The Southwest Monsoon's arrival in Andhra Pradesh, which was predicted by the IMD to be in the next two days last week, has now been revised. Hyderabad : Telangana received respite from the scorching heat on Monday due to a sudden change in temperature caused by the formation of two weather systems. One system formed in western Vidarbha and its surrounding areas, while the other is a Trough or wind discontinuity extending from southern Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka. The Indian Meteorological Department warned of heavy rains expected on Wednesday. Some parts of the state also witnessed hailstorms. Hyderabad experienced rainfall in the morning, bringing relief to its residents who later ventured out to enjoy tourism spots. Even those observing Ramzan fast found relief from the heat. Over the past two weeks, temperatures in Telangana soared, with maximums reaching 40 degrees Celsius. Explaining the sudden change in temperature, meteorologist Mansabdar Mukunda said, Two weather systems are at play, causing the shift in Telangana's weather. One is an upper air cyclonic circulation at 1.5 km above sea level in western Vidarbha and its surrounding areas. The second is a Trough or wind discontinuity extending from southern Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka to a surface circulation centred in western Vidarbha and its surrounding areas at 0.9 km above sea level. This pattern is expected to bring more rains to Telangana for the next two days. Monday saw rains in Telangana, including Hyderabad. The pleasant temperatures are forecasted to continue, with maximums hovering around 34 degrees Celsius. Hailstorms were reported in the districts of Sangareddy and Rajanna Sirsila, with forecasts predicting hail in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Naryanpet on Tuesday. On Wednesday, heavy rains are expected in eastern Telangana, affecting areas such as Jaishanker Bhupally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam. This will likely bring rains to isolated pockets of Hyderabad as well.

Revanth Reddy, who visited Delhi on Tuesday, met AICC leader Sonia Gandhi. (Image source:Twitter) Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met AICC leader Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Monday. The meeting assumed significance ahead of Congress party's central election committee (CEC) meeting on Tuesday, convened to select candidates for Lok Sabha polls. The CEC is also expected to discuss the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly bypoll, which will be held along with the Lok Sabha elections on May 13. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of BRS MLA Lasya Nanditha in a car accident on Outer Ring Road on February 23. The Congress high command declared candidates for only four Lok Sabha constituencies in its first list on March 8, which include Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Zaheerabad and Mahabubabad. It is yet to declare candidates for the remaining 13 Lok Sabha constituencies. The party high command ordered flash surveys in these three constituencies to determine the winning prospects of candidates who are in the race for tickets. The survey teams, spearheaded by the Congress party's poll strategist Sunil Kanugolu, conducted surveys in 13 constituencies simultaneously since Wednesday last. It is learnt that Kanugolu submitted constituency-wise survey reports to the party leadership on Sunday. Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who are the members of CEC, will take part in the meeting in Delhi on Tuesday. It is learnt that the CEC meetings will be held for two days on March 19 and 20 and Telangana candidates selection would be taken up on March 19. Earlier, in combined Andhra Pradesh, there used to be a tradition that was followed by major political parties not to contest bypolls in the event of death of an incumbent MLA and the particular party fields one of the family members of deceased MLA. But after the formation of Telangana state in 2014, then ruling BRS party broke this tradition by fielding candidates in bypolls for Naranyankhed in February 2016 and Palair in May 2016 which were held due to the death of incumbent Congress MLAs P. Kista Reddy and Ramreddy Venkat Reddy. The BRS wrested both these seats from the Congress. Against this backdrop, the Congress is keen to contest the Secunderabad Cantonment seat even if BRS allots a ticket to one of the family member's of late MLA Lasya Nanditha. Recently, Lasya Niveditha, sister of late MLA, expressed her desire to contest bypoll from the Secunderabad Cantonment and urged the party leadership to nominate her for the bypoll.
