LUCKNOW: Relations between Nepal's royals and the Gorakhnath Peeth, currently presided by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, run strong as the revered Peeth remains the presiding deity of the Shah dynasty of Nepal. UP CM Yogi Adityanath had visited Janakpur in Nepal towards the end of 2023 to participate in an annual festival held there to mark the wedding of Ram-Janaki (Sita). Nepal premier KP Sharma Oli had also taken part in it. Though the neighbouring countries have had friendly ties, the relationship has gone through ups and down in recent years, especially after the fall of Nepal's monarchy in 2006 and the formation of government by Maoists in 2008. The Shah was forced to give up the rule following massive street protests in 2006. Two years later, Nepals parliament voted to abolish the monarchy, transforming the country into a secular republic. The latest controversy erupted on Sunday when the supporters of erstwhile Nepal king Gyanendra Shah flashed the poster carrying the picture of UP CM Yogi Adityanath at a rally outside Kathmandu airport while welcoming King Gaynendra. Vacate the royal palace for the king. Come back king, save the country. Long live our beloved king. We want monarchy, the protestors sloganeered. As per the political experts, the new row could lead to a deterioration of ties as the incumbent Oli government of Nepal smells Indias role in pro-Monarchy uprising. However, many of the 13 governments that have ruled the Himalayan state since the fall of monarchy there have been accused of widespread corruption and lawlessness. This plight of Nepal is taking its people back in support of the reinstatement of monarchy. The man, Pradeep Bikram Rana, who held the posters of Adityanath at Kathmandu rally on Sunday , claimed that he landed himself in trouble with the Nepal police chasing him. He felt threatened making his way to Gorakhpur and told media persons that he feared persecution in his country. According to Rana, cops started looking for his home after the rally. A chase began, he fled Kathmandu and crossed the border from the Raxaul side in Bihar and finally reached Gorakhpur by a passenger train. He told the media that he idolised the UP CM and saw him as a symbol of Hindu pride, saying this had prompted him to wave the Indian leaders posters in Kathmandu. However, not everyone sees it that way. Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli condemned the use of Adityanaths photos, saying that the country should not be in a position where foreign images were needed to lead protests. Gyanendras supporters, on the other, refuted the claims of Indias hand behind the rally saying that the display of the UP CMs photo was a deliberate attempt to malign the pro-monarchist movement by Oli government. They even accused the Oli government of orchestrating the move through infiltration. Pro-monarchist Rastriya Prajatantra Party spokesperson Gyanendra Shahi even claimed in a social media post: The photograph of Yogi Adityanath was displayed in the rally at the instruction of Bishnu Rimal, chief advisor of Prime Minister KP Oli, at the advice of Oli. Even some sections of pro-monarchist leaders were quoted as saying on social media that: We are not as weak as needing to use a foreigners photo in our procession. In fact, the sources in Gorakhnath confirm that with Gorakshnath being the presiding deity of the Shah dynasty, former King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah, used to look up to Mahant Avaidyanath, who was Adityanaths mentor. In 1992, King Birendra himself drove down from Kathmandu to the Gorakhpur Mutt. Even today, the first offering of the khichadi offered to the revered shrine in Gorakhpur on Makarsankranti is from the Shah dynasty of Nepal. It is also believed that King Birendra decided on Nepal being a Hindu state on the advice of Avaidyanath in 1990 when Nepals constitution was being amended. The Gorakshnath Mutt was actively involved in relief operations during the devastation caused in the Himalayan state in 2015 earthquake. Yogi Adityanath is reported to have overseen the reconstruction work along the border areas. Additionally, Adityanath has been critical of the Nepal governments decision to declare the nation a secular state.

