Punjab police to seek custody of Anmol Bishnoi after NIA interrogation
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab police will be seeking custody of deported gangster Anmol Bishnoi after the National Investigation Agency has completed interrogating him, a senior state police official said on condition of anonymity. The Punjab Police will move to court and seek his custody to break the criminal nexus being run in the state, the source added. As per state police records, Anmol is named as an accused in 16 FIRs registered across Punjab between October 2012 and July 2025, including charges of murder, extortion, robbery, attempt to murder, and Arms Act in Punjab. Anmol Bishnoi has been deported from the United States and was arrested by the National Investigation Agency(NIA) for his alleged key role in the murder of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewal. Several questions remain unanswered despite a charge sheet being filed in the Sidhu Moosewala case, sources said. Anmols interrogation, they believe, will be crucial in filling these gaps and uncovering the full extent of the conspiracy. He is accused of being a key conspirator in the murder of Sidhu, as he provided logistical support and weapons to the assailants who shot the singer dead at his native village in Mansa on May 29, 2022. Anmol is a key conspirator along with Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi. We will bring him on a production warrant, he added. In 2012, the first case was registered on Anmol at Abohar City Police Station on charges of attempt to murder, voluntary causing grievous injury, acts with intention and arms act. Then two years later, he was booked at the Sadar Police Station at Abohar on charges of trespass, theft, and Arms Act. Anmol hails from Dutarawali village in the Fazilka district of Punjab. Most of the FIRs are registered against him in Abohar and Fazilka. Sources said that on June 15, 2022, Punjab Police shared the first input with the Intelligence Bureau that Anmol fled to Dubai between November 19 and November 20, 2021, from Jaipur using a fake passport in the name of Bhanu Pratap, a resident of Sector 82, Faridabad, Haryana, with the fathers name mentioned as Rakesh. In reality, his father is Lovinder Bishnoi, and he is a resident of Dutranwali village in Fazilka. Afterwards, a case was later registered at the Punjab State Crime Police Station, Mohali, against him on charges of forgery, forgery of public records, using a forged document, criminal conspiracy, extortion, and under sections of the Passports Act for obtaining a passport by furnishing fake particulars. Later, a court issued his open warrants in this case, said sources. On June 24, 2022, the Bureau of Immigration issued a look-out circular for Anmol on the request of Punjab Police and on July 20, the same year state home department wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs requesting the initiation of the process for the arrest and deportation. Sources said that the NIA yesterday arrested him in a case registered in 2022 to investigate an alleged nexus between criminal gangs in India and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a designated terrorist organisation, to raise funds, recruit youths and carry out terror strikes in the country.

Anmol is wanted in multiple criminal cases in India, including the murders of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022 and Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique in October 2024, and firing at actor Shah Rukh Khans residence in April 2024. As soon as the special US flight landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, Bishnoi was detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He was later produced at Delhis Patiala House court, which sent him to 11 days NIA custody. Hailing from Punjabs Fazilka, Anmol was his borther Lawrence Bishnois principal overseas handler and was directing extortion rackets, issuing threats, and coordinating assignments through encrypted channels. Anmol reportedly slipped out of the country in April 2022 using a forged passport, accompanied by another wanted gangster Sachin Thapan. Punjab police arrest two in connection with RSS leader's son's murder plot
CHANDIGARH: Four days after 32-year-old Naveen Arora, son of a senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary and grandson of late Dina Nath, a senior RSS leader and social worker, was shot dead in Ferozepur district, Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested two of the five men involved in plotting and executing the killing. Senior Superintendent of Police, Ferozepur, Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the motive for the killing was yet to be ascertained. He said the conspiracy to kill Arora was hatched on 13 November during the birthday party of a youth, Kanav, at Basti Bhatian Wali. It was there that Jatin Kali of Badhi Jaimal Singh village made the plan and offered Rs 1 lakh to Kanav, Badal, Harsh and another suspect whose identity the police have withheld to prevent any compromise in the investigation. Then the accused mapped Aroras daily routine. After that, two teams were formed, one of Kanav and Harsh, and the other of Badal and his accomplice, so that if Naveen altered his route to return home, the second team could execute the plan. Before killing Arora, the alleged accused went to Uttar Pradesh and procured weapons, said Sidhu, adding that the weapon used in the crime is yet to be recovered. He said Kanav and Harsh have been arrested, and efforts are on to trace the three other accused. The police is investigating all the angles, including the claim by a terror outfit, which appears dubious, to identify what triggered the killing, said Sidhu. Interestingly, on Monday, a little-known pro-Khalistan outfit, Sher-e-Punjab Brigade, issued a statement on social media claiming responsibility for the killing. The incident occurred around 7 pm on 15 November when Naveen Arora, son of senior RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, who ran a dupatta shop in the main bazaar of Ferozepur, was walking to his residence near Dr Sadhu Chand Chowk. The assailants fired at him near Budhwara Wala Mohalla. He died on the spot.

