People across India revel in Diwali; Delhi defies firecracker ban
NEW DELHI: Colourful lights decked up buildings and diyas (earthen lamps) dotted houses as people across the country celebrated Diwali with great enthusiasm on Thursday. The railway minister is always presented as highly educated and his association with premium institutes like IITs is highlighted, but he has failed to solve problems of the common people who are dependent on the Railways for travel, Raut claimed. Mumbai city not only gives maximum revenue but has the highest number of suburban passengers. However, the railway minister has not taken any steps to solve the problems, the Rajya Sabha member charged. Raut also hit out at the NDA government at the Centre over some of the railway accidents in the country during its tenure. Since the third term of this new Union government has commenced, at least 25 major railway accidents have taken place, he claimed. What solution did the government provide to address them? Raut asked. Who is responsible for so many people getting injured (referring to stampede at Bandra station)? Is there not an onus on the railway minister? he sought to know.

Villagers in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh reportedly killed the last wolf of a pack of six wolves on Saturday night, ending the three-month-long operation Operation Bhedia to nab the pack. The killing of the last wolf has brought relief to around three dozen villages in the Mahasi Block of the district at the Indo-Nepal border. The possible last wolf, reportedly killed by villagers while preying on a goat, was found deadoutside of Tamajpur village of Mahsi block. The pack killed eight people including seven children and injured more than 50 people in the past few months. The forest department had deployed a 16-team consisting of over 200 staff, community members, wildlife enthusiasts, and daily wage labourers to nab the pack. According to State officials, three months long operation costs over Rs 50 lakh where main expenses were for roping in of thermal drones, food of local staff and community members, daily wage labourers and arrangement of prey such as goats and others. Experts say flooding in nearby rivers have flooded their habitats which pushed these wolves near to human habitats. According tothe Divisional Forest Officer of Bahraich district, Ajeet Pratap Singh, the rest of the five wolves have already been nabbed. Out of which one died during the operation and rest of the four were kept in Lucknow and Gorakhpur zoo. Fourth wolf captured after pack killed nine people in 45 days in UP's Bahraich Fifth wolf from 'killer' pack captured in UP's Bahraich, one more at large According to officials, the dead wolf injured neck with a sharp weapon and blood profusely oozed out. We reached the site and sent the body of the wolf for postmortem to know the cause of death and an FIR will be filed after that, he further adds. Meanwhile, Wolf is protected under Schedule 1 of Wildlife Protection Act and Globally, it is also prominently listed under CITES Appendix 1. Yellowish brown in colour with black patches, Indian wolves weigh around 17 to 25 kg, prefer to live in open forests and scrubland and their numbers range between 2000-3000. They prey upon mid-sized animals such as chinkara, black buck, rabbits, rodents and sometimes they try to steal sheep and goats from human settlements. The pack is always led by alpha males and females to raise their kids and protect their territory. Dr Abhishek Ghoshal of Wildlife Trust of India said human persecution of wolves due to misconceptions like howling is considered as bad omens. Culturally, wolves were always presented in a negative light despite knowing the fact that their natural prey was reduced which made them attracted to domesticated animals in villages, said Ghosal. He further adds that there is no dedicated programme in India for the conservation of wolves. UP CM Yogi calls Pakistan cancer to humanity, advocates surgical intervention
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday referred to Pakistan as a cancer to humanity, describing it as a festering wound for the world that requires a surgical intervention to be cured. CM Yogi made these remarks while addressing a gathering during the consecration ceremony of the Siddheshwari Temple in Tripura. The event was inaugurated by CM Yogi alongside his Tripura counterpart, Dr Manik Saha. In his speech, the Uttar Pradesh CM referred to the partition of India in 1947 along religious lines, stating that the public should be aware of those responsible for dividing the country. He remarked, We should not forget how the then social order had blunted the British plot to divide Bengal in 1905. Similarly, if the Congress leadership, along with Jogendra Nath Mandal, had thwarted the conspiracy of the Muslim League at the time of independence, Pakistan would never have come into being. Adityanath asserted that resolving the issue of Pakistan requires decisive action, adding, The process has already