Man under police radar for waving poster of Yogi Adityanath in Nepal lands in Gorakhpur
LUCKNOW: A Nepalese man landed in trouble after waving a poster carrying UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's picture at a rally to welcome former Nepal king Gyanendra in Kathmandu on Sunday. Claiming to be pursued by the Nepal police, the man landed in Gorakhpur on Tuesday. Talking to media persons in Gorakhpur, the man, who identified himself as Pradeep Vikram Rana, denied having raised the poster at anyone's behest. He even denied having any acquaintance with the UP CM. Claiming to be a strong votary of Nepal being reinstated as a Hindu rashtra, Rana said that sentiment prompted him to raise Yogi's poster at the rally to welcome the former Nepal king. According to reports, thousands had gathered to welcome former King Gyanendra at Kathmandu airport following his return to the capital after three months on March 9. Among those who had assembled in the pro-monarchy rally outside the airport included many who had raised Yogi Adityanath's posters. The incident sparked controversy as the Nepal government condemned the use of posters of a foreign country's leader. Rana claimed that after the incident, the police sought to detain him. Following a police chase, he fled Kathmandu and crossed the Indo-Nepal border from the Raxaul side in Bihar and finally reached Gorakhpur by a passenger train. Rana said no one incited him nor sponsored him as he was not short of money. He added that he would not return to Nepal until this government is ousted.

Railway asks RITES to design proposed permanent holding areas at railway stations
NEW DELHI: Following the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station which killed at least 18 people including four children, the Ministry of Railways has instructed Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) to design 'permanent holding areas' (PHAs) at 60 stations across the country for crowd management. These stations have been selected based on the sudden increased crowd surges during special occasions like Holi, Diwali, Chhatha and other festivals. So far, permanent holding areas (PHAs) have been developed at only 9 stations in and around Prayagraj in UP. These holding areas are located outside the platforms to help control the flow of passengers and prevent overcrowding. In view of emerging crowds of passengers for Mahakumbh ahead of Mahashivratri, falling this year on February 26, passengers holding areas on temporary basis have also been created at Patna junction, Danapur, Ara, Buxar, Sasaram Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Hajipur, Samastipur and other railway stations following the massive origination of passengers towards Mahakumbh, a senior official working with the Ministry of Railway told this newspaper. The temporary passenger holding areas have also been created at Deendayal Upadhyay Railway station, formerly known as Mughalsarai, under the east Central Railway. Upon being asked about the progress on the plan for the construction of the proposed holding areas, the railway official said, The RITES has been instructed to start working on the design of permanent holding areas keeping every factors in mind. After the design is readied by the RITES, the Ministry of Railway after wider discussion approves it and move ahead in mission mode for 60 railway stations. Many stations in Bihar, UP and other states witness sudden surges in crowds of passengers during festivals like Saharsa. Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Udna, New Delhi and other stations also witness sharp surges in number of passengers during festivals. After final design of PHAs is readied and approved, all amenities like ticketing zones, wi-fi, eateries stalls, and others would be made available in each of PHAs. Not only this, by doing some changes in the Amrit stations, the permanent holding area would also be created to control crowds during peak time, said an official. As it is roughly being estimated, the Ministry will have to spend between Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore for the development of these permanent holding areas as part of a larger effort to improve crowd management at major stations. Railway Ministry orders platform X to remove videos of New Delhi railway station stampede For the time being, in view to keep emerging crowds for Mahakumbh, massive holding areas at Ghaziabad, Anand Vihar, New Delhi, Ayodhya Dham, Vanaras ,Ballia, Siwan, Deoria, Chhapra, Rajendranagar in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Barauni, Jaynagar, Madhubani, Raxaul, and Gaya have been created by the railway. Passengers are allowed to enter the platforms based on the scheduled departure times of their trains. This initiative aims to improve crowd management and enhance passenger safety, especially during peak hours and festive seasons, the official said. Meanwhile, UP CM Yogi Aditaynath appreciated the railway for arrangements to the Mahakumbh-bound passengers. He said that more than 13,500 trains including more than 3500 special trains are in service for the Mahakumbh. The 48 digital ticketing, multilingual announcements and conveniences being provided to passengers reflect the railway's commitment, he said.

