Ranchi Diary | Four zoo safaris across wildlife sanctuaries
The Jharkhand government has planned to develop four zoo safaris across major wildlife sanctuaries to promote eco-tourism and wildlife experiences. The initiative aims to enhance eco-tourism and provide tourists with a unique opportunity to experience wildlife in their natural habitats. According to officials, Jharkhand Eco-Tourism Authority (JETA) will be revived and given the responsibility to manage all safari operations. The proposed locations for these safaris are Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Latehar, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary and Parasnath Wildlife Sanctuary. Another tiger on the prowl in Palamu reserve A tiger roaming in Garhwa for 20 days has reportedly changed its location and entered Latehar, a part of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR). Investigations indicate that the tiger is an adult and is hunting for food. In 20 days, it has killed more than half a dozen cattle in Garhwa. Officials believe that this is a seventh tiger in PTR, but it will be cleared only after the examination of the scat and pug marks by the Wildlife Institute. Notably, the movements of five tigers and one tigress have been recorded in PTR. They have been frequently changing their locations and roaming across the area. Raghubar Das returns, Jharkhand politics heats up: JMM Dulal Bhuiyan likely to join BJP
RANCHI: The political landscape in Jharkhand has started to heat up following the return of Raghubar Das to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After the recent induction of senior leader Champai Soren into the BJP, another veteran Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader, former minister and three-time MLA Dulal Bhuiyan, is reportedly on the verge of joining the party. According to BJP sources, Bhuiyan has been in regular contact with Das and is expected to join the party within a day or two. People close to Bhuiyan have revealed his growing dissatisfaction with the JMM, claiming that the party no longer respects its senior leaders. Senior leaders were given respect till the command of the party was in the hands of Shibu Soren, but since he is not active these days due to his ill health, party workers and senior leaders are being ignored by his successors, they said. Bhuiyan himself admitted that he is in talks with Das and will make his decision based on guidance from him. Raghubar Das has been an old political friend of mine, and we have prior experience of working together, Bhuiyan stated. He added that, given the new political equations in Jharkhand, he is prepared to join the BJP along with his team. Bhuiyans son, Viplav Bhuiyan, is also likely to join the BJP. Notably, Viplav contested the Jugsalai Assembly seat in Jamshedpur as an independent candidate after being denied a ticket by the JMM, but he lost. JMM General Secretary Vinod Pandy, commenting on the matter, said, Bhuiyan has to take a call on his next move. But, if he has any grievances, he should put them at the right forum. Meanwhile, Raghubar Das has returned to action, making statements aimed at energising the BJP cadre. There is speculation that Das might either replace Babulal Marandi as the state president or be given another senior role, given his credentials as a cadre-based leader. Das, who joined the Jan Sangh as an ordinary cadre in the 1970s, is widely regarded as an ideologically committed politician. Das became the first non-tribal chief minister of Jharkhand, completing a full five-year term due to his strong connections within the party cadre and his dedication. The BJPs decision to appoint him as Odishas governor was seen as a move to strengthen Marandis influence in Jharkhand. However, Marandis leadership has not yielded results, with the BJP failing to wrest control from the JMM-led coalition in the 2024 elections. The BJP is now under pressure to consolidate support among Jharkhands 74 per cent non-tribal population, especially given that the states tribal population, comprising 26 per cent, largely supports the JMM-led coalition. The recent defections of influential JMM leaders like Champai Soren and the potential inclusion of Bhuiyan are part of a larger BJP strategy to solidify its position in the state. Champai Sorens switch to the BJP has already created significant ripples, and Dulal Bhuiyans likely defection is expected to further bolster the partys foothold in Jharkhand.

Will come back soon: Former Odisha Governor Raghubar Das after rejoining BJP
RANCHI: Former Odisha Governor Raghuar Das on Friday started his second innings with BJP by formally rejoining the party in the presence of top party leaders at the state BJP headquarters in Ranchi. State BJP President Babulal administered party membership to Das. After coming back to the BJP fold, it feels like being in the lap of the mother, he said. Addressing the gathering after joining the party, Das vowed to come back soon into power. We could not get the expected results in the recent Assembly elections in Jharkhand, but we need not be desperate of disappointed, we will have to fight back, we will to struggle and win back once again, and we will come back soon, said Das. This day is historical day for me as I am taking BJPs members for the second time after 1980, he added. Das warned the JMM-led government that the party will wait for six months and keep a watch on whether the government has fulfilled the promises made to the people or not. If they fail to fulfill their promises, the party will consider it an insult to the mandate and will launch a movement on the streets in order to establish a strong government in the state, he said. Notably, Das was appointed the Governor of Odisha on 18 October 2023. He started his political career in Jamshedpur and was elected the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand, who completed five years tenure from 2014 to 2019. Das was also the first non-tribal Chief Minister of Jharkhand. In the 2019 Assembly polls, Raghubar Das lost to rebel MLA Saryu Roy, who rebelled against the BJP. The BJPs decision to appoint Das as Odishas governor was seen as a move to grant Babulal Marandi greater influence in Jharkhand. Marandi, who merged his party (the JVM) with the BJP in 2020, was unable to wrest control from the JMM-led coalition in the 2024 elections. In light of the BJPs recent underperformance in the assembly elections, there is growing pressure within the party to focus on consolidating support from Jharkhands 74% non-tribal population. The tribal population, which constitutes 26% of the state, largely supported the JMM-led coalition. It was being expected since long that he will return to active politics after resigning from the post of Odisha Governor. Earlier on September 11, Das had changed the colour of the profile picture of Odisha Governor Raghunar Das on X and Facebook, sparking speculations over his return to Jharkhand politics once again. Interestingly, Das changed the frame of his profile picture on social media platforms to green and saffron for some time, but as soon as it went made viral on social media, it was replaced immediately with the earlier photograph. It was also believed in the political circles that Das might contest from his old seat Jamshedpur East in the recently held Assembly elections, but due to some unknown reasons the idea was postponed and his daughter-in-law was fielded from there.

