Chai, Chai: Travels in Places Where You Stop But Never Get Off by Bishwanath Ghosh . Some years ago, a book was published that would change the way one looks at travel forever. Bishwanath Ghosh had got down at Itarsi junction to grab a cup of chai while travelling from Kanpur to Chennai. Sipping on the tea, as he heard the recorded voice announcing the arrivals and delays of the many trains that passed through the station, it struck him that while Itarsi junction connects the length and breadth of India on the rail map, almost nothing is known about Itarsi, the town. Thus began Ghoshs quest to tell the story of all the towns behind some of the countrys biggest junctions: Itarsi, Mughal Sarai, Jhansi, Shoranur, Arakkonam, and Jolarpettaiplaces that are always a stopover and never a destination; familiar and yet unknown. Chai, Chai, a definitive work on small-town India, went on to become an instant success and continues to draw readers with its abundant wit and charm The Shooting Star by Shivya Nath - Shivya Nath quit her corporate job at age twenty-three to travel the world. CB preps to deploy cyber commandos to fight online crime in Odisha soon
BHUBANESWAR: The Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha Police will soon have seven cyber commandos, trained by various institutions in cyber security under the supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), to probe complex online crimes taking place in the state. At least 16 officers of the CB had appeared for the screening test but seven were selected for the six-month-long programme organised by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). CB sources said four are undergoing training at International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Raipur, two at Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in Pune and one at Gandhinagars Rashtriya Raksha University. The cyber commandos are expected to be assigned duties as per the expertise they develop during training in digital forensics, incident response and securing the information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure. Amid growing cyber threats, the MHA had earlier issued an advisory to all states over establishment of a special wing of cyber commandos. The cyber commandos will be significant for Odisha Police as the state has witnessed an exponential rise in cyber crimes in the recent years. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly on Monday that cyber criminals cheated over Rs 125 crore from the people in the state between 2021 and 2023. He said 6,368 cases were registered and as many as 1,388 people arrested during the period. In the recently-concluded DG& IG conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too made suggestions and advised the states to robustly combat the growing cyber crimes. We are hopeful that cyber commandos will enhance our capabilities in diverse aspects of cybersecurity and deal with complex online crimes, said a senior police officer. The training of the first batch of cyber commandos will be over by March after which the CB will send the second batch of officers to undertake the programme in various institutions across the country. The MHA plans to raise 5,000 cyber commandos over the next five years. Currently, 286 police personnel of all the states are undergoing cyber commando training at eight different institutes like National Forensic Sciences University, New Delhi, NFSU, Gandhinagar, Rashtriya Raksha University, DIAT as well as IITs in Kanpur, Madras and Kottayam. Sources said I4C will conduct the training for the second batch of officers next year and its screening test is likely to be organised in January. Any rank police personnel having basic knowledge of computer networks and operating systems can appear for the screening test. We received around 111 applications and their names were sent to the Centre, said a CB officer.

Hyderabad :In a tale straight out of a movie script, a 12-year-old boy, Mohd Khaleel Ghori, who went missing from Kanchanbagh in 2014, was adopted by a retired employees family in Kanpur, and raised as Abinav Singh. Now 22 years old, he was traced by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), women's safety wing, whose personnel handed Singh (Ghori) to his parents in the city. CID chief Shikha Goel on Wednesday stated that Ghori was missing since August 18, 2014. The team of SHE cyber lab and anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) in the women safety wing take up such long-pending missing cases and make all out efforts to trace them, she said. The boy had left home with just his Aadhar card. Even though efforts were made by the local police, he could not be traced. Later, the case was transferred to AHTU, CID. During investigation, the technical team collected all digital identities of the missing boy using open-source tools as well as police investigation tools. His digital identity was changed through the Aadhar card and was updated with a new mobile number. Based on the small lead, the team verified the details of the mobile number and identified that it was related to a retired government employee of Kanpur. It was found that at the age of 12 years the boy went to UP by train and while moving around at the Kanpur railway station, he was taken to a child care institution by railway police. In 2022, he was adopted by the retired government employee Sanehi Singh, who changed the boys name to Abinav Singh, Goel said.

RBI Update: 98% of Rs 2000 Notes Returned, But Legal Tender Status Remains
New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revealed that nearly all Rs 2000 notes have been returned following the government's decision to withdraw them. As of November 29, 2024, 98.01% of these high-value banknotes have been returned, significantly reducing their circulation value from Rs 3.56 lakh crore in May 2023 to just Rs 6,839 crore. Despite this reduction, the Rs 2000 notes still remain legal tender, according to the RBI's latest update. However, the process for depositing or exchanging these notes has changed. Initially, individuals could exchange Rs 2000 notes at any bank branch until October 7, 2023. Now, this service is only available at 19 RBI issue offices across India. Since October 2023, people have been able to deposit Rs 2000 notes into their accounts at these designated RBI offices or even send them via India Post to be credited later. The RBI offices accepting these notes are located in cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and New Delhi, among others. Rs 2000 notes were first introduced in November 2016 as part of the government's demonetisation effort to replace the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. How to Exchange Rs 2000 Notes: RBI's Update on the Process The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has informed the public that Rs 2000 banknotes can still be sent via India Post from any post office across India to one of the RBI issue offices for credit to bank accounts. This facility allows individuals to deposit their Rs 2000 notes remotely. Although the circulation of Rs 2000 notes has significantly decreased, they continue to be recognized as legal tender. The 19 RBI offices currently accepting these notes for deposit and exchange are located in cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram. Introduced in November 2016, the Rs 2000 notes replaced the demonetized Rs 1000 and Rs 500 banknotes, as part of the government's currency reform efforts.
