Dhanbad families refuse relocation; demand technical solution as toxic gas leak persists

RANCHI: The families affected by the toxic gas leak in Dhanbads Kenduadih have directly rejected the proposal to relocate to a safer place. They made it clear on Monday that they would not abandon their ancestral land and relocate to the proposed sites at Belgadia or Karmatand. According to the affected families, the land is the heritage of their generations, and there is no question of leaving it. We would rather die, but not leave our land, they said unanimously. They believe that instead of displacing them, BCCL management should focus on extracting the gas and finding a technical solution to the problem. Relocating would provide neither employment nor essential amenities, further worsening their lives, they said. Notably, even after more than six days of the gas leak incident, no concrete measures have been taken to deal with the situation. The affected families alleged that they have long been demanding that BCCL start the underground mine's fan and extract gas through drilling, but the management is not taking their demands seriously and is only insisting on displacement. Raising slogans against BCCL management, they warned that they will intensify their protest if a permanent technical solution to the gas leak is not found soon. They also made it clear that they would not leave Kenduadih till their death. Social activist and local resident Awadhesh Paswan also asserted that no one is going anywhere. He alleged that the administration and BCCL management are trying to evict poor families under the guise of safety so that the mafia may be given free rein to extract coal. Dhanbad administration struggles to relocate 10,000 residents after toxic gas leak in Kenduadih Meanwhile, they have given BCCL management an ultimatum of two days; if no concrete solution is found, activities of all outsourcing companies in the vicinity will be halted. In between, a special team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached from Ranchi on Sunday and assessed the affected area. The 32-member team also measured the intensity of the gas leak. NDRF officials said that the situation is very dangerous and frightening. According to them, normally, if the amount of carbon monoxide gas in the air exceeds 50 ppm, the situation is considered dangerous. However, in Rajput Basti, it was found to be up to 1680 ppm. On Saturday night, seventy people went to the relief camp set up by BCCL and an outsourcing company for 500 affected people and had their food, but no one stayed there. Notably, the gas leak was first reported on Wednesday in Rajput Basti, where two women died and more than two dozen residents, mostly women and children, were admitted to BCCLs Kustore Regional Hospital and Central Hospital, Dhanbad. The impact of the gas is being felt in the Rajput Basti, Masjid Mohalla, and Officers Colony areas of Kenduadih, home to a population of approximately 10,000. The persistent stench and gas leakage have made life extremely difficult for the residents. Dhanbad DC orders detailed enquiry into toxic gas leak incident that killed two

Dhanbad administration struggles to relocate 10,000 residents after toxic gas leak in Kenduadih

RANCHI: The Dhanbad district administration has intensified efforts to relocate 10,000 residents of Kenduadih following a suspected toxic gas leak that killed two women and left several others ill on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan said the administration is facing challenges in convincing families to move to the proposed relocation site at Belgadia, with many residents citing minor concerns despite repeated assurances. The gas leak was first reported in Rajput Basti, where more than two dozen people, mostly women and children, were admitted to BCCLs Kustore Regional Hospital and Central Hospital, Dhanbad. Although no new cases have been reported, locals continue to detect a faint gas odor in the area. The affected zones include Rajput Basti, Masjid Mohalla, and Officers Colony, which together house around 10,000 residents. The affected families were concerned about where they will keep their cattle if relocated to the proposed site. We have agreed to provide cattle sheds, yet they are still reluctant to move, Ranjan said, emphasizing that relocation is necessary to prevent any future untoward incidents. He added that the administration is handling the crisis with the highest level of urgency, coordinating multiple agencies, monitoring the area, reviewing evacuation plans, and ensuring timely medical support. Meanwhile, amid rising tension and protests, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team from Ranchi entered Rajput Basti on Sunday to assess the suspected poisonous gas. Residents reportedly tried to block the team, alleging that BCCL was using the gas leak as a pretext to clear the settlement for a planned coal project. Nearly 400 unauthorised families currently live in the fire-affected danger zone of Rajput Basti. Local resident Lal Bahadur Singh said, BCCL is trying to evict poor families under the guise of safety, noting that previous relocation attempts had failed due to community resistance. Scientific assessments following the leak revealed extremely high levels of carbon monoxide (CO), with readings reaching 1,500 parts per million (PPM)around 30 times the permissible limit. Exposure to CO is harmful even at 50 PPM, causes headaches at 2 PPM, and can lead to dizziness, nausea, and unconsciousness at 8 PPM, highlighting the urgent need for evacuation. The administration continues to engage with residents to implement the relocation plan while ensuring their safety and well-being.