BJP has always insulted Dalits, says Congress leader Ajoy Kumar
JHAMSHEDPUR: Amid ongoing protests over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on B R Ambedkar , senior Congress leader Ajoy Kumar alleged that the BJP, which adheres to the principles of Manusmriti, has always insulted Dalits. The AICC executive committee member, in a statement issued here on Sunday, said that the true character of the BJP, which practices Manusmriti, was exposed with Shah's comments in the Rajya Sabha. BJP leaders' mindset has always been anti-Dalit, which often gets reflected in their statements intentionally or unintentionally, Kumar alleged. Shah's remark on Ambedkar was not only an 'insult to him but also to crores of Dalits of the country who consider him God, Kumar, the AICC in-charge of Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, claimed. Rise & Rise of Ambedkar as an icon The Congress leader alleged that the BJP was against caste-based census because of its anti-Dalit approach. This was not the first time when the BJP's anti-Dalit character came to the fore. There are many past instances, Kumar, who lost to BJP's Purnima Das Sahu in Jamshedpur East seat in the recent Jharkhand assembly elections, claimed. It was Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru's Congress which has always given respect to Dalits, Kumar said. He demanded that Shah must apologise publicly to the nation. During a debate on the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha last week, Shah had said, Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar Bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have attained heaven for seven lifetimes). On Wednesday, Shah held a press conference in which he accused the Congress of twisting facts and distorting his comments in the Rajya Sabha. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed constant protests from treasury benches and opposition members over the alleged insult of Ambedkar until both the houses were adjourned sine die on Friday. Four ministers in Hemant Soren cabinet lost assembly elections
Ranchi: Four key ministers in the JMM-led Hemant Soren government faced crushing defeat in Jharkhand assembly polls despite a stellar performance by the coalition which retained power for the second consecutive term. The ministers who bit dust included Health minister Banna Gupta who courted several controversies besides Water Resources minister Mithilesh Thakur. The other two included Education minister Baidyanath Ram and Social Welfare Minister Bebi Devi whose department was behind the launch of populist Maiyan Samman Yojna that contributed significantly towards the victory of the JMM-led coalition in the state. Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs 1,000 is being provided to women in the age group of 18-50 years and the JMM-led coalition promised to enhance it to Rs 2,500 per month. In a stunning comeback, Hemant Soren's JMM-led alliance on Saturday stormed to power in Jharkhand for a second consecutive term, winning 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, despite an all-out blitz by the BJP-led NDA which managed only 24 seats.

BJP, JMM pin hopes on split exit projections
RANCHI: Amid differing projections by exit polls on Jharkhand assembly election results, both the BJP and JMM claimed to get a clear mandate on November 23, the counting day. The JMM claimed that the INDIA bloc will return to power with more than a two-third majority. Party general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya on Thursday came out with its own exit poll calling it peoples view. According to the survey I have, BJPs account is not going to be opened in 11 districts. There will be a tough fight in the remaining districts as well. It is for sure that the Hemant Soren government is returning to power by with 59 seats, said Bhattacharya. The BJP trashed the JMMs claims, saying the NDA is poised for a comfortable victory. Let them leave in dreams till November 23. The reality on the ground shows that people have rejected the JMM-led alliance in Jharkhand, state BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said. Even in the Kolhan and Santhal Pargana divisions, considered as JMM strongholds, the party will suffer a crushing defeat, Shahdeo claimed. Bhattacharya claimed that INDIA bloc candidates are winning in 59 seats, including Rajmahal, Sarath, Barkatha, Barhi, Barkagaon, Simaria, Bagodar, Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Gomia, Chandankiyari, Sindri, Nirsa, Ghatshila, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur, and Saraikela. Pollsters have made surveys with a purpose to influence the betting market. Figures coming from across the state sugest that the JMM-led alliance is going to form government with a two-third majority, the JMM spokesperson said. Shahdeo said the BJP is poised to bag several seats where it has never won since Independence. There is a strong wave in support of the BJP across the state. This shows the peoples resolve to overthrow the ruling coalition, which will result in a decisive mandate on November 23 and the NDA will secure a a two-thirds majority, the BJP spokesperson said.

