I Back Myself To Counterattack Now Rather Than Just Trying To Play The Situation: Kohli

Kotambi Cricket Stadium: Virat Kohli shed light on his match-winning knock of 93 against New Zealand in the series opener and explained that his intent stemmed from a clear understanding of his position in the batting order. The former captain demonstrated a model of how to chase a target as a batter by getting after the score quicky and decisively, whilst also executing that model in Indias four-wicket win over New Zealand at the Kotambi Cricket Stadium in Vadodara. India had lost Rohit Sharma (for 26) in the powerplay, but Kohli was quick to react with an aggressive start after such an early loss by hitting 6 fours in his first 20 balls and by not allowing New Zealand to dictate his scoring pattern after Sharma's dismissal. Well, the basic idea is I bat at No.3, Kohli said after winning the Player-of-the-Match award for his 93 off 91 balls. So if the situation is a bit tricky, I back myself to counterattack now rather than just trying to play the situation in because some ball has your name on it. The aggression was controlled rather than reckless. Kohli was clear that intent did not mean abandoning discipline. But at the same time, you dont play outrageous shots. You still stick to your strengths, but you back yourself enough to put the opposition on the back foot, he said. Kohli's aggressive style of play helped him form a significant partnership with Shubman Gill (partnership of 118 runs for the 2nd wicket) during that time in the chase, allowing him to swing the momentum firmly into India's favour. Kohli noted that during that partnership was when he felt India was firmly in control of the run chase. I just felt like if I push hard now in the first 20 balls, then we can probably string in a partnership straight after a wicket like Rohits where the opposition is going to go on the back foot, he said. And that actually ended up being the difference in the game. Although Kyle Jamieson took some late wickets, India won the match with an over remaining and hold a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Kohli played an amazing inning that set up the chase for victory and also allowed him to reach some big personal milestones. First, he reached the milestone of 28,000 International runs with a four in the 13th over off Adithya Ashok; he is now the fastest player to reach this milestone (624 innings) and did it 20 innings quicker than Sachin Tendulkar did. Kohli also surpassed Kumar Sangakkara's total of 28,016 International runs to now become the second-highest run scorer in the history of International Cricket, behind only Sachin Tendulkar. It was also his 45th Player of the Match in ODI cricket; he is now third behind only Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar for most all-time. 1st ODI: Hope He Keeps Piling On Runs, Says Gill On Kohli's Match-winning 93-run Knock

Kotambi Cricket Stadium: India skipper Shubman Gill lavished praise on batting legend Virat Kohli, who continued his rich form and played a match-winning knock of 93 runs in the chase of 301 as the hosts defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Kotambi Cricket Stadium. Coming off an injury layoff, Gill played a captain's knock and scored 56 off 71 deliveries, including three boundaries and two sixes. Always feels great to chip in, especially when you're chasing. Staying in the present is most important, especially for athletes. That's what I try to do, said Gill after the match. The former India captain entered the match needing just 25 runs to reach 28,000 international runs and reached the milestone with a boundary off Adithya Ashok in the 13th over. In doing so, Kohli became the fastest cricketer to reach the milestone, achieving it in just 624 innings, 20 fewer than Sachin Tendulkar, who held the world record before Kohli broke it. Kohlis innings also saw him surpass Kumar Sangakkara to become the all-time second-highest run-scorer in international cricket history, moving past the Sri Lankan greats tally of 28,016 runs. Tendulkar remains at the top with 34,357 international runs. Kohli and Gill formed a formidable 118-run partnership. At the moment, Kohli's making batting look easy; it's tough to start on these pitches. Tough to replicate what he does. Hope he keeps piling on runs, Gill added. The Indian skipper also confirmed that Washington Sundar, who walked off the ground with an injury after bowling only five overs in the first inning, was suffering a side strain and will go for a scan after the match. Arshdeep did well last series, Siraj wasn't there, we want to keep rotating as there aren't that many ODIs. Washington has a side strain, will go for a scan after the match. Even after a close defeat, New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell was proud of his side's effort and was in full praise of Daryl Mitchell and pacer Kyle Jamieson, who piled on the pressure on India with quick wickets. 1st ODI: Kohlis 93, Rahuls Unbeaten 29 Help India Take 1-0 Lead Over NZ

