Bikaner student alleges being forced into Russian army, sent to frontline; family urges govt intervention

JAIPUR: A medical student from Bikaner has alleged that he was forced to fight in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The youth, identified as Ajay, son of Mahavir Godara from Arjunsar village in Lunkaransar, had left for Russia in November last year to pursue medical studies. But now he has released a video in which he has made this claim and revealed other details. In the video, Ajay is seen in military fatigues, stating that he was tricked into joining the Russian army and then sent to the frontline. He says that he had gone abroad in search of education and career opportunities but is now trapped in a life-threatening situation. Ajay has alleged that him along with other youths were promised three months of training, but instead, within just four days, they were deployed at the border. We are in Ukraine right now. What they told us is very different from what is happening, he said. He further recounted that missiles fired from the Ukrainian side killed one of his four companions, while two others managed to flee. Ajay claimed that instead of being given kitchen duties, as initially assured, he was pushed into combat zones. According to him, around 15 Indian youths were with him, and four have already lost their lives. Ajay also named other IndiansSandeep, Vijay, and Ankitwhose lives are at risk, and he has appealed to the Indian government to intervene urgently. Following the release of the video, Ajays family has sought immediate action from authorities. His brother has already approached Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi. Lunkaransar MLA and state cabinet minister Sumit Godara has also taken up the issue with Meghwal. Ajays father, Mahavir Godara, expressed deep concern, saying, My son went to Russia on a study visa on 28 November 2024. He was lured into army recruitment with promises of some other job. We have had no contact with him for the past 15 days. I urge the Indian government to bring him back safely. The family confirmed that they have contacted the Ministry of External Affairs but are yet to receive any firm assurance. Congress General Secretary Dr Rajendra Mund has written to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, urging him to take immediate steps for Ajays rescue. According to Ajays family, several other Indian students, including youths from Haryana, who had gone to Russia for higher studies, are also stuck in similar circumstances. They allege that many of them have also been forced to serve at the frontlines of the conflict.

Lawyers strike in Rajasthan over possibility of third High Court bench in Bikaner

JAIPUR: Judicial proceedings across Rajasthan came to a standstill on Friday as lawyers observed a statewide strike against the possible establishment of a third High Court bench in Bikaner. Hearings in the Jaipur and Jodhpur benches, as well as in subordinate courts, remained suspended. The protest was triggered by recent remarks from Union Law Minister and MP from Bikaner, Arjunram Meghwal, who hinted at progress on the issue. Meghwal noted that Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai is expected to visit Bikaner on September 2021, describing the visit as not an ordinary matter he is coming only if some progress has been made. In the same interaction, Meghwal initially responded yes when asked about the possibility of a bench in Bikaner, but immediately changed the subject, saying, We will know only when he comes. The video of his comments went viral on social media, sparking intense debate among the legal fraternity. Reacting to this, representatives of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association (Jaipur), Jodhpur Bar Association, District Advocates Association, and other bar bodies convened an emergency meeting on Thursday. They unanimously resolved to stay away from judicial work for a day in protest. Ramit Pareek, general secretary of the Jaipur High Court Bar Association, said the ministers statement had created confusion and apprehension among lawyers. Association president Ratnaram Tholia cautioned that if the government did not roll back the move, the agitation would intensify. If this decision is not withdrawn, we may even have to consider an indefinite boycott, he warned. According to the advocates, dividing the principal bench would adversely affect judicial efficiency and cause inconvenience to the general public. They urged the government to reconsider the proposal in the interest of both the judiciary and litigants. With Fridays strike followed by the weekend holiday (second Saturday and Sunday), courts are now set to resume normal functioning only from Monday.

IAF to bid farewell to iconic MiG-21 on September 26; Air Chief pays tribute with solo sortie

JAIPUR: The iconic MiG-21 fighter aircraft, once hailed as the pride of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and a trusted guardian of Indias skies for over six decades, is set to retire from operational service on 26 September 2025. Ahead of this historic farewell, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh paid a personal tribute to the jet by flying a solo sortie from the Nal Airbase in Bikaner. The gesture carried deep emotional significance for Singh, who had taken the first operational flight of his career in a MiG-21 back in 1985. The MiG-21 has been the backbone of the Indian Air Force since the 1960s. Fast, agile and simple in design, it holds a special place in the heart of every pilot who has flown it, he said after the flight. According to IAF spokesperson Wing Commander Jaideep Singh, the MiG-21 entered service in 1963, with the No. 28 Squadron based in Chandigarh becoming the first to operate it. As Indias first supersonic fighter, the squadron earned the title The First Supersonics. The MiG-21 went on to script history in multiple wars. It played a key role in the 1965 war and was pivotal in the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, where it executed decisive strikes. On 14 December 1971, MiG-21s bombed the Governor's House in Dhaka, forcing the Governors resignation the next day. Within 48 hours, Pakistan surrendered, and 93,000 Pakistani soldiers laid down arms before the Indian Army. That was a turning point in the war, and the MiG-21s role was historic, the spokesperson said. Wing Commander Jaideep Singh, who has himself flown the aircraft, recalled: From shooting down F-104 Starfighters in 1971 to challenging F-16s in recent years, the MiG-21s legacy is unmatched. It has been flown by generations of Indian pilots. We will miss this iconic fighter deeply. Globally recognised as the longest-serving supersonic jet, the MiG-21 not only provided a shield of security to India but also laid the foundation for many battlefield victories. Its legacy, however, is also marked by tragedy. With technology upgrades lagging over the decades, the aircraft became prone to accidents. According to estimates, the IAF lost more than 200 pilots in nearly 400 MiG-21 crashes. Despite this, the aircraft remains a symbol of courage, resilience, and national pride.