Dhanbad DC orders detailed enquiry into toxic gas leak incident that killed two

RANCHI: Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aditya Ranjan has ordered a detailed inquiry into the toxic gas leak incident , which was reported from the Putki Balihari Colliery Area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad. He also directed officials to immediately relocate the residents living in the affected zones to safer locations. Notably, at least two women allegedly were killed while several others complained of vomiting tendency and headache due to leakage of toxic carbon monoxide gas near Children's Park in Dhanbad's Kenduadih, affected by underground fire for more than a century. Taking note of the gravity of the situation, Dhanbad DC convened an emergency review meeting with senior representatives of BCCL, the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), the Health Department, Disaster Management and JRDA. During the meeting, the DC formed a committee to determine how the leak occurred, what gaps existed in safety protocols and which agencies failed to respond effectively. The investigation will examine each incident in detail and determine whose negligence led to the loss of life. The committee will investigate whose negligence led to the casualties. Strict action will be taken on the basis of the report, said the DC. The inquiry will be conducted under the Mines Act, 1952 and Disaster Management Regulation, 2025. According to locals, Priyanka Devi died late Wednesday evening, while another woman, Lalita Devi, died on Thursday. Besides that, a dozen children and women in the area have fallen ill, they said. However, the exact cause of death for both women will only be clear after the arrival of postmortem reports. These frequent deaths have fueled locals anger. Protesting against the local administration and BCCL, locals blocked Dhanbad-Ranchi Road for several hours by burning tyres on the road. Protesters claimed that a thick haze has been lingered since morning. Their homes have filled up with smoke, causing breathing problems for children and the elderly. Eye irritation, cough and choking problems have also increased, they said. They fear that if the underground fire expands further, the entire area could be in grave danger.

Suspected gas leak kills two, leaves several others ill in Jharkhand's Dhanbad

RANCHI: At least two women allegedly died while several others complained of vomiting tendency and headache due to leakage of toxic carbon monoxide gas for the last two days near Children's Park in Dhanbad's Kenduadih, affected by underground fire for more than a century. Though efforts are being made to seal the leaking spots, authorities have urged people to vacate the area as a precautionary measure. According to locals, the impact of the gas is being felt in the Rajput Basti, Masjid Mohalla and Officers Colony areas of Kenduadih, home to a population of approximately 10,000. The persistent stench and gas leakage have made life difficult for the residents. Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner also asserted that two people have died due to the gas leakage. Yes, two people apparently died due to the gas leakage. Meanwhile, we have done a makeshift arrangement for nearly 400 families living in the area, said the DC Aditya Ranjan. Eviction notice has already been issued long back in the wake of the underground fire in the region, but people are reluctant to vacate the place, he added. According to Ranjan, taking a fresh initiative, the district administration has been making announcements through the public address system, appealing to people to vacate the place as soon as possible. Though the permanent solution is eviction, as a temporary solution, we have directed to make two ambulances available, both by the district administration and Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), each, said the DC. #WATCH | Dhanbad, Jharkhand: 2 women lost their lives as a gas leak in Kenduadih escalated. Marandi claims Dhanbad coal mafia switching to Apple FaceTime to evade ED surveillance