Railway stations across UP on high alert amid Mahakumbh rush
In the wake of the stampede at Delhi Railway Station that claimed 18 lives on Saturday, railway stations across Uttar Pradesh have been put on high alert following the massive convergence of devotees reaching Prayagraj for a holy dip at Sangam during the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela. Over 52 crore people have bathed on the ghats along Sangam in Prayagraj. However, the massive crowds of devotees have resulted in severe congestion on roads and railway stations, leading to significant travel disruptions. Over the weekend, Prayagraj and its neighbouring districts, including Ayodhya, Gonda, Varanasi, Fatehpur, Gorakhpur, and even the state capital Lucknow, experienced huge crowds at railway stations. Besides the above-mentioned stations, almost all other stations, including Chitrakoot, Kannauj, and Jhansi, have been put on alert after the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. At Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow, cops have been carrying out inspections. They have prepared a list of trains going to Prayagraj and are brainstorming on arrangements to manage the crowd. They are also checking CCTV footage. The railways are witnessing a massive surge in footfall in view of the ongoing Mela. The trains reaching Prayagraj are overcrowded at stations, with passengers awaiting Prayagraj-bound or even adjoining district trains to reach the Mahakumbh, despite the three significant 'Amrit Snans' (holy dips) on the auspicious days of Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Basant Panchami being over. ADG Railways, Prakash D, has issued directives to the authorities concerned to ensure the deployment of GRP personnel at all railway stations across the state. Moreover, the GRP has also been directed to manage the crowd and maintain order on the platforms while working in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and railway authorities. In order to avoid any chaos due to overcrowding at railway stations, GRP personnel have been deployed on footover bridges. Special caution is being taken on the platforms through which the Prayagraj-bound special Mela trains are passing. Meanwhile, the police authorities of all the districts through which trains for Prayagraj are passing have deployed district police personnel around railway stations for crowd management.
Rajnath, Gadkari commend CM Yogi for UP's growth
LUCKNOW: Referring to a recent international survey, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh claimed that UP capital Lucknow was included among the fastest-growing cities in the world, with rapidly increasing land prices and with ongoing efforts to turn it into a global investment hub with world-class infrastructure. The Defence Minister was joined by Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari in lauding the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath saying UP was witnessing unprecedented development under his leadership. While Rajnath claimed that the BrahMos missile manufacturing project, part of the ambitious Defence Corridor, would be inaugurated in May-June this year, marking a significant milestone in UPs industrial growth, Gadkari said that UP was no longer a BIMARU state but was one of the leading contributors to India's economy. He also said that CM Yogi had successfully worked towards establishing Ram Rajya in Uttar Pradesh. Both the Union ministers were in Lucknow on Friday inaugurating and laying the foundation of various development projects worth Rs 1,028 crore. While giving an elaborate account of the infrastructure development of Lucknow in recent years, Rajnath Singh said that the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway was being constructed rapidly and that it would reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 40 minutes from nearly two hours. The Raksha Mantri added that the state was witnessing an unprecedented surge in religious tourism following the construction of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. He also stated that Lucknow was also witnessing a jump in investment in sectors including real estate, the hospitality, and healthcare. Meanwhile, praising the development in Uttar Pradesh, Gadkari said: Under PM Narendra Modis leadership, India aims to become a global leader and a USD 5 trillion economy, with Uttar Pradesh playing a crucial role in achieving this target. He mentioned that strong infrastructure in roads, water, energy, transport, and communication will boost industries, attract investment, and create new employment opportunities. LUCKNOW: The three-member judicial commission, set up by UP CM Yogi Adityanath to probe the Mahakumbh stampede that claimed at least 30 lives and left 60 injured, assumed office on Thursday. The UP CM also introduced stricter safety measures in addition to deputing senior officials, previously posted in Prayagraj, to improve Mela management ahead of the upcoming Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami on February 3. The stricter security and management measures put in place by the state government included declaring the Mela premises a no-vehicle zone and banning the VVIP pass provision. Notably, Mahakumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna attributed the stampede to pilgrims pushing against barricades while trying to reach the Sangam nose (confluence). Following the incident, UP CM Yogi Adityanath held a high-level late-night meeting via video conferencing with senior officials from various districts. The three-member judicial commission, which took office on Thursday, has been given one month to complete the probe and ascertain the reasons for the Mahakumbh stampede. However, according to panel head Justice Harsh Kumar, the commission will try to expedite the investigation. Justice Harsh Kumar, the retired judge, also said that commission members would visit Prayagraj soon. Justice Kumar, along with other panel members, former Director General of Police (DGP) VK Gupta and retired IAS officer DK Singh, reached the office assigned to them and began their work. We have taken charge within hours of the announcement as the probe has to be taken up on priority, Justice Kumar said while interacting with media persons. At the late-night meeting on Wednesday, the UP CM deployed former Divisional