Jaipur traders burn Trump effigy, boycott US products as 50 per cent tariff hits Rs 17,000 crore exports

NEW DELHI: Jaipur traders staged a strong protest against United States President Donald Trumps decision to impose steep additional tariffs on Indian goods in Rajapark's main square. Vendors from the citys main market carried placards condemning the US and Trump, announcing a complete boycott of American products. In a symbolic act, they allegedly burned an effigy of Trump along with US-made goods, even setting fire to US dollar notes. The Trump administrations revised tariff policy has delivered a heavy blow to Rajasthans exporters. The move imposes an immediate 25% duty, with an additional 25% levy on the way, a combined 50% hit on key export sectors like gems and jewellery, handicrafts, and textiles, where Rajasthan holds a dominant share. Ravi Nayyar, President of Rajapark Vyaapar Mandal, said, Jaipurs business organisations have asked all citizens to boycott US products, and we want to give a strong message that because of the arrogance of US President Donald Trump, irrational tariffs have been imposed on us. With 17,000 crore of the states annual exports dependent on the US market, exporters warn this reliance is turning into a liability. Finding new markets will take time, and the immediate risk is to the livelihoods of nearly seven lakh artisans and workers employed in US-focused export units. Industry bodies have urged the government to roll out urgent support measures. Navinit Jhalani, coordinator of the Rajasthan Handicrafts Exporters Joint Forum, said uncertainty has gripped both US buyers and local exporters. We have only 21 days, until 28 August, to ship goods to the US without the additional 25% penalty, he explained. With Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day holidays, meeting this deadline is near impossible. Orders ready after this date are being put on hold by American buyers. US tariffs on Indian oil imports from Russia a 'big blow' to Moscow: Trump Jaipur, Indias gems and jewellery powerhouse, is staring at deep losses. Import duties had already risen from 5.5% to 15.5% earlier this year; the new hike will push many exporters to the brink. Sanjay Kala, former president of the Jewellers Association, said the US accounts for Rs 11,000Rs 12,000 crore of Rajasthans Rs 17,500 crore gems and jewellery exports, most from Jaipur. Around 1.5 lakh people work in this sector in Jaipur, and up to 95% may feel the impact, he warned. Kala noted that while India now faces a 50% tariff, competitors like Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand, and the UAE enjoy lower rates of 1020 per cent, making Indian products uncompetitive. Some manufacturers are already considering shifting production abroad, he said. Jodhpur, a leading exporter of wooden furniture and metal handicrafts, sends Rs 2,500 crore worth of goods to the US annually, more than half its total exports. The tariff hike threatens the livelihood of nearly one lakh artisans and workers. With competitors like Turkey and Mexico facing just 10% tariffs, our products could be priced out of the market, said Dr Bharat Dinesh, president of the Jodhpur Handicraft Exporters Association. The Centre must act fast to safeguard MSMEs and open talks with the US. Trumps 50 per cent tariff threat puts Indias gem and jewellery exports at risk: GJEPC chief Kirit Bhansali Bikaners famed wool industry, with 250 units producing 11.5 lakh kg of yarn daily, faces a severe blow. This yarn is used in carpets exported worldwide, especially to the US via Bhadohi. The 50% tariff threatens to snap this supply chain, impacting about one lakh people directly or indirectly linked to the sector. Udaipurs quartz industry, which supplies 4045% of Rajasthans exports to the US in this category, will suffer as buyers turn to cheaper suppliers in Vietnam, Turkey, and Brazil. The citys marble exporters, already hit by a slowdown, now face uncertainty over shipments worth Rs 100 crore annually. Kota stone and sandstone exports worth Rs 200 crore annually could lose buyers to other markets as US costs rise. The Hadoti regions coriander, dairy products, chemicals, and de-oiled cake exports are also at risk, potentially affecting Rs 250 crore in trade. Rajiv Arora, president of the Federation of Rajasthan Exporters, urged the Centre to expand production-linked incentive schemes and provide targeted relief for affected sectors. If we dont act fast, the economic and social fallout could be severe, he said.

