Police conducted a raid at the fake police station in Sector 70 on Sunday (August 10). The case comes just weeks after the Ghaziabad Police held a 47-year-old man for allegedly running a fake embassy from a rented house in Kavi Nagar area. Read on for more details.
After Ghaziabad bogus embassy, six held in Noida for running fake International Police office
Gautam Budh Nagar police have arrested six men for allegedly running a bogus office in the name of the International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau to mislead the public, impersonate government officials, and extort money using forged documents, fake IDs, and police-style insignia. According to the police, acting on a tip-off, they raided premises at BS-136, Sector 70, Noida, around midnight on Sunday, where the accused had set up an office designed to resemble that of an official investigative agency. Investigators said that the group allegedly used police-like colours and logos, displayed forged certificates purportedly from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Ayush, and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and falsely claimed affiliations with Interpol, the International Human Rights Commission, and Eurasia Pol. They even claimed to have an office in the UK. Police said the gang posed as public servants, solicited donations through their website www.intlpcrib.in and displayed various national and international certificates online to create an appearance of legitimacy. They also kept multiple press ID cards, international human rights IDs, and official-looking stamps to influence and deceive people. -3:- INTERNATIONAL POLICE & CRIME INVESTIGATION BUREAU 06 @DCPCentralNoida PART-2 https://t.co/SQMOKz0d9a pic.twitter.com/Yq8yVWI0P0 POLICE COMMISSIONERATE GAUTAM BUDDH NAGAR (@noidapolice) August 10, 2025 We successfully disrupted a well-orchestrated fraud operation, DCP Central Noida Shakti Mohan Awasthi said. The accused had established a hoax office under the guise of the International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau, using police-like insignia and fabricated ministry documents to deceive the public and extort money. During the raid, we arrested six suspects and seized extensive evidence, including forged IDs, ministry certificates, cheque books, ATM cards, visiting cards, signboards, mobile phones, and cash. Police said the gang had set up the office only about 10 days earlier, renting the premises on June 4, and were attempting to function as a parallel law enforcement body. Since the operation was still in its early stages, officials believe only a handful of individuals had been targeted so far, but efforts are underway to identify more victims. The accused were identified as Bibhash, Araghya, Babu, Chandra Mandal, Pintu, Samapda, and Ashish all originally from West Bengal and living in Sector 70. During the raid, police recovered mobile phones, cheque books, rubber stamps, ID cards from various institutions, affiliation documents, visiting cards, certificates, letterheads, envelopes, a trust deed, ATM cards, and cash. Each suspect was found in possession of at least one mobile phone. A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to forgery, cheating, impersonation, and endangering safety, as well as provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950. The gang claimed links to international bodies and displayed numerous fake credentials to bolster their image, Awasthi added. We are now verifying their backgrounds, affiliations, and identifying any additional accomplices or victims. All six accused have been remanded to judicial custody, and the investigation is continuing. The UP Special Task Force on July 22 had arrested 47-year-old Harsh Vardhan Jain from Ghaziabad for running embassies of four micronations Westarctica, Seborga, Poulbia and Ladonia from a rented house. Claiming to be their ambassador, Jain similarly possessed forged diplomatic plates, luxury cars and official seals. Police are probing alleged overseas job scams, hawala links and counterintelligence activities. Custody plea is pending in court. They are also examining statements by Westarctica and Seborga for possible use in the investigation.