Commissioner Ashish Goyal, former ADA Vice Chairman Bhanu Goswami, and five Special Secretaries for better management of the Mela to avert any untoward incident, especially during the third Amrit Snan of Basant Panchami when another huge rush of devotees is expected. Moreover, Superintendent of Police-level officers will also be deployed for enhanced management and security, said the CM. Additionally, extra buses from the Transport Corporation should be deployed to accommodate the rush, said the CM. The CM stated that holding areas had been established at border points to manage crowd pressure in the fair area. Devotees should be allowed to proceed based on the prevailing situation. Arrangements for food and drinking water must be ensured at all holding areas so that no devotee faces any inconvenience. Additionally, an uninterrupted electricity supply must be maintained at these locations. He added that authorities in districts bordering Prayagraj must strictly enforce the directives issued from Prayagraj. Patrolling should be increased, and traffic should flow smoothly on all major routes, including Ayodhya-Prayagraj, Kanpur-Prayagraj, Fatehpur-Prayagraj, Lucknow-Pratapgarh-Prayagraj, and Varanasi-Prayagraj. SC asks hospitals to regularise doctors' absence during RG Kar protests
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed hospitals, including AIIMS New Delhi, to regularise the unauthorised absence of doctors who were part of protests against the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata.A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar took note of the submissions of a doctors' body that some hospitals had regularised the absence of the doctors following its August 22, 2024 order but a few others, including AIIMS Delhi, decided to treat the period as leave of absence. We deem it appropriate to clarify that if protesting workers had joined work post the Supreme Court order then their absence shall be regularised and not be treated as absence from duty. This is issued in peculiar facts and circumstances of the cases and is not laying down any precedent, the CJI said. The lawyer appearing for the body said the decision to treat the protest period as leave may create trouble for some of the medical PG students. Solicitor general Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, said as the case was non-adversarial, the hospitals would abide by the top court's directions. Mehta said AIIMS, Delhi, decided to treat the period as leave of absence availed by the doctors. By an earlier order, it was stated that no coercive step would be taken against the protesting doctors for protests till the date of the order. Pursuant to this some of the AIIMS such as Kalyani and Gorakhpur and the PGI Chandigarh have regularised the absence. However some other institutes have treated the said period as if doctors were on leave, said the bench. On August 22, last year, the bench made an impassioned appeal to the protesting doctors across the country, asking them to resume work. Observing justice and medicine couldn't be stopped, it directed no coercive action would be taken against doctors once they resumed work. The heinous crime triggered nationwide outrage and prolonged protests in West Bengal. The bench was hearing the suo-motu case over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in the Kolkata hospital. On January 20, a Kolkata trial court awarded convict Sanjay Roy life term imprisonment till death in the case. The body of the post-graduate trainee doctor was found in the hospital's seminar room on August 9, last year following which the Kolkata police arrested civic volunteer Roy the next day in connection with the crime.

UP CM Inaugurates Water Purification Projects of drains falling into RaptiRiver
Gorakhpur:Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated innovative water purification projects targeting drains that flow into the Rapti River on Friday, January 3, 2025. These initiatives emphasize sustainable solutions to combat river pollution and preserve water resources. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister praised the Municipal Corporation for its dedicated efforts to restore the Rapti River's health. He emphasized the importance of adopting phytoremediation, an eco-friendly technique using plants to remove pollutants from the environment. Phytoremediation: A Cost-Effective Solution Highlighting the benefits of phytoremediation, the Chief Minister revealed that this method successfully reduced pollution levels in the Rapti River at a fraction of the cost. Initially, a sewage treatment plant costing Rs.110 crore was planned, which included hefty expenses for electricity and maintenance. Instead, we implemented phytoremediation for just Rs.70 lakh, he said. Phytoremediation not only removes contaminants but also allows for the potential recovery of absorbed metals for recycling. The CM suggested replicating this approach across all drains to ensure they do not pollute rivers when discharged. Past Challenges and Penalties Before 2017, the municipal authorities faced repeated penalties from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for failing to manage river pollution. In 2023, the NGT held the state government accountable for discharging 55 MLD (mega liters per day) of untreated sewage into Gorakhpur's rivers. Additionally, approximately 3.8 lakh metric tonnes of solid waste were being dumped at two sites near the river, leading to a compensation order of Rs.120 crore. Success in Reducing Pollution Levels The implementation of phytoremediation has drastically reduced the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) of the Rapti River from a hazardous 350 to a much safer 15-18. The lower BOD levels have transformed the river, making it suitable for irrigation, a feat previously unattainable due to high pollution levels. Aligning with National Initiatives Chief Minister Adityanath also acknowledged the success of central government programs like 'Namami Gange' and 'Har Ghar Jal,' led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He credited these initiatives for prioritizing clean water access and reviving the cultural and environmental significance of rivers across India. Yogi Adityanath called for widespread adoption of phytoremediation, ensuring a sustainable future for rivers and communities dependent on them.