begun. People of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) wish to join India, and Balochistan is also seeking independence from Pakistan. The Chief Minister highlighted the role of saints in protecting the nation and religion, calling them epresentatives of divine power on earth. He emphasised the importance of unity among saints from various sects, saying, When such a significant number of saints get united for any cause, success is inevitable. He stressed that collective effort is necessary to prevent destructive forces from gaining a foothold and urged the nation to eliminate 'anti-religion' powers to avoid a situation similar to that of Bangladesh from arising in India. Both the nation and religion must be safeguarded, CM Yogi said, adding that if religion is protected, it will also protect its followers. Referring to the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Krishna, he stated, Only the 'Murali' (flute) will not serve the purpose. The 'Sudarshan Chakra' must also be used to protect religion when required. He also drew attention to the plight of Hindus in neighbouring Bangladesh. CM Yogi commended the strength and unity of Tripuras rulers, noting how they kept the state independent and secure by protecting it from heretics and foreign invaders. He remarked, Those leaders who demonstrate strength and make their enemies aware of it will always remain safe. However, those who lose their strength and fail to distinguish between friends and foes will face consequences, as we see in Bangladesh today. The Chief Minister also praised the services of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), highlighting their selfless service. RSS and VHP are engaged in selfless service without resorting to any propaganda, he said. He noted that RSS operates thousands of educational institutions and service initiatives worldwide through Vidya Bharati, while the VHP runs Ekal Vidyalayas in over 100,000 villages across India's tribal areas. Back in 1984, the VHP also established a tribal hostel in Gorakhpur through the Shri Ram Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, providing education to children from the North East, CM Yogi added. Touching on the construction of the grand temple of Lord Shri Ram in Ayodhya, Adityanath said the long wait of five centuries had finally come to an end. While acknowledging that some may oppose the temple's construction, he stated, There is little that can be done about those who feel discontented. He emphasised that the government is respecting the faith of the majority of Indians. He also reiterated that Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi are the three major pillars of Sanatan Dharma, and these sacred places would continue to flourish as revered centres of the Sanatan faith. The newly-built temple in Barkathal is part of the network of 24 temples managed by the Shanti Kali Ashram in the northeastern region.
Gyanvapi mosque is Lord Vishwanath himself, says Adityanath
Some unfortunately refer to it as a mosque, the U.P. CM said in Gorakhpur
Unfortunately, people call Gyanvapi a mosque, but it is actually Baba Vishwanath: Yogi Adityanath
LUCKNOW: Creating a few ripples, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, on Saturday, called Gyanvapi the real embodiment of Lord Vishwanath himself. He said it was unfortunate that people associated the name with a mosque, referring to the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi. Unfortunately, people call Gyanvapi a mosque, but it is actually Baba Vishwanath (Lord Shiva) himself, said Yogi while addressing the inaugural session of an international seminar on the 'Contribution of Nathpanth in the Creation of a Harmonious Society' at Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. CM Yogis statement has come close to the order of the Varanasi court on the Gyanvapi case on Thursday, wherein, the court rejected a petition from the Hindu side seeking repairs to the basement of Vyas Ji ka Thekhana on the Gyanvapi mosque premises. Later, the CMs remarks were posted on his official social media handle as: Today people call Gyanvapi a mosque in other words, but Gyanvapi is actually Lord Vishwanath personified. , '' ... pic.twitter.com/njo9Fk03Xe Yogi Adityanath (@myogiadityanath) September 14, 2024 Yogi Adityanath added that the devotees visiting the site feeling confused about its true identity or name was the biggest obstacle not only to worship and offering prayers but also to national unity and integrity. Meanwhile, the first reaction to Yogi Adityanaths statement over Gyanvapi came from Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi of All India Muslim Jamat. The Muslim cleric said that UP CMs statement was against the decorum of the chair of the chief minister. He said that Gyanvapi was a historical mosque and that he did not agree with CM Yogi's statement. He is the CM for the entire state irrespective of section which supports him and those who do not, said Maulana. The cleric said that Namaz was being offered at