Uttar Pradesh woman on Pashupatinath pilgrimage in Nepal dies in arson
LUCKNOW: Nepals ongoing unrest turned a Ghaziabad familys pilgrimage to the Pashupatinath temple into tragedy after rioters set fire to a luxury hotel in Kathmandu where they were staying, leaving a woman dead. Dozens of Indian tourists are stranded in the violence-hit country. Ramveer Singh Gola, 58, never knew that a spiritual sojourn with his wife Rajesh Gola would become her journey to the heavenly abode. He travelled to Kathmandu to visit the Pashupatinath temple on September 7. On September 8, violent protests broke out in the Himalayan state demanding transparency in governance and lifting of the ban on social media platforms. The deadly night of September 9 proved to be the nemesis of the Golas as their five-star hotel was set ablaze during the violent protests. Demonstrators tried to storm parliament and torched various government and private establishments as the agitation turned violent. According to relatives, Ramveer Gola and his wife were staying on the upper floor of the hotel when protesters set the lower floors on fire. In panic, Ramveer attempted to rescue his wife to safety using a curtain, but she slipped from his grasp and fell, sustaining severe injuries. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed on the way due to excessive bleeding and injuries. On Friday morning at 10:30 am, family members brought her body to their residence in Master Colony, Ghaziabad. As per family sources, the violent mob stormed the hotel and set it on fire. As the stairways filled with smoke, Ramveer broke the windowpane, tied sheets, and jumped onto a mattress, while Rajesh Gola slipped while trying to climb down and fell heavily on her back. According to the account of Vishal, the elder son of the Golas, communication blackouts hampered their search. For two days, we didnt know about their whereabouts. Finally, my father was found in a relief camp, but my mother died in the hospital, he said while talking to media persons. The son also alleged that he received minimal support from the Indian embassy. Meanwhile, several groups of UP pilgrims remain stranded in Nepal as violent protests continue to disrupt normal life in the Himalayan nation. The India-Nepal border in Maharajganj witnessed a surge of returning tourists as many cut short their trips amid escalating unrest. A group of 10 pilgrims from Muzaffarnagar, in western UP, who had travelled to visit the Pashupatinath temple, have been confined to their hotel for the past three days. The group includes local BJP leader Sunil Kumar Tayal, who has sought assistance from state minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal. Similarly, nine pilgrims from Ayodhya, who set out on the Mansarovar pilgrimage, are stranded in Hilsa at the Nepal-China border. Most of them were preparing to return, but the arson and unrest in Nepal closed the routes. However, according to available information, all the pilgrims are safe and in contact with their families. Ayodhya DM Nikhil Tikaram Funde told media persons that he was observing the situation and was trying to ensure the safe exit of the pilgrims. Nine individuals departed from Ayodhya on September 1 to visit Kailash Mansarovar. On their return journey, they got stuck in Nepal after passing through China. Although their families claim to be in contact with them, efforts are underway to bring them back safely by coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Nepal, said the DM. Those stranded in Nepal include Sushil Rajpal, Chaman Singh, Madan Jaiswal, Vikas Gupta, Ramakant Yadav, Shailendra Agrahari, Anoop Kumar Singh, Prakash Srivastava, and Hari Shyam Tripathi.

NEW DELHI: Aimed at fast and improved connectivity between two major pilgrimage cities in Uttar Pradesh, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to undertake detailed studies for a high-speed, access-controlled corridor linking Ayodhya and Varanasi. Studies on the economic viability, technical feasibility, traffic movement, possible alignment alternatives, structural features and environmental impact assessment for a high-speed, access-controlled corridor linking Ayodhya and Varanasi will be conducted by NHAI. The proposed 192-kilometre project is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency while also promoting economic development along the corridor and religious tourism in the region. According to the officials, the Authority has already begun the bidding process to select a consultant for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for the development of the corridor. The DPR will cover detailed highway design, pavement structure, bridge and drainage planning, land acquisition strategies, cost estimates, including environmental and safety assessments, besides other requirements. The comprehensive document is expected to be completed within a year. The DRP also help to understand the requirements regarding rehabilitation, provision of service roads, rehabilitation and widening of existing/ construction of new bridges and also cost estimates. The consultant will study the possible locations and design of the toll plaza, wayside amenities required and arboriculture along the highway to be planned, officials said. Because the local and slow traffic need to be segregated from the main traffic therefore the provision of service roads and physical barriers, including fencing will be examined to improve efficiency and safety. As part of the ambitious plan to unclog the district, facilitating smooth vehicular movement, the work on another high-speed corridor in Ayodhya Ring Road (68-km long 4-lane access-controlled stretch) is already underway. The road will reduce congestion on National Highways passing through the city; enabling fast movement of pilgrims visiting the Ram Mandir. Furthermore, the Ring Road will offer seamless connectivity to national and international tourists arriving from Lucknow International Airport, Ayodhya Airport and major railway stations in the city. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the development of the Ring Road project in August last year. In Uttar Pradesh, another high-speed corridor is being developed to provide connectivity between Agra and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Once completed, the AyodhyaVaranasi corridor is expected to become a key artery supporting spiritual tourism, industrial growth, and urban development in eastern Uttar Pradesh, said officials.