The revolutionaries Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqullah Khan and Thakur Roshan Singh were hanged by the Britishers on 19 th December, 1927. 99 years of the famous Kakori conspiracy and 97 years of the martyrdom of the freedom fighters. Bismil hanged at the Gorakhpur jail, Khan at the Faizabad jail and Roshan Singh at the Naini jail of Allahabad. The hot headed young men were well prepared with their plans and their deaths toowith a grin that sparked patriotism. Today we recall this date, the Kakori incident and the British play involved. The Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) or the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association The HRA was a radical left wing organization that operated from underground. It was founded by Sachindranath Sanyal. The manifesto was titled as The Revolutionary. After the sudden suspension of the Non- cooperation movement by Mahatma Gandhi in 1919, the youth leaders felt it was early. Moreover, the ideologies differed at a certain level. Leaders like Bismil were revolutionary in their approach and believed in overthrowing the British Raj through violence. They opposed Gandhi in the 37th session of the INC held in Bihar (1922). The INC was then divided into two groups one of the liberals and the other of rebels. The latter was the HRA, that adopted violent revolutionary means against the Britishers. They wanted to attain freedom through armed revolutions. HRA became The Hindustan Socialist Republican Association under the influence of Bhagat Singh. The Kakori train robbery case: Call it the Kakori conspiracy, Kakori incident, Kakori loot or the Kakori train robbery case. It was on Aug 9, 1925 when members of the Hindustan Republican Association (later known as the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association) executed a train robbery at the Kakori train station near Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The mastermind behind is said to be Ram Prasad Bismil, the others who were majorly involved were Asfaqullah Khan, Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajendra Lahiri and Roshan Singh. Apart from the key attackers, there were Sachindra Bakshi, Manmathnath Gupta, Mukundi Lal, Keshab Chakravorty, Banwari Lal and Murali Lal. There was a need of arms and ammunition to carry out the organizations activities, thus in order to arrange for the funds members of the HRA decided to loot the government treasury. As the Sahranpur Lucknow train approached Kakori station, the revolutionaries stormed inside it. It was believed that the Kakori mail was transporting the British treasury. Overthrowing the guards, they could loot Rs. 8000. No passenger was robbed or caused any harm (except for one). What followed after: The incident spurred horror around. However, it even encouraged more such revolutionaries to carry on such acts. The British Raj called for a manhunt against those involved in the tragic robbery. Nearly 40 people were arrested, all the key strategists except for Chandrashekhar Azad. They were arrested under multiple charges, including theft and attempted murder. The trial started in May 1926. In its final verdict, the court sentenced Bismil, Ashfaqullah Khan, Roshan Singh and Lahiri to death. In jail, they went on a hunger strike demanding to be treated alike political prisoners. While outside, there was public dissatisfaction against the verdict. 78 members of the Central Legislative Assembly filed a petition to the Viceroy of India for the death sentence to be turned to life term. The Privy council and the British monarch were also sent the final appeal in this regard. But of no use. The three youth were hanged on the cold early morning of 19 th Dec 1927. Rajendra Lahiri was hanged two days earlier at the Gonda jail on 17 th Dec 1927. Other facts: It is also believed that the money looted was not to purchase arms and ammunition, rather for establishing printing press. They wanted to publish socialist literature for the youth. HRA was working towards uniting the country. Asfaqullah Khan even addressed the countrymen to stay united when all the Britishers were trying to do was divide them on communal lines. 40 people were arrested when only 10 people were involved in the incident. Know the leaders Ram Prasad Bismil The poet, writer and great revolutionary of India was born on 11 th June 1897. He belonged to Shahjahanpur district of then North western province of India. A Tomar Rajput, Bismil was associated with Arya Samaj at an early age. He was one of the initial members of the HRA. Bismil composed his poems in Hindi and Urdu, his pen names were Ram, Agyat and Bismil. He published a pamphlet called Deshvasiyon ke naam sandesh and a poem Mainpuri ki Pratigya. He carried out various underground activities, a poem titled Mann ki Lahar and translated two Bengali works. He drafted the yellow paper constitution of the HRA in 1923. Another work Kranti Geetanjali was published after his death in 1929. Not to forget the immortal poem- Sarfaroshi ki tamanna. In his honor, The Amar Shaheed Bismil Smarak has been established. The Pt. Ram Prasad Bismil Railway