'Fought Hard For This One,' Writes Kuldeep Yadav After India Win ODI Series With SA
Kuldeep Yadav: India's left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has put out a message on social media, asserting that the team has fought hard to bag the ODI series against South Africa 2-1 after winning the third and final match by nine wickets with a dominant display at the ACA-VDCa Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. Kuldeep claimed 4-41 and, along with Prasidh Krishna (4-65), helped bundle out South Africa for 270 despite a super century by Quinton de Kock, who hammered a 89-ball 106 and a 67-ball 48 by skipper Temba Bavuma. Fought hard for this one, said Kuldeep Yadav in a story on his Instagram handle. Earlier, Kuldeep said he enjoyed bowling with a dry ball after KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bowl first, thus avoiding the dew that had affected their bowling in the first two matches of the three-match series. We started well, Arshdeep and Harshit, they kept tight lines in seven-eight overs. When spinners came, it was a bit gripping. Tried to mix the pace. Bowling with a dry ball is a luxury after the first two games. We lost 20 successive tosses; finally, we won it (toss). Very happy, said Yadav after helping India bowl out South Africa. Yadav had a near-animated discussion with skipper K.L. Rahul and Rohit Sharma as he pleaded with them to use DRS in the last couple of overs of his 10-over spell. Yadav admitted that he is not that good with the DRS, and Rohit keeps pulling his leg for that. Yadav had a near-animated discussion with skipper K.L. Because of the 34-over ball-change rule, if the ball is dry, it was holding on the pitch. It wasn't easy to score if there is turn. I tried variations too - legspin, googly, flipper, said Kuldeep Yadav. Article Source: IANS

Repo Rate Slashed to 5.25 percent; Softer Rate Cycle Reignites Demand Across Real Estate Sector
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has unanimously cut the repo rate by 25 basis points, bringing it to 5.25 percent. This marks the fourth rate reduction in 2025, totalling a cumulative 125 bps cut since the start of the year. This decisive move comes against a backdrop of easing inflation, stable growth, and an eagerness to boost liquidity and credit flow. For homebuyers, particularly those looking at affordable, mid-income, or even premium housing across NCR and other urban corridors, this signals a fresh wave of affordability. As banks adjust lending rates, borrowers with floating-rate home loans may soon see lower EMIs, reviving demand and giving impetus to property purchases. The softer interest rate environment is thus set to underpin stronger housing demand through the remainder of 2025 and into 2026, a period likely to see many fence-sitters finally turning into homeowners. Repo Rate Slashed to 5.25 percent; Reignites Demand Across Real Estate Sector Real-estate developers welcomed the decision, noting that it could accelerate demand, convert cautious buyers into committed ones, and provide the needed boost to both residential and commercial launches in the coming year. Sandeep Chhillar, Founder and Chairman, Landmark Group , says, " The RBI bringing the repo rate down by 25 basis points marks a strong pro-growth signal and undoubtedly benefits the real estate sector. With home loan rates likely to fall further, affordability will improve, especially for first-time homebuyers. This move is expected to reignite demand, sustain buyer interest, and create a favourable environment for continued growth across the housing market. " Umang Jindal, CEO, Homeland Group , says, The 25 bps rate cut is a welcome breather for the industry, especially at a time when growth is spreading beyond metros. In Tier-II cities, were seeing families upgrade to better homes and businesses look for organised commercial spaces. This reduction nudges both trends forward. It lowers borrowing costs, improves sentiment, and makes it easier for developers like us to fast-track mixed-use neighbourhoods where people can live, work, and shop within the same ecosystem. As we head into 2026, Tier-II markets are set to witness stronger absorption, better retail activity, and sustained demand for quality residential projects driven by aspiration and improved affordability . Sehaj Chawla, Managing Director, TREVOC Group , says, The cumulative softening of rates with the latest 25 bps cut bringing the effective lending environment to 5.25 percentfrom 6.50 percentlast year marks a total reduction of 1.25 percent, which is a major boost for homebuyers. Lower borrowing costs directly translate into higher purchasing power and faster decision-making. Supported by stable inflation and strong GDP momentum, this move sets the stage for accelerated growth across the real estate sector . Harinder Singh Hora, Founder Chairman, Reach Group , says, " Retail thrives on consumer confidence, and the RBIs move to bring the repo rate down to 5.25 percentis exactly the sentiment boost the sector needed. For developers, this signals a stronger investment climate, easier access to capital, and faster decision-making from brands planning expansion. We anticipate higher leasing activity across high-streets, malls and experience-led retail centres in Gurugram, as occupiers move quickly to secure prime spaces before the new year. By 2026, this policy shift will contribute significantly to a more vibrant, liquid, and future-ready retail ecosystem across NCR, benefiting both developers and brands ." Shyamrup Roy Choudhury, Founder and Managing Director, Aura World , says, The 25 bps rate cut is a highly encouraging development for the luxury housing segment, where sentiment and confidence play a far larger role than affordability. Affluent buyers tracking