Divisive rhetoric threat to national harmony, says former SC judge Rohinton Nariman
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Supreme Court judge Rohinton Nariman on Monday called fraternity and secularism the twin pillars of the Indian Constitution, warning that distortions of history and divisive rhetoric pose a grave threat to national harmony. Speaking at a lecture on Fraternity in a secular state - The protection of cultural rights and duties organised by the Vakkom Moulavi Foundation Trust (VMFT), Nariman said Indias diversity makes its constitutional framework unique and incomparable to any other country. He expressed alarm over manipulated versions of history, recalling how a schoolbook depicted Mughal emperor Akbar as a tyrant while erasing his legacy as a great ruler. When fraternity is breached through such distortions, citizens must approach courts, as this strikes at the very heart of our constitutional promise of harmony, he noted. Nariman also emphasised the symbolism of the Ashoka Chakra on the national flag. Every time you see the flag, fraternity should come to your mind first, he said. On a judge once invoking divine intervention in the Ayodhya case, Nariman replied sharply: Whether divine or bovine intervention, such remarks violate the oath to the Constitution. Judges must rely only on the Constitution and the laws. Nariman said that every individual has the right to practice, profess, and propagate religion. However, he pointed out that a 1977 Supreme Court judgment narrowly interpreted propagate to mean only expressing ones faith, excluding the right to convert. Nariman disagreed with this interpretation, asserting that the constitutional guarantee goes beyond mere expression. Citing the idea of fraternity enshrined in the Preamble, he remarked, When we say We, the People in the Preamble, it truly means all of us. What we gave to the minorities reflects that inclusiveness. Unlike countries such as Norway or Singapore, which are largely monocultural, India is a land of immense diversity. The way we function together in spite of this is extraordinary. Therefore, we must never compare ourselves with other nations. In his keynote address, former Kerala DGP Alexander Jacob said fraternity was deeply rooted in Indias history. We welcomed Jews, Christians and people of every faith. Religious tolerance was our strength. The British, however, deliberately broke this fraternity to divide us by manipulating history, he observed.

BJP government in UP fundamentally against education, democratic rights: Akhilesh Yadav
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched a fierce attack on the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, accusing it of being fundamentally against education and democratic rights. Addressing the media at the Janeshwar Mishra Park here, Yadav criticised the state government's recent actions targeting the SP's 'PDA Pathshala' campaign, where volunteers have been conducting informal classes in areas where primary schools were recently shut or merged. Calling the BJP he biggest mafia for being against education, Yadav said even the British never filed FIRs for running educational initiatives. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also condemned the filing of police cases against PDA Pathshala volunteers and asserted that such classes would continue until the government reopens the shut schools and appoints teachers and principals. This is not going to stop because of police threats, Yadav said. He demanded the complete rollback of the school merger plan and the immediate reopening of closed primary schools. Yadav pointed out that when the Samajwadi Party was in power, it set up new schools and launched innovative education models, including cultural schools in the state capital. He accused the BJP of failing to support or sustain the initiative. Citing the recent roof collapse incident at a school in the chief minister's home district that left students injured, Yadav said the poor condition of schools highlights the government's neglect. The SP leader also targeted the state's Panchayati Raj Department for allegedly issuing a controversial letter that selectively focused on specific castes and communities. He called it unconstitutional and said the party would take the matter to court. If any illegality is committed, action must be taken, but targeting people based on caste or religion is against the Constitution, he added, urging the judiciary to take suo motu notice. The directive referred to by Yadav has already been withdrawn, and the joint director concerned of the department who issued it has been suspended with immediate effect from Monday. Meanwhile, Yadav claimed the BJP has no real achievements to show the public, and it instead resorts to false cases and arrests. He alleged that the BJP was attempting to appropriate the SP's legacy by putting up its own signboards at the entrance of the Janeshwar Mishra Park -- a public space developed under the previous SP government -- and said the current administration had allowed the park to fall into neglect. On the recent political developments, Yadav reiterated his support for the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) alliance, stating that attempts to suppress it would only strengthen its resolve. He also accused the BJP of trying to divert attention from real issues such as inflation, unemployment, corruption, and flood devastation. Yadav alleged that instead of providing relief, the government was distributing stale food to flood victims in Prayagraj, while many areas lacked clean water, toilets, and medical facilities. Rs 20,000 crore has been spent, but homes remain submerged, he said, pointing to similar situations in Varanasi and Gorakhpur, both cities that received heavy Smart City funding. He accused the BJP leaders of illegally grabbing land in cities like Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Varanasi, including wetlands and ponds, and challenged the media to examine land registry records to expose the extent of the encroachments. Yadav also raised concerns about the alleged tampering with voter rolls under the pretext of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in poll-bound Bihar. He said the Samajwadi Party had submitted affidavits to the Election Commission about 18,000 missing voters who had voted in 2019 but found their names deleted in 2022. Despite this, he said, no explanation or action had been taken by the commission. Calling the BJP's claims about foreign investments and economic growth hollow, Yadav said the ruling party only pays lip service to swadeshi values while embracing foreign interests in practice. They don't even understand what the economy is, he said, criticising the state and central governments for failing to address the growing economic distress in the country.
