Unable to find an ambulance, tribal man in Jharkhand sets off for home carrying his ailing wife
JHARKHAND: A tribal man at the Dhalbhumgarh Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jamshedpur, set off for home carrying his wife on his shoulders after he was not provided an ambulance or any other alternate arrangements. The incident highlights the struggles faced by people in rural areas, particularly in tribal communities, in accessing medical care and emergency services. Notably, Shukulmani Sabar had gone for treatment to CHC Dhalbhumgarh on Friday, but was referred to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for better treatment by doctors on Saturday. Neither an 108 ambulance was available on time, nor provided with any alternative arrangements. Consequently, the man left for home carrying his wife on his shoulder. However, after the incident was brought to the notice of health officials, an ambulance was dispatched from CHC Dhalbhumgarh, and the couple was brought back to the hospital. According to eyewitnesses, when Shukulmani could not walk a distance from the hospital, her husband, Gura Sabar, carried her on his shoulders. Holding her with one hand and her bag with the other, he kept on walking on the road heading towards their village, Mudathakura in Gudabandha. On the way, Pavitra Manna, a mobile shop owner, took a sensitive initiative and arranged an auto through his friend Gulshan to take the couple to Dhalbhumgarh Chowk. Reportedly, Shukulmani Sabar was admitted to the Community Health Centre on Friday. Her haemoglobin was 7.5 g/dL, and she complained of blood in her sputum. Her husband, Gura Sabar, said that his wife had been suffering from fever and diarrhoea for two to three weeks. Unable to find a vehicle and a place at the hospital, they left on foot without informing anyone. Medical officer, Dr Gopinath Mahali, said that after being referred to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur, the couple did not wait for the ambulance to come or even an auto and left for home on foot. When it was put in our notice, we sent an ambulance for them, but they refused to go to MGM Hospital for unknown reasons and were taken to CHC Gudabandha once again. But they insisted on going back to their village and were dropped off at their home by an ambulance, said the Medical Officer. They said that they had some work at home and hence would go to MGM Hospital on Sunday, he added. According to the Medical Officer, when the ambulance was sent to his home on Sunday, the couple refused to go to Jamshedpur for treatment. We are trying our best so that we can provide the woman, who is a Tuberculosis patient, the best possible treatment, but we are not getting proper cooperation from the other side, said the Medical Officer. Meanwhile, an explanation has been sought from the on-duty CHC staff who were present at the time of the incident, he added. The Civil Surgeon has also sought an explanation from the Medical Officer on the entire incident.

Jharkhand to host first-ever Run for Gajraj marathon to raise promote elephant conservation
RANCHI: Aimed at creating awareness for the conservation of wild animals, especially elephants, the Jharkhand forest department for the first time, is set to organise a marathon Run for Gajraj in the foothills of Dalma in Jamshedpur on October 5. According to officials, though the marathon is meant to create awareness for the protection and conservation of wild animals, the focus will be on the elephants. Both male and female elephants will participate in the event with separate prize money for each group, ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 31,000 across five categories. According to Jamshedpur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Saba Alam, An elephant marathon is being conducted as part of the Wildlife Week 2025 in Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary. This event is aimed at promoting eco-tourism, local tourism, and encouraging fitness and healthy living among citizens. Probably, this is the first time such an event, focused especially at the wild elephants, is being organised in Jharkhand. Earlier, a walkathon, Walk for Gajraj was also organised at Van Bhawan in Jamshedpur on Friday, he added. The DFO informed that more than 2500 participants have already registered to take part in the event, while the figure is likely to cross 3000 by the time it closes on Saturday. The marathon will be for 16 km and will be flagged off at Saharbeda Football Ground in the foothills of Dalma at 7.00 am on Sunday. It will pass through four villages to end at Saharbeda itself. Alam said that after a long gap, five elephants returned to Dalma a few days ago, a region that had otherwise been devoid of wild elephants. Forest department sources, however, noted that while only a few elephants remain at Dalma, a sizeable number are currently stationed at Chakulia in Ghatsila subdivision and at Chandil in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district. They attributed the exodus of elephants from Dalma to a 16-km-long trench dug by the West Bengal Forest Department five years ago, which disrupted the tuskers movement along the elephant corridor connecting the two states.

Maoists call October 15 bandh in five states over police suppression
RANCHI: The CPI (Maoist) has announced a bandh on 15 October against alleged suppression by security forces in five states, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and Chhattisgarh. In a press release issued by the Eastern Regional Bureau of CPI (Maoist), signed by Sanket, the group also declared the observance of a Resistance Week from 8 to 14 October to mobilise support and register opposition to the ongoing campaign by security forces in these states. According to the statement, the bandh was necessitated by the Union governments refusal to engage in dialogue with them. The release specifically accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of turning down talks, while security agencies intensified combing operations under Operation Kagar in Maoist-affected states. Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday rejected the ceasefire offer made by the Maoists, reiterating the governments commitment to eliminate violent Naxalites by the end of March next year. He said extremists were welcome to surrender and assured that security forces would not fire a single bullet at those who lay down arms. The Maoist statement further that on 15 September 2025, three senior leaders of the party were killed in what it described as a staged encounter. Those named include Central Committee member Sahdev Soren, Bihar-Jharkhand Special Area Committee member Raghunath Hembram, and Zonal Committee member Ram Khelawan Ganjhu. Several other cadres have also been targeted in similar incidents, accusing security forces of adopting unlawful methods to weaken the movement, it said. Top Maoist leaders remain prime targets for forces in Chhattisgarh; nine leaders eliminated in 2025 In the name of eliminating Maoists in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, not only individuals are being killed in fake encounters, but mass massacres are being carried out against innocent tribals and indigenous people. And our Home Minister is patting the backs of the police personnel, who murder tribal and indigenous people, stated the press release issued by the CPI (Maoist). The Maoists demanded that all arrested members be produced before the judiciary without delay and urged authorities to desist from conducting fake encounters. Warning of serious consequences if their demands are ignored, the statement clarified that essential services such as milk supply, press vehicles and ambulances carrying patients would be exempted from the 15 October bandh. In the wake of the alleged call of bandh by the Maoists, intelligence agencies have sounded high alerts in Jharkhand. Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta, however, termed the bandh call as merely an attempt to create panic. Naxalites are trying to spread fear through such statements. Wherever they emerge, strong action will be taken. The state police are fully prepared to face any challenge, said the DGP. Interestingly, a day after Amit Shah rejected the Naxalites ceasefire offer, a dossier prepared by the security and intelligence agencies revealed that after a series of arrests, surrenders and encounters, the top leadership of the Left-Wing Extremists has now been dwindling, with only 13 figures in its apex body, four members of the Politburo and nine members of the Central Committee. According to officials, the goal of eliminating armed Naxals by 31 March 2026 could be met much earlier, possibly by the end of this year.
