Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan advocates for multilingual unity in India at JSP event
VIJAYAWADA: Jana Sena Party (JSP) supremo and Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan urged Tamil leaders not to dub Tamil films into Hindi just to earn revenue from Hindi-speaking states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. You need money and workforce from Hindi-speaking states but oppose Hindi itself. That is not acceptable. All languages are essential for communication and fostering brotherhood, he stated, adding, Not just for Tamil Nadu, but for the country, we need multiple languages not only for national integrity but also to understand one another and to share love. Multiple languages are good for India. Addressing a massive gathering at the grand event Jaya Ketanam, marking JSPs 12th Foundation Day on Friday in Chitrada village of Pithapuram Assembly constituency, Pawan Kalyan delivered an impassioned speech, inspiring the youth and reaffirming his commitment to the nation. I am ready to die for my country, he declared. Clarifying misconceptions about his political ideology, he stated, Some say I am confused regarding my ideology. I was inspired by Che Guevara for his humanitarian values, but I have followed Sanatana Dharma since childhood. My home has always echoed with the name of Lord Sri Ram. He explained that his partys ideology was shaped by the speeches of seven influential leaders from around the world. Emphasising national unity, he asserted that there should be no divide between North and South India. We must instil patriotism in the youth. My vision is to nurture 100 young leaders from each village so that by 2047, they can guide the country in the right direction. The actor-turned-politician criticised pseudo-secularism, advocating instead for true secularism. Secularism should be practised in its true spirit, not for convenient vote-bank politics. Condemning attacks on Hindu traditions, he questioned, If idols of Lord Sri Ram are beheaded, Hindu gods are mocked with vulgar language, and deities like Goddess Lakshmi and Bathukamma are insulted, why is no one allowed to question it? But if a deity from another religion is insulted, secularism suddenly becomes an issue. This hypocrisy is unacceptable. He alleged that a leader from Old City (Hyderabad) had once incited violence by asking police to blindfold themselves for 15 minutes to target Hindus. Hindus are expected to stay silent, fearing these pseudo-secularists. I am not afraid. I will question anyone who attacks Sanatana Dharma while respecting all religions, he affirmed.

AP High Court halts government action on Hayagreeva Farms land for four weeks
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed the state government to maintain the status quo on the lands resumed from Hayagreeva Farms and Developers for the next four weeks. This order follows a petition filed by the company on Wednesday, challenging the cancellation of 12.5 acres of land allotted to it by the government. The government had requested an adjournment for Thursdays hearing. During the hearing before Justice TCD Sekhar, Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas argued that the government had adhered to the courts division bench orders. He stated that a showcause notice was served to Hayagreeva Farms, and an explanation was received before further proceedings were initiated. The Advocate General explained that the company had acquired the land at a low cost, with the commitment to build old-age homes and orphanages, but had violated the terms set by the government. On March 10, the Revenue Department issued a memo cancelling the land allocation, and although the petitioner did not contest the decision in court, a Panchanama was conducted on March 11. However, the petitioner refused to accept the Panchanama report. The High Court has given the government two weeks to file a detailed counter, and the case hearing was adjourned until then.
AP government to revive Vaikuntapuram Barrage, Gundrevula Reservoir projects with revised DPRs
VIJAYAWADA: The coalition government will take up the construction of the Vaikuntapuram Barrage near Damuluru and a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) with the latest escalated estimates of Rs 4,000 crore has already been submitted, announced Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu. Replying to the queries raised by legislators in the Assembly on Thursday, the minister elucidated the projects background and significance. The barrage, initially proposed in 2016 by the then-TDP government aimed at ensuring drinking water supply to Amaravati, Guntur and Vijayawada cities, anticipating a population of 35 lakh in Amaravati by 2050. Tenders were invited for the project with an estimate of Rs 2,169 crore and work orders were issued to Navayuga and Venkatrao Infra Construction firms in 2018, Nimmala explained. However, the subsequent YSRCP government abandoned the project as part of its flip-flop on the capital issue. The doubled estimates are the result of the delay caused by the previous government, the minister asserted. He said that the new DPR accounts for increased flood resilience, designed to withstand 15 lakh cusecs of water, based on last years Krishna floods which stood at 11.4 lakh cusecs of water in its peak. Nimmala revealed that the projects multifaceted benefits have already been presented to the Chief Minister, signalling swift action to kickstart construction. Responding to another question raised by MLAs from the Rayalaseema region, particularly the Kurnool and Nandyal districts, the water resources minister announced that the Gundrevula Reservoir Project, aimed at addressing irrigation and drinking water needs of drought-hit western Kurnool district, will be constructed in phases. The project aims to provide irrigation and drinking water to western Kurnool, supply drinking water to the area under Kurnool Municipal Corporation and stabilise 2.65 lakh acres under the KC Canal Ayacut. A revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) with an estimate of Rs 4,530 crore was proposed on December 24, he explained. He informed the members that the project, which is to be built on the Tungabhadra River at Gundrevula, requires the consent of Karnataka and Telangana. Emphasising that he was familiar with the regions struggle for water, Nimmala lambasted former chief minister YS Jagan for neglecting the Gundrevula Project despite calling himself a son of Rayalaseema. Jagan did not even look at the project during his tenure as the chief minister. His misdeeds have spelt curses for us, Nimmala remarked, pointing to Rs 16,000 crore irrigation pending dues.

