WPL 2026: 'This Is Just A New Beginning' - How Rajeshwari Gayakwad Silenced The Doubters

How Rajeshwari Gayakwad: On the eve of Gujarat Giants second appearance in a Women's Premier League (WPL) Eliminator at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara, Rajeshwari Gayakwad exudes a quiet confidence that belies the tumultuous journey that brought her to this juncture. At 34, left-arm spinner Gayakwad is having her best WPL season 10 wickets coming in seven games at an average of 14.50 and economy rate of 7.63. Nothing much is going on. All we have in mind is to play well at any cost and win tomorrow's match. Simply, that's it. I have that confidence in myself and in my team as well. This time, I feel we will play in the finals. We have the confidence to play in the finals, but winning tomorrow's match is very important for us. All we have in our mind is to play well and win tomorrow's match. We will surely play in the finals for the first time, which is going to be a very happy moment. But we will play with confidence tomorrow, Gayakwad told IANS in an exclusive conversation on Monday. For Gujarat Giants, reaching the final for the first time would be historic. But for Rajeshwari, it would be validation of the hard work done in the last 12 months. She didnt perform well in the last three seasons for her previous team UP Warriorz, but this season shes leading the spin bowling attack for GG. With her wide of the crease deliveries and subtle changes in flight and loop trapping batters on spin-friendly pitches in Vadodara. The secret behind her good showings, as per Rajeshwari, has been the improved fitness work, especially after undergoing a knee surgery in September 2024. I got a lot of break from cricket. Since I was in rehab, I was trying to be mentally and physically fit. I have worked a lot on myself. I have given myself a lot of time. I have tried to work on my weaknesses. I have been wanting to play WPL for a year and this is a big break for a player. I have learnt a lot from this break and got time to implement it. I have always tried to give my best and do well whenever I get a chance to bowl. No matter what happens, I always try to do my best to make the team win, she explained. The injury layoff, while devastating at that time, proved to be an unexpected blessing. Away from the intensity of competition, Rajeshwari had the luxury of time to rebuild her fitness, reassess her game, and work on technical refinements that would have been difficult to implement mid-season. When I just came back from rehab, I didn't get a chance to play that many matches last year. I have always learnt a lot of things from the outside whenever I didn't get to play. If a chance to play arrived, I have always tried to implement those things on the field. The physical transformation is evident - fitter and leaner than in previous seasons, Rajeshwari has retained the guile that has always been her hallmark. I did become mentally stronger by learning a lot of things from the outside and I have also taken care of my fitness. You must be thinking that I look fit - I have worked hard on myself. It's my main focus to always do well when on the field and whoever thinks that my time in cricket is over, I have to show them by doing well and saying that 'Yes, I am doing great and I have to play a lot more cricket ahead, she said. For Rajeshwari, the decision to undergo surgery came with the knowledge that the path back would be arduous, and there were no guarantees of returning to her previous best self, including being back in the Indian team. When the surgery was about to happen, I knew that it was not going to be easy for me. I had realized a lot of things like it is going to take time for me to get out of this. At that time, I was mentally very down. When you do know that things are not going to be right in the coming times, it was a very big decision for me to get the surgery done. I knew that it was not going to be easy and will be a tough thing for me. Still, I agreed to get the surgery done. But I did not get a chance to join the team and I was mentally down. It's just that whenever I get a chance to play, I will do my best. That is why I did well in the domestic season as well I was the (third) highest wicket there (in Senior Womens T20 Trophy). What has happened is that age is something everyone talks about, but I don't think that age is a big deal for anyone. Rather than accepting the narrative that her time had passed, especially due to the emergence of young left-arm spinners N Sree Charani and Vaishnavi Sharma, apart from Radha Yadav and Shuchi Upadhaya being given chances, Rajeshwari chose to work hard and come back to playing the game she picked as a kid in Bijapur. As long as I am fit, I can play and I want to drive out that mentality from everyone's mind and make them realise that age is just a number. As long as I want to play, I will