Bangladesh has released Tk 60 billion ($490 million) to boost electricity generation from oil-fired power plants, as the government seeks to reduce load-shedding and divert scarce natural gas to industries. China will invest in establishing a waste-to-energy power plant in Aminbazar. A tripartite agreement on the project will be signed in Beijing on September 2. Electricity generation from the plant is expected to begin in 2028, with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) set to purchase the electricity at Tk 25 per unit. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Dr. Abdul Moin Khan at the Secretariat
