Bhopal Diary | Is Narottam Mishra poised for a larger role?
IAS officers post on religion sparks row Niyaz Khan, a bureaucrat from Madhya Pradesh known for his candid views, is back in the spotlight due to his recent social media posts. The 2015 batch IAS officer shared on X, Islam is the religion of Arabia, here (in India) everyone was Hindu. People were converted from Hindus to Muslim, so even if the religions are different, the blood is the same. All have been part of the same culture, Muslims who consider people of Arabia as ideal, need to reconsider. First of all, they should consider Hindus as their brothers and then the Arabs. Khan has garnered attention for his reformative perspectives on Islam and Muslims. Is Narottam Mishra poised for a larger role? Lately, the political landscape in Bhopal has been abuzz with speculation regarding Narottam Mishra, a former minister and influential Brahmin politician, and the possibility of him taking on a significant responsibility within the ruling BJP. Prominent party leaders, including state BJP in-charge Mahendra Singh, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the states senior-most cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, have been seen visiting Mishras residence. The party is expected to announce the new state BJP chief soon, and Mishra is considered one of the leading candidates for the position. LoP seeks time from PM for Cong MLAs The LoP in Madhya Pradesh, Umang Singhar, has written to the PMO requesting a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to Bhopal this month. A delegation of Congress MLAs, led by Singhar, wants to discuss several important issues, including the Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit. Singhars letter comes just a day after he made corruption allegations against Govind Singh Rajput, a minister loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia. During his visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation for a cancer hospital in Bageshwar Dham (Chhatarpur) on February 23 and to inaugurate GIS in Bhopal on February 24. MP declares Vicky Kaushal-starrer 'Chhaava' tax-free on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti
BHOPAL: Vicky Kaushal-starrer Hindi movie Chhaava has been declared tax free in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. The announcement was made by the states chief minister Dr Mohan Yadav, while addressing a gathering after unveiling the state archery academy in Jabalpur on Wednesday evening. The announcement assumed particular significance as it coincided with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. On the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharajs birth anniversary, Im declaring that Hindi film Chhaava (based on his son Sambhaji Maharajs life) tax free in MP. The movie is being declared tax free to enable one and all to watch the movie, which depicts various aspects of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharajs son Sambhaji Maharajs life, Yadav said. The development happened three months after the same MP CM had in November 2025,declared the Vikrant Massey and Raashii Khanna-starrer movie, The Sabarmati Report tax free in the state. Based on the life of Sambhaji, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire, the movie, Chhaava (which also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna) is the third movie in 11 months to have been declared tax-free by the MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav. Before declaring The Sabarmati Report tax-free in November 2024, the same CM had in March 2024 declared Yami Gautam-starrer Article 370 as tax free in the central Indian state. Article 370 focused on the rise of terrorism in Kashmir and the governments fight against it, including the abrogation of Article 370 by the Narendra Modi government on August 5, 2019, ending the special status given toJammu and Kashmir. The government, however, didnt give a similar tax benefit to Pankaj Tripathi-starrer movie, Mai Atal Hoon , which was a biopic on former PM and BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Importantly Vajpayees Indore-based niece Mala Tiwari had reportedlywritten to PM Narendra Modi in January, to make themovie Mai Atal Hoon taxfreefor infusing the spirit of nationalism among youths. Before it, in May 2023, then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had declared Hindi movie, The Kerala Story tax-free and also watched the movie with the films cast and crew in Bhopal. In June 2022, Chouhan had declared Akshay Kumar-starrer Samrat Prithviraj as tax-free, just two months after granting similar benefits to Anupam Kher-starrer, The Kashmir Files . But its not just BJP regimes which have declared movies tax-free in MP, as even the 15-months-old Kamal Nath-led Congress regime, had declared Deepika Padukone-starrer Chhapaak (based on the real-life struggle of an acid attack survivor) and Taapsee Pannu-starrer Thappad (which dealt with issue of domestic violence) tax free in the state.
