Revise Talliki Vandanam guidelines to include contract govt workers: CPM to CM Naidu
VIJAYAWADA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Andhra Pradesh Committee has appealed to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to extend the Talliki Vandanam scheme to low-income contract, outsourcing, and sanitation workers earning less than Rs 25,000 per month. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, CPM state secretary V Srinivasa Rao criticised the exclusion of these workers from the scheme despite promising to cover all individuals with monthly incomes below Rs 25,000 before elections. The letter noted that, marking one year since the coalition governments formation, the Talliki Vandanam scheme has credited Rs 13,000 to the accounts of many eligible mothers. However, sanitation workers, promised inclusion in the schemes guidelines, are being denied benefits due to technical issues with the application process, he added. Additionally, contract and outsourcing employees, scheme workers, municipal workers, and others classified as government employees have been excluded, despite many earning as little as Rs 10,000 or less per month. The CPM leader also urged the TDP-led NDA government to remove this criterion and include all individuals earning less than Rs 20,000 in rural and Rs 25,000 in urban areas under the scheme.

Speaking at a virtual meeting with NRI Jana Sainiks and Veera Mahilas from Perth, Australia, Nagababu thanked the expatriate supporters for their continued financial and moral backing of the party. The general perception is that nuclear means explosive, but nuclear energy is also clean, efficient, and beneficial in many ways. Midhuns bail plea adjourned in liquor case
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing on Rajampet MP PV Midhun Reddys anticipatory bail plea in the liquor policy case to Wednesday after extensive arguments. Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, representing the CID, alleged that Midhun Reddy played a crucial role in the liquor policys formulation and execution. He claimed liquor orders were selectively awarded to companies that paid kickbacks, leading to a Rs 3,500 crore loss. Statements from accused and witnesses reportedly support these claims. Conversely, Midhun Reddys counsel, senior advocate T Niranjan Reddy, argued that the MP was falsely implicated due to political vendetta and pointed out inconsistencies in the CIDs investigation. He claimed key accused were being shielded and cited past rulings protecting other leaders, demanding similar protection for Midhun Reddy.
Andhra HC seeks details in case against Sajjala
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed the police to submit complete details regarding the case filed against YSRCP senior leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy over his remarks on the Amaravati capital issue. Justice T Mallikarjuna Rao issued the orders, adjourning the hearing on Sajjalas anticipatory bail plea to June 18. During the hearing, Sajjalas counsel, S Dushyant Reddy, argued that the Tadepalli police had registered a case based on a complaint by K Sireesha. This, he contended, was despite the High Courts earlier interim orders restraining harsh actions against Sajjala following a separate complaint by the Deputy Speaker to the DGP. He alleged that the new complaint was an attempt to circumvent the HCs existing interim orders. Public Prosecutor M Lakshminarayana informed the court that no case had been registered against Sajjala so far. After hearing arguments, the court adjourned the hearing to June 18.