Five-year-old dies after consuming cough syrup supplied under free medicine scheme in Rajasthan
JAIPUR: A five-year-old child died after consuming a cough syrup supplied under the Rajasthan governments free medicine scheme. The child, Nitish of Khori Brahmanan village in Sikar district, was unwell and down with cold and cough for a few days. Later, his mother brought him medicine available free of cost at Chirana CHC. But after drinking the cough medicine, Nitishs condition worsened and he was declared dead at the local hospital. The family refused to conduct a post-mortem and took the body after informing the police in writing. However, locals say this is not the first case where drinking this cough syrup has created complications. A few days ago, two children in Ajitgarh area reportedly fell ill after consuming the same medicine. ASI Rohitas Kumar Jangid said that Mukesh Sharma's son, Nitish, was given cough medicine from Chirana CHC on Sunday evening. His condition worsened at night, and he was given water. He died on Monday morning while being taken to the hospital. Medical Jurist Dr Ranjit Benda said that the family brought the child to the hospital in an unconscious state, where he was declared dead after examination. According to reports, the child's father runs a hotel in Jharkhand. On receiving information about the incident, he returned to his village. The child's family is currently grieving the death. It is worth noting that recently, the condition of a three-year-old child, the CHC in charge, and two ambulance drivers in Bayana in Bharatpur district had also deteriorated due to the same syrup. When the child was given medicine for cough treatment, his heartbeat increased, and he became unconscious. Following a complaint, the CHC in charge and two drivers consumed the medicine to test its reaction. Subsequently, the condition of these three people worsened, and they had to be admitted to the hospital. Following the incident, a ban was imposed on the distribution of the same batch of the medicine throughout Bharatpur district. Complaints such as vomiting, drowsiness, nervousness, dizziness, restlessness, and unconsciousness have been reported after consuming cough syrup in Bharatpur and Sikar districts. In response, the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation (RMSCL) has banned the sale and use of all 19 batches of the syrup supplied by the manufacturer and sent samples for testing. These alarming incidents in Sikar and Bharatpur have raised a serious question mark over the cough syrup being supplied under the free medicine scheme in Rajasthan.
Ranchi Diary | Vatican-themed puja pandal sparks row
A Vatican-inspired Durga Puja pandal in Ranchi has triggered controversy after the VHP and the BJP objected to its design, alleging that it hurt Hindu sentiments. The pandal, set up by RR Sporting Club, featured tall pillars, domes, and sculptures resembling European cathedrals. Inside, above the platform housing the Durga idol, framed portraits of Jesus, Mary, and other Christian figures were displayed. Visuals of the pandal went viral on social media, prompting criticism from Hindu organisations. Following the backlash, the organisers announced modifications to the structure. They removed crosses from statues and replaced Christian images with depictions of Hindu gods and goddesses. Naxal leadership shrinks to 13 as security forces tighten grip
NEW DELHI: A day after Union Minister Amit Shah rejected the Naxalites ceasefire offer , a dossier prepared by the security and intelligence agencies revealed that after a series of arrests, surrenders and encounters, the top leadership of the Left Wing Extremists has now been dwindling with only 13 figures in its apex body - four members of the Politburo and nine members of the Central Committee. According to officials, the goal of eliminating armed Naxals by March 31, 2026, could be met much earlier, possibly by the end of this year. However, they added that a few of the members of People Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) are still at large and they might try to escalate violence, but they too would meet the same fate. The dossier states that Madvi Hidma, the most-wanted Maoist leader believed to be heading the outfit, has been unable to maintain contact with the remaining top leadership. At its peak by mid-2000, the Politburo and the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist) had over two dozen members, who provided ideological base and formulated strategy for armed struggle, and kept the LWE network operative in more than 10 states of the country. But over the years, with better intelligence gathering and effective anti-Naxal operations by security forces, their leadership and support base have eroded, officials said. Why cant Centre accept Maoists ceasefire offer? asks CPIs D Raja Now with the elimination of high-value Naxal leaders in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand, including general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju, Chalapati and Modem Balakrishna, only a few aged senior operatives are surviving, they said. The only remaining challenge is the PLGA, if security forces neutralise it in the coming days, India could, for the first time in about 60 years, be free of the Naxal chain of command. Senior leaders such as Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad (killed in 2010), Kishanji alias Koteshwar Rao (killed in 2011) and Kottam Sudarshan (died in 2023). The year 2025 saw major successes on the part of the security forces, as Basavaraju alias Nambala Keshava Rao, Chalapati and Modem Balakrishna were among those killed. The Politburo of CPI (Maoist) has now been struggling to find ideological leaders. Only a few like Muppala Laxman Rao alias Ganapati, the acting General Secretary; Misir Besra, a senior ideologue; Mallojula Venugopal alias Bhupathi, an influential strategist; and Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram are surviving and trying to continue with their activities in the Red Zone, said a senior security official. The officials, quoting the dossier, said that there are currently around 8001,000 armed cadres active, which is far less than the 6,000 to 8,000 nearly a decade ago. But still they can be a potent threat, particularly in dense forest areas- Abujhmaad and Bastar, where the terrain is to their advantage, the official said, while adding that, but still, operations based on actionable intelligence might give the desired results.

PMLA appellate tribunal orders release of BMW in Soren land scam case
NEW DELHI: In a significant decision, the Appellate Tribunal constituted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) has issued a directive to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to release a BMW X7 luxury vehicle seized from the Delhi residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The seizure by the ED, executed on January 29, 2024, was part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged land scam linked to money laundering involving Soren, as he maintained that the said high-end luxury car neither belonged to him nor his family members. The Tribunals order, with its detailed reasoning still pending, mandates the vehicles release within six weeks, while preserving the EDs right to take further action if new evidence linking the car to the case emerges. The EDs probe aimed to uncover whether properties or assets, including the seized vehicle, were linked to proceeds of crime as defined under the PMLA. The case has been politically charged, given Sorens stature as a prominent leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and his tenure as CM of the state. Soren was arrested in connection with the case but was granted bail by the HC in June 2024, a decision later affirmed by Supreme Court the next month. The PMLA Appellate Tribunal allowed the appeal filed by Bhagwandas Holdings Pvt. Ltd (BHPL), the registered car owner of the BMW X7. The company, represented by advocates Rajesh Inamdar, Rohit Sharma and Shashwat Anand, argued that neither BHPL nor its directors had been named as accused in the Enforcement Case Information Report or the prosecution complaint filed by the ED. It was emphasised by the counsel the seized vehicle had never been identified or proven to be proceeds of crime. It was further contended that the probe agency had failed to produce any material evidence.
