Not time to reduce PMs security: Former RAW chief
Drones, sniper guns modern threats; Prime Ministers security non-negotiable RK News Service New Delhi, May 15: Former Intelligence chief Samant Goel has cautioned against reducing the Prime Ministers security cavalcade, warning that the international security situation remains highly volatile and recent attacks on global leaders highlight risks that India cannot afford to ignore. Goel said India faces active threats, especially from a neighbouring state sponsoring terrorism, and this is not the time to reduce protection. Modern threats now include drones and sniper guns, and as per current threat assessments, security must be reviewed and strengthened, not downsized, he said. The former intelligence chief said that for over 25 years, since his time as Gujarat Chief Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has faced serious threats due to his strong national security stance. Jihadi elementsdomestic, neighbouring and internationalcontinue to target him, and his security must remain the highest priority for the nation, he added. Goel said that security protocols should strictly follow threat assessments, not be used for show. He said many politicians misuse large convoys as status symbols, but the focus should be on genuine needs and maintaining anonymity, not revealing which vehicle the PM is in. He warned that a drastically reduced convoy of just two vehicles makes it far simpler for adversaries to identify and target the PMs vehicle, whereas larger, well-managed cavalcades with essential SPG components provide necessary confusion and protection layers. The former Intelligence chief also cautioned that when the PM reduces security at home, foreign countries may assume lower threat levels, which can impact security arrangements abroad, especially in nations with hostile elements. India should maintain strong protocols domestically to ensure robust protection overseas as well. Security for the Prime Minister is non-negotiable, he added.

Reducing PM security cavalcade not a great idea: Former RAW Secretary
New Delhi, May 15:Former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Secretary Samant Goel Friday cautioned against reducing the Prime Ministers security cavalcade, saying the prevailing threat environment requires stronger protection measures rather than downsizing security arrangements. Talking to ANI, Goel said the global security situation remains highly volatile and modern threats such as drone attacks and sniper weapons have significantly altered the security landscape. Referring to recent assassination attempts targeting former US President Donald Trump, Goel said even countries considered among the safest are vulnerable to evolving threats. The international security situation is highly volatile and recent attacks on Trump in a country considered very safe highlight the risks. India faces active threats, especially from a neighbouring state sponsoring terror. This is not the time to reduce protection, Goel said. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to face serious threats because of his strong national security stance and political profile. For over 25 years, since his time as Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi has faced serious threats due to his strong national security stance. Jihadi elements - domestic, neighbouring and international - continue to target him. His security must remain the highest priority for the nation, Goel said. He said that security protocols should be guided strictly by threat assessments and operational requirements rather than optics. Many politicians misuse large convoys as status symbols. But the focus in the Prime Ministers case should be on genuine security needs and maintaining anonymity, not revealing which vehicle he is travelling in, Goel said. He warned that drastically reducing the convoy size could compromise operational secrecy and make it easier for hostile elements to identify and target the Prime Ministers vehicle. A drastically reduced convoy of just two vehicles makes it far simpler for adversaries or attackers to identify and target the Prime Ministers vehicle. Larger, well-managed cavalcades with essential SPG components provide necessary confusion and protection layers, Goel said. The former RAW Secretary said Indias domestic security posture also influences the level of protection extended to the Prime Minister during foreign visits. When the Prime Minister reduces security at home, foreign countries notice and may assume lower threat levels. This can impact security arrangements abroad, especially in nations with hostile elements. India should maintain strong protocols domestically to ensure robust protection overseas too, he said. Goel said that under the current security environment, the nations interest demands reviewing and strengthening Prime Ministerial security, not downsizing it, while reiterating that the Prime Ministers security was non-negotiable.