RANCHI: Making a sensational revelation, State BJP Chief and Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Babulal Marandi, has claimed that fearing the possibility of normal phone calls being traced, the police and the coal mafia in Dhanbad are now preparing to operate a coal theft syndicate using Apples FaceTime. According to Marandi, this indicates a new strategy in which elements within the police and the coal mafia may be shifting to FaceTime, considered more difficult to intercept due to its advanced security features. FaceTime is regarded as safe and secure because it uses end-to-end encryption, meaning only the sender and receiver can access the audio and video content. Apple states that it does not store the content of FaceTime calls and regularly updates its software to address vulnerabilities. Marandi further stated that following the Enforcement Directorates (ED) crackdown and sustained pressure on the coal mafia, which exposed widespread coal theft, there has been an undeclared partial pause in the illegal coal trade in Dhanbad. This, he said, has instilled fear among the mafia, leading to a slight reduction in the ongoing plunder. However, he claimed his reliable sources have informed him that coal thieves are becoming active again and have changed their communication methods to evade the law. The most shocking information is that a shopkeeper at Bank More in Dhanbad recently ordered about 55 iPhones. The motive is clear: fearing that normal calls can be traced, the police and the mafia are now preparing to run a coal theft syndicate through FaceTime, Marandi told media persons at the State BJP headquarters in Ranchi on Friday. He reiterated that this reflects a new strategy by those involved, including some within the police, to exploit FaceTimes reputation for being harder to intercept. Marandi urged central investigative agencies to closely monitor the iPhones that have recently become active in Dhanbad, as well as their buyers and users, both known and unknown. He asserted that no matter what technology the thieves adopt, he will continue to expose them to stop the plunder of the states natural resources. Police officials, however, expressed ignorance of these claims. I have no idea about it, said Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police, Prabhat Kumar. Marandis remarks gain significance in light of the Enforcement Directorates recent raids at 44 locations across Jharkhand and West Bengal on 21 November, during which cash and jewellery worth over 14 crore were recovered, along with a substantial amount of incriminating evidence. According to an official communiqu issued by the ED, the action, carried out under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 , was linked to a sprawling illegal coal mining, theft, transportation, and sale racket allegedly operating across the two states for years. Officials also recovered various property deeds tied to the coal syndicate, agreements related to land transactions, digital devices, and books of accounts belonging to entities allegedly controlled by the accused. The ED reported that raids were conducted at 20 locations across Dhanbad and Dumka in Jharkhand. These locations are linked to individuals including Lal Bahadur Singh, Anil Goyal, Sanjay Khemka, Amar Mondal, and several others associated with their companies and entities operating in Dhanbad.

Wild jackal enters surgical ICU at Dhanbad medical college, hides under bed before fleeing

RANCHI: Raising serious concern over the security arrangements at Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad, a wild jackal unexpectedly entered the emergency building and made its way directly into the Surgical ICU early on Monday morning. The incident came to light on Wednesday after a video of the animal entering the ICU went viral on social media. According to eyewitnesses, the jackal walked in unhindered through the hospitals main gate and crossed the emergency corridor without being noticed by security personnel. It then slipped under a bed inside the dark ICU and hid there, they said. Most of the patients admitted at the time were asleep. An outsourced employee of the hospital, who was heading towards the ward, spotted the jackal entering the emergency block and moving towards the Surgical ICU. He immediately alerted the nursing staff and asked them to turn on the lights. After a brief period of chaos, the jackal fled using the same route and exited through the main gate. The hospital management, however, said they are investigating the matter to confirm whether it was indeed a wild animal. We are investigating whether it was really a jackal or just a dog. Anything can be said only after proper investigation, said Hospital Manager Dr CS Suman. Meanwhile, the incident has raised serious concerns about the medical college and hospital's security system, particularly how a wild animal managed to enter one of the most restricted areas undetected. The 600-bed Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital has long faced security issues. Bystanders of patients being treated at the hospital said that dogs and other animals frequently roam inside the premises. Entry of a wild animal into a sensitive area like the emergency room is a major security lapse, said one of the attendants, requesting anonymity. He also questioned the hospital management's nighttime security surveillance. They added that the entrances to the hospital remain open at night, allowing outside animals to easily enter the premises.