macro trends will view this as a strong green signal to advance large-ticket purchases. Further, the reduced rate will strengthen liquidity for developers building high-spec, design-led communities. As we look toward 2026, luxury housing will continue gaining momentum, powered by wealth creation, asset diversification, and Indias rising global economic position. Ankit Kansal, MD, 360 Realtors , says, The recent decision by RBI to lower the Repo Rate is a welcome step, as it will enable reduction in home loan rates and make property more affordable in numerous urban corridors such as MMR, NCR, Bangalore, Pune and Chandigarh. The inflation rates are benign, and the economy appears to be on a strong footing marked by healthy agrarian output, a rise in rural demand and strong corporate savings. In such a situation, it is seemingly a prudent move to lower the REPO rate and infuse liquidity in the market . Ashwani Kumar, Pyramid Infratech , says, " The 25 bps cut, especially after two consecutive status-quo policy announcements, signals a renewed push toward affordability and market confidence. For Gurugrams end-user-driven corridors, this will encourage families who were delaying decisions due to rate uncertainties. As we enter the year-end buying cycle and prepare for 2026, this move is set to enhance absorption across well-connected micro-markets and support long-term stability in premium housing ." Azad Ahmad Lone, President, Business Development and Operations, Biigtech , says, " The RBIs 25 bps repo rate cut couldnt have come at a better time for NCRs commercial sector. Cities like Noida-Greater Noida are becoming Indias most credible alternative to traditional commercial hubs, due to strong connectivity, a deep talent pool, and highly competitive rentals. Were seeing GCCs and global MNCs actively exploring sizeable office mandates here. This rate reduction will only make capital deployment smoother for new Grade A offices, high-street clusters, and integrated workretail spaces. Moving toward 2026, we expect sharper pre-commitments, longer leases, and a robust pipeline of institutionally backed commercial assets ". As the market absorbs the implications of the RBIs 25 bps rate cut, the momentum clearly tilts toward a more active and confident real estate cycle. Lower EMIs, improved liquidity, and a sentiment boost across buyer segments position the sector for a healthier close to 2025.

From criticism to curiosity: How BJPs manifesto grabbed eyeballs
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an election season dominated by long, text-cluttered manifestos, the NDA has thrown a curveball. Its Thiruvananthapuram corporation manifesto, released on November 30, has become one of the most talked-about campaign documents in the city not for its content alone, but for its strikingly unconventional, infographic-driven design that looks more like a colourful route map than a political pledge sheet. The moment the pamphlet is opened, voters are greeted with a bright roadmap graphic winding across the pages, carrying the partys promises like pit stops on a journey to 2030. Instead of marathon paragraphs, the BJP also presented its core commitments in seven punchy, quick-read boxes a format insiders say was crafted to make the manifesto instantly readable. But what truly propelled the manifesto into public conversation was not its visuals alone it was the oppositions furious reaction to a single line: the BJPs proposal that Thiruvananthapuram could be pitched as one of the event venues of the 2036 Olympics. We have mentioned that we would request the Centre to make Thiruvananthapuram one of the event venues for the 2036 Olympics, a senior BJP leader overseeing campaign coordination said. But the UDF and LDF went after us aggressively on this proposal. Ironically, that made our manifesto go viral. Everywhere we went, people asked us to show them our Olympics proposal and wed pull out the pamphlet. Even ground-level BJP workers admit the new look caught them off guard. We didnt expect this level of excitement. People look at the design first, then start asking questions about the Olympics, a party volunteer said. Party sources said that BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar personally pushed for the clean, modern format, insisting that the voter should understand the partys priorities in one glance. One councillor candidate described the reaction from colleagues: Some were sceptical. Some feared it would be subject to trolls. But the leadership said, lets take the risk. And it became a hit. Designers involved in the project said they were initially worried people might mock the roadmap look. But this time, the gamble paid off. Whether well repeat it in the Assembly elections thats a secret, said a member of the graphics team. While some voters welcomed the change and others dismissed it, many agreed that the format is undeniably different. Im unlikely to read an entire manifesto because of my schedule, but I went through the BJPs version since the points were easy to grasp. Im not sure if this approach will work, but it is impressive, said Tom Joseph, a software engineer and city resident. I personally prefer the old style of manifestos. I dont like this new format, but I must admit it caught my attention, said Divya Gopinath, a senior citizen. Insiders hint that the party is already brainstorming more innovative formats for upcoming manifestos. If everyone starts copying this style for the Assembly polls, why should we repeat it? a senior leader quipped. Well bring in a new surprise. For now, the BJPs colourful roadmap manifesto has become a curious subplot in the citys campaign trail a reminder that in politics, how you present your promises can sometimes create more buzz than the promises themselves.