Commenting on the launch of the 10th Annual CSR Report, Vinod Kulkarni, Head of CSR at Tata Motors, said, We are immensely proud of the strides we have made in transforming over one million lives through our committed CSR initiatives. Our innovative More for Less for More strategy has empowered us to drive efficiencies, adopt technology, optimise resources and scale up programmes, broadening our reach and deepening our impact nationwide. This success is a testament to the unwavering support of our partners and the trust of the communities we serve. As we advance, we remain dedicated to addressing critical social issues and leveraging government schemes to promote sustainable development in education, health, employability, and environmental protection. Throughout the year, Tata Motors emphasised on the convergence of strength across the government, non-government, and private sectors to implement focussed social interventions in Health (Aarogya), Education (Vidyadhanam), Employability (Kaushalya), and Environment (Vasundhara), with a special emphasis on Water Conservation and Integrated Village Development. Key highlights of Tata Motors' CSR report for FY24 Advancing Water Security Through a partnership with NAAM Foundation, MGNREGA Department, and the Government of Maharashtra, Tata Motors has rejuvenated and developed 106 water bodies in rural Maharashtra under the Government of Indias Amrit Sarovar Mission. This initiative to date has created a capacity of 1,860 million litres of water across Palghar, Pune, and Satara districts, enhancing agricultural productivity, raising water tables, providing access to potable water, and ensuring year-round irrigation. Enhancing Rural Livelihoods Through Integrated Community Development Tata Motors adopts a holistic approach to engage with rural communities with a specific focus on strengthening local governance. The Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP), which began in the tribal block of Jawahar in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, has now been replicated in proximate communities of other plant locations like Pune, Sanand, Jamshedpur and Lucknow. Expanding its engagement to five-gram panchayats in Jawahar, IVDP has reduced migration from 45 percent to 25 percent, increased average household income by 60 percent, and ensured year-round availability of water in this tribal belt. Tata Motors has transformed the barren hamlet of Navapara in Ahmedabad district, inhabited by an underprivileged tribal community. With year-round access to potable water, 190 of the 230 households have adopted fishery as the key source of income. Migration of the community has reduced by 40 percent and there is a 10 percent decline in the rate of school dropouts Creating a Greener and More Sustainable Environment In collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra and the BAIF Institute under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme, Tata Motors has planted 1.7 million saplings across Palghar district in Maharashtra, benefiting 13,000 farmers and converting 13,000 acres of unutilised farmland to productive use. Tata Motors Urban Forestry initiative, in partnership with the TERRE Policy Centre, has planted 125,000 trees over a cumulative area of 200 hectares in and around Pune. These urban forests absorb 300,000 kg of carbon annually, protect biodiversity, and improve air quality. Empowering Students through Enhanced Educational Support The Engineering NEET Admission Bridge Accelerated Learning Engagement (ENABLE) Programme, in collaboration with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Avanti Fellows, and Ex-Navodaya Foundation, supports over 550 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas with coaching, live classes, and mock tests for JEE and NEET exams. Annually, ENABLE coaches and counsels 18,000 science students of Std XI and Std XII via a digital platform to prepare for medical and engineering entrance examinations. In 2023-24, 27 percent of students from the ENABLE online programme qualified for IIT JEE while 79 percent qualified in the NEET exams. Building New Career Paths for Youth Learn, Earn and Progress (LEAP), a flagship social responsibility programme, imparts auto trade skills in Motor Mechanic Vehicles (MMV) to youths from underserved communities, especially school dropouts who lack the skills to be employed. Partnering with ITIs, Skills for Progress (SKIP), and Tata Motors dealers, it provides three months of theory training followed by nine months of On-Job-Training (OJT). With its footprint in 16 states, LEAP trains around 1500 youth annually, ~80 percent of whom get placed within or outside the Tata Motors ecosystem. A significant segment of LEAPs beneficiaries are first-generation learners. Improving the livelihood of the tribals' Despite having first and natural rights over forest produce, tribal families from Junnar and Ambegaon talukas in Pune district of Maharashtra were not permitted by the government to undertake commercial purchase or sale of hirda berries. In 2020, a Farmers Producer Group (FPG) was established under the guidance of Tata Motors and Shashwat Sanstha to train and employ local youth for the procurement and sale of hirda. The FPG has grown from 300 families in 11 villages to over 5,000 families across four talukas. The real-time, fair pricing provided to the farmers has resulted in generating INR 4 crore in revenue over four years. This initiative has enhanced family incomes, arrested migration, and promoted sustainable agricultural practices. Holistic Health Initiatives In 2023-24 the Malnutrition Treatment Centre (MTC) in Jamshedpur, in partnership with Parivar Kalyan Sansthan (PKS), extended its healthcare services in remote areas and increased capacity-building programmes for the Anganwadi workers. MTC, which treats 5,500 children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) annually, achieved more than two-fold growth in its outreach. Building on this success, Tata Motors has expanded its efforts to combat malnutrition by collaborating with the Institute of Social Development (ISD) and the Child Development Department in Uttarakhand to establish the Parvarish Kendras and improve the quality of life of vulnerable communities. Strengthening Employee Volunteering Tata Motors undertook transformative measures to fortify volunteering as an organisational culture. The company reported the highest-ever employee participation of 59 percent as they volunteered 1,17,000 hours for community service.