After death penalty being cancelled in POCSO case, man rapes 11-year-old girl in MP
BHOPAL: A serial rapist acquitted by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2018 four years after receiving a death sentence for abducting and raping an eight-year-old school girl has now been accused of raping an 11-year-old hearing- and speech-impaired, mentally challenged girl in Rajgarh district on the intervening night of February 1 and 2. The orphan girl, who was severely malnourished as well, died on February 7 at a government hospital in Bhopal after battling for life for four days. A fortnight after the ghastly incident of the rape came to light, multiple police teams probing the case across the country finally managed to track and arrest the accused. He was identified as 41-year-old Ramesh Singh, a native of western MPs Shajapur district, and he was habitual of abducting and raping minors. On the night of February 1, the 11-year-old disabled girl was abducted from her hut in Narsinghgarh town of Rajgarh district and found the next day in the adjoining bushes bleeding from the private parts. She was admitted at the government hospital in Bhopal, but despite all efforts by doctors, the severely malnourished girl breathed last on February 7 night. Taking the case on top priority, we formed 16 dedicated teams and zeroed upon around 382 people, based on grabs retrieved from 136 CCTV cameras installed at 46 locations. Finally, the probe focused on 15-20 suspects and at last the actual accused, 41-year-old Ramesh Singh, Rajgarh district police superintendent Aditya Mishra told TNIE on Wednesday. The search for Singh took the Rajgarh police teams from MP to Rajasthan and UP. After committing the crime in Narsinghgarh (Rajgarh district), Singh fled to Prayagraj via Rajasthan and stayed at the ongoing Mahakumbh for a few days. He changed his clothes thereby stealing the clothes of those bathing at one of the ghats. His location was tracked when he borrowed the cell phone of a pilgrim from Karnataka to call his wife in MP. Subsequently, multiple teams zeroed in upon 18-20 railway stations between Prayagraj and Shajapur in MP. Finally, the police managed to track and nab him from the Rajasthan border in Rajgarh district only on February 18, a senior MP police officer said. According to cops, while interrogating Singh, he has no repentance for the crime he committed. He raped her multiple times and tried to choke her to death. With the girl not resisting the bid, he thought she was dead and left her back. He wanted to kill her, as in 2014, leaving the eight-year-old girl alive after rape, had led to his arrest and subsequent death penalty. As per the Rajgarh district SP Aditya Mishra, Realising the seriousness of the case, a special investigation team (SIT) had already been constituted in the matter, whose members are grilling him (Singh) one by one. Taking cognizance of his three previous crimes 2003, 2014 and 2025, his modus operandi seems to be targeting minors. So well create his DNA profile and get it generated at the forensic science lab (FSL). Well then get that profile cross-matched with evidence in any other unsolved rape cases anywhere else in the country, to find out whether he has committed similar crimes elsewhere or not. Earlier cases Singh hails from a village in the Avantipura Badodia area of Shajpur district, Ramesh was arrested in 2003 for raping a five-year-old girl in Mubarikpur village. A local court sentenced him to ten years in prison after holding him guilty for the crime. After serving the ten-year jail term, he was released in 2013. Just a year later, he abducted an eight-year-old girl from outside a school in Ashtha area of central MPs Sehore district and raped her. A year later in 2014, an additional district judge (ADJ) court, while convicting him for the heinous crime, awarded the death penalty. Four years later, the Madhya Pradesh High Court, overturned the lower courts verdict on technical grounds, stating that as the alleged rape survivors father was present during the identification parade, it could have influenced the results. He subsequently walked free in the 2014 rape case. The state governments plea against the 2018 MP High Court judgement (overturning the death penalty pronounced by the lower court) reportedly remains pending before the Supreme Court till date, sources in Rajgarh district police of MP told TNIE on Wednesday. Ongoing police investigations which involve the accuseds prolonged grilling and also statements from his family of two daughters (aged 24 and 16) and a son (aged around ten years) have revealed the strong possibility of Singh having even raped his youngest daughter multiple times, when she was aged around 12-13 years. Not just that but Singh, who is a habitual drug addict, often came home dressed as a woman. Some years back, his mother too was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside their house in their native village of Shajapur district, when Singhs father was living away from his sons family and is terrified even at the slightest mention of his son.
Two bomb threats in one day trigger evacuations, extensive searches in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: Two bomb threats in one day, kept the Madhya Pradesh police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on their toes in the central Indian state on Tuesday. While the Mumbai-bound Ballia-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Kamayani Express was checked for around two hours by the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) personnel of the state police at Bina railway station of Sagar district, around 250 km away in Jabalpur district, another bomb scare kept the BDDS team of local police busy at a prominent English medium private school in Ranjhi area. In Bina town of Sagar district of Bundelkhand region, the long-distance Kamayani Express train, which was already running late by around 4-5 hours was stopped and searched thoroughly for the presence of any explosive, following a call alerting about a bomb on the train, which finally turned out to be a hoax call. According to a senior police officer in Sagar district, the search which started at around noon, continued for over two hours, after which the train left for its further journey. Already the stations are currently chock-a-block with heavy crowds going towards and returning from the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. It cannot be ruled out that the call might have been made possibly with the intention to spread panic, which may have led to some untoward incident in the crowd on the train and at the station. Were conducting detailed and in-depth investigations in the matter, a senior police officer in Sagar district told TNIE. Around 250 km away in Jabalpur district, students were evacuated from a prominent English medium private school in the Ranjhi area, following an e-mail to the school, alerting them about a bomb in the school campus. The local polices BDDS team was pressed into action, but after extensive search, nothing incriminating was found to suggest the presence of any explosive/bomb in the sprawling school campus. Ongoing investigations suggest that the mail informing about a bomb in the school was sent from Southern India and a phone number mentioned in that mail too pertained to someone based around Karnataka. Were trying to get deeper into the case and track the real culprit and the actual intention behind the mail, Jabalpur district police superintendent Sampat Upadhyaya told TNIE. Importantly, just a few days back, similar mails were received in MPs most populated city Indore, about the presence of bombs in the campuses of two prominent private schools, after which students of both schools were evacuated. Even in Indore, the mails informing about the presence of bombs were made from Southern India, just like the mail sent to the private school in Jabalpur district on Tuesday.