Drone rumours trigger panic in UP village, 45-year-old Bhurey Singh serves as 'sky sentry'
LUCKNOW: In Puranpur, a rural tehsil in Pilibhit district, 45-year-old Bhurey Singh now stands on nightly vigil with a flashlight strapped to his bicycle and a thick wooden stick in hand. Hired two weeks ago by local residents, he serves as the village's sky sentry. They say thieves are using drones to plan robberies, Bhurey told PTI. Whether it's true or not, we can't take any chances. His nightly patrol reflects a wave of fear spreading across more than 300 villages in at least a dozen districts of western Uttar Pradesh -- from the forest edges of Pilibhit to the urban sprawl of Ghaziabad. Since mid-July, cries of Drone chor! have echoed through village lanes at night, replacing the usual silence of the countryside. Shadows dart across rooftops, wooden lathis are clutched tightly, and families stay awake long past midnight in fear of unseen threats from above. Villagers speak in hushed tones of mysterious drones flying after dark, allegedly scouting rooftops and identifying weak entry points. In many communities, drones have become ghosts in the sky. Sometimes real. Often imagined. Always feared. As the panic grew, so did state attention. Last week, the matter was reviewed in a high-level law and order meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He issued a stern warning against those spreading rumours or flying drones without authorisation. Those creating fear using drones -- or spreading misinformation -- will be charged under the Gangster Act, the chief minister directed. Provisions under the NSA may also be invoked if necessary, he said. To regulate drone usage, police have been instructed to maintain a dedicated drone register. DIG Kalanidhi Naithani of Meerut Range directed all police stations in his jurisdiction to list drone owners and take immediate action against individuals operating drones after dark. He cautioned citizens against using drones just for fun, warning of strict legal consequences for violations. Despite these measures, fear persists on the ground. Punjab launches anti-drone systems to tackle drugs & weapons smuggling from Pakistan According to police, the roots of this hysteria lie in Amroha, where bizarre rumours began circulating in early June about an underwear-clad, oil-smeared gang of thieves using drones to survey homes before burglaries. Though the story appeared implausible, it spread rapidly. Soon, villages in neighbouring districts such as Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Meerut, and Bijnor began reporting similar drone sightings. Many videos, some doctored or outdated, went viral on social media. Every flickering light or low-flying object sparked panic. On WhatsApp, paranoia quickly outpaced fact. Officials attribute the growing alarm to low digital literacy, widespread misinformation, and deep-seated anxieties around unfamiliar technologies. What began as whispers has now escalated into violence. In Modinagar, Ghaziabad, a man visiting his girlfriend from Hapur was mistaken for a drone operator and beaten by a mob earlier this month. He had no drone, only the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In Bareilly, a toy drone found on the roof of a government school caused alarm. Four brothers returning from Delhi were intercepted and assaulted by locals who assumed they were part of a drone theft gang. Police later confirmed the drone was a broken plastic toy incapable of flight. In Aurangabad, Bulandshahr, a blinking light in the sky triggered chaos. A man walking nearby -- allegedly drunk and unaware -- caught, stripped, and beaten. Drone vigil ensures safety at Bapatla beaches He had no connection to any drone activity. Police helplines in several districts have received hundreds of drone-related complaints in recent weeks. However, senior officers maintain that no thefts have been conclusively linked to drone surveillance. Drone sightings have been reported for over a month now, DIG Naithani told PTI. But not a single theft case has been proven to involve drones. This hysteria is driven entirely by rumours and fear. Over 40 people have been arrested in districts such as Meerut, Amroha, and Sambhal for inciting panic or spreading false information. Police in several areas have launched awareness drives, directing drone owners to register their devices or face fines. WhatsApp helplines have been issued to counter hoaxes. In Amroha, three YouTubers filming drone footage were detained for flying without police permission. They were released after verification, but the incident added to local suspicion. In Meerut, two content creators were held for allegedly spreading fake drone-related videos. Police in the affected districts have appealed to residents to approach authorities if they spot a drone, instead of spreading rumours on social media. Superintendent of Police (Rampur) Vidya Sagar Mishra told PTI, We have held meetings with influential community members at the village level and sought their support to counter the rumours. The officer said drone sightings were largely hearsay and had no proven links to any organised gang. Still, in many homes, fear continues to shape daily life. One or two people in every household now stay awake through the night, looking at the sky, said Ramapati Verma of Fatehganj in Bareilly. We can't let our guard down. What if the thieves come? What if they hurt someone? she asked.