Voting which commenced at 7 AM today was held peacefully without any incidents of violence. As per updates till 5 PM, a voter turnout of 64.86 per cent was recorded at the polling stations in Jharkhand which has already surpassed 63.9 per cent voting in these 43 ACs in 2019 Assembly Elections, stated an official communiqu from the Election Commission of India. For the first time, voters of Lakhaidih village in Potka AC (East Singhbhum district) having 100% tribal population voted at a polling station set up in their own village, stated the official release for ECI. Earlier, they had to travel to a nearby village to cast their vote which is nearly 25 km from the main road and 4 km away through dense forest and hilly route, it said. Meanwhile, IG operations and Jharkhand Police Spokesperson AV Homkar informed that all the 15 districts in which the elections were held for 43 Assembly seats in Jharkhand on Wednesday, were Maoist-infested and it was a big challenge for the police to conduct peaceful polling. But, the elections were held peacefully without even a single Maoist incident in all 43 Assembly seats in Jharkhand. Out of the total 15, 334 polling booths during the first phase of polling, 2249 were identified as sensitive from the Naxal point of view for which huge deployment of forces was done to avoid any untoward situation, said Homkar. Moreover, Homkar said, there were 286 such booths in Jharkhand which were shadow areas having no mobile or internet connectivity for which special arrangements were made to establish communication with the polling personnel. Looking at the security point of view, polling personnel was heli-dropped on 255 booths a day ahead of the polling on the most sensitive booths, he added. Notably, the fate of 683 candidates in the electoral race will be decided by 13,710,717 voters, including 6,873,455 men, 6,836,959 women, and 303 third-gender voters. Of the 683 candidates, 609 are men, 73 are women, and one belongs to the third gender.

'Modi ki Guarantee' fell flat on June 4, Jharkhand people will finish whatever is left of it: Cong
New Delhi : The Congress on Tuesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the promises made by him for Jharkhand, saying the 'Modi ki Guarantee' campaign fell flat when Lok Sabha polls results came out and the people of Jharkhand will finish whatever is left of it as well on November 13 and 20 Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh listed some of the promises made by the PM and also the current status of the projects. Medical College in Koderma: The college was supposed to be built on --70 acres of land and offer 100 MBBS seats. The non-biological PM laid its foundation stone six years ago, in 2018, and then promised to complete the project again in 2019. It is yet to materialize, he said. Ramesh pointed out that during his campaign for Jharkhand's 2014 assembly elections, Modi had promised a range of industrial and educational projects, including a premier IT institution and several engineering colleges. However, only two institutions were ever established, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT Ranchi) and Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET Khunti), he said, adding that these too, after nine and seven years respectively, do not have a permanent campus. In October 2022, the Railway Ministry sanctioned the Chatra-Gaya rail project but two years later, no progress has been made. BJP leaders have consistently promised the Korba-Lohardaga line, but it has also been given a silent burial, Ramesh said. Just ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the PM laid the foundation stone of the Mandal dam project with great fanfare, he said. Conceptualised to address agrarian distress in Jharkhand and Bihar, the project has languished even while the state has suffered back-to-back droughts in recent years, Ramesh claimed. The Congress leader further said that Jamshedpur had a functional airport until 2016 but despite being inducted into the UDAN scheme in 2018, plans for a new airport have failed to materialise. In January 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Jharkhand Government and the Airports Authority of India for the construction of Dhalbhumgarh Airport by December 2022. This would have been a massive boost to the industrial sector, from major players like Tata to the MSME sector in Adityapur, he said. When the December 2022 deadline came and went, BJP's own MPs were compelled to raise the issue in Parliament, Ramesh said, adding that on February 27, 2023, the Union Civil Aviation Minister responded and confirmed that the project had been abandoned. Unsurprisingly, the Modi ki Guarantee campaign fell flat on June 4, 2024. On November 13 and 20, the people of Jharkhand will finish whatever is left of it as well, Ramesh said. The results of the Lok Sabha polls were declared on June 4 this year. Jharkhand goes to polls on November 13 and 20 in two phases. The results would be announced on June 23.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah promises to make Jharkhand No. 1 state, protect reservation rights
RANCHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, campaigning in Jharkhand, pledged to make the state the nations top-performing region if the BJP comes to power. Shah assured the crowd that his government would remove every Bangladeshi intruder from Jharkhand while criticising the Congress Party for allegedly attempting to award reservation rights to Muslims at the expense of the Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Congress wants to give 10% reservation to Muslims by snatching it from the ST, SC, and OBCs, but as long as Modi's government is in power, that will never happen, Shah stated. He also issued a challenge to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, affirming that Gandhi and even his fourth generation would be unable to reinstate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, the Congress party passed a resolution in the Assembly to reinstate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. I want to make it clear to the people of Hazaribaghand Rahul Baba should listen carefullythat neither he nor his fourth generation will ever reinstate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said. Shah further accused the Congress of appeasement policies, claiming that during its tenure at the centre, the country was plagued by terrorism. However, since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, he argued, the government has maintained security and stability through decisive actions like surgical strikes. According to Shah, PM Modi has made the country both safe and prosperous. He alleged that the Jharkhand government under Hemant Soren failed to deliver on its promise of an unemployment allowance, vowing that a BJP government would provide Rs 2,000 monthly as an unemployment allowance to youths and create 100,000 new job opportunities in Jharkhand. Will deny tribal rights to children of infiltrator father, Adivasi mother: BJP in poll-bound Jharkhand Shah also addressed concerns about corruption, specifically promising to imprison those responsible for the recent paper leak scandal, which had impacted deserving