How green is Agra master plan? Architecture school set to study
Is hygiene harming women's lungs?
Cleaning our homes as always is a step towards good health. But recent research now warns that this daily habit or deep cleaning of houses maybe a silently damaging the lungs, especially in women. A European study found that women who regularly clean or deep clean their homes experienced a lung-function decline equivalent to smoking 10-20 cigarettes in a day over the same period. The study, which involved more than 6,000 individuals, showed that women who clean homes once a week may have measurable reduction in lung capacity even though they have never smoked. Men, interestingly, did not experience the same lung damage. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), household air pollution contributes to 3.2 million premature deaths every year worldwide. In India, where domestic cleaning is usually done by women compared to men, the impact is particularly severe on women. Household air pollution is estimated to account for 4-6% of the nations total diseases rate, making it a significant yet often overlooked public health concern. We assume that air pollution is only caused by traffic or industrial emissions, but studies show that indoor air can often be equally polluted. Cleaning products, toilet cleaners, detergents and room fresheners all emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and fine particles like PM2.5 and PM10, which remains in the air. Inhaling these can trigger respiratory issues such as asthma, chronic issues, lung damage, and even chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). Natural products like baking soda, white vinegar, essential oils, and lemon juice can be used instead, for cleaning. Over time this exposure leads to respiratory problems, inflammation and in some cases, irreversible interstitial lung damage. Why women are at greater risk Women in Indian households spend more time indoors and are typically responsible for cleaning, cooking, etc., all of these increase their exposure to indoor pollutants. Household works like sweeping, mopping with strong disinfectants and using aerosol sprays contain fine dust and chemical fumes that remain in the air. Children in these homes also face long-term respiratory risks as their lungs are developing and are more sensitive to toxins. Safer Cleaning Habits for Healthier Lungs Small changes in daily cleaning practices can reduce these risks by: Avoiding aerosol and fragranced spray cleaners whenever possible. Using alternatives such as a microfibre cloth and plain water for dusting. Keeping doors and windows open while cleaning for ventilation. Choosing natural, non-toxic and fragrance-free cleaning products. Wearing a mask or using gloves during deep cleaning to reduce chemical exposure. The Need for Awareness The growing population of India is now relying on quick fix cleaning sprays and strong chemical disinfectants without understanding the impact and harmful chemicals involved. Public awareness campaigns are essential to help people understand the risks, and make safer choices, and encourage manufacturers to clearly label product ingredients and potential health hazards. Cleaning product commercials always highlight their features like long-lasting fragrance, or 99.9% germ-killing power, but rarely mention that these same chemicals release harmful volatile compounds into the air. The truth is that the scent of lemon or lavender doesnt mean safety, it often signals the presence of chemicals and artificial fragrances. Cleaning our own homes should never come at the cost of health issues. Understanding the hidden danger in everyday cleaning, and understanding these sustainable practices can protect not only just women but the entire family from any respiratory harm and health problems. (The writer, dr Sindhu V, is a a consultant pulmonologist at SRM Global Hospitals, Chennai)

Assam black tea, Kashmiri saffron, Bhagavad Gita among PM Modi's gifts to Putin
NEW DELHI: Flavourful Assam black tea, Kashmiri saffron, a handcrafted silver horse, an ornate tea set and a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita are among the gifts Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave to Russian President Vladimir Putin. A copy of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita presents Lord Krishna's guidance to Arjuna on duty, the eternal soul and spiritual liberation during the battle of the Mahabharata. Its timeless wisdom inspires ethical living, mind control and inner peace, with translations making it accessible to modern readers worldwide, officials said. Grown in the fertile Brahmaputra plains, Assam black tea is prized for its robust malty flavour, bright liquor and traditional processing using the 'Assamica' variety. Recognised with a GI tag in 2007, it represents a rich heritage shaped by land, climate and craft. Beyond its cultural legacy, it is also valued for potential health benefits, making each cup both comforting and wholesome. The ornate Murshidabad silver tea set, crafted with intricate engravings, reflects the rich artistry of West Bengal and the deep cultural importance of tea in both India and Russia. Gifted with affection, the set celebrates the enduring India-Russia friendship and the timeless ritual of tea, the officials said. The handcrafted silver horse from Maharashtra, adorned with intricate detailing, showcases the finesse of India's metal craft traditions. Symbolising dignity and valour celebrated in both Indian and Russian cultures, it reflects shared heritage and mutual respect, the officials said. The poised and forward-moving stance of the handcrafted horse serves as a metaphor for the enduring and ever-advancing India-Russia partnership. The handcrafted marble chess set from Agra blends fine craftsmanship with functional elegance, highlighting the region's stone inlay heritage under the 'One District One Product' (ODOP) initiative. Kashmiri saffron, locally known as Kong or Zaffran, cultivated in the highlands of Kashmir, is prized for its rich colour, aroma and flavour, and holds deep cultural and culinary significance.