Kotambi International Stadium: Courtesy of half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, followed by KL Rahuls 29 not out, India clinched a four-wicket win against New Zealand in the three-match ODI series opener here at the Kotambi International Stadium (BCA) as the Men in Blue took a 1-0 lead. Rohit Sharma and skipper Gill got to business from the word go, with the former making his intentions clear with a six in the very first over. During his time out on the field, Rohit also broke the world record, becoming the first player in the world to hit 650 sixes in international cricket. Soon after scripting history, the former skipper was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson, scoring 26 off 29. Kohli then breathed fire, got off to a solid start, and kept scoring boundaries. While the on-field battle unfolded, the spotlight firmly remained on Kohli during Indias chase. The former India captain entered the match needing just 25 runs to reach 28,000 international runs and achieved the landmark with a boundary off Adithya Ashok in the 13th over. In doing so, Kohli became the fastest cricketer to reach the milestone, reaching it in just 624 innings, 20 fewer than Sachin Tendulkar, who held the world record before Kohli broke it. Kohlis innings also saw him surpass Kumar Sangakkara to become the all-time second-highest run-scorer in international cricket history, moving past the Sri Lankan greats tally of 28,016 runs. Tendulkar remains at the top with 34,357 international runs. Kohli and Gill formed a formidable 118-run partnership as the Indian team sailed to the 100-run mark with ease. The former continued his rampant form in the format and got to his fifty in 44 deliveries. Gill, who had been returning to the helm after an injury layoff and also making his return to international scenes for the first time since his T20 World Cup snub, slammed his 16th ODI fifty in 66 balls. Soon, in the 27th over, Gill handed one to Glenn Phillips at extra cover and walked off scoring 56 off 71. Shreyas Iyer then showed great intent and smashed leg-spinner Adithya Ashok for two fours and one six as India got back into the game. Kohli and Iyer shared a 77-run stand for the third wicket, but their partnership ended at a crucial stage, with Jamieson initiating a short collapse. The tall pacer first picked Kohli at 93 in the first delivery of the 40th over, and then sent Ravindra Jadeja packing cheaply on the overs last delivery. Returning for the 42nd over, Jamieson dismissed Iyer for 49 off the first ball as the Men in Blue suffered a major setback. With Washington Sundar suffering an injury earlier in the day, Harshit Rana walked out to bat at No. 7. While he managed to hit a couple of fours and a maximum, his stay was cut short at 29 (23) by debutant Kristian Clarke, who picked up his maiden ODI wicket. As the target and remaining deliveries came down at an equal rate, Rahul smashed consecutive boundaries in the 49th over, narrowing the target to one run with seven balls left. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed a six off the next delivery to finish off the chase as he made sure that India won the game with an over to spare. Earlier, Daryl Mitchell played a crucial anchoring role with a composed 84 as New Zealand posted a competitive total of 300/8. After being put in to bat, the visiting sides openers Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls started cautiously on a sluggish pitch before steadily increasing the scoring rate. The duo reached their half-centuries off consecutive deliveries in the 20th over and stitched together a 117-run opening stand, New Zealands first century partnership away from home since 2019, helping the visitors reach 104 without loss after 20 overs. India clawed back through Harshit Rana, whose sharp bowling and KL Rahuls excellent wicketkeeping ended Nicholls knock of 62. Rana struck again soon after to dismiss Conway for 56, shifting the momentum Indias way. Mohammed Siraj removed Will Young, while Kuldeep Yadav accounted for Glenn Phillips, leaving New Zealand at 153/4 in 30 overs. Mitchell Hay provided a brief counterattack with an 18-run cameo, but it was Daryl Mitchell who held the innings together. Showing patience and control, Mitchell brought up a measured half-century and continued to anchor the innings even as wickets fell around him. India tightened the screws in the death overs, with Michael Bracewell run out for 16 and Zakary Foulkes dismissed for 1. Prasidh Krishna finally ended Mitchells resistance in the 48th over, dismissing him for a well-crafted 84. Late runs from Kyle Jamieson and debutant Kristian Clarke helped New Zealand cross the 300-run mark as Krishna ended up conceding 12 runs in the final over. The visitors eventually finished at 300/8. The two sides will now travel to Rajkot for the second ODI, set to be played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium on Wednesday. No Better Place Than A Full Crowd Of Blue: Daryl Mitchell On NZ Youngsters First Cricket Experience Of India

Kotambi International Stadium: New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell expressed that he was glad that the young players on his team had the opportunity to play in India for the first time. He noted that there is no better environment for such an experience than in front of a packed Indian crowd in blue. Mitchell was the top-scorer for his side after the Kiwis were put to bat first as he played an anchors innings and made 84 runs off 71 deliveries as the visitors posted 300/8 on the scoreboard at the Kotambi International Stadium (BCA). Speaking to the broadcasters after the first innings, Mitchell said that getting 300 on a slower wicket was pleasing. As a group, the way we scraped our way to that total on this surface gives us something to bowl at. You always want more as a team. We did lose a couple of wickets in the middle, but I thought the partnerships we built were important. To get to 300 on a slower wicket, especially for us as Kiwis, is pleasing. Now its about getting out there with energy and seeing what we can do with the ball. Yeah, and also the new rule of one ball after 34 overs, it gets a lot softer and harder to hit. Thats the challenge of modern one-day cricket - just trying to maximise whatever you can get, he said. 1st ODI: Daryl Mitchells 84 Helps New Zealand Set 301-run Target For India

Kotambi International Stadium: Daryl Mitchell was New Zealands star batter, as his 71-ball 84 helped the side reach a decent 300/8 in 50 overs and overcome the Indian bowlers late carnage in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Kotambi International Stadium (BCA). After being put in to bat, New Zealand started quietly and sluggishly, with openers Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls proceeding cautiously. However, once they picked up pace, the Indian bowlers struggles began as they failed to get the first breakthrough. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Washington, and Kuldeep Yadav all faced the heat as the openers reached their half-centuries off consecutive deliveries in the 20th over. The two went on to share an unbeaten 100-run stand, the first 100-plus opening stand for New Zealand away from home since 2019, as the Kiwis scored 104 runs in 20 overs without losing a wicket. Building on momentum, Nicholls (62) smashed Rana for two consecutive boundaries in the 22nd over, but the fast bowler had the last laugh as brilliant glovework by KL Rahul brought an end to the New Zealanders innings. Rana also dismissed Conway (56) when he returned to bowl the 24th over, leaving the two set openers back in the hut. The visitors failed to get going thereafter as the Men in Blue kept striking at regular intervals, leaving no scope for run-scoring. Siraj got his first wicket of the day in the 28th over when he dismissed Will Young (12), as New Zealand reached 153/3 in 30 overs, managing only 49 runs in 10 overs. While the opening pair added 117 runs, India fought back with three wickets to halt their momentum. Kuldeep soon joined the pacers in the celebrations as he picked up Glenn Phillips (12), adding to the BlackCaps woes. Mitchell Hay gave his side some respite with quick runs on the scoreboard, but Prasidh Krishna cut his innings short as the former was bowled out for a 13-ball 18. While wickets kept falling at one end, Daryl Mitchell kept his good form going and raced to a slow half-century, anchoring the teams innings against the dominant-looking Indian bowling unit. But back-to-back wickets of Michael Bracewell (run out for 16 by Shreyas Iyer) and Zakary Foulkes (1) showcased some clutch bowling by the hosts as the Kiwis struggled to add runs in the death overs. While Daryl aimed to finish strongly, Krishna ended his innings by dismissing him in the 48th over, helping India maintain their dominance as the World No. 3 ODI batter walked back scoring a well-made 84. 1st ODI: Gill Returns At Helm As India Ask New Zealand To Bat First