candidates. On the subject of reservation, Shah was adamant, stating, Muslims will not get reservation as long as we are here. BJP, under PM Modis leadership, will never allow religion-based reservation. He went on to assure that the rights of Dalits and other backward classes would remain untouched, as the Supreme Court has capped reservation at 50%, yet the Congress insists on adding 10% for Muslims by taking it from ST, SC, and OBC categories. As long as the Modi government is in power, Congress cannot touch these reservations, he said. Shah also lauded PM Modis contributions to backward communities, mentioning that Modi gave a 27% reservation to backward classes in central exams and job sectors. He highlighted the creation of the Backward Classes Commission and Modi's efforts to secure constitutional status for it. In a final appeal, Shah urged the people of Hazaribagh to support the BJP if they wanted uninterrupted Ram Navami processions. Referring to recent communal tensions and restrictions on Ram Navami processions under the JMM-Congress coalition, Shah declared, If a BJP government is formed in the state, I will personally attend the first Ram Navami procession in Hazaribagh to ensure that no one dares to stop Hindus from celebrating. He concluded with a roadshow in Jamshedpur, passing through the Jamshedpur East and West constituencies. Indian tax structure designed to loot poor: Rahul Gandhi in Jharkhand poll rally

Bypoll battle: Chouhan, Pilot hit campaign trail
BHOPAL: Ahead of bypolls on November 13 in Madhya Pradesh, BJP and Congress hit campaign trail in the state with focus on Budhni. While former Rajasthan deputy CM Sachin Pilot campaigned in Vijaypur assembly constituency of Gwalior-Chambal region on Thursday, former MP CM and current union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan campaigned in his bastion Budhni. Interestingly, he had campaigned for Congress candidate and then five-time former MLA Ramniwas Rawat, who switched to BJP, from the same constituency during the 2023 assembly polls. Addressing a gathering in Gurjar community dominated Goras village, Pilot said, Vijaypur and adjoining Rajasthan share an inseparable Roti-Beti bonding. You vote the Congress candidate to victory and four years later, well bring Congress back to power in Rajasthan. He added, BJPs graph in the entire country is declining and the INDIA grouping will win the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. I have been to Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and there is a one-sided wave prevailing in that state. Meanwhile, Chouhan is campaigning for his loyalist and BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava. 'BJP's graph diving, INDIA bloc to form govts in Maharashtra, Jharkhand': Pilot
BHOPAL: Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Thursday claimed that BJP's favourability is declining as people are fed up with its policies and misuse of agencies, and predicted the victory of the INDIA bloc in Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly polls. BJP's graph in the entire country is declining and the INDIA grouping will win the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. I have been to Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and there is a one-sided wave prevailing in that state, Pilot told reporters at the residence of Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari. Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha was also present. Pilot arrived here to campaign for Congress in the November 13 bypoll in Vijaypur assembly constituency in Sheopur district, bordering Rajasthan. The former Rajasthan deputy chief minister accused BJP leaders of using low-level language during polls, referring to comments like snatching mangal sutra and taking away your buffaloes during the Lok Sabha elections and the recent batenge toh katenge (if divided, we will be finished) by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Aditya Nath. The Congress is focussed on giving slogans with positivity like padhenge toh badhenge' (if we study, we will progress), he said. This type of culture should be promoted. People in the country are now fed up with the BJP over misuse of power and central agencies, and polarisation, he said. Pilot also slammed the BJP over the arrest of two CMs Jharkhand's Hemant Soren and Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal and accused it of exploiting central agencies for political gains. He said that former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, current party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc are working towards strengthening the country and the results of the bypolls in MP will leave their mark in the 2028 assembly elections. Besides Vijaypur, a bypoll will also be held on November 13 in the Budhni constituency, earlier represented by former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Votes will be counted on November 23. The results of the bypolls in various states, including Wayanad from where Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting her maiden Lok Sabha polls, and the assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra will be satisfying for the Congress and the outcomes will have a direct impact on future elections, said Pilot. In Vijaypur, the Congress has fielded senior tribal leader Mukesh Malhotra. The bypoll was necessitated after sitting Congress MLA Ramniwas Rawat joined the BJP during the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year. He is contesting the bypoll on a BJP ticket. Rawat had won from Vijaypur six times as a Congress candidate in 1990, 1993, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2023. Responding to a question about BJP's allegation that Congress and other parties encouraged infiltration in Jharkhand in a planned manner, Pilot asked, Who is responsible for protecting the country's borders? They are levelling allegations by shirking away their own responsibilities. He alleged that the BJP raises issues like 'one election, one nation', cows and Gods before elections just for votes and never talks about its performance in the areas of industrialisation, jobs, roads and water. Asked about the culture of freebies and former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's popular scheme 'Ladli Behna Yojana', Pilot asked if the scheme was so good then why Chavan was removed as the CM. On the one hand, Pilot said, BJP describes freebies as 'revdi' and on the other, it wants to take credit for providing free ration to 80 crore people in the country. If Congress and other parties want to help the deprived sections of society then it is termed 'revdiyan' despite the fact that when they do such things they call themselves 'annadata' and 'daandata', he quipped. Pilot said that though there is a double-engine government (same party at the state and Centre), unemployment is still rising in MP and farmers are dying by suicide. Who will stop it? he asked. Answering a question about Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the state should get full statehood and added that the elections were held there on the directives of the Supreme Court and not by the BJP-led government at the Centre.