Russia reportedly bans Snapchat and FaceTime
Roskomnadzor, Russia's federal agency for monitoring and censoring mass media, has blocked access to Snapchat and FaceTime in the country, Bloomberg reports , citing Russian news service Interfax. The bans were reportedly put in place because the platforms were used to organize and carry out terrorist acts, and commit fraud. It's not clear if either service is still accessible by using a VPN, but banning Snapchat and FaceTime fits with Russias crackdown on communication and social platforms that started after the countrys invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Facebook and X were blocked in March of that year, and Instagram was added to the ban list not long after. In 2024, the encrypted messaging app Signal was also banned, and more recently in July 2025, Russia threatened to block access to WhatsApp . Engadget has contacted both Apple and Snap to comment on the Russian bans. We'll update this article if we hear back. Banning or restricting these platforms is a way to exert control over where and how conversation happens in Russia and prevent the spread of LGBT propaganda, if you believe Roskomnadzor's reasoning for banning Roblox but it might also be an attempt to drive people to use MAX, a state-run super app that offers services like communication, banking and document storage. The app is part of a long-standing push to rely on Russia's tech industry rather than foreign companies, and could potentially give the Russian government an easier method for surveilling its citizens, The New York Times reports . Meta says it's fixing its broken support system, with the help of AI
If you've ever had something go wrong with your Facebook or Instagram account, then you probably have a good idea of just how frustrating the support process can be. The company's automated processes are so broken that some people have found that suing Meta in small claims court can be a more reliable way of getting help from the company. Now, Meta says it's trying to address some of these longstanding issues. In an update , the company acknowledged that its support hasnt always met expectations but that a series of AI-powered updates should make it easier for people to get help. The company is rolling out a new support hub on Facebook and Instagram that is meant to bring all of its support features into one place. The hub will also have a new AI chat feature so users can ask questions about account issues or Meta's policies. An in-app support hub might not be that helpful if you can't access your account, though. A Meta spokesperson pointed to its external account recovery tool, which is meant to help people get back into their accounts. Recovering hacked accounts has long been a pain point for Facebook and Instagram users. But Meta says that it's now improved the process with better email and text alerts. AI has also helped the company's systems detect devices and locations you've frequently used in the past. Our new account recovery experience adjusts to your particular situation with clearer guidance and simpler verification, Meta writes. Weve also expanded recovery methods to include taking an optional selfie video to further verify your identity. Meta is also starting to test a new AI support assistant on Facebook that can provide instant, personalized help for issues like account recovery or managing your profile. It's not clear how this will work, or if it will enable people to talk to an actual person who works for Meta. For now, the most reliable way to access live support is via a Meta Verified subscription, though many users report that the chat-based service isn't able to help with more complex issues. A Meta spokesperson said that the assistant is in the early stages of testing and is currently only available to some Facebook users globally. Those who are part of the test can find it via the app's new support hub. According to Meta, these improvements have already shown some success in helping people get back into hacked accounts. The company says that this year it has increased the relative success rate of hacked account recovery by more than 30% in the US and Canada. Meta's Oversight Board wants to expand its powers in 2026