Kotambi International Stadium: India won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series here at the Kotambi International Stadium (BCA). The hosts suffered a major blow ahead of the series opener as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the series due to a right side strain injury, and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel. All focus will be on stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are in top form in the format across international and domestic cricket. The former is also chasing several milestones and will aim to go big with the bat and add multiple feathers to his already illustrious cap. Winning the toss, India captain Gill, when asked about their plan for the game, said, Try different kinds of combinations, you know, see what combination suits us the best for different conditions, obviously when we play in India. Whenever you're bowling second, there's a bit of a challenge with the dew, and so try out what kind of combination suits our condition the best. It looks like a good wicket. Hopefully, I think it'll be a little bit easier to bat on in the second innings with the new coming in, and that was the thought process behind bowling first. I think playing a bit of Vijay Hazare series, everyone is coming after playing some matches, so everyone looks in good form. We've played a lot of cricket together, so you know, the environment is always nice and calm whenever we get together. Speaking of the combination, he said that the side has six bowlers, with Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav as spinners and Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana as the pacers. Meanwhile, New Zealand are fielding a rather inexperienced side and will be looking to challenge the Men in Blue. Michael Bracewell, who is leading the BlackCaps in Mitchell Santners absence, said that they too would have wanted to bowl first but were happy to bat. Jadeja Fine-tunes Bowling Accuracy In Special Training Session Ahead Of IND Vs NZ 1st ODI

Vijay Hazare Trophy: Indias premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was seen putting in extra work through a special spot training session ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand here at the Kotambi Stadium In a video shared by the BCCI on Sunday, Jadeja was seen doing a unique bowling practice. The all-rounder was pitching the ball between different coloured cones placed on the surface, according to the instructions of bowling coach Morne Morkel, who was continuously guiding and monitoring the Indian legend. Coach gave me a task: by the trigger, when I am going to pitch the ball, he will name the colour blue, green and red. He will pick from all three, and I have to pitch the ball closer to that colour with accuracy, like a normal match pitch. And in between, he also kept two blue coloured balls for the full ball. So, at the same time, he will tell me where to pitch the ball at the last moment, Jadeja said while explaining the practice. Jadeja enters the series with form, fitness, and confidence on his side. The all-rounder has looked sharp in domestic cricket this month, scoring an unbeaten 52 against Gujarat and following it with 36 and figures of 1-48 against Services in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Against New Zealand, Jadeja has built a strong ODI record across 15 years. He has scored 386 runs in 16 matches against New Zealand at an average of 48.25. Rishabh Pant Ruled Out Of ODI Series Against New Zealand Due To Right Side Strain

Baroda Cricket Association Stadium: India have suffered a setback ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand as wicketkeeperbatter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the threematch series due to a right side strain injury. At Indias optional practice session at the BCA B ground, Pant looked organised in his batting session going for almost 50 minutes. But Pant experienced discomfort after being hit above the waist while facing a delivery from a throwdown specialist. He immediately fell to his knees due to the immense pain and was quickly attended to by the support staff members and left the nets. Scans and assessment by the team doctor showed that Rishabh copped a blow on the ribcage on the right side and a side strain has been detected, thus ruling him out of this ODI series against New Zealand, said sources familiar with the matter to IANS on Saturday. Pant is now expected to rest for several days before reporting to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for further assessment and rehabilitation. Pant had come into the ODI series on the back of leading Delhi in the 2025/26 Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) league stage in Bengaluru. WPL 2026: Lanning Goes Past Perry To Become Second-highest Run-getter

DY Patil Stadium: UP Warriorz skipper Meg Lanning went past Ellyse Perrys tally of 972 runs to become the second-highest run-scorer in the Womens Premier League (WPL) when she took on Gujarat Giants in the second match of the tournament here at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday. Lanning, after her 27-ball 30-run knock, tallies 981 and is just 50 runs short of Mumbai Indians all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunts tally, who leads the chart with 1031 runs (after Match 1 of WPL 2026). Sciver-Brunt is the only player in the tournament with 1000+ runs to her name, thanks to a brilliant 2025 campaign that saw her script history. The England skipper, during MIs victorious WPL 2025 campaign, became the first and only cricketer to score 500+ runs in a single season so far. The previous record was Perrys 347, achieved during her team, Royal Challengers Bengalurus (RCB), victorious WPL 2024 season. The ongoing 2026 season will witness a race between Lanning and Sciver-Brunt, as the two senior pros aim to attain the No. 1 position in the list of all-time top run scorers of the tournament. Australia's Lanning, now Warriorz captain, has been one of the most consistent players in WPL history. She played for Delhi Capitals in the first three seasons, scoring 952 runs in 27 matches, helping the franchise reach the finals in all three WPL seasons so far. She was released by DC before WPL 2026 and subsequently acquired by UP Warriorz, who appointed her as the team captain for the ongoing season. 1st ODI: Gill Says Having Rohit And Kohli In Team makes Life A Lot More Easier