Complaint filed against former DGP Anurag Gupta for alleged criminal links
RANCHI: Senior High Court Advocate Rajiv Kumar has registered a complaint former DGP Anurag Gupta alleging him of conniving with criminals to extort money from businessmen and contractors. Kumar in his complaint alleged that Anurag Gupta, in connivance with notorious Jharkhand criminal Sujit Sinha and other criminals, formed an organisation called Koylaanchal Shanti Samiti (KSS) and collected crores of rupees from coal traders, contractors, transporters, doctors, businessmen across the state. I have filed a zero FIR against former DGP Rajeev Kumar and some others for extorting money in connivance with other officials during his tenure as DG (ACB) and DGP of Jharkhand, said advocate Rajeev Kumar. Rajeev Kumar further alleged that, while holding the post of DGP, Gupta was indirectly running the biggest criminal organisation of Jharkhand, and on the behest of a criminal, he arranged for the so-called encounter of criminal Aman Sahu, who was lodged in jail. Rajiv Kumar alleged in his complaint that Anurag Gupta, while abusing his position and power, extorted crores of rupees. While serving as Director General of ACB and CID, he, with the help of some DSPs and other police officers, Mohammad Parvez Alam, Mohammad Nehal and Animesh Naithani, filed fake FIRs against his opponents. Anurag Gupta also issued notices to some government officers and engineers based on fake complaints, in which he was assisted by CID and ACB officers Amar Kumar Pandey, Ganesh Prasad Inspector, Constable Anuj Mahato, Constable Chandan Kumar, Constable Prabhat Dubey, Constable Birendra Kumar Mahato, Constable Deepak Mehta, Constable Mahadev Mahato, Constable Ranjeet Rana, Constable and others, stated the complaint. Therefore, Rajeev Kumar has requested Jharkhand police to investigate the criminal and corrupt acts of former DGP and file an FIR against him and his associates under relevant sections. This is extremely important in the interest of Jharkhand and the country, he said. Earlier on Sunday, Jharkhand BJP Chief and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, had written a letter to the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) seeking a comprehensive probe into an alleged nexus between former Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta and the organised criminal syndicate led by gangster Sujit Sinha. In his letter, Marandi said that the allegationsif provenpose a direct threat to national security. Marandis letter claims that the Sinha gang allegedly procured weapons dropped by drones in Punjabs Moga district, reportedly originating from hostile neighbouring Pakistan. The gang is further alleged to have links with gangster Prince Khan, said to be associated with international criminal networks. Notably, Gupta resigned from his post on November 4 , after seven months of his retirement. Despite the fact that central government had rejected the state governments decision to give Gupta an extension even after his retirement, he continued on the post of DGP for seven long months.