Major rivers flowing above danger mark in UP as incessant rains claim a dozen lives
LUCKNOW: At least five rivers in Uttar Pradesh are flowing above the danger mark and many others are in spate owing to the incessant heavy rains during the last 50 hours, which have claimed over a dozen lives so far. Continuous rainfall and overflowing rivers have triggered a major flood crisis affecting at least 20 districts, including Varanasi, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Jhansi, Agra, Kanpur Dehat, and Kanpur Nagar. Rising water levels in the Ganga, Yamuna, and Chambal rivers have inundated hundreds of homes and cut off villages. Relief and rescue teams from the SDRF, NDRF, and PAC have been pressed into service in the worst-hit areas. The monsoon remains active in both eastern and western parts of UP due to a strong monsoon trough. Heavy rainfall has been reported in Lucknow prompting the District Magistrate to declare all schools from Classes 1 to 12 closed on Monday. Similar orders were issued in Sultanpur, where government and private schools up to Class 8 were shut. Eastern Uttar Pradesh recorded 18.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, nearly 146% above the normal level of 7.5 mm. Western UP saw 8.2 mm of rainfall compared to an expected 7.2 mm, 14% above normal. The IMD has issued warnings of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall for over 60 districts. The Met department issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall in Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, and Badaun. Alerts for heavy rain have also been issued in 40+ additional districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Ayodhya, Moradabad, and Etawah. Lightning warnings are in effect for nearly the entire state. The flood situation is grim across the state with the Team 11, constituted by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, comprising ministers, on ground zero to oversee the rescue and relief. With the CM personally monitoring the situation, the flood relief and rescue operations intensified across the state. Varanasi, Prayagraj and Kanpur are among the worst-affected divisions. In Varanasi, families have been waiting for hours for their turn to perform the last rites of their near and dear ones at the ghats as rising waters of the swollen Ganga spilled on to the streets on Monday leaving the Manikarnika and Harishchandra ghat cremation grounds completely inundated. While pyres were being laid at the upper platform at Manikarnika Ghat, cremations took place in the streets near Harishchandra ghat. With the majority of the 84 ghats along the Ganga submerged, flood waters had been flowing on roads especially in upstream areas. The fury of the Ganga is not only gripping Kashi but also affecting the lives of thousands in neighbouring Ballia district as well. The fields with ready paddy crops are completely marooned in Ghazipur and Chandauli districts. In Prayagraj, with water levels of Ganga and Yamuna having breached the danger mark by around 50 centimetres at Naini, Phaphamau and Chhatnag, more than 107 wards of the district stood flooded forcing more and more residents to take refuge at makeshift flood relief camps. Over 1747 families, comprising 7500 people, have already moved to 18 relief camps, which are getting crowded by the day. The administration has deployed over 168 boats and one motorboat to rescue and assist flood victims. While the Ganga breached the danger mark in Ballia and Ghazipur, the Yamuna is above the danger mark in several areas, including Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, and Banda. The Betwa River is also overflowing in Hamirpur. According to Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami, 40 tehsils and 694 villages in 17 districts were in the grip of floods impacting over 1.16 lakh peopleall of whom have received assistance and moved to relief camps. Over 25,000 people and 4,682 cattle have been relocated. However, 11,386 hectares of land lie flooded. Relief is being delivered via 738 active boats, with 4,867 kept on standby. So far, 9,467 food packets and 1.18 lakh lunch packets have been distributed, while 39 langars (community kitchens) continue to serve fresh meals to those hit by rains and flood fury, added Goswami. With senior officials holding ground in sensitive and hypersensitive districts, 14 NDRF teams, 15 SDRF teams, and 48 PAC teams have been deployed across 57 districts to aid affected populations. Goswami said that a total of 924 flood shelters were housing 18,772 displaced individuals, all being attended to by 778 medical teams. Additionally, 1,193 flood posts were monitoring the situation, and 25,586 people were relocated to safer areas. The most-affected districts include Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Auraiya, Chitrakoot, Ballia, Banda, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Chandauli, Jalaun, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Etawah, and Fatehpur. Relief operations are underway at a rapid pace, with NDRF, SDRF, and PAC teams conducting continuous patrolling in affected areas.