IPL 2026: When And Where To Watch KKR Vs GT, Know All Details
Kolkata Knight Riders: Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will clash with 2022 winners Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 60th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 to be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday. KKR's journey has been full of ups and downs in the IPL 2026. They started off without a single win in the first six matches. The three-time champions, however, turned the tables after that as they won four consecutive matches. Their winning spree was finally halted by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their last match. After the defeat, KKR are currently placed at eighth position in the points table with 9 points in 11 matches. KKR currently remains at the edge in the playoff race. Ajinkya Rahane's side will need to win all their remaining matches to reach 15 points, following which the net run rate and other teams' performance will decide their fate. While on the other side, the Gujarat Titans are on a winning spree, riding on a five-match streak, they are currently placed at the number two spot in the points table with 16 points from 12 matches. The Shubman Gill-led side will become the first team to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs. They will also grab the number one spot in the points table. IPL 2026: GTs Fast Bowling Unit Dominance Down To Clarity, Lots Of Hard Work, Says Prasidh
Kolkata Knight Riders: Gujarat Titans fast bowler Prasidh Krishna says the dominance of the side's fast bowling unit in IPL 2026 is no accident, saying that this is simply the result of clarity and tons of hard work put in by a group that has known each other's game for a long time. GT's fast bowling unit has been a force to reckon with this season, having taken 72 wickets - 15 more than the next best RCB and SRH (57 each), at a best-in-league economy rate of 8.9. They are also the only side in IPL 2026 to have five bowlers - Kagiso Rabada (21 wickets), Rashid Khan (16), Prasidh (14), Mohammed Siraj (13) and Jason Holder (13) - cross the ten-wicket mark. It's been great. We have known each other for quite some time now. It just gets easier when somebody is doing really well, somebody is very clear. I think it's an accumulation of having a lot of clarity, having worked hard together a lot and it's just showing on the ground today, Prasidh said in an exclusive conversation with IANS, ahead of GT taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Saturday. The engine room of GTs bowling machine has been wreaking havoc in power-play, where Siraj and Rabada have bowled three overs each in five consecutive matches. In all, Rabada and Siraj have bowled through an entire power-play seven times in a single IPL season. The impact has been telling - GT have taken the most power-play wickets in this year (25), and have the best economy rate (8.6) in the six-over phase. Crucially, when they take three-plus wickets in the powerplay, they have won five out of six matches. Prasidh, who bagged the Purple Cap last year via 25 scalps, acknowledged how the early breakthroughs from Siraj and Rabada ease pressure on those who follow. It definitely eases out when you know you have such bowlers that can create so much damage in the powerplay. You come in with a scoreboard reading two, three and four wickets and that definitely helps, he said. Prasidh, who had a Player of the Match performance in GTs earlier win over Lucknow Super Giants and eked out a tight one-run win for the 2022 IPL winners over Delhi Capitals last month, stressed that his role is to maintain the early pressure created by Rabada and Siraj. All that I could try and do is maintain that pressure that the two of them put in. Then, Rashid comes on, Jason comes on, Arshad comes on, whoever comes on - we just make sure we are in a situation where we give ourselves enough room to pick up wickets and keep the pressure going, he said. A key addition to GTs fast bowling collective has been Holder, who has taken 13 wickets in just six innings at a remarkable economy rate of 6.4 and a strike rate of 10.3, with his last three innings yielding 10 wickets at 5.3 runs per over. He is very, very enjoyable I would say and also comes in with a lot of cricket under him. He has got a great brain, and has a lot of skill that he can put forward. It's just that I think - like I have been specifying about the fact that clarity is what has put us in this place, he comes in with a lot of clarity. He is a leader as well, has led teams before and walked around it. You can always bounce off ideas from everybody around in the team and Jason is one of them. It just puts all of us in a place of secure sense which only makes executing plans better, said Prasidh. In GTs eight wins this season, the Player of the Match award has gone to a bowler or bowling all-rounder seven times - Prasidh (once), Holder (twice), Rashid Khan (twice) and Rabada (twice). Hence, its no surprise that GT also has the best overall bowling economy in IPL 2026 (9). The architect behind this cohesion, in Prasidh's eyes, is head coach Ashish Nehra. He has been lovely. He is somebody who is always on his feet, trying to teach people, and trying to make sure they learn from his experiences. The chatter is always on and I think with Ashish Nehra around, you are always learning. When you sit down for a chai with him, when you are on the bus, or when you are on the ground having his favourite coconut water, there is chatter all the time. It's mostly something that I am very excited about and look forward to chatting with him all the time because everything that he says has a lot of meaning. It just helps you a lot as a bowler if you can pay attention to what he is saying, he elaborated. On GT's having a three-game winning streak at their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where they recently bowled out Sunrisers Hyderabad for just 86 in 14.5 overs on a seam friendly pitch, Prasidh was clear that the team's unity has been a driving factor. The domination is down to the team itself. It's not the conditions - definitely, Ahmedabad has