre said in an updated directive that Long-Term Visa holders are not required to leave the country, 362 Pakistan nationals in Rajasthan have had their LTVs approved and formally registered in the last three days. Officials clarified that applicants whose LTV cases are pending or under consideration are exempt from deportation. Radha, right, a Pakistani national who was living in Jammu & Kashmir, with her relative as she is being deported to her country through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Attari-Wagah border, near Amritsar, Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Notably, Pakistani Muslim women married to Indian citizens and residing in India on LTVs are also not being asked to return to Pakistan under the revised rules. A significant number of Pakistani refugees, especially Hindus, have settled in the border districts of Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, Barmer, and particularly Jodhpur. In many cases, families have been split due to cross-border marriageswhere one half of the family is in India while the other remains in Pakistan or faces pressure to return. In at least three to four reported instances, mothers hold passports from one country, while their children have obtained citizenship in another, typically due to birth circumstances. These families now face the emotional and logistical burden of separation until new regulations are introduced or the situation stabilises. Fate of a few In Chhattisgarh, the Raigarh police have arrested two Pakistani citizens who acquired Indian voter identity cards through fraudulent means and by providing fake information. The district police said Iftekhar Sheikh (29) and Armish Sheikh (25) are brother and sister. The duo stayed in the Kodatarai area of Raigarh district, about 230 km east of Raipur. Additional SP (Raigarh) told this newspaper, Their father, Yakub Sheikh, is Indian and stays in Raigarh. He married a Pakistani woman who died during the Covid-19 pandemic. The two children were born in Pakistan but were raised and schooled in India. appu Kumar, a Pakistani national who was living in Jammu & Kashmir, shows a copy of his identification card as he is being deported to his country through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Attari-Wagah border, near Amritsar, Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Both are here on valid Long-Term Visas, and, at present, they cant be deported. But they furnished wrong information and procured Indian voter ID cards, following which a case has been registered against them. The police had launched a drive to ensure no Pakistan nationals were found staying illegally in the district, and both the Pakistan nationals were traced during the intensive verification campaign, said Jutemill police station in-charge Prashant Rao. Uncertainty surrounds fate of nine Pakistani children in Madhya Pradesh as Centre revokes visas
BHOPAL: The fate of nine children born to Pakistani fathers and Indian mothers in Madhya Pradesh hangs in the balance after the Centre revoked 14 visa categories for Pakistani nationals. The state government has sought central guidance on the children's status, as they currently reside with their mothers across three cities in the state. The nine children, aged between one and 11 years, are currently living with their Indian mothers across Madhya Pradesh. Four children aged 4 to 7 are in Indore, three aged 1 to 11 are in Jabalpur, and two aged 5 and 6 are in Bhopal. In Jabalpur, three kids, the eldest of them being an 11-year-old girl and the youngest being her one-year-old brother, had to come to India with their mother on short term visas last month, as their father was jobless in Pakistan for a long time, forcing mother to come to her parents place. In total there were 14 Pakistani nationals in MP, including the nine children with their Indian mothers in Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur. Also, a young man (who is from the Sindhi community) too was on short term visa in Bhopal and had applied for a long-term visa, just a few hours before the central government ordered the revocation of 14 categories of visas and asked those Pakistani nationals to leave India by April 27. Weve sought the central governments advice and guidance in all these cases of the 10 Pakistani nationals, including the nine kids, a senior state police officer told TNIE on Tuesday. Out of the 14 Pakistani nationals who had to leave the country by April 27, three have already left and crossed the international border into Pakistan. In one case of a six-year-old kid who had come with their Indian mother to maternal grandparents' place in Indore, the Indian national mother has left with the Pakistani national kid and the matter of both going to Pakistan is reportedly being looked into by the Foreigners Registration Office in Delhi. The 14 categories of visas were revoked by the central government on April 25 in the wake of the ghastly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and those Pakistani nationals who were in India on such visas were asked to leave the country by April 27. In a communication to all the state governments, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), however, had added that the order will not apply to Long Term Visa (LTV) holders, besides diplomatic and official visa holder Pakistani nationals.