AP CM Naidu vows to restore Andhras power surplus, boost renewable energy
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday indicated that the agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to procure 7,000 MW solar power for 25 years at Rs 2.49 per unit would be honoured. During a short discussion on the energy sector in the Assembly, Naidu said the SECI agreement became a liability. However, as the deal was signed, any cancellation led to penalties and loss of credibility, yet I wont use these as excuses to evade responsibility. I will ensure the State becomes surplus in power sector by utilising every opportunity available, he said. He elaborated on the cancellation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) during the YSRCP regime, which created distrust among the potential investors at the international level. During 2019-24, the mismanagement pushed the energy sector into crisis. PPAs were cancelled arbitrarily, leading to legal battles. Even at Davos, discussions were held on Andhra Pradeshs policy failures. Due to these wrong decisions, the High Court ordered the government to pay Rs 9,000 crore in penalties. If the previous government had honoured the PPAs, these issues wouldnt have arisen, Naidu said, and added that the ego of a single person cost the State exchequer Rs 9,000 crore. He described the five years under the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government as dark days for the State. He contrasted this with his administrations swift action, claiming that in just nine months since taking office, his government has revitalised the devastated sector. He elaborated on the legacy of power sector reforms under the TDP, which he said pioneered Indias first energy overhaul in 1998, making Andhra Pradesh a power surplus State by 2004. However, he lamented that these gains were undone by subsequent regimes, including a 17.6% power deficit in 2012-13 under Jagans predecessors, far exceeding the national average of 8.7%, the Chief Minister explained. CM vows to lower per unit cost to Rs 4.8 from Rs 5.1 Highlighting his connection to the sector over three decades, Naidu recalled visiting fields during his 2012 padayatra, witnessing farmers struggles with unreliable power and burnt motors due to low voltage. After assuming power in 2014, he ensured 9 hours of daytime power supply to farmers, introduced a transparent spot billing system, and added 7,700 MW through solar and wind energy, achieving a power surplus State by 2018 without tariff hikes. Since announcing the Clean Energy Policy, the TDP-led NDA government has secured Rs 5.19 lakh crore investments through MoUs, and will be creating 3.66 lakh jobs with a goal of Rs 10 lakh crore investments in five years. He also pledged to lower per-unit electricity cost from Rs 5.16 to Rs 4.80, honouring the promise of no tariff increase. Naidu criticised Jagans tenure for nine tariff hikes, inflating power sector debts from Rs 62,826 crore to Rs 1,12,422 crore, and delays in projects like Krishnapatnam Stage-2 and Polavaram Hydro, adding Rs 1,044 crore in costs. Current initiatives include 10,000 rooftop solar installations per constituency under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, 4 lakh solar pump sets under PM-KUSUM, and 5,000 EV charging stations in the State. Additionally, Rs 1.12 lakh crore in renewable energy proposals for 26.26 GW have been received. Naidu vowed to steer Andhra Pradesh towards sustainable energy and economic growth, ensuring past mistakes are not repeated. Earlier, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar told the House that the TDP, under CM Naidu, pioneered Indias electricity reforms with the Electricity Regulatory Commission. He announced a Rs 1.85 lakh crore Green Hydrogen Hub at Pudimadaka, 500 Reliance CBG plants, and a Rs 49,000 crore Tata Renewable Energy deal for 7,000 MW. New initiatives include a battery storage system and 55 substations. The Energy Minister reiterated that there would be no tariff hikes. The short discussion initiated by Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao saw members Prathipati Pulla Rao, BV Jaya Nageswara Reddy, Pulaparthi Anjaneyulu, Vasantha Krishna Prasad, Yarlagadda Venkata Rao, PV Parthasarathi, Kalava Srinivasulu, and others lambasting the previous regime for wayward management of the power sector, and pushing it into distress from a surplus stage.

Minister Satya Prasad announces 98 per cent land resurvey issues resolved
VIJAYAWADA: Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad stated that nearly 98% of the issues that arose during the land resurvey conducted under the previous YSRCP government have been resolved. Addressing members during Question Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday, the minister attributed landowner difficulties to the unscientific implementation of the resurvey, particularly regarding Joint LPMs. To address this, online subdivision services were introduced at village and ward secretariats, with a six-month fee exemption starting January 1, 2025. Boundary corrections are being handled under BSO 34, Para 8. Anagani accused the previous government of cutting the public objection period from 60 days to 21 days and prioritizing displaying photos on passbooks rather than ensuring proper execution, which led to disputes over land areas, boundaries, and classifications. He said the coalition government has since held village meetings to address concerns, receiving 2,79,712 complaints and resolving 2,73,296 (98%) of them. Housing plots for journalists under consideration: Anagani Responding to a separate query regarding the allocation of housing plots for journalists, the minister said the matter is under government review. He noted that the Supreme Court ruled against treating journalists as a special category for subsidised plots. However, under CM N Chandrababu Naidus directives, the government is exploring alternative measures to provide housing titles.
Min Ramanaidu highlights rapid progress of Polavaram project under NDA's double engine government
VIJAYAWADA: Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu credited the rapid progress of the Polavaram Project to the NDAs double-engine government, both at the Centre and in the State. The minister stated that since the coalition government assumed office, Rs 5,052 crore has been received in advance funds for Polavaram. He highlighted that with timely financial support and the Centres cooperation, the project which had previously stalled is now progressing swiftly. In a press release on Wednesday, Ramanaidu expressed gratitude to the Centre for sanctioning advance funds for the project and praised Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his efforts in securing them. Ramanaidu detailed that Polavarams construction is now on track with a fixed timeline, in coordination with firms like Megha Engineering, Bauer, and Afri, alongside experts from the Polavaram Project Authority, Central Water Commission, and state officials. He accused the previous YSRCP government of halting 72% of the works completed between 2014-19, damaging the diaphragm wall, and diverting reimbursement funds meant for the project. Currently, two cutters are being used to rebuild the diaphragm wall, with 136 metres completed and 6,700 square metres of de-wall work finished. A third cutter is expected to arrive by early April. He noted that the upper cofferdam is being strengthened with a buttress dam, progressing rapidly, while vibro-compaction for the clay to reach the diaphragm wall has also begun. The diaphragm wall is set for completion by December 2025, while the ECRF dam and remaining works are targeted for completion by December 2027, he confirmed. Additionally, under Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidus direction, Rs 990 crore was deposited directly into the accounts of displaced persons after a seven-year delay, enabling them to celebrate Sankranti this year, Ramanaidu added.