been our home. We love playing there and we love the cheer that we get every single time - when there's a boundary hit or always on picking a wicket. It really is something that everybody looks forward to. We always have a chat saying, Ahmedabad, such a big ground, such a big crowd. That's definitely a factor for sure. But otherwise, if you have to bring it down to one thing, I think it's just the team. It's the unity and it's the way that we believe in each other is what has put us in a good situation, he said As for GT's playoffs prospects, which are very bright via occupying second spot with 16 points, Prasidh remained measured but optimistic. It's still in the reckoning. I would love to be in a place where I know how qualified I am to talk about all these things. But it's just a result of all the process and the hard work that the teams put in, he said. The battles, however, have not always gone Prasidhs way in the season, he conceded. Well, every situation, every game has been tough. The challenges have been real. I have showed up every single time. I could say that I have taken it head-on. There have been situations where I have done pretty well. There have been situations where the batsmen have gotten the better of me. So, I think it's a mixed bag like any other tournament, like any other game where you get into battles where you know there is a possibility that someone can outplay you. It's still been the same and working really hard to make sure I am on the better side and I am on the winning side in the battles that I get into, he said. On the game plan to bowl to fearless young batters like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Priyansh Arya, Prasidh signed off by saying that age is not a factor. The challenge is real. I think the age doesn't really mean anything for a cricketer. It's just about what impact he or she can create. Yes, they are young, they are fearless and have a lot of skill. Also Read: Live Cricket Score They are great, great batters and are doing a really good job. As bowlers, our job is not to look at who the batter is or what he is doing. 'To Pin Blame On Hardik Is Unfair, Nobody Has Turned Up': Ashwin Defends MI Captain Amid Struggles
T20 World Cup: With the Mumbai Indians enduring a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has come to the defence of captain Hardik Pandya, stating that the teams poor performances should not be pinned on him alone. MI, who have won just four of their 12 matches this season, were the second team to be eliminated from playoff contention, with their captain struggling with form and injury. I wouldn't review his captaincy this year at all. Honestly, when you have seasons like this, to pin the blame on the captain is quite unfair. Nobody has turned up. The team has failed to turn up and for Hardik to take the blame on himself is... you're asking him to do a little too much, Ashwin told ESPNcricinfo. Ashwin highlighted the context of Pandyas return to MI in 2024 after a successful stint with the Gujarat Titans, where he led the franchise to a title and a runners-up finish. He was there at Gujarat Titans. Had two fabulous seasons (one title and one runners-up finish). So clearly, as a leader, he did something right there. And when he returned to Mumbai Indians, he had to deal with quite a bit. It's not easy to replace an incumbent Indian captain, white-ball captain, such as Rohit Sharma. Five (six) titles in the IPL. He's won a T20 World Cup. And Hardik comes and replaces him. You've got a lot of fandom going around in the country. You should have a thick skin to survive the social media these days, Ashwin added. Ashwin also stressed that captaincy is not solely responsible for a teams failures as he said, I wouldn't judge his captaincy much because the bowling has also leaked (runs in) every direction. Every single time an over is bowled for six or seven runs, in comes a 15-run over. So what do you do as a captain? And sure, he's made some calls that have been debatable. (But) captaincy is the result of how your team is making you look. So which is why I believe when you have a good season, don't give too much credit to a captain. When you have a bad season, don't pin it on him. And similar with the coach; the coach sends the players out. So you can't blame him too much. This season, Pandyas struggles have been stark. Since returning to MI as captain in 2024, he has yet to win a trophy for the franchise. In IPL 2026, he scored just 146 runs from eight innings at a strike rate of 136.44, with a best of 40, and took only four wickets at an economy of 11.90. Beyond leadership, Ashwin expressed concern about Pandyas batting, noting unusual timing issues, stating, With his (Hardik's) batting, I found something quite interesting and strange, which is how late he's been on the ball. Is he going through something physically? We wouldn't be able to know that if there is something, then maybe that physical aspect will bring him back. And if he gets better, he'll come back to it. But he's been late on the hard-length deliveries. He's not someone who's going to miss hard-length deliveries. He hits it 15 rows back. That's a bit of a concern for me, whether he's suffering something physically from a back issue or hands, or does he have a tennis elbow? Is his bat heavier (than it should be)? Does he need to recalibrate that? Those are things that I would want to know, he added. Also Read: Live Cricket Score Hardik is a once-in-a-generation player. You don't find such players. And if India finds itself in a certain T20 mastery now, Hardik's been a linchpin in that. And to me, Hardik, the player, you can have a bad season. It's digestible for me. Especially after you had a (T20) World Cup like that. Hardik likes a bit of space. He kind of stays in his own zone. So the only thing I'd be worried about is how late he's been on the ball when he's batting. Apart from that, it's okay. I wouldn't judge any of the other aspects of his game, the former India spinner mentioned. Article Source: IANS