SC pulls up UP government for razing part of mosque
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to concerned authorities of the Uttar Pradesh government in a contempt petition against the demolition of a part of the Madni mosque in Kushinagar. The apex court ordered no demolition of the structure until further orders. The two-judge bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih asked the authorities to respond within a fortnight why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them for their alleged violation. The bench said, It is submitted (by the petitioner) that the structure in question was constructed on private land owned by the petitioners. The construction thereon was also with the due sanction of municipal authorities as per sanction order of 1999 It was submitted that the SDM enquired about the matter based on a complaint. The SDM carried out an inspection and also issued a press note on December 22, 2024. As per the inspection, the construction was in accordance with the sanction plan. However, the petitioners claimed that authorities demolished a section of the frontal area of the Madni Masjid on February 2. They contended that the action violated the Supreme Court order of November 13 last year restraining demolitions actions across the country without prior notice and opportunity of hearing. During the hearing, the apex court also noted that the petitioners had removed a section of the construction found to be non-sanctioned. It is submitted that in these premises, the demolition which was made is in egregious contempt of the directions issued by this court, the apex court said. According to the UP government, a portion of Madni Mosque in Uttar Pradeshs Kushinagar district, which was allegedly built on encroached land, was demolished by bulldozers earlier this month. It may be recalled that in its November 13 verdict, the Supreme Court had passed a slew of directions and questioned the executive on bulldozer justice and held that the state cannot overstep its constitutional remit. The Executive cannot become a judge, decide that an accused is guilty and punish him by demolishing his properties as such an act would be transgressing its limits, the Supreme Court had said. The apex court also observed it will be totally unconstitutional for more than one reason if a citizens house is demolished just because he is an accused or a convict, that too without following the due process as prescribed by law. The apex court also laid specific guidelines to ensure a strict code for bulldozer demolition. It held that in case of violations, the officers concerned would be responsible for restitution of property at personal cost and damages. Also in top court Carbide waste burial under SC scanner The disposal of hazardous waste of 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy near Indore came under scanner on Monday. Illegal coal mining accident in Madhya Pradeshs Shahdol district leaves five daughters orphaned
BHOPAL: Illegal coal mining in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district claimed the lives of a couple, leaving their five daughters, aged between 2 and 18 years, to fend for themselves. The incident happened near the banks of Son river, around 2 km from the Dhangavan village under Burhar police station area on Sunday late evening, when five labourers were digging soil in search of coal. The mud mound created by the digging suddenly collapsed on the five labourers. While three of them escaped unhurt, two others identified as Omkar Yadav (40) and his wife Parvati Yadav (36) were buried alive. The two bodies were extricated after a couple of hours with the help of JCB machines near the accident site. While confirming the incident, the Shahdol district police superintendent Ramji Shrivastava said, Investigations are underway to ascertain who were those at whose behest the illegal mining was being carried in search of coal close to the Son river. Based on the investigation findings, a case will be registered against those found behind the illegal mining for coal. The death of the couple has made their five daughters, aged between two years and 18 years, parentless. Just six months back, the couple had lost their lone son Ravindra Yadav (7) due to snake bite. According to informed sources, coal is abundantly available in the area (at some places, digging of soil up to even 10-12 fts, easily leads to coal). The coal mining mafia is active in around 100 square kms close to the Son river in Burhar, Amlai, Jaitpur and Dhanpuri in Shahdol district and Keshwahi area of adjoining Anuppur district of eastern MP. As the soil is crumbly, the labourers and villagers find it easy to dig. The coal mafia then engages villagers as labourers for digging coal in villages close to the river Son in Shahdol as well as the neighbouring Anuppur district. Digging of the soil in areas close to river Son often leads to coal at just 10-12 fts which fetches easy money of Rs 200 per bag of coal in the market, which is why such digging is prevalent, Shrivastava said. Along with the district collector Dr Kedar Singh, I visited the spot of the mishap on Sunday evening. It has been decided to form a task force to act against the illegal mining prevalent in the large area close to the river Son, he added. Targeting the state government on the incident, the state Congress president Jitu Patwari, posted on social media platform X, A couple died due to the collapse of an illegal coal mine in Burhar area Shahdol. Red alert sounded as poachers on prowl in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: An organised gang of tiger poachers, which also includes women and children, could have poached 10-11 tigers in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh over the last