Andhra government junior college students to get free study material, JEE coaching
VIJAYAWADA: The state government, spearheaded by HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, has launched a large-scale initiative to provide free JEE and NEET coaching to over 1,00,000 students across 1,355 government junior colleges as part of a major educational reform. This unprecedented program aims to bridge socioeconomic gaps and elevate rural talent to national level. Under the Andhra Pradesh Model of Education, students in the MPC and BiPC streams will benefit from expertly curated Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics materials. These were developed over six months through collaboration between leading educators from government and private colleges. Additionally, daily college hours have been extended from 9:00am to 5:00pm, including two dedicated hours specifically for entrance exam preparation. Junior lecturers have been trained to deliver the new content effectively, while structured weekly tests, performance reviews, and academic tracking ensure the implementation of best practices typically seen in elite coaching institutions. This marks the first time such high-level, systematized support has been provided by any government in the country. This initiative gives every student in the state a fair chance to dream big and achieve bigger things, Minister Lokesh said at the launch, asserting that quality education is a fundamental right, not a privilege. He noted that by offering extended hours, quality content, and academic rigour, the state is levelling the playing field and enabling students from modest backgrounds to compete with their peers in private institutions. We are creating an environment where every child in the state can dream big and prepare confidently for JEE, NEET, and other national-level exams. Our mission is simple, to give every student the confidence, tools, and platform to dream big and achieve bigger, added Minister Nara Lokesh. Sharing his enthusiasm, Srinivas, a first-year MPC student at the Government Junior College in Bantumilli, Krishna district said, This coaching feels like a game-changer. Earlier, we had to rely on private classes we couldnt afford. Now, with free material and focused coaching during college hours, I feel more confident preparing for JEE. Swachh Andhra Corp chief Pattabhiram slams Jagan over Amma Vodi fund cut
VIJAYAWADA: Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram launched a strong attack on former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of drastically slashing funds under the Amma Vodi scheme and misleading the public with inflated promises. Speaking at the TDP national office on Sunday, Pattabhiram said that while Jagan had promised to allocate Rs 50,000 crore over five years, only Rs 23,877 crore was released. He slashed Rs 2,178 crore citing maintenance and reduced the number of beneficiaries year after year, he said, noting a drop from 44.4 lakh students in 2021 to 42.6 lakh in 2023. Pattabhiram contrasted this with the NDA governments newly launched Taliku Vandanam scheme, inaugurated by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on June 12. He said the scheme has already disbursed Rs 10,090 crore Rs 8,745 crore directly to mothers accounts and Rs 1,345 crore towards school infrastructure covering 67.27 lakh students, nearly 25 lakh more than Jagans final Amma Vodi phase. Refuting allegations that school development funds were diverted to Nara Lokeshs account, Pattabhiram challenged critics to prove their claims. If they cant, they must apologize or face legal action, he said.
YSRCP incited violence at Podili, alleges Andhra Min Kolusu
VIJAYAWADA: Minister for Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathi strongly criticised the YSRCP for allegedly inciting violence during a protest in Podili , accusing the party of undermining peace and disrespecting women . Addressing a press conference at the TDP central office on Sunday, he expressed outrage over reports of stones and slippers being thrown at women and police during a demonstration against the derogatory remarks made on a vernacular TV channel supporting the YSRCP. Parthasarathi questioned the intentions behind YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddys visit to Podili, where he claimed to support tobacco farmers. He pointed to banners with provocative slogans like Come anyone, well crush you, suggesting the rally was more about creating chaos than addressing farmers issues. In a democracy, is this how protests are held? he asked, alleging that the YSRCP orchestrated violence by engaging rowdies to disrupt the law and order. He accused the YSRCP of neglecting farmers genuine concerns, such as fair prices for tobacco and cocoa, and instead resorting to destructive tactics. He urged Jagan to raise public issues in the Assembly rather than boycotting it for personal ambitions. A responsible opposition engages in constructive debate, not vandalism, he said, noting that the coalition government has prioritised farmers welfare.

Fishermen resume operations as 61-day ban ends in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: With the lifting of the 61-day annual fishing ban at midnight on June 14, fishermen across Krishna district resumed operations on Sunday morning, bringing back boats to sea in anticipation of a good fishing season. The ban, enforced under the Andhra Pradesh Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1994, aims to conserve fish and shrimp during the breeding season and is lifted annually in mid-June. According to the Fisheries Department, all 23 fish landing points including the Gilakaladindi Fishing Harbour in Kruthivennu, Machilipatnam, Koduru, and Nagayalanka mandals have come alive with activity. Scenes of fish sales, marine species packaging, and eager seafood lovers marked the post-ban resumption. However, despite the ban being lifted, not all boats ventured out immediately. Many fishermen are waiting for an auspicious time (Muhurtham) to begin operations, a tradition that involves performing special poojas to ensure a successful catch. Only a few boats set sail on Sunday; the rest are expected to resume operations in the coming days. The district has a total of 2,270 active boats 2,131 motorised, 73 non-motorised, and 66 mechanised with around 13,789 fishermen currently active. Andhra Pradesh fishermen return to sea as annual ban ends Fishermen and their families expressed relief and happiness after enduring financial hardships during the two-month ban. Kokiligadda Nancharayya, a fisherman from Tallapalem, said he expects a productive season and plans to fish four days a week, earning up to Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 weekly if the catch is good. He plans to set out in the coming days. To support the fishing community during the ban, the State government disbursed financial aid of Rs 20,000 per eligible fisherman under the Matsyakara Bharosa scheme. The scheme, launched by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Srikakulam during the third week of April, benefited 13,177 fishermen in Krishna district. The amount was credited directly to their accounts. Speaking to TNIE , Krishna district Joint Director of Fisheries A Naga Raja confirmed all eligible fishermen received aid. For those with mismatched bank or IFSC details, the amount has also been credited after correction, he said. He said the government is extending support, including a fuel subsidy of Rs 9 per litre up to 300 litres for motorised boats and 3,000 litres for mechanised boats. The Fisheries Department has also issued safety and protection guidelines to fishermen as they return to sea.