Now reservation charts at 9 pm for next day 5 am-2 pm trains; 8 hours in advance for others

NEW DELHI: The railways will prepare seat reservation charts at 9 pm for trains starting journeys between 5 am and 2 pm the next day, while for the rest, the list will be prepared eight hours in advance. Since 2015, the first reservation charts have been prepared at least four hours before the scheduled departure of the train after the Railway Ministry, for the first time, framed norms in this matter. According to the ministry, the latest change has been made for passenger convenience. For the trains with departure between 05:00 hours and 14:00 hours, the first reservation chart will be prepared preferably by 21:00 of the previous day, the Railway Board directed all zones in a July 2 circular. For the trains with departure between 14:00 and 23:59 and 00:00 and 5:00, the first reservation chart will be prepared preferably eight hours in advance, the circular added. The circular instructed the zones to issue necessary instructions to all concerned accordingly, but did not mention any definite date of its implementation, nor did it mention any change in the preparation of the second reservation chart. Once the chart is ready eight hours before the train's departure, if seats/berths still remain vacant, passengers can book these under current booking facilities. The second chart is prepared 30 minutes to five minutes before the train's departure, and this is mainly for passengers opting for tickets under the current booking, a railway official said. Prior to 2015, there was no fixed time schedule for chart preparation, and zones were following varying norms. The Railway Board decided to standardise it to facilitate passengers to plan their journey well in time, an official said. Asked the reason for increasing the time gap between chart preparation and the train's departure, officials said that although there was no feedback from the passengers to enhance the time gap, it was felt by the ministry to provide more time to passengers to plan their journey. The Railway Board had also run a pilot project in the Bikaner Rail Division for preparing a reservation chart 24 hours in advance, and based on that experience, an eight-hour gap was finalised. If you know eight hours before whether your ticket is confirmed or not, it will remove uncertainty and help you plan your travel properly, officials said, adding that once a ticket is confirmed, passengers will lose a substantial chunk of the ticket amount as a penalty in case of cancellation. According to the cancellation policy, if a confirmed ticket is cancelled between 48 and 12 hours before departure, passengers will get back 25 per cent of the ticket amount. Seats or berths falling vacant due to cancellation will be filled up through the current booking system, an official said.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates Indias largest automobile Gatishakti Cargo Terminal in Manesar

CHANDIGARH: The Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the countrys largest automobile cargo terminal, the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Maruti Suzukis Manesar facility in Haryana. The terminal is expected to significantly enhance freight capacity and industrial logistics. It is connected to Patli railway station via a ten-kilometre dedicated rail corridor, a component of the 121.7-kilometre Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor developed by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC). Vaishnaw noted that 108 Multimodal Cargo terminals are now ready and will soon be in service. Spread over 46 acres inside the MSIL Manesar facility, the railway siding features a fully electrified corridor having four full-length tracks for rakes and one track for engine escape, totalling 8.2 kilometres of track length. The siding also includes a two-floor station building, a dedicated pathway for guards and drivers along the tracks, advanced electronic train interlocking and many more. Models manufactured at MSILs Gurugram and Manesar facilities will be dispatched to 17 hubs from this railway siding serving 380 cities across India. Port locations of Mundra and Pipavav, used by the company for exports, will also be served. The railway siding will have a dispatch capability of 450,000 vehicles at full capacity. Speaking at the inauguration of the railway siding facility at Maruti Plant in Manesar, Haryana, Ashwini Vaishnav said that to upgrade passenger trains, 16 and 20-coach Main Line EMU trains will be manufactured. Till now, MEMUs were manufactured with 8 or 12 coaches. This project will be implemented in a new factory being started in Kazipet, Telangana. This will provide great relief for short-distance travel. The number of Amrit Bharat Express trains will soon increase by six more as 50 more trains are under making. Also, Vande Bharat trains are being extended to new routes, he said. Vaishnav said, NaMo Bharat trains have received a great response from the passengers. Now, 50 new AC passenger trains will be added. Earlier, two trains started between Ahmedabad-Bhuj and Patna-Jaynagar. In total, 150 new passenger trains will come into service. So far, the work of 1300 Amrit Bharat stations has been approved. Out of these, 103 stations have been completed recently, and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated them from Bikaner. Now, 100 more such stations will be completed by December 2025, and 500 more stations will be constructed by 2026. Vaishnaw said that to prevent misuse of bots in Tatkal ticket booking, only KYC-verified passengers will get the facility of online booking from July 1 and an ID will also be mandatory on window booking. He added that India now ranks second in the world in both freight and passenger traffic. Last year, 7.2 billion passengers travelled by rail and 1617 million tonnes of goods were carried. The freight corridor is now fully operational and about 400 freight trains are running on it every day, he said. Vaishnaw further said that the Bikaner Division has started publishing the chart 24 hours in advance (it was four hours in advance, earlier) as an innovative initiative. It reduced uncertainty among the passengers and facilitated them in making better plans. He said that the Indian Railways has witnessed an unprecedented transformation in the last 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that before 2014, Railways remained a victim of neglect for decades, with an annual investment of only Rs 25,000 to 30,000 crores. However, now the investment has increased to Rs 2.5 lakh crores, which is accelerating the development of railway infrastructure and facilities. Vaishnaw said, Legacy problems prevailing in Railways over the years are now being eliminated one by one. Stations, trains, toilets, tracks, cleanliness, technology -- every sector has been improved comprehensively. New facilities are being provided to passengers and integrated development is being given priority in collaboration with the industry. Haryana Chief Minister Nayan Singh Saini highlighted that today, Haryana has become one of Indias leading automobile manufacturing hubs, producing nearly 50 per cent of all cars made in the country. The development of an internal railway yard by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation at Maruti underscores the States commitment to 'Ease of Doing Business' and infrastructure development, he said. Reaffirming the vision to emerge as a logistics hub, the State has partnered with various industry bodies and educational institutions to enhance workforce skills across Haryana, he added. Saini said that the project is an outstanding example of Prime Minister Narendra Modis visionary Gati Shakti initiative more than a scheme, it represents a revolution and a commitment to transform Indias approach to infrastructure development. He further shared that the PM Gati Shakti platform brings together key sectors such as railways, roads, ports, airports, waterways, and logistics under one integrated vision. The railway siding at Maruti Suzuki is an example of it, allowing cars manufactured at the plant to be directly loaded onto cargo trains and shipped to destinations across India. Speaking on the occasion, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, The project underscores our strong commitment to Indias Net Zero emissions target 2070. It will contribute to avoiding 175,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, saving 60 million litres of fuel annually at full capacity, and reducing road congestion. Lowering carbon emissions remains a top priority at Maruti Suzuki, and we aim to achieve this by increasing the share of vehicle dispatches through railways to 35 per cent by FY 2030-31.