The Oversight Board is getting ready to tackle a new pain point for Facebook and Instagram users. Up to now, users have been able to appeal content moderation decisions related to specific posts to the board, but haven't been able to ask the group to intervene in other situations that affect their accounts. That could soon change. The board says that it will weigh in on individual account-level penalties in a pilot next year. The board noted the change in an impact report recapping its five-year history and what lies ahead in the year to come. In 2026, our scope expands once more as we pilot the ability to review Metas decisions removing and impacting accounts, something that has created ongoing frustration for platform users, the report says. It's not clear how this process will work, but if the board plans to take on account-level issues like suspensions, it would be a significant expansion of its purview. In an interview with Engadget, board member Paolo Carozza said that Meta is expected to refer a case to the board in January that will deal with an account-level issue. The handling of that case will allow the board to explore how it might take on similar cases in the future. We're really excited to take it on because we think it's an important area that really affects a lot of users and their interests, he told Engadget. We all know how many people are constantly coming forward complaining about account-level restrictions or blocking or whatever else, and so if we get it right and it's going to be important to work it out this first pilot we're really optimistic that it's going to help open up a whole new avenue for us to be helpful to the users of [Meta's] platforms. Carozza added that there are a number of technical aspects and other questions still being worked out between the board and Meta. So for now, it's too soon to say whether there will ever be an official appeals process for suspensions, like there currently is for post removals. But he says Meta is equally invested in the effort. It's something we've been talking about with Meta for well over a year, he said. They've been expressing an openness and a willingness to give us access to those kinds of questions. The Oversight Board's report hints at another way its influence could potentially expand. It notes that the group's work has made it well-positioned to partner with a range of global tech companies as they navigate issues arising from free speech debates globally. Both Meta and Oversight Board officials have previously floated the idea that other companies might want to take advantage of its expertise. Up to now, most other platforms have had little incentive to do so. But Carozza says the rise of generative AI has created some new interest from non-Meta affiliated platforms, and that there have been really preliminary conversations with other companies. It feels like quite a different moment now, largely because of generative AI, LLMs, chatbots [and] the way that a variety of retail-level users of these technologies are facing a whole new set of challenges and harms that's attracting a lot of scrutiny, he said. We have had conversations in recent months with other tech companies in this space about the possibility that the board might be able to contribute helpful services to them to help navigate some of these really thorny questions. Madras Art Weekend reimagines the city through art
In Chennai, art is not merely something that hangs on walls; it drifts through salt-sweet sea breeze, stains fingers with filter coffee brown, echoes from temple corridors, and hums along the tracks of a metro line cutting through old neighbourhoods. The city itself is a living canvas. It is this sentiment that Madras Art Weekend (MAW) returns to celebrate, where Madras and art are nearly synonymous, each reshaping and reimagining the other. In its fourth edition, the theme for Madras Art Weekend 2025 is Madras Reimagined, asking a pertinent question: how do we preserve the memory of a city while sculpting its future? The annual festival, founded by Upasana Asrani, has evolved into a highly anticipated cultural event in Chennais creative calendar, bringing together artists, designers, architects, gallerists, collectors, and audiences. Madras Art Weekend is a festival for the city and for its people. It celebrates the spirit of Chennai and its creative pulse, says Upasana, reflecting on the journey since MAW began in 2022. What started as a niche space for contemporary art has since transformed into a movement that now shapes and mirrors Chennais cultural imagination. The festival has grown from strength to strength, year after year, evolving into a massive movement. People have been eager to be part of it, and it has now become an annual legacy of the city of Chennai, she says. The theme was conceived after months of conversations across the artistic ecosystem, which Upasana refers to as cultural custodians. MAWs visual identity, this year, was conceptualised with branding collaborators Whoa Mama Design, who worked closely with the festival to give shape to a narrative rooted in the cinematic, emotional, and historical layers of the city. We wanted to look at Madras through the lens of its past as well as its future, and the idea of Madras Reimagined emerged, she says. This edition expands its creative geography far beyond a single venue. While the VIP preview and Gallery Exhibit at Taj Coromandel remain the central showcase, featuring leading galleries such as Saralas Art Centre, DakshinaChitra Museum, Memeraki, among others, the festival spills into the city through collaborations with spaces including Raw Mango, Gallery Veda, Lakshana, and others. MAW has built a growing community through year-round engagement. We dont wake up a month before and scramble to put a programme together. We host events every month to stay connected with our community, Upasana notes. This includes collector home tours, studio visits, gallery collaborations, and digital storytelling formats that take audiences behind the scenes of the art-making process. Among the most anticipated additions this year is the Art Vandi, created in collaboration with NalandaWay Foundation. It is a mobile art van that has travelled through rural pockets, carrying art materials to