Tejashwis favourite CM is Stalin, whose party compares Biharis with bidis: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday criticised RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for calling Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin his favourite CM, alleging that the DMK had previously insulted Biharis by comparing them to bidis. Someone asked Lalus son who his favourite CM is. He said Stalin, do you know who he is? His party compares Biharis with bidis. His party insults Biharis and disgraces them. Tejashwis favourite is this CM, Shah claimed at a rally in Bhagalpur. He also accused the DMK of opposing the construction of the Ram Temple and insulting Sanatan Dharma. The remarks come after Stalin last week criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged comments that DMK leaders harassed workers from Bihar, asking the PM to avoid cheap politics targeting Tamils ahead of elections. Shah also targeted the broader opposition, saying the RJD-Congress combine had no development agenda for Bihar. Lalu-Rahul-Rabri have not done anything for the poor, except patronising infiltrators who are taking away jobs, foodgrain, and other resources, he said. He described the Mahagathbandhan as a thagbandhan, lacking both policy direction and unity. Tejashwi Yadav says Prashant Kishors Jan Suraaj will have no impact on Bihar polls Addressing security concerns, Shah alleged that Maoists reigned supreme in Bihars Gaya, Aurangabad, Jamui, and other districts during Lalu Prasads tenure as Chief Minister and credited the current government with eliminating Naxalism. If you want to prevent jungle raj, vote for the NDA, he said. In this Naxal-affected area, around 150 Naxals had hijacked the Dhanbad-Patna Express, killing three people. The area was completely under Naxal control. But now, thanks to PM Modis efforts, it is Naxal-free. Earlier, voting used to end by 3 PM; now, people can vote till 5 PM, Shah said. He also took a dig at Lalu Prasad Yadav, claiming that if the Mahagathbandhan comes to power, it would create a new department called Apaharan (kidnapping). He also criticised the Congress leadership, alleging that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi did not have the courage to respond to repeated terror attacks during the UPA regime. Shah further promised a series of development initiatives in Bihar if the NDA retains power. Speaking at rallies in Jamui and Bihpur, he announced plans for an electric vehicle manufacturing cluster, a defence corridor, world-class expressways, new highways, medical and engineering colleges, and an investment of Rs 20,000 crore in pisciculture. He also reiterated support for the construction of a grand temple dedicated to Goddess Sita in Bihar. On the political front, Shah warned voters about potential law-and-order issues under an RJD government. No one can prevent riots in Bhagalpur if the RJD wins the Bihar polls. You have to decide whether you want the kidnapping industry in Diara or the development of tourism, he said. BJP leaders, who cast votes in Delhi, also voted in first phase of Bihar polls: Rahul Gandhi

Rail Teka Dahar Chheka Movement: Kurmi community halts trains in Jharkhand demanding ST status

RANCHI: The Kurmi community on Saturday launched a statewide Rail Teka Dahar Chheka (Train and Road Blocked) Movement across Jharkhand to press its long-standing demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for them. The protest was announced under the banner of the Adivasi Kurmi community, which also has the support of the entire Kurmi Committee and some political parties like AJSU. Acting on a call by the Adivasi Kurmi Community, protesters, dressed in traditional attire, have taken to the railway tracks since morning, accompanied by drums and cymbals. Protesters sat on the tracks in Giridih, Chakradharpur, Jamtara, and Bokaro, stopping trains. In wake of the protests, Section 144 has already been imposed at four railway stations in Ranchi. The Kurmi community had plans to stop trains at 100 stations in Jharkhand, Bengal, and Odisha, including 40 in Jharkhand. Protesters have also taken to the tracks at stations like Muri, Tatisilwai, and Mesra, adjacent to the capital, Ranchi. To deal with the protesters, 500 RPF personnel have been deployed at the Muri station. Acting on a call by the Adivasi Kurmi Community, protesters gathered in large numbers at several railway stations early morning, squatting on the tracks and halting train operations. Similar blockades were seen in Bokaro, Ranchi, and Giridih, where protesters took control of smaller railway stations, in some places as early as 4.00 am. Agitation in Dhanbad division of East Central Railway has also led to regulation of trains within SERs jurisdiction. Due to the ongoing protests, train services have been badly hit across Jharkhand, West Bengal, and adjoining regions. Railway officials said efforts are on to normalize services, but disruption is likely to continue as the agitation intensifies. Several trains were cancelled or rescheduled due to the agitation. Kurmi community to stage peaceful 'Rail Roka-Dahar Chheka' agitation in Jharkhand to demand ST status