Hindu Yuva Vahini leader lured LLB student with job promise, raped her in Ghaziabad
LUCKNOW : The Ghaziabad city president of the Hindu Yuva Vahini is on the district police radar after allegedly raping an LLB student, who claimed she was called by the accused on the pretext of introducing her to a senior advocate but was instead taken to a flat and assaulted. The victim alleged that after the rape, the accused left her on the road and fled. He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone. According to sources, the victim reached Muradnagar police station at 11 pm. Members of the Bajrang Dal also arrived at the police station in support of the victim and created a commotion. Following this, the police registered a case against the accused. Police sources said raids were being conducted to nab him. The incident allegedly took place in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad. As per the police complaint, the victim met the accused, identified as Sushil Prajapati, a resident of Ghaziabad, in November 2021. Prajapati allegedly remained in regular contact with her over the phone. While studying law, she used to practise with a senior lawyer at the Meerut Court. Prajapati allegedly told her to start working at the Ghaziabad Court, claiming that he knew senior advocates there. He allegedly promised her that these advocates would provide her with a monthly remuneration and that his acquaintances would refer cases to her. The victim stated that she agreed to the suggestion and asked Prajapati to make arrangements for her practice in Ghaziabad Court. Sushil Prajapati called me at 11 am on Thursday and said that he had talked to a senior lawyer of Ghaziabad with whom he would introduce me, she claimed. In her complaint, she added that she took a bus from Meerut and reached Modinagar in Ghaziabad. From there, she travelled to the Rapid station, after which Prajapati asked her to come to Muradnagar. As I reached there, Sushil Prajapati was already standing there with his Thar, she mentioned. Prajapati allegedly took her to a flat, where he offered her a cold drink, saying the lawyer would arrive shortly. The cold drink was apparently spiked as I started feeling sleepy. Taking advantage of it, Prajapati forcefully assaulted me and raped me, the victim alleged in her complaint. She further claimed that Prajapati threatened her by saying he was a member of the Hindu Yuva Vahini with high-level connections, before leaving her on the road. He allegedly told her to return to Meerut quietly. After regaining consciousness, the victim reached Muradnagar police station to file her complaint. Upon learning about the incident, Gorakshak Dal and Bajrang Dal workers also reached the police station to support the victim. Meanwhile, Hindu Yuva Vahini's district president, Ayush Tyagi Kakda, said, The organisation does not support such workers who play with the dignity of sisters and daughters. According to Additional Police Commissioner Alok Priyadarshi, a case has been registered under the relevant sections against the accused and the victims medical examination was being conducted.

Four suspects are now under arrest. Further investigation is underway.

Rajasthan High Court refuses stay on arrest of cricketer Yash Dayal in minor rape case
JAIPUR: The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday declined to grant interim protection from arrest to Indian Premier League (IPL) cricketer Yash Dayal , who faces rape charges involving a minor. The single bench of Justice Sudesh Bansal observed that since the case concerns a minor victim, judicial intervention at this stage would be inappropriate, while directing police to submit the case diary by the next hearing on August 22. Dayal, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fast bowler, had approached the court through a criminal petition seeking anticipatory bail. His counsel, advocate Kunal Jaiman, alleged the cricketer was being targeted by an extortion racket, citing a similar FIR in Ghaziabad that was stayed by the Allahabad High Court, followed by the Jaipur complaint filed within a week. Ghaziabad woman accuses IPL player Yash Dayal of sexual harassment; another woman charges similar allegation Sanganer police station SHO Anil Jaiman disclosed that the Jaipur-based complainant, now 19, had known Dayal for two years since meeting through cricket circles when she was 17. Investigators claim Dayal exploited his position as a professional cricketer, initially promising career assistance before allegedly raping her. SHO Jaiman further stated that during the 2025 IPL season, when Dayal was in Jaipur, he called the girl to a hotel in Sitapura where he allegedly assaulted her again. Since the first incident occurred when the girl was a minor, provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been invoked. With the first alleged offense occurring during the victim's minority, the case invokes Section 376 (rape) of the IPC alongside POCSO Act provisions. Police confirm the investigation remains preliminary, with the case diary submission ordered for judicial review. Yash Dayal, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, plays for RCB in the IPL and has earned recognition for his fast-bowling performances.