Gyanvapi for ages and it was a well-known mosque. However, earlier during the discourse, CM Yogi recounted a legend about Lord Shiva testing the spiritual evolution of Adi Shankaracharya, who was visiting Kashi after establishing spiritual centres in all four corners of India. Elaborating on the tradition of saints and sages and describing them as a force that united society and the nation, Yogi delved in detail about Adi Shankaracharya, who was born in Kerala and established key Peethas for the expansion of religion and spirituality across the country. When Adi Shankaracharya arrived in Kashi, Lord Vishwanath sought to test him. As the sage and spiritual guru went to bathe in holy river Ganga during Brahma Muhurta, Lord Vishwanath appeared before him disguised as an untouchable. When Adi Shankaracharya asked him to step aside, Lord Vishwanath, still in that form, challenged him, saying that if the hermit was truly full of Advaita knowledge, he should not see people only as the physical body. If Brahma is the ultimate truth, then the same brahma resides in me also as he is there in you, said Lord Shiva disguised as an untouchable. CM Yogi added: When stunned Adi Shankara asked the untouchable for his real identity, Lord Shiva came into his real being revealing to him that he was the one for whose worship (Adi Shankara) had gone to Gyanvapi in Kashi. The CM then concluded that Gyanvapi was a real embodiment of Lord Vishwanath. Stating that the tradition of Indian sages and saints with special reference to Nathpanth to which Yogi Adityanath himself belongs, had valued an egalitarian and harmonious society since ancient times, the UP CM said: Our saints and sages have consistently emphasized that physical untouchability is not only a barrier to spiritual practice but also an obstacle to national unity and integrity. The Chief Minister further noted that if more attention had been paid to eliminate untouchability, the country would have never been enslaved. The tradition of saints never prioritized untouchability within society, and this is also the ethos of the Nathpanth. The Nathpanth respects all castes, sects, religions, and regions, striving to bring everyone together. He added that the Nath sect, on one hand, focused on spiritual elevation through physical purification, while on the other, it would make efforts to unify every section of society. He noted that the enduring influence of Nathpanth was evident not only across India but also internationally. He recounted his meeting with a prominent saint from Tamil Nadu in Ayodhya, who provided manuscripts of Nathpanth from remote areas of Tamil Nadu. Many places of worship and traditions linked to Gorakhnath Ji still exist, remarked Yogi Adityanath on the occasion which also marked the memorial of his Guru Mahant Awaidyanath who had left for his heavenly abode on September 12, 2014. He observed that Nathpanth tradition was expanding in states like Maharashtra, Punjab, Sindh, Tripura, Assam, Bengal, and beyond Greater India, including Nepal, Bangladesh, Tibet, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
It's Unfortunate' to Call Gyanvapi as mosque: UP CM Adityanath
New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his disapproval on Saturday over the labeling of the Gyanvapi site as a mosque, stating it is Lord Vishwanath himself. His comments were made during a speech in Gorakhpur to mark Hindi Diwas. People unfortunately refer to Gyanvapi as a mosque, but it is actually 'Vishwanath' (Lord Shiva), Adityanath said. His statement follows a recent court decision rejecting a request from Hindu petitioners who had sought repairs to the basement of Vyas Ji within the Gyanvapi mosque complex. The Chief Minister also shared his views on social media, emphasizing: Today people call Gyanvapi a mosque, but in truth, Gyanvapi is Vishwanath. Adityanath further remarked, Had our society recognized and addressed this issue earlier, our country might have avoided colonization. Background of the Gyanvapi Dispute , '' ... pic.twitter.com/njo9Fk03Xe Yogi Adityanath (@myogiadityanath) September 14, 2024 The Gyanvapi mosque, located in Varanasi, is at the center of a heated dispute. Hindu activists argue that a temple existed at the site before it was allegedly demolished by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the 17th century. This claim is contested by the Muslim side. In February, a Varanasi court allowed Hindu worshippers to access the sealed basement of the Gyanvapi mosque, specifically the area known as 'Vyas Ka Tekhana.' Recently, the Hindu side has requested that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) conduct a survey of the mosque complex. The next court hearing on this matter is scheduled for September 18, where the petition for an ASI survey will be addressed. Artefacts from all over the world should also be collected; and where they no longer exist, replicas be made and displayed in a museum, he said. He was speaking at the inaugural session of an international conference which will