Jagan says YSRCP is voice of voiceless, slams TDP govt over pending dues
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reaffirmed the partys commitment to being the voice of the voiceless during its Formation Day celebrations at the party office on Wednesday. Jagan emphasised that the party, born from struggle, has been fighting injustice for 15 years, including 10 years in opposition. He criticised the coalition government for failing to address key issues, particularly the delay in clearing fee reimbursement dues, which he said is causing hardships for students. He lauded the success of the Yuvatha Poru agitation, claiming that youth, students, and party cadres had successfully overcome obstacles to send a strong warning to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. In a post on X, Jagan condemned what he described as police highhandedness during the agitation, warning that such actions signalled growing trouble for the coalition government. Accusing the coalition of neglecting Rs 7,100 crore in Vidya Deevena and Vidya Vasathi dues, Jagan claimed that only Rs 2,600 crore had been allocated, jeopardising students futures. He further accused the coalition of failing farmers, women, and youth by not fulfilling its Super Six promises, which he claimed had led to setbacks in education, health, agriculture, and governance over the past 10 months. Earlier, Jagan paid floral tributes to his father, the late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and hoisted the party flag. On social media platform X, he credited the YSRCP cadre for the partys 15-year journey, rooted in his fathers welfare agenda. Invitation to the all-party meeting in Chennai Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works EV Velu and Rajya Sabha MP Wilson met Jagan and invited him to attend the South India All-Party Leaders Meeting in Chennai on March 22.
Womens rights and safety our top priority: CM Chandrababu Naidu
VIJAYAWADA: Asserting that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has been at the forefront of womens empowerment, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu credited party founder and former chief minister NT Rama Rao for granting women equal property rights. Participating in a short discussion on womens empowerment in the Assembly on Wednesday, Naidu highlighted various initiatives introduced by TDP governments over the years to support women. He also took a dig at YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, claiming that the previous chief minister had denied property rights to his mother and sister. In 1986, NTR granted property rights to women, and in 2005, the Centre enacted it as law. Yet, the former chief minister failed to provide property shares to his mother or sister. How can someone who denied his own family their rightful inheritance speak about womens rights? Leadership requires setting an example and being accountable to the people, Naidu asserted. Emphasising TDPs long-standing commitment to womens empowerment, the Chief Minister said sustainable development is possible only when women are empowered. Despite years of independence and global progress, discrimination against women persists. Even in developed nations like the United States, gender equality remains a challenge, he observed. Naidu stressed that both the NDA government at the Centre, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh are prioritising womens welfare. Empowerment is key to progress. NTR introduced several welfare schemes for women, and we have always ensured they remain central to our policies. True equality means granting women not only equal rights but also economic and social upliftment, Naidu affirmed. He highlighted initiatives promoting girls education, such as providing free bicycles for students from Class 8 to 10 and establishing schools. He also noted that Prathibha Bharathi was appointed Assembly Speaker to ensure womens representation. Today, both Indias President and Finance Minister are women. In our government, we have three female ministers and 21 women MLAs. A Dalit woman is going to be an MLC soon. The Womens Reservation Bill, once implemented, will ensure 75 women MLAs in the Assembly, he added. Naidu recalled that in 1983, NTR established Padmavathi Womens University to promote education for women. TDP also ensured primary schools every 1 km, upper primary schools every 3 km, high schools every 5 km, junior colleges in every mandal, and engineering and medical colleges in every district. When I became chief minister in 1995, I introduced 33% reservation for women in education, employment, and politics. Many criticised this decision, but it has enabled women to excel in all fields today. Previously, dowry was a major issue, but now, the trend has reversed, and families are giving dowry to well-educated women, Naidu said. He cited the example of Surya Kumari, who became a Group 1 officer due to womens reservation policies and now plays a key role in policy-making as Secretary of Women and Child Welfare. Naidu also highlighted TDP-led schemes such as Thalli Bidda Express, NTR Baby Kits, Thalliki Vandanam, Anna Amrutha Hastam, Bal Amrutham, Balikala Raksha, Pellikanuka, community weddings, free health check-ups for women, and improved sanitation facilities to ensure their dignity and safety. Informing the House that 7,338 self-help groups (SHGs) and 18 urban federations were formed in the past nine months, the Chief Minister revealed the government disbursed Rs 4,217 crore in Stree Nidhi loans to 4.91 lakh DWCRA groups. Through bank linkages, loans worth Rs 1.33 lakh crore were facilitated for 51 lakh women. Additionally, Rs 238 crore in interest-free loans was provided to SC/ST women, along with Rs 235 crore for women street vendors. We introduced the Shakti App with 13 safety features and established 164 Shakti teams. Andhra Pradesh will become a drug-free State. Protecting womens rights, dignity, and safety is our top priority. No matter where a woman lives, we will ensure she can work and live with dignity. Any threats to women, whether online or offline, will be dealt with strictly, Naidu said. He concluded by praising the resilience of Amaravatis women, who he said bravely fought for five years to safeguard their rights and the capital despite when surveillance drones were hovering over their houses.

Dont let Tirumala become a concrete jungle: Andhra High Court
VIJAYAWADA: Expressing serious concern over the increasing construction activity in Tirumala, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday made it clear that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) should exercise utmost caution regarding the new structures on the hill shrine. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by T Mahesh of Tirupati seeking a direction to the TTD to prevent the illegal constructions in the name of mutts and rest houses, the HC Bench headed by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Cheemalapati Ravi, took strong exception to the construction of buildings, and expressed concern over the diminishing forest area. Necessary steps should be taken to prevent the beautiful Tirumala from becoming a concrete jungle. If the construction activity continues at this rate, the Tirumala forest area will disappear in the near future, the court opined, adding that it will not allow construction of mutts without proper planning. Later, it directed the Endowments Department, TTD EO and TTD vigilance officials to file their counters, and posted the matter to May 7. Petitioners counsellor Uday Kumar informed the court that the TTD had failed to initiate action against religious institutions constructing mutts and other buildings without obtaining necessary permissions.