UP Man alleges 'towel-size' medical gauze found inside wife's body weeks after cesarean delivery
GHAZIABAD: For nearly a month and a half, a medical gauze cloth the size of a towel remained inside the body of a Ghaziabad resident following her cesarean delivery, causing severe pain to the woman who did not have a clue about the foreign object's presence inside her body. The gauze was detected a month after Divya Khurana was discharged following the delivery, after weeks of high fever and pain, prompting doctors to carry out a string of tests. The woman's husband has accused gynaecologist Dr Nishi Sirohi of keeping them in the dark about the nature of the problem, obstructing remedial surgery at another hospital, and the pathologist she referred to of not providing his wife's reports. The chief medical officer of Ghaziabad told PTI that a three-member team, which included a gynaecologist, has been constituted to probe the matter. The gynaecologist has refuted the couple's claims as aseless, saying she will cooperate with the probe. According to Khurana's husband, Chirag Katari, on July 10, the foreign object was detected, and it was removed on July 11 during a surgery, which lasted for nearly three hours at a private hospital in Delhi's Patparganj area. Recalling the sequence of events, Kataria, who is a scientist in a private firm, on Monday told PTI, Cesarean delivery of my wife took place in a private nursing home in Ghaziabad run by Dr Nishi Sirohi and her husband. My wife's C-section took place on June 6, and a boy was born. She was discharged from the nursing home on June 9. He said after this, she had a fever of 102 degrees for 15 days and so was administered drips of antibiotic medicines for 7-8 days. This was followed by bouts of terrible headache and severe chest pain, Kataria added. After this, she experienced severe stomach pain and she fainted once, which prompted me to suspect that something was wrong. Due to the medication, the child also could not get his mother's milk owing to the huge dose of antibiotics, he said. Seeing the weak medical health of his wife, Kataria said that he consulted Dr Sirohi who recommended a complete blood test. In the test report, the TLC (total leukocyte count, which shows the number of white blood cells in the blood) stood at 18,000 as compared to a normal count of 8,000. On July 10, when she (the doctor) saw the reports, she also got scared. She then told me to go for an ultrasound test of the abdomen at a private pathology, Kataria said. The pathology lab conducted the ultrasound test and then asked for an X-ray test, and subsequently a scan. I gradually started feeling afraid and thought, why is the matter escalating? he said. Kataria's fears worsened seeing the urgency with which the pathology lab carried out the CT-scan. He said an existing patient's test was stopped midway and his wife's CT-scan was conducted. He further said that when he asked the pathology lab to give him the reports, they refused and told him to first consult the gynaecologist, Sirohi. When I reached the doctor's clinic, she was adamant about conducting a surgery. When I said that your nursing home is not equipped to conduct surgery, she said that she will remove the pus-like material using a syringe, he said. Kataria said he wanted a second opinion but Sirohi allegedly said there was no need for it and that his wife was like a sister. Kataria also claimed that the pathologist tried every trick in the book to not give the report to him and relented only when he threatened to involve the police. He then took the appointment of another Ghaziabad-based doctor but claimed that by the time he reached her clinic, Sirohi had already called her o not entertain him. My fears intensified. I asked the second doctor whether my wife needs to be admitted. She said that my wife must be admitted that very night itself, and there was no guarantee (of her being alive) the next day, Kataria said. I realised that I have to admit my wife to a hospital in Delhi, and on the night of July 10, I took my wife and admitted her to a hospital in Patparganj (Delhi). Here, all tests were conducted on the night of July 10 itself. They could clearly see a foreign body in the tests, he said. Kataria said a surgery was planned for the next day (July 11). After the surgery, which lasted for around 3 hours, a medical gauze, the size of a towel, was retrieved from inside my wife's body. Since that piece of cloth was inside her body for one-and-a-half months, it was attached to the ovary and other parts of the body, he claimed. Khurana was finally discharged on July 14, he said. Kataria said he has been getting calls from