Jagan Mohan Reddy blames CM Naidu for stone-pelting incident
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP President and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu of deliberately provoking people against his visit to Podili in Prakasam district. I visited Podili in Prakasam Dist. to meet distressed Tobacco farmers and offer them support, as they have been denied fair prices. Over 40,000 farmers and locals joined me in solidarity. To divert attention from the issue at hand, Chandrababu Naidu connived to send about 40 TDP workers to disrupt the meeting and provoke violence by pelting stones along our route. Thankfully, the farmers and public showed great restraint and did not retaliate against the acute assaults by TDP goons, Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote on the social media platform X. Questioning the coalition governments priorities, Jagan demanded to know who would be responsible if the large crowd had reacted to the provocation. Instead of addressing the farmers woes, he alleged that Naidus administration filed false cases against them, branding them as rowdies. While farmers are in distress and committing suicides, you are brazenly calling for one year celebrations of your ruinous rule, like Nero was fiddling while Rome was burning down to ashes. Besides, you created a violent situation that could have been devastating given the huge number of people that were present. I condemn these despicable acts in the strictest manner and urge you to help the farmers, Jagan posted.
Andhra govt fulfilled 85% of poll promises: Kolusu Parthasarathy
VIJAYAWADA: The coalition government has fulfilled 85 per cent of its Super Six promises within one year after assuming office, Housing, Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy asserted, adding that the government is moving ahead by balancing both welfare and development, like two eyes. Speaking to media personnel on Saturday, the minister asserted that despite being burdened with Rs 10 lakh crore debt left by the previous YSRCP government, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh implemented 85 per cent of the election promises, calling it a testament to their sincerity. Describing the creation of 20 lakh jobs as the remaining 15 per cent, he emphasised that the TDP-led NDA government is striving towards that target as part of the Swarnandhra Vision 2047. The previous government gave the incentive to one child per family, but as promised, our government is providing benefits to all school-going children under the Talliki Vandanam scheme. The amount will be deposited in the next two days, he said. Kolusu announced that the promised financial assistance to farmers under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme will also be provided within this month. On the occasion, the minister asserted that the State has received several lakh crores of investments and created about 8 lakh job opportunities so far. The government has prioritised welfare by giving more monetary benefits. The previous government has provided an average of Rs 30,000 to each family, while the coalition government has already provided Rs 1.04 lakh to each family through Super Six per annum, Kolusu claimed. Several measures have been taken to ensure quality education for children. The Super Six promises announced by Minister Nara Lokesh are being implemented. There is no truth in the allegation that people are being harassed with police cases, as it was in the previous government, he said. Recalling the dire situation of investors during the previous regime, Kolusu reminded that many firms fled to neighbouring states due to the hardships created by the YSRCP dispensation.