Indian Railways announces Mahalaya Paksha special train from September 9
Spiritual tour to cover Saptha Moksha Kshetras including Ujjain, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Gaya; 15-day journey offers pinda daan opportunity in Gaya
BHOPAL: A distance of five kilometres separates the official bungalows of two saffron-clad women politicians of the ruling BJP in Bhopal. But the celebrations at the residences of these two former Bhopal MPs, to mark the acquittal of one of them, Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case , stood in sharp contrast. While Thakur was in Mumbai for the NIA courts judgment in the 17-year-old terror case, a handful of her supporters at the B-29 residence in the 74 Bungalows area danced to drumbeats and distributed sweets, awaiting her arrival in Bhopal two days later for the grand celebrations. Five kilometres away, outside the 6 Shyamala Hills residence of former Madhya Pradesh CM and ex-Union minister Uma Bharti, it was the sound of bursting crackers that marked the acquittal of Thakur and others in the blast case. Recounting her visit to Nashik Jail, where Thakur had been lodged, Bharti, who is considered one of the prominent BJP figures in the Ayodhya Ram Temple movement, turned emotional. I met Pragya at the Nashik Jail, when no one went there to meet her. A Maharashtra police officer had told me that she was tortured unimaginably. I was in tears while meeting her and still remember her having confirmed to me about having been tortured beyond imagination. I didnt carry anything for her it was she who had kept a garland for me, Bharti said. 2008 Malegaon blast: Mere suspicion can't replace real proof; no evidence for conviction, says court She is Durga (goddess), who preferred tolerating extreme mental and physical torture in custody, rather than succumbing under intense pressure. No ordinary woman could have tolerated such extreme torture. At Nashik Jail, she told me, tell all people, that Ill prefer dying and never allow Hindus and the colour saffron to get kalankit (tarnished), Bharti added while recounting her meeting with Thakur in the jail. Welcoming the NIA courts judgment, Bharti said the verdict had not just absolved Thakur and others from allegedly false charges, but had also given her personal relief. Even I stand acquitted in the court of my soul, she said. Bharti alleged that the 2008 blast incident had been deliberately chosen as part of a larger conspiracy to coin the term saffron terrorism as a counter-narrative against Islamic fundamentalism. Lies were added in the case, and those arrested were subjected to horrific torture just to force them to take certain names. Had they taken those names, then most office-bearers of nationalist organisations and most BJP leaders would have been put behind bars and subjected to similar torture, she alleged. All those who coined the term saffron terrorism should now either apologise to the Hindus or jump into the river Ganga or Narmada. The people now need to decide what extraordinary punishment should be given to those politicians, including P Chidambaram, Rahul Gandhi, Digvijaya Singh and those from left parties, for their deliberate attempts to create fear among Muslims for the consolidation of the minority communitys votes by creating the fake narrative of Hindu fundamentalism to counter Muslim fundamentalism, she added. Ahead of elections Bihar cabinet clears Rs 316 crore for five new dairy, milk powder plants
PATNA: Milk producers in Bihar have reasons to rejoice ahead of the state assembly elections. The Bihar cabinet on Tuesday approved the setting up of five dairy plants, including two milk powder plants, at an estimated cost of Rs 316 crore in the state. Giving a nod to the State Animal and Fish Resources Departments proposal, the state cabinet led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar approved a SIDBI Cluster Development Fund (SCDF) loan for setting up a dairy plant each with a 2 lakh litre capacity at Darbhanga and Wazirganj (Gaya Ji), while another plant with a one lakh litre capacity is to be set up in Gopalganj district. Cabinet Secretariat Departments Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) S Siddharth told the media that the dairy plant at Darbhanga will be set up for Rs 71.32 crore, while the other two plants at Gaya Ji and Gopalganj will be set up for Rs 50.27 crore and Rs 54.73 crore, respectively. Milk powder plants will be set up with a capacity of 30 metric tonnes each at Dehri-On-Sone (Rohtas) and Sitamarhi districts, Siddharth said, adding that the plant at Rohtas will cost Rs 69.66 crore and the one at Sitamarhi Rs 70.33 crore. The decision would not only pave the way for the supply of additional quality milk, but people would also get it on time, besides creating employment opportunities at the local level, the ACS said. In another significant decision, the Cabinet approved the Urban Development and Housing Departments proposal for constituting the Bihar Rajya Safai Karmchari Aayog for the overall development and protection of the rights of sanitation workers across the state. The commission will be headed by a chairman, a vice-chairman, and five members, including one woman or transgender member. Its main job will be to bring