play. So, let's see - I have always tried to give my best. A lot of people thought that my cricket career was over, but that is not the case. This is just a new beginning for me and I would like to say that, she said. With WPL 2026 seeing her be back at her best in T20s, Rajeshwari is naturally keen to add more scalps to her international career worth five Tests, 64 ODIs and 58 T20Is. It means a lot to me. Everyone gets a chance after an injury, but I didn't get a chance and I do feel very sad about that. It's okay, as I will play whenever I get a chance. It has felt like everyone gets a chance after an injury, but when it came to me, I didn't get a chance. I should have got a chance and I feel regretful about the fact that I should have got at least one chance. One more thing - I didn't have a bad performance in ODIs, but I am not there in the ODI side. I am on 99 wickets and it does feel that I should have got a chance to play and complete 100 wickets. But I haven't got that chance and I feel I should have got that opportunity, she elaborated. Asked if she still harbors hopes of an India comeback, her response is very direct. If one doesn't look at the age, then I can get a chance. No one cares about the age and if you think about it, you won't get a chance. But if they think I can play, I will get a chance. Through the toughest periods - the surgery, rehabilitation, and being out of action, Rajeshwaris family constantly stayed by her side. There was no one except my family. They have supported me a lot. No one else knew what I was going through. When you do well, people ask about you. But when you need someone, no one supports you and I have noticed this. At that time, no one supported me except my family. Even now, I play for my family because they do think that I can still play cricket. I am able to play now because of my family and their support. Her younger sister, Rameshwari, also a cricketer and played for Karnataka, has become Rajeshwaris most trusted technical advisor and mental support. She plays a very big role in my life. She never thinks about herself when it comes to me. I always consider her more of a mentor than a sister. She is younger than me, but she is more mature than me. Whenever we go home, as of now, I don't have a personal coach for a long time. My sister is everything to me because she understands and tells me everything. We started playing cricket together. She knows what I do wrong and what I do right. We tell and listen to each other about what improvement we can bring to our respective games. She tells me what I am doing wrong or what I used to do right before. She understands everything about bowling and tries to tell me about it and she supports me a lot. The support is unconditional, irrespective of performance or results. She is always happy. My family always supports me - even if I don't get a wicket or pick four-five scalps, they are happy. They just want to see me play well. My family supports me a lot and I can say that I am still playing because of them, she said. This WPL season has seen Gayakwad bowl in contrasting conditions, from the flatter surfaces in Navi Mumbai to the more helpful tracks at Vadodara. Though she didnt get much bowling time in the first half of the competition, the second half has been a productive one for her. The pitches here aid the spinners, while flat pitches were there. But I didn't get many chances to bowl in Navi Mumbai. It was a little challenging for the bowlers there. But the wickets here are slow and the bowlers are getting help. Both the wickets were different, but it is fun to play. Her pre-game preparation, however, eschews the modern trend of elaborate routines like data and analytics. No, nothing like that. I have been playing for so many years. I don't have any routine of that kind. I believe in what is going to happen, will happen. Nothing is the same every day and I believe more in that. The day we do well, the day will be good. If we don't do well, we can't do anything. There are ups and downs in the lives of the players and that's it. Her pre-game preparation, however, eschews the modern trend of elaborate routines like data and analytics. No, nothing like that. I have been playing for so many years. I don't have any routine of that kind. I believe in what is going to happen, will happen. WPL 2026: Have Learnt A Lot From Grace Harris And Nadine De Klerk, Says Gautami Naik