No future to Jagan if he doesnt break free from coterie: Vijayasai
VIJAYAWADA: In a surprising disclosure, former MP V Vijayasai Reddy revealed that he parted ways with the YSRCP after its president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed a lack of trust in him, accusing him of succumbing to temptations. I was deeply hurt, and left the YSRCP, conveying to Jagan that if he no longer valued me, there was no reason for me to stay in the party. Despite his request for me to remain, I declined. Theres no going back, no chance of Ghar Vapsi, Vijayasai Reddy told the press outside the CID office in Vijayawada on Wednesday. The former MP was summoned for questioning with regard to the alleged illegal transfer of shares of Kakinada Seaports Limited (KSPL) and Kakinada SEZ (KSEZ). Vijayasai accused the coterie surrounding Jagan of leading him astray, warning that the YSRCP chiefs future could be grim unless he broke free from its influence. He said Vikranth Reddy, son of YSRCP MP YV Subba Reddy, was the mastermind behind the KSPL deal, asserting that he was not involved in the matter. He described his link with KV Rao as a mere acquaintance, denying any social, economic or political ties. Vijayasai cautioned that Jagans political survival depends on how he deals with this influential circle. I did not yield to any allurement: Vijayasai Former MP: Kasireddy Rajasekhar is mastermind behind liquor scam The day he escapes them, hell have a future. Otherwise, its grim, he observed, alleging that the coterie filters information reaching Jagan, allowing only what suits them. He claimed that meeting Jagan requires navigating this group, often through dubious means like bribery. Without naming individuals, he urged Jagan to discern truth from deception. Listen, but dont be misled. Decide wisely after identifying whos honest only then you can function effectively, he advised. The former YSRCP MP accused this clique of driving a wedge between him and Jagan. For three-and-a-half years, I endured insults. My decline lifted others it benefited them, he said. Despite his exit, Vijayasai asserted that he suffered no personal loss, stating, I served with integrity and dedication while I was there. He wished Jagan well but flagged concerns about the lower-rung leaders surrounding the YSRCP chief. A leader swayed by rumours harms himself, the people, and the party thats whats unfolding now, he remarked. On the Rs 500 crore deal between Aurobindo Group and Rao, Vijayasai claimed ignorance, stressing that his only connection was giving his daughter in marriage to the family (Aurobindo Group), with no business involvement beyond that. He dismissed claims of colluding with Vikranth to shield Jagan in the KSPL case, saying, I knew him as Subba Reddys son transaction claims are baseless. Vijayasai said he came to know that a senior officer implicated him, noting Subba Reddys close bond with Rao, including stays at Raos California home. Of the audit firms involved Sridhar and Santhanam, Manohar Chowdhry and Associates, and a Mumbai firm he only knew Chowdhry, linked to IAS officer Karikal Vallavan. Named Accused Number 2 (A2), Vijayasai quipped it echoes past CBI and ED cases under JD Lakshminarayana. On the liquor scam, he pointed to Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy as the mastermind, distancing himself from it.

Naidu dismissed concerns about declining population affecting parliamentary seat strength, asserting that national interests must take precedence. HRD Minister Nara Lokesh outlines plans to set up one Bhavita Centre per municipality
VIJAYAWADA: In a significant move to support students with special needs, HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh addressed ongoing infrastructure development and educational initiatives during the Question Hour session in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. Lokesh responded to questions raised by MLAs Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy (Kovur), Kolla Lalitha Kumari (Srungavarapukota), Gouthu Sireesha (Palasa), and Palle Sindhura Reddy (Puttaparthi) about the progress of the Mana Badi - Mana Bhavishyathu programme. Use of advanced tech for policing will ensure safer and happier Andhra Pradesh: CM Chandrababu Naidu
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu outlined a technology-driven approach to maintaining law and order, emphasising the use of drones and modern tools. Highlighting night-time drone patrolling, CCTV cameras, and 26 new cybersecurity stations, he vowed to ensure swift justice and deter crime. Intervening during a discussion on demands for a grant for the Home Administration on Tuesday, Naidu stressed that advanced technology would secure State borders against drug trafficking, and protect public and government assets, marking a shift towards a robust security framework. The integration of drones, technology, and proactive measures, he said, ensures a safer and happier Andhra Pradesh where lawbreakers face accountability. He also said this is paramount for the States development and attracting investments. Naidu warned that threats to peace and security would not be tolerated, with strict action promised against those targeting women. The previous YSRCP governments failure on law and order front, left citizens fearful, and public properties vulnerable, he observed. Naidu: I never engaged in vendetta politics To tackle the drug and ganja surge under the previous regime, the NDA government introduced the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) system to curb organised cultivation and trafficking of ganja while offering alternative livelihoods to growers. We want a drug-free State. Ganja should not be cultivated here. There will be no compromise, he asserted. The Shakti App, launched for womens safety, enables rapid police response to emergencies, unlike the ineffective Disha App of the previous regime. The Chief Minister cited a past case in previous TDP regime, where quick action forced a rapist to end his life, cautioning police against negligence. Naidu announced a new anti-land-grabbing law to address widespread encroachments by the previous administration, using drone surveillance and harsh penalties. He condemned the YSRCPs misuse of social media for abusive posts, especially against women, and affirmed restored dignity in Assembly debates. Drawing from 45 years of his political experience, he promised no leniency for criminals hiding behind political motives. I never engaged in vendetta politics, and there will be none in future, he averred. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha accused the previous YSRCP regime of filing 23 cases against her, including one linked to a DGP office visit, and of targeting TDP leaders. She claimed an atrocity occurred every eight minutes under the previous government. She outlined womens safety measures, including a Rs 17 crore protection unit, Shakti App launch on Womens Day, night shelters, and Shakti Teams in Anakapalli. Police response time has improved to 15 minutes in rural areas and 5-10 minutes in towns, with 112 providing emergency support. Infrastructure upgrades include Rs 50 crore for police stations, Rs 300 crore for 2,812 vehicles, and two drones per station. She criticised YSRCPs neglect of vehicle purchases, leading to a bank blacklist.