people saying that the Sirohis are influential people, and they dissuaded him from fighting them as it would be a long battle. On July 16, I lodged a complaint with the chief medical officer. On July 17, I lodged a police complaint. Initially, the CMO assured me that he will take action against the doctor, but later he backtracked. A DCP-ranked officer, after five days, also said that an FIR be registered in the case, and issued instructions to the police station. When the copy of the complaint reached the CMO, he alleged he CMO made a U-turn, saying his wife has not died while others have lost their wives and that their complaints are still pending for the past six months. The CMO said that he wants to give one chance to the doctor (Sirohi), Kataria said. When contacted, Ghaziabad Chief Medical Officer Dr Akhilesh Mohan on Monday told PTI, A three-member team, which includes a gynaecologist, has been constituted to probe the matter. I have written a letter to the nursing home, where the treatment (cesarean delivery) was done. As soon as I get the letter, action will be taken. Dr Nishi Sirohi said she has received a letter from the CMO on the matter 3-4 days ago and that she has given her reply. I feel that the person (Chirag Kataria) is speaking baseless things. The patient went from here in a proper condition. And (later), I told her that there is some pus in her stomach, and she should be admitted, so that treatment can be done after carrying out tests, she told PTI. They did not come to me. And, now after one and a half months, I am getting this letter from the CMO. I will fully cooperate in the probe, she added.
The arrest of Harshvardhan Jain, a 47-year-old man from Ghaziabad for operating a fake embassy , has revealed an elaborate web of deception, with alleged links to a Rs 300 crore scam, 162 foreign trips in a decade, and a network of shell companies with international reach. The man, Harshvardhan Jain, had been masquerading as a diplomat for years while allegedly luring people with overseas job offers and laundering money through the hawala route. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) arrested Jain last week from a swanky, two-storey rented house in Ghaziabad. The premises bore a nameplate declaring it as the Grand Duchy of Westarctica and identifying Jain as H.E. HV Jain, Honorary Consul. An NDTV report says that Jain had rented the current building just six months ago, but the fake embassy operation had allegedly been running since 2017, a span of nearly eight years. Flags of India and the fictitious Westarctica a self-proclaimed micronation in Antarctica with no international recognition were displayed prominently outside the building. The STF seized four cars with fake diplomatic number plates, forged documents, and a luxury watch collection during the raid. Investigations further revealed that Jain is suspected of running an overseas job racket, using the embassy faade for high-level networking before duping people. The scale of the alleged fraud is staggering, Jain is believed to be connected to a scam worth nearly Rs 300 crore. He had made 162 foreign trips in the last ten years, raising further questions about his financial operations. According to the NDTV report , the probe has found that Jain was closely associated with self-styled godman Chandraswami, a controversial figure from the 80s and 90s, once considered the spiritual adviser to multiple Indian prime ministers. During the raid, police reportedly found photographs of Jain with Chandraswami and Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi, both of whom were once linked to high-profile financial dealings and scandals. Chandraswami, allegedly introduced Jain to both Khashoggi and fugitive conman Ahsan Ali Sayed. Sayed, originally from Hyderabad and later a Turkish citizen, is accused of collaborating with Jain to open at least 25 shell companies for laundering money through hawala channels, says NDTV . Sayed ran a Swiss firm called Western Advisory Group, which promised clients assistance in securing loans in return for commissions. According to NDTV , the company allegedly collected over 25 million pounds (nearly Rs 300 crore) in brokerage before fleeing Switzerland. Sayed was arrested in London in 2022. UP Police are now investigating the extent of Jains role in the operation and whether the Ghaziabad fake embassy was used as a front for financial crimes. A nation of one: Ghaziabad fake embassy case shines light on micronations and legal grey zones Following Jain's arrest, Westarctica the micronation he claimed to represent issued a detailed statement disowning him. As reported by NDTV , Westarctica