sanitation workers into the mainstream, ensuring their economic and social development, welfare, rehabilitation, grievance redressal, and protection of their rights. Allocation for land acquisition for Maa Janki Temple In another important decision, the Cabinet also gave a revised approval of Rs 165.57 crore for the acquisition of 50 acres of land for tourism-related development work and infrastructure facilities at Punauradham temple, believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, in Sitamarhi district. Earlier, Rs 120.58 crore was sanctioned for the purpose. Notably, the Cabinet had on July 1 sanctioned Rs 882.87 crore for the integrated development of Maa Jankis grand temple at Punaura Dham. It will be developed on the lines of the grand Ram temple at Ayodhya. The government has already constituted a nine-member trust christened Shree Janki Janm Bhumi Punaura Dham Mandir Nyas Samiti. CM Nitish Kumar, who unveiled the final design of the temple on June 22, inspected the Janki Mandir at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi district last Saturday. Giving necessary directions to officials, Kumar said that the old structure of the Maa Janki temple will be preserved as it is. Pension for journalists hiked The Cabinet also hiked the monthly pension and family pension for journalists, who will now get a monthly pension of Rs 15,000 against the existing Rs 6,000, and a monthly family pension of Rs 10,000 against the existing Rs 3,000, Siddharth said. The Cabinet approved Sections 4(1) and 5 of the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Yojana Niyamawali 2019. A journalists spouse would be eligible for the monthly pension and family pension only if he/she is neither employed with any media organisation nor with the government. The government said the decision to grant monthly pensions to journalists was aimed at helping them financially so they can lead a dignified life.

Sita temple plan on Shahs Bihar visit agenda on August 8
PATNA: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Bihars Sitamarhi district on August 8 to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Janki temple at Punaura Dham, the mythological birthplace of Goddess Sita. Shah will address a public meeting during his visit. His visit is part of the BJPs strategy to consolidate its political base ahead of the Assembly elections, especially in the Mithila region. CM Nitish Kumar has also assured the state governments full support in developing Punaura Dham as a religious and tourist destination. Political observers suggest that the timing and the scale of the proposed visit of Shah underscore the BJPs attempt to emotionally engage Maithil communities, including Brahmins, Kayasthas, Vaishyas, and the upper-middle classes, through cultural nationalism. The BJP aims to influence 20-25 Assembly seats in the region by addressing the redevelopment issue. The region has a mixed population of Yadav, Muslim, Kushwaha, Dalit and EBC voters. The redevelopment of Punaura Dham is expected to mirror the scale and symbolism of the Ram temple at Ayodhya. Spread over 12 acres, the temple complex will be constructed in the traditional North Indian Nagar style of architecture, utilising white marble and red sandstone. Outreach The timing and the scale of his visit may underscore the BJPs attempt to emotionally engage Maithil communities.

Politicians, poets, journalists never retire: Former MP CM Uma Bharti on RSS chiefs 75-year remark
BHOPAL: Nine days after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwats step aside at the age of 75 years remark, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and ex-union minister Uma Bharti said that politicians, doctors, lawyers, poets, and journalists never retire from public service. Speaking to journalists in Bhopal, the 66-year-old saffron-clad leader, one of the prominent female faces of the Ayodhya Ram Temple movement, said such individuals continue to serve as long as they are called upon to do so. However, she clarified that she will not be able to comment on the RSS chiefs recent statement, in which Bhagwat had recalled about late RSS leader Moropant Pingles statement about retiring at the age of 75. I cannot comment on the statement of the sarsanghchalak. First of all, I am not a member of his traditional organisation but I am a follower of that ideology. I cannot comment on his statement. But I believe that teachers, lawyers, doctors, artists, poets and journalists never retire. They have to do public service as long as it is needed. A guru has to impart knowledge, while a doctor has to feel the pulse. Even on a pyre, if someone pleads for help, a leader has to be alive. She said the knowledge of a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, a journalist, a writer, a musician is like the knowledge of a mother. Even if a mother becomes 80 years old, she will still love you. She will not say I have retired, so I will not give you roti. A person can serve society for a lifetime even after retirement and no one retires from such a thing, Bharti said. Time to step aside: Mohan Bhagwats retirement remark triggers buzz as PM Modi nears 75 Bharti, who did not contest the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections citing