Aadudam Andhra scam: Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy announces Vigilance inquiry
VIJAYAWADA: Amid allegations of large-scale financial irregularities in the Aadudam Andhra sports event, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy announced a Vigilance inquiry to uncover the alleged misuse of public funds and identify those responsible. The previous YSRCP administration is accused of embezzling crores in the name of organising the mega sporting event, which took place from December 15, 2023, to February 3, 2024. The inquiry will scrutinise fund allocations, procurement processes, and the role of officials involved. The controversy erupted after multiple sportspersons and association representatives accused the former Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) leadership of financial mismanagement. Allegations include large-scale corruption in distributing prize money and supplying substandard sports kits and accessories. The issue gained traction when RD Prasad, a former national Kabaddi player and Atya-Patya Association CEO, filed a complaint with the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (APCID). He claimed that the event, conducted under the previous YSRC regime, was marred by severe financial irregularities. The complaint specifically named former Sports Minister RK Roja and ex-SAAP Chairman Byreddy Siddharth Reddy, alleging their involvement in misappropriating funds. Additionally, several TDP leaders accused Roja of playing a key role in procuring low-quality sports kits and mismanaging prize money distribution. Responding to the allegations, Minister Ramprasad Reddy ordered an independent departmental probe alongside the Vigilance inquiry. Sources indicate that initial findings suggest widespread financial malpractice. Vigilance officials reportedly discovered that crores of rupees were misused in procuring sports equipment. Investigations are also focusing on alleged collusion between officials and private companies supplying substandard kits. A senior official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that all bills and tenders related to the event are being examined. Authorities are particularly investigating the involvement of district collectors, instructions from ministers, and the role of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department in fund disbursement. During the Legislative Assembly session on Monday, MLAs Adireddy Srinivas, Bhuma Akhila Priya, Gothu Sireesha, and K Murali Mohan questioned Minister Ramprasad Reddy regarding the alleged financial irregularities. In response, the Minister revealed that `119.19 crore had been sanctioned for the event. This included Rs 38.55 crore for sports kit procurement via the R&B Department, Rs 2 crore for website development, Rs 34.20 crore for T-shirts and caps, Rs 3.43 crore for brochures, and Rs 40.93 crore allocated to district collectors for event-related expenses such as transportation, food, prize money, and the closing ceremony. The expert committee and Vigilance report will be submitted to the government soon. Strict action will be taken against officials and former ministers found guilty, in accordance with the law, said Ramprasad Reddy.

Temple services showed 70% satisfaction with darshan timings, 63% with facilities such as water and washrooms, and 81% with prasadam quality. Naidu instructed staff to treat devotees with respect and proposed introducing trained volunteers to assist with queue management during festivals. Reiterating his zero-tolerance stance on corruption, the CM called for stricter oversight, improved accountability.
Andhra government cancels land allotment to Hayagreeva Farms at Yendada
VIJAYAWADA: The State government has cancelled the allotment of 12.51 acres of land to Hayagreeva Farms and Developers at Yendada village in Visakhapatnam Rural Mandal. The memo issued by the Revenue Department to the Visakhapatnam Collector on Monday cites multiple violations of the land alienation conditions originally set in 2008. The land, alienated for the construction of cottages for the aged people and orphans, will now be reclaimed by the government for public use. The cancellation follows a prolonged legal and administrative battle, culminating in the orders of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The land, measuring 12.51 acres in Survey No. 92/3, was allotted to Hayagreeva Farms in 2008 under GO No. 1447 for Rs 45 lakh per acre. The firm was tasked with constructing cottages within a stipulated time, but the government alleged that it misused the land for commercial purpose, defeating the altruistic intent of the allotment. According to the memo signed by Special Chief Secretary RP Sisodia, the firm committed serious breaches, including selling 54% of the land (90% of the allowable portion) through sale agreements and deeds without obtaining necessary occupancy certificates from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). The building plans submitted by Hayagreeva Farms lacked old-age-friendly designs, violating the Building Rules 2017, and indicated a shift towards residential villas rather than cottages for the elderly people and orphans. The firms explanation that delays in approvals hindered progress was dismissed, with the government asserting that Hayagreeva Farms submitted misleading proposals, and failed to act within the agreed three-year timeframe after receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in 2018. The decision aligns with GO No. 57 (2015), empowering District Collectors to cancel, and resume land for non-compliance, and is bolstered by a recent High Court ruling, which upheld the governments right to reclaim land under the Board Standing Orders (BSO) No. 24. The District Collector of Visakhapatnam has been directed to take immediate action to reclaim the land, and repurpose it for public benefit.
Suspecting tax evasion, I-T teams raid Sri Chaitanya office, colleges
HYDERABAD: Income Tax officials on Monday carried out searches at the corporate office and branches of the Sri Chaitanya Group of educational institutions simultaneously in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai. As many as 30 teams of I-T sleuths descended on the groups Madhapur corporate office and its branches in Hyderabad and went through the fee collection system, including the logbooks and accounts, cross-checking them with the Income Tax Returns filed by Sri Chaitanya for the last two years. I-T sources disclosed that the institution is suspected to have violated various rules regarding fee collection across all its branches. The I-T sleuths reportedly found that the group was collecting a major portion of the fee in cash using specialised software for internal purposes this software programme allowed it to track fee collections and pending payments. I-T teams find Rs 2 crore in cash The I-T sleuths suspect that the two different software programmes were used to evade tax for years as money received in cash was not mentioned in the Income Tax Returns. I-T sources revealed that the sleuths found about `2 crore in cash in the groups corporate office located at Madhapur. Two other offices adjacent to the corporate office also yielded a hoard of cash, they said, without elaborating. Meanwhile, an official statement on the seizures made during the raids is awaited. The sources said that the I-T sleuths are trying to retrieve data hidden in the specialised software, and the official figures on the tax evaded will be released afterwards. The sources disclosed that the agency may conduct searches on the offices and residences of the groups directors and key officials, and related businesses, while following the money trail. The searches are likely to continue well into Tuesday.