In riding around the country in 50 days, pavana lives her dream
THRISSUR: At the age of 25, when most youngsters think about careers and their future, Pavana V S took the decision to make her dream come true. On July 31, the Thrissur native set out on an unplanned journey that, on September 21, ended up crossing 20 states covering more than 8,500km. A karate coach, Pavana had dreamt of an all-India trip since the age of 15. But, education and other responsibilities kept her busy. Finally, while preparing for imminent wedlock, she decided to do something out the ordinary. On her Himalayan 411, she witnessed the unique life and culture of different states. It took me 50 days to cover 20 states. I started without any planning and without following a particular route map. However, I ate the authentic, seasonal local dishes. I stayed with local families whenever possible. During the trip, many cautioned about safety risks. But the welcoming attitude and support of residents in each location kept me safe, shared Pavana, who runs Evoke Academy, which offers training in martial arts. Though Pavana wanted to spend more time in places such as Kashmir, Leh-Ladakh, and Uttarakhand, inclement weather played spoilsport. While most motorists stick to a plan on such adventures, Pavana did it her own way. She took her time at tourist locations and even went on trekking expeditions. When it comes to all-India trips, there is a misconception that only rich people can do it. But I am proof that anyone who has the passion for travel and adventure can pursue it. I rode a bike weighing over 200kg throughout the country without a single accident. I didnt depend on anyone to realise my dream. This has been a personal triumph, she added. Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha were among the states she visited. I had many memorable experiences, mostly involving local people. I am a foodie and explored all kinds of food available at each destination, Pavana said.
Jharkhand considers armed guards for Palamu Tiger Reserve on lines of Kaziranga amid rising threats
RANCHI: Forest officials in Jharkhand are planning to deploy armed guards by providing weapons to the forest personnel in Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) on the lines of Kaziranga Tiger Reserve and other national parks located in different states. According to Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Wildlife, Paritosh Upadhyaya, as of now, tigers and other wild animals in PTR are being protected by a joint team of forest guards and unarmed home guards as and when required, but efforts are allegedly being made to equip them with arms. As of now, we are protecting the tigers from poaching with the help of home guards borrowed from the local administration, but in future a proposal may be sent to the Centre for armed guards on the lines of other states like Kaziranga and other national parks or sanctuaries, said the PCCF (Wildlife). It is a long process as procurement of arms has to be done, but it is in the plan and a proposal may be sent to the Centre in this regard, he added. According to PCCF (Wildlife) Paritosh Upadhyaya, sometimes armed guards become essential for the protection of wildlife animals from poaching in PTR. Meanwhile, a temporary arrangement is allegedly being made by demanding armed home guards from the local administration. For this, the two Deputy Directors and three Forest Range Officers have been given the powers of Special Executive Magistrate. Those who have been given magisterial powers are Deputy Director, North Division, Prajesh Kant Jena, Deputy Director (South Division) Kumar Ashish, along with the Forest Range Officers, Umesh Kumar Dubey, Ajay Toppo and Nand Kumar Mahto. According to Kumar Ashish, since the poachers who enter PTR are fully armed, the forest personnel who come across them feel helpless as they are unarmed. Therefore, it has become necessary to provide armed guards also. For the time being, we have written to the local administration to provide two units each for the North and South Division of PTR, said Deputy Director (South Division) Kumar Ashish. It will create a sense of deterrence among the poachers, reducing 90 per cent of the poaching incidents, he added. According to Ashish, the increasing number of tigers in PTR also calls for the necessity of armed guards. Kaziranga and other tiger reserves located in several other states have armed guards with sophisticated weapons and patrolling is done by them only, therefore, PTR also requires the same arrangements, he said. Notably, Palamu Tiger Reserve falls in a Maoist-affected area. Budha Pahar, a former Maoist training centre, is also within the Palamu Tiger Reserve, due to which several major Maoist attacks have allegedly taken place within PTR. Reportedly, about 13 forest personnel have been martyred in the Palamu Tiger Reserve area since the 1990s and many others were also allegedly punished by the Maoists for taking action against smuggling on several occasions. Spread over 1,149 square kilometres, the Palamu Tiger Reserve is home to numerous wildlife animals, including tigers, elephants, bison, spotted deer and bears. Currently, the Palamu Tiger Reserve area is home to six tigers, around 180 elephants, over 10,000 spotted deer, over 50 bison and around 200 wolves. They are being protected by 110 forest guards and 300 trackers with the help of sticks and sickles. The patrolling team also has sticks and sickles only.