discuss the contributions of the Nath sampradaya to social amity. The CM currently heads the sect. This is the second such conference which will draw in-person and virtual participation from scholars, academics and members from across the world. Adityanath said that the impact of the sect was visible throughout the country. This is a sect that has never practised any kind of untouchability. There are no distinctions of caste, religion, area or language. It has had just one goal- to unite everyone, he said. The two-day conference is being held at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University which houses a research wing dedicated to the sect. Touching on the multi-faceted influence of the sect, Adityanath said that in Punjab, it had instilled people with the courage to fight off foreign invaders through songs sung to the tune of sarangis (a stringed instrument). In Karnataka, the influence is visible in the Manjunath tradition of which Shiva is the presiding deity. He also touched upon the real nature of the Gyanvapi mosque- the nature of which is currently the subject of a court case. The name, he said, denoted Shiva- who was omniscient. It is not a mosque as is currently thought, he said. The Gorakhvani, a book which encompasses the message of Gorakhnath, the founding father of the peeth, Adityanath said had been quoted in various texts by various poets and writers. Among those he mentioned were Malik Muhammed Jayasi and Kalidas. The central tenet of our belief is cleanliness of the spirit and the body, he said. Adityanath called upon the attendees to not only hold academic discussions on the sect but also such that could be a part of everyday, practical living.

Ayushman Bharat Expands to Seniors 70 and Over: Benefits for Women and New Application Process
The Ayushman Bharat scheme, one of the world's largest health insurance programs, is set to include individuals aged 70 and older. This expansion aims to provide comprehensive health coverage for seniors, who will be able to register on the Ayushman Bharat portal starting next week. Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), seniors aged 70 and above can now access benefits regardless of their income level. This initiative is expected to cover an additional 2 crore families and 3 crore individuals, addressing the higher healthcare needs of the elderly population. Women will notably benefit from this extension, as over half of the 70+ age group are women, with 54% being widows. Government sources have indicated that a pilot program will be launched to resolve any issues with the portal, ensuring a smooth implementation. To date, the scheme has helped over 6 crore people, reducing their out-of-pocket expenses by approximately Rs 1 lakh crore. The decision to include seniors was influenced by their increased likelihood of requiring hospital care and the challenges they face in obtaining private health insurance, which is either unavailable or expensive for this age group. Private insurance options for elderly individuals are limited and costly. The government plans to introduce more packages specifically catering to geriatric care to address this gap. Introduced in 2018, Ayushman Bharat provides universal health coverage, particularly focusing on rural and vulnerable populations. It covers a range of health needs from primary to tertiary care levels. How to Apply: To benefit from the expanded Ayushman Bharat scheme, individuals must register on the official portal. The portal features a face authentication process and a dedicated link for seniors. After completing e-KYC, the card will be immediately operational. Those with existing Ayushman cards will need to re-apply and update their e-KYC information. Applicants with private insurance or those who are ESIC beneficiaries can also apply for AB PM-JAY. The government plans to launch an awareness campaign to inform the public and engage community-level workers to promote the scheme. Funding: The central government will continue to fund 60% of the scheme's costs. States have the option to expand the scheme or modify it to include other age groups, with additional funding provided for these beneficiaries. Senior citizens already covered by AB PM-JAY will receive an extra top-up cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per year, which will be exclusive to them and not shared with younger family members. Seniors already benefiting from other public health schemes, such as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), or Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), can choose to continue with their current scheme or switch to Ayushman Bharat. Takes heart to handle bulldozer: Adityanath slams Akhilesh Yadav
