JAIPUR: Environmentalists and social organisations staged demonstrations against the Supreme Courts acceptance of the Union Environment Ministrys definition of the Aravalli mountains in several cities of Rajasthan on Monday. Meanwhile, a political war of words has erupted between former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav. Protests were held in Udaipur, Jodhpur, Sikar, Alwar and Ajmer, with police action reported at some places. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully described the Aravallis as the lungs of Rajasthan and warned that the agitation would intensify if the decision was not reversed. Responding to the protests, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma accused the Congress of spreading misinformation, saying, Former CM Ashok Gehlot is misleading the public on the Aravalli issue. The state government is fully committed to protecting the Aravalli range, and no decision will be allowed that causes harm to Rajasthans environment. The BJP further intensified its attack, with former Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathore alleging that Gehlot was misinterpreting the Supreme Court order for political gains. Rathore said the 100-metre criterion was finalised during the Congress regime in 2003. Centre will draw up new conservation plan for Aravalli, says Environment Minister amid row over SC order Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav also sought to clarify the Centres stand , stating, The Aravalli range will remain protected. Hills and slopes above 100 metres continue to be under protection, mining is completely banned in the NCR, and limited mining is permitted in only 0.19 per cent of the area. Twenty wildlife sanctuaries and four tiger reserves in the Aravallis are fully secure. Yadav added that the government is committed to keeping the Aravallis green and to strengthen protection standards in the range. The Aravalli range is one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, and we are fully committed to ensuring that it remains green. At the same time, it is important to establish clear and uniform standards for its protection, MinisterYadav said in an interview. The 100-metre criterion refers to the entire mountain structure, from the peak down to the ground level where its permanent base is located. In the absence of a clear definition earlier, there were irregularities in the grant of mining permits in the Aravalli region, he said. Gehlot, however, strongly rebutted the Centres claims. In a statement issued onMonday night, Gehlot said, The claims being made by the Union environment minister are completely misleading and far from the truth. He argued that the 100-metre definition should not be viewed in isolation and alleged that recent decisions point towards a systematic weakening of environmental safeguards. Gehlot also alleged that attempts to alter the Critical Tiger Habitat in Sariska and the September 5, 2023 notification bringing the Supreme Court-monitored Central Empowered Committee under the Environment Ministry reflect the governments intent to open protected areas to mining interests. With protests spreading and political rhetoric escalating, the controversy over the Aravalli definition is expected to intensify in the coming days. Prime accused involved in brutal killing of farmer in MP's Guna district arrested
BHOPAL:More than 50 hours after the brutal killing of a middle-aged farmer and assault of his two daughters in Guna district, the Madhya Pradesh Police arrested the prime accused, an expelled BJP leader, Mahendra Nagar, and his two close relatives on Tuesday evening. Mahendra Nagar, Harish, and Jitendra Nagar were arrested hours after the declaration of a bounty of Rs 10,000 each on the arrest of 13 absconding accused. Confirming the three fresh arrests in the case, a senior MP police officer told TNIE that with the recent arrests, the total arrests now stand at 4, which also include Mahendras brother, Hukum Singh. The 10 other accused on the run include Mahendras wife and two sons, besides two other female members of the extended family. Meanwhile, the local administration also freed large tracts of forest land encroached by Nagar and aides in multiple villages of the Fatehgarh police station area of Guna district on Tuesday. Farmer brutally murdered, daughters assaulted by BJP leader in MP's Guna over land dispute Earlier, on Monday evening, the ruling BJPs Guna district unit chief, Dharmendra Sikarwar, had expelled Mahendra Nagar from the party following the Sunday afternoons barbaric incident. On Sunday afternoon, horrific savagery had unfolded in Ganeshpura village of Guna district, when the BJPs local booth committee chief, Mahendra Nagar, along with relatives and aides, brutally murdered middle-aged farmer Ramswaroop Dhakad over a dispute about six bighas of land in adjoining Baran district of Rajasthan. Mahendra, along with aides, broke the limbs of the farmer before running an MUV and a tractor over him. To ensure that he didnt survive, the gun-wielding men accompanying the BJP leader didnt allow the villagers to take Ramswaroop to the hospital. When Ramswaroops two teenage daughters (aged 16 and 17 years) tried to save their father, Mahendra and aides assaulted them, tore their clothes, and even opened fire while being seated over them to scare villagers away. A critically wounded Ramswaroop died later at the Guna district hospital. Mahendra Nagar already faces five criminal cases, including rape, loot, and forgery. Not only had Mahendra Nagar encroached forest land and forced villagers to sell their lands to him at throwaway prices, but had even illegally erected electric poles to supply electricity from Guna district of MP to neighbouring Rajasthan. The poles were removed by the local administration on Tuesday.