Punjab CM Mann secures deferral on key state issues at Northern Zonal Council meeting
CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said the BJP-led Centre had agreed to defer as many as 11 agenda items related to the state, which were part of the deliberations during the meeting of the North Zonal Council (NZC) in Faridabad on Monday. Speaking to reporters, CM Mann said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had ordered a status quo on most of the issues related to Punjab. The issue about staff appointment in the administration and institutions of Chandigarh has been referred to the NZC standing committee, he added. Mann criticised the NZC members including Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh for attempting to infringe the rights of the states. He said that it is unfortunate that Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh are unnecessarily mounting pressure on Punjab. The Punjab CM alleged that the leadership of these states have made a mockery of the platform by making unjust demands seeking a share in the resources of the state and even its rivers. He said that in the NZC meeting, all the member states put forth their views, and as the head of the state, he also presented the case of Punjab. Out of a total 28 agenda items, 11 were related to Punjab, and for the first time, due to the strenuous efforts of the state government, all of them were deferred, he said. Those who are making a fuss over river waters must understand one thing, a real-time assessment of the availability of river waters should be made, for which the presence of water must be reviewed, Mann said. Mann quipped that Haryana has made a very strange demand --that Punjab should be restrained from constructing mini hydel projects on the Bhakra Main Line (BML) on the grounds that it would hamper the flow of water. He said it was surprising that the naive leadership of Haryana was indulging in such baseless tantrums far removed from facts. He added that issues related to the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) can be resolved only through the Yamuna Satluj Link (YSL), which would ensure the judicious use of Yamuna water. Punjab, he stressed, has no surplus water to divert through the SYL, and no scientific calculation has ever been carried out regarding water availability. Mann categorically reiterated that Punjab has no spare water to share with any state --there is no question about it, he said. In the wake of the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, he said there is now a significant opportunity to resolve long-pending water-related issues concerning the states represented at the meeting. There is a possibility, he added, of linking the Chenab river with the Ravi and Beas rivers, over which dams already regulate downstream water flow. He said that linking the Chenab with the Ravi and Beas would allow the surplus water inflow to be used productively by downstream states, including Punjab, for both power generation and irrigation. The additional water, he said, would also help Punjab bridge its water shortfall, particularly in the border areas. On the issue of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Mann said he had strongly opposed the proposal to appoint a whole-time member in the BBMB from Rajasthan, arguing that the board was constituted under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, and concerns only the successor states of Punjab and Haryana. Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh are already represented as ex officio members, he said, and creating additional whole-time posts would only increase expenditure --most of which is borne by Punjab-- without serving any useful purpose. Mann said he had also forcefully reiterated Punjabs longstanding demand for the transfer of Chandigarh to the state, noting that after the reorganisation of Punjab, the Indira Gandhi Agreement of 1970 clearly stated that the capital project area of Chandigarh will, as a whole, go to Punjab, reflecting an explicit commitment from the Centre. The Rajiv-Longowal Accord, signed on July 24, 1985, he added, reaffirmed that Chandigarh would be transferred to Punjab. On maintaining the 60:40 ratio in the intake of service personnel from Punjab and Haryana in the functioning of the UT of Chandigarh, the Chief Minister said that preserving the status quo was essential. He expressed concern that IAS and PCS officers from Punjab were being excluded from key positions in the Chandigarh administration. Posts in departments such as Excise, Education, Finance and Health, he said, were now being opened to cadres like the UT cadre (DANICS), thereby undermining Punjabs role in the effective functioning of the UT administration. He said Haryana and Himachal Pradesh had unilaterally withdrawn their colleges from Panjab University in 1973 and 1975 respectively, set up their own universities, and stopped funding Panjab University altogether. He said Punjab alone had supported and nurtured the university for 50 years, and questioned why Haryana now wanted to affiliate its colleges with Panjab University when they have been affiliated for decades with Kurukshetra University, an A+ NAAC-accredited institution. Mann reiterated that there should be no change in the status of Panjab University, adding that Panjab University is our university, and we will continue to support and fund it in the future as well.

MHA issues advisory against online scams, flags fake social media ads as key concern
NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an advisory requesting people to beware of fraudulent investment schemes, fake job offers and other online scams. The I4C under the MHA stated in the advisory that, in most of such advertisements, scamsters use deepfake videos to misguide the users leading to devastating financial losses for victims across the country who could be deceived by convincing visuals, false claims and professional-looking online pages. The advisory also highlighted a few cases of cyber fraud. In a recent case, a 25-year-old medical representative from Ahmedabad lost Rs 44 lakh in a trading scam that began with an Instagram advertisement. Drawn by the promise of high returns, he joined a Telegram group managed by fraudsters posing as financial advisers. The group initially showed rising profits on screen to build confidence before the victims entire investment suddenly disappeared, the advisory said. In another case, a 40-year-old woman from Ashok Vihar in Delhi lost Rs 21 lakh after falling for a fraudulent stock trading advertisement on social media. She had downloaded a fraudulent mobile application that closely resembled a legitimate brokerage platform. At first, small profits appeared in her account, convincing her of its authenticity. She was then added to a WhatsApp group of more than one hundred members where a woman posing as an expert guided her on investments. Believing the scheme to be genuine, she transferred money across three different bank accounts in Punjab, Bengal and Odisha. When she declined to invest a further Rs 70 lakh, she was blocked from the application and realised she had been cheated, the MHA said. Similarly, a student from Rohini lost more than Rs 1.4 lakh in a fake cashback scheme promoted through social media. Lured by promises of commissions via QR codes, she continued transferring money in the hope of recovering earlier payments. After a friend alerted her, she lodged a cyber fraud complaint and froze her account, recovering Rs 40,000. But by then she had lost Rs 1 lakh, the advisory said. More to these cases of scams relating to work from home have also been reported, the MHA said, while noting that these incidents share a common pattern: fake advertisements, social media manipulation and rapid movement of funds across several accounts to make recovery difficult. The MHA said, even as the I4C continues to monitor and counter these threats by working with law enforcement agencies and digital platforms, people are advised to stay alert and avoid responding to unsolicited investment schemes, cashback offers or part-time job messages circulating online. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal ( www.cybercrime.gov.in ) or by calling the 1930 helpline, which has enabled the recovery of significant amounts for victims nationwide, the MHA said, while asking people to remain alert and aware and follow only the official social media handle CYBERDOST on all leading social media platforms.