The amount will be determined on the basis of an influencers category, nano, micro, macro or mega, as well as the quality of their content, audience reach, views and levels of engagement. Officials in the tourism department believe that the initiative will bring Jharkhands scenic landscapes, tribal traditions, folk art, festivals and unique cuisine to a wider audience. The scheme is open to active social media creators on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter). Priority will be given to travel vloggers, bloggers, food and culture influencers and short video or reel creators who can creatively showcase the states attractions. The initiative is expected not only to boost footfall in the states tourist destinations but also to provide content creators with financial support and professional recognition. The government believes the programme will particularly benefit local youth, offering them an opportunity to monetise their creativity while serving as ambassadors of Jharkhands culture. By leveraging the power of social media, the state hopes to carve out a distinct identity for itself in Indias competitive tourism market and beyond. In this regard, the state has identified 528 tourist destinations for this campaign, spread across four categories. These include locations such as Netarhats serene hills, Hazaribagh and Betla National Parks, the Baidyanath Dham and Trikut Hills in Deoghar, and spiritual and cultural heritage sites like Rajrappa, the Maluti temples, Parasnath, Lugu Buru and McCluskieganj. Creators can also focus their reels on tribal festivals like Sarhul, Karma and Sohrai, which reflect the vibrant traditions of the state. To support participants, the Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDCL) will provide two days of free accommodation at its hotels, travel arrangements through government vehicles and assistance from the forest department and eco-tourism authorities. The initiative also seeks to engage rural communities, offering local youth employment opportunities and contributing to the economic development of villages. Suspended IAS officer Vinay Choubey moves Jharkhand HC for bail in land scam case
RANCHI: Suspended IAS officer Vinay Choubey on Thursday approached the Jharkhand High Court seeking bail in connection with a land scam case in Hazaribagh. He is accused in a corruption case linked to the alleged illegal conversion of government land during his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Hazaribagh. Choubey moved the High Court after a Hazaribagh court rejected his bail application in the case on 16 September. He has challenged the lower courts order before the High Court. According to the prosecution, Choubey is accused of illegally converting 2.75 acres of Khasmahal land, designated to remain under government control, and reallocating it to private individuals. The case is being investigated by the states Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Earlier, on 19 August, Choubey, who has been in judicial custody since 20 May this year in connection with a separate Rs 38-crore liquor scam, was granted default bail by the ACB court in Ranchi under Section 187(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The court granted him bail on the condition that he must inform the court before leaving the state. Notably, Choubey was granted bail after the ACB failed to file a chargesheet within the stipulated time limit of 90 days. The investigating agency informed the court that the delay was due to the non-receipt of prosecution sanction against the accused. Additionally, he has been directed not to change his mobile number during the trial. The ACB court also instructed Choubey to furnish two personal bonds of Rs 25,000 each. Choubey, who remains in custody, is currently undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. The suspended IAS officer faces multiple charges linked to both the land conversion and liquor scam cases. His latest bail plea in the land scam matter is now pending before the Jharkhand High Court.
Interstate online fraud busted in Jharkhand; one arrested
RANCHI: The cyber crime police under the CID in Jharkhand have busted a major online trading fraud racket and arrested a 19-year-old youth in connection with the case. The arrested youth has been identified as Yashvardhan Kumar from Deoghar. Originally from Gaya in Bihar, he had been living in Deoghar at the time of the arrest. According to CID officials, the racket was run through a fake trading application called CANTILLON . Using WhatsApp as the main platform, fraudsters lured people to invest in the app by promising high returns. Fake profits were displayed on the app to convince investors that they were earning real money. Once the victims invested, they were persuaded to deposit more funds. However, when they tried to withdraw their money, the app was shut down, leaving them with heavy losses. Police said the racket defrauded people of nearly Rs 44 lakh, which was siphoned into multiple bank accounts opened under different names. The CANTILLON app showed dummy profits to mislead investors, but no withdrawals were possible. In this way, Rs 44 lakh was diverted into several accounts, an official statement said. During the raid, police seized a mobile phone, two SIM cards, a bank account, and WhatsApp chats linked to the fraud. Further investigation is underway to trace other accounts, handlers, and digital assets connected to this interstate cyber fraud network, the CID added. As per details from the Ministry of Home Affairs, 46 complaints were filed against the accuseds Bank of Baroda account (No. 26450200001669) from victims across several states, including Telangana (4), Tamil Nadu (4), Karnataka (8), Gujarat (6), Maharashtra (4), Uttar Pradesh (5), and others. The CID is continuing efforts to track the wider network behind the scam.
PMLA Appellate Tribunal orders immediate release of seized BMW X7 in Hemant Soren land scam case
NEW DELHI: In a significant decision on Thursday, the Appellate Tribunal constituted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), presided over by Member Shri V. Anandarajan, issued a directive to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to release a BMW X7 luxury vehicle seized from the Delhi residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The seizure, executed on January 29, 2024, was part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged land scam linked to money laundering involving CM Soren, as he maintained that the said high end luxury car was neither belong to him nor he or his family members used it. The Tribunals order, with its detailed reasoning still pending, mandates the release of the vehicle within six weeks, while preserving the EDs right to take further action if new evidence linking the car to the case emerges. This ruling marks a significant development in a high-profile case that has drawn considerable attention due to its political and legal implications. The BMW X7 -- at a price tag of Rs 1.30 crore -- in question was seized on January 29, 2024 during a raid conducted by the ED at Sorens Delhi residence as part of an investigation under the PMLA, centered on allegations of a land scam in Jharkhand. The EDs probe aimed to uncover whether properties or assets, including the seized vehicle, were linked to proceeds of crime as defined under the PMLA. The case has been politically charged, given Sorens stature as a prominent leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and his tenure as Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Soren himself was also even arrested in connection with the case but was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court in June 2024, a decision later affirmed by the Supreme Court in July 2024. The PMLA Appellate Tribunal allowed the appeal filed by Bhagwandas Holdings Pvt. Ltd (BHPL), the registered car owner of the BMW X7. The company, represented by advocates Rajesh Inamdar, Rohit Sharma and Shashwat Anand, argued that neither BHPL nor its directors had been named as accused in the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) or the prosecution complaint filed by the ED. It was emphasized by the counsel of the that the seized vehicle had never been identified or proven to be proceeds of crime, a critical requirement under the PMLA for justifying the retention of seized assets. It was further contended that the ED had failed to produce any material evidence linking the BMW X7 to money laundering, despite the investigation spanning over 1 year and 9 months since the seizure. The ED, represented by advocate Himanshu Jain, strongly opposed the appeal, defending the seizure of the BMW X7. The ED argued that the investigation into the alleged land scam was still ongoing and that the vehicle could potentially be linked to illicit activities under scrutiny. The agency urged the Tribunal to uphold the seizure, asserting that releasing the car prematurely could hinder the investigation. However, the EDs arguments did not provide specific evidence tying the vehicle to the alleged money laundering, relying instead on the broader scope of the ongoing probe. After hearing arguments from both sides, the PMLA Appellate Tribunal, under Member Anandarajan, ruled in favor of BHPL. The Tribunal held that the EDs continued retention of the BMW X7 could not be justified in the absence of concrete evidence linking the vehicle to the proceeds of crime. The decision underscored the legal principle that seizures under the PMLA must be supported by substantive evidence, particularly when assets belong to entities not directly implicated in the alleged offense. The Tribunal directed the ED to release the vehicle within six weeks, ensuring that the company could reclaim its property without further delay. However, in a balanced approach, the order also granted the ED the liberty to take appropriate action if new evidence emerges in the future that establishes a connection between the vehicle and the alleged money laundering activities. The detailed order, which is expected to provide further clarity on the Tribunals reasoning, is yet to be released. The Chief Ministers arrest in January 2024 had sparked significant controversy, with allegations of political vendetta leveled against the EDs actions. Sorens bail, first granted by the Jharkhand High Court in June 2024 and later upheld by the Supreme Court in July 2024, was seen as a setback for the EDs case.