three months. It is believed that the arrest of these gang members last month in Maharashtra prompted the central governments Wildlife Crime Control Bureau to issue a nationwide alert. An ongoing probe by multiple agencies into tiger poaching following the arrests of key operatives of the gang comprising the tribal Pardhi community in Chandrapur (Maharashtra) in January, has revealed a strong possibility of 10-11 tigers having been poached by the gang in the three adjoining states over the last three-four months, a member of the probe team said. While the notorious tiger poacher Ajit Rajgond alias Ajit Pardhi, his mother, wife and key associates were arrested in Chandrapur on January 25, his equally notorious brother Keru and aides escaped. Just a fortnight after the arrests of Ajit and key associates, four more members of his gang were nabbed in a joint operation by the state Tiger Strike Force of the MP forest department and the special task force (STF) of MP police, from their camp in Dindori district of their native eastern MP. We arrested four persons from the spot, including two close relatives of Ajit (both aged between 16 and 18 years) and two other male gang members, one aged 19 and the other being 22 years old. Were searching for other members of the large gang, particularly his brothers and sons, who are on the run, a probe team member said. The gang has been involved in multiple criminal activities, including poaching of tigers and other wild animals (whose remains fetch big money in international markets), narcotics smuggling, looting and killings of humans, as well as selling fake animal parts (like colouring goat skin as tiger skin). The members keep moving from one state to another, including parts of their native MP, adjoining Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, UP, Punjab, Bihar, West Bengal and the North East. They have key contacts in the North East, especially Nagaland, which are helping the remains of animals (including tigers) poached by them, to smuggle abroad. Not just the North East, but the two teenagers who are currently at the juvenile centre (following the arrests in Dindori) were even talking over the phone to contacts based as far as the US, which speaks volumes about the extent of their criminal activities, an official said. The gang has been poaching tigers in two ways through Lotus-shaped metallic booby/leg traps and the fanda (noose) made from clutch wires, besides crude bombs. You name any animal, and theyll tell you yes, theyve poached it. One of their other money spinners is narcotics trade, the official added.

Newborn girl left in dustbin with throat slit saved after critical surgeries in Bhopal
BHOPAL: A newborn girl, abandoned in a dustbin with her throat allegedly slit by her maternal grandmother in Madhya Pradeshs Rajgarh district last month, has been saved through timely twin surgeries and round-the-clock medical care at a government hospital in Bhopal. The infant, just a day old when she was found, suffered severe injuries to her neck muscles. A team of paediatric surgeons at Kamla Nehru Hospital in Bhopal performed two life-saving surgeries last month, followed by continuous medical supervision. The hospital staff, moved by her resilience, named her Pihu. Dr Dhirendra Shrivastava, head of the paediatrics department at Kamla Nehru Hospital, said, Though weve successfully treated abandoned newborns in the past, this case was particularly critical. The wounds werent superficial but very deep, causing damage to the neck muscles. Her cuts were sutured, and blood vessels repaired through two surgeries. Our entire team monitored her progress round the clock for a month. He added, With no family coming forward to claim her, the doctors and nurses treated her as one of their own. They took complete responsibility for her treatment and well-being. How long could they address her as an unnamed child? So, they unanimously decided to name her Pihu. After her full recovery, Pihu has been handed over to a childrens shelter home in Rajgarh district, where efforts will be made to ensure her safety and a better future. Bhagwat Prasad Soni, head of the child care home associated with the state women and child development department, recalled the harrowing night of January 11. Our team, along with the local police, rushed the newbornprofusely bleeding from the neckto the hospital in Bhopal, about 100 km away. She is just a month old but a real fighter. The cut wounds in her throat and some injuries on her abdomen were life-threatening. Our doctors regularly visited the hospital to check on her. Now, with her wounds nearly healed, she has joined three other abandoned children, aged between three and five years, in our care, Soni said. Akhilesh Verma, in charge of Pachore police station in Rajgarh district, recounted, The newborn was found abandoned on January 11 with her throat slit. This is a miraculous escape, given the severity of her wounds. Primary investigations revealed that her maternal grandmother slit her throat with her mothers agreement. Both were arrested on January 12 and are currently out on bail. We are relieved that the girl is now out of danger. Sources close to the police investigation revealed that the infant was the result of an illicit relationship between her 25-year-old mother and a man from Uttar Pradesh. We are searching for that man, as he has also been named as an accused in the case, the source said. Madhya Pradesh has recorded the highest number of abandoned babies in the country over the past four years. According to the National Crime Records Bureaus (NCRB) Crime in India report for 2022, the state reported 175 cases of newborns being abandoned or thrown away that year21 per cent of the 831 such cases recorded across India.