SC order over journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao case a slap on the face of CM Naidu: Jagan
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Supreme Courts directive to immediately release senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao was a resounding slap on the face of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has been functioning in an authoritarian and undemocratic manner. The apex court rightly observed that the arrest was a serious violation of fundamental rights, and freedom of expression, he said. At a time when serious public scrutiny is building around massive corruption in the name of Amaravati, failed governance, and deteriorating law and order, Chandrababu created a false controversy with his so-called yellow gang to divert public attention. By falsely attributing comments to Kommineni garu and launching a targeted campaign of misinformation and violence, including orchestrated attacks on Sakshi media offices, Chandrababu trampled on media freedom and democracy, Jagan posted on X on Friday. Jagan said even after the Supreme Courts directive, Naidu continued to blame the YSRCP and Sakshi, exposing his political agenda. The apex courts order has shattered this conspiracy, reminding the nation once again that truth will prevail, he added.
Take NDA government achievements to people from June 23: CM Chandrababu Naidu
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the party rank and file to actively participate in the month-long door-to-door campaign from June 23 to explain the development programmes and welfare schemes implemented by the coalition government in its first year rule as part of the First Step in Good Governance initiative. We have fulfilled our promise by implementing the Talliki Vandanam scheme. We made it clear that the scheme will be implemented without any cap on the number of school going children in a family. We have delivered that promise, the TDP supremo said. Though we planned to organise the First Step in Good Governance programme with MLAs, MPs, and officials on June 12, it was cancelled due to the plane crash in Ahmedabad, he said. Holding a teleconference with TDP MLAs, MPs, leaders and activists on Friday, Naidu asserted that from leaders to grassroots workers should participate in the campaign highlighting the achievements of NDA government. Besides highlighting our first-year achievements, we should counter false propaganda of opposition. Unable to digest our success, the opposition has resorted to attacks and insulted women, Naidu said. Suggesting the cadre not to be complacent just because of the success of Mahanadu, he ordered the constitution of party organisational committees to provide opportunities to the hardworking activists. Opinions of all should be considered while constituting the TDP committees, he said. Making it clear that posts will be given to only those functioning as Kutumba Sadhikara Saradhi, he said the party activists should always be dynamic. Announcing that training camps will be organised for activists, and leaders from July, Naidu asserted that activists will be elevated as leaders. Recalling that activists sweated it out when the party was not in power, he directed the MLAs to dedicate some time to party activities on a regular basis, and mingle with people. Recalling that party cadre and leaders promoted Super Six, the NDA manifesto, and Babu Surety - Bhavishyathuku Guarantee before the elections, the Chief Minister said the coalition government is now implementing all of them. Despite financial constraints, key schemes are being implemented within the first year. The previous government pushed the State into a debt trap with reckless borrowings. We have released Rs 10,000 crore for the Talliki Vandanam scheme benefiting 67.27 lakh students. Each mother receives Rs 13,000 for every school going child, and Rs 2,000 has been earmarked for school development. We said the scheme would be implemented before the reopening of schools, and we have done it, Naidu said. He explained that the beneficiaries include 18,55,760 mothers with one child, 14,55,322 with two children, 2,10,684 with three children and 20,053 with four children. While the previous government extended this benefit to only 42 lakh children, our government is covering 25 lakh more. Similarly, while Rs 5,540 crore was spent by the previous government, we are spending Rs 8,747 crore on it per annum, which is Rs 3,205 crore more, he highlighted. Parents have expressed happiness over the release of Talliki Vandanam funds. This is historic. Such a massive amount has never been released for a single scheme at once earlier, he said. Despite such efforts, some people are still criticising the NDA government. We are implementing the Talliki Vandanam scheme in a better way without changing any guidelines, he asserted. Under NTR Bharosa, we are providing pensions worth Rs 34,000 crore annually. Through Anna Canteens, four crore meals have been served. For farmers welfare, we are launching the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme on June 20, as promised in our election manifesto. Thus, we are implementing two important schemes of Super Six in the same month, the Chief Minister said. Mentioning that the government is promoting initiatives like yoga, while implementing welfare and development schemes, Naidu said Yogandhra programme is being organised across the State in a big way. International Yoga Day will be observed in Visakhapatnam with a record participation of five lakh people. The goal is to involve two crore people across the State. Already, 2.21 crore people have been registered. Participants who join yoga for three days will receive a certificate. Yoga must become a part of life. This movement aims to build a healthy, wealthy, and happy society. This is a collective movement to place Andhra Pradesh on the global map, the Chief Minister highlighted, adding that preparatory events for Yoga Day will be held at one lakh locations tomorrow.