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting all-rounder Gautami Naik says she has drawn valuable lessons from overseas teammates Grace Harris and Nadine de Klerk as the franchise prepares for Thursday's Women's Premier League (WPL) final. Gautami made history earlier this season by becoming the first uncapped Indian player to score a fifty in the WPL by striking 73 off 55 balls in a crucial match against Gujarat Giants a knock where she curbed her usual aggressive instincts to give her side a memorable win. I can say I have learnt a lot from Grace Harris and Nadine de Klerk. I have bonded well with all of them. We are enjoying it together. I have learnt from Grace Harris that she keeps the game very simple. Her game plan is very simple - what will I play if I come to this area? Her shots, her application for the game is also very simple. She plays on the field with a lot of enjoyment. It doesn't feel like there is any pressure. She enjoys the game. I have learnt from Nadine about her never give up attitude. Nadine has done very well as a batter, bowler and fielder in all three departments, Gautami told IANS in a select virtual interaction organised by the franchise on Monday. Nadines ability to deliver in critical situations with both bat and ball has particularly a huge impact on Gautami. She has executed herself well by taking the stand where the team needed it and she took the wickets when the team required. She played a good knock in the first match, when there were no hopes and got the match in our favour. I am getting this experience from these overseas players in India and I think it will be very useful in the future, she said. Gautamis maiden WPL fifty transformed her life overnight, in terms of her life beyond the cricket field and inspiring young players at the academy where she practices in Pune. Yes, they were very happy. It was a good knock for me. Everything changed at random. I can't say that no one recognized me. Everyone was calling at my home. My relatives were calling and my mother was crying after calling me. She was proud of me and said that I played well. Everyone in my academy is looking at me as an inspiration. They also feel that if this girl can go to there, then we can also work hard and scale greater heights. Everyone is happy and excited about the finals. They believe that we will do well in it, she recalled. Though Gautami has played only four games in WPL 2026, she has developed a structured pre-match routine centered on meditation and staying calm, something which has become integral to her preparation over the past year. My routine before the match is very simple. I go and do my priming session. I do my meditation. We are in our own zone before the match. Everyone is in their own zone. Someone listens to songs and then we are in our own zone. Now we are going to play the final, so we have to prepare for it. How will the wicket be? Who will be the opponent? How can we get ready? We also analyse what the other bowlers are planning. How will the situation be created? We apply all this in practice and do things as per that continuously and repeatedly. So do your basics and routine well. My routine before the match is very simple. I go and do my priming session. I do my meditation. We are in our own zone before the match. Everyone is in their own zone. Someone listens to songs and then we are in our own zone. Now we are going to play the final, so we have to prepare for it. WPL: We've Learned A Lot From Gujarat & We Are Going To Come Out Stronger, Says DC Skipper Jemimah Ahead Of Eliminator Vs GG

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues has expressed confidence that her team has learned valuable lessons from their previous encounters with Gujarat Giants and is poised to come out stronger in the Womens Premier League (WPL) 2026 Eliminator on Tuesday. The winner will secure a spot in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). You never lose as long as you can learn. And I know we've gotten really close and tight with Gujarat. But I just believe in this team that we've learned a lot from them. And we are going to come out stronger, Rodrigues said in a video shared by WPL. The Delhi skipper also praised her teams collective performance, highlighting the critical role of her bowlers. I'm really happy, and more than anything, as a captain, I'm just proud of the way the team played. It's always the bowlers who make a captain look better on the field. A lot of credit goes to them because it's easy to set a field, but they have to come and execute. And they've done that really well. Rodrigues emphasised the teams depth in batting, noting the balance and maturity on display. Even with the bat, the kind of maturity, the kind of balance we have in our batting, I think we have a lot of depth. And we've seen even in the last game, the way Nikki (Prasad) and (Sneh) Rana, even till that number, we have batting. And we have a belief more than anything that we can take a game out from anywhere. Looking ahead, Rodrigues stressed the importance of staying focused on the present. And I think we're just going to keep things simple. Yeah, one game at a time. And try to focus on our strengths and executing our plans than thinking too far ahead of things. WPL 2026: Kapp, Wolvaardt, Jemimah Take DC To Playoffs, Beat UPW By Five Wickets (Ld)