TD leaders in Vizag in desperate wait for tickets

They are pinning their hopes on party chief Chandrababu Naidu. The TD leadership has not explained to Ganta Srinivas Rao why he was denied the Bhimili ticket. Ganta hesitates to go to compete against Botsa in Chipurupalli of Vizianagaram district. He repeatedly conveyed his reservations to the leadership but did not get any positive response. Senior leader and former minister Bandaru Satyanarayana is depressed as he does not know whether he will get a ticket or not. Rumours were that he was considering the option of quitting the party and joining the YSRC. But Bandaru said he has no such plan. Bandaru expected the Pendurthi assembly ticket. When the TD was in trouble, Bandaru stood firm and confronted the YSRC. TD men say that Bandaru's troubles started when former MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu bid goodbye to the YSRC, joined the Jana Sena and grabbed the ruling partys Pendurti ticket. There is talk in TD that the Pendurthi ticket will be given to Jana Sena and Panchkarla Ramesh Babu will be the candidate. Bandarus close associates say Bandaru is unable to digest this. TD cadres say it is not appropriate to sideline leaders like Bandaru, who have worked for the party and faced arrests. The YSRC has not decided on its candidate for the Anakapalli LS seat. A campaign is on in the district that Bandaru can be given this MP ticket. TDP sources say Bandaru cannot go to YSRC as his son-in-law, Srikakulam MP Kinjarapu Rammohananaidu, is in a key position in TD.

APPSC moves HC on annulling Group-1 Mains (2018) exams
Vijayawada : The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission moved the High Court on Monday, challenging the single judge bench order which nullified the notification for the 2018 Group-1 main examination. The matter will be coming up for hearing before a two judge bench on Tuesday. The APPSC said 165 were selected among 325 candidates qualified in the interview. Of those selected, four candidates were selected by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) one for IAS, two for IPS, one for IRS. Among those selected in Group-1 interview, there were candidates with an academic background of IIT, IIM, BITS, Pilani, NIT, IIIT, MD, MBBS, BDS and so on, indicating the quality of candidates who appeared for the Group-1 exams and got selected in the interview. The single-judge bench agreed with the petitioners contention that the evaluation of Group-1 examination papers was done digitally even though it was not mentioned in the 2018 notification and a subsequent manual evaluation was also done for three times. The state PSC also maintained that based on a direction from the High Court, they conducted manual evaluation only once by roping in 165 professors, association professors and assistant professors drawn from across the state by running the evaluation camp at three places at a time for 55 days. APPSC chairman Gautam Sawang said, We are obligated to give all necessary clarifications on the issue at the appropriate forum. As a constitutional body, we are not supposed to join the issue publicly. Moreover, it was under the Telugu Desam government, the APPSC under the chairmanship of prof. Uday Bhaskar carried out the digital evaluation of answer scripts of Group-1 main examination without mentioning it in the notification.

Naidu Never Contests Elections Independently, Says AP Dy Speaker
Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly deputy speaker K. Veerabhadra Swamy accused Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu of never contesting elections independently, always seeking alliances instead. Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan have never fought elections alone. They are always choosing to ally with other parties, Swamy said while speaking to reporters after offering prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala on Monday. Deputy speaker further added that opposition parties have united against the ruling YSR Congress Party because they are not strong enough to take on Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy alone. The Deputy Speaker remained confident about Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's victory in the upcoming elections despite the unified opposition. He criticised Naidu's governance prior to Jagan's term, alleging wastage of housands of crores and before Jagan's YSRC took over developed the state. Claiming that the YSRC was formed with the aim of defeating the Congress Party, Swamy further alleged that Naidu has secret pacts with all opposition parties.