D Raja re-elected CPI General Secretary amid age limit exemption row
NEW DELHI: Veteran Left leader D Raja has been re-elected as General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) for a consecutive term, following an exemption from the partys age limit rule for members of the national secretariat. However, the Kerala unit of the party registered its opposition to this relaxation. Raja, who became the first Dalit leader to head a communist party in India, was initially appointed in 2019 following the retirement of Sudhakar Reddy. He was re-elected at the Party Congress held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, in 2022. Sources revealed that although there were heated exchanges regarding the age cap, consensus was eventually reached to relax the 75-year age limit in Rajas case. The party constitution allows for a 75-year age limit. Raja was re-elected due to his popularity, experience, and strong rapport with leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc. His continued leadership was also seen as crucial in light of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, party leaders said. CPI must emerge as a strong force that can shape Indias political course: D Raja Earlier, the names of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) General Secretary Amarjeet Kaur and former Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam, a comparatively younger face, were also discussed for the post. Speculation was rife about the appointment of a Deputy General Secretary, but no decision was taken in that regard. The state units of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana had called for strict adherence to the age limit. In contrast, Raja received support from Maharashtra and several northern states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The decision was finalised during the national executive meeting held on Wednesday night as part of the 25th Party Congress in Chandigarh. All members of the national secretariat, executive, and councils, including Raja, were elected unanimously, confirmed Rajya Sabha floor leader and national executive member P Sandosh Kumar. Sandosh Kumar, from Kerala, is among the youngest and newest entrants to the national secretariat. In total, five leaders retired from the secretariat. New members elected to the panel include Prekash Babu (Kerala), Santosh Kumar (Bihar), and Palla Venkat Reddy (Telangana). The Party Congress concluded with the election of Raja as General Secretary, alongside an 11-member national secretariat, a 31-member national executive, and 125 national council members, in addition to 13 candidate members, said Kumar. According to a party statement, K Ramakrishna (Andhra Pradesh) will serve as an invitee to the national secretariat. Pallab Sengupta, President of the World Peace Council and long-time head of CPIs international department, will remain a permanent invitee to all higher bodies of the party. Mitra Vashu has been elected as Treasurer.

MHA redeploys CAPF troops from J&K to intensify final offensive against naxals
NEW DELHI: In light of recent successes by security forces against Left-Wing Extremists in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to redeploy over 75 percent of the 425 additional Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies, initially deployed for the Amarnath Yatra and later retained in Jammu & Kashmir, to Naxal-affected regions for a final offensive against the extremists driven by Leftist ideology, officials said on Thursday. According to officials, this redeployment is part of the governments broader strategy to inject renewed vigour into operations targeting Naxal operatives and their leadership. The troops withdrawn from J&K are expected to be deployed in the Red Zone in the coming weeks, a senior security official said. The movement of forces from J&K to the Naxal-dominated regions of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Maharashtra is in line with Union Home Minister Amit Shahs target of eliminating Naxalism from the country by 31 March 2026, a deadline he has reiterated on multiple occasions. A senior security official stated, We have planned large-scale, decisive operations in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Maharashtra aimed at neutralising top Maoist leaders. The objective is to dismantle their command structure and ultimately eradicate Naxalism. The plan prioritises Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha, particularly in light of intelligence reports indicating the presence of several high-ranking Maoist leaders in these regions. Area domination efforts will incorporate new tactical strategies, the official added. Meanwhile, counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir continue under the Indian Army, local police, and the CAPFs. However, no additional reinforcements are currently planned, based on an assessment of the prevailing security scenario. The governments immediate priority has shifted to the so-called Red Zones. Underscoring this more aggressive approach, security forces achieved a significant breakthrough in the Abhujmad forests of Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Two senior CPI (Maoist) Central Committee members, Raju Dada alias Katta Ramachandra Reddy (63) and Kosa Dada alias Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy (67), were killed in an encounter near the ChhattisgarhMaharashtra border. Both carried bounties of Rs 40 lakh each and were longstanding members of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee. They were accused of orchestrating several deadly attacks on security personnel and civilians over the past three decades.
Elephant-calf rescued from 25-foot deep well in Jharkhand
RANCHI: An elephant and its calf, which had fallen into a 25-foot deep well while crossing farmland in Ramgarh on Thursday morning, were safely rescued by forest officials. After over two hours of effort, the pair were freed with the help of a JCB machine, allowing them to walk back into the jungle. It took us around two hours to rescue the elephant and its calf by creating a slope down to the bottom of the well with the help of a JCB machine. Finally, the elephant and its calf were rescued and led back into the jungle, said Ramgarh Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Nitish Kumar. The DFO added that the elephant and calf might have separated from a herd of 42 wild elephants roaming the region for the past few weeks. The herd has since moved to Bokaro after crossing Ramgarhs borders, he said. Now, efforts will be made to reunite this elephant and its calf with the herd, the DFO stated. Elephant-calf falls into well, rescue operation underway in Jharkhand Earlier in the morning, the elephant and its calf were spotted in the 25-foot deep well at Hesapoda village in Parsadih forest under Gola police station in Ramgarh. Upon receiving information about the incident, forest officials rushed to the site and began rescue operations. According to villagers, the well, approximately 25 feet deep, was dug under the MNREGA scheme on the land of Dinaram Manjhi. Dense bushes surrounding the well likely caused the elephants not to notice it and fall straight in. Both elephants survived, possibly due to the shallow water in the well. However, due to the depth, they were unable to escape on their own.