Vijay Hazare Trophy: Indias ODI captain Shubman Gill shared his thoughts on playing alongside two legendary figures, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, as the stalwarts continue to dominate the 50-over format across domestic and international stages. The Men in Blue are set to face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series starting Sunday, with the first game scheduled to be played at the BCA Stadium (Kotambi) in Vadodara. The match will see Rohit and Kohli back in India colours, and Gill marking his return to captaincy in the format after being ruled out of Indias previous series against South Africa. Among the two players you have named, one is one of the greatest openers (Rohit) of all time in ODIs, and Virat bhai is one of the greatest ODI batsmen ever. So, definitely when you have these two people in your team, it makes your life a lot easier, an elated Gill told the reporters at the pre-match press conference. And whenever you are in that kind of situation, if you are in a tough situation, they always have been in those kinds of situations and conditions many times in their life. So, you can always go to them and see what they are thinking or what they would do. And that piece of information is very valuable for any captain, he added. Rohit and Kohli recently played a couple of Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for their respective state teams, Mumbai and Delhi, and both notched centuries in winning causes. Moreover, Kohli's century against Andhra Pradesh also made him the fastest player to reach 16,000 List A runs, and he is now just two centuries away from equalling the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record of 60 List A hundreds. And whenever you are in that kind of situation, if you are in a tough situation, they always have been in those kinds of situations and conditions many times in their life. So, you can always go to them and see what they are thinking or what they would do. And that piece of information is very valuable for any captain, he added. 'I Respect Selectors Decision': Shubman Gill's Straightforward Response On T20 World Cup Snub

T20 World Cup: Indias Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill has finally opened up on his T20 World Cup snub and said that he respected the selectors decision and believes that nobody can take away whats written in destiny. Gill, who served as vice-captain of the T20I team since Gautam Gambhir's appointment as head coach, was excluded from Indias 15-member squad for the 20-over World Cup, scheduled to begin from February 7, with Axar Patel being named Suryakumar Yadavs deputy. It is my belief that I am right where I am supposed to be in my life. Whatever is written in my destiny, nobody can take that away from me. As a player, I want to play in World Cups and win games for my team. But having said that, I respect the selectors decision. I wish the T20 team all the very best. I hope they win the World Cup, Gill said, addressing the media in a pre-match press conference ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand here at the BCA (Kotambi) Stadium. Gill was thrust into the T20I lineup just before last year's Asia Cup, as the Indian team trusted that this versatile anchor would perform well alongside an aggressive batting unit. Gill took the place of Sanju Samson, who had scored three T20I hundreds in the past year. He opened the innings with his Punjab teammate Abhishek Sharma. It is my belief that I am right where I am supposed to be in my life. Whatever is written in my destiny, nobody can take that away from me. As a player, I want to play in World Cups and win games for my team. But having said that, I respect the selectors decision. I wish the T20 team all the very best. 1st ODI: India Hope To Extend Winning Streak Against Inexperienced New Zealand (preview)

Kotambi International Stadium: All eyes will once again be on stalwarts and former captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma when India take on New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Kotambi International Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday. The venue is set to host its first-ever mens ODI game, and the match will mark the return of mens internationals at the venue. The last mens international game played here was also between India and New Zealand when the two sides squared off on December 4, 2010, and current head coach Gautam Gambhir stood out for the Men in Blue with a magnificent century. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have quit the T20 and Test formats, will take the field again after the recent series against South Africa -- taking on the BlackCaps, who have formed a rather inexperienced squad for the series but are ready to challenge. The series could very well be Rohit and Kohlis final appearance in Indian colours until July this year, as it's the teams last ODI series before the T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League (IPL). The series will mark Shubman Gills first assignment since being left out of Indias T20 World Cup squad, with the 25-year-old set to return as captain of the ODI team. He will be chasing his first series win as Indias ODI captain, having been ruled out of the previous ODI series against South Africa and losing the assignment against Australia in October down under. New Zealands batting will rely heavily on Devon Conways firepower. The 34-year-old has a strong record in India, scoring 527 ODI runs there since 2023. Daryl Mitchell is another key player to watch, as the World No. 3 has been in excellent form in white-ball formats. On the eve of the match, both Virat and Rohit put in lengthy practice sessions, spending close to an hour and a half facing Indian pacers, spinners, and throwdown specialists, following their two appearances each in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The duo has been busy turning back time in internationals. Kohli averaged a whopping 151 against South Africa and is in no mood to slow down. Rohit, meanwhile, is the No. 1 ODI batter and has a hefty average of 52.9 against New Zealand since 2023. Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is set to make a comeback after being ruled out of international cricket due to a spleen injury he sustained during the tour of Australia last year, and will look to continue his dominance at No. 4. As for the BlackCaps, their inexperienced pace attack will be put to the test against the strong Indian batting lineup. The visitors will rely hugely on Kyle Jamieson, who is the most-experienced pacer in their squad with 20 ODI caps. New Zealand are on a winning streak in ODIs, having won nine straight games since losing the 2025 Champions Trophy final to India. However, India, who will enter the series as favourites, have won their last seven ODIs against the BlackCaps and will look to extend the streak. WPL 2026: Mumbai Indians Is The Team To Beat, But Will Face Stiffer Competition From Others, Says Anjum