With Niki Prasad: Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with 47 while Jemimah Rodrigues hit an unbeaten 34 as Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz by five wickets to secure a playoffs berth in the 2026 Womens Premier League (WPL) at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi on Sunday. Veteran pace bowling all-rounder Marizanne Kapp claimed three wickets as DC produced a disciplined bowling display to restrict UPW to 122/8. UPWs innings never found momentum, with Shikha Pandeys late cameo of 23 off 13 balls the only spark in an otherwise lacklustre effort. Simran Shaikh threatened to produce finishing fireworks with a brisk 22 before being dismissed, as DC picked wickets at regular intervals. DC were relentless, with Kapp, Chinelle Henry and Sree Charani sharing seven wickets to choke the scoring rate and deny UPW any breathing space, as they couldnt stitch together meaningful stands, with their stop-start batting exposing them yet again in the competition. DCs chase of 123 was far from straightforward, wobbling late when they needed 22 runs off as many balls with wickets tumbling. But Jemimah held her nerve to guide her side home with an unbeaten 34 off 18 deliveries to seal a tense game in DCs favour. Laura, meanwhile, steadied DCs innings initially in a knock laced with seven boundaries. UPW, who managed only 122/8 in their innings, were undone by their lack of runs and sloppy catching. Despite flashes of resistance, they never had enough on the board to seriously challenge DC. DC will now face Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator, while UP Warriorz and defending champions Mumbai Indians bow out of the competition. Chinelle Henry struck with the very first ball of the innings by trapping UP Warriorz skipper Meg Lanning lbw for a duck. Deepti Sharma and Charli Knott hit six boundaries between themselves, before an accurate Marizanne struck in her second over by removing Charli Knott with a short ball that cramped her for room and was caught behind. Marizanne ended the power-play by foxing Deepti with a slower ball and have her caught at cover. UPWs misery didnt end there as Harleen Deol struggled to get going, and was trapped lbw by Charani, while Deandra Dottin was also dismissed via lbw by Marizanne on review. Simran Shaikh tried to counterattack, cutting Kapp for four and later pulling Minnu Mani for back-to-back boundaries. But UPWs slide continued when Minnu Manis yorker surprised Shipra Giri and was caught by cover, while Simrans resistance ended when Chinelle had her caught at mid-off. Asha Sobhana briefly lifted spirits with a slog-sweep six off Sneh Rana, but Charani removed her by having her hole out to long-on. Shikha Pandey provided late fireworks, cutting Chinelle for four and pulling and thumping Nandni Sharma for two boundaries to make 23 not out off 13 balls, as DC ensured they held the upper hand at the halfway stage. DCs chase began on a wobbly note as Lizelle Lee miscued a slower delivery to mid-off against Deandra Dottin. Laura found her rhythm quickly, driving and pulling with authority. She was dropped twice - by Sophie Ecclestone and Asha Sobhana, and made the most of her reprieves. Shafali too began to open up after overturning an lbw decision on review, cutting and sweeping to keep the runs flowing. By the ninth over, the partnership had blossomed, with Laura striking four elegant boundaries off Kranti Gaud in the ninth over to push DC forward. The second-wicket stand of 73 runs ended when Deepti Sharma lured Laura into a lofted drive and was brilliantly caught by long-on. Shafali, who had struggled for fluency, fell soon after for 29, cutting Shikha Pandey straight to cover. From there, nervous faces increased in DC camp - Marizanne Kapp lofted Sophie to mid-off for a duck while Chinelle Henry was caught and bowled by Deepti. Shafali too began to open up after overturning an lbw decision on review, cutting and sweeping to keep the runs flowing. WPL 2026: Unchanged DC Elect To Bowl First Against UPW, Dottin Comes In

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: An unchanged Delhi Capitals have won the toss and elected to bowl first against UP Warriorz in a decisive WPL 2026 clash at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi on Sunday. The situation is simple for DC - a win takes them to 8 points and secures the final spot in the playoffs, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Giants have already entered. But if DC lose, they are likely to be knocked out because defending champions Mumbai Indians have a better net run rate. After winning the toss, DC skipper Jemimah Rodrigues felt the pitch could play better in the second innings. I think the team's pretty motivated. As a captain, to be honest, it's an easy job to lead this team because they're making me feel a lot at home. But I think the energy, the intensity, and the way we play our cricket