Fissures emerge in I.N.D.I.A. as SP decides to go solo in Jkhand
New Delhi: Fissures emerged in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc as the Samajwadi Party has followed the approach of Ekla Chalo Re (going solo) after being denied any seat by the JMM-led alliance in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly polls. Left in the cold by the JMM-Congress seat-sharing pact, the party has announced 21 candidates for the elections in the tribal state. The SP had demanded 12 seats in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, which was refused by the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance, so the party decided to proceed with its own candidates in the Assembly polls. Talking to this newspaper, SP Jharkhand unit chief Ranjan Yadav said the party has nominated candidates for 11 seats in the first phase Girinath Singh from Garhwa, Umashankar Akela from Barhi, Raghupal Singh from Manika, Kamlesh Kumar Yadav from Huss-ainabad, Umendra Kumar Yadav from Bhanwathpur, Mamta Bhuiyan from Chhatarpur, Anju Singh Vishrampur, Ajit Yadav from Jamshedpur West, Rajkumar Yadav from Barkattha, Govind Bedia from Barkagaon and Suresh Kumar Kalindi from Kanke. He also said that denied seat allocation from the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, the party had decided to field its own candidates and has a fair chance of winning at least seven to eight seats. SPs president Akhilesh Yadav is likely to hold rallies for the partys candidates soon, he added. Yadav also expressed confidence that the ruling alliance will come to power again and the Samajwadi Party will support the I.N.D.I.A. bloc. The JMM is contesting in alliance with the ruling Congress, RJD and the CPI(ML). In the recently-held Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir elections, the Congress had not given a single seat to the SP. In Jammu and Kashmir, the party had fielded 20 candidates. In the Haryana Assembly polls, the Akhilesh Yadav-led party had decided not to field candidates.

Poll time and its all in the family for Jharkhand parties
RANCHI: Many political stalwarts in Jharkhand have roped in their wives, daughters and daughters-in-law to save their ground. There are different reasons for roping in women on the seats earlier represented by others for years. Besides, there is also the fear of turf loss. For the first time, two daughters-in-law of Jharkhands biggest political family, the Sorens, are busy building and protecting their political base. Then, there is the question of political legacy in the case of RJD minister Satyanand Bhokta, former chief minister Raghuvar Das and former MLA Samaresh Singh. The first such prominent face is Purnima Das Sahu, the daughter-in-law of Odisha Governor Raghubar Das. She is contesting from Jamshedpur East. Raghubar Das won the seat from 1995 to 2014, becoming the chief minister. Das was defeated by former minister and BJP rebel Saryu Roy in 2019, following which he was made Odisha governor. However, the BJP expressed confidence in his daughter-in-law Purnima, who is contesting against former MP Ajay Kumar. Another such candidate is RJDs Chatra candidate Rashmi Prakash, the daughter-in-law of minister Satyanand Bhokta. The seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste, but Bhoktas have now been included in Scheduled Tribe, he would not be able to contest from the seat anymore. In order to save his political ground, Bhokta married his son off to a Scheduled Tribe girl, Rashmi Prakash, and managed a representation for her from the seat. Rashmi Prakash is now contesting against LJP candidate Janardan Paswan. Another name is Deepika Pandey Singh, who is the daughter-in-law of former minister in united Bihar, Awadh Bihari Singh. Singh won the election for the first time in 2019 on the Congress ticket, and is fielded again this time against BJPs Ashok Bhagat. Meera Munda, wife of former Union Minister Ajun Munda, has been fielded by the BJP from Potka Assembly seat. Her chance came as Munda was reluctant to contest this time and wanted his wife to replace him on traditional seat, Kharsawan, where she has been active. High-profile names Kalpana & Sita Soren: After the death of Shibu Sorens elder son Durga Soren in 2009, his wife Sita was elected. She left the party ahead of Lok Sabha polls and joined BJP and earned her candidature from unreserved Jamtara seat. On the other hand, Kalpana Soren, wife of CM Hemant Soren, entered politics this year and won Gandey by-polls. She is fielded again. Purnima Neeraj Singh & Ragini Singh: Two daughters-in-law of a family are up against each other in Jharia.