The Harmanpreet Kaur: Two-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) remain the team to beat in the 2026 Women's Premier League (WPL), but will face stronger challenges this season from other sides, said former India captain Anjum Chopra. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI are the reigning WPL champions and have won two of the three editions since the tournament's inception in 2023. Anybody can challenge. It's not that MI can't be challenged. We saw that in season two, also, where they were challenged by RCB and sometimes the Gujarat Giants. But because of the belief that they are a well-oiled unit, they know how to win championships, we always feel, no, no, no, the Mumbai Indians is the team to beat. It's like whether in the IPL or WPL, they are a team to beat, and that is actually a fact as well. But it should be a keenly contested one because now it's not just the foreign players who are doing well. It's also the Indian talent who has started doing well. They've just won a World Cup, Anjum Chopra told IANS in an exclusive conversation on the eve of the competitions commencement. MI have key uncapped Indian players in G. Kamalini (retained), as well as Sanskriti Gupta, and Sajeevan Sajana. They have also added promising talents such as Rahila Firdous, Poonam Khemnar, Triveni Vasistha, and Nalla Reddy, after passing through the eyes of their eagle-eyed scouts. The youngsters and uncapped cricketers Mumbai Indians unearth -- talk about Rahila Firdaus, who's been picked as well. These players have done well in domestic cricket. If Mumbai is scouting, and you believe in that Mumbai scouting, you would feel that these players are the ones that they'll keep an eye on. How Charani came in for Delhi Capitals and straightaway walked into the Indian team and became a world champion. Within a span of 10 months, the world has changed for her. So, Mumbai also has those kinds of players in their lineup. Yes, they can be challenged. The opposition teams, how much force they come up with, what game plan they come up with, can they get one up on the defending champions, is for them to plan and deliver, added Anjum. With the West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews set to open the batting, MI face decisions over her opening partner after an injured Yastika Bhatia was acquired by the Gujarat Giants. Anjum thinks the time is ripe for Kamalini to become the opener after being a lower-order finisher in the 2025 season-winning campaign. I think Kamalini can open the innings with Hayley Matthews right at the top. I think that can actually be looked at as well. Other than that, possibly they'll have to go ahead with one of the younger players also in the playing eleven because in the middle order, they've already got Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur in the mix, identified with Amelia Kerr. So, either they go with Kamalini right at the top in the batting department or possibly look at a younger player coming in who they feel will be able to deliver at the top with Hayley Matthews, she added. The tournament will be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, both known for batting-friendly conditions that could favour MIs enviable all-round depth. Conditions will be very good for batting if you have to look at either of the venues. Because we've already seen Navi Mumbai, we know how good the conditions are. When you get to Kotambi Stadium, we've seen that the pitches are so nice to bat on. With the dew settling in, what are the challenges for the bowlers in the second half? That is one area that needs to be addressed. So, most captains might want to just win the toss and bowl so that they're bowling in the second half because of the dew. Other than that, batting-wise, conditions should be friendly, said Anjum. She also suggested that boundary dimensions be extended in WPL 2026. I just hope that the boundaries are pushed back slightly. That might just happen. Although I don't know the exact dimensions right now, I guess that can happen. At least by another five meters, that can be pushed back. MI have also brought in new coaching personnel Lisa Keightley takes over as head coach, while Kristen Beams is the spin-bowling coach - to complement the existing championship-winning culture built under former head coach Charlotte Edwards. She also suggested that boundary dimensions be extended in WPL 2026. I just hope that the boundaries are pushed back slightly. That might just happen. Although I don't know the exact dimensions right now, I guess that can happen. At least by another five meters, that can be pushed back. Also Read: Live Cricket Score Also, its good to have that freshness coming around for those players because, as I said, the 11-12 players are the same for the Mumbai Indians. But if you have some fresh perspective coming in, it also helps the team in different ways. So, I'm sure the thinking will be no less. I've just heard two days back from their camp that there is no pressure, but you can always try and win the championship, concluded Anjum. Article Source: IANS

Dr. Barnali Chaklader, Dean Academics and Programs, highlighted the academic foundations supporting placement outcomes, stating, Strong placements at IMT Ghaziabad are a natural outcome of rigorous academics, deep industry engagement, and the collective effort of our faculty and students. Our focus is on building the right skills, values, and confidence that organisations seek. Faculty-driven rigor, active alumni mentoring, and the institutes legacy together create trust among recruiters. When these elements align with student commitment, strong placement outcomes follow organically. Contextualising the results amid broader economic conditions, Dr. Poonam Garg, Chairperson Placements, said, Amid a challenging macroeconomic environment, IMTs interim placement progress reflects the institutes legacy of academic excellence and its commitment to rigor, industry relevance, and responsible leadership. The continued confidence of our corporate partners reinforces our focus on developing future-ready professionals who create sustainable value and adapt to evolving business realities. Highlighting the BFSI-specific academic integration, Prof. Harsimran Sandhu, Chairperson PGDM BFS, noted, The Role Competency Framework bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world BFSI roles. By rigorously mapping the PGDM BFS curriculum to industry-defined competencies, we ensure that students are job-ready from day one, aligning academic depth with market relevance. Echoing the institutes placement momentum, students expressed confidence and satisfaction with their career outcomes. Yash Mehta said, IMT Ghaziabads industry-aligned curriculum, strong faculty support, and institutional legacy enabled a confident transition into my role at Schneider Electric. Sharing a similar sentiment, Kanishka Mathur noted, The PGDM BFS programs blend of theory, live projects, and structured placement support was instrumental in helping me secure a PPO with JP Morgan Chase. Their experiences reflect the effectiveness of IMT Ghaziabads role competencybased approach in preparing students for high-impact roles across sectors. Looking ahead, the next phase of rolling placements beginning January 2026 will focus on sectors such as e-commerce, fintech, healthtech, logistics and the expanding GCC ecosystem. Placements for students enrolled in international programs are being conducted through a separate, customised process, with the institute remaining optimistic about strong outcomes. An EV Newcomer That Doesn't Behave Like One