10 Maoists surrender before Jharkhand police in Chaibasa
The Maoists were influenced by the State governments attractive surrender and rehabilitation policy and decided to join the mainstream, police said
Day after DGPs 'Maoists will not see the dawn of 2026' warning, 10 cadres surrender in Jharkhand
RANCHI: Ten members of the CPI (Maoist), including four women, surrendered before Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta in Chaibasa on Thursday during a mass surrender programme organised by the state police and the CRPF under the Jharkhand governments Maoist surrender and rehabilitation policy. The surrender came a day after Gupta, speaking in Gumla, said Maoists would not be able to see the dawn of 2026 and appealed to them to lay down arms. Officials said the cadres were reportedly influenced by the governments rehabilitation policy in their decision to surrender. The surrendered members include CPI (Maoist) area committee member Rando Boipai alias Kranti Boipai, Gardi Koda, John alias Johan Purti, Nirso Sidu alias Asha, Ghonor Devgam, Gomeya Koda alias Tarzan, Kaira Koda, Kairi Kayam alias Gulanchi, Savitri Gope alias Muturi alias Football, and Pradeep Singh Munda. Six of the surrendered cadres are men and four are women. Officials noted that Maoist activity is now largely limited to the Saranda forests, where a handful of cadres are reportedly hiding and have planted thousands of IEDs. Security forces face challenges in the area due to these explosives. Since November 2022, Jharkhand Police and the CRPF have launched joint operations in Kolhan and Saranda forests based on intelligence about the presence of senior Maoist leaders, including Misir Besra, a CPI (Maoist) commander with a Rs 1 crore bounty on his head. According to police data, 9,631 operations have been conducted in West Singhbhum district since 2022, resulting in the arrest of 175 Maoists, 10 killed in encounters, and recovery of large quantities of explosives, weapons, cartridges, and other materials. New police camps have also been established in the past three years in extremist-affected areas to maintain security and restrict Maoist influence. Officials described the surrender of 10 cadres at one time as one of the largest in recent years.
Elephant-calf falls into well, rescue operation underway in Jharkhand
RANCHI: An elephant and its calf fell into a 25-feet deep well while crossing farmland at Hesapoda village in Parsadih forest under Gola police station in Ramgarh on Thursday. After being informed about the incident, forest officials rushed to the spot, and a rescue operation was launched. According to forest officials, both the mother elephant and its calf are safe, and efforts are underway to rescue them. A rescue operation is being planned using a JCB machine and other equipment, said one of the forest officials. They have appealed to villagers to maintain a distance from the spot, avoid crowding, and cooperate with the forest officials during the rescue. Forest officers said the elephants fell into the well during the night. Villagers informed them on Thursday morning, and the rescue team was dispatched immediately. A herd of 42 wild elephants has been roaming the area for the past week. The herd has now moved towards the Bokaro forest range. We suspect the elephant and its calf were part of the herd and fell into the well while moving to Bokaro, said Ramgarh DFO. The well is in an open area without any protective barrier. Since the well is covered with bushes, it was not visible to the elephants. Villagers reported that the well, dug under the MNREGA scheme on the land of Dinaram Manjhi, is approximately 25 feet deep. Dense bushes around it may have caused the elephants to fall in without noticing it. Both elephants survived, possibly due to the shallow water in the well. However, because of the depth, they are unable to get out on their own. The Forest Department has appealed to villagers to maintain a safe distance, cooperate in the rescue efforts, and avoid crowding.
Maoists in Jharkhand will not be able to see dawn of 2026: DGP Anurag Gupta
RANCHI: Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta said that the Maoists in Jharkhand will not be able to see the dawn of 2026; either they will be gunned down by the security forces or they will be put behind bars. While talking to the media persons in Gumla on Wednesday, the DGP informed that as many as 32 Maoists of different organisations have been killed in Jharkhand in 2025. As of now, a total of 32 rebels belonging to different Maoist outfit have been killed in 2025. Now, all I can say is, any of the Maoists in Jharkhand would not be able to see the dawn of 2026; they will either by gunned down by security forces or put behind bars, said the DGP. Those who dare to open fire on our police personnel or officers, will be given a reply in that language only, he added. DGP said that the remaining Maoists, rebels, gangsters, organised criminals, extortionists or whatever name you want to call them, will be finished from Jharkhand. The DGP also warned the Maoists that if they want to save their lives, they should put their guns down before the police as they cannot run away from them any more. He said the police have accurate intelligence inputs about their whereabouts, the weapons they have, who they meet, where they stay, from where they are getting money, and who is funding them. Police are capable of reaching out to them and neutralising them; therefore, I suggest to them that they should surrender before the police as soon as possible or their end is not very far, said the DGP. Notably, the DGP was on a visit to Gumla on Wednesday to boost the morale of the security forces, who had gunned down three members of the banned Maoist outfit, Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), including two Sub-zonal Commanders. The security forces also recovered a cache of sophisticated weapons, including a 5.56 Rifle, a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) and an INSAS rifle, from the spot. The deceased were identified as Lalu Lohara, Chhotu Oraon, and Sujit Oraon. Lalu Lohara and Chhotu Oraon were both sub-zonal commanders. Chhotu Lohara carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head and was wanted in several criminal cases. Sujit Oraon was working as a cadre in his team. Interestingly, the deadline given by Jharkhand DGP is three months ahead of the deadline given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has appealed the Maoists to drop their guns as the Central government is determined to free the country of Maoism and Naxal ideology by March 31, 2026. Notably, Maoists are now restricted only to Saranda jungles in Jharkhand as they have been wiped out from other pockets of the state. According to an estimate, a handful of Maoists are supposed to be hiding in the Saranda jungles, where they have planted thousands of IEDs, which has become a challenge for the security forces. The state police have launched a joint operation in Kolhan and Saranda jungles of Chaibasa in November 2022 following intelligence inputs about the presence of top Maoist leaders in the region, including Misir Besra, a senior CPI(Maoist) commander with a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head. Meanwhile, according to official data, a total of 18 Maoists were killed in the year 2020, eight in 2021. By the year 2022 this number increased to 12, after this it further rose to 14 in 2023, and 11 in 2024. However, 20 security personnel have also been martyred during these years.