Political slugfest erupts in Rajasthan after 9,350 goats sent to Gulf for Eid

JAIPUR: A fresh controversy has erupted in Rajasthan just around the occasion of Eid ul Azha (Bakrid), as 9,350 goats have been exported from the state to Gulf countries via air cargo a first for the desert state. Goats, belonging to the Shekhawati, Sirohi, and Bikaneri breeds, have been sent for ritual sacrifice, triggering a heated political exchange between the ruling BJP and the Opposition. Animal Husbandry and Devasthan Minister Zoraram Kumawat expressed concern over the export. Eid ul Azha may be important for any religion, but in our culture, animal sacrifice is not acceptable. These animals are not just livestock; they are a source of livelihood for breeders and contribute to Rajasthans GDP, Kumawat said. When asked if the government plans to restrict goat sacrifice during Bakrid, the minister clarified, There is no such plan at the moment. But killing animals is wrong. His remarks invited a sharp rebuttal from Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, who accused the BJP of communal bias and double standards. The BJP only sees goats during Bakrid but remains silent on cow protection and beef exports. India is the worlds top beef exporter today, but BJP leaders dont talk about that, the Congress leader said. Taking a jibe at Kumawat, Jully added, The minister is a good man, but he has been misinformed. If he had seen the actual data, he wouldnt have made such a statement. The Leader of Opposition also alleged that the BJP is once again trying to stoke religious sentiments. They use cows and goats as tools to divide communities. First ban beef exports, then talk about goats, he said. The issue has quickly gained traction on social media, with religious and cultural organisations weighing in. Some criticized the government for allowing the export, while others condemned the political narrative being built around the festival. Each of the cargo flights to the Gulf transported between 450 and 950 goats, with individual shipments weighing between 500 kg to 15,000 kg. The first consignment departed on May 1, marking the beginning of this years export activities. The increasing frequency of direct flights from Jaipur to Gulf destinations is positioning the city as a pivotal hub for the export of sacrificial goats. Four sanitation workers die in Jaipur jewellery shops septic tank while recovering gold residue

Two other workers remain in critical condition at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, while two were discharged after receiving first aid.JAIPUR: Four sanitation workers were suffocated to death in Jaipur after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a septic tank at Achal Jewels Private Limited in the Sitapura Industrial Area on Monday night. Two other workers remain in critical condition at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, while two were discharged after receiving first aid. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm in the Jewellery Zone known as G-Block of Sitapura, under the Sanganer Sadar police station limits. The workers had descended into a 10-foot-deep septic tank when they were overcome by toxic fumes. According to reports, the real cause of the tragedy appears to be linked to the alleged negligence and greed of the company management. Earlier that afternoon, workers had refused to enter the tank, citing intense heat and the presence of poisonous gases caused by chemical-laden water. However, after pressure from supervisors and promises of extra money, several workers agreed to proceed with the cleaning. Amit Pal and Rohit Pal were the first to enter the tank at around 8 pm. After some time, both lost consciousness and called for help. In an attempt to rescue them, six more workersincluding Sanjeev Pal and Mukeshentered the tank, but all of them also fainted and were rushed to the hospital. Doctors at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital declared Sanjeev Pal, Himanshu Singh, Rohit Pal (all residents of Ambedkar Nagar in UP), and Arpit Yadav of Sultanpur dead. Ajay Chauhan and Rajpal are currently undergoing treatment, while Amit Pal and Surajpal were discharged after first aid. Sanganer Sadar Circle Inspector Anil Jaiman said the police received the information through control room calls and promptly reached the scene. Four workers were declared dead at the hospital, two are in critical condition, and two were discharged after initial treatment, he confirmed. The Police probe has revealed that the workers were initially reluctant to undertake the work, but agreed to do it after they were offered extra money to remove sludge for the recovery of lost gold and silver particles. In the process of making jewellery, fine particles of gold and silver often get lodged in septic tanks during the chemical washing process. Gradually, solid sludge containing residues of these precious metals settles at the bottom and most factories normally recover these by employing sanitation workers. Forensic teams have been sent to the site to help with the formal probe on this case. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot sharply criticized the state governments handling of sanitation worker safety. Posting on his social media account X, Gehlot wrote, In the last 10 days, 11 people have died while cleaning septic tanks and drains in Deeg, Bikaner, and now Jaipur. It appears the government is ignoring the plight of sanitation workers. Although the budget promised machines to replace manual cleaning, this commitment remains only on paper. When will the government wake up from its slumber?