On paper, this looked like an underdog story waiting to happen. A young electric vehicle maker from Vietnam, a country better known for speed in textiles than speed on four wheels, stepping into India, the third largest car market in the world. Naturally, observers wondered how this brand would stand out among battle-hardened incumbents and cost-sensitive consumers. VinFasts first year in India reveals a playbook built on speed, confidence, and tightly aligned pillars of product, pricing, and aftersales policies But the underdog never played its part. Within months of stepping onto Indian soil, VinFast began doing a sequence of moves that made analysts double take. More and more dealers started signing with the brand. Banks shows up to finance both customers and showrooms. And in Tamil Nadu, a factory rose from empty land to a functioning production hub, producing VF 6 and VF 7 units assembled by local workers. Momentum like this is rarely accidental. It flowed from a playbook VinFast had tested in Vietnam, refined in Southeast Asia, and reinterpreted for Indias unique scale. At the core of this playbook is a trio of commitments that shaped its rise at home and define its ambitions abroad. VinFast refers to them as its three core pillars: high-quality vehicles, inclusive price, and exceptional aftersales policies. These pillars helped VinFast become the top selling automaker in Vietnam, and now they form the spine of its India strategy. Why VinFast Starts With VF 6 and VF 7 The VF 6 and VF 7 are perharps the clearest expression of how those pillars translate into practice. VinFast could have chosen to debut with any model, particularly a smaller one to get a low-risk entry. The brand has a wide lineup, from the cute and compact VF 3 that became a phenomenon in Vietnam to the luxury seven-seat VF 9. Yet it chose the VF 6 and VF 7 for India because they embody the companys core philosophy in a way that feels tailored to Indian consumers. First, high-quality vehicles . Both models carry European-influenced design and a level of fit and finish that defies the newcomer label. The VF 7 in particular has already captured attention. It was named EV Disruptor of the Year by the Jagran Hi-Tech Awards for its modern styling, spacious interior, and advanced features, which judges viewed as punched far above its expected segment position. Second, inclusive price . VinFast does not aim to be the cheapest brand in the market. Instead, it positions itself where aspiration meets accessibility. This formula succeeded in Vietnam, where VinFast offered generous equipment levels at competitive pricing, making EV ownership realistic for more households without watering down the premium experience. Even entry models came with features often reserved for higher segments. The VF 6 and VF 7 follow the same logic in India. They look premium, feel premium, and drive premium, yet remain priced for a segment where buyers are ready to upgrade from combustion vehicles without stepping into luxury territory. Third, exceptional aftersales policies . VinFast learned in Vietnam that convincing consumers to shift from petrol to electric requires more than technology. It requires confidence. Long warranties, clear maintenance policies, and easy access to service became part of its brand identity. In Vietnam, warranties for several models stretch up to ten years, a signal of engineering confidence that reshaped consumer expectations. Vietnamese users often reported that servicing VinFast models cost dramatically less than comparable petrol cars, sometimes by more than 80% in real world comparisons. These differences helped the brand surge to the top of the Vietnamese market and created a new expectation that a premium EV should also be practical. In India, the VF 6 and VF 7 arrive with the same class-leading warranty, and VinFast does not stop there. Buyers also get three years of free maintenance and three years of free charging, a little gift made possible through its strategic partner V-Green. Taken together, the VF 6 and VF 7 represent exactly how the brand intends to flip the script in each market its present: Deliver vehicles that feel premium in design and experience, price them within reach of the middle class, and support them with aftersales care that makes EV ownership feel reassuring. Factory Speaks Louder Than Ads There is marketing, and then there is a factory rising from the ground in 15 months. VinFasts Tamil Nadu plant is the physical expression of the brands belief in acting early and acting boldly. When the site was first chosen, there was nothing. The company surveyed fifteen locations across six states, chose Thoothukudi, and began construction with astonishing speed. Soon the plant rolled out the first VF 6 and VF 7, the very models that symbolize VinFasts aspiration in India. The pace felt familiar. In Vietnam, the Hai Phong plant had already shown what VinFasts execution looks like at full throttle. TIME Magazine described the factory floor as a place where robot arms twirl like pneumatic ballerinas, welding with 98% automation and producing multiple models on a single line. Even Google Maps could not keep up. The magazine noted that the satellite view still showed half of the 877 acre site sitting under the sea because VinFast built the reclaimed land faster than the satellite could refresh. Before the year was over, VinFast made another decisive move by signing an MOU with the Government of Tamil Nadu to expand its Thoothukudi facility on roughly 500 acres of newly allocated land. As part of the second phase of its 2 billion dollar commitment, VinFast is expected to invest an additional 500 million dollars to build dedicated production lines for electric buses and e-scooters, expanding beyond its current electric car output. Beyond the factory, VinFast brings with them a full ecosystem philosophy. Even before sales began, VinFast secured nationwide service and roadside partnerships with myTVS, RoadGrid, and Global Assure. It formed a battery lifecycle agreement with BatX, showing long-term responsibility for sustainability. And it laid the foundation for a charging network through V-Green, the company founded by VinFast founder Pham Nhat Vuong and which has been platform that already anchors Vietnams dense EV infrastructure. In parallel, the support infrastructure extends through financing partnerships. VinFast secured alliances with YES BANK, HDFC Bank, ICICI, Kotak, Axis, and the State Bank of India. These agreements cover retail buyers, dealer inventory, corporate fleets, and even in showroom financing. Banks responded enthusiastically perharps because VinFast arrived with credible scale, local manufacturing, and a commitment to long term presence that made lenders comfortable extending generous limits. Dealers noticed too. Within months, inquiries poured in daily from dealership groups across India wanting a spot in the network, including cities that were nowhere near VinFasts initial rollout plan. This ecosystem approach is not only operational. It is philosophical. It assures customers that buying a VF 6 or VF 7 is not a leap of faith into an untested category, but a move into a supported, well designed EV experience. The early response from Indian journalists and influencers has been a clear indicator of VinFasts resonance. During his tour of Vingroups ecosystem and the VinFast Hai Phong manufacturing complex, Vishal Ahlawat was immediately struck by the sheer scale on display. As he put it, The first thing I noticed was the vastness of the land, an enormous facility where they manufacture two wheelers, four wheelers, and even buses . Seeing VinFast vehicles everywhere in Vietnam also sparked a sense of possibility for the Indian market. He added, I would definitely love to see that in India someday. A First Year That Reads Like a Mission Statement Perhaps the most striking part of VinFasts first year in India is not the size of the factory or the number of banks or even the speed of construction. Rather, its the clarity of its intent. The company behaves not like a speculative entrant but like a long-term partner, building not for this quarter, but for the years that follow. It has already woven India into a production and service ecosystem that spans Vietnam, Indonesia, and other markets in Asia. And it has introduced vehicles that are not stepping stones, but flag bearers. The VF 6 and VF 7 are the embodiment of the companys three pillars. They prove that VinFast is not trying to sell just electric cars to India, but trying to build a complete, trustworthy EV experience. In Vietnam, this approach took VinFast from outsider to market leader. In India, it has already begun rewriting expectations of what a newcomer can pull off in a single year. A first year rarely changes a market, but it can set the mood for what follows. And if this is how VinFast begins its India story, the next chapter for a newcomer that behaves nothing like a newcomer is bound to be worth watching.