Jharkhand Assembly Polls: Old Congress, JD(U) rivals lock horns in Jamshedpur West

The constituency has a significant minority population, and both candidates are emphasizing their merits and criticizing each other as they campaign for votes.
Jharkhand Assembly Polls: A battle of prestige for family of ex-CM Raghubar Das
Jamshedpur East sees a close election as BJP fields Purnima Das Sahu, the daughter-in-law of former CM Raghubar Das. Congress' Ajoy Kumar, backed by his past as senior SP, challenges her. Independent candidate Shiv Shankar Singh adds to the competitive race. Allegations and personal remarks mark the intense campaigning.

(Bengal) Impact Zones : Heavy to very heavy rainfall forecasted in multiple districts, with isolated areas facing extremely heavy rainfall (over 21 cm). North 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Hooghly, and Nadia are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with localised flooding possible in low-lying areas. Kolkata airport to suspend flight operations for 15 hours from 6 pm on Thursday in view of the possible impact of cyclone. 3. (Jharkhand) Impact Zones Southern and eastern districts, including East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan, are likely to be most affected by heavy rainfall and strong winds. Areas near rivers in East Singhbhum and Dumka could face localised flooding due to the expected downpour. Winds of 60-70 kmph, along with heavy rainfall, may impact districts like Ranchi, Bokaro, and Dhanbad, leading to possible infrastructure damage and waterlogging ODISHA With Odisha at the eye of the storm, the state government is racing against time to execute a massive evacuation plan aimed at relocating about 10 lakh people in several coastal districts to safety. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said more than 30 percent of the targeted 10 lakh people have been evacuated to safe places by Wednesday evening in view of cyclone Dana that barrels towards the state's coastal region, threatening to impact nearly half of its population. The remaining people will be brought to safety by 11 am on Thursday, he said. While asserting that the state is fully prepared to face the calamity, Majhi assured the people that they are in safe hands. Do not panic and stay safe. You (people) are in safe hands, he said, adding that all arrangements have been made for the people at the cyclone shelters. The IMD said that cyclone Dana is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port early Friday. The distance between Dhamara in Bhadrak district and Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district is around 70 km. It said that the landfall process will start from the night of October 24 and will continue till the morning of October 25. The maximum speed during the landfall process is likely to be around 120 kmph, IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said and added that landfall is mostly a slow process, which usually takes around 5-6 hours. Therefore, heavy rainfall, wind and storm surge will reach the peak during the landfall time, which is between October 24 night and October 25 morning, he added. It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by early morning of October 24 and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha) during mid-night of October 24 to morning of October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph, the IMD said. Stating that Odisha is likely to face a multi-hazard situation when cyclone Dana makes landfall, Mohapatra said apart from heavy to very heavy rainfall and in places with extremely heavy rainfall and high velocity wind, the state is likely to encounter a tidal surge of up to 2 meters. IMD scientist Umashankar Das at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, warned that low-lying areas in Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts are likely to be inundated and recommended that the government evacuate residents from these regions. According to IMD sources, wind velocity in the districts of Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore would be 100110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph, along with extremely heavy rainfall and tidal surge during the landfall, which will take around four to five hours. The IMD has warned of uprooting of trees, breaking of tree branches, damage to kutcha houses, electric poles and other infrastructure. Meanwhile, the state government has categorised the vulnerable districts. While Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore are in high-risk zones, where wind velocity would remain at 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph, Mayurbhanj would be in the second category, where wind speeds would be at 80-90 kmph, gusting to 100 kmph. Similarly, the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Jajpur come under category three, where wind speeds would be at 60-80 kmph, gusting to 90 kmph. The districts of Puri, Khurda (comprising Bhubaneswar), Dhenkanal and Keonjhar come under category four, where wind speeds will be at 60-70 kmph, gusting to 80 kmph. To ensure the safety of the people, the state government has deployed 288 rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and Fire Services. Districts that are also likely to be impacted include Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Ganjam, Deogarh and Sambalpur. The IMD also cautioned that Cyclone Dana would bring significant rainfall to the state, predicting light to moderate rain at most locations, with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) in isolated areas over Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Khordha starting in the evening of October 23. On October 24 and 25, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several places, with isolated areas receiving extremely heavy rainfall (over 21 cm) in districts including Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Jajpur, it added. The IMD has prohibited all marine activities, including fishing, in the Bay of Bengal until the cyclone has passed. All fishermen returned to the coast by Tuesday evening, said Pujari. Meanwhile, parts of Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts in Odisha experienced rain and adverse weather conditions on Wednesday afternoon, with the IMD saying that the outer bands of Cyclone Dana has begun to affect the eastern coastline. With the cyclone approaching fast towards the state's coast, several activities, including the functioning of the