Jharkhand government gears up to launch Maiyan Balwaan Yojana
RANCHI: The Jharkhand government is set to introduce the Maiyan Balwaan Yojana, a new initiative aimed at empowering women in the state. Building on the success of the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana, which provides financial assistance to women, the new scheme focuses on promoting entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance. Under the Maiyan Balwaan Yojana, women in the state will receive the necessary financial assistance and resources to start a business through the Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth (JOHAR) Scheme. According to government sources, the scheme is likely to be launched on the 25th anniversary of Jharkhand Foundation Day on November 15. The plan is being prepared and will soon be submitted to the Cabinet for approval. Officials said the primary objective of the scheme is to economically empower women beneficiaries of the Maiya Samman Yojana. Efforts will be made to support women entrepreneurs and engage them in self-employment. Under the scheme, women beneficiaries will be linked to self-help groups (SHGs) and provided with opportunities for self-employment. The government wants the monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 under the Maiya Samman Yojana not to remain stagnant in banks. Women should use it to establish their own businesses, for which the state government will provide funds under the JOHAR Yojana, said an official, requesting anonymity. The blueprint for the scheme is being prepared, following which a proposal will be sent to the cabinet for approval. The official also stated that the department is making all efforts to launch the scheme by November 15. The Chief Minister has repeatedly emphasised that women should use the funds under the Maiyan Samman Yojana for the overall development of themselves and their families. He also assured that if additional funds are required for self-employment, the government is ready to provide support. Notably, under the Maiyan Samman Yojana, the state government is distributing approximately Rs 1,250 crore per month to beneficiaries. The new scheme aims to ensure that this financial assistance becomes not just a relief but also a vehicle for change and self-reliance. The Maiyan Samman Yojana, Hemant Soren Governments flagship programme, provides women between the ages of 18-49 with Rs 2,500 every month. Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore tabled the annual budget of Rs 1,45,400 crore for FY 2025-26 in the Jharkhand Assembly on March 3, out of which Rs 13,363 crore has been allocated for the Maiyan Samman Yojana. Launched to provide direct financial assistance to economically vulnerable women, the Maiyan Samman Yojana has become a cornerstone of Jharkhands social welfare strategy. The scheme played a key role in the last assembly election, where it was seen as a game-changer. The World Bank has also praised the Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana for its contribution to economic development and poverty alleviation in the state.

Despite high accident rate, Keralas fatality lowest
KOCHI: Kerala is in a league of its own when it comes to saving road accident victims. The state may rank third in terms of number of road accidents, but its severity rate is the lowest in the country. According to the Road Accidents in India report of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Kerala recorded 48,091 accidents in 2023, in which 4,080 people died. That translates to 8.5 fatalities per 100 accidents. The national average is 36. Experts say this lower fatality is largely due to Keralas healthcare density and quick response. The contrast gets starker when stacked against states with the worst figures. Mizoram tops the severity table with a shocking 90.6 deaths per 100 accidents (96 fatalities in 106 crashes), followed by Bihar at 80.6 (8,873 deaths in 11,014 accidents) and Jharkhand at 78.5 (4,173 deaths in 5,315 accidents). Big states also paint a grim picture. Tamil Nadu, which reported the most number of accidents 67,213 in 2023 saw 18,347 deaths, a severity rate of 27.3. In Uttar Pradesh, with the fourth-worst crash numbers, at 44,534, as many as 23,652 people died, pushing its severity rate to 53.1. At 55,327, Madhya Pradesh posted the second most number of accidents. In Kerala, Malappuram and Kochi topped the accident charts with 3,253 and 2,803 crashes, respectively. However, in terms of accident severity, Kollam had the worst record within the state with nearly 10% of victims succumbing to injuries, followed by Malappuram (9.49%). Kerala is almost like a city-state with multispecialty hospitals within an hours reach. People are rushed to trauma-care units within the golden hour, unlike in other states where highways run through isolated stretches, says transport expert Upendra Narayan. Dr Sulfi Noohu, national coordinator of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), points to Keralas widespread trauma-care network and relatively slower roads. We dont have high-speed highways like in other states, which ironically helps reduce deaths from speeding. But we still have a long way to go to reach western standards, he cautions. Interestingly, road deaths in Kerala dipped by 237 in 2023 compared to 2022, breaking the post-lockdown uptrend. While most states have seen worsening severity rates since 2000, Kerala has proved that rapid medical response and road conditions can make the difference between life and death. City-wise severity rate in Kerala Kollam: 9.87% (211 deaths in 2,136 accidents) Malappuram: 9.49% (309 deaths from 3,253 accidents) Thrissur: 8.84% (231 out of 2,613) Kozhikode: 7.84% (172 out of 2,194) Kochi: 6.31% (177 out of 2,803) Thiruvananthapuram: 6.19% (137 out of 2,213) Kannur: 7.15% (117 out of 1,636)

The visitors will hear the echo of waterfalls, feel the breeze and even see a herd of elephants running toward them; they will also be able to watch a lion hunting, he said. The centre will feature technology that will bring nature to life within the hall. While several centres in the country offer various types of presentations, the one being developed in Betla will be different. The concept of nature interpretation is not new and existed in Betla since 1970s. However, this is the first attempt to develop it on a high-tech level, said the Deputy Director. He added that it will also be a significant hub for researchers and nature lovers. According to Jena, the theme of the centre is Threads of Nature, to convey that nature and humans are not separate.

Agitation in Jharkhand throws train services off track, over 100 trains hit
Agitation by the Kurmi community in Jharkhand disrupted train operations under the East Central Railway zone, stranding thousands of passengers across eastern India. Protesters demanded Scheduled Tribe status and inclusion of the Kurmali language in the Constitution. Over 100 trains were cancelled, diverted, or short-terminated, with services gradually restoring after the agitation ended.
DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand has achieved a notable milestone in reducing school dropout rates at the upper primary and secondary levels, emerging as the second-best performing state in secondary education nationally, trailing only behind Jharkhand. However, this achievement is offset by a concerning rise in dropout rates at the primary school level, where the state now lags behind several peers. According to the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 202425 report, released by the Union Ministry of Education, Uttarakhands secondary dropout rate has declined from 5.6% to 4.6%, placing it ahead of traditionally high-performing states like Kerala. At the upper primary level, dropout rates fell from 2.3% last year to 1.4% this year. Though still trailing behind states such as Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Telangana, and Maharashtra in this category, Uttarakhand has outperformed peer states like Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The UDISE+ report, which compiles real-time data from all recognised schools from pre-primary to Class 12, offers a comprehensive snapshot of the countrys educational landscape. However, this progress at the upper levels is contrasted by setbacks in primary education. Uttarakhand's primary school dropout rate has increased from 0.8% in 202324 to 0.9% this year. This is particularly troubling given that neighbouring states such as Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, both formed alongside Uttarakhand in 2000, have achieved zero primary school dropouts. Compounding this concern is the disproportionate ratio of teachers and schools to students in Uttarakhands basic education system. Despite having one teacher for every 18 students at the primary level, overall enrolment continues to fall, and dropout rates are inching upwards. Uttarakhands Education Minister, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, attributed the state's success at higher levels to proactive policymaking. We were among the first states to implement the National Education Policy. We've introduced several innovative measures, high-tech and hybrid classrooms, and integration of school education with skill development, Dr Rawat told this newspaper. This focus on employment-oriented education has helped reduce dropout rates at upper levels, he said, expressing confidence in the state's long-term educational outlook. With the rapid strides being made to raise education standards, Uttarakhand will soon set a benchmark for the entire nation. The report ultimately reveals a dual reality: a state making commendable progress in retaining students in upper grades while grappling with foundational challenges in early education, challenges that will require urgent, targeted interventions to resolve.