Jharkhand BJP chief Marandi seeks NIA probe into alleged links between former DGP, Sujit Sinha gang
RANCHI: Jharkhand BJP chief and Leader of the Opposition, Babulal Marandi, has written to the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) seeking a comprehensive investigation into an alleged nexus between former Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta and the organised criminal syndicate led by gangster Sujit Sinha. In his letter, Marandi said that the allegations, if proven, pose a direct threat to national security. Marandis letter states that the Sinha gang has procured weapons dropped by drones in Punjabs Moga district, reportedly originating from a hostile neighbouring Pakistan. The gang is further to have links with gangster Prince Khan, who is said to be associated with international criminal networks. Notably, Gupta resigned from his post on November 4, after seven months of service following his retirement. Despite the central government rejecting the state governments decision to grant Gupta an extension, he continued in the post of DGP for seven months. Marandi further said in his letter that recent investigations following the UAPA arrest of Riya Sinha, wife of gangster Sujit Sinha, revealed suspicious digital communication between her and former DGP Anurag Gupta. The letter cites claims that chats, call logs, and other data retrieved by police point to highly questionable connections. According to the letter, interrogation inputs from gang members suggest that the criminal front organisation Koylanchal Shanti Samiti (KSS) was formed and operated at the alleged behest of Anurag Gupta. The syndicate has long been involved in organised crime, including murder, extortion from contractors, transporters, doctors, lawyers and businessmen, and illegal arms trade. It is further alleged that Gupta might have received a percentage of extortion proceeds collected from contractors, transporters and businessmen. Marandi also urged the NIA to examine claims that this alleged nexus was used to control extortion and criminal dominance in the Bharatmala Project areas in Jharkhandan infrastructure corridor of national importance. Through his letter, Marandi has also asked the NIA to investigate whether the encounter of gangster Aman Sahu may have been influenced to benefit the Sinha gang by removing rival criminal networks. Marandi further alleged that some officials in the Jharkhand Police attempted to suppress communication records between Riya Sinha and the former DGP, calling it a serious attempt to obstruct justice. Citing the alleged international arms supply chain, the suspected role of a former top police officer and the impact on law and order, Marandi claimed that the entire case must be probed by the NIA, which is authorised to investigate organised crime with cross-border implications.
RSS leaders grandson shot dead in Ferozepur; BJP blames AAP govt for deteriorating law and order
CHANDIGARH: A 32-year-old shopkeeper, the son of a senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader and the grandson of late Dina Nath, a senior RSS functionary and social worker, was shot dead in Ferozepur, Punjab, by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants on Saturday evening. The Bharatiya Janata Party attacked the AAP-led Punjab government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The incident occurred around 7 pm when Naveen Arora, son of senior RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, who ran a dupatta shop in the main bazaar of Ferozepur, was walking to his residence near Dr Sadhu Chand Chowk. The assailants fired at him near Budhwara Wala Mohalla. He died on the spot. Family members and traders gathered at the scene and expressed anger over the shooting. The two unidentified youths on a motorcycle opened fire at Naveen from point-blank range before fleeing. He was later rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His father, Baldev Raj Arora, said, Naveen is my son and we were all sitting and talking. He goes out and comes back to be with his children every day. Just five minutes after he left, a couple of boys came and informed us that someone shot my son. Sources said police are scanning CCTV footage from the locality, which shows two men running after the firing and escaping. The visuals are being used to identify the attackers. Naveen was on his way home when two unidentified individuals shot him. Our team is investigating and we are also scanning CCTV footage, said Senior Superintendent of Police, Ferozepur, Bhupinder Singh Sidhu. Ranbir Singh Bhullar, MLA for Ferozepur (Urban), also visited the family and assured strict action against the accused. Attacking the AAP-led state government on law and order, BJP Punjab president Sunil Jakhar said that the shooting and murder of Naveen Arora, the young son of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora in Ferozepur, had once again exposed the collapse of law and order under the AAP government. He said gangsters were running a parallel government in the state, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had failed to fulfil his responsibilities and had left Punjab abandoned. Expressing grief over the death of the RSS leaders son, Jakhar