Court Permits Withdrawal of Writ Plea Against Zoroastrian Club
HYDERABAD: The two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Anil Kumar on Monday permitted the withdrawal of a writ appeal against Zoroastrian Club. Earlier, a single judge of the court had dismissed the writ plea filed by Keki Irani against the police and the management of the Zoroastrian Club. In the course of hearing the appeal, it was pointed out to the panel how multiple cases were filed by the writ appellant. The panel heard Shireen Sethna Baria, Counsel, appearing for Zoroastrian Club, who would point out that multiple litigations were initiated by the appellant. In the writ petition under appeal, it was contended by the appellants that the police were hand in glove with the club members and was interfering with their civil disputes. The club on the other hand pointed out multiple cases where the claim of the appellant was rejected. Counsel specifically drew attention of the court to the finding of the High Court which had observed that the petitioner is not a tenant of the property in question. The panel accordingly saw no reason to interfere with the order of the single judge imposing costs of `10,000 on the erring party. The panel then permitted the appellant, Irani, to withdraw the appeal rather than invite an order on merits. Respond to protection of heritage buildings The two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Anil Kumar on Monday granted one weeks time to the Municipal Corporation and the other authorities to respond on the construction of underground water pipelines near Golconda Fort. The authorities also granted time to respond on the issue of protection of ancient monuments. The panel was hearing a batch of PILs dealing with various aspects of heritage buildings. While in one writ petition, the court takes up a case related to multiple monuments and heritage buildings, one PIL is related to Asharafkhana masjid. Yet another writ plea dealt with the permission granted for the construction of villas close to the Golconda Fort by M/s. Aditya Homes. The panel wanted the government to respond to a relief requiring the construction of a compound wall around the heritage building to protect the same from encroachments. Disciplinary proceedings pending criminal case stayed by HC Justice Pulla Karthik of the Telangana High Court on Monday stayed disciplinary proceedings against a sub-inspector of police who is facing criminal charges of the same genre. The petitioner, Ahmed Pasha, challenged the action of the authorities in placing him under suspension though he was empanelled for promotion to the cadre of inspector and was on the verge of retirement. According to the petitioner, the criminal charges and the disciplinary proceedings are related to false cases under the Dowry Prohibition Act and the conduct of the disciplinary proceedings will hamper his defence. HC rejects acting against senior IAS Officers A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court on Monday disposed of a PIL filed by advocate Pashyam Krishna Reddy questioning the allotment of 560 sq. yards of land at Jeedimetla Industrial Housing Complex in favour of an employee of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). The plea seeking prosecution and inquiry against two senior IAS officers B.P. Acharya and V.R. Meena was rejected. N. Naveen Kumar appearing for the beneficiary pointed out that there was nothing wrong with the allotment and that the allotment was made in accordance with the policy of APIIC. The plea of the petitioner that it was auction land was denied by the corporation. The corporation defended its action stating that the land was prone to encroachment and the allotment was based on the policy of the corporation. Though the plot was allotted at the rate of Rs 6,000 per sq. yard the panel required the beneficiary officer who at the relevant point was a law manager to pay the cost of the plot at an enhanced rate of Rs 12,000. Disha Encounter: AG seeks time to state govt stand Advocate General, A. Sudershan Reddy on Monday informed the High Court that the state governments stance on the Justice Sirpurkar Commission Report would be communicated to the court. Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy who earlier heard in part counsels of the various police officers and revenue officials in connection with the Justice Sirpurkar Commission which, to the uninitiated was dealing with the encounter relating to the death of the accused in the Disha rape case. It was uniformly contended by a battery of senior counsels that all the findings of the Commission would have to go in view of the fact that they were recorded without notice to the petitioners. Even before the court started hearing, Justice Vijaysen Reddy wanted to know the stance of the state government in the changed political scenario.

No voting arrangements for displaced Manipuris taking shelter outside state, says EC
GUWAHATI: Unlike past precedents, people displaced by the ethnic violence in Manipur and taking shelter in other states will not be able to vote in the Lok Sabha elections unless they return to their state. Manipurs Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pradeep Kumar Jha said there is no voting arrangement for people who left the state outside it. Last year, the then Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga had stated that some 12,000 displaced people (Kuki-Zomi tribals) from Manipur were taking shelter in his state. On March 16, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had said the displaced people in Manipur would vote from relief camps. We have drawn up a scheme which we have notified. We notified the scheme to allow voters in the camps to vote from their respective camps, Kumar had stated. The Manipur CEO told The New Indian Express that the scheme is limited to the state's territorial jurisdiction. The scheme is for the internally-displaced persons. We know that roughly about 60,000 people from across communities are staying in the relief camps in 10 districts. The scheme has been designed for them. As regards people who are in Mizoram, nobody has approached us. We are not aware of it, Jha told TNIE. Assam LS polls coincide with Rongali Bihu; displaced Manipuris to cast votes from relief camps He said people, who had left the state, could come back to their home district or any district where they would feel comfortable about coming back to vote. We are setting up special polling stations (in relief camps). They can vote there. But they will have to apply, the CEO said. As per the scheme in Manipur, the internally displaced persons will be considered as ordinary residents of the place where they have been displaced from and treated as electors of the original place. The internally displaced persons are required to submit ID form to the designated AROs (Assistant Returning Officers) at least 10 days before the date of poll. Adequate number of forms shall be made available at the offices of District Election Officers, designated AROs and at the relief camps. A copy of the scheme is also made available in the websites of Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur and District Election Officers, the Manipur election department stated in a press note on March 16. In 1997, an estimated 40,000 people from Mizorams minority Bru (Reang) community had fled to adjoining Tripura in the wake of an ethnic conflict and resultant tension. After missing two elections, they cast their votes through postal ballots for two elections in Mizoram from their relief camps in Tripura. However, in the subsequent elections, they were taken to Mizoram. Special polling stations were set up for them in places close to the interstate border. Mizoram and Tripura government had jointly made their travel and security arrangements. Meanwhile, the displaced people taking shelter in Mizoram said they were unlikely to go to Manipur to cast votes. One way travel from (Mizoram capital) Aizawl to (Kuki-Zomi majority) Churachandpur costs Rs 5,000 and the time taken is 13-14 hours. If the government does not take care of our transportation, we will not go to vote, John Zo, who is the leader of a group of displaced people lodged at a Mizoram government building at Falkland in Aizawl, told this newspaper. According to his estimates, over 2,000 of the displaced people living in Mizoram are voters of Manipur. The displaced Kuki-Zomi tribals are staying in government buildings and rented accommodations, John said, adding, The Mizoram government had provided us with ration for the first four weeks. Some local NGOs and Christian organisations from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are now helping us.