RANCHI/JAMSHEDPUR: Kurmi community members will go ahead with their indefinite 'Rail Teka' (rail blockade) agitation on Saturday at different railway stations across Jharkhand in support of their demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and inclusion of Kurmali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, an official of Adivasi Kurmi Samaj said on Friday. Adivasi Kurmi Samaj member and Kurmi Vikas Morcha central president Sheetal Ohdar told PTI that community members have been asked to stage protests on railway tracks in a peaceful manner without disrupting railway traffic, damaging public property and indulging in any sort of violence. We are aware of the Calcutta High Court directive and will ensure that protests on railway tracks are held in a peaceful manner, and under no circumstances will members damage railway property or indulge in violence. Members have been asked not to show resistance when security forces of the state or railway units try to remove them from tracks or take them under preventive custody, Ohdar added. The Calcutta High Court has declared the Kurmi community's plan for rail and road blockade on September 20 unconstitutional and illegal and directed the railways and the state government to take steps to maintain law and order and ensure public movement remains unhindered. Adivasi Kurmi Samaj has given a call for a rail and road blockade in the greater Chotanagpur area, spanning Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. Ohdar said community members have been asked not to carry any traditional weapons during the agitation. Members have been asked not to carry any traditional weapons during the agitation. We will stage jhumur (a traditional dance) and raise slogans in support of our demand, he added. In Jharkhand, Kurmi leaders will sit on protest near railway tracks at Muri Station (near Ranchi), Barkakhana (in Ramgarh), Parasnath (Giridih), Chandrapura (Bokaro), Pradhan Ghanta (Dhanbad), Galudih (East Singhbhum), Sonua (West Singhbhum), Godda and Jamtara from Saturday morning. We do not want the public to be harassed during the agitation and are ready to withdraw our agitation if only Union Home Minister Amit Shah holds a meeting in support of our demand, Ohdar said. The movement for ST status by the Kurmi community gained momentum in 2022. After the COVID-19 pandemic, protests were held at several railway stations in Jharkhand and West Bengal. The movement began on September 20, 2022, and lasted for about nine days. In 2023, the protest again started on September 20 and continued for 7-8 days. No protests were held in 2024 due to the Lok Sabha and assembly elections. Meanwhile, several tribal outfits under Sanyukt Adivasi Sangathan have decided to stage a demonstration near the Raj Bhawan on Saturday in protest against Kurmi community's demand for inclusion in ST category. Sangathan spokesperson Niranjana Toppo claimed that the Kurmi demand for ST status is illegal and the agitation will force railways to incur huge losses. They also announced that they would submit a memorandum to Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar addressed to the President, Droupadi Murmu, against the Kurmi community's agitation. DGP Anurag Gupta had instructed police on Friday to increase vigilance, deploy additional forces with protective gear, install CCTV and drones at sensitive stations, and coordinate with railway police to prevent stone-pelting and ensure passenger safety during the agitation. Meanwhile, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS have been promulgated around four railway stations, including Tatanagar, from Friday in view of the agitation. The order will be effective in a 100-meter radius of Tatanagar, Govindpur, Rakha Mines and Haldipokhar stations under Dhalbhum subdivision of the district, Dhalbhum SDO Chandrajeet Singh said in a statement. The SDO stated that demonstration, dharna, effigy burning or gherao, carrying any sort of weapons, including sticks and bows and arrows, assembly of five or more persons with the intention to disturb peace, has been prohibited. No public address system will be allowed in the prohibited areas without prior permission, he said, adding that the order will be in force till the end of the agitation.