added that people in Punjab were being forced to live in an atmosphere of fear, while the Aam Aadmi Party government had completely failed to provide law and order and security to citizens. Jakhar said people were receiving threatening and extortion calls every day, and some serious incident was occurring in one part of the state or another. He added that anti-social elements no longer fear the government because those running the government lack even the basic understanding of governance. Ashwani Sharma, working president of the Punjab BJP unit, said this was neither the first nor an isolated incident. He said the continuous murders and crimes targeting businessmen, athletes, youth, and common people raised serious questions about the incompetent working style of the Punjab government. Sharma alleged that the state government had proven to be a complete failure in handling law and order, and asserted that the BJP would not remain silent on the safety of innocent people. He said the incident clearly showed how the morale of criminals had risen under the current governments rule. Expressing deep concern, he stated that people in Punjab no longer felt safe anywhere. He further said, Instead of ensuring public safety, the Punjab Police has been deployed to serve Arvind Kejriwal and his team, who have come from Delhi, which is against public interest. Sharma said the BJP would continue its fight against the rising wave of crime and would keep demanding strict measures to restore peace and security in the state. Union Minister and senior BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu said the killing had shaken the entire state and added that the incident at the home of senior RSS volunteer and social worker Baldev Raj Arora showed that criminals had become fearlessly emboldened. He said people in Punjab feel increasingly unsafe and that the BJP would take a serious course as the state government was failing to control crime.

SGPC considers ban on lone women in Pakistan pilgrimage groups after devotee goes missing
CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is considering barring lone women from joining pilgrimage groups (jathas) to Pakistan after 48-year-old Sarabjeet Kaur, a devotee from Punjab, went missing during a recent pilgrimage. Kaur reportedly converted to Islam, adopted the name Noor Hussain, and married Nasir Hussain of Sheikhupura soon after entering Pakistan. Police and SGPC officials later confirmed that she has three cheating and fraud cases registered against her in Punjab. Kaur was part of a 1,932-member jatha that crossed the Attari-Wagah border on November 4 for Guru Nanak Devs 556th birth anniversary celebrations. When the group returned on November 13, she was missing. An 18-second video circulating on social media shows Kaur stating before a magistrate that she had known Nasir for nine years, loved him, and was willingly converting and marrying him. I am currently divorced and willingly marrying him, she says. The clip has not been independently verified, though Pakistani media reported that the nikah took place on November 5. Following the incident, SGPC secretary Partap Singh said this was the second such case, citing the 2018 instance of Kiran Bala, now Amna Bibi, who also stayed back in Pakistan after converting to Islam and marrying there. He said the SGPC had initially objected to Kaur travelling alone but allowed her after she produced recommendations from her village sarpanch and nambardar. Singh blamed central agencies for failing to detect that Kaur was already in contact with a Pakistani national. It is a failure of the agencies that they did not sense she was already in contact with a Pakistani national and that her visit was pre-planned, he said. Singh also added that Kaur has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and brought a bad name to the pilgrimage process. Woman pilgrim goes missing in Pakistan after Guru Nanak birth anniversary visit Police investigations revealed that Kaurs criminal background included three fraud and cheating cases in Bathinda and Kapurthala, while her sons, Lovejot Singh and Navjot Singh, had nine cases of fraud, assault and cheating registered against them in Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi and Kabirpur. Officials said Kaur listed a permanent address in Malout on her passport, but did not provide her citizenship or passport number on her Pakistan visa immigration form. Her husband has been living in the United Kingdom for over fifteen years, and her sons were reportedly not on talking terms with her. Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora said police have met Kaurs sons, visited her village in Amanipur, and are coordinating with central agencies to understand her motives for visiting Pakistan. Gurinder Kaur, who headed the jatha, immediately informed SGPC member from Sultanpur Lodhi, Gurpreet Kaur, and asked her to visit Kaurs house in Amanipur. Gurpreet, who had recommended Sarabjeet Kaurs name, said she had recommended ten pilgrims in total. SGPC officials said the incident has hurt religious sentiments and brought disrepute to the pilgrimage process, prompting the body to reconsider allowing lone women to join jathas travelling to Pakistan.