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that the conferment of the Presidents Colour on NDRF is not merely a recognition of the commendable services of NDRF, but also an acknowledgment by the Honble President of the contributions made by SDRFs, the entire machinery from Panchayats to States, NCC, NSS and thousands of Disaster volunteers engaged in service. He said that NDRF personnel go anywhere in the country with the motto Aapda Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra. Shri Shah said that wherever NDRF personnel have gone, in India or abroad, they have earned love and trust. Whenever a disaster strikes or is anticipated anywhere in the country, people feel reassured when NDRF personnel arrive believing that now rescue operations will succeed. Shri Shah said that over the last 20 years since its establishment, NDRF has earned the trust of 140 crore citizens through its successful operations during floods, earthquakes, cyclones and other disasters across the country. He said, the sight of NDRF personnel, who have saved more than 1.5 lakh lives and evacuated over 9 lakh people to safer locations, inspires a strong sense of security and trust. Union Home Minister said that the conferment of the Presidents Colour is recognition of the service, courage, valour and dedication of the entire NDRF. He said that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and NDRF have established India prominently on the global map in the field of disaster response, which is a matter of pride for all citizens and a special matter of pride for him as the Home Minister of the country. Amit Shah said that projects worth more than Rs. 116 crore were inaugurated and foundation stones laid today. He expressed confidence that these projects would further strengthen NDRFs ability to protect citizens from all kinds of disasters. Union Home Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, since 2014 India has not only worked towards Disaster Risk Reduction, but has now reached a stage where the country can move towards the goal of zero casualty. Wherever prior information about disasters is available through forecasting and the Meteorological Department, the objective is to ensure protection of lives and property. He added that NDMA has taken several policy decisions, issued numerous guidelines, successfully promoted public awareness and gradually making disaster preparedness a national culture. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that NDRF has set an excellent example by rescuing not only citizens but also speechless animals living alongside them. He said the aim is to ensure zero loss of human life and minimal damage to property during disasters. Amit Shah said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is also fully prepared to effectively tackle serious challenges like heatwaves. He said, the Modi Government is working towards reducing heatwave-related deaths to zero. Amit Shah said that the Ministry of Home Affairs and NDRF have placed great emphasis on capacity building and community participation. NDRF has undertaken the monumental task of training more than 8,500 personnel, over 10,000 civil defence workers and more than 2.20 lakh volunteers. He added that over 10,500 boatmen have also been trained in the last two years. Union Home Minister said that Disaster volunteers would prove highly useful in strengthening community-based disaster response and tackling all kinds of emergencies. He said, earlier, the response while dealing with disaster management was primarily relief-oriented, but the Modi Government has transformed it from being reactive to preventive and productive. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has established the concept of minimizing loss of life and property due to disasters as a global model. Over the last 12 years, disaster preparedness has evolved from being merely a system into a complete ecosystem. From Gram Panchayats to the Government of India, from IMD scientists to ordinary citizens, a new culture of coordinated action towards a common objective has emerged. Amit Shah said that India had witnessed several devastating natural disasters such as the Odisha Super Cyclone, Gujarat earthquake and Indian Ocean tsunami, which shook the lives of people across the country. Which highlighted the need for a robust disaster management framework. Subsequently, the Disaster Management Act was enacted, and NDMA and NDRF were established. He said that with 16 battalions, NDRF has today become a powerful force. Through its working methods, training support to SDRFs and joint operations, NDRF has enhanced its own strength. Measures like proactive deployment and pre-positioning have proved effective in minimizing damage. Shri Shah recalled that the 2008 Kosi floods in Bihar were a major test for NDRF. Subsequently, NDRF successfully handled many disasters such as flash floods in Dharali, cloudbursts in Chasoti, floods in Jammu, Punjab and Delhi, Cyclone Montha and Cyclone Ditwah. He said that NDRF has also worked effectively with society during major events like the Amarnath Yatra, Mahakumbh, Char Dham Yatra, Mani Mahesh Yatra, Sabarimala pilgrimage and the Jagannath Rath Yatra. Union Home Minister said that Prime Minister Modis 10-point agenda and 360-degree approach in disaster management have given a new direction to disaster risk management. It has strengthened areas such as risk mapping, early warning systems, community participation and formulation of guidelines. Shri Shah said that globally, India has emerged as an undisputed leader and first responder in disaster management. The principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam has been translated into practice and implemented on the ground. Inspired by Prime Minister Modi, India has taken global leadership in the field of disaster resilient infrastructure. Today, 48 countries have joined the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and are working together with India in this direction. Amit Shah congratulated all personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) across the country and said that since 2021 CAPF personnel have planted more than 7 crore trees nationwide. He said that this reflects the humanitarian outlook and environmental awareness of all CAPFs.