is going to stay the same and there's no more negotiable for that. To be honest, it's always there in the back of the mind but I think we play our best cricket when we keep things really simple, stuck to what's in our control, stuck to playing the best cricket we possibly can and I know on the day our team plays the best cricket, nobody can defeat us, she said. Jemimah also admitted that the leadership stint at DC has aided her growth as a human being in WPL 2026. I think over the last few weeks, I feel like I've grown a lot more than I've ever grown in the years. But I think firstly, credit goes to my team, to the coach JB (Jonathan Batty) and our entire support staff and the players because they've released a lot of load off me. At the same time, I think for me, every game has been such a big learning and I think that's going to help me so much more in my cricketing career here, she said. UPW captain Meg Lanning said they have made three changes to their playing eleven Shipra Giri, Deandra Dottin and Charli Knott come in place of Shweta Sehrawat, Amy Jones and Chloe Tryon. The other night we got off to a reasonable start. We just couldn't finish it off. So there's some positives there. So hopefully we can put together the full 20 tonight. A little bit of both. Obviously, we still want to win the game. Everybody's very competitive and we want to get a win to finish, but we will give a couple of people opportunities tonight as well just to see what they've got, bring a bit of fresh energy to the team and hopefully it gets us the result. Fingers crossed, that's the winning combination, she said. WPL 2024: Mumbai Indians Lacked Consistency, Poor Start Hurt Campaign, Says Coach Lisa Keightley

Mumbai Indians head coach Lisa Keightley admitted that the defending champions never found consistency, and a poor start affected their campaign in the Women's Premier League (WPL). MI suffered an 11-run defeat against the Gujarat Giants at BCA Stadium on Friday. The loss defeat further dented the Mumbai Indians' chances of qualifying for the playoffs. We definitely struggled early to get going. Injuries and sicknesses to key players made things tough, and we had to adjust combinations more than we wanted. We could not build the partnerships needed to gain momentum, which put us under pressure straight away. Losing matches early in the tournament was not ideal. Keightley said to the media after the loss. Mumbais difficulties began even before the opening match when all-rounder Hayley Matthews sustained a quad niggle during a practice game after arriving in India. Keightley admitted that her absence for the opening matches forced the team to abandon its planned opening combination and go for a makeshift one, which continued throughout the season. We were very clear on what our lineup looked like going into the tournament. When Hayley was unavailable for the first few games, we had to work out new combinations. Replacing a world-class opening batter is never easy. Keightley said. After experimenting with several opening pairs from the start, Mumbai eventually backed S Sajana to partner with Matthews at the top of the order. Keightley praised the Indian all-rounder for adapting to a new role under pressure. We feel Sajana and Hayley are our best options at the top. She started the tournament very well in a different role and then had to make adjustments for the team. Facing world-class bowlers is never easy, but she prepared well and put the team first, she said. The head coach also focused on what went wrong for the team against the Giants. She felt that the two overs in which they conceded 36 runs were the turning point. The two overs after their time-out were a big shift. We had things under control until then, but that phase changed the game, she said. Keightley credited the opposition for handling the key moments better in the second innings when Harmanpreet Kaur was playing a brilliant knock. They bowled really well and were simply better than us when it mattered, she said. The two overs after their time-out were a big shift. We had things under control until then, but that phase changed the game, she said. WPL 2026: To Be Going Into The Playoffs With This Group Of Players Is Really Pleasing, Says Gardner