ISRO's heaviest rocket LVM3-M6 places US communication satellite into low earth orbit

SRIHARIKOTA: In a historic Christmas Eve mission, ISRO's heaviest rocket, LVM3-M6, successfully placed a US communication satellite into orbit on Wednesday. The Bengaluru-headquartered space agency said the LVM3-M6 has successfully placed the BlueBird Block-2 satellite into its intended orbit. The Bluebird Block-2 mission is part of a global LEO (Low Earth Orbit) constellation to provide direct-to-mobile connectivity through satellite. This constellation would enable 4G and 5G voice and video calls, texts, streaming and data for everyone, everywhere at all times. LVM3-M6 carried the communication satellite as part of a commercial deal between NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL) and US-based AST SpaceMobile (AST and Science, LLC). NewSpace India is the commercial arm of the ISRO. The 43.5 metre tall rocket soared majestically at 8.54 am from the second launch pad here on Wednesday. After a flight journey of about 15 minutes, the spacecraft Bluebird Block-2 got separated from the vehicle and it was successfully placed into orbit. Weighing 6,100 kg, the communication satellite would be the heaviest payload to be placed into the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) in LVM3 launch history from Indian soil, the space agency said. The previous heaviest was the LVM3-M5 Communication Satellite 03, weighing about 4,400 kg that was successfully launched by ISRO on November 2 in the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). The mission is aimed at deploying the next-generation communication satellite designed to provide high-speed cellular broadband directly to smartphones. AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only space-based cellular broadbank network, which is accessible directly by smartphones and designed for both commercial and government applications. The LVM3-M6 also known as the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MkIII) is a three stage rocket with a cryogenic engine designed and developed by ISRO's Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. The vehicle uses two S200 solid rocket boosters to provide the huge amount of thrust required for lift off. The booster has been developed by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. According to AST SpaceMobile, it has launched five satellites, Bluebird 1-5 in September 2024, which provide continuous coverage across the United States and other select countries. The company has planned to launch similar satellites to augment its network support and has partnered with over 50 mobile operators across the globe. The LVM3-M6 is the sixth operational flight of LVM3 and third dedicated commercial mission to launch the Bluebird Block-2 spacecraft. The LVM3 has a spectacular pedigree of completing eight consecutive successful launches including the ambitious Chandrayaan-2, Chandrayaan-3 missions, ISRO said.

Rajasthan airlifts tigress from MP to Bundi in first-of-its-kind interstate translocation