Senior advocate and co-chairman of the State Bar Council, Rajesh Vyas told reporters that lawyers, especially younger ones, are enraged with this incident and were protesting in a disciplined manner on the issue. This struggle will continue and if such incidents recur, then they (those involved in it) will be hit, he added. A case was registered against three persons under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and MP Freedom of Religion Act, the official said. BHOPAL: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday conducted raids at 11 locations across three districts of Madhya PradeshBhopal, Indore, and Mandsaurin connection with a 49.42 crore fraud case. The searches, carried out at the premises of liquor contractors and others, are part of a money laundering probe initiated by the ED based on an existing FIR filed by the state police's Anti-Corruption Wing. The FIR names liquor contractors and others for allegedly causing a loss of over 49.42 crore to the government exchequer through forgery and manipulation of treasury challans. It also pertains to the unlawful acquisition of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for liquor licenses during the financial years 201516 to 201718. Major rape-blackmailing racket targeting college girls busted in Bhopal
BHOPAL: An alleged rape and blackmailing racket has been busted in Bhopal. Two youths of a particular community hailing from West Bengal have been arrested in connection with the issue. The two arrested accused have been identified as Farhan and Saad, while others are under investigation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra to further probe the case, following three FIRs recently filed by victims. The three FIRs have been registered under BNS sections pertaining to rape and blackmailing, provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012 and also provisions of the state's anti-religious conversion law, the MP Freedom of Religion Act 2021. Its a very sensitive matter. Three FIRs have been lodged so far and two key accused have been arrested. POCSO Act provisions have been added in the FIRs, as the complainant girls were aged below 18 when the alleged crime happened. The provisions of MP Freedom of Religion Act top have been added as the statements of the alleged rape survivor girls necessitated their inclusion in the FIRs. The FIRs at multiple police stations of Bhopal are now being probed under the supervision of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), Bhopal police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra told TNIE on Friday. All the victims and most of the accused are students of a prominent private college in Bhopal. The entire matter came to the fore recently when one of the girls, aged 19, years reported to Bag Sewania police station about her college mate Farhan having first lured her into love trap using a different identity, followed by her rape two years back. He recorded the intimate videos and blackmailed her to introduce her other friends (belonging to the girl's community) to his friends, who subsequently raped those girls. It was the bunch of intimate videos of the other girls (teenage friends of the first complainant girl) found in Farhan's mobile phone, which led the police to the other girls, two of whom subsequently reported the crime. Another girl is currently being counselled, as she is excessively petrified and not ready to report the crime, fearing social stigma. According to sources privy to the ongoing probe, the videos in the seized cell-phone suggest a strong possibility of some other girls from the same community having been targeted by the rape-blackmailing racket of youths from the other community, mostly belonging to West Bengal. Some of the videos also reportedly show the accused youths using abusive language and references, which are hurtful to the religious sentiments of the victim girls.

BHOPAL: Two Muslim men have been arrested by police in Damoh district of BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly sharing offensive social media posts related to the Pahalgam terror attack . Damoh district police superintendent Shrutkirti Somvanshi told TNIE on Wednesday that two men were arrested from different places: Wasim Khan from Bhopal on Tuesday night, and Tanveer Qureshi from Damoh on Wednesday morning. Both men are aged between 35 and 40 years. While Tanveer is unemployed, police are probing the possibility of Wasim working for a Bhopal-headquartered regional news channel. The two men have been accused of sharing offensive social media posts which drew parallels between the killing of Indian tourists in Pahalgam and the past lynching of Muslims for not raising Hindu religious slogans. The posts came on the Damoh district police radar following specific inputs and continued social media monitoring by the cyber cell cops. Subsequently a FIR was registered against the two men by police on behalf of the state government at the Damoh Kotwali police station on Tuesday late night, under BNS Sections 353(2), 196, 299 and 3(5) which deal with statements/false information which could incite enmity between religious groups, promoting enmity between different groups, outraging religious feelings and crime with a common intent, the SP-Damoh added. Indore resident Samuel Nathaniel was shot dead after he failed to recite Kalma, says family
BHOPAL: A Christian family from Indore lost its head, 50-year-old Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) branch manager Sushil Nathaniel, in the terror attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday. Hailing from Jobat in western MPs Alirajpur district, Sushil was currently posted as the LIC branch manager in native Alirajpur district, his family comprising a teacher wife, Bank of Baroda-Surat employee daughter Akanksha, and student son Austin resided in Abhinandan Nagar area of Indore. Sushil, a native of Jobat in Alirajpur district, MP, was posted as the LIC branch manager in Alirajpur. His family including his wife (a teacher), daughter Akanksha (a bank employee in Surat), and son Austin (a student), lived in Indore's Abhinandan Nagar. Since Article 370 was abrogated in 2019, Sushil always wanted to be in Kashmir to experience with family the heaven on earth. He finally managed to be there with family, but hell never return alive now. His son Goldie told us over phone that the terrorists asked Sushil to kneel down and recite the Kalma, but he wasn't able to as he was a Christian, he saw his father being shot dead by the terrorists, Sushils cousin Sanjay Kumrawat, who also lives in Indore said on Wednesday. As per Nathaniel's familys sources in Indore, Sushil shielded his wife by hiding her behind a tree when the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. His 22-year-old daughter, Akanksha, however, sustained wounds in the leg, but is out of danger, following medical treatment. The middle-aged Sushil had reached Kashmir with wife and two children just two days before the Pahalgam attack. Since he was posted in Alirajpur district and Im posted in Indore, we were connected more over the phone. I last talked to him over the phone a month back and he was very excited about going to Kashmir. He wanted to be there since the abrogation of Article 370. The terrorists have shot dead those who werent from their faith. We stand firmly behind our government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demand the strongest possible action against the terrorists and their handlers, Kumrawat demanded. Back in Sushils parental home town, Jobat in Alirajpur district (165 km from Indore), the LIC branch managers youngest aunt Susan was seething in anger. He was posted in Alirajpur district as LIC branch manager for three years, I last talked to him over phone on April 20 when offered me Easter greetings, just a few hours before he left with family on vacation to Kashmir. For how long will we continue to lose our kids to the bullets of terrorists? I appeal to PM Modi that the way they (terrorists) shot our sons publicly, the same way the concerned terrorists should be shot dead on the spot, instead of nabbing them alive and waiting for the court verdict. Why should we show mercy, when they dont believe in it with us? According to the Indore district collector Ashish Singh, the body of Sushil Nathaniel will be flown to Indore in the afternoon. The funeral will take place in Indore only.