Skipper Ashleigh Gardner: Gujarat Giants finally broke their eight-match losing streak against Mumbai Indians by registering their first-ever win over the defending champions to book their spot in 2026 WPL playoffs. Skipper Ashleigh Gardner said she was pretty pleased to enter the playoffs with the current bunch of players. Obviously really happy with that performance. We knew this game was almost like a quarterfinal to make the playoffs, so there was a lot riding on it. There were plenty of positives to take. Like you said, the stats told one story, but we knew today was a new game. Wed played some really good cricket against them earlier and just couldnt get over the line. We believed what we were doing would work - we just needed to sustain it for longer. To be going into the playoffs with this group of players is really pleasing, said Gardner in the post-match presentation ceremony. Explaining the decision to bat first, Ashleigh said, I think it was a bit of both. Weve won all our games batting first, so theres confidence in that. If you look at our batting lineup, we want to take the game on in the powerplay and really set things up early, knowing weve got firepower through the middle and late order. If we can maximise those phases, it puts us in a strong position. I still think we couldve pushed the total a bit more, if Im being critical. But the bowlers did a fantastic job - taking wickets in clumps really stalls the run rate. With Kaur out there at the end, we all know how damaging she can be, so were pleased to have got the win, she said. Ashleigh also praised her bowling unit and singled out Georgia Warehams contribution. A bit of both. We saw that variation was key - the spinners played a big role, especially when the pace was taken off. Early on, the ball was gripping and turning, but once the dew sets in, it tends to skid on. We always talk about keeping the stumps in play for as long as possible. It sounds cliche, but on a black-soil wicket like this, the ball can shoot through and stay low. You want all modes of dismissal in play rather than bowling wide and letting batters settle. So for us, it was about keeping the plan really simple and executing it well. We know the world-class player Georgia is. Weve seen it in the Big Bash back home, where she led from the front for the Renegades with both bat and ball. Ive played a lot of cricket with her for Australia, so we know her capabilities. Its about giving her the best opportunity to play the role we want her to play - coming in through the middle, taking the game away from the bowlers. And shes one of the best leg-spinners in the world, so giving her the freedom to attack and take wickets in that middle phase was key. She did that brilliantly today, she elaborated. Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who fought valiantly with an unbeaten 82, rued the lack of support from the other end. For the first six overs, we werent able to execute our batting plans. Unfortunately, we lost an early wicket and couldnt score enough runs. We were hoping to build two solid partnerships, but sadly today we didnt have any impactful ones, she said. Reflecting on her mindset during the chase, Harmanpreet stated, I kept telling myself that I had to keep batting. At the other end, I was definitely looking for support, but unfortunately today no one was able to provide that. These things happen in games where theres a lot of pressure. Sometimes the team isnt able to execute the plans. Overall though, it was a good game. On MIs fielding lapses, Harmanpreet admitted, Yes, while fielding we did miss a few chances. I think we gave away around 16-17 extra runs, and that cost us. Still, we have a very good batting side. If there had been even one partnership with me, I think it could have changed the scenario. We tried our level best, but unfortunately we couldnt win the game. Reflecting on her mindset during the chase, Harmanpreet stated, I kept telling myself that I had to keep batting. Yes, I like to focus on things that are in my control. If things go our way, well be very happy. The good thing is that the tournament is still on. Lets see what happens tomorrow. But both fell in successive overs to Amelia and Nat Sciver-Brunt Anushka miscued the googly to long-on while Sophie pulled straight to deep mid-wicket. With GG at 71/3, Ashleigh and Georgia took their time to rebuild, before striking boundaries at will. Ashleigh upped the ante when she struck Hayley Matthews for three fours and a six in the 16th over. She and Georgia then hit Shabnim for two boundaries each to bring the innings back on track. Though Ashleigh fell in the 18th over, Georgia nailed a four and six off Nat to ensure GG went past 165-mark. Chasing 168, Hayley Matthews opened her account with a boundary off Renuka Singh in the very first over, while Sajeevan Sajana flicked, cut and lofted to pick three quick boundaries. The breakthrough for GG came in the fifth over when had Hayley chopping on to her stumps for six. Sajana was next to fall miscuing to mid-off against Kashvee Gautam, before Nat pulled straight to mid-wicket off Sophie. Harmanpreet walked in under pressure and immediately looked assured by taking boundaries off Georgia and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Amelia Kerr provided support by cutting and pulling to get her boundaries. But Georgia broke the 45-run stand in the 12th over when Amelia went for a cut, but was smartly caught by Beth Mooney behind the stumps. Harmanpreet, however, continued to anchor the chase