All AP districts put on high alert to curb spread of Avian Influenza
VIJAYAWADA: The bird flu outbreak has killed more than 11,000 chickens at Anumollanka village in NTR district, prompting the State authorities to issue a high alert across all districts. The Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has already led to the death of thousands of chickens, with neighbouring Telangana banning poultry imports from Andhra Pradesh. Officials are enforcing strict containment measures, including culling infected birds, inspecting vehicles at checkpoints, and urging poultry farmers to report unusual chicken deaths. Animal Husbandry officials have set up monitoring teams at border check posts, such as Garikapadu, to prevent the transportation of potentially infected chickens and eggs. Special teams comprising police and veterinary officials are conducting inspections to curb the spread of virus. Authorities have also mandated the immediate disposal of infected poultry birds and eggs in affected areas. According to Animal Husbandry Director Dr Damodar Naidu, approximately 15,000 chicks have been culled so far. We have formed special teams to identify and contain the virus. Strict biosecurity measures are being enforced to protect the poultry population, he said. Poultry farm owners have been directed to follow sanitisation protocols using potassium permanganate, potassium hypochlorite, and sodium hydroxide to prevent further spread. Officials have issued a high alert in villages classified as red zones. A total of 721 rapid response teams have been deployed to monitor and prevent the virus spread. Special attention is being given to Krishna and Godavari districts, which house a high number of poultry farms and aqua ponds. A similar situation has emerged in Srikakulam district, where Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu instructed officials to raise public awareness and take urgent preventive measures. The outbreak of bird flu was confirmed in poultry farms at Velpur in West Godavari, and at Kanuru in East Godavari, after samples tested at the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal detected virus. Containment measures include establishing red zones within 1 km radius of affected farms, where all poultry birds, eggs, and feed are being destroyed as per guidelines. The government has set up 40 check posts along the borders of Telangana and Tamil Nadu to prevent the spread of bird flu. The outbreak has had a significant economic impact, particularly on hoteliers and meat vendors, as fear of infection has drastically reduced chicken sales. Consequently, mutton prices have surged, reaching Rs 950 to Rs 1,000 per kg. Demand for mutton has increased over the last two days as people avoid chicken due to the virus scare, said Karimullah, a meat shop owner in Rajahmundry. Authorities continue to urge poultry farmers and public to remain vigilant and report any unusual poultry deaths to veterinary hospitals immediately.

Protesters perform 'corpse pose' to oppose disposal of Union Carbide waste in MP town
DHAR: A group of people on Wednesday performed 'Shavasana' (corpse pose) to protest against the proposed disposal of Union Carbide waste, connected to the Bhopal gas tragedy, in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district. Protests have been going on in the district, where 337 metric tonnes of waste have been brought from Bhopal for incineration at the industrial town of Pithampur. Twelve persons, including members of Pithampur Bachao Samiti, Pithampur Raksha Samiti and yoga exponent Pradeep Dubey, performed Shavasana at the bus stand around noon as part of their demonstration. I have been associated with yoga for a long time. We realised Shavasana was the best way to express our feelings peacefully, Dubey told reporters. He said the authorities should take the matter seriously and not be in haste to dispose of the Union Carbide waste. Because of this (waste disposal plan), everyone is fearful today. Therefore, to demonstrate the last limit of fear, we performed Shavasana. President Pithampur Bachao Samiti Dr Hemant Hirole said they have been holding a public dialogue since 12 containers carrying the waste reached Pithampur last month. But we have not received answers to our technical questions, he claimed. Wednesday's protest through the yogic pose of Shavana was a message to the people of Pithampur that the matter should be presented before the court, he said. In January, protests rocked Pithampur, around 50 km from Dhar district headquarters, after the waste was brought to a private facility in the industrial town for incineration. Those objecting to the move claim it would harm the locals' health and the environment. Meanwhile, the local administration has launched an intense awareness campaign to allay the misconceptions about waste disposal. According to the state government, the waste comprises soil, reactor residues, Sevin (pesticide) residues, naphthol residues and semi-processed residues. The MP Pollution Control Board has said scientific evidence suggests the chemical effects of Sevin and naphthol in the waste have now become nought.

