Now reservation charts at 9 pm for next day 5 am-2 pm trains; 8 hours in advance for others

NEW DELHI: The railways will prepare seat reservation charts at 9 pm for trains starting journeys between 5 am and 2 pm the next day, while for the rest, the list will be prepared eight hours in advance. Since 2015, the first reservation charts have been prepared at least four hours before the scheduled departure of the train after the Railway Ministry, for the first time, framed norms in this matter. According to the ministry, the latest change has been made for passenger convenience. For the trains with departure between 05:00 hours and 14:00 hours, the first reservation chart will be prepared preferably by 21:00 of the previous day, the Railway Board directed all zones in a July 2 circular. For the trains with departure between 14:00 and 23:59 and 00:00 and 5:00, the first reservation chart will be prepared preferably eight hours in advance, the circular added. The circular instructed the zones to issue necessary instructions to all concerned accordingly, but did not mention any definite date of its implementation, nor did it mention any change in the preparation of the second reservation chart. Once the chart is ready eight hours before the train's departure, if seats/berths still remain vacant, passengers can book these under current booking facilities. The second chart is prepared 30 minutes to five minutes before the train's departure, and this is mainly for passengers opting for tickets under the current booking, a railway official said. Prior to 2015, there was no fixed time schedule for chart preparation, and zones were following varying norms. The Railway Board decided to standardise it to facilitate passengers to plan their journey well in time, an official said. Asked the reason for increasing the time gap between chart preparation and the train's departure, officials said that although there was no feedback from the passengers to enhance the time gap, it was felt by the ministry to provide more time to passengers to plan their journey. The Railway Board had also run a pilot project in the Bikaner Rail Division for preparing a reservation chart 24 hours in advance, and based on that experience, an eight-hour gap was finalised. If you know eight hours before whether your ticket is confirmed or not, it will remove uncertainty and help you plan your travel properly, officials said, adding that once a ticket is confirmed, passengers will lose a substantial chunk of the ticket amount as a penalty in case of cancellation. According to the cancellation policy, if a confirmed ticket is cancelled between 48 and 12 hours before departure, passengers will get back 25 per cent of the ticket amount. Seats or berths falling vacant due to cancellation will be filled up through the current booking system, an official said.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates Indias largest automobile Gatishakti Cargo Terminal in Manesar