Tamil star Ajith market stuck in Telugu states?
Despite being a superstar in Kollywood, Ajith Kumar is unable to expand his fan base in Telugu states although his arch-rivals like Rajinikanth and Vijay have struck a chord with Telugu viewers. Ajith Kumar is far behind his rivals in Telugu states since most of his films failed to connect with Telugu movie buffs, says a distributor and adds, Now, Ajith is joining hands with Telugu producers and looking to find a foothold in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana since director Adhik earlier time travel film Mark Antony made some noise, he adds. Apart from Kamal and Rajnikanth who boast of Telugu fans for many decades, Tamil star Vijay began to expand his horizons in two Telugu states with Adhirindi, Sarkar, and Leo. Vijay has attained a market of Rs 20 crore over the years in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while Ajith Kumar's dubbing market is hovering around Rs 3 to 4 crore. His next film Good Bad Ugly is billed as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual film, it could give him mileage among Telugu viewers and expand his market, he points out. While his other rivals like Suriya, Karthi, Vishal, and even Vijay Antony making inroads into Telugu states, Ajith has a task on hand with his next big production. Ajith films like Vaali did well in Telugu land but it wasnt consolidated. Its high time for him to give his rivals a run for their money in Andhra and Telangana too, he concludes.
Millet push increased farmers' income 10-20% in Uttarakhand: IIM Kashipur study
Millet push increased farmers' income 10-20% in Uttarakhand: IIM Kashipur study The central government's push for millet crop has increased the yearly income of 75 per cent of the millet farmers between 10 per cent to 20 per cent in Uttarakhand, revealed a study conducted on over 2,100 farmers by Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur. As per the IIM Kashipur study, the six-month-long study conducted by four senior professors and five data collectors, Millet Production in Uttarakhand: An Empirical Analysis of its Socio-Economic Impact and Marketability Challenges was recently released at the premises of the premier management institute. The International Year of Millet 2023 has played a role in raising awareness about millet as a sustainable crop worldwide and increased the demand for millet-based products both nationally and globally. The study found that the recent push by both the Centre and the State created a demand for millet crops in the market but the farmers were unaware of it. Besides, they found most farmers are growing Millets for self-consumption instead of earning a profit. Most of the farmers growing millets for self-consumption and are not using it as a money crop like rice and wheat, said assistant professor Shivam Rai of the IIM Kashipur, the Principal Investigator of the study. Apart from Shivam Rai, the co-investigators of the study are Dr Deepak Sangroya and Dr Gaurav Kabra, Associate Professors at OP Jindal Global Business School and Dr Nishant Singh Assistant Professor at Bennett University. The study was funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research. The study reveals that the government schemes designed to support the Millet farmers are becoming futile because of the communication gap and the language barrier. Millets are a sustainable crop which is not only nutritious, and healthy but also easy to store and doesn't damage the soil, said Professor Rai. The study was conducted to address the marketability challenges of millet production and identify effective strategies to increase its economic presence. The sample size for the survey was collected from the major hilly regions of the state such as Pithoragarh, Joshimath, Rudra Prayag, Chamoli and others. Millets are considered the staple food for the local community, enhancing their food security and nutrition by reducing their dependence on other cereal crops. The individuals part of the study believe their work will aid in devising strategies for improving the livelihoods of producers and the supply-value demand of millet. India produces all the nine commonly known traditional millets viz. Sorghum, Pearl Millet, Finger Millet, Foxtail Millet, Proso Millet, Little Millet, Barnyard Millet, Browntop Millet and Kodo Millet. The government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution for declaring the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets and the proposal of India was supported by 72 countries. Millet is a common term for categorizing small-seeded grasses that are often called Nutri-cereals. Most of the states in India grow one or more millet crop species. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are the major millets producing states. (ANI)

Labourer crushed to death in Odisha, locals block road