BHOPAL: With the huge rush of devotees bound for the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj causing massive and long traffic jams in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, CM Mohan Yadav has urged pilgrims to avoid travelling towards Prayagraj for the next couple of days. There is traffic pressure in areas of the state adjoining Prayagraj, especially in Rewanchal (places surrounding Rewa district) region, as people have travelled from other states. I am requesting everyone not to move ahead on this road for the next couple of days, Yadav urged the pilgrims travelling through Madhya Pradesh to Mahakumbh on Monday. The condition of traffic on highways connecting southern and western parts of the country with Prayagraj (UP), has worsened in Madhya Pradesh over the last 48 hours. Heavy traffic jams spanning up to 50-100 km have been reported in parts of MP, particularly the Rewa district of MPs Vindhya region, which borders Prayagraj. Not just the main Chak Ghat highway (which connects Rewa with Prayagraj), but also the Shankargarh area of Prayagraj situated on the other border with Rewa district that reported traffic jams on February 9. Though the traffic jam has eased a bit since Monday evening, with another big bathing festival scheduled on Magh Purnima (Wednesday), the condition is bound to worsen in the next two days again, a police officer in Rewa district told TNIE . Stuck on the border of Rewa and Prayagraj districts for long time due to the massive traffic jam, Satna (MP) based businessman Sonu Singh said, In normal days we would have taken a maximum of five hours to reach Prayagraj from Satna district, but owing to the traffic jam, we reached Prayagraj in 15 hours. Dr Amitabh Kumar, a doctor who accompanied his brothers family from Bhopal to Prayagraj had to park his vehicle outside Shankargarh railway station of Prayagraj due to the traffic jam and take Kumbh Mela special train to Naini (Prayagraj), which took 3.5 hours to reach Naini compared to the normal running town of maximum one hour taken by other trains. The traffic jams havent just been caused in Rewa district, but also in some other districts, lying on MPs route to Prayagraj, including Jabalpur, Seoni, Katni, Maihar and Satna. In Katni district, visuals of police sub-inspector Rahul Pandey, announced a problematic traffic situation over a public announcement system in Rewa district, appealed Mahakumbh-bound pilgrims to rethink and postpone their visit. Keeping in mind the traffic jams 300 km away, I appeal to all those pilgrims on their way to Prayagraj in various vehicles to rethink their travel plan and postpone their visit for some days. Please enjoy your stay in tourist places elsewhere in MP and then re-plan your visit to Prayagraj some days later, Pandey was seen appealing in a viral video.

MP CM Urges Pilgrims to Avoid Travel For Some Days to Prayagraj Due to Heavy Traffic
BHOPAL : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav requested pilgrims heading to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh to wait a few days more so that the current situation will improve. This comes after massive traffic jams in several districts of the state. Over the past few days, roads in Jabalpur, Seoni, Katni, Maihar, Satna, and Rewa have been packed with vehicles carrying devotees to the Maha Kumbh. Speaking to the media on Monday, February 10, 2025, Yadav said, There is a lot of traffic pressure near Prayagraj, especially in areas around Rewa. Many people are coming from different states. I request everyone to delay their journey for a couple of days. He said that due to overcrowding, managing the Maha Kumbh has become challenging. The Madhya Pradesh government is in constant touch with authorities in Prayagraj to handle the situation. We are lucky to have so many pilgrims traveling for the Maha Kumbh, but their safety is our top priority, Yadav added. He assured that food, water, and other essential services have been arranged along the travel routes, with help from social organizations. The Chief Minister also advised pilgrims to check Google Maps before starting their journey. But if there are traffic issues, please stop at a safe place and wait, he urged. Worlds Biggest Traffic Jam: Pilgrims Stuck for Hours on Their Way to Maha Kumbh Ahead of President Murmus's reaching, on Sunday a massive traffic jam, stretching 200-300 km, caused chaos in Madhya Pradesh as thousands of pilgrims traveled to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela. The gridlock brought vehicles to a complete stop, leaving people stranded for hours. The heavy rush of devotees also created problems in Prayagraj. By 6 p.m. on Sunday, more than 1.42 crore people had taken a holy dip in the Ganga and Sangam. In total, over 42 crore pilgrims have already bathed at the fair. The huge crowd led to overcrowding, forcing railway officials to shut down Prayagraj Sangam railway station. Maha Kumbh, which started on January 13, is the worlds largest religious gathering which will go on Mahashivratri on February 26. So far, more than 44 crore devotees have taken a dip at the Triveni Sangam. On February 10 alone, by 10 am, about 63 lakh people had performed the holy bath. With over 1.44 crore devotees visiting daily, managing the crowd has become a big challenge for authorities.