Andhra Pradesh government permits Aadhaar authentication at Tirumala
VIJAYAWADA: The State government has approved Aadhaar authentication and eKYC for pilgrim verification at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to enhance transparency, curb fraudulent bookings, and streamline services like darshan, sevas, and accommodation. Following a request from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, the government sought approval from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to implement a face authentication module at the temple. Under Section 4(4)(b)(ii) of the Aadhaar Act, TTD will use Aadhaar-based verification to prevent impersonation and misuse of services. The system will ensure seamless profile creation, booking validation, and prevent tampering with Aadhaar details. Officials believe this mechanism will improve efficiency, ease verification, and provide a secure, hassle-free experience for devotees visiting Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple. The initiative is expected to eliminate touts, enhance security, and ensure that genuine devotees receive access to services without delays or manipulation. The move aligns with TTDs efforts to modernize and secure pilgrimage management at Tirumala.
Amaravati & Srikakulam airports: Tenders to select consultant invited
VIJAYAWADA/GUNTUR: In a significant move to boost infrastructure and connectivity in the State, especially in the capital region, the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) has invited tenders for selecting a consultant to conduct a pre-feasibility study and prepare a Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) for the development of greenfield international airports in Amaravati and Srikakulam. The corporation issued an e-tender notification on March 7, announcing that technical bids will be opened on March 24, followed by financial bids on March 27. The selected consultant will be responsible for preparing a detailed TEFR, identifying technical and economic factors influencing the development and operation of the proposed airports. The scope of work includes preparing a concept master plan as per current guidelines, creating a financial model, structuring the project, conducting environmental and social impact studies, and facilitating approvals from relevant government organisations. The consultant must conduct the pre-feasibility study with consideration of the proposed Amaravati airports location within the State capital region and the Srikakulam airports coastal positioning. The study will assess land suitability, traffic demand, economic and financial viability, expansion potential, and market demand. The assessment will also analyse aviation sector trends, air traffic growth projections, and anticipated demand for aviation hubs, Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) facilities, Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, and aerospace and defence manufacturing industries over the next 35 years. For the Amaravati airport, the development is intended to establish an independent civil airport for the region. Amaravati is located approximately 40 km from Guntur, 22 km from Vijayawada, 90 km from Machilipatnam Port, and 35 km from Gannavaram (Vijayawada) Airport. Regarding the Srikakulam airport, the proposed site is situated about 80 km north of Srikakulam. The site is well-connected to Srikakulam city and other major locations such as Visakhapatnam via NH-16 (Kolkata-Chennai). The sites proximity to the Bay of Bengal further enhances its strategic importance. Decision to establish greenfield airports hailed The State governments decision to establish a new international greenfield airport in Amaravati has been widely praised. Dr Jasti Veeranjaneyaulu, National Vice President of the All India Panchayati Parishad (Delhi) and Chairman of the Amaravati Development Committee, welcomed the move as a major step toward the States infrastructural and economic growth. Veeranjaneyaulu emphasised that the proposed Amaravati airport would attract global investments, particularly in the IT and industrial sectors. He highlighted that the development would create opportunities for multinational companies, software firms, and industrial enterprises, generating government revenue.
Survey on Kolleru encroachments begins
VIJAYAWADA: Following Supreme Court directives, officials from the Krishna district Forest Department have begun a survey of Kolleru Lake to assess encroachments. The State government has been instructed to submit a detailed status report by March 19 on the current state of encroachments in Kolleru Lake and the Kolleru Wildlife Sanctuary. The courts directive stems from a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Mrityunjaya Rao, who alleged that large-scale unauthorised aquaculture ponds are threatening Indias largest freshwater lake ecosystem. The encroachments, he claimed, endanger the regions rich biodiversity. Responding to these concerns, the Supreme Court on December 11, 2024, ordered a comprehensive survey to identify encroached areas and formulate revival measures. A bench comprising Justices BR Gavai, Augustine George Masih, and K Vinod Chandran has also sought details on the governments efforts to remove encroachments, particularly illegal aquaculture ponds, and measures to prevent further damage to the sanctuary. Forest officials began the survey from Gudivadalanka, employing drone technology for accurate mapping. The process is expected to conclude in the coming days, after which a detailed report will be submitted to both the State government and the SC. The lake, located between the Krishna and Godavari deltas, serves as a crucial ecological reservoir. It is fed by the Budameru and Tammileru rivers and connected to the Krishna-Godavari basin through 67 inflowing drains and channels. The surveys findings are expected to shape future conservation efforts for the lake.