IPL 2026: Relentless Work Ethic, 150-sixes-a-day Regimen Fuel Urvil Patels Rise In CSK Colours
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Long before Urvil Patel joined the Chennai Super Kings camp in IPL 2026, the Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter was polishing his power-hitting game under his long-term coach Prakash Patani in Palampur. The rest days from his domestic cricket commitments, especially when in Ahmedabad, meant Urvil would go to Palampur and train under Patani at the ground from seven in the morning till 12 noon and would refuse to leave until he had perfected hitting 150 to 200 sixes. That unglamorous, self-imposed regimen now has yielded a rich return on investment for Urvil by hitting a 13-ball fifty the joint fastest half-century in IPL history - against Lucknow Super Giants and have the 33,000 spectators MA Chidambaram Stadium chant Uuur-vil, uuur-vil in chorus. Urvil entered CSK's playing eleven only after Ayush Mhatre was ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury, has since become the most compelling subplot in the franchises injury-hit campaign. His match-winning performance of 65 off just 23 balls in acing a chase of 204 has kept CSK's playoffs hopes alive. What stood out from Urvils whirlwind knock against LSG was not just the sheer power in the strokes, but the clarity in execution. The aggression had a method, the bat swing was fluent, the base was compact and once he spotted a scoring opportunity, there was no respite for bowlers. Equally striking was his intent to score fast, something which has been conspicuously absent in the CSK set-up for some time. For years, CSKs approach revolved around control and experience. Urvil is the total opposite of it - explosive and incredibly aggressive - a dimension that has given the side some freshness in their batting line-up. Seeing Urvil unleash carnage while being glued to his TV, Palampur-based Patani, lovingly called Dronacharya by the wicketkeeper-batter due to the Mahabharata references, still remembers one shot from that remarkable Sunday with immaculate detail: the slower ball from veteran pacer Mohammed Shami was outside the off-stump and Urvil just easily thumped it over long on. The 86-metre six he hit off Mohammed Shami - that really stood out for me. All the shots came out really well from his bat, but I am a little more fond of that shot. After all, it came off the ball of an international cricketer like him. I was thinking that it would be good if he makes a record and that it should somewhere be the biggest record in the competition by a batter, said Patani in an exclusive conversation with IANS, ahead of CSK facing LSG in Lucknow on Friday. The work ethic Patani describes did not begin with this IPL season. It is, by his account, the default mode of a cricketer who has never treated preparation as optional. This year, with IPL around, he would say, 'Sir, please help me with preparation, as T20 is the focus format now. He worked very hard for six hitting and was very attentive in preparation, he said. This self-accountability extends, according to Patani, into every other corner of Urvil's preparation after entering the IPL bandwagon, though his demeanour is still the same. His lunch and dinner diet is monitored with care, while his fitness work is consistent. It doesn't feel like he is an IPL player. He comes alone. He is very simple, very grounded, completely normal and can talk easily with anyone. He doesn't have any airs that I am such a big player now. There was tension within the Patani and Patel household when Urvil didnt get his chances and when Mhatre got injured, the coach reminded his student about grabbing his opportunities now. Before Sundays match, we did talk about upcoming games. When he wasnt playing, I told him to have patience as an opportunity was in the making once Mhatre was declared unfit. After that game, I told him Well played. He said Thank you sir, aapki kripa hai (its all your grace). Aapne mere upar achi mehnat kari, aur yeh uska parinaam hai (You did work very hard on me and all of this is a result of it). Urvil grew up in a family where cricket was not a familiar language. Both his parents are schoolteachers and when they recognised their son's aptitude for the sport, they enrolled him under Patani. I worked hard and taught him how to play. Parents are there and they have supported him a lot - drop in morning and pick him later. They have struggled a lot, and we are happy he is doing well. Kirat Damani, former Gujarat captain and now the chief mens selector at the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), has observed Urvil since the latters U23 days. What he watched develop over four years was a textbook case of a batter with exceptional natural gifts being more consistent in an unforgiving format seen from him hitting two centuries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In all the local and selection games, which formed the basis of selection into the Gujarat team, he was one of those players who would very easily impress the selectors with his clean hitting. Hitting sixes and boundaries for him has always been very easy. Earlier, there was a lack of consistency in terms of the hitting he used to do - like convert into big knocks after getting good starts. But like the great Virender Sehwag, when he started, I think, selection of shot making becomes very important when a batter has too many shots and that's exactly what happened with Urvil. He started off well, but he would later falter. At a score of 20s and 30s, he would end up giving away his wicket and play a shot which he could have avoided, said Damani to IANS. The remedy, Damani said, was not primarily technical. It came through sustained, direct conversation about what the team needed from Urvil at any given moment. I have worked very closely with him and at least in the last two years, I have been speaking with him a lot that he is the natural match winner in white-ball cricket and his focus should be trying to win more and more games for Gujarat. Therefore, we appointed him as the captain as well and is a very, very good wicket-keeper - very athletic and very strong. I had been talking and trying on how Urvil can convert his talent into performances that can win games. He has come a long way like he has started taking the responsibility and accountability of understanding the way he is required and needed by the team to