station 11 kms away from Shahjahanpur. A memorial that honors the Kakori conspirists at Kakori which was inaugurated by then PM Indira Gandhi. Asfaqullah Khan The revolutionary leader was born on 22 nd October 1900 in a Muslim Pathan family of Khyber tribe in Shahjahanpur. Khan met Ram Prasad Bismil and started working with him closely. He was an Urdu writer, writing in the name of Hasrat. He was inspired by the Lenin and Bolshevik revolutions in Russia. He firmly believed in socialist ideology. The freedom fighter was against religious communalism. Along with the others, he also got involved in the Kakori conspiracy. Out of his many writings in the jail, what catches attention is Brave dies once, cowards daily. you must read the proceedings of my case, then you will come to know to what extent I loved my motherland as a true Muslim. Aye mere paak khuda, Hindustan ki sarzameen par Azadi ka suraj ab jald tulu farma. (Oh Almighty let the Sun of Independence shine over Hindustan soon. Thakur Roshan Singh The revolutionary was born in Nabadi village of Shahjahanpur district on 22 nd January 1892. During the Non cooperation movement, he was sentenced for the Bareilly shooting case in 1921-22. After coming back from jail, he went on to join the HRA. It is said that he didnt participate in the Kakori robbery case, but was still arrested. He faced the trial in the murder that happened during the robbery. He was hanged alongside the other martyrs on 19 th January 1927. The three revolutionaries have been forgotten over time. They martyred for the nation when they were mere youths. And even before, when a young boy has dreams for himself, they had the dreams of freeing the nation from the shackles of the British. Now we can say that their means were unlawful, but how will you justify for the sacrifice they made. Leaving back bereaved families and loved ones. But a Bismil and an Ashfaqullah Khan taught us How to work for the betterment of the nation by standing united, rising above communal differences.

Teenager pushes mother to death, leaves her unattended for five days
LUCKNOW: A 17-year-old boy was held by Gorakhpur police on Wednesday for pushing his mother during a heated exchange leading her to fall and get a fatal head injury. During the interrogation, the teenager not only admitted to his crime but also explained the series of events which resulted in the death of his mother Aarti. The boy revealed that when his mother turned unconscious after getting the head injury, he left for school leaving her behind in the same condition. Even on his return, he left her unattended and went to stay with his friend. This ordeal continued for the next five days before his father Ram Milan, an assistant scientist in the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) unit of Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu, became suspicious of the explanation given by the boy. Ram Milan asked his sister-in-law Gyanti Devi, to check and she found the house locked and his son unreachable on the phone. Later, Ram Milan decided to visit his family in Gorakhpur himself. The revelation came to light during a two-hour interrogation by Additional SP (North) Jitendra Kumar Srivastava of the teenager who confessed that he had pushed his mother during an argument. The sequence of events began when Ram Milan from BARC called his wife, Aarti, on the evening of December 3. After he couldnt reach her as her mobile remained switched off for two days, on December 7, he sent his sister-in-law, to their house, which was locked from the outside. Ram Milan, on reaching Gorakhpur, found Aartis body in the house. Their son, who was found sitting on a bench in a nearby Shiva temple, initially tried to misguide both police and his father by telling them that Aarti died after a fall. He claimed panic led him to lock the house from the outside and wander for four days. However, the autopsy report contradicted the minors account, said the cops. Further investigation raised suspicions. Bloodstains were found at two different spots, indicating the body was dragged, and CCTV footage confirmed no outsiders entered the house. While searching the boys room, large amounts of cash were recovered in denominations of Rs 500, Rs 200, and Rs 100, added police. During interrogation on Wednesday, the boy confessed how he pushed his mother who died of the fall. Meanwhile, the altercation between the boy and his mother took off on December 3 morning when Aarti asked the boy, a student of class XI, to go to school and he refused. Instead, he asked for some money and a dispute ensued. Finally, the mother threw cash at him in frustration and in a fit of rage, the boy pushed her leading her to fall and getting a fatal head injury, SP Srivastava told the media persons. As per the police authorities, the boy and his mother were at loggerheads since December 1, when Aarti visited the school of her son and discovered that he rarely attended school but was involved in other activities. His mother scolded him badly in front of his classmates and teachers. SSP Gorakhpur, Gaurav Grover, said that the boy was sent to a shelter home.