CHANDIGARH: The Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the countrys largest automobile cargo terminal, the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Maruti Suzukis Manesar facility in Haryana. The terminal is expected to significantly enhance freight capacity and industrial logistics. It is connected to Patli railway station via a ten-kilometre dedicated rail corridor, a component of the 121.7-kilometre Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor developed by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC). Vaishnaw noted that 108 Multimodal Cargo terminals are now ready and will soon be in service. Spread over 46 acres inside the MSIL Manesar facility, the railway siding features a fully electrified corridor having four full-length tracks for rakes and one track for engine escape, totalling 8.2 kilometres of track length. The siding also includes a two-floor station building, a dedicated pathway for guards and drivers along the tracks, advanced electronic train interlocking and many more. Models manufactured at MSILs Gurugram and Manesar facilities will be dispatched to 17 hubs from this railway siding serving 380 cities across India. Port locations of Mundra and Pipavav, used by the company for exports, will also be served. The railway siding will have a dispatch capability of 450,000 vehicles at full capacity. Speaking at the inauguration of the railway siding facility at Maruti Plant in Manesar, Haryana, Ashwini Vaishnav said that to upgrade passenger trains, 16 and 20-coach Main Line EMU trains will be manufactured. Till now, MEMUs were manufactured with 8 or 12 coaches. This project will be implemented in a new factory being started in Kazipet, Telangana. This will provide great relief for short-distance travel. The number of Amrit Bharat Express trains will soon increase by six more as 50 more trains are under making. Also, Vande Bharat trains are being extended to new routes, he said. Vaishnav said, NaMo Bharat trains have received a great response from the passengers. Now, 50 new AC passenger trains will be added. Earlier, two trains started between Ahmedabad-Bhuj and Patna-Jaynagar. In total, 150 new passenger trains will come into service. So far, the work of 1300 Amrit Bharat stations has been approved. Out of these, 103 stations have been completed recently, and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated them from Bikaner. Now, 100 more such stations will be completed by December 2025, and 500 more stations will be constructed by 2026. Vaishnaw said that to prevent misuse of bots in Tatkal ticket booking, only KYC-verified passengers will get the facility of online booking from July 1 and an ID will also be mandatory on window booking. He added that India now ranks second in the world in both freight and passenger traffic. Last year, 7.2 billion passengers travelled by rail and 1617 million tonnes of goods were carried. The freight corridor is now fully operational and about 400 freight trains are running on it every day, he said. Vaishnaw further said that the Bikaner Division has started publishing the chart 24 hours in advance (it was four hours in advance, earlier) as an innovative initiative. It reduced uncertainty among the passengers and facilitated them in making better plans. He said that the Indian Railways has witnessed an unprecedented transformation in the last 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that before 2014, Railways remained a victim of neglect for decades, with an annual investment of only Rs 25,000 to 30,000 crores. However, now the investment has increased to Rs 2.5 lakh crores, which is accelerating the development of railway infrastructure and facilities. Vaishnaw said, Legacy problems prevailing in Railways over the years are now being eliminated one by one. Stations, trains, toilets, tracks, cleanliness, technology -- every sector has been improved comprehensively. New facilities are being provided to passengers and integrated development is being given priority in collaboration with the industry. Haryana Chief Minister Nayan Singh Saini highlighted that today, Haryana has become one of Indias leading automobile manufacturing hubs, producing nearly 50 per cent of all cars made in the country. The development of an internal railway yard by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation at Maruti underscores the States commitment to 'Ease of Doing Business' and infrastructure development, he said. Reaffirming the vision to emerge as a logistics hub, the State has partnered with various industry bodies and educational institutions to enhance workforce skills across Haryana, he added. Saini said that the project is an outstanding example of Prime Minister Narendra Modis visionary Gati Shakti initiative more than a scheme, it represents a revolution and a commitment to transform Indias approach to infrastructure development. He further shared that the PM Gati Shakti platform brings together key sectors such as railways, roads, ports, airports, waterways, and logistics under one integrated vision. The railway siding at Maruti Suzuki is an example of it, allowing cars manufactured at the plant to be directly loaded onto cargo trains and shipped to destinations across India. Speaking on the occasion, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, The project underscores our strong commitment to Indias Net Zero emissions target 2070. It will contribute to avoiding 175,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, saving 60 million litres of fuel annually at full capacity, and reducing road congestion. Lowering carbon emissions remains a top priority at Maruti Suzuki, and we aim to achieve this by increasing the share of vehicle dispatches through railways to 35 per cent by FY 2030-31.

Air India flight crash: Doctor couple and their three kids, newly-married woman among dead

JAIPUR: The horrific Ahmedabad plane crash brought grief to Rajasthan as 11 passengers from the state were confirmed to be among the dead. Five of them were residents of Banswara, four were from Udaipur, one woman was from Balotra, and another was from Bikaner's Sridungargarh. Shockingly, five of the victims were children. One of the most heart-wrenching stories was of an entire family originally from Banswara. Dr Pratik Joshi and Dr Kamini Joshi, both formerly associated with the Udaipur Medical College, were traveling to London with their three children when the crash occurred. Dr Pratik had shifted to London in 2016, while Dr Kamini was reportedly planning to resign from the college and join him abroad. Their three kids included twin sons, Nakul and Pradyut. The accident has devastated both their families in Banswara and Dr Kamini's colleagues at the Udaipur medical college. Miracle survivor, 59 seconds of horror and Mayday call: What we know so far about Air India crash Another victim, 24-year-old Khushboo Kanwar, hailed from Araba Dudawata village in Balotra district. Married only in January this year, she was traveling to London for the first time to join her husband, Dr Vipul Singh Rajpurohit, who works there. Her sudden demise has plunged the entire village in shock and mourning. Four passengers from Udaipur district were also among the dead. These include Varardi Chandra Menaria from Rudera village and Prakash Chand Menaria from Rohida village. Both worked as cooks in London and were traveling back together. Varardi Chandra had returned from London a month ago, and this trip was to return to his job. His wife and son Deepak had accompanied him to Ahmedabad to see him off. Shagun Modi and Shubh Modi, children of local marble businessman Pinku Modi, were also from Udaipur. Both were studying in London. Udaipur District Collector Namit Mehta visited their residence in Saheli Nagar to offer his condolences. Their relative Sanjeev Modi immediately left for Ahmedabad upon hearing of the tragedy. In Bikaner's Sridungargarh, another tragic tale unfolded with news of the death of Shiv Parihar, grandson of former MLA Kishna Ram Nai. Shiv, who was running a business in London, had recently helped his father Abhinav Parihar to open a trading office in Ahmedabad just five days ago. He was heading to London to bring his wife and child back so they could settle down permanently in India. Air India crash in Ahmedabad is the worst involving a single aircraft in India