clarified that Jain had made a generous donation in 2016 and was subsequently offered the ceremonial title of Honorary Consul to India. However, the organisation said he was never granted ambassadorial powers or the authority to run an official embassy. During his recent arrest for fraud and other crimes, Mr Jain was found to be in possession of diplomatic number plates, passports, and other items bearing the seal of Westarctica, the organisation said in a statement published on their website. As an Honorary Consul, he was not authorized to create these items. Westarctica, itself, does not utilize number plates or passports and we have never permitted or encouraged our representatives to do so, it added. Westarctica said Jains actions were in violation of protocol and announced that he had been indefinitely suspended from the organisation. It also offered to cooperate fully with Indian authorities and extended sympathies to anyone who may have been defrauded by Jain. Westarctica is a self-declared micronation founded in 2001 by former US Navy officer Travis McHenry. The group lays claim to over 6,20,000 square miles of land in Antarctica, based on a loophole in the Antarctic Treaty System, which prohibits claims by nation-states but says nothing about private individuals. While the territory is uninhabited and lacks any legal recognition, Westarctica claims to have over 2,300 citizens and functions as a non-profit based in California, focusing on climate change awareness and Antarctic conservation. It has its own flag, currency, and honorary titles, though none are recognised by any government. NDTV reported that the Uttar Pradesh STF is expected to seek Jains custody in court on Monday. Investigators are looking into the full scope of his activities, including potential violations of diplomatic norms, financial fraud, and criminal conspiracy.

From Ravana to present-day IITians: All carry Kanwar of hope, devotion and gratitude
LUCKNOW: The roads are inundated not only with the heavy rainwater or the swelling rivers, but also with the sea of saffron -- palpable with Kanwariyas taking the pious Ganga Jal rushing to their destination to offer it to their Isht (the presiding deity) Lord Shiva. Transcending through the ages, when Ravana, believed to be the first Kanwariya, or Parashumram (one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu) or even Lord Ram himself, carried the sacred waters of the River Ganga in Kanwar to offer it to Lord Shiva to give him relief from the burning sensation of the poison he had consumed. It is believed that he stopped the poison in his throat that emerged from the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean by the Gods and Demons). Present day, IITians, engineers, or even NSG commandos are carrying the legacy of Kanwar Yatra forward. This year, over six crore devotees are expected to join the Kanwar Yatra. With the advent of the holy month of Shrawan, lakhs of devotees set out barefoot with Kanwars on their shoulders, heading toward Shiva temples with unwavering faith. Each Kanwariya carries Gangajal, and a personal story of devotion, hope, and gratitude, proceeding to their destination to offer it to their 'Isht' Lord Shiva on the day of Shrawan Shivaratri on July 23. Saket, 25, a pass out from IIT-Kanpur, is rushing towards barefoot to Barabanki carrying Kanwar on his shoulders to offer it to Lodheshwar Mahadev. Saket is now working at an MNC in Gurugram and has availed leave to join the Kanwar Yatra. I have been taking part in Kanwar Yatra for two years, said Saket, sharing that he is a Shiva devotee. He is carrying the Ganga Jal from Haridwar. Similarly, Ajay Kushwaha, a constable in the UP police, has rejoined the Kanwar Yatra this year after seven years. I got ill and had taken the vow to join the Kanwar Yatra after recovery, he said. In the crowd of Kanwariyas, an NSG commando was also seen carrying the Kanwar but he desisted from sharing his details. Some pray for healing, others for jobs, and some walk in fulfilment of past vows. An unflinching devotion to Lord Shiva fuels their faith. Sapna from Unnao had been battling with despair after her daughter was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Doctors had said it was the last stage. In desperation, she vowed to Lord Shiva that if her daughter recovered, she would carry a Kanwar. She went to Haridwar with her ailing daughter, family members, and a walker to carry the child. Since the commencement of the Yatra, her daughter hasnt needed any medication. Its been five days. Shes smiling, eating, and not in pain. Mahadev has heard our prayers, said Sapna. Other Kanwariyas along the way have