413 drone attacks on Rajasthan during Operation Sindoor, all neutralised: BSF IG

During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan launched 413 drone attacks targeting Rajasthan's Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar districts. BSF Inspector General ML Garg reported that India's air defense system successfully neutralised all threats mid-air, preventing any damage to military or civilian infrastructure. Despite some minor structural damage to houses, there were no civilian casualties.

413 Pakistani drone attacks foiled on Western Border after Operation Sindoor, says BSF IG Garg

JAIPUR:In retaliation for Operation Sindoor launched by the Indian Armed Forces, Pakistan launched 413 drones and several Chinese-made missiles into Indian territory along the western border, but all efforts were thwarted by India's robust air defence system. India displayed its defence prowess as the BSF, Army and Air Force successfully foiled each threat and not a single Indian soldier was harmed, thanks to the efficient performance of India's air defence system. Addressing a press conference in Jodhpur on Monday, BSF Rajasthan Frontier IG MGarg said Pakistan had launched the attack with full preparation and tried to target several sensitive locations, including the Phalodi airbase in Rajasthan, but all efforts were neutralised. Not only did it (Pak) send drones and missiles, but also moved Army units and tanks close to the border. However, Indian forces were already on high alert to deal with the offensive, he said. IG Garg revealed that Pakistan carried out a total of 413 drone attacks across the border districts of Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sriganganagar. All drones were intercepted and shot down mid-air by Indias air defence system, he stated. The Indian forces responded with precise timing and wherever necessary. Thanks to this timely response and prior preparedness using modern technology, not a single civilian casualty was reported along the western border. While a wall of someones house collapsed and another house suffered minor damage, the overall impact was minimal due to our advance planning and use of cutting-edge resources, he added. The IG also confirmed that Pakistans missiles were armed and potentially lethal, but none succeeded in breaching Indian territory. Before they could touch Indian soil, our anti-missile systems destroyed them mid-air. What landed on the ground was only debris or empty shells, he clarified. Responding to questions about developments across the border during Operation Sindoor, IG Garg said, Pakistan had deployed its army along its side of the border, but our soldiers did not retreat even an inch. Both countries have now announced a ceasefire, but Operation Sindoor has not ended it has only been temporarily suspended. He emphasized that the BSF remains fully prepared for ground combat. BSF has always been at the frontline. Even during Operation Sindoor, while Pakistan evacuated many villages, we didnt need to evacuate even one. Our jawans stood firm, and so did the people of our border villages shoulder to shoulder with the nation. Highlighting the role of women in the forces, IG Garg praised the women personnel of BSFs Seema Bhavani unit. Everyone was ready to help each other. The courage and commitment displayed by our women soldiers proved that India's women's power is second to none. They stood guard on the border with the same passion and bravery as the men, 24 hours a day. Their dedication is truly commendable.

Operation Sindoor not just miltary mission, but reflection of changing India: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that Operation Sindoor was not just a military mission, but he face of a changing India that reflects the country's resolve, courage, and growing strength on the global stage. Addressing the nation through his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said, Today the entire country is united against terrorism, filled with anger and determination.' Modi hailed Operation Sindoor as a turning point in the global fight against terror, describing it as a symbol of India's growing strength and clarity of purpose. Operation Sindoor has infused new confidence and energy into the global fight against terrorism, he said. He lauded as extraordinary the precision with which Indian forces attacked the terrorist infrastructure across the border. Modi emphasised that the operation was not a one-off military action, but a reflection of a changing and resolute India. Operation Sindoor is the picture of our resolve, courage, and a changing India, he said, and delved on the impact of the operation that resonated deeply across the country. The operation's success was followed by a series of gestures in tribute to the armed forces, ranging from patriotic poems on social media to paintings by children and massive Tiranga Yatras. In many cities, youth volunteered for civil defence, wrote poems, sang songs of resolve, and children made paintings carrying powerful messages, Modi said. He talked about a recent visit to Bikaner where he was gifted paintings made by children. In cities like Katihar and Kushinagar, families named their newborns 'Sindoor' in honour of the operation, he said. The PM credited India's home-grown defence capabilities for the mission's success, following the spirit of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. This was the ultimate bravery of our soldiers, backed by the power of weapons, equipment, and technology made in India, he said. Modi noted a renewed energy across the country towards the 'Vocal for Local' campaign post-Operation Sindoor, saying the mission had not just inspired patriotism but also strengthened the spirit of self-reliance. This victory carries the sweat of our engineers, technicians, and every citizen who contributed, he said.