play. Gujarat also has been playing fantastic cricket in the last couple of seasons in T20s and lot of credit for that goes to Urvil as well because he opens up the innings and sets up the game for us. He has been scoring more than one century, which is not usual in T20 cricket. He has come a long way and I am sure that this is the beginning of greater things for him. Damani, also a prominent real estate and commercial corporate lawyer, further believes an IPL century is a question of when it will come from Urvils bat, instead of whether it would come. There are a lot of talented players. But very few of them end up really delivering when there is pressure, a serious need to win and when there is a steep target. That knock had way more and bigger value compared to just any other knock - he had to make a mark while not having got a chance earlier, and the team badly needed a win. I am glad that he has made most of the chances. The way he batted, it was a very timely knock for the team also because CSK did require that win in the context of staying relevant for reaching the playoffs. I think a century is just coming down the road for him. I hope that next time he gets a start, he closes with a big hundred because he is used to getting centuries in this format of the game. I am hoping that a couple of knocks here will again open up a beautiful chance for him to play beyond the Gujarat state and the IPL - maybe for India or India A in the T20 format. Inside the CSK dressing room, Patani said, Patel has spoken of consistent backing from MS Dhoni, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and the franchise's support staff. Sundays astonishing knock was also Urvils first IPL fifty, and when it arrived, carried a significance that had been decided long before the game was played. Patani revealed that Patel had quietly resolved, somewhere in the months of pre-dawn sessions and solitary drives to the ground, that the milestone of getting a fifty in the IPL would be for his father. When Urvil got his fifty in 13 balls, he folded his hands in silent prayer and took out a note from his pocket, which said, This is for you Papa, apart from a line written for his family kuldevi (goddess) in Gujarati. Also Read: Live Cricket Score Regardless of how the remainder of IPL 2026 unfolds for Urvil or CSK, Patani remains convinced that bigger honours are in store for the young batter. He will play for India now. If not today, he will play for India tomorrow because he has so much power and it can be utilised well. That boy has hunar (talent). He is working hard, performing well and that's what we want, as it will be good for both Chennai and him. Article Source: IANS

NIA files 7,500-page chargesheet in Red Fort car bomb blast case
Srinagar, May 14: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday filed a 7,500-page chargesheet against 10 accused in connection with the November 2025 car bomb explosion near the Red Fort area that killed 11 people and injured several others. According to the NIA, the high-intensity Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) blast on November 10, 2025, had also caused extensive damage to surrounding property in the national capital. The chargesheet was filed before the NIA Special Court at Patiala House Courts in New Delhi under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. The agency said all 10 accused, including the alleged main conspirator Dr. Umer Un Nabi, who is deceased, were linked to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), described as an offshoot of Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). AQIS was declared a terrorist organisation by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2018. The accused named in the chargesheet include Aamir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Dr. Muzamil Shakeel, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Soyab, Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla and Yasir Ahmad Dar. Charges against Pulwama resident Dr. Umer Un Nabi, a former assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, have been proposed to be abated due to his death. The NIA said the chargesheet is based on an extensive investigation carried out across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Delhi-NCR region. Investigators examined 588 oral testimonies, over 395 documents and more than 200 seized material exhibits. According to the probe agency, some of the accused were radicalised medical professionals allegedly inspired by AQIS and AGuH ideology to execute the attack. The investigation revealed that the accused had reconstituted the AGuH outfit as AGuH Interim during a clandestine meeting in Srinagar in 2022 after an unsuccessful attempt to travel to Afghanistan through Turkey. The agency alleged that the group launched Operation Heavenly Hind with the objective of overthrowing the democratically elected Indian government and imposing Sharia rule. Investigators said the accused recruited new members, propagated extremist ideology, stockpiled arms and ammunition and manufactured explosives using commercially available chemicals. The NIA said the explosive used in the blast was Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP), which was allegedly prepared after repeated experiments conducted by the accused. The NIA further stated that forensic analysis, voice examination and DNA fingerprinting helped establish the identity of Dr. Umer Un Nabi. Evidence was collected from the blast site as well as locations in and around Al-Falah University in Faridabad and parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The probe also found that the accused had allegedly procured prohibited weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a Krinkov rifle and country-made pistols with live ammunition. The agency claimed the group had experimented with rocket and drone-mounted IEDs aimed at targeting security establishments in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country. The NIA said the accused had procured specialised laboratory equipment, electric circuits and switches through offline and online sources to further their activities. The agency added that plans to expand operations to other parts of India were thwarted after the terror module was busted. So far, 11 persons have been arrested in the case, while efforts are continuing to trace absconders whose involvement surfaced during the investigation, the NIA said.