Kejriwal's 'Haryana poisoning Yamuna remark' costed AAP 5 to 7 seats, says Manohar Lal Khattar
BHOPAL: Union minister and former Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar remarked that if Arvind Kejriwal had not made the 'Haryana poisoning Yamuna water to Delhi' remark, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would have won 5-7 more seats in the Delhi assembly polls. BJP trounced AAP by 48-22 seats, to make a return to power in Delhi after 27 years. Khattar talking to journalists in Bhopal said, Water disputes exist between various states, but Kejriwal has made it a habit of blaming others if he is unable to fulfil his commitments. I still remember him having made a challenging statement in the past that if river Yamuna wasnt cleaned, he would not contest the polls in 2025. He subsequently made the false statement of Haryana poisoning Yamuna water, but that statement turned dear to him, Khattar added. More than 40 per cent of Delhis population hail from Haryana. The statement did not go down well with the people from Haryana and Delhi as well and it ultimately costed the AAP and Kejriwal 5 to 7 seats, he also said. Water for Delhi comes from Palla in Haryana. Water quality at Palla was found up to the mark by Delhi Jal Board and Delhi Pollution Control Board. The water quality changes after Wazirabad and subsequently at ISBT and ITO, he claimed. He also added that the water quality turns very poor when the river enters Haryana again at Okhla.

MP shocker: 11-year-old girl with multiple disabilities dies after being raped in Rajgarh
BHOPAL: A 11-year-old deaf and mute-mentally challenged girl who was allegedly abducted and raped in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh died at a government hospital in Bhopal on Friday late night after battling for life for four days. Six days into the investigation, Rajgarh district police are still searching for the accused. The case has brought to the fore the ugly face of the illegal caste panchayat, whose decision to conceal the crime is being blamed for delaying both police action and medical treatment of the hapless girl. The minor girl who lived with his grandmother and uncle in a hut in Narsinghgarh town of Rajgarh district was reportedly abducted from her sleep on February 1. After searching, her kin was only able to find her the following morning under a nearby tree. Despite visible bleeding, her grandmother and uncle did not report the incident to the police, instead, they attempted to treat the minor girl's wounds themselves, worsening her condition According to sources close to the investigation revealed that an illegal caste panchayat on February 2 decided to keep the horrific incident quiet. The girl's family even burned the clothes she was wearing at the time of the incident, claiming they were dirty. On February 3, however, some people from the same area noticed blood stains on the clothes and reported to the police. Subsequently, the police rushed to the spot and took the minor girl for a medical examination at a government hospital in Rajgarh district, which confirmed severe injuries to her private parts due to sexual assault. While the police filed a case of abduction and rape under BNS sections, including provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act 2012, the girls family was reluctant to corporate to the investigation, claiming that some wild animal might have attacked and injured the girl. Following her critical health condition, the girl was transferred to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal on February 3. Doctors performed two surgeries to stabilize her, as her wounds had turned septic and spread infection. She received multiple blood transfusion and plasma therapy. Tragically, due to malnutrition (she weighed just 15 kg ) and a severely infected liver, her condition worsened leading to her death. During her hospitalisation in Bhopal, her relatives did not visit her and it was the Rajgarh police personnels, who served as her attendants. The hapless girl lost her father around four years back due to extreme alcoholism, after which her mother left the house and married someone else in Rajasthan. It was her grandmother, uncle and aunt, who subsequently looked after her, a police officer said. According to the Rajgarh district police superintendent Aditya Mishra, who is overseeing the investigation said, Our first priority is to track the accused, but owing to lack of cooperation by the girls family, the police are facing difficulties in getting clinching clues. Many people from Rajgarh, adjoining Dewas district and even some people living as far as Tamil Nadu have been questioned in the case, but success eludes multiple police teams. Were working hard in the case and will crack it shortly. Sources associated with the probe said that once the accused is apprehended, action will be taken under the POCSO Act against those responsible for delayed reporting of the crime.