Trips on hold, Nepali students in India live in uncertainty as their nation plunges into chaos

NEW DELHI: Nepali students in India say they have put their plans to travel home on hold and call up their families repeatedly, fearful of their safety amid the violent protests rattling the Himalayan nation. The student-led Gen Z protests in Nepal that began against a government ban on social media expanded into a larger campaign reflecting growing public criticism of the KP Sharma Oli dispensation and the country's political elite over alleged corruption and apathy towards the common people. Prime Minister Oli resigned in the face of massive protests for a second day, even as the ban on social media was lifted late on Monday night. The demonstrators stormed many government buildings and set the parliament as well as homes of several high-profile leaders ablaze, a day after 19 people died in violence. Against this backdrop, Nepali students in India are living in anxiety. A master's student at Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) said he had cancelled his plans to travel home, which is near Kathmandu, for the Dussehra festival. I was looking forward to being with my family, but they have advised me to stay back in Delhi until the situation there stabilises, he said. Manoj Chaudhary from Nepal's Birgunj, pursuing MBA at IIT-Dhanbad, said the situation in his hometown was calmer compared to the capital. Still, he has suspended his plans to visit home. I was planning to visit Nepal soon, but now all my plans are on hold. My family is safe, but I am worried about Kathmandu, where buildings have been set on fire and students have lost their lives. That should never have happened. I only hope peace returns quickly, he said. Another Delhi University student said her immediate parents and siblings live with her in Delhi, but her grandparents and extended relatives are in Nepal. I am deeply worried about them. Every day we hear news of protests turning violent, and it is painful not knowing how safe they are, she said. A first-year DU student said the reports of deaths and destruction had shaken him. I never thought students would be killed for raising their voice. It feels like the country is being torn apart. I used to ask friends here to visit Nepal for its beauty, but now I feel sad about what is happening, he said, adding that he calls his family every few hours to check on their safety. A PhD scholar at the South Asian University, who earlier studied at Jawaharlal Nehru University, said the unrest had left her disturbed even though her family lives in a rural area, which is relatively safe. When your country suffers, you feel helpless sitting far away. The violence was tragic, but I hope the protests open the way for something positive, she said. Another DU student said he had deferred his trip home indefinitely. I was supposed to see my parents later this month, but I can't take that risk now. All I do is wait for messages from family and friends, hoping they are safe, he said. India advised its citizens to defer travelling to Nepal until the condition stabilises.

Jharkhand: House collapses, over a dozen others develop cracks in Dhanbad land subsidence

RANCHI: In a major land subsidence in Sabri Basti under Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad, a house caved in completely, while over a dozen other houses developed cracks. According to the local people, the incident took place around 3 am, when the house of one Arun Rajak completely caved in. Over a dozen other houses developed cracks on their walls and floors, they said. Fortunately, no human casualties were reported, though panic spread across the locality. Sensing the danger, people fled their houses taking with them essential items and rations. Even then they lost some commodities in the landslide. Arun Rajak informed that his family was asleep when they were jolted awake by a loud noise, followed by the collapse of their asbestos-roofed house. In another incident, a cow belonging to Govind Bhuiyan was trapped in the subsidence but was rescued safely by local residents. Another resident Kalyani Devi said that there was loud noise in the morning, in which, her house collapsed. Somehow, they succeeded in saving their lives. We left the thatched roof and ran out, she said. Everything kept in the house, rice, pulses, clothes and other items sunk into the ground. Now, we don't even have anything to eat or wear, she added. Another local Indradev Bhuiyan alleged both BCCL management and local administration are responsible for this incident. Even after complaining with the administration, they did not take any action, said Bhuiyan. Project Officer of Modidih Colliery, Gopaljee, said the affected family has been shifted to Modidih Community Hall temporarily. He assured that all residents whose homes were damaged would be rehabilitated at Tetulmari. Local MLA from Baghmara, Shatrugha Mahto, visited the site in the morning and directed BCCL management to arrange rehabilitation and ensure immediate compensation for victims. Residents recalled that they were forced to move to Sabri Basti in 197677 after a fire destroyed their earlier settlement. However, the area has remained vulnerable, with a similar subsidence reported in 2006. At that time, local MLA and then-minister Jaleswar Mahto had ordered the filling of subsidence holes to prevent gas emissions. Despite repeated warnings, residents alleged that neither BCCL officials nor Jogta police responded promptly to this latest incident. Action was reportedly taken only after the local MLA, who is the elder brother of Dhanbad MP Dhulu Mahto, reached the spot and urged the officials to intervene. The affected families have expressed reluctance to move into vacant BCCL quarters in Tetulmari, as offered by the authorities. Instead, they have demanded rehabilitation in Angarpathra, which they consider a safer location.