YSRCP book exposes NDA governments betrayal of promises
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, alongside senior leaders, released a book documenting the failures of the TDP-led NDA government in the past one year at the party central office in Tadepalli on Thursday. Speaking to the media, Sajjala accused the coalition government of pushing the State into dark days through broken promises, oppressive governance, and systematic destruction. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidus rule stands for deceit, while YS Jagan Mohan Reddys legacy represents trust, Sajjala said, contrasting the current administration with the YSRCPs governance, which he said laid the foundation for a golden future. The YSRCP termed the NDAs one year rule a betrayal of Andhra Pradeshs five crore people. The book exposes the one year misrule of NDA, from stifling dissent with Red Book Constitution to filing false cases through misuse of police, fostering corruption, and dismantling the progress achieved during the previous YSRCP regime. Sajjala highlighted that 1.3 lakh government jobs were created, 17 new medical colleges and four ports were taken up during the previous regime, and the systemic reforms and achievements during 2019-24 were unmatched in the States history.

Vizag sewerage project cost revised to Rs 452 crore
VIJAYAWADA: The State government has issued a revised administrative sanction of Rs 452.46 crore to the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL) for the implementation of an integrated sewage collection and conveyance system, along with a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), in Pendurthi of Visakhapatnam district. The project includes Recycled Sewage Gravity Flow (RSGF), Tertiary Treatment, and comprehensive Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services for 15 years. Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) S Suresh Kumar said the initiative marks a critical step in enhancing urban sanitation infrastructure and promoting the sustainable reuse of treated wastewater in the rapidly growing city. Taken up jointly by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and GVSCCL, the project aims to establish an underground drainage network for around 12,000 houses, ensuring the safe collection, treatment and disposal of sewage. Initially awarded to Tata Projects Ltd in 2018 with a stipulated completion period of 2 years and 5 months, the original deadline of April 23, 2021, was extended due to various unforeseen delays. The latest extension of time (EoT) now allows project completion by July 31, 2025, with work nearing completion. Several technical changes became necessary during execution, such as constructing a fourth aeration tank at Narava STP, enhancing the flash mixer feed sump capacity, and undertaking dust-filling works along the BRTS road, and Chinthala Agraharam. The original project cost was Rs 412 crore. However, due to rising input costs, interest during construction, and an increase in GST from 12% to 18%, the project saw a cost overrun. GVSCCL requested an additional Rs 40.46 crore, which the government approved, including a supplementary contribution from the GVMC. It ensures the timely delivery of this vital infrastructure project.

The School Education Department and the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) are currently collecting Aadhaar-linked student and parent data. This data is being cross-verified with Civil Supplies and other government databases to eliminate duplications and ensure accurate mapping. The Finance, GSWS, and Welfare Departments will jointly oversee implementation through APCFSS with proper DBT and NPCI protocols. A grievance redressal mechanism will operate at the village and ward secretariat level to handle appeals from ineligible households.