Farmer brutally murdered, daughters assaulted by BJP leader in MP's Guna over land dispute
BHOPAL: In a horrific incident on Sunday, a 40-year-old farmer was brutally beaten to death, allegedly by local BJP leader Mahendra Nagar and his aides in Ganeshpura village of Madhya Pradesh's Guna district. The farmer, identified as Ramswaroop Dhakad, was first mercilessly beaten with sticks and rods and was then allegedly run over by an MUV on Sunday afternoon. The brutality, reportedly linked to a dispute over six bighas of land in the adjoining Baran district of Rajasthan, did not end there. The accused men, armed with guns, allegedly prevented anyone in the village from taking the gravely injured farmer to the hospital for nearly an hour, ensuring his death. While villagers remained silent spectators out of fear of the gun-toting men accompanying Nagar, the farmer's daughters, who rushed to save him, were also assaulted and humiliated. When I went to save my father, they pushed me down, sat on me, tore my clothes, and fired shots to scare us. My mother and father were going to the fields when Mahendra, Harish, and Gautam attacked them. Then they ran over my father with the Thar. He screamed, but no one dared to help, as the attackers were armed with guns, recounted the murdered farmers daughter. According to locals, Mahendra Nagar the BJPs local booth committee chief and a former office-bearer of the party's farmers wing in Guna district has long run a reign of terror in Ganeshpura village under the Fatehgarh police station area. He has been grabbing land for years. At least 25 farmers have sold their land at throwaway prices and left the village. Those who dared to resist were either assaulted or driven out. Ramswaroop refused to surrender to Nagars terror and held on to his ten bighas of land in Ganeshpura, while his relatives lived in the adjoining Pachlavada village in Rajasthan. That defiance finally cost him his life, a villager said on condition of anonymity. Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOPBamori) Vivek Asthana confirmed the incident and said a long-running land feud between the deceased farmer and a relative of the local BJP leader was the motive behind the brutal murder. Ramswaroop Dhakad had a dispute with Kanhaiya Nagar over six bighas of land in adjoining Rajasthan. Kanhaiya, a resident of Pachlavada, is a relative of Mahendra. It was this long-running land feud that actually triggered Sundays incident. Mahendra, Kanhaiya, and 1314 others, including some women, attacked Ramswaroop. He sustained multiple fractures all over his body. His daughters, too were assaulted. All of them were taken to the Guna district hospital, but doctors could not save Ramswaroop, Asthana said. A case has been registered against 14 persons, including Mahendra Nagar, his sons Nitesh and Devendra, wife Kamlesh Bai Nagar, nephew Jitendra, and two other women from the Nagar family, under multiple BNS sections related to murder, criminal conspiracy, assault, and outraging the modesty of women. One of the accused, Hukum Singh, Mahendras elder brother, has been arrested, while raids are underway to nab the absconding accused. Meanwhile, Guna district BJP president Dharmendra Sikarwar, while confirming Nagars association with the party, has sought his immediate expulsion. Mahendra Nagar is a party worker and the local booth chief. We have written to senior party leaders seeking his immediate removal, Sikarwar said. According to informed sources, Mahendra Nagar was among the Congress workers who joined the BJP in 2020, after Jyotiraditya Scindia and 22 loyalist MLAs quit the party, toppling the Kamal Nath-led government. Guna is one of three districts in the Gwalior-Chambal region that make up the Guna Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Trauma centre in-charge Dr Anurag Dhakad said that 11 patients were being treated in the Neuro ICU when the fire erupted in the storage area. A suspected short circuit is believed to have caused the blaze, he added. The deceased were identified as Pintu (from Sikar), Dilip (from Andhi, Jaipur), Shrinath, Rukmini, Khurma (all from Bharatpur) and Bahadur (from Sanganer, Jaipur), officials stated. Six of them, two women and four men, died in the incident, Dr Dhakad said. Fourteen other patients were admitted in a different ICU, and all were successfully evacuated to safer locations, he added. The fire created chaos in the building, with smoke rapidly spreading throughout the floor and causing panic among patients and their families. Various documents, ICU equipment, blood sample tubes, and other items stored in the area were gutted by the fire. Hospital staff and patient attendants evacuated patients, even transporting them with their beds outside the building. Firefighters arrived shortly after being alerted and brought the fire under control in approximately two hours. When the fire team arrived, the entire ward was engulfed in smoke. The firefighters had to break a window on the opposite side of the building to start extinguishing the fire. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel and Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham visited the trauma centre to take stock of the situation. When Patel and Bedham initially arrived, the attendants of two patients expressed their anguish, alleging that the staff fled during the fire. They also claimed that the hospital staff could not provide updates on their patients' conditions. We noticed smoke and immediately informed the staff, but they did not pay any heed. When the fire broke out, they were the first to run. Now, we cannot get any information about our patients. We want to know their condition, but no one is telling us, one attendee said. Later, the chief minister also arrived at the scene and spoke to the doctors and patients.