Notably, the Kurmi communitys push for ST status has intensified in recent years. The first major protest began in 2022 and continued for nine days.

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday reiterated his charges of 'blatant irregularities' in the approval process for Adani Group's Dhirauli coal mining project. He cited a 2023 reply in the Lok Sabha by the Coal Ministry to claim that the project falls in an area protected under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution. Ramesh alleged that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change's rebuttal of his statements earlier, stating that the mining land did not fall in the area protected under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution, was false. There was no immediate reaction from the Environment Ministry or the Adani Group on his allegations. In a rebuttal to Ramesh's allegations last week, the Environment Ministry had said, Both Stage-I and Stage-II approvals have been duly granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Allegations with regard to violations of constitutional protections are factually incorrect and misleading. I had raised the issue of the blatant irregularities in the approval process for Modani's Dhirauli coal mining project on September 12th. The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MOEF&CC) responded almost immediately, claiming that -- the mining land did not fall in the area protected under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution; the required legal process under the Forest Right Act, 2006 had been duly completed, Ramesh said on X on Wednesday. 12 , (MOEF&CC) - (i) pic.twitter.com/CtHo8TomfN Jairam Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) September 17, 2025 The first claim is false. On August 9, 2023, the then Union Minister of Coal answered clearly and categorically in the Lok Sabha that the Dhirauli coal mining project actually fell in an area protected under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution, he said and shared the screenshot of the ministry's reply. As far as the second claim is concerned, the Forest Rights Act, 2006 includes not just individual forest rights but also community forest resource rights (CFR) and habitat rights of particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), Ramesh said. The Dhirauli coal mine involves the diversion of about 3,500 acres of forest land across five villages, with at least three other villages adjacent to these forests likely to be dependent on them, he pointed out. All three types of tribal rights in these eight villages have to be settled first, Ramesh argued. On March 31, 2022, the District Collector had certified that the complete process for identification and settlement of rights under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, had been carried out and that the rights of the particularly vulnerable tribal groups had been safeguarded. But by the Madhya Pradesh government's own information, no community rights or habitat rights in the entire district of Singrauli, in which these eight villages are located, have been recognised till now, the Congress leader said. Adani Power to invest $3 billion in 2,400 MW power plant in Bihar Jharkhand forms high-level panel to probe land acquisition for Adani power project in Godda Last Friday, Ramesh had alleged that the Adani Group has begun cutting trees on government and forest land for its coal mine project in Madhya Pradesh's Dhirauli in latant violation of the Forest Rights Act. The state government, however, had rejected the allegation as baseless. The former environment minister had also claimed that the Modi government imposed this allotment from above in 2019, and is now rushing ahead with it in 2025 without the essential legal clearances. Refuting the charges, the Madhya Pradesh government had said all necessary approvals and processes have been duly followed and the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted Stage-II approval (final approval) for the Dhirauli project. It claimed that the project land neither comes under the PESA area nor the Fifth Schedule Area, and a public hearing had been carried out as per rules and with the Gram Sabha approval. It also said the process of paying total compensation of Rs 18 crore to 49 patta owners is underway at the district level. Earlier this month, Adani Power said it had received the coal ministry approval to commence mining operations at the Dhirauli mine in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. According to the statement, Adani Power has received approval from the Ministry of Coal to begin operations at the Dhirauli mine.

Jharkhand government to roll out 700 medical stores to provide free medicine for poor
RANCHI: Taking a giant leap in health care, 700 Abua Medical Stores will be opened across Jharkhand to make free medicines available to the poor. Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari revealed this ambitious move, aiming to provide free medicines to economically weaker sections, significantly boosting accessibility and affordability of healthcare for the poor. According to Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed the opening of Abua Medical Stores across the State, so that free medicines could be made available to the poor. 700 stores will be opened in the first phase, which will be increased further in the next phase, said Ansari. Ansari said that the Chief Minister has clearly stated that the priority of the government is that medicines should reach the remote areas of the State and no poor person should die due to lack of treatment. The minister said this on Monday after meeting the Chief Minister Hemant Soren for a review meeting over the preparations for the nationwide Healthy WomenEmpowered Families campaign, which will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Indore on September 17. In Jharkhand, the campaign will be observed until October 2 with health camps at the panchayat, block and medical college levels. Praising the visionary thinking of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Ansari said that this scheme will strengthen the poor and no one will die due to lack of medicine. He termed this initiative as an important step towards the empowerment of the poor and needy families. Officials in the Health Department informed that the Abua Medical Stores will function in a manner similar to the Jan Aushadhi Kendra, but with a crucial difference. While Jan Aushadhi outlets offer low-cost generic medicines, the states new medical stores will provide essential drugs completely free of charge, said a senior official requesting anonymity. The Health Department will handle procurement centrally, with supplies then channelled through district warehouses to ensure quality and an uninterrupted stock, he added. These stores will stock medicines for common ailments such as fever, infections, diabetes, hypertension and maternal health, along with essential life-saving drugs. These stores will be located near government hospitals, community health centres and even in rural panchayats to ensure last-mile delivery. Digital monitoring systems is also being considered to track inventory and prevent shortages. The government expects that the scheme will significantly reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses for families living below the poverty line and reinforce public trust in the states healthcare system. By offering medicines free of cost, Jharkhand aims to remove even that barrier for its most vulnerable citizens. Earlier on Tuesday, speaking at a function held at the Institute of Public Health in Namkum, Ansari had announced a game-changing healthcare overhaul for the State, unveiling plans for a cutting-edge 2,100-bed super-speciality kidney hospital and six new medical colleges. According to the minister, these projects, along with other reforms, would transform the states medical landscape within the next two years.

Several states are already enacted some are enacting, recently Rajasthan has also enacted a law, he contended. On similar voices with Singh, advocate Vrinda Grover, appearing for the National Federation of Indian Women, told the top court that her client has also filed a similar application to stay the laws.
