The Supreme Court has allowed the Maharashtra State Election Commission to proceed with elections for most local bodies, excluding those with over 50% reservation. Polls for 57 civic bodies exceeding this limit will be subject to the court's final decision on January 21, with results pending the outcome.
These preparations also come in the run up to the elections of gram panchayats and the BRS leadership hopes that celebrating Deeksha Divas will give impetus to it in these polls.
With this, the path was cleared for the state government to proceed with the panchayat elections next month.