Kashmirs Almond Industry Needs a Revival
Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Kashmir Valley, is the largest producer, accounting for over 90% of Indias almond production DR MEHRA-UD-DIN SHEIKH | DR MOHAMMED TAUSEEF ALI Almonds (Prunus amygdalus) are often called nuts, but they are actually drupes, consisting of an outer fleshy part called a hull, a hard shell, and an inner seed that is often referred to as a kernel. Almonds are believed to be native to the Mediterranean and Central to Western Asia. Almonds belong to the family of Rosaceae and genus Prunus. Ripe almonds look like large green fruits and often split open by themselves, exposing the hard shell covering the seed, which is the edible part. Almonds are of two types, depending on the nature of the tree. Sweet Almonds (Prunus amygdalus var. dulcis) Sweet almond trees are grown for their edible seed. (ii) Bitter Almonds (Prunus amygdalus var. amara)bitter almonds are grown for the bitter almond oil. Almonds are rich sources of protein, fibre, vitamin E, antioxidants, calcium, copper, magnesium and riboflavin. They are also a source of iron, potassium, zinc and the B vitamins niacin, thiamine and folate. A 30-gram serving has 13 g of healthy unsaturated fats and 1 g of saturated fat. Per 30-gram serving, almonds boast more vitamin E (7.7 mg), calcium (80 mg) and riboflavin (0.3 mg) than any other nut. Almonds also provide 6 grams of plant protein per 30-gram serving. Almonds are naturally salt-free/sodium-free and low in sugars. Almonds are incredibly versatile in food preparation, finding their place in both sweet and savoury dishes. They can be enjoyed raw, roasted, or processed into various forms like almond flour, almond butter, or almond milk. Almonds are used as a snack, a topping, or an ingredient in everything from cookies, chocolates, candies, cakes, stir-fries, ice creams, etc. Almond cultivation in India is primarily concentrated in the mountainous regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Kashmir Valley, is the largest producer, accounting for over 90% of Indias almond production. Other states, such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, are also looking into growing almonds in some of their best areas, but their contributions are very small. Almonds require a climate with slightly hot summer temperatures ranging from 30 to 35C and cool winters for plant growth and kernel filling. Unopened blossoms shall withstand cold up to -2.2C, but blossoms at the petal fall stage are damaged at 0.50C to -1.1C. The blossoms can withstand temperatures ranging from -2.2C to -3.3C for a short time, but if low temperatures continue for long hours, they get damaged easily. It has a low winter chilling requirement of about 300 to 600 hours at or below 7C. Because of this low chilling requirement (or short rest period) and the relatively low amount of heat, it brings the trees earlier into bloom; therefore, the almond is generally the earliest deciduous fruit or nut tree to flower, hence extremely vulnerable to frost injury where moderately late-spring frosts prevail. Almonds need ample rainfall or irrigation water for maximum production of well-filled almond nuts. The almond tree has been successfully grown on a wide range of soils; however, sandy loams are best. It is a deeply rooted tree, and its performance is better in deep, fertile, and well-drained soils. Almond trees have high N and P requirements. International and National scenario The area under almonds in the world is 2.3 mha, whereas production is 3.5 million tonnes. In this, the USA is the largest contributor in production with 1.79 million tonnes, followed by Spain, Australia, Turkey, Morocco, Syria and so on (FAOSTAT, 2025). Therefore, the USA produces 51.14% of the worlds almond production in 2025. The California region of the USA dominates almond production. At the national level, the area under almond is 10150 ha, and production is 11280 tonnes (National Horticulture data, 2021), for which J&K contributes dominantly over 90% and on which the Kashmir Valley contributes almost 99%. J&K and Himachal Pradesh have an area of 4.68 and 5.48 ha and production of 1.35 and 9.93 MT and productivity (t/ha) of 0.29 and 1.81, respectively (National Horticulture data, 2021). The almond cultivation in the valley is mainly in the districts of Pulwama, Budgam, Srinagar, Baramulla and Srinagar, where production exceeds 552 tonnes annually. There are vast stretches of almond plantation in these areas, and most of them are on highlands locally called karewas. The altitude of the Kashmir Valley varies across areas, ranging from 1500 to 1850 m amsl. The mean annual precipitation of the Kashmir Valley is around 1000 mm. Pulwama is the leading producer of almonds in the Union Territory (UT), with a production of 6468 metric tonnes (MT) in 202122, followed by Budgam (1940 MT), Baramulla (553 MT) and Srinagar (741 MT). Therefore, almost all of the production comes from the Kashmir Valley. The total area under UT is 5457 hectares (ha), and production is 9811 MT (Table). The figure indicates that almond production in J&K is experiencing an overall declining trend. The land under almond cultivation was recorded as 17247 ha (2001-02), which has now reduced to 5457 ha (2021-22). J&K UT has lost a whopping 11,790 hectares of land that used to be under almond cultivation. The decline in the area under almond cultivation in the UT during 2014 and 2015 was mainly attributed to the incessant rainfall in September 2014, which caused damage to almond orchards due to waterlogging on Karewas. 'We Need To Forget This Game As Quickly As We Can': Vettori After Loss Against GT