Orissa High Court, Biju Patnaik International Airport, ports at Paradip and Dhamara, all educational institutions, and others remain suspended in the wake of the impending calamity. WEST BENGAL The coastal districts of Bengal are experiencing moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds since the early hours of Thursday, while Kolkata woke up to an overcast sky and intermittent showers. Advising fishermen not to venture into the sea, the Met Department said gale wind with speeds reaching 90-100 kmph and gusting to 110 kmph is prevailing over the northwest Bay of Bengal. It warned that the wind speed over the area is likely to increase gradually to 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph till Friday morning, and decrease thereafter. The bulletin warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy downpour in isolated places in the south Bengal districts of North and South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly districts on Thursday and Friday. Public transportation to and from Kolkata's suburbs may get affected from the evening, as Eastern and South Eastern railways cancelled a large number of trains on Thursday and Friday in view of the cyclone. More than 170 express and passenger trains running through South Eastern Railway (SER) jurisdiction have been cancelled, an official said. The trains cancelled were scheduled to depart from their originating stations between October 23 and October 27, he said. Besides, the Eastern Railway (ER) will not operate any EMU local train from Sealdah station on its south and Hasnabad sections from 8 pm on Thursday till 10 am on Friday, the official said. The ER also cancelled 68 suburban trains on the Howrah division on Friday morning, he said. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) said it is on high alert and has mobilised vessels and aircraft to respond swiftly to any contingency over the Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, the NDRF said it has deployed several teams across south Bengal to tackle any emergency situation. Ferry services in the Sunderbans area spread over North and South 24 Parganas districts and also across the Hooghly River in Kolkata and adjoining areas will remain cancelled in view of the impending inclement weather, officials said. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has also opened a control room at its headquarters and cancelled the leaves of all essential staff. JHARKHAND Parts of Jharkhand could experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from Thursday night under the influence of cyclonic storm 'Dana', a Met Department official said. An 'orange' alert has been issued in the Kolhan region (West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharswan, and East Singhbhum districts) for Friday, he said. This category of alert indicates heavy rainfall ranging from 115 mm to 204 mm in 24 hours, the official said. Apart from heavy rain, the region might also experience thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of up to 60 kmph, Ranchi Meteorological Centre in-charge Abhishek Anand said. Six teams of the NDRF have been deployed in Jamshedpur and Chaibasa, while two teams were kept on standby in Ranchi to deal with any emergency situation, another official said. Several parts of central Jharkhand, including Ranchi, Khunti, Lohardaga, Gumla and Ramgarh, may also experience heavy rainfall on Friday, Anand said. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in many parts of the state on Thursday, with forecast of heavy rainfall in the Kolhan division, under the influence of the cyclonic system, he said. The inclement weather is also likely to impact political activities underway for the upcoming assembly polls in Jharkhand, scheduled to be held in two phases -- November 13 and November 20 -- with the counting of votes on November 23.

Over 60,000 assistant teachers to go on strike demanding regularization of services in Jharkhand
RANCHI: More than 60,000 assistant teachers (Para Teachers) across Jharkhand are all set to go on strike once again from October 15 against the Hemant Soren governments failure to implement a previously agreed-upon deal. The Jharkhand State Assistant Teachers Action Committee has officially notified the Chief Minister and the states School Education and Literacy Department about the proposed strike citing the non-implementation of the August 28, 2024, agreement as the cause of their protest. Notably, the Para-Teachers have been agitating for long for the regularization of their services and respectable remuneration for the last several years. Many of the Para teachers are serving for last 20 years and are still waiting for their jobs to get regularized with increased honorarium. According to committee members, Hemant Soren has failed to fulfil the promises made ahead of 2019- Assembly polls that their services will be regularized and they will get perks as any other regular teacher in Jharkhand. During the August 28 negotiation meeting, the state government had promised to provide assistant teachers with an honorarium equivalent to a salary and access to Employee Provident Fund (EPF) benefits, said District President of State Assistant Teachers Action Committee in Jamshedpur, Sumit Tiwari. Despite the fact that the term of Hemant Soren is going to end soon, the agreement was not passed in the state cabinet, prompting their decision to strike, he added. Tiwari further added that, before the Assembly polls in 2019, Hemant Soren had promised to regularize their services, but even after five years, he did not fulfil his promise. Promise to regularize the services of Para Teacher also featured in JMMs election manifesto, he said. Before going on strike, on October 14, the day before the strike begins; the assistant teachers will stage a symbolic funeral procession for the finance minister, education minister and Giridih MLA who mediated the initial agreement. After the strike on October 15, the protesting teachers will march towards Ranchi on October 17 for an indefinite gherao (blockade) of chief ministers residence. Despite the announcement made by the then School Education and Literacy Minister Late Jagarnath Mahto that services of Para teachers in Jharkhand would also be regularized on the lines of Bihar, no action was taken in this regard. Mahto has said that the blueprint of the manual will be prepared within a week under which, they will be paid salaries in spite of remunerations on the lines of Shiksha Mitra in Bihar.