slog-sweeping and driving her way, before sweeping Rajeshwari for six to bring up her 11th WPL fifty and sixth against GG. But GG fought back when Amanjot Kaur was stumped off Rajeshwari in the 17th over, while Sanskriti Gupta fell lbw to Wareham without scoring. On a sluggish surface, Gujarat lost Beth Mooney early before Sophie Devine and Anushka Sharma steadied the innings. After both departed in quick succession, Ashleigh and Georgia rebuilt with a composed 71-run stand off 43 balls. Though Ashleigh fell four runs short of a half-century after being stumped off Amelia Kerr, MIs standout bowler with 2-26, Georgia landed some important boundaries to take GG past 165-run mark, as 61 runs came off the last five overs. WPL 2026: We Still Havent Played Our Best Game Of Cricket Yet, Says GGs Wareham

Gujarat Giants: Gujarat Giants leg-spin bowling all-rounder Georgia Wareham said her side still has room for improvement despite strong recent performances in the 2026 Womens Premier League (WPL), stressing that both batting and bowling units are yet to deliver their best game. To be honest, all facets, I think. Weve started really well in the powerplay with the bat over the last couple of games. Sophie (Devine) has been unbelievable at the top for us. We probably just havent quite finished our innings with the bat in hand. Its been a little bit similar with the ball as well, weve let a few things slip towards the back end of the innings. But honestly, probably a little bit everywhere. We still havent played our best game of cricket yet. It probably gives us a little bit of freedom with the bat, not having a total in mind. It leaves all possibilities open, and weve defended quite well with the ball, Georgia told broadcasters ahead of the clash against Mumbai Indians at the BCA Stadium. The winner of Fridays clash will seal their spot in the playoffs, while the loser would be forced to wait till the result of Delhi Capitals-UP Warriorz clash to know their future progress in the competition. Georgia also revealed the new nickname for Sophie, who has been a clutch death bowler for GG as seen from her stopping Delhi Capitals twice from completing a chase in the final over. Weve seen how well Sophies been bowling, especially in the last couple of overs against DC - they were incredibly clutch from her. But I think weve done quite well as a bowling unit, winning those tight moments when defending. The winner of Fridays clash will seal their spot in the playoffs, while the loser would be forced to wait till the result of Delhi Capitals-UP Warriorz clash to know their future progress in the competition. Also Read: Live Cricket Score Asked what would be the key for her to excel in Vadodara, Georgia said, I think its been pretty well documented, just hitting the stumps as much as you possibly can. Especially with the variable bounce out here and the potential for spin. Most of the dismissals have been bowled or LBW, and the lower strike rates come when were hitting the stumps. So as bowlers, thats what weve got to try and do. Article Source: IANS

WPL 2026: Both Teams Unchanged As Gujarat Giants Elect To Bat Against Mumbai Indians

Renuka Singh Thakur: An unchanged Gujarat Giants won the toss and elected to bat first against Mumbai Indians in a decisive Womens Premier League (WPL) 2026 clash at the BCA Stadium, Kotambi, on Friday. The winner of Fridays clash will seal their spot in the playoffs. Second-placed Gujarat Giants are yet to beat third-ranked Mumbai Indians in the WPL so far. We just have to look at the games that weve won. Weve always set a really good marker early on in our innings. Ultimately, were basically playing a quarterfinal here, so we know we have to do both skills really well. But I think we can set the game up with the bat in hand and then hopefully try and defend it with the ball. The past is the past, and we just need to focus on what the present looks like. I know when we play really good cricket, we win games of cricket. We just have to reflect on the last game we played against these guys. We put on 190 and obviously werent able to defend it, but there are so many positives we can take out of that game, and also positives from this season. The stats speak for themselves, but I think we have a great opportunity tonight to try and change that, said GG skipper Ashleigh Gardner. Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur said she was wishing to bowl first. We wanted to bowl, so Im glad weve got that opportunity because as a team thats what we all decided. Its a great opportunity for us to start with a good powerplay. If were able to get a few wickets, that will be a great win for us. I feel every match is a new match. Every day is a new day. I know we have a great record, but at the same time, every day we have to come and play good cricket against them. Today is another day where we want to play good cricket, she said.