health reasons, was asked by journalists what her position would be if the BJP offered her a ticket. The former Jhansi and Khajuraho MP said she was ready to contest, as she had not retired from politics. In remarks that could spark political controversy in the BJP-ruled state, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti - who led the saffron party to power in 2003 after a decade - said her family members had been harassed for many years in the past. The harassment of my family started from 1990 to 1992, cases of robbery and dacoity were registered against my brothers which were not even robberies. She added that even during Digvijaya Singhs regime, a case of murder was registered. Harassment continued till Vyapam. Till date I have not been able to find out why my name came up in Vyayam (scam). She further said that from 2005 to 2013, from 1990 to 1992, her family members were harassed. I wont name any leaderI have told the time. Importantly, the years mentioned by Bharti had BJP governments in the state, including Sunder Lal Patwa (1990-92), Babulal Gaur and Shivraj Singh Chouhan (2005-2013). What kind of 'ghar-wapsi' is this for PM: Congress takes dig at Modi over Bhagwat's remarks
Fake social media accounts fuelling caste tensions: UP CM Yogi Adityanath
LUCKNOW: While hailing tribal communities as the foundation of Indian civilisation, preservers of Sanatan values, and defenders of the nation for centuries, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday warned against rising attempts to allegedly incite caste conflict through fake social media accounts. Calling for immediate action to stop such divisive agendas, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said fake social media accounts were being blatantly used by divisive forces to spark caste-based tensions and vitiate the social atmosphere. In his address, the Chief Minister emphasised that tribal society had always been the bedrock of India's Sanatan tradition. He highlighted its enduring role in defending the nation and safeguarding cultural values across eras. Elaborating with references from the Ramayana and other historical events, Yogi said: When Lord Rama was in exile and Goddess Sita was abducted, it was the tribal community that stood by him to fight the might of demon king Ravana even in the absence of Ayodhyas army. Similarly, Maharana Pratap reorganised his army in the forests of the Aravalli Range with the support of tribal groups and resisted Emperor Akbar. Chhatrapati Shivaji, too, relied on the Vanvasi (forest dwellers) society to lay the foundation of the Hindavi Swarajya. The Chief Minister hailed Birsa Munda as a key figure of Indias national awakening, asserting that tribal communities have consistently played a vital role in protecting Indias spiritual and cultural legacy. While we often associate the struggle for independence with recent history, the tribal society has been fighting for Sanatan Dharma through ages. Taking a firm stance against the alleged divisive forces, the UP CM condemned attempts to fuel caste and communal tensions through fake social media accounts. Recalling a specific incident, he said that a few years ago, there was a case of arson. I had told the district authorities that such an act of arson could not be the handiwork of a particular community. The investigation later confirmed that the person involved in the incident was donning a saffron scarf and was shouting Ya Allah. Such deceptive elements must be exposed and excluded from society if we have to protect national unity, he asserted. CM Yogi added that the same forces, who spread caste-based hatred online, had also allegedly tried to provoke tribal communities against the nation. Such elements must face strict action, he maintained. The CM said previous governments had failed to extend governance and essential services to tribal communities. Where communication breaks down, conflict begins, he said, adding that after 2017, the UP government granted revenue village status to tribal Vantangiya villages, where residents had been denied voting rights since 1947. We ensured delivery of ration cards, land leases, pensions, and development schemes to tribal regions in Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Mirzapur, and the Terai areas bordering Nepal. Describing tribal society as the true embodiment of Indias Sanatan tradition, CM Yogi Adityanath said: Tribal communities live in complete harmony with nature, reflecting the essence of Vedic teachings in their everyday lives. Underscoring the significance of social harmony, the CM emphasised that the ongoing Kanwar Yatra embodied unity transcending caste, creed, and sect. Today, the Yatra is progressing peacefully and with devotion, yet some label it as unruly. These are the same forces that try to mislead and provoke tribal communities. We must remain alert to such divisive elements, he warned. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for declaring November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day), the Chief Minister said the move had instilled a sense of respect and recognition in tribal communities. They are our original society. Tribal Pride Day is a gesture of gratitude and a bridge of communication with them, he noted.