Mysore Pak to Mysore Shri: Jaipur shops rename sweets, cite nationalism; critics call out linguistic ignorance

JAIPUR: In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, several sweet shop owners in Jaipur have begun replacing the word 'Pak' with 'Shri' while referring to traditional Indian sweets, citing nationalist sentiments and customer discomfort. Sweets such as Moti Pak, Aam Pak, Gond Pak, and the iconic Mysore Paklong staples in Jaipurs confectioneriesare now being rebranded as Moti Shri, Aam Shri, Gond Shri, and Mysore Shri. The move, which has drawn both support and ridicule on social media, is being seen by some as a symbolic gesture of patriotism to shun any mention of Pakistan - as the use of Pak suggests the hostile neighbour in the imagination of many. According to shopkeepers, the decision was prompted by repeated customer feedback. People didnt like hearing Pak anymore. They would associate itjokingly or seriouslywith Pakistan, so we decided to change it, said one sweet shop owner from Johari Bazaar. Mohit Jain, who runs a popular sweet shop near the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, echoed the sentiment. Every day, customers would ask us to change the name. They no longer felt comfortable hearing Pak. So we brainstormed with the team and decided to give the sweets a more Indian identity, he said. Weve now renamed Bikaneri Moti Pak to Bikaneri Moti Shri, Chandi Bhasm Pak to Chandi Bhasm Shri, and Swarn Bhasm Pak to Swarn Bhasm Shri. Customers are appreciating the change and linking it to patriotic sentiments. Prateek Agarwal, a shop owner in Shastri Nagar, said he plans to follow suit. When you hear Shri in the name, it gives a sense of satisfaction that something has changed, he remarked. However, not everyone agrees with the curious logic behind the change. Language experts and food historians have pointed out that the word Pak has no connection with Pakistan or Urdu. The term Pak in these sweets originates from Pak-Shastra, the ancient Sanskrit word for culinary science. It simply means cooked or a cooked preparation, explained a Jaipur-based Sanskrit scholar. In the case of Mysore Pak, experts say the word Pak comes from Kannada, where it refers to a syrupy sweet or cooked sugar preparation - again unrelated to any geopolitical connotation. The renaming of these traditional sweets has sparked a larger conversation about the growing influence of symbolic nationalism and cultural reinterpretation. While some see the change as a harmless expression of patriotism, others warn that it risks distorting Indias diverse linguistic and culinary heritage.

Every drop of Indian blood will be avenged: PM Modi warns Pakistan

JAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed Pakistan for using terrorism as a weapon against India on Thursday and asserted that the hostile neighbour and its economy will have to pay a heavy price for every terrorist attack in future. Addressing his first public meeting in Rajasthan after Operation Sindoor , PM Modi spoke at length about the strikes carried out by India's armed forces in Pakistan on May 7 following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22. Speaking to a large gathering during the inauguration of various development projects in Bikaner district, PM Modi declared that Pakistan will not get a drop of water from rivers over which India has rights and claimed there was no scope for talks with Pakistan. At the meeting in Palana, about 20 km from Bikaner on the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan, the Prime Minister said, Pakistan will now onwards have to pay a heavy price for every terrorist attack ...Pakistans army will pay it, Pakistans economy will pay it. PM Modi said Operation Sindoor was the embodiment of a new India that will strike forcefully and fearlessly at the heart of terror. Launching a scathing attack on Pakistan, PM Modi vowed a firm response to any hostile action from the neighbouring country. In his 40-minute speech, Modi sent a strong message: Every drop of Indian blood will be avenged. Those who play with the lives of Indians will not be spared, he declared. India is no longer afraid of nuclear threats. Those who shed Indian blood will pay dearly for every drop, asserted PM Modi. Earlier on Thursday morning, the Prime Minister inaugurated 103 redeveloped railway stations across the country from Deshnok, near the Pakistan border. He also flagged off the Bikaner-Bandra train and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth Rs 26,000 crore. Modi arrived at Nal Airbase in Bikaner and proceeded to the Karni Mata temple to offer prayers. From there, he reached Palana to address the public gathering. Referring to the recent Pahalgam attack, Modi said, On the 22nd, India eliminated nine major terrorist hideouts within 22 minutes. The world has now seen what happens when sindoor (vermilion) turns into gunpowder. Drawing a historical parallel, Modi recalled the 2019 Balakot airstrikes. After the Balakot operation, my first public rally was held in Rajasthan. Once again, history repeats itself. After Operation Sindoor, I am addressing the people from Veerbhoomi (land of the brave), he said. There will be no trade, no talks with Pakistan. If there is any conversation, it will be only about Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, he declared. Outlining the principles behind Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister said, First, any terrorist attack on India will receive a befitting reply, on our terms. Thevl tme, method, and conditions will be chosen by our forces. Second, India will not be intimidated by nuclear threats. Third, we will not differentiate between terrorist organizations and the governments that support them they will be treated as one. Modi further said, Pakistan knows it cannot win a conventional war against India. Thats why it has weaponised terrorism. But it has forgotten that Modi, the servant of Mother India, stands firm with a proud chest. My mind remains calm, but my blood is hot. It is no longer blood, but burning sindoor flowing through my veins. The Prime Ministers fiery speech comes amid heightened national security concerns and rising tensions along the border. His message in Bikaner was loud and clear India will not tolerate terrorism and will retaliate with full force.