Of the 67.27 lakh beneficiaries, 29.82 lakh are BCs, 11.76 lakh SCs, 4.26 lakh STs, 66,500 minorities, and 8.44 lakh EBC students. There are 18,55,760 families with one child, 29,10,644 with two children, 6,32,052 with three, and 80,212 mothers with four children. Across South India, the population is declining. Once, families with more than two children were disqualified from contesting in local body elections. Now, the time has come to disqualify those with fewer than two children, Naidu said in a lighter vein. Asserting that welfare and development are the two pillars of the NDA government, the Chief Minister said that the administration is generating revenue, increasing income, and reinvesting it into development and welfare. Many had apprehensions about the states revival, especially regarding finances. But we stood firm and have put the state economy back on track, the CM said. Announcing that the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme will be launched on June 20, Naidu said farmers will receive a total of Rs 20,000 in aid, including Rs 6,000 from the Centre. The previous government gave only Rs 7,500, whereas we are giving Rs 6,500 more, he said. Under the Deepam scheme, women are receiving three free LPG cylinders. They claimed pensions couldnt be distributed without volunteers. We are now delivering pensions with dignity, going door to door on the 1st of every month. Is any other state in India offering such high pensions? he asked. Taking serious exception to the attempts made by the YSRCP to create law and order issues, Naidu said, I will not sit idle if public safety or law and order is threatened, The YSRCP destroyed the state. Now, seeing the development and welfare measures being implemented by the coalition government, they are conspiring to disrupt the state. They even called Amaravati, the City of the Gods, a city of prostitutes. I will not compromise on public safety, Naidu said while mentioning about the recent incidents in Tenali and Podili. Lokesh said that a double-engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and CM Naidu in the State is giving equal priority to welfare and development.

Seaplane operations are expected to begin after September, he added.
No way connected to liquor policy: MP Mithun Reddy
VIJAYAWADA: Rajampet MP PV Mithun Reddy on Wednesday informed the Andhra Pradesh High Court that he had nothing to do with the liquor policy, which was formulated and implemented during the previous YSRCP regime. Filing counter to ACBs petition pertaining to his anticipatory bail petition, Mithun Reddy also informed the court that any decision or policy matters are within the purview of the Cabinet, and alleged that the investigating agency, which is well aware of the facts, repeatedly describing him as the mastermind behind the liquor scam. He further requested the court to direct the investigation agency to furnish evidence to support its claims. In his petition, he also alleged that the State government resorted to vindictive politics, and the investigation agency was misleading the judiciary with baseless allegations. It is during the tenure of TDP government when the actual scam happened. The responsibility of liquor supply was handed over to select companies, which granted several undue benefits to TDP leaders. Though sales increased during 2014-19, the revenue was less. However, revenue through liquor sales increased during the YSRCP regime, the MP said.

VIJAYAWADA: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has registered a case against Sakshi TV following a complaint from TDP MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu. On June 8, MP Devarayalu submitted a petition urging the NHRC to take suo motu cognisance and initiate action against Sakshi TV. He alleged that the channel aired content that insulted women, referring to them as belonging to the capital of prostitutes. In his complaint, Devarayalu requested NHRC Chairperson V Ramasubramanian to recommend criminal proceedings against Sakshi TV under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for insulting the modesty of women. CM Naidu indulged in diversionary tactics: MLC Varudu Kalyani VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani lambasted the TDP-led NDA government for using women as pawns in its diversionary tactics. Speaking to the media at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli on Wednesday, she condemned the TDP for orchestrating attacks on Sakshi media offices by inciting women to divert public attention from the governments failures. It is utterly disgraceful that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stooped to such low, using women to shield his administrations incompetence, she said. The TDP is attempting to falsely put the blame on the YSRCP to further its malicious agenda. This is not just an attack on the media, it is an assault on truth and democracy. The coalition government is desperate to silence voices that expose its failures, the YSRCP womens wing president said, emphasising that such conspiracies will not suppress the peoples demand for transparency and accountability.