LUCKNOW: In the ongoing legal battle over the Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah Mosque in Mathura, the Allahabad High Court on Friday rejected the Hindu sides plea to declare the Shahi Idgah Mosque, situated on Shree Krishna Janmabhoomi premises, a disputed structure. The petition had sought an official designation of the mosque as a disputed site in court records and all further proceedings. The single-judge bench, comprising Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, dismissed the plea orally, saying the application filed by the Hindu side in this regard is being dismissed at this stage. The judgment, which was reserved on May 23, is being seen as a significant relief for the Muslim litigants in the long-standing legal battle. Notably, advocate Mahendra Pratap Singh, appearing for the Hindu side, had filed an application on March 5 this year, urging the court to declare the Shahi Idgah Mosque as a disputed structure. The contention of the petitioner was that the mosque was built through encroachment and lacked legal documentation proving ownership or religious designation. The Hindu side asserted that the structure could not be called a mosque in the absence of land ownership documents, municipal records, or tax filings. So far, four hearings have taken place in the single-judge bench. Besides this petition, 18 other related petitions filed by the Hindu side have been clubbed by the High Court, and they remain pending before it. All the petitions primarily seek the removal of alleged illegal encroachments from the premises of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, currently referred to as the Shahi Idgah Masjid. The Hindu petitioners claimed that the land where the mosque stands was originally the site of a Krishna temple. They argued that symbols and motifs of Hindu deities were still visible on the mosques walls. They further contended that merely occupying a land illegally did not establish ownership and drew parallels with the Ayodhya dispute. They requested that, similar to the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, the Shahi Idgah should be declared a disputed structure before further legal decisions are made. On the contrary, in response, the Muslim side filed objections, describing the Hindu petition as entirely baseless. They emphasized that the Shahi Idgah had been existing for the last over 400 years. They also argued that the demand to declare it a disputed structure should not only be dismissed but also that the petitioners should be penalized. The Shahi Idgah Mosque is located adjacent to the Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple complex in Mathura. The dispute has drawn national attention, with similarities drawn to the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case in Ayodhya.
For New India, even sky is not the limit: PM Modi in Trinidad & Tobago
PORT OF SPAIN: India will soon be among the top three economies of the world, and its missions on artificial intelligence, semiconductor and quantum computing are becoming the new engines of growth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said. In an address at a gathering of the Indian diaspora on Thursday, Modi said India is a land of opportunities today, and the fruits of its growth and progress are reaching the most needy. For New India, even the sky is not the limit. Modi attended the event hours after landing in Trinidad and Tobago in the second leg of his five-nation tour. It is the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to this Caribbean island nation since 1999. Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, members of her cabinet, lawmakers and several other dignitaries were among over 4,000 people who attended the event. In his remarks, Modi lavished praise on the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago, and said: They left their soil, but not their soul. They left the Ganga and Yamuna behind but carried the Ramayan in their hearts. They left their soil, but not their soul. They were not just migrants. They were messengers of a timeless civilisation, he said. Their contributions have benefitted this country -- culturally, economically and spiritually. Just look at the impact that you have all had on this beautiful nation, he added. The journey of the Indian community in Trinidad & Tobago is all about courage. They faced hardships with hope and problems with persistence. And, they have enriched Trinidad & Tobagos journey towards progress. pic.twitter.com/6Nyvta0qca Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) July 4, 2025 Modi said he brought a replica of the Ram temple and some water from the river Sarayu in Ayodhya. You all know that earlier this year, the world's largest spiritual gathering, the Maha Kumbh, took place. I have the honour to carry water from the Maha Kumbh also with me, he said. I request Kamla ji (prime minister) to offer the holy waters of the Sarayu River and Maha Kumbh to the Ganga Dhara here. May these holy waters bless the people of Trinidad and Tobago, he added. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Trinidad and Tobago Modi said India is actively working on creating a comprehensive database of the Girmitiya community. The community comprised indentured labourers sent from British India to work on plantations in South Africa, Fiji, Mauritius and the Caribbean islands. In his address, the prime minister also highlighted the resilience of the Indian economy and its upward trajectory. India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Soon, we will be among the top three economies of the world. The fruits of India's growth and progress are reaching the most needy, he said. The prime minister said India has shown that poverty can be defeated by empowering the poor and that crores of people, for the first time, have developed the confidence that the country can be freed from poverty. Modi said India's growth is being powered by its innovative and energetic youth. Today, India is the third-largest startup hub in the world. Nearly half of these startups also have women as directors. Nearly 120 startups have got unicorn status, he said. National missions for AI, Semiconductor and Quantum computing are becoming the new engines of growth. In a way, innovation is becoming a mass movement, he noted. Modi also showcased India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI), saying it has revolutionised digital payments. Nearly 50 per cent of the world's real-time digital transactions take place in India. I congratulate Trinidad and Tobago for being the first country in the region to adopt UPI. Now sending money will be as easy as sending a good morning' text message! Chennai artisans craft twin pure-gold swings worth Rs 12 crore for Ram Lallas Shravana ritual