PM Modi unveils 18 modernised railway stations under Amrit Bharat plan in Gujarat

ALLAHABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually inaugurated 18 redeveloped railway stations in Gujarat, marking a major milestone under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Under the scheme, over 1,300 stations across India are being transformed into modern transit hubs. The 18 stations, revamped at a combined cost of Rs 164 crore, are part of a sweeping overhaul of 87 railway stations across the state, with a total investment of Rs 6,303 crore. Driving this infrastructure push is Gujarats nearly complete railway electrification, with 97 per cent of its routes now electrified, positioning the state as a frontrunner in rail modernisation. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who presided over the inauguration of the redeveloped Limbdi station, hailed the Prime Ministers leadership for catalysing a new era in Indias transport landscape. Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, infrastructure development has been a national priority - not just for citizens, but also for our armed forces. The modernisation of railways reflects his bold vision and unwavering commitment to nation-building, said CM Patel. The 18 newly inaugurated stations in Gujarat include Shihor Junction, Utran, Dakor, Derol, Hapa, Jamjodhpur, Jamwanthali, Kanalus Junction, Karamsad, Kosamba Junction, Limbdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Rajula Junction, and Samakhiali. Each has been upgraded with cutting-edge amenities, improved connectivity, and enhanced passenger comfort - transforming them into modern gateways for millions. Railway Minister Vaishnaw says redevelopment of 500 more stations to be completed by 2027 Underscoring Gujarats rapid infrastructure advancement, the Chief Minister revealed that since 2014, the state has electrified 3,144 kilometres of railway lines, pushing total electrification to 97 per cent - a figure that outpaces national averages. This is the result of development-driven governance, where intent meets execution, he asserted. The CM also spotlighted the Rs 17,155 crore allocation for Gujarat in the 2025-26 railway budget, calling it a seismic jump - 29 times higher than the average allocation between 2009 and 2014. Gujarat today runs four Vande Bharat trains, connecting key routes with unmatched speed and comfort, said Patel. Whether its the daily commuter or the global traveller headed to the Statue of Unity Ekta Nagar, railway services are being reimagined to serve every segment. As part of the nationwide rollout, PM Modi also unveiled 103 redeveloped stations under the Amrit Bharat Yojana from Bikaner. Simultaneously, Chief Minister Patel toured the newly revamped Limbdi station, receiving a detailed briefing on its upgraded infrastructure and world-class amenities. These redeveloped stations are not just buildings - they are symbols of a new India on the move, the CM concluded. Sindoor turned into 'barood', destroyed nine terror hideouts in 22 minutes: PM Modi

Railway Minister Vaishnaw says redevelopment of 500 more stations to be completed by 2027

NEW DELHI: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the driving force behind the remarkable transformation of Indian Railways over the past 11 years. Speaking at the dedication ceremony of 103 Amrit Bharat stations to the nation in Bikaner, Rajasthan, Vaishnaw said, In the last 11 years our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has done unprecedented reforms in the basic structure of the railway. More than 34,000 km of rail tracks has been made in these 11 years. The Railway Minister described the laying of new rail tracks during this period as a record-breaking feat, surpassing even what a developed nation like Germany had achieved. More tracks have been laid down in India in these 11 years than in the entire Germany, he said. Under the constant monitoring and visionary leadership of the Prime Minister, India has electrified 47,000 rkm, he claimed, adding that the Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, and Amrit Bharat series of trains represent the new generation of railway vehicles. He further said that Indian Railways has also undertaken the conversion of old ICF coaches to LHB coaches in mission mode, resulting in the creation of 42,000 new LHB coaches over the past 11 years. Sindoor turned into 'barood', destroyed nine terror hideouts in 22 minutes: PM Modi The minister highlighted that numerous initiatives have been launched under the Prime Ministers leadership to elevate Indian Railways to world-class standards in both amenities and services, with an emphasis on safety and comfort. With all these efforts, the Railways have become a good means for the poor and middle-class families of our country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has initiated huge works for reforms in railway reforms and new construction of stations. For the first time after independence, for the first time a government has paid attention to the railway by a Prime Minister and he is PM Narendra Mod ji, he said. Vaishnaw also mentioned that PM Modi had laid the foundation stones for 1,062 stations in August 2023 and 2024 simultaneously. And you all know how Modi ji's way of working, Modi ji also keeps the foundation and Modi ji also does the inauguration. So in this big programme, today 103 stations are being inaugurated simultaneously in the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said during his address. He informed the public that following the inauguration of these stations, another 100 will be ready for inauguration within the next eight months as part of the Amrit Bharat scheme. The people are watching that work is going on with tremendous speed at the station and all over the country. By 2027, the work of 500 stations will be completed with new construction, the Railway Minister announced. He praised the Prime Minister for providing such inspirational leadership to Indian Railways, which, according to him, is continuously setting new records in development.