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday retorted sharply to Akhilesh Yadav's all bulldozers will head towards Gorakhpur after 2027 remark, saying not everyone has the heart to handle a bulldozer. Adityanath made this comment responding to the Samajwadi Party chief's Tuesday remark on bulldozer, the machine which has become emblematic of his style of governance. As soon as the Samajwadi government is formed in 2027, the bulldozers of the entire state will head towards Gorakhpur (Adityanath's home district), Yadav had said. Adityanath said only those with a ulldozer-like capability can operate it. He made these remarks while distributing appointment letters to 1,334 junior engineers, computer operators, and foremen in Lucknow. Today these people have come back in a new form to mislead the public. Not everyone's hands can fit on a bulldozer. It requires both 'dil and dimaag'. Only someone who has a bulldozer-like capability and determination can operate it. Those who grovel before the rioters will not be able to stand in front of a bulldozer, he said while addressing the event. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav slams CM Adityanath for 'DNA' jibe Adityanath also made a pun on Yadav's nickname saying, Now 'Tipu' is also trying to become a 'Sultan'. He said Yadav's ambition of returning to power in Uttar Pradesh is nothing more than a daydream, and accused the former chief minister and his uncle Shivpal Yadav of indulging in extortion during his rule. There used to be a competition between 'chacha-bhatija' in extorting money. Areas between them were divided. I can see that at this time some man-eating wolves are creating havoc in different districts. More or less the same situation was in the state before the year 2017, Adityanath said. Later in the day, Adityanath continued his attack on the Samajwadi Party during a programme in Prayagraj while attending a job fair at the IFFCO campus in Phulpur area. These people who are making big announcements are the same people who used to rub their noses in front of the mafias and rioters. Hey, courage is needed to run the bulldozer. Will those who rub their noses in front of the rioters and mafias run the bulldozers, Adityanath said. These are the same people who are fighting in the name of caste and are dreaming of becoming Tipu and Sultan again. This was the same Tipu who created a crisis of identity of UP by rubbing his nose in front of the mafia, he said. Referring to the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in Prayagraj, Adityanath alleged that by embracing mafias hey created an identity crisis for the people of the state and Prayagraj and these same mafias had killed Pal. At the time of Raju Pal's murder, they did not remember the PDA because they were worried about their chair. But we had said that if the mafia dares to raise its head, we will crush it to dust, he added. Adityanath also appealed to the public ot to make such a mistake which may again create an identity crisis for Uttar Pradesh. Prayagraj's Phulpur seat is among the 10 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh where by-elections are to be held. This seat has fallen vacant after BJP MLA Praveen Patel became an MP.

amid-operation-bhediya-wolves-strike-again-in-ups-bahraich-5-year-old-injured
The wolves that have been sowing terror in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich struck again on Monday, by attacking a five-year-old girl. Though the animal tried to snatch the child, her parent's timely intervention saved her life. This comes as 'Operation Bhediya', launched to capture a pack of wolves on the prowl that has so far killed seven people, continues. While the forest department has caught four of the animals from the Bahraich area, with the latest one set to be relocated to Gorakhpur Zoo, two others continue to roam the place. The latest incident reported on Monday night saw the animal injuring the five-year-old girl, who has been sent to the Community Health Centre in Mahsi for treatment. The girl's relative Wasi Ahmad told reporters: After dinner, she went to sleep, along with my mother. The wolf pounced on her while we were asleep. We woke up and screamed, and the animal ran away, Ahmad said, adding that the house had no gates or doors. This is the ninth death in wolf attacks since July 17. The deceased includes seven children, the recent being a two-year-old girl who was sleeping with her mother outside their home. Her mutilated body was found a kilometre from the village and the wolf had eaten both her hands. A 70-year-old woman was also injured when a wolf entered her house and attacked her early on Monday. The Forest Officials launched Operation Bhediya to catch the wolves and have been initiating an innovative effort to use colourful teddy dolls soaked in children's urine as bait to capture them. These dolls are being placed near the riverbanks, close to the wolves' resting places and dens. However, the animals changing their habitat is posing a problem for the officials. The wolves are constantly changing their locations. Typically, they hunt at night and return to their dens by morning. Our strategy is to mislead them and lure them away from residential areas towards traps or cages placed near their dens, Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh told PTI.