Lok Sabha Approves Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024 to Boost Railway Administration
The Lok Sabha on Wednesday, December 11, passed the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, amid disruptions during the Winter Session of Parliament. Introduced on August 9 by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Bill aims to provide statutory powers to the Railway Board, enhancing its functioning and independence. Key Amendments and Objectives The Bill empowers the Central Government to determine the composition of the Railway Board, specifying the number of members, their qualifications, experience, and terms of service. By granting this authority, the amendment seeks to improve the administrative capabilities of the Railway Board, streamlining its operations and decision-making processes. In addition, the amendment help make feasible for the approval, expansion, and re-routing of super-fast trains through Thawe Junction in Bihar. This includes changes to the route of the Arunachal Express (Train No. 22411/22412), which will now pass through Siwan, Thawe, Kaptanganj, and Gorakhpur. The adjustment addresses long-standing demands for improved connectivity between Thawe Junction and major cities like Delhi, benefiting local residents, including migrant workers and pilgrims. Historical Context and Legal Simplification Explaining the significance of the amendments, Vaishnaw noted that provisions from the Indian Railway Board Act, 1905, are being integrated into the Railways Act, 1989. This unification aims to simplify the legal framework governing railways by eliminating the need to refer to two separate laws. The minister highlighted the historical evolution of network of the railway. Initially, part of the Public Works Department before independence, the Indian Railways Act, 1890, was introduced to manage railway operations. The Railway Board Act of 1905 was later enacted when the railway organisation was separated from the Public Works Department. Although the Railways Act, 1989, replaced the earlier law, the Railway Board continued to function without statutory backing. Addressing Regional Needs The amendment holds particular significance for Bihars Thawe Junction, which has long faced a lack of direct train connections to major cities. By expediting approvals for superfast train operations and rerouting, the government aims to enhance connectivity, fostering regional development and fulfilling local demands. Broader Impact With its focus on strengthening the Railway Board and addressing regional connectivity challenges, the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, marks a significant step in modernising Indias railway administration. The amendments are expected to pave the way for more efficient governance and improved services across the country.