Political slugfest erupts in Rajasthan after 9,350 goats sent to Gulf for Eid

JAIPUR: A fresh controversy has erupted in Rajasthan just around the occasion of Eid ul Azha (Bakrid), as 9,350 goats have been exported from the state to Gulf countries via air cargo a first for the desert state. Goats, belonging to the Shekhawati, Sirohi, and Bikaneri breeds, have been sent for ritual sacrifice, triggering a heated political exchange between the ruling BJP and the Opposition. Animal Husbandry and Devasthan Minister Zoraram Kumawat expressed concern over the export. Eid ul Azha may be important for any religion, but in our culture, animal sacrifice is not acceptable. These animals are not just livestock; they are a source of livelihood for breeders and contribute to Rajasthans GDP, Kumawat said. When asked if the government plans to restrict goat sacrifice during Bakrid, the minister clarified, There is no such plan at the moment. But killing animals is wrong. His remarks invited a sharp rebuttal from Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, who accused the BJP of communal bias and double standards. The BJP only sees goats during Bakrid but remains silent on cow protection and beef exports. India is the worlds top beef exporter today, but BJP leaders dont talk about that, the Congress leader said. Taking a jibe at Kumawat, Jully added, The minister is a good man, but he has been misinformed. If he had seen the actual data, he wouldnt have made such a statement. The Leader of Opposition also alleged that the BJP is once again trying to stoke religious sentiments. They use cows and goats as tools to divide communities. First ban beef exports, then talk about goats, he said. The issue has quickly gained traction on social media, with religious and cultural organisations weighing in. Some criticized the government for allowing the export, while others condemned the political narrative being built around the festival. Each of the cargo flights to the Gulf transported between 450 and 950 goats, with individual shipments weighing between 500 kg to 15,000 kg. The first consignment departed on May 1, marking the beginning of this years export activities. The increasing frequency of direct flights from Jaipur to Gulf destinations is positioning the city as a pivotal hub for the export of sacrificial goats. 413 drone attacks on Rajasthan during Operation Sindoor, all neutralised: BSF IG

During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan launched 413 drone attacks targeting Rajasthan's Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar districts. BSF Inspector General ML Garg reported that India's air defense system successfully neutralised all threats mid-air, preventing any damage to military or civilian infrastructure. Despite some minor structural damage to houses, there were no civilian casualties.

413 Pakistani drone attacks foiled on Western Border after Operation Sindoor, says BSF IG Garg

JAIPUR:In retaliation for Operation Sindoor launched by the Indian Armed Forces, Pakistan launched 413 drones and several Chinese-made missiles into Indian territory along the western border, but all efforts were thwarted by India's robust air defence system. India displayed its defence prowess as the BSF, Army and Air Force successfully foiled each threat and not a single Indian soldier was harmed, thanks to the efficient performance of India's air defence system. Addressing a press conference in Jodhpur on Monday, BSF Rajasthan Frontier IG MGarg said Pakistan had launched the attack with full preparation and tried to target several sensitive locations, including the Phalodi airbase in Rajasthan, but all efforts were neutralised. Not only did it (Pak) send drones and missiles, but also moved Army units and tanks close to the border. However, Indian forces were already on high alert to deal with the offensive, he said. IG Garg revealed that Pakistan carried out a total of 413 drone attacks across the border districts of Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sriganganagar. All drones were intercepted and shot down mid-air by Indias air defence system, he stated. The Indian forces responded with precise timing and wherever necessary. Thanks to this timely response and prior preparedness using modern technology, not a single civilian casualty was reported along the western border. While a wall of someones house collapsed and another house suffered minor damage, the overall impact was minimal due to our advance planning and use of cutting-edge resources, he added. The IG also confirmed that Pakistans missiles were armed and potentially lethal, but none succeeded in breaching Indian territory. Before they could touch Indian soil, our anti-missile systems destroyed them mid-air. What landed on the ground was only debris or empty shells, he clarified. Responding to questions about developments across the border during Operation Sindoor, IG Garg said, Pakistan had deployed its army along its side of the border, but our soldiers did not retreat even an inch. Both countries have now announced a ceasefire, but Operation Sindoor has not ended it has only been temporarily suspended. He emphasized that the BSF remains fully prepared for ground combat. BSF has always been at the frontline. Even during Operation Sindoor, while Pakistan evacuated many villages, we didnt need to evacuate even one. Our jawans stood firm, and so did the people of our border villages shoulder to shoulder with the nation. Highlighting the role of women in the forces, IG Garg praised the women personnel of BSFs Seema Bhavani unit. Everyone was ready to help each other. The courage and commitment displayed by our women soldiers proved that India's women's power is second to none. They stood guard on the border with the same passion and bravery as the men, 24 hours a day. Their dedication is truly commendable.