JAJPUR: Tension gripped Rahadpur within Dharmasala police limits of the district after a labourer allegedly died and two others sustained grievous injuries in a mishap at a stone crusher unit on Sunday. The identities of the deceased and the injured are yet to be ascertained though they are reported to be from West Bengal. The incident took place when the trio was opening the wheels of a crusher machine, and one of them apparently came under the wheels and died on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries. The injured were rushed to Jajpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated. Their condition is stated to be critical, police said. As the news of the death spread, locals alleged that the crusher unit was being illegally run without any license and blocked the road near Samparu village. No stone crusher unit in Rahadpur and other areas has no objection certificate (NOC) to operate. Local labourers dont get work at these stone crushing units. The owners of stone crushing units are bringing labourers from West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh to work here. As the deceased and injured labourers are outsiders, they are yet to be identified even eight hours after the mishap, said a local , Maheswar Das. He alleged the deceased labourers body was being taken to an unknown place by covering it with a black polythene sheet in the back of a pickup truck. Smelling something fishy we detained the vehicle and staged a road blockade in protest. We demand `50 lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased and adequate compensation for the seriously injured labourers. We want the owner of the crusher unit to be punished heavily as he was operating the unit without any valid document, he added. On being informed, police reached the spot and tried to pacify the enraged locals. The road blockade was withdrawn after police assured stern action against the stone crusher unit owner.

No fresh PRLIS appraisal till tribunals final verdict on Krishna: Centre
HYDERABAD: In a major setback for the state government, the Centre has made it very clear that fresh appraisal of detailed project report (DPR) of Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) cannot be carried out until the existing Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) gives its final verdict on sharing of Krishna river waters between sibling states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Central Water Commission (CWC) stated that the PRLIS involved utilisation of Krishna river waters and a gazette notification was issued in October, 2023 by the Union government, giving fresh terms of reference (ToR) to the existing Brijesh Kumar Tribunal. The matter is now sub-judice and currently appraisal of Palamuru Rangareddy LIS cannot be carried out till the final award/notification of the Tribunal, the CWC said in reply to a RTI query raised by RTI activist Inaganti Ravi Kumar. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on January 4, 2024 wrote a letter to the Union government on PRLIS. The Jala Shakti Ministry treating the letter as VIP reference letter, made it clear that the appraisal of PRLIS cannot be carried out till the final award of the Tribunal. The same was shared with Ravi Kumar. The DPR of PRLIS was submitted to the CWC for techno-economic appraisal of CWC on September 13, 2022. The CWC replied to Ravi Kumars question, on conferring national project status on PRLIS, that the process of inclusion of a project as a national project was mentioned in the Guidelines for Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayeee Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (PMKSY-AIBP) and National Project of February, 2022. The RTI reply also recalled the fresh ToR given to Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, which includes: The tribunal shall distribute/allocate the Krishna river waters between the States of Telangana and the present State of Andhra Pradesh from undivided share of erstwhile State of Andhra Pradesh and the total undivided share of the erstwhile State of Andhra Pradesh that may be considered for the purpose of this distribution/allocation is as below: 1) 811 tmcft of overall allocation (en bloc) made by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-1 to the erstwhile state of AP and any additional allocation over and above it made by the said Tribunal to the erstwhile AP. 2) share of water allocated to the erstwhile AP by the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal, which is made available by transfer of water from Godavari to Krishna through Polavaram project and any further transfer from Godavari to Krishna from Polavaram project, if proposed. Mentioning the fresh ToR, the CWC replied to Ravi Kumar: Therefore, in view of above the matter is now sub-judice and currently the appraisal of Palamuru-Rangareddy LIS cannot be carried out till the final award/notification of the said Tribunal. However, Ravi Kumar opined that the final award/judgment of the Tribunal may come only after five years and the DPR of the PRLIS cannot be appraised till next five years and without DRP, the state government cannot go ahead of the project. The PRLIS is proposed to irrigate 12 lakh acres in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts and also to provide drinking waters to several villages.