Chennai Super Kings: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori urged his players to quickly move on from their crushing 82-run defeat to the Gujarat Titans and focus on bringing fresh energy into their remaining IPL 2026 fixtures against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). SRH were bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs while chasing 168 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, as Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder shared six wickets between them. Addressing the team in the dressing room after the defeat, Vettori said the immediate priority was to leave the performance behind and focus on preparation for the remaining league games. I think we've got two challenges moving forward. The first challenge is to forget this game as quickly as we can because it actually holds no relevance for the next two fixtures that we have on surfaces that we're very acclimated to, Vettori said in a video released by SRH on X. So, this performance happened today, and obviously there'll be some disappointment, but there's not much we can take out of it that actually propels us forward to the next game, he added. The former New Zealand captain also highlighted the difficulty of maintaining intensity during the latter stages of a long tournament and admitted the team looked mentally and physically drained in the field. And at the back end of these very long tournaments, we're not a roller coaster, but we've been on top a lot. We've had a couple of blips. It's hard to actually push yourself, Vettori observed. And I think today in the field, I saw a group that looked maybe a little tired, maybe a little bit off the ball, and whether that translated into our batting, who knows? he said. Vettori stressed that SRHs preparation and energy levels before the upcoming clash against CSK would be crucial. The only thing that I want or the coaches want or Paddy wants is that when we hit training, you're ready to go and you have an understanding of how you want to prepare, he stated. Because I think that will be a difference maker for us going into that game against Chennai, and then if we get it going there, we can take it on to the game against RCB as well, he added. The SRH coach also encouraged players to take responsibility for their preparation and mindset ahead of the decisive matches. So the ball's in everyone's court now to relax, rest up, and then when we turn up together in Chennai, what sort of energy can you bring? Vettori said. The SRH coach also encouraged players to take responsibility for their preparation and mindset ahead of the decisive matches. 'He Is Becoming An Accomplished Leader': Rayudu Praises Gill's Captaincy
Narendra Modi Stadium: Former India batter Ambati Rayudu praised Shubman Gill for his growing maturity as captain, saying the Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper now looks sorted and settled while leading the side in IPL 2026. Gills leadership once again came under the spotlight after the Gujarat Titans (GT) climbed to the top of the points table with a dominant 82-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He looks so sorted and settled as a captain, compared to what we have seen him in the first season that he has led. So, he is now becoming an accomplished leader, slowly but steadily, he is really getting up there, Rayudu told ESPNCricinfo. Rayudu also reflected on discussions surrounding Gills handling of spin bowlers during his early days as captain, particularly during his stint leading India in Test cricket on the England tour. The parameter generally is how a captain handles spin, and that is something that was a point of discussion when he captained India in a couple of Test matches in England as well, he said. However, Rayudu believes Gill has adapted smartly to the Gujarat Titans current strengths by showing greater trust in the pace attack led by Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Jason Holder, and Prasidh Krishna. But apart from that, there have been occasions wherein he has shown greater faith in the faster bowlers than the spinners, and once you have the calibre of Rashid Khan, at times he has been under-bowled, Rayudu said. But having a line-up of five fast bowlers and if they are doing well and if they are successful, why do you want to unnecessarily disturb the pattern of play, he added. Rayudu further explained that Gills willingness to back his pacers instead of forcing spin into the attack reflects a growing tactical maturity. So, I think he is doing a pretty good job of, at times, not using the spinner can also be a good strategy, he said. Rayudu further explained that Gills willingness to back his pacers instead of forcing spin into the attack reflects a growing tactical maturity.