The funding comprises Rs 778.68 crore from the State and Rs 175.03 crore from the Centre. Following the directive of HRD and IT Minister N Lokesh, each student will receive a kit worth Rs 2,279. The kit includes three pairs of uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, workbooks, a school bag, belt, shoes, two pairs of socks, and dictionariesan Oxford English-English-Telugu version for Class VI students and a pictorial dictionary for Class I. Notably, this years scheme also covers textbook and notebook supply for intermediate students in government colleges. In a move towards uniformity, all students will receive olive green pants or gowns paired with green-striped, light yellow shirts, eliminating gender-specific and politically branded attire. The government has ensured that no political symbols, colours, or leaders photos appear on the kits. For the first time, the SRKVM scheme will include dictionaries in Tamil, Odia, and Urdu. One year of Naidu govt in Andhra Pradesh: Impressive welfare amid concerns
VIJAYAWADA: The TDP-led NDA, which not only achieved a 93% strike rate in the 2024 elections but also saw alliance candidates winning by huge margins against the YSRCP, is set to complete its first year in office on June 12, following the formation of the coalition government. Going by the mandate, it is clear that the people had high expectations from the new government. But has it succeeded in fulfilling those aspirations? Given the precarious financial situation the coalition inherited at the outset, it must be acknowledged that fulfilling all promises within a year was no easy task. However, the government, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, did manage to increase pensions from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 in its first month in office, in addition to paying Rs 3,000 in arrears to each beneficiary. Similarly, under Deepam-2 scheme, the government began delivering three free LPG cylinders annually to women. Alongside the re-establishment of Anna Canteens to feed the poor, financial aid to fishermen during the fishing ban period was enhanced to Rs 20,000 from Rs 10,000 under the Mathsyakara Bharosa scheme. The State government has also issued orders for the implementation of another flagship scheme, Talliki Vandanam, under which Rs 15,000 will be credited to the accounts of mothers of school-going children starting June 12, 2025. Additionally, the State government has announced that free bus travel scheme for the women will also be implement from August 15 onwards. People recognised NDA govts sincere efforts in delivering welfare schemes Beyond welfare schemes, the government is actively working on rebuilding Amaravati, expediting the Polavaram project, attracting investments, initiating infrastructure development, restoring Centrally Sponsored Schemes, and launching several technological and sectoral initiatives. As promised, it has also issued a DSC notification to recruit 16,347 teachers and is taking steps toward its commitment to create 20 lakh jobs during its five-year tenure. As a key ally in the BJP-led NDA at the Centre, the State government has succeeded in garnering Union government support, a fact often acknowledged by the Chief Minister, who remarked that the Centre provided oxygen and brought the State out of the ventilator. Though the government had announced the implementation of the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme-which promises Rs 20,000 per year to farmers, including Rs 6,000 in Central assistance-in June, the lack of a clear roadmap for other promises such as the Rs 3,000 monthly allowance to unemployed youth and Rs 1,500 per month to women is somewhat disappointing. In fact, people have recognised the NDA governments sincere efforts in delivering welfare schemes and prioritising development. However, our internal surveys suggest that there is dissatisfaction among the public, especially regarding the performance and high-handedness of some MLAs. Having completed just one year in office, this is a matter of concern. The Chief Minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has warned that he is prepared to part ways with leaders who damage the reputation of the party and the government. Naidu will soon hold one-on-one meetings with the MLAs, share the feedback he has received from various sources, and issue a stern warning, a senior TDP leader told TNIE .

Journalist Kommineni sent to 14-day remand
GUNTUR: The Mangalagiri Court on Tuesday remanded journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with a case over objectionable remarks made about women from the Amaravati region. He was shifted to Guntur district jail and will remain in remand till June 24. However, the court struck down charges filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Section 356(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), stating that the allegations lacked sufficient grounds for prosecution. Srinivasarao was arrested by Tulluru police in Hyderabad on Monday and brought to Nallapadu police station in Guntur via Vijayawada. Before being produced in court, he underwent a medical check-up at Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH), where doctors diagnosed a urinary tract infection. Other health parameters, including heart and sugar levels, were found to be normal. The case stems from a controversial television debate where journalist Krishnam Raju described Amaravati as a capital of prostitutes instead of a capital of goddesses. Srinivasarao, rather than denouncing the remarks, reportedly endorsed them by citing similar views and suggesting that such statements attract online abuse, according to the complaint. The remarks provoked widespread outrage from womens groups, civil society members, and Dalit organisations across Andhra Pradesh, leading to multiple complaints at police stations. While Srinivasarao was promptly arrested, Krishnam Raju is reportedly absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him. Given the heightened public emotions, particularly among women and Dalit communities in Amaravati, police arranged tight security during Srinivasaraos court appearance. Escort vehicles were flanked by additional convoy vehicles as a precautionary measure.