However, the BRS, YSRCP, TDP and Jana Sena Party did not disclose either the details of the donors or the buyers of the bonds. They maintained that as per rules, they are not required to disclose the details of the donors. The BRS said in its letter to the ECI that detailed particulars of the donors against each bond were not available with them as the electoral bonds scheme did not facilitate capturing of the details of the donors. Challenges rise in Kotia as Odisha, AP polls on one day
KORAPUT: The district administration of Koraput faces a daunting task as it prepares for elections in Kotia panchayat, where approximately 6,000 registered voters are spread across a cluster of 21 villages with affiliations to both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh (AP). Complicating matters further, both Odisha and AP go to polls on May 13. Citing past incidents during the 2019 general elections, sources said AP officials allegedly transported villagers from the disputed area to influence voting in favour of Andhra Pradesh. These 21 villages fall under different Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in both Odisha and AP. However, collector V Kirti Vasan assured the establishment of nine polling stations in Kotia panchayat. He emphasised that efforts will be made to guide voters towards Odishas polling stations. Kotia sarpanch Leu Gamel reaffirmed the allegiance of the 21 villages to Odisha, stating the states contributions to their development is immense. The Odisha government has constructed roads, school building and generated self employment schemes. The people of our region will never forget the contribution of the government, said Gamel assuring that he will personally meet all residents of Kotia and convince them so that not one person will go to AP on the day to vote. Gamel urged district administration for setting up adequate polling stations and heightened security measures during the election period to prevent external influence. The collector, on Saturday, announced strict enforcement of the model code of conduct. All security measures will be in place to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process in Koraput district, he added. Poll-preparedness meet in districts All measures are in place to conduct the ensuing general elections smoothly and fairly in Boudh, said collector J Sonal while chairing a meeting of district administration officials. While 68 Maoist-prone booths have been identified, 10 temporary helipads are ready to meet any exigency, said Sonal. Similar meetings were held in Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Jagatsinghpur in presence of the district collectors, SPs and other officials on Sunday ahead of the general elections.

APCC chief Sharmila denounces PM Modis YSRC & Congress same remark
VIJAYAWADA: APCC chief YS Sharmila took serious exception to the comments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the YSRC and the Congress are the same and headed by members of the same family. Taking to X soon after NDAs public meeting, she posted the BJP as a ringmaster making Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu play in their cages. Neglecting the State for a decade, BJP is now resorting to finger-pointing at the Congress and me. The BJP sailed with Jagan unofficially for five years and has turned a blind eye to all that was happening. Further, indirectly it has been helping YSRC. On its part, YSRC has obediently supported every bill of BJP in a shameful manner. It encouraged the YSRC government to borrow, only seeking its destruction, she observed. BJP and YSRC have a strong friendship. Congress gave assurances, but they were disregarded by the BJP, TDP, and YSRC. Now, to hide their ineptness, they started pointing fingers at Congress. Are they afraid of Congress? Sharmila questioned.
Agenda of Sharmila and Naidu same: Andhra Pradesh minister
VISAKHAPATNAM: Minister for IT and Industries Gudivada Amarnath on Sunday said APCC president YSR Sharmilas agenda was nothing but TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidus. He described Saturdays All India Congress Committee meeting at Ukkunagaram as All India Chandrababu Committee meeting. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, he went on to say that the Congress meeting was for Chandrababu, by Chandrababu and of Chandrababu. Naidu has direct alliance with one party and indirect alliance with another party, he observed. The Congress, which destroyed AP , has no moral right to speak for it. Only the YSRC, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Union, and those who feel the steel plant as a sentiment of the people of Andhra, have got the right to fight against the Centres decision to privatise it, he asserted. The 2019 elections had proved that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is the real successor of YSR, he added.