Operation Sindoor not just miltary mission, but reflection of changing India: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that Operation Sindoor was not just a military mission, but he face of a changing India that reflects the country's resolve, courage, and growing strength on the global stage. Addressing the nation through his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said, Today the entire country is united against terrorism, filled with anger and determination.' Modi hailed Operation Sindoor as a turning point in the global fight against terror, describing it as a symbol of India's growing strength and clarity of purpose. Operation Sindoor has infused new confidence and energy into the global fight against terrorism, he said. He lauded as extraordinary the precision with which Indian forces attacked the terrorist infrastructure across the border. Modi emphasised that the operation was not a one-off military action, but a reflection of a changing and resolute India. Operation Sindoor is the picture of our resolve, courage, and a changing India, he said, and delved on the impact of the operation that resonated deeply across the country. The operation's success was followed by a series of gestures in tribute to the armed forces, ranging from patriotic poems on social media to paintings by children and massive Tiranga Yatras. In many cities, youth volunteered for civil defence, wrote poems, sang songs of resolve, and children made paintings carrying powerful messages, Modi said. He talked about a recent visit to Bikaner where he was gifted paintings made by children. In cities like Katihar and Kushinagar, families named their newborns 'Sindoor' in honour of the operation, he said. The PM credited India's home-grown defence capabilities for the mission's success, following the spirit of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. This was the ultimate bravery of our soldiers, backed by the power of weapons, equipment, and technology made in India, he said. Modi noted a renewed energy across the country towards the 'Vocal for Local' campaign post-Operation Sindoor, saying the mission had not just inspired patriotism but also strengthened the spirit of self-reliance. This victory carries the sweat of our engineers, technicians, and every citizen who contributed, he said.

Mysore Pak to Mysore Shri: Jaipur shops rename sweets, cite nationalism; critics call out linguistic ignorance

JAIPUR: In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, several sweet shop owners in Jaipur have begun replacing the word 'Pak' with 'Shri' while referring to traditional Indian sweets, citing nationalist sentiments and customer discomfort. Sweets such as Moti Pak, Aam Pak, Gond Pak, and the iconic Mysore Paklong staples in Jaipurs confectioneriesare now being rebranded as Moti Shri, Aam Shri, Gond Shri, and Mysore Shri. The move, which has drawn both support and ridicule on social media, is being seen by some as a symbolic gesture of patriotism to shun any mention of Pakistan - as the use of Pak suggests the hostile neighbour in the imagination of many. According to shopkeepers, the decision was prompted by repeated customer feedback. People didnt like hearing Pak anymore. They would associate itjokingly or seriouslywith Pakistan, so we decided to change it, said one sweet shop owner from Johari Bazaar. Mohit Jain, who runs a popular sweet shop near the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, echoed the sentiment. Every day, customers would ask us to change the name. They no longer felt comfortable hearing Pak. So we brainstormed with the team and decided to give the sweets a more Indian identity, he said. Weve now renamed Bikaneri Moti Pak to Bikaneri Moti Shri, Chandi Bhasm Pak to Chandi Bhasm Shri, and Swarn Bhasm Pak to Swarn Bhasm Shri. Customers are appreciating the change and linking it to patriotic sentiments. Prateek Agarwal, a shop owner in Shastri Nagar, said he plans to follow suit. When you hear Shri in the name, it gives a sense of satisfaction that something has changed, he remarked. However, not everyone agrees with the curious logic behind the change. Language experts and food historians have pointed out that the word Pak has no connection with Pakistan or Urdu. The term Pak in these sweets originates from Pak-Shastra, the ancient Sanskrit word for culinary science. It simply means cooked or a cooked preparation, explained a Jaipur-based Sanskrit scholar. In the case of Mysore Pak, experts say the word Pak comes from Kannada, where it refers to a syrupy sweet or cooked sugar preparation - again unrelated to any geopolitical connotation. The renaming of these traditional sweets has sparked a larger conversation about the growing influence of symbolic nationalism and cultural reinterpretation. While some see the change as a harmless expression of patriotism, others warn that it risks distorting Indias diverse linguistic and culinary heritage.