12 lakh chicken deaths in Godavari districts; Ranikhet disease suspected
RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Poultry farmers in the Godavari districts are on edge after the mysterious death of over 12 lakh chickens in recent days. It is suspected that the cause could be Ranikhet disease (Newcastle disease) or Avian Influenza (Bird Flu). Officials from the Animal Husbandry Department have sent samples to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal to confirm the cause of the sudden and high volume of deaths. With more than two crore poultry birds in East Godavari district, the most affected areas are Undrajavaram and Peravali mandals, resulting in severe financial losses for farmers. To monitor the situation, the Animal Husbandry Department has formed expert panels, with two teams assigned to each mandal to inspect poultry farms. Speaking to TNIE, Srinivasa Rao, a senior officer from the Animal Husbandry Department in Rajamahendravaram, stated that samples from the deceased chickens were sent to NIHSAD three days ago. AP Poultry Fed initiates steps to overcome crisis The results are expected within three days. He noted that the mortality rate is higher in West Godavari and other regions and expressed concern that Ranikhet disease could be the cause, as it is more common during the winter season. Suspecting Ranikhet disease as the likely cause, AP Poultry Federation President KV Subba Rao told TNIE that poor sanitation in poultry farms and inadequate vaccination could have contributed to the spread of the disease. He added that meetings have been organised with poultry owners in Tanuku, Vijayawada, and other areas to raise awareness about disease prevention. The expert also highlighted that the Godavari belt, with 2.5 crore birds and 500 poultry owners, supports the livelihoods of approximately five lakh people. Subba Rao also pointed to farmers negligence in disposing of the dead chickens. Some have been found dumping the carcasses in canals or on streets, which may have contributed to the spread of the infection. To address this, the Federation is holding meetings to educate poultry farmers about biosecurity measures. Veterinary doctors have also been visiting farms to advise farmers on maintaining the health and hygiene of their chickens. Rao emphasised that there is no need to panic, as the AP Poultry Federation is working closely with veterinary professionals to manage the crisis.

Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand transforms women's rights, says Surekha Dangwal
DEHRADUN: UCC not only strengthens the socio-economic security of women and children but also fortifies the institution of marriage, said Prof. Surekha Dangwal, a member of the expert committee drafted the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand and Vice-Chancellor of Doon University. Speaking to TNIE , Mrs Dangwal said, The essence of Uttarakhand's Uniform Civil Code is to establish equality by eliminating gender-based discrimination. There are many cases where women wasn't unaware of their husbands' second marriages, often hidden under the guise of religious customs. With the implementation of mandatory marriage registration, the potential for such deceit against women will be significantly reduced, she said adding, The UCC aims to curb the harmful practice of marrying off girls under the age of 18 in secrecy, allowing daughters to pursue higher education with confidence. She also shared her insights on the UCC, promoting equality within the social structure and ensuring economic security for the elderly. Under the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code, upon an individual's death, equal property rights have been granted not only to the spouse and children but also to the parents. This ensures that the rights of elderly parents are also protected, she added. Saptapadi, secularism and the Uniform Civil Code: A pluralistic predicament Dangwal also addressed the implications for children born out of live-in relationships. Children born from live-in arrangements will have rights to their parents' acquired property just like those born through marriage, she explained adding. This will instill a sense of responsibility within live-in relationships, while also enriching the institution of marriage. Moreover, with clear guidelines in place, there will be a reduction in court cases. She further said that the Constitution of India allows two adult citizens to choose their partners according to their preferences. The Special Marriage Act already exists for this purpose, which also requires objections to be filed. She also said that to curb incidents of love jihad, conversion laws are already in place. Tiger, wild boar turn friends after falling into well in land of 'Jungle Book'
BHOPAL: The fear of being drowned in a well led a tigress and its potential prey, a wild boar, to turn friends for survival, before being rescued in Madhya Pradeshs Seoni district. The rare sight which was captured on camera took place on Tuesday in the states Pench Tiger Reserve which is also famous as the inspiration for the Jungle Book. It was at around 8.30 am that the sub-adult tigress and the wild boar it was chasing fell into a well in Hardua village (on the boundary of Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) and South Seoni territorial forests) in Seoni district. On being alerted, a rescue team headed by PTRs veterinary doctor Dr Akhilesh Mishra rushed to the site and started the rescue operations. The option of tranquilizing the three-year-old tigress before its rescue wasnt viable, as it could have led to the drowning of the big cat once it turned unconscious. Subsequently, a cot was lowered into the well, making the tigress (which had become tired while swimming to save its life in the well) sit on it for comfort. Seeing the tiger perched on the cot, the potential prey wild boar took support on the tigresss back for some time, before a big cage was sent into the well followed by the rescue of the tigress and the wild boar one after another, using a hydraulic crane. The entire operation of rescuing the tigress and wild boar one after another spanned around three hours. The rescue started at around 9.30 am and successfully ended at around 12.30 pm, PTRs deputy director Rajnish Kumar Singh told The New Indian Express . Around 60 rescuers were involved in the operation to save the two wild animals. Madhya Pradesh's Chief Wildlife Conservator directed that the tiger be released in the Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary under the Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve of Sagar district, Singh added.