also stepped in to help care for the child. Shweta from Ghaziabad brought Gangajal from Haridwar alongside her 1.5-year-old daughter. After four years of marriage and repeated medical consultations, she remained childless. When all doors seemed closed, I prayed to Mahadev, she recalled. Soon after, she got pregnant. This yatra is indeed her way of fulfilling that promise. Now my daughter is healthy, and Im walking with her to thank Bhole Nath, she said. Sumit, 15, from Ghazipur, is on his second Kanwar yatra. He is carrying Gangajal from Kashi to Chitara. While he seeks divine help to pass his Class 12 exams, his larger hope is to spark a change in his village. Theres no educational culture in our village. No one studies. No one gets job. Im praying to Lord Shiva to bring that change, said Vineet. Similarly, Pradeep Maurya, 25, from Jaunpur, is walking 120 km with his Kanwar. Years ago, he frequently fainted without reason. Doctors couldn't help with the issue. After I joined Kanwar Yatra, things changed. Now I am healthy. This is my fourth consecutive Yatra, he shared. Babli, from the Bhopura border in Delhi, walks with her 8-year-old grandson. She hopes Lord Shiva will help her family repay Rs 7-8 lakh in debt incurred during her sons weddings. Her yatra began on July 13 in Haridwar. She would reach Delhi by July 22. Each step in the Kanwar Yatra is a step in faitha prayer, a vow, or a quiet hope carried across hundreds of miles towards Lord Shiva.

Once marriage declared void, no obligation to pay maintenance: Allahabad HC
LUCKNOW: In a significant ruling, the Allahabad High Court held that once an order is passed declaring a marriage null and void, it automatically dates back to the date of the marriage. In such cases, the man would not be liable to pay maintenance to the wife as the marriage was terminated at the very onset. The court clarified that when a marriage is declared null and void under Section 11 of the Hindu Marriage Act, it is considered invalid from the very beginning. As a result, no legal obligation remains on the man to provide maintenance to the wife. The case involved a couple who married in February 2015. However, the relationship quickly turned bitter and the wife filed multiple FIRs against the man, alleging harassment and assault under various relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. During the hearing for anticipatory bail filed by the man, it was discovered that the wife had allegedly been previously married and had not disclosed this fact to the man initially. The revelation about her existing marital status prompted the man to approach the family court seeking a declaration that their marriage was void. The family court agreed and declared their marriage null and void in November 2021. The wife appealed against this decision but later withdrew her case, making the family courts order final. Despite this, the wife pursued maintenance under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. In August 2022, the Civil Judge in Ghaziabad granted her interim maintenance of 10,000 per month under Section 23 of the Act. The man challenged the order in the appellate court, which upheld the maintenance order. Dissatisfied with the decision, the man approached the Allahabad High Court in a criminal revision plea. After hearing both parties and reviewing the case details, the bench of Justice Rajeev Misra delivered the verdict. The court took notice of the fact that the wife had allegedly entered into a second marriage while her first marriage was still legally valid, which amounted to polygamyan act not allowed under Hindu law. Since by means of the declaratory decree, the marriage of the parties has been declared null and void, it shall relate back to the date of marriage. The logical outcome... is that once the marriage of the parties itself has been declared void ab initio, the subsequent relationship between the parties is of no consequence, observed the Court. The bench also stressed that once the marriage was declared void from the beginning, no valid domestic relationship as defined under Section 2(f) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2005 remained. Therefore, the wife could not claim maintenance based on a relationship that, legally, never existed. As a result, both the interim maintenance order passed by the Civil Judge and the appeal dismissal by the Additional District Judge were set aside. There is no relationship between the parties in terms of Section 2(f) of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 since 21.11.2021, the Court clarified. The Court concluded that both parties would bear their own legal costs in the matter.