Sindoor turned into 'barood', destroyed nine terror hideouts in 22 minutes: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that the country's enemies have learnt what happens when 'sindoor' becomes gunpowder and lauded India's armed forces for creating such a trap that Pakistan was forced to go down on its knees. In his first public address in Rajasthan after Operation Sindoor that was launched in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, the prime minister slammed Pakistan, and said in response to the attack on April 22, we destroyed nine biggest terror hideouts in 22 minutes. The world and the enemies of the country have seen what happens when sindoor turns into 'barood' (gunpowder), he said. Not blood but sindoor runs in my veins, the prime minister said amid applause from the audience. Modi said India is not going to be scared by nuclear threats and if there is a terrorist attack on the country then it will give a befitting reply. The time and methods will be decided by our armed forces, he said addressing a public meeting in Palana in Bikaner. Our government gave free hand to all three armed forces. Together they created such a trap that Pakistan was forced to go down on its knees, the prime minister said. Noting that Pakistan had tried to target the Nal air base in Bikaner but could not cause any damage to it, Modi said ut, no one knows when Pakistan's Rahimyar Khan air base will open again. It is in ICU. The attack has destroyed it. Pakistan can never win a direct fight against India. Whenever there is a direct flight, Pakistan has to face defeat again and again. That is why Pakistan has made terrorism a weapon to fight against India, he said. The prime minister also asserted that there will be no talks with Pakistan. There will be neither trade nor talks with Pakistan; if talks, then only about Pakistan occupied Kashmir, he said. India carried out precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on terror infrastructure early on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Following the Indian action, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10. The Indian forces launched a fierce counter-attack on several Pakistani military installations. India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the military confrontation after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.

PM Modi launches 103 Amrit Bharat stations, says they 'boost comfort, connectivity and celebrate our culture'

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated 103 redeveloped railway stations as Amrit Bharat Stations, with the highest number of 19 Amrit Bharat stations located in the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. Speaking from Bikaner in Rajasthan, the Prime Minister hailed 22 May as a landmark day for Indias railway infrastructure, celebrating the inauguration of these modernised stations. The Amrit Stations will boost comfort, connectivity and celebrate our glorious culture also, said PM Modi. Addressing the gathering in Bikaner, he said that the launch of various projects aims to enhance rail infrastructure, connectivity, as well as water and energy sectors. By these projects, Indias motto for Viksit Bharat is being strengthened. We have worked at unprecedented pace for modernisation of infrastructure in all sectors including Railway in the last 11 years, the Prime Minister asserted. He added that the Indian Railways, through modern trains, is modernising its services and accelerating development. He noted that Vande Bharat trains are now operating on 70 routes across the country. Over the past 11 years, hundreds of over bridges and underpasses have been constructed, and more than 34,000 kilometres of new railway tracks have been laid. The Prime Minister also highlighted rapid progress on freight corridors and India's first bullet train project, while stating that 1,300 railway stations are being rebuilt as modern Amrit Bharat stations. Vikas bhi virasat bhi ye mantra saf saf dikhayi de raha Amrit Bharat stations par (Development and culture together are being reflected at Amrit Bharat stations), Modi said. Emphasising the objectives of the Amrit Bharat scheme, he noted that the stations reflect Indias rich cultural and traditional heritage spanning over 1,000 years, while simultaneously showcasing the nation's growth. According to an official source, Gujarat follows Uttar Pradesh with 19 Amrit Bharat stations inaugurated, while Maharashtra accounts for 15. Other states include Tamil Nadu (9), Rajasthan (8), Madhya Pradesh (6), Karnataka and Chhattisgarh (5 each), Jharkhand and Telangana (3 each), in addition to several states and union territories with 1 or 2 stations each. To mark the dedication of these redeveloped stations, cultural performances reflecting local traditions were held at various locations. For instance, St. Thomas Mount station in Tamil Nadu and Surulupa station in Andhra Pradesh hosted rhythmic tributes celebrating transformation. Apart from dedicating the Amrit Bharat stations, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the ChuruSadulpur rail line (58 km), and inaugurated several electrified lines: SuratgarhPhalodi (336 km), PhuleraHimmatnagar (210 km), PhalodiJaisalmer (157 km), and SamdariBarmer (129 km). These and other infrastructure projects amount to a total investment of Rs 26,000 crore in Rajasthan. At many of the newly redeveloped Amrit Bharat stations, school children participated in the celebrations and expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for the beautiful transformation. At the Seoni station in Madhya Pradesh, themed around The Jungle Book, children gathered in large numbers to view displays of characters like Mowgli and took selfies with them.