Early water release for Krishna delta
VIJAYAWADA: In a major relief to Krishna Delta farmers, the AP Water Resources Department is set to release irrigation water from the Prakasam Barrage earlier than usual this year. To mitigate crop damage due to cyclonic rains and to facilitate timely agricultural operations, authorities plan to begin water discharge by June 20, nearly three weeks earlier than last years July 10 release. Superintending Engineer of Krishna District Irrigation Department, Mohana Krishna, told TNIE that following internal meetings and stakeholder consultations, June 20 has been confirmed as the tentative release date. Initially, we aimed for the first week of June, but farmers requested a delay due to ongoing Operation and Maintenance (O&M) works on the canals. After evaluating all aspects, we are now targeting June 20 for water release to the Krishna Delta, he said. The third week of June is traditionally considered ideal for water release, aligning with Eruvaka Pournami on June 11, when farmers begin sowing. Most farmers initially depend on rainwater and then require canal water for plant growth, especially for paddy, the regions dominant crop. The Krishna Delta spans 13.6 lakh acres across Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari, and Prakasam districts, with paddy cultivated in about 10 lakh acres. The region supports commercial crops and aquaculture. To meet all irrigation requirements, 150 TMC of water is required annually. Authorities generally release 90 TMC during Kharif and the remaining during Rabi. Last year, a total of 175.35 TMC was released for both seasons. Officials are considering supplementary measures such as releasing water from the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme. Currently, Pulichintala Project holds 21.35 TMC and Prakasam Barrage has 3.07 TMC. If necessary, we will release water from Pattiseema. However, the Godavari water level at Pattiseema is presently 13.6 meters, just below the 14-meter mark required for lifting. We anticipate reaching this level by the end of the month, said Ravi, Executive Engineer, KC Division. He added that in the event of delays from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs, Pattiseema will serve as a backup to ensure no disruption in irrigation. Typically, water for early Kharif is sourced from Pulichintala and Prakasam Barrage. Authorities are hopeful that favourable monsoon conditions will allow seamless operations. The proactive planning aims to safeguard crop yields and help farmers complete sowing well in time, avoiding losses due to potential weather disturbances later in the season.

Advance Kharif to protect crops: Andhra CM
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials of agriculture department to advance the crop season to protect Kharif crops from cyclones. Holding a review meeting with the officials at his camp office in Undavalli on Tuesday, he emphasised that farmland should remain green throughout the year with the three-crop pattern. He ordered cultivation of summer crops in five lakh acres across North Coastal Andhra, Godavari and Krishna delta regions next year. In districts like Anantapur, land remains fallow for eight months in a year, leading to soil nutrient depletion. Naidu stressed the need to utilise these eight months for raising additional crops. He directed the officials to prepare farmers of 141 mandals where water resources are available for summer farming 19 with reservoirs, 57 with tanks, and 65 on groundwater. Fine varieties of paddy that are in high demand should be cultivated, he said. To improve the income of paddy farmers, Naidu proposed inter-cropping fruits and vegetables on widened bunds of fields. An awareness should be created among farmers about the benefits of wider bunds. NREGS funds can be utilised to build bunds if needed. Aquaculture and horticulture on the peripheries or in between paddy fields need to be experimented, he said. The officials informed him that HD Burley tobacco procurement has begun at Parchur AMC. Alternative crop cultivation is being encouraged in place of HD Burley, they said. Naidu also enquired about the procurement of cocoa and mango. They informed him that three new agriculture-related services have been launched on WhatsApp Governance - Mana Mitra platform. They include crop insurance, agricultural mechanisation, and MARKFED services. Farmers can now access these through WhatsApp. We should reduce the use of fertilisers and pesticides to preserve soil fertility. Ensure there is no shortage of fertilisers anywhere. Stay updated with real-time data on fertiliser and pesticide use. Last year, 39 lakh tonnes of fertilisers were used in the State. This year, we should bring that down to 35 lakh tonnes. Pulses and millet cultivation should be increased. Banks should provide loans to farmers within 24 hours of request, he said. The officials informed that paddy, red gram, groundnut, and cotton are the primary crops in Kharif season.