children in remote communities. The vandi has enough art material for students to come in and do workshops with facilitators, says Upasana. Schools and institutions across Chennai have been invited to engage with the programme, reinforcing the festivals intent to plant seeds for the next generation of makers. The programming also includes a special workshop with Rainbow Fish Studio led by Sara Vettet, alongside a dynamic line-up of panel discussions, exhibition walkthroughs, and performances that bring together industry leaders, celebrated designers, architects, and artists from across the country, culminating in a poetic closing performance by Lekha Washington at Wild Garden Caf, Amethyst. For someone stepping into Madras Art Weekend for the first time, Upasanas message is simple: Explore all the parallel shows happening across the city, and then come to Taj, where all the galleries are exhibiting. Come, soak in the art, experience it. She reflects with quiet emotion, sharing that she is dedicating this edition to her late mother, whose support shaped her journey, and to her guide and mentor, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. MAWs commitment to inclusivity is visible in its educational and social outreach initiatives last years effort saw Chennais art community contribute supplies to students of Government College of Fine Arts, and this year, the festival hopes to fund the education of two deserving art students. In this edition of MAW, Chennai does not gaze nostalgically backwards; it walks forward with its history at its side. Madras Art Weekend 2025 unfolds across venues in Chennai, with the Gallery Exhibit at Taj Coromandel open to the public from today until December 6. Visit @madrasartweekend on Instagram.

Eight lakh children dropped out of schools in academic year, 3.7 lakh girls: Minister
NEW DELHI: India recorded nearly 8.5 lakh out-of-school children (OoSC) in 2025-26, of whom 3.7 lakh were girls, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. In a written reply, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur, said that in 2024-25, the provisional figure for total OoSC was 11,76,894, of whom 5,09,499 were girls. She said the key reasons for children dropping out of school included migration, the socio-economic condition of families, the imposition of domestic responsibilities on children, and the need for children to work. A year later, the number of out-of-school children stood at 8,49,991 in 2025-26 (provisional), while the figure for girls was 3,78,877. In 2021-22, when the OoSC number stood at 27,79,644, there were 12,68,594 girls among them. In 2022-23, the OoSC number was 9,83,610, with 4,71,846 girls. In 2023-24, the total OoSC figure was 7,80,669, of whom 3,54,653 were girls. Thakur said that to reduce dropout rates, the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Union Education Ministry is implementing Samagra Shiksha , an integrated scheme for school education launched in 2018-19, covering the entire gamut from pre-school to Class XII. Among the various steps taken are the opening and strengthening of new schools up to the senior secondary level; construction of school buildings and additional classrooms; setting up, upgrading and running of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas; establishing Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalayas; provision of free uniforms, free textbooks and transport allowance; enrolment and retention drives; construction of hostels under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan for unsaturated ST populations; and reimbursement under the RTE Act. The Samagra Shiksha scheme has been aligned with the recommendations of NEP 2020 to ensure that all children have access to quality education within an equitable and inclusive classroom environment that considers diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs and differing academic abilities, and encourages active participation in learning. More initiatives to address the issue The minister said the government has also undertaken initiatives such as the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) and the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID to monitor dropout rates and other education indicators. In addition, support is being provided through special training for age-appropriate admission of out-of-school children and training programmes for older residential and non-residential students. Seasonal hostels or residential camps, special training centres at worksites, and transport or escort facilities are also being provided to bring out-of-school children back into the formal education system. Financial assistance of up to 2,000 per annum is being provided to out-of-school children aged 1619 years, belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged groups, to help them complete their education through NIOS/SIOS and access course materials and certification. Under the student-oriented component for children with special needs, the scheme provides financial assistance for identification and assessment, aids and appliances, Braille kits and books, appropriate teachinglearning material, and stipends for girl students with disabilities. All states and Union Territories have been directed to reduce dropout rates and the number of out-of-school children. States have also been asked to participate in the Bringing Children Back to School campaign with active involvement of School Management Committees and community participation through Panchayati Raj Institutions.