JAIPUR: A two-year-old in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, has died after consuming cough syrup , Cipra, from the Chief Minister's free medicine scheme. This is the third child death in the past fortnight linked to the same syrup. Earlier, a two-year-old in Bayana and a five-year-old in Sikar also died. In the latest case from Luhasa village in Bharatpur, two-year-old Tirthraj allegedly died after consuming the cough syrup. His father, Nihal Singh, claims that on September 23rd, when the child had a minor cough and cold, he was taken to the Government Sub-District Hospital, where he was given the cough syrup. When his condition worsened, he was taken back to the hospital. A little later, Tirthraj was referred to Bharatpur and after that to Jaipur. The two-year-old child finally died during treatment at Jaipur's JK Lon Hospital on September 27th. The government had set up a three-member committee to probe the child deaths. However, instead of taking strict action against those responsible, efforts are now underway to clear Caresons Pharma's Dextromethorphan HBR syrup, which is being blamed for the fatalities. The Medical Department, releasing its first report on the case, claimed that doctors did not prescribe the syrup to the deceased children; their families administered the syrup when they fell ill, which improved their health. But subsequently, their condition worsened and they died. This virtually amounts to a clean chit to officials, doctors and the company that supplied the questionable cough syrup. But with a second child death in Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharmas home district of Bharatpur, public anger and the pressure to nab the culprits have intensified.
Five-year-old dies after consuming cough syrup supplied under free medicine scheme in Rajasthan
JAIPUR: A five-year-old child died after consuming a cough syrup supplied under the Rajasthan governments free medicine scheme. The child, Nitish of Khori Brahmanan village in Sikar district, was unwell and down with cold and cough for a few days. Later, his mother brought him medicine available free of cost at Chirana CHC. But after drinking the cough medicine, Nitishs condition worsened and he was declared dead at the local hospital. The family refused to conduct a post-mortem and took the body after informing the police in writing. However, locals say this is not the first case where drinking this cough syrup has created complications. A few days ago, two children in Ajitgarh area reportedly fell ill after consuming the same medicine. ASI Rohitas Kumar Jangid said that Mukesh Sharma's son, Nitish, was given cough medicine from Chirana CHC on Sunday evening. His condition worsened at night, and he was given water. He died on Monday morning while being taken to the hospital. Medical Jurist Dr Ranjit Benda said that the family brought the child to the hospital in an unconscious state, where he was declared dead after examination. According to reports, the child's father runs a hotel in Jharkhand. On receiving information about the incident, he returned to his village. The child's family is currently grieving the death. It is worth noting that recently, the condition of a three-year-old child, the CHC in charge, and two ambulance drivers in Bayana in Bharatpur district had also deteriorated due to the same syrup. When the child was given medicine for cough treatment, his heartbeat increased, and he became unconscious. Following a complaint, the CHC in charge and two drivers consumed the medicine to test its reaction. Subsequently, the condition of these three people worsened, and they had to be admitted to the hospital. Following the incident, a ban was imposed on the distribution of the same batch of the medicine throughout Bharatpur district. Complaints such as vomiting, drowsiness, nervousness, dizziness, restlessness, and unconsciousness have been reported after consuming cough syrup in Bharatpur and Sikar districts. In response, the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation (RMSCL) has banned the sale and use of all 19 batches of the syrup supplied by the manufacturer and sent samples for testing. These alarming incidents in Sikar and Bharatpur have raised a serious question mark over the cough syrup being supplied under the free medicine scheme in Rajasthan.
A 5-year-old boy in Sikar died and several people in Bharatpur fell ill after consuming cough syrup from Rajasthan's free medicine scheme.