VISAKHAPATNAM: YSRC president and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who announced the party candidates for all 175 Assembly and 24 Lok Sabha constituencies at one go, has not chosen anyone for Anakapalle parliamentary segment, which surprised political circles. Similarly, the YSRC leadership has changed the candidate of Araku Lok Sabha constituency at the last minute. Earlier, the party named Paderu MLA Kotagulli Bhagya Lakshmi as the YSRC coordinator of Araku in place of sitting MP Goddeti Madhavi. In the final list, the name of Araku MLA Chetti Palgunas daughter in-law Chetti Tanuja Rani has appeared in place of Bhagya Lakshmi. With regard to Anakapalle, the YSRC seems to have come up with a new game plan. Earlier, the YSRC named Pilla Rama Kumari, sister of Visakha Dairy Chairman Adari Anand as the coordinator of Anakapalle. However, Rama Kumari is said to be uninterested in contesting from Anakalpalle. Meanwhile, it is speculated that BJP MP CM Ramesh may be fielded from Anakapalle as the saffron party candidate as part of the tripartite alliance. Hence, the YSRC leadership is said to be scouting for a strong BC candidate to take on Ramesh. It is also speculated that a senior TDP leader may join the YSRC soon and he is likely to be fielded from Anakapalle. Now, none of the sitting YSRC MPs is in the fray from Araku, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle Lok Sabha constituencies of the erstwhile undivided Visakhapatnam district. Sitting Visakhapatnam MP MVV Satyanarayana is in the fray from Visakhapatnam East Assembly constituency. The YSRC has fielded him against three time MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu to wrest Visakhapatnam East from the TDP. Araku MP Madhavi and Anakapalle B Satyavathi are not in the fray this time. Withholding the announcement of Anakapalle Lok Sabha candidate at the last minute seems to be a new game plan of the YSRC to retain the seat, a political analyst observed.
AP: Dissidence hits Tirupati Jana Sena over selection of non-local candidate
TIRUPATI: The TDP-JSP combine seems to be divided in Tirupati Assembly constituency over the selection of candidate for the elections. The differences between the TDP and JSP are largely attributed to the issue of local versus non-local in the candidate selection. Grappled with caste equations, the alliance had initially decided to field a candidate from the dominant Balija community, which has a sizeable population in Tirupati. However, differences seem to have cropped up after Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan has confirmed the candidature of Arani Srinivasulu, MLA of neighbouring Chittoor, who recently quit the YSRC, for Tirupati. Srinivasulus candidature has been strongly opposed by a section of TDP-JSP combine and Balija community leaders, arguing that he is a non-local. After holding an emergency meeting, they urged the JSP leadership to reconsider its decision on Srinivasulus candidature and field a local candidate from Tirupati. The dissident groups argue that Srinivasulus selection could undermine the local leadership and mar the election prospects of TDP-JSP combine against Bhumana Abhinay Reddy of YSRC, who has already intensified his campaign to reach out to the people. The JSP has prepared the ground for the Assembly elections well in advance. The JSP leadership might have considered the sentiments of the party rank and file before announcing the candidate. The appointment of a non-local as the party candidate has hurt the sentiments of JSP cadre, said a senior leader. As the issue of local versus non-local is getting more complicated, the TDP-JSP alliance has now faced a tough challenge of tackling the local sentiment and finding a candidate capable of uniting the Balija community and other voters to take on the ruling YSRC. The dissident groups are said to be planning to convene a meeting to decide on the next course of action. Amidst growing tension on the issue of local versus non-local, the BJP, which is also a part of the alliance, has remained silent.

Telangana: CM Revanth urged to cut shooting location rates
The Tollywood industry bigwigs will be requesting Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to reduce rates for film shootings in government premises in Telangana since they are quite expensive right now. No doubt, Andhra Pradesh is much cheaper and offers public locations free of cost for film shootings unlike in Telangana state, says producer-director Teja who feels that more shootings could move to Andhra Pradesh. Filmmakers have to just pay Rs 1000 as document charges to APFDC for getting permission to shoot in parks, flyovers, streets, hospitals, dams, and highways. Producers could end up saving Rs 15 to 35 lakhs per film and also shoot films without any hassles. It is a blessing for small and medium-budget filmmakers. Whereas, no such luck in Telangana state and particularly in Hyderabad city where costs are a bit exorbitant, he adds. With shooting charges ranging between Rs 15,000 and Rs 3, 00,000 per day for various locations in Telangana state, Telugu film producers are a worried lot. They have to earmark anywhere between Rs 15 to Rs 35 lakhs from their budgets for each film just for location fees which is surely pinching their pockets Adding to their woes, seeking permission from various government departments is another arduous task, so producers are migrating to other States to shoot their films. Admitting the same, a Telangana-based producer, on condition of anonymity says, In Telangana state, the location charges have shot up drastically in the last few years. A park which was costing Rs 5000 has now jumped to Rs 50,000 per day. Earlier, shooting in Qutb Shahi Tombs cost us Rs 5000, but now it is pegged at around Rs 50,000. Whereas for interior roads and main roads, the cost varies between Rs 25,000 to Rs 1,00,000 with lots of restrictions, he says and adds, For premium spots like Cable Bridge over Durgam Chevuru, it would cost Rs 3.5 lakhs, and shooting is allowed only in the midnight. Similarly, T Hub charges Rs 2 lakh per day even for a small budget film, he points out. Although a single window system is in operation in Telangana, there are a few issues with local police while shooting at public places. Single window system has to be strengthened because even though we get permission to shoot at a park or road, the local police fail to give us proper protection and give us one or two constables in place of six. When we ask the local police, they say they cant spare more because they have other work to do. We have to put the lives of superstars, actresses, and technicians at risk because it is very difficult for crew members to control surging crowds. Whereas police can use lathis or push people back since they have the power. So we dread shooting in public places in Telangana, he concludes.