Three-year-old girl killed, two women injured in separate incidents of wolf attack in UP's Bahraich
LUCKNOW: The fear of man-eating wolves on the prowl in the villages of Bahraich district of central UP is far from over. The latest victim is a three-year-old girl Anjali who was killed in a fresh attack by wolves in Nauvan Garethi village of Mahsi Tehsil during the last 24 hours. Moreover, two women in their 50s -- Suman and Kamla were left injured by the beast. The attack in Hardi tehsil of Bahraich district was the second in the last 24 hours. Since mid-July, as many as nine persons including eight children, have been killed and 25 others injured in wolf attacks. Taking a strong note of the wolf attacks, UP CM Yogi Adityanath directed the forest minister to deploy more forest guards and trap teams in the affected areas. Consequently, forest department personnel are being shifted to Bahraich, Sitapur, and Lakhimpur divisions to set up camps in areas where movement of wolves has been reported. Toddler killed, elderly woman injured in separate incidents of wolf attack in Bahraich Notably, a wolf took away a two-and-half-year-old girl Anjali who was sleeping beside her mother on Monday wee hours. Despite the desperate cries for help of the victim's mother, Meenu, the wolf disappeared into the darkness within moments. The childs mutilated body without both hands was discovered after two hours at a distance of one kilometre from the house. The sight of her daughters lifeless body caused the mother to collapse in shock. Meenu told media persons that the incident happened at 03.35 am on Monday. I found out about the incident when my six-month-old younger daughter got up in the middle of the night and I found my elder daughter missing. Both the hands of my child were bitten by the wolf. We work as labourers all day and raise the children. We ran after the wolf but it escaped. We are poor so we are not able to get doors installed in the house, said the distraught wailing mother. Just three hours later, the wild animal struck again just two Km away in Kotia village. Here a wolf attacked another woman Kamla Devi (70) sleeping on her veranda. Her screams brought her family running, but by then, the wolf had already inflicted severe injuries. The woman remains in critical condition. Moreover, within a 30-minute span, another woman Suman Devi (65) was attacked and injured by the wolf in the same village. Soon after the attacks, a team of police and forest reached the site and took the injured women to the hospital, said Bahraich DFO Ajeet Pratap Singh. Later, senior officers, including Additional DG Gorakhpur Kalluri SP Kumar, DM Bahraich Monika Rani, and SP Bahraich Vrinda Shukla and other officials of the district administration, rushed to the spot. Fourth wolf captured after pack killed nine people in 45 days in UP's Bahraich Bahraich DM, Monika Rani said that the authorities were having trouble catching the wolves on the prowl as they were consistently changing their habitat. The biggest problem in this drive is that every time a new village is being selected. The Wolf changes his activity every 5-6 days. The Forest Department is trying its best, she said. District Magistrate Monika Rani requested the people to stay indoors and to be alert. We have trapped four wolves; two are left. Our team is continuously patrolling; we are trying our best to catch them as soon as possible. I request people to sleep indoors. A 2.5-year-old child has been attacked by a wolf. I request the people here to be alert, Bahraich DM said. Chief Forest Conservator (central zone) Renu Singh took stock of the situation. Drones are being flown continuously, she said. To enhance surveillance, the forest department has deployed six cameras and drones, while 150 personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) patrol the area. In addition, 32 teams from the revenue department and 25 teams from the forest department are actively working on the ground. Authorities are using loudspeakers on vehicles to advise residents to stay indoors, keep their children inside, and lock their doors at night. Residents are gripped by fear, avoiding stepping outside their houses.