Groundwater level rises by 1.11 m in Andhra Pradesh since 2024
VIJAYAWADA: Groundwater levels in Andhra Pradesh have increased by February 2025 with the statewide average depth reaching 8.81 metres below ground level (mbgl) a 1.11 metre rise from 9.92 mbgl in February 2024, registering 2.98 metre improvement since June 2024, as per Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Information and Management System (APWRIMS) data. Coupled with robust reservoir gains, this marks a water resource revival though experts caution against complacency with the above normal summer temperature forecast. The districts that saw an increase in groundwater include Palnadu (+5.76 metre rise to 9.25 mbgl, Prakasam (+4.39 metre rise to 14.97 mbgl), Eluru (+3.51 metre to 17.64 mbgl), Sri Sathya Sai (+3.28 metre rise to 10.17 mbgl), and Nandyal (+3.06 metre rise to 7.37 mbgl). Coastal Andhra Pradesh gained 1.02 metres (8.67 mbgl), and Rayalaseema 1.3 metres (9.13 mbgl). However, East Godavari recorded a drop of 1.26 metres (to 25.14 mbgl), and a 1.21 metre statewide fall from November 2024 (7.6 mbgl), indicating the post-monsoon stress. In the case of water levels in reservoirs, as of March 9, 2025, 77 reservoirs hold 512.94 TMC, 52.15% of their 983.53 TMC capacity up from 282.28 TMC (28.7%) last year. Nagarjuna Sagar (157.05 TMC, +17.61 TMC vs March 2024), Srisailam (71.44 TMC, +35.51 TMC), Somasila (56.65 TMC, +42.52 TMC), Kandaleru (50.94 TMC, +41.55 TMC), and Pulichinthala (34.20 TMC, +29.29 TMC) recorded an increase in water levels compared to the previous year. The water levels in major reservoirs (865.64 TMC capacity) rose from 27.82% to 51.94% (449.6 TMC), medium ones (116.27 TMC) from 35.38% to 54.32% (63.15 TMC), and small others fell to 11.73% (0.19 TMC). By basin, the water level in Pennar soared from 22.24% to 58.55% (140.29 TMC), Krishna from 31.51% to 46.36% (273.38 TMC), and Godavari held at 68.55% (4.04 TMC). Stable reservoir levels before the summer, coupled with increased groundwater level, keeps smiles on the faces of people, but above normal temperature forecast for the summer only put them on cautious note. According to experts, a 2.98 metre gain since June in groundwater seem to be an improvement. But unchecked exploitation of groundwater for agricultural purposes will burden the available of water resources in the State. With outflows (24,110 cusecs at Nagarjuna Sagar) outpacing inflows, irrigation experts recommend curbing releases, enhancing recharge in deficit areas, and promoting efficient irrigation methods to protect supplies through the dry months ahead.

APATA urges CM Chandrababu Naidu to develop air cargo infrastructure
VISAKHAPATNAM: The AP Air Travellers Association (APATA) has urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to develop air cargo infrastructure across the States airports, focusing on warehousing and temperature-controlled storage for perishable horticulture produce. In a letter to the CM, APATA highlighted Andhra Pradeshs top ranking in the production of chillies, cocoa, lime, oil palm, papaya, and tomatoes, as well as its status as Indias leading seafood exporter, generating Rs 20,000 crore annually. With major irrigation projects nearing completion and new industrial estates planned, the association stressed the rising demand for efficient air cargo facilities. Currently, AP lacks multi-temperature air cargo facilities, forcing businesses to rely on airports in Hyderabad and Chennai for exporting perishable goods, pharmaceuticals, seafood, and textiles. The Pharma Park at Nakkapalli, home to over 100 pharma firms, depends on out-of-state airports. During a post-budget meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on March 6, APATA raised the issue, urging cargo infrastructure upgrades at Vijayawada, Rajamahendravaram, Tirupati, and the upcoming Bhogapuram Airport. The Minister suggested submitting a detailed proposal. APATA has now requested the CM to initiate a DPR and seek approvals from the Centre.
Andhra Pradesh HC criticizes officials over assigned land registrations
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court criticised officials over assigned land registrations, ruling that they must prove that lands allocated to the poor before June 18, 1954, had a condition prohibiting sales. If they fail to do so, it must be assumed that no restrictions existed, and post-1954 laws should not apply. The court directed registration officials to accept documents for pre-1954 assigned lands submitted for sale, referencing the Raavi Satish case verdict. It also ruled that requiring a NOC for land registration is impermissible, reaffirming prior judgments. The ruling, issued two days ago, followed a petition by Balaram from Kanur village, Penamaluru mandal, Krishna district. The court overturned the Tahsildars claim that 66 cents of land belonged to the government and ordered the sub-registrar to register Balarams sale document. The disputed 66 cents were part of 1.64 acres assigned to N Venkataswamy in 1942. After his death, his heirs sold the land to Uppalapati Rajarathnam, whose son, Balaram, sought to sell it in 2008. The sub-registrar demanded an No Objection Certificate, which the Tahsildar denied. Balaram challenged this in the High Court in 2009, leading to the recent verdict.
APSRTC Staff, unions raise concerns over free bus travel scheme for women
VIJAYAWADA: APSRTC staff and the employees unions have raised serious concerns over the TDP-led NDA governments move to implement the free bus travel for women scheme as part of fulfilment of its Super Six by taking a district as a unit, stating that it will create a lot of confusion among bus conductors and beneficiaries due to jurisdictional issues. When TNIE spoke to women, conductors and RTC union leaders, they are of the view that the implementation of the scheme by taking the district as a unit will be of no use as most of the bus services are inter-district. For instance, if a woman beneficiary wants to travel to Guntur from Vijayawada under the scheme, she needs to pay full bus fare as the jurisdiction of NTR district ends at Kanaka Durga Varadhi. Same is the case if they want to travel to other places like Machilipatnam and Eluru. This will create a lot of confusion, and conductors have to face the ire of women if they charge ticket fare as per the norms, said APSRTC Employees Union president P Damodar. Travel limit may reduce RTC loss by Rs 150 crore a month Instead of taking the district as a unit for the scheme, the government should extend it to the entire State, restricting it to certain bus services, the Employees Union president said. Leaders of other employees unions have also expressed the same opinion on the free bus travel scheme. We urge the government not to limit the scheme to the districts to avoid operational issues and ensure that it serves the purpose, said Sundarayya of Staff and Workers Federation. It is learnt that APSRTC higher officials have been asked to prepare a detailed report on the difference of revenue, operational challenges, requirement of additional staff and buses if the free bus travel scheme for women is limited to only districts. APSRTC officials have informed the government that the loss of revenue due to the implementation of free bus travel for women will be around Rs 100 crore per month if it is limited to the districts. Otherwise, the government needs to bear a loss of Rs 250 crore revenue if the scheme covers the entire State, revealed a senior RTC official on the condition of anonymity.