Technical glitches, crowd control issues mar TDP-BJP-JSP rally with PM Modi in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: Praja Galam, the much publicised first public meeting of the TDP-BJP-JSP combine held at Boppudi near Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district on Sunday, was marred with several arrangement lapses, despite attracting huge crowds. Due to technical glitch in the public address system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was forced to cut short his speech. Within a minute after the start of Modis speech, the microphones went mute. Even as Modi himself asked the technicians to rectify the snag, the same problem recurred twice. Even as the leaders from the dais repeatedly appealed to the people not to surge towards the console of public address system and cooperate to the successful conduct of the meeting, some people did not heed the suggestion and caused disturbance. Modi on his part, made light of the situation. At one point of time, Naidu appeared to have expressed his ire at Prathipati Pulla Rao, former minister and TDP candidate from Chilakaluripet Assembly constituency, for failing to ensure proper arrangements for the public meeting attended by the Prime Minister. With Modi not mentioning any specific issues related to the State and also not making any harsh remarks against the ruling YSRC government, a section of TDP leaders expressed disappointment. While Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan was addressing the meeting, Modi observed some youths climbing the lighting towers, and appealed to them to get down. Come down, you would create unwanted problems, he said. TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh, who welcomed Modi at the helipad, however, was not seen on the dais. Meanwhile, stampede like situation took place in some galleries of the public meeting, resulting in damage to hundreds of chairs. Barricades arranged to separate the galleries were also pulled down. Later, Pulla Rao found fault with police for failing to arrange rope party at the console of public address system to control the surging crowds.

Its a flop, alliance fails to tell anything concrete to people: Former AP minister
VIJAYAWADA: Terming the Praja Galam meeting of the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance at Boppudi near Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district a big flop, minister Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) said the tripartite alliance had failed to tell the people what they would offer them if they are voted to power in the State. Nani also found fault with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not mentioning any of the unfulfilled promises like completion of Polavaram project and others during his address. Speaking to mediapersons on Sunday, Nani asked as to why TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu was now supporting Modi, whom he had opposed and abused five years back. How is Naidu, who equalled Modi to a terrorist five years back, calling the same person a Viswaguru now? Nani sought to know. On the glitches in the public address system during Modis speech, Nani questioned as to how the alliance was going to take on Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy when they could not even organise a meeting properly. In our Siddham meetings, we have told the people what we have done and why the people of the State should vote for Jagan. The alliance partners, however, have failed to tell what they will do to the State and why people should support them, Nani said. Nani also wondered as to what the Double Engine Sarkar of the TDP-BJP had done to the State in the past and why they should be voted to power again. Nani further said neither Modi, Naidu or Pawan Kalyan could tell whether they would give Special Category Status or not. Nani also questioned Pawan Kalyan as to why he did not raise the issue of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant privatisation at the meeting. The former minister also made light of Modis comments that the YSRC and the Congress are one. Not just the BJP, even TDP activists would believe such remarks. In fact, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in AP and Telangana is nothing but All India Chandrababu Committee, he observed. Nani reminded that Modi himself had alleged that Naidu had used Polavaram project as an ATM and also announced that a probe would be ordered into the alleged scam in Amaravati and others. Why did not the BJP government order a probe into the alleged irregularities in construction of Polavaram. How did Naidu come out clean now on Polavaram issue? Nani questioned.