LUCKNOW : In a dazzling new addition to the opulent offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, two intricately designed 24-carat gold jhoolas (swings), crafted by Chennai-based artisans, will soon be used to ceremonially seat Ram Lalla during the auspicious month of Shravana beginning July 11. Each swing weighs approximately 5.5 kg and together they are valued at an estimated Rs 12 crore. The twin jhoolas, created with exquisite precision and devotion, are among the most ritually significant artefacts added to the temple's already lavish collection. The latest addition to the glittering trove of donations enhances the temples grandeur even further. Notably, the sanctum sanctorum is adorned with 42 gold-coated doors, a majestic throne featuring Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, his four brothers and Lord Hanuman; and several other sacred items including crowns, bows, arrows, chhatras and the kalash atop the temples spire, all of which have captured public and media attention since the consecration. According to sources from the temple trust, the jhoolas have been designed in consonance with traditional Vaishnavite aesthetics, featuring lotus-petal-shaped borders, Shankh and Chakra motifs, and delicate floral filigree. The seats are suspended by elaborately carved chains and framed by miniature temple mandapa pillars. Each swing is equipped with cushioned red velvet seating inset with gold brocade. Temple officials said the swings were handcrafted by veteran artisans from Chennai, who have upheld a prosperous lineage of over 200 years in temple craftsmanship, under the guidance of master goldsmiths. The craftsmen drew inspiration from the descriptions in the Valmiki Ramayana, incorporating a blend of traditional repouss techniques, hand-chasing, gem-studded detailing, and modern design precision. Aside from their ornamental appeal, the swings bear deep ritual significance as they are designed for Ram Lalla (the child form of Lord Ram) to be ceremonially seated and gently swung during the holy month of Shravana. As per the rituals, the ornate swings will be installed in the sanctum sanctorum for daily ceremonial use. This act is believed to renew the spiritual bond between devotees and the deity, creating an immersive devotional experience enhanced by rhythmic movement and melodic bhajans. According to Champat Rai, General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the twin jhoolas are more than just ornaments; they are offerings of deep devotion. Their construction by master craftsmen from Chennai brings traditional artistry to Ayodhya, adding to the temples sanctity. We look forward to their use during Shravana as Ram Lalla partakes in the cherished ritual of swinging, he said. Rai confirmed that the twin swings were worth Rs 12 crore, reflecting the depth of devotion among the donors. According to temple trust sources, the temple has thus far utilised approximately 45 kg of gold, worth around Rs 50 crore, for the doors and throne of Lord Ram. The first golden door, measuring 12 feet high and 8 feet wide, was installed on January 10, 2024. Eventually, a total of 46 doors are planned, with 42 being gold-plated using about 100 kg of gold. Unlike the doors and other artefacts, the jhoolas are unique in their function and proximity to the deity, they are not static showpieces but active participants in daily rituals during Shravana. With the holy month approaching, the temple conservatory is finalising installation and ceremonial protocols. The swings will be maintained under temperature-controlled conditions to preserve their golden lustre. Daily aarti rituals with Ram Lalla on the jhoola will be conducted throughout the month, accompanied by devotional singing and temple processions.

Ahead of Polls, Bihar CM announces trust for Maa Janaki Temple at Punaura Dham
PATNA: In a significant move ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced the formation of a dedicated trust to accelerate the construction of the Maa Janaki Temple at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi district. The temple, revered as the birthplace of Goddess Sita, will be developed on the lines of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, with a vision to establish it as a prominent religious and tourist destination of national importance. Speaking about the redevelopment project, Nitish Kumar said that the detailed design plan for the grand temple complex at Punaura Dham had been finalised. Sharing images of the proposed design on social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated: I am very happy to inform you that the design of the grand temple and other structures for the holistic development of Jagat Janani Maa Janakis birthplace, Punaura Dham, Sitamarhi, is now ready. A trust has also been formed to expedite the construction work. The proposed plan includes a majestic 151-foot-high temple structure, broad walkways, and extensive green landscaping, aimed at enhancing both the spiritual and aesthetic experience for devotees. Punaura Dham is considered the most sacred site after Janakpur in Nepal for followers of the Hindu faith, and holds deep religious significance as the birthplace of Maa Sita. The development initiative gains additional significance in light of the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya earlier this year. Devotees from the Janaki Temple had participated by offering sacred gifts during the Pran Pratishtha ceremony in January 2024. Reiterating his demand to the Centre, Nitish Kumar once again urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the completion of the Ram-Janaki Marg, which will connect Ayodhya and Sitamarhi. He also called for the introduction of a Vande Bharat train between the two spiritual centres. The Bihar government has committed to acquiring nearly 50 acres of land surrounding the temple to facilitate the development project. Sufficient funds have already been allocated for the timely completion of the ambitious endeavour.