BJP gears up for campaigning efforts in Ayodhya's Milkipur ahead of by-poll
LUCKNOW: After sweeping seven out of nine seats in the recently held by-poll, BJP has intensified its efforts to wrest the high-stake Milkipur seat in Ayodhya where the bypoll is scheduled soon. The party has deputed two more key organisational functionaries UP minister JPS Rathore and MLC Dharmendra Singh who led the party win in Kundarki (Moradabad) and Katehari (Ambedkarnagar) assembly bypolls, respectively where the lotus bloomed after three decades. Both Rathore and Dharmendra Singh are mandated to work alongside state ministers Surya Pratap Shahi, Mayankeshwar Singh, Girish Jatav, and Satish Sharma. Rathore, a known strategist in the party, is an MLC and UP cooperative minister in Yogi cabinet. He joined the state government after the BJP returned to office in 2022. He was tasked with ramping up BJP poll preparation in the Kundarki seat which has over 50 per cent of Muslim voters. Kundarki also faced a bypoll following the election of SP MLA Zia-Ur-Rehman Barq to Lok Sabha from Sambhal. BJPs victory in Kundarki consolidated Rathores position in the party. On the other, Dharmendra Singh being entrusted with Milkipur bypoll is equally significant. Singh has been a key organisational leader in the Gorakhpur region, the turf of Yogi Adityanath. Just over a year ago, Singh was anointed partys state vice-president while being nominated for the legislative council. Singh, an OBC, was deployed in Katehari, which has a sizable population of OBC and Dalits. As per the political experts, the BJP wants to capitalise on its victory in the bypolls. Milkipur, the reserved seat had fallen vacant following the election of SP nine-time MLA Awadhesh Prasad who had emerged as the master killer by defeating BJPs sitting MP Lallu Singh in Faizabad (Ayodhya) seat in recent Lok Sabha elections. However, the EC had postponed the bypoll since an election petition concerning Milkipur in Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court. The HC dismissed the pending petition last week, thereby clearing the decks for bypoll in Milkipur. Milkipur may well turn out to be another battle of prestige between the BJP and the SP since the BSP has opted out and Congress has decided to back SP. A per the party sources, ground-level preparation have already intensified in Ayodhya while revamping its organisational structure at the booth and mandal level. The Milkipur assembly seat has 414 booths and five divisions, which are scheduled to have a new set of functionaries. Analysts said that the BJP is expected to play on its tried and tested Hindutva pitch with a focus on Yogis Batenge toh katenge call to counter SPs caste narrative of Pichhda, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak (PDA).
Parents struggle as differently-abled children denied admission in schools
New Delhi: Ahead of International Disability Day on December 3, many parents complained that their children are not receiving proper education as differently-abled students are being denied admission to educational institutes. The hopes of Madhuri Patle, who was crowned Mrs India Universe in 2023, for her son's education have been dashed twice as she received rejection letters from a local school. Her three-year-old child suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). My kid was attending normal pre-schooling and there was no issue with him there. I have been trying to get my child admitted to a school so that he could get the benefit of a proper learning atmosphere, Patle said. She added that generally, children with epilepsy or DMD do attend regular schools. What kind of facilities are they lacking? she asked, raising a concern about the barriers that differently-abled children face in accessing quality education. DMD is a genetic disorder that leads to progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to a deficiency in a protein called dystrophin, which is essential for maintaining muscle cell integrity. Gitika Anand and her family have faced a similar struggle. After moving to Jaipur for a job, they soon learned that their child had DMD, prompting them to look for schools equipped to handle special needs. After trying for months to get her child into a good school, the applications were rejected. We had to leave our jobs and move back to Delhi. We wanted our child to be educated in an environment that understands his needs, but we found no options, she said. Vinai, a father of a 15-year-old boy, shared the heartbreak of seeing his son miss out on education. For the last two years, his son has been at home, deprived of schooling and the home-schooling he once had. My child was home-schooled until Class 8, but I wanted him to experience a proper school environment for higher classes. Unfortunately, his admission was denied by several schools, citing a lack of facilities to assist him, Vinai explained. It is disheartening to see him sitting idle, unable to learn or interact with peers, he said. Meanwhile, a school for autistic students at Vasant Kunj shared the challenges it faces in accommodating children suffering from DMD. The school said a child suffering from DMD has extreme fragility, a tendency to fall and hyperactivity, which require one-on-one care, including academic and clinical sessions, activities of daily living (ADL) training and assistance during mealtimes. Our facility is not developed to serve the supportive care needs of a child with DMD, the school noted. It further emphasised that not only their institution but any mainstream or special needs school would require in-class caregiving support for such conditions. Without this, it claimed that the child would be at greater risk. Rupa Rani from Gorakhpur also finds herself in a similar situation. Her 12-year-old son has been sitting at home for a year, longing for the school experience he has been denied. My son asks me every day when will he go to school and I have no answers for him, she said. Last year, a school promised that it would enrol him but kept delaying the admission. They kept saying he needed extra care, which they could not provide, but offered online classes as an alternative. We were grateful for any option, but after a few months, they decided not to continue with the online classes either, she added.
