The accident occurred on the Gangotri National Highway near Gangnani Dharmkund early on Thursday morning, when an MUV car plunged directly into the river. According to preliminary information, there were seven people in the 7-seater car. Following the accident, the bodies of four individuals were recovered from the riverbank, while an extensive search operation is underway in the strong river current to locate the other potential passengers. Given the gravity of the situation, the district administration, police, SDRF, and emergency services were mobilised immediately. Reports indicate that the car lost control about 20 meters beyond Gangnani Dharamkund, towards Dabrani, and fell into the river. Upon receiving notification of the incident, teams from the local police, SDRF, and the 108 emergency service were dispatched to the scene. Under the directives of District Magistrate Prashant Arya, relief and rescue operations were launched promptly. Following the recovery of four bodies from the riverbank, the process of identifying the deceased has begun. Meanwhile, divers have been deployed to search for the other individuals who were in the vehicle. The strong current of the river is posing a significant challenge to the rescue operation. Rescue teams are conducting a thorough search in potential areas along the river. Efforts are also being made, with the assistance of the Maneri police, to bring an injured person up to the road so that immediate medical attention can be provided. The administration has placed the disaster management centre and medical teams on high alert. District Magistrate Prashant Arya is closely monitoring the entire situation. Officials present at the site have been instructed to accelerate the rescue operation and provide all possible assistance to those affected. The administration is working to establish contact with the families of the victims. An investigation into the causes of the accident is also underway. Further details are awaited.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Jakarta said the 48-hour validation exercise involved joint training in battlefield medical care, combat tracking of the enemy, and responding to enemy engagements in difficult jungle terrain. The 48-hour validation exercise of GARUDA SHAKTI2026 continues, with Special Forces of the Indian Army and Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) jointly undertaking Tactical Combat Casualty Care, combat tracking, and conducting contact drills in the face of enemy under challenging conditions of the jungle terrain, the Embassy said. As interoperability soared to the skies, Combat Free Fallers from both forces executed free fall jumps jointly, building mutual confidence in each other's equipment, tactics and standard operating procedures, it further mentioned. These integrated drills lay the groundwork for advanced airborne operations and enhanced operational synergy between the two elite forces across the spectrum of special operations, it added. On Tuesday, both countries' armies began the joint military GARUDA SHAKTI 2026 validation exercise in East Java, marking a major boost to bilateral defence cooperation. Special Forces of Indian Army and TNI-AD commenced the final validation exercise of GARUDA SHAKTI2026 in the harsh and unforgiving jungle terrain of East Java. The exercise spanning over 48 hours will test the troops on the skills they honed over the last week ranging from marksmanship, mountaineering, heli-borne operations, patrolling and combat tracking, the Indian Embassy in Jakarta posted on X. Operating in a realistic scenario, these elite troops will have to work together under demanding conditions that test their endurance, tactical coordination and decision-making - all under pressure. The validation exercise is aimed at cementing the gains accrued over this edition of GARUDA SHAKTI and foraying into complex joint missions together, as a team, it added. Sachdeva contended that a video featuring Bora had been widely circulated on social media platforms and reported by multiple news outlets, in which she made sweeping statements attributing sexual offences against women to temple priests. In the video, Bora is purportedly heard saying: Brahmin mahilayein sadkon par chalte hue bhi surakshit nahi hain. Unke saath rape hota hai. Mandiron mein pujari bhi rape karte hain. Unnao aur Kathua mein aisi ghatnayein hum dekh chuke hain. (Brahmin women are unsafe even while walking on the streets. They are raped, and even priests in temples commit rape. We have witnessed such incidents in places like Unnao and Kathua.) The video also carries an overlay reading: PUJARI RAPES WOMEN INSIDE TEMPLES. The complainant contended that the statements made a generalised attribution of sexual offences to an entire category of persons and linked them to a particular social order. Sexual offences are criminal acts that must be investigated and prosecuted strictly under the law wherever they occur. However, publicly attributing such crimes in a blanket manner to an entire category of persons, and disseminating the same widely, is capable of promoting disharmony, enmity, hatred or ill-will between different groups of citizens, the complaint stated. It further claimed that the statements were prejudicial to the maintenance of public tranquillity and order, adding that their wide electronic circulation had generated public reaction. The lawyer submitted that the matter was being raised purely as a law and order issue concerning public tranquillity and was not framed as a grievance of, or on behalf of, any particular community. Sachdeva urged the police to register an FIR against Bora and any other persons whose involvement may emerge during the investigation. She also sought a thorough probe into the statements, their intent, electronic records, circulation and alleged impact on public order.
