Venkatesh Prasad To Contest As President For The Upcoming KSCA Elections
India Cricketer Venkatesh Prasad: With former India Cricketer Venkatesh Prasad at the helm, team Game Changers announced their candidates for the upcoming Karnataka State Cricket Association scheduled for November 30. Indian cricket icons Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath were present at the announcement, lending their strong support and encouragement to Venkatesh Prasads vision for Karnataka Cricket. Speaking about the motivation behind contesting, Venkatesh Prasad said the teams focus was on rebuilding Karnataka cricket and restoring its lost glory. We have come together because we believe Karnataka cricket needs to be rebuilt. All the cricketers of Karnataka are behind us in this effort. Our goal is to restore the pride of Chinnaswamy Stadium, build infrastructure across the state, and strengthen the pathway for young players, he said. Speaking about the need for change, Anil Kumble said, Whats important is that weve all gathered here for cricket. Hats off to Venky for initiating this whole process. Were here because we feel Karnataka cricket is suffering, and we want to make a difference. Echoing a similar sentiment, Javagal Srinath emphasised the need for change and accountability within the association. One of the words Ive coined is backseat driving syndrome, and that has to stop. When the KSCA has dignity and respect, theres no need for anyone to control things from behind. Its time for the focus to return to cricket and to those who serve the game with integrity. Also in the fray are former India and Karnataka cricketer Sujith Somasundar for Vice-President, Vinay Mruthyunjaya for Secretary, A.V. Shashidhar for Joint-Secretary, and B.N. Madhukar for Treasurer. Sporting ICF coaches, Keralas oldest long-haul train struggling to move on
KASARGOD: Around 3pm, the electric locomotive pulls into Kanhangad railway station, bringing in its wake the yellow and maroon liveried rakes of the 12602 Mangaluru Central-MGR Chennai Central Mail -- for its scheduled two-minute stop. The train bears history, as the first long-haul service to have chugged into Kerala the erstwhile Malabar presidency to be precise in 1867, 14 years after the countrys first passenger railroad made it from Bori Bunder to Thane. And it seems to be having trouble shaking off its legacy, as it continues to operate the old, rugged Integral Coach Factory (ICF) cars, while most other trains have moved on to modern Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches. This, despite the April 2018 policy decision to stop manufacturing conventional carriages and switch over completely to LHB coaches. Its services were numbered 1 and 2 (presently 12601 and 12602), running from Royapuram near Chennai to Chaliyam (present-day Beypore). It was named the Mangalore-Madras Mail in 1887 even though the train was extended to Mangalore only after the completion of the Netravati Bridge in 1907. The train moved people from Malabar and Mangalore to Chennai to establish shops, bakeries, eateries and enterprises, says R Prasanth Kumar, president of the Kasaragod District Rail Passengers Association. However, the train missed the boat when Indian Railways started taking to modern LHB coaches in 2000. Several trains, including those running between the same destinations, such as the 12685/12686 MGR Chennai Central-Mangaluru Central Superfast Express were provided LHB coaches. The Netravati bridge. Though named Mangalore Mail, the train went to Mangalore only in 1907 after the bridge was constructed that year Given its history, it should have been the first train to get LHB coaches, stresses Prasanth. LHB coaches are made of stainless steel and are lighter each weighing 35-40 tonnes compared with ICF coaches that are made of iron and weigh 45-50 tonnes. Despite repeated appeals, the officials at Southern Railway keep parroting that they dont have coaches, says Hanumantha Kamath of the West Coast Rail Yatri Development Committee in Mangaluru. Railway sources said the zonal authority allots LHB coaches when it receives them from coach-manufacturing plants in Perambur, Kapurthala and Raebareli. The rakes are provided to the divisions maintaining trains. Accordingly, they are replaced. Chennai Central - Mangaluru Central Mail would soon get LHB coaches, said an official with the Palakkad division.

The event was presided over by Dr H. S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MAHE, and organised by Dr Sharath K. Rao, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences), MAHE. Dr Anil K. Bhat, Dean of KMC Manipal, and Dr Cherian Varghese, Director of the Prasanna School of Public Health, participated in this inauguration. In his address, Dr Ballal emphasised that the partnership between ICMR and MAHE represents he highest level of national recognition for MAHE's research culture and reflects the University's enduring commitment to science that heals and research that transforms. Dr Sharath K Rao outlined the roadmap for health research at MAHE. The Centre for Advanced Research (CAR) aims to fill a vital gap in India's healthcare system-the need for ethical, compassionate, and evidence-based care for patients with advanced and terminal illnesses admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The centre will develop and assess a Multifaceted Comprehensive Appropriate Care Package (MCACP) that incorporates palliative care principles within critical care environments. This initiative builds on MAHE's pioneering BLUE MAPLE framework, created and implemented at Kasturba Hospital and KMC Manipal, which has shaped national end-of-life care standards. The CAR will now expand this work nationwide, establishing a multi-centre collaborative network comprising ten clinical centres and seven technical partners. The Centre's work spans multiple disciplines-medicine, nursing, bioethics, health economics, law, and public health-reflecting MAHE's belief in the One Health-One Humanity approach to research and innovation. By co-developing and testing a nationally scalable model of appropriate care for ICU patients with advanced illness, the CAR aims to influence policy, improve health-system responsiveness, and generate evidence that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). MAHE has a longstanding legacy of promoting research, innovation, and translational impact. The establishment of the ICMR-MAHE CAR strengthens MAHE's position as a leading contributor to India's health-research ecosystem. It reaffirms its mission to integrate science, ethics, and empathy in healthcare delivery. The Centre for Advanced Research will serve as a national and global reference point for ICU and palliative-care research, setting new benchmarks for interdisciplinary and implementation science in India. Pilots body asks ministry for judicial probe into Ahmedabad plane crash
NEW DELHI: The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has written to the Civil Aviation Ministry demanding a judicial probe into the June 12 Air India flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad that claimed 260 lives. The federation also plans to file a PIL in this connection in the Supreme Court shortly. It is demanding a court of inquiry (judicial probe) under Rule 12 of the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017. We will also be moving the Supreme Court early next week with a similar request, a source told this reporter. The response follows the Supreme Courts castigation of the Aircraft Accidents Investigation Bureau (AIIB) on Monday for suggesting that pilot error caused the crash in its preliminary report submitted a month later (July 12). The bench was responding to a plea by an NGO, Safety Matters Foundation, seeking an independent probe. The letter, dated September 22, is signed by the president of the FIP, which represents over 5,000 professional pilots and aviation professionals. It suggested that the probe panel can be on the lines of the Court of Inquiry set up after the Mangalore accident on May 22, 2010, involving an Air India Express flight, which claimed 158 lives. A Presiding Officer which must be a retired Judge of the Supreme Court and a panel of unimpeachable, independent experts with knowledge of operational, aircraft maintenance, avionics and flight control systems, it said. The letter to the ministry recalls that it had made a preliminary request in the aftermath of the accident for inclusion of subject-matter experts and a judicial inquiry. This letter serves as a formal and urgent escalation of that position in light of grave and alarming developments, it said. It charged that the actions by the AAIB have violated statutory rules and ethical norms. The letter alleged that a delegation of the AAIB had made an unsolicited visit to the residence of Pushkar Raj Sabharwal, the 91-year-old bereaved father of deceased Pilot-in-Command Capt Sumeet Sabharwal, under the guise of offering condolences.