TDP to finalise MLC picks as nomination deadline nears
VIJAYAWADA: With Monday (March 10) being the final day for filing nominations for Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seats under the MLAs quota, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is set to finalise its candidates on Sunday. Four TDP MLCs Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, P Ashok Babu, BT Naidu, and Duvvarapu Rama Rao are scheduled to retire on March 29. Additionally, the seat vacated by Janga Krishna Murthy, who resigned from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and joined the TDP, has been vacant since May 14, 2024. The Election Commission has issued a notification to fill these five vacancies. Of the five seats, Jana Sena Party (JSP) candidate Konidela Nagababu filed his nomination on Friday, while the TDP is yet to announce its candidates for the remaining four seats. With the list of aspirants growing, TDP leaders have been lobbying before party supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and TDP general secretary and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, seeking an opportunity. This has reportedly made it challenging for the yellow party to finalise its picks. Sources in the TDP say the leadership is facing pressure from several leaders who sacrificed their Assembly seats to alliance partners, JSP and BJP, during the 2024 elections. Among them are SVSN Varma from Pithapuram and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao from Mylavaram, who are now vying for MLC posts. Meanwhile, some of the outgoing MLCs have also requested the party leadership to retain their seats. Names of several leaders, including Beeda Ravichandra Yadav, Vaikuntam Prabhakar Chowdary, Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao, Buddha Venkanna, Nagul Meera, Kommalapati Sridhar, Pithala Sujatha, and KS Jawahar, are circulating as potential candidates. In addition, several leaders who supported the party during challenging times are hopeful for an opportunity to enter the Legislative Council. A senior TDP leader told TNIE that factors such as regional representation and caste balance are also being considered, further delaying the decision. With just one day remaining for filing nominations, anxiety among aspirants has reached its peak.
CPI condemns minister Gottiopati Ravi's statement on power tariff hike, criticizes govt's policies
VIJAYAWADA: Condemning Energy Minister Gottiopati Ravi Kumars statement on the power tariff hike in the Assembly, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary V Srinivas Rao claimed, Since assuming office, the TDP-led NDA government has imposed Rs 16,000 crore burden on people in form of True-Up and FPPCA charges twice, legalised the YSRCP governments hike in duty from 6 paise to Rs 1 per unit, and added 40 paise per unit monthly. The ministers statement is misleading. Furthermore, the Left leader pointed out that the coalitions manifesto had promised to curb electricity costs, a pledge Chandrababu Naidu echoed in rallies. People expected relief, but the government imposed Rs 6,072.86 crore (2022-23) and Rs 9,412 crore (2023-24) FPPCA charges, collected from late 2024 to 2026, plus ongoing monthly fees, he explained. Free power for up to 200 units for SC/ST households remains unimplemented in many areas, with arrears notices issued instead. Despite blaming the YSRCP for a Rs 1.80 lakh crore burden, the coalition is forcing it on citizens. The CPM demands action against officials spreading propaganda. Struggling consumers wont trust these lies, he asserted.

Details of irregularities in TDR bonds to be out in three months: MAUD Minister P Narayana
VIJAYAWADA: Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister P Narayana stated that the Crime Investigation Department (CID), along with regional enforcement agencies, will continue the probe into irregularities in the issuance of TDR bonds in Visakhapatnam under the previous government. He assured that complete details on the TDR bonds issued during the YSRCP regime will be provided in three months. Replying to a question asked by Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Narayana revealed that irregularities were not limited to Visakhapatnam but also occurred in Tanuku and Tirupati. In Tanuku, while bonds worth Rs 63.24 crore were to be issued, Rs 754 crore worth of bonds were issued. He highlighted that land in rural areas was misrepresented with urban addresses to inflate bond values. Similarly, 29 bonds worth Rs 170.99 crore were issued in Tirupati. Therefore, the issuance of TDRs was halted for five months after the formation of the coalition government. Currently, 965 TDR bond issuances are pending in the State.
ASHA warns of halting cashless services over dues
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Specialty Hospitals Association (ASHA) has decided to suspend cashless services under the NTR Vaidya Seva (NTRVS) scheme from April 7 if pending dues of approximately Rs 3,500 crore are not cleared. In a letter to P Ravi Subash, CEO of Dr NTR Vaidya Seva, ASHA President Dr Kulukuri Vijay Kumar said network hospitals are facing severe financial distress, with unpaid dues nearly equaling the schemes budget for the next year. Despite ongoing efforts to serve below-poverty-line (BPL) patients, hospitals are struggling to sustain operations. The association expressed frustration over repeated appeals to the trust and government, stating that hospitals are unable to cover even monthly operational costs. The uncertainty over payments has placed service continuity at risk. ASHA acknowledged the governments efforts to transition the scheme to an insurance-based model but criticised the lack of communication with network hospitals regarding its structure, operational modalities, and package rates. Hospitals should not have to learn about potential scheme revisions through media reports, the association stated, urging direct communication and transparency. It also pointed out that the prolonged delay in revising package rates has further worsened financial burdens, making continued cashless services unsustainable beyond April 7.
Make Yuvatha Poru a grand success, YSRCP's Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy exhorts cadres
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy conducted a teleconference with district presidents, MLAs, constituency in-charges, regional coordinators, heads of affiliated wings, secretaries, and key leaders and called for their active participation in Yuvatha Poru, highlighting the alleged failure of the coalition government and marking the partys Formation Day. During the teleconference, Sajjala emphasised that Yuvatha Poru, led by YSRCP President and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, aims to exert pressure on the coalition government which, he claimed, had deceived lakhs of students and youth. He directed the party rank and file, students, youth and parents to take part in the rallies planned across the collectorates in the State. Recalling the YSRCPs previous successful state-wide protests against the governments anti-farmer policies and excessive electricity charges, Sajjala urged the district presidents to coordinate effectively to ensure a third consecutive triumph in the form of Yuvatha Poru. Regarding the Formation Day of YSRCP, Sajjala instructed the local leaders and cadres to organise grand celebrations from village to state level.