JAIPUR: Rajasthan has taken a historic step towards strengthening tiger conservation by airlifting a tigress from Madhya Pradeshs Pench Tiger Reserve to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Bundi district, to improve the genetic diversity of its tiger population. Wildlife experts said this is the first instance in the country of an interstate transfer of a tigress by air. The operation was conducted under strict scientific protocols, tight security, and multi-level coordination between agencies. The three-year-old tigress, identified as PN-224, arrived at Jaipur Airport on Sunday night around 10:30 pm aboard an Indian Army MI-17 helicopter. She was subsequently transported by road to Bundi and released into a special enclosure at around 6:30 am on Monday. The operation began on Sunday morning in the Pench Tiger Reserve, where the tigress was located hiding under trees in a dense forest. A team of veterinary doctors successfully tranquilised her, following which a detailed medical examination was conducted. Officials said her body temperature, heartbeat and respiration rate were found to be completely normal. After about an hour of medical and technical procedures, the tigress was airlifted at 4:55 pm. Owing to security considerations, she was flown directly to Jaipur instead of Bundi. Following a two-and-a-half-hour flight, she reached Jaipur and was moved in a specially designed cage vehicle to Ramgarh Vishdhari. The Tigress has been placed in the Bajaliya enclosure of the reserve, where she will remain under constant observation. Preparations for the translocation had been underway for several weeks. Chief Conservator of Forests Suganaram Jat and senior veterinary expert Dr Tejendra Riyad from Kota reached Pench on November 25. On December 5, the tigress was tranquilised and fitted with a radio collar. Wildlife experts said the translocation is crucial to prevent inbreeding, which often occurs when tiger populations remain confined to a limited area for long periods. She was initially scheduled to be brought to Ramgarh Vishdhari on December 10. However, the radio collar broke on December 6, creating difficulties in tracking her and stalling the operation. The original plan was to fly the tigress directly from Pench to Ramgarh Vishdhari. A helipad was constructed at Ramgarh, and helicopter trial runs were conducted over two days. However, permission from the Air Force was denied on security grounds. Sources said that the security personnel present during the trials differed from those deployed in Pench, and a different helicopter model was used. Considering the risks, authorities revised the plan and routed the transfer through Jaipur. Wildlife experts said the translocation is crucial to prevent inbreeding, which often occurs when tiger populations remain confined to a limited area for long periods. Inbreeding can lead to congenital diseases, reduced immunity, lower fertility, and physical deformities in future generations. The introduction of a new tigress will strengthen the gene pool and help ensure a healthier and more resilient tiger population in Ramgarh Vishdhari in the long term, an expert said. The tigress has been released into a specially developed one-hectare enclosure in the Bajaliya area of the reserve. She has been fitted with a radio collar, and her movements will be continuously monitored using AI-based camera traps and sensor systems. A Forest Department team camped in the Pench Tiger Reserve for nearly two weeks to track the tigress, conduct health checks, and complete the necessary procedures. At one stage, after the radio collar was removed, the tigress retreated deep into the forest, further delaying the mission. Eventually, with the help of trained elephants, officials managed to tranquilise her again. Despite posing significant challenges to forest teams from both states, the operation concluded successfully, marking a major milestone in Rajasthans tiger conservation efforts.

ISRO to launch BlueBird-6 on December 24

BENGALURU: One of the biggest commercial communication satellites, developed by the United States, BlueBird-6, will be launched on December 24, 2025, by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at 8.54 am. After multiple delays and prolonged wait, ISRO on Friday took to the social media platform X to announce the launch date. The satellite will be launched from ISROs Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM-3) rocket, which is popularly called as Bahubali. The low Earth Orbit satellite will be launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, the second launch pad. Earlier, AST SpaceMobile, a Texas-based company that developed the satellite, had announced the launch for December 15, 2025, and then it was postponed to December 21, 2025 and now to December 24. The satellite was transported to India from the US on October 19. It was later transported by road to Sriharikotta for further integration, fueling, testing and launch. The satellite launch is the first commercial venture of ISRO being handled by New Space India Limited, the commercial arm of ISRO. The aim is to earn revenue for the government through contracts and partnerships. According to AST SpaceMobiles team, this is the next-generation satellite and represents a 3.5 times increase in size compared to other BlueBirds 1-5 and supports ten times the data capacity. The aim of the launch of the satellite is to provide direct-to-device mobile broadband connectivity, fast and unhindered communication. It is also aimed to bridge the digital gap of poor terrestrial networks and to cover connected parts of the globe. It is also slated to carry the largest phased array of antennas to orbit. The ISRO officials said that the delay in announcing the launch date was due to prolonged pre-launching activities and the required tests. The officials said special attention had been made as the project will impact the communication and data centres across the globe, if there were any errors. The launch pad and vehicle also needed to be tested as this commercial partnership, showing Indias capability. As per ISRO data, the BlueBird-6 satellite launch is the second broadband customer to fly on LVM3 after Eutelsat OneWeb. The LVM-3, on November 2, had put Indias heaviest satellite-CMS-03, weighing 4.4 tonnes, in space.

Vadodara collectorate receives hoax bomb threat email

AHMEDABAD: Vadodara collectorate received a bomb threat email on Thursday morning, warning that the building would be blown up if it was not evacuated by 1 pm, instantly pushing the citys security grid into emergency mode. Upon receiving information, the special operations group of Akota Police, Vadodara Crime Branch, bomb and dog Squads rushed to the spot and sealed off the Collectors Office and halted public entry. They jointly conducted a search for nearly three hours, but no suspicious or objectionable item was found. Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjita Vanzara said, All police teams reached the Collectors Office immediately after the threatening mail was received, and thorough checks were carried out both inside and outside the premises, but no suspicious or objectionable item was found. Following the all-clear, routine work at the Collectors Office resumed. However, authorities remained on alert, with police continuing surveillance in and around the premises to rule out any delayed or secondary threat. The threat comes a day after several schools in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kalol and other locations receive d similar bomb threats. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vanzara on Thursday said police are examining whether the bomb threat issued to the Vadodara Collectors Office is linked to the series of hoax bomb emails sent to schools a day earlier. Confirming the probe, Vanzara said, An investigation is underway to check any connection with the mails received in Ahmedabad yesterday. Police are analysing similarities in the threats, including timing patterns, to determine if they originated from a single source. Investigators have noted that the school bomb threats on December 18 were received around 1.11 pm, while the email threatening the Vadodara Collectors Office arrived at around 1 pm on Thursday. The close timing has heightened suspicion that the sender may be attempting to test the states security response by triggering calculated panic across locations. Officials also recalled that a similar threatening letter had surfaced in Vadodara a few months ago, targeting a reputed school, a private company and the Collectors Office. That incident, too, ended without the recovery of any explosive material. Despite repeated hoaxes yielding no physical threat so far, police said the alerts are being taken seriously. Authorities stressed that every threat will be treated as genuine, with cyber teams tracing digital footprints and analysing email trails to identify those responsible for the latest wave of bomb scare messages in Gujarat.