Every drop of Indian blood will be avenged: PM Modi warns Pakistan

JAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed Pakistan for using terrorism as a weapon against India on Thursday and asserted that the hostile neighbour and its economy will have to pay a heavy price for every terrorist attack in future. Addressing his first public meeting in Rajasthan after Operation Sindoor , PM Modi spoke at length about the strikes carried out by India's armed forces in Pakistan on May 7 following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22. Speaking to a large gathering during the inauguration of various development projects in Bikaner district, PM Modi declared that Pakistan will not get a drop of water from rivers over which India has rights and claimed there was no scope for talks with Pakistan. At the meeting in Palana, about 20 km from Bikaner on the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan, the Prime Minister said, Pakistan will now onwards have to pay a heavy price for every terrorist attack ...Pakistans army will pay it, Pakistans economy will pay it. PM Modi said Operation Sindoor was the embodiment of a new India that will strike forcefully and fearlessly at the heart of terror. Launching a scathing attack on Pakistan, PM Modi vowed a firm response to any hostile action from the neighbouring country. In his 40-minute speech, Modi sent a strong message: Every drop of Indian blood will be avenged. Those who play with the lives of Indians will not be spared, he declared. India is no longer afraid of nuclear threats. Those who shed Indian blood will pay dearly for every drop, asserted PM Modi. Earlier on Thursday morning, the Prime Minister inaugurated 103 redeveloped railway stations across the country from Deshnok, near the Pakistan border. He also flagged off the Bikaner-Bandra train and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth Rs 26,000 crore. Modi arrived at Nal Airbase in Bikaner and proceeded to the Karni Mata temple to offer prayers. From there, he reached Palana to address the public gathering. Referring to the recent Pahalgam attack, Modi said, On the 22nd, India eliminated nine major terrorist hideouts within 22 minutes. The world has now seen what happens when sindoor (vermilion) turns into gunpowder. Drawing a historical parallel, Modi recalled the 2019 Balakot airstrikes. After the Balakot operation, my first public rally was held in Rajasthan. Once again, history repeats itself. After Operation Sindoor, I am addressing the people from Veerbhoomi (land of the brave), he said. There will be no trade, no talks with Pakistan. If there is any conversation, it will be only about Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, he declared. Outlining the principles behind Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister said, First, any terrorist attack on India will receive a befitting reply, on our terms. Thevl tme, method, and conditions will be chosen by our forces. Second, India will not be intimidated by nuclear threats. Third, we will not differentiate between terrorist organizations and the governments that support them they will be treated as one. Modi further said, Pakistan knows it cannot win a conventional war against India. Thats why it has weaponised terrorism. But it has forgotten that Modi, the servant of Mother India, stands firm with a proud chest. My mind remains calm, but my blood is hot. It is no longer blood, but burning sindoor flowing through my veins. The Prime Ministers fiery speech comes amid heightened national security concerns and rising tensions along the border. His message in Bikaner was loud and clear India will not tolerate terrorism and will retaliate with full force.

And now, not blood, but hot vermilion is flowing in Modis veins. The Congress has been questioning the government for halting Operation Sindoor at a time when the armed forces were going strong and taking decisive action against terror camps in Pakistan. The Congress has also demanded answers on the issue of third party mediation, a breach of the stated national policy, after US President Donald Trump repeatedly claimed that he mediated talks between India and Pakistan by using trade as leverage, leading to a ceasefire. The Ministry of External Affairs has rubbished the claim, stating that the ceasefire negotiations happened between India and Pakistan. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not addressed Trump's claims yet, prompting Congress to question his silence. This is the 8th time President Trump has made this claim that he got Operation Sindoor stopped. He claims to have used trade to get India to end Operation Sindoor. Prime Minister Modi has not rejected this claim even once. PM Modi unveils 18 modernised railway stations under Amrit Bharat plan in Gujarat

ALLAHABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually inaugurated 18 redeveloped railway stations in Gujarat, marking a major milestone under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Under the scheme, over 1,300 stations across India are being transformed into modern transit hubs. The 18 stations, revamped at a combined cost of Rs 164 crore, are part of a sweeping overhaul of 87 railway stations across the state, with a total investment of Rs 6,303 crore. Driving this infrastructure push is Gujarats nearly complete railway electrification, with 97 per cent of its routes now electrified, positioning the state as a frontrunner in rail modernisation. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who presided over the inauguration of the redeveloped Limbdi station, hailed the Prime Ministers leadership for catalysing a new era in Indias transport landscape. Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, infrastructure development has been a national priority - not just for citizens, but also for our armed forces. The modernisation of railways reflects his bold vision and unwavering commitment to nation-building, said CM Patel. The 18 newly inaugurated stations in Gujarat include Shihor Junction, Utran, Dakor, Derol, Hapa, Jamjodhpur, Jamwanthali, Kanalus Junction, Karamsad, Kosamba Junction, Limbdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Rajula Junction, and Samakhiali. Each has been upgraded with cutting-edge amenities, improved connectivity, and enhanced passenger comfort - transforming them into modern gateways for millions. Railway Minister Vaishnaw says redevelopment of 500 more stations to be completed by 2027 Underscoring Gujarats rapid infrastructure advancement, the Chief Minister revealed that since 2014, the state has electrified 3,144 kilometres of railway lines, pushing total electrification to 97 per cent - a figure that outpaces national averages. This is the result of development-driven governance, where intent meets execution, he asserted. The CM also spotlighted the Rs 17,155 crore allocation for Gujarat in the 2025-26 railway budget, calling it a seismic jump - 29 times higher than the average allocation between 2009 and 2014. Gujarat today runs four Vande Bharat trains, connecting key routes with unmatched speed and comfort, said Patel. Whether its the daily commuter or the global traveller headed to the Statue of Unity Ekta Nagar, railway services are being reimagined to serve every segment. As part of the nationwide rollout, PM Modi also unveiled 103 redeveloped stations under the Amrit Bharat Yojana from Bikaner. Simultaneously, Chief Minister Patel toured the newly revamped Limbdi station, receiving a detailed briefing on its upgraded infrastructure and world-class amenities. These redeveloped stations are not just buildings - they are symbols of a new India on the move, the CM concluded. Sindoor turned into 'barood', destroyed nine terror hideouts in 22 minutes: PM Modi

Rajasthan government issues APOs for SDM, Tehsildar involved in illegal sale of Barmer border land

JAIPUR: Acting on the highly controversial and illegal land sales near the international border in Barmer district, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has ordered APO (Awaiting Posting Orders) for the SDM and Tehsildar of Ramsar involved in these dubious deals. This significant move came after a high-level meeting on Monday night. SDM Anil Kumar Jain has been accused of selling land in a restricted area of Barmer in December last year using forged documents. He allegedly manipulated records to execute power of attorney in the names of his family members and facilitated the registry of the land through fraudulent means. Barmer MP Ummedaram Beniwal and Shiv (Barmer) MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati had previously accused SDM Jain of being a puppet of companies and facilitating land transactions in sensitive border areas. On May 17, tensions escalated in Manihari village of Shiv, where a clash broke out between villagers, police, and the administration. The conflict arose when company workers reportedly attempted to forcibly install high-tension electric poles in a field. When the affected family resisted, company representatives called the police. During the confrontation, SDM Anil Kumar Jain was allegedly seen manhandling a woman, which further fueled public outrage. MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati condemned the incident and reiterated his allegations against Jain, stating that the SDM was complicit in corporate land dealings near the border. Reacting to the APO orders, Bhati remarked, This is the result of the peoples struggle. In addition to the Ramsar officials, the Chief Minister also issued APOs to SDO Gulab Chand Verma and the Tehsildar of Raipur (Beawar) over administrative lapses. Just days earlier, the SPs of Jhunjhunu and Bikaner were APO-ed following reported security lapses during the Chief Ministers visits. Monday nights video conference was attended by the Chief Minister along with the Chief Ministers Office (CMO), District Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, District Collectors, and Superintendents of Police. During the meeting, CM Sharma issued a stern message, stating that his government would pursue a policy of zero tolerance toward corruption. The Chief Minister also reviewed key administrative issues including the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Garibi Mukt Gaon Yojana, the status of applications under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), pending disciplinary actions against staff, land allocation related to budget announcements, public grievance hearings, and the issue of illegal mining. He instructed officials to take necessary steps to ensure effective implementation. Reiterating his stand, Chief Minister Sharma said, Officers must be held accountable to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach the last person. Any negligence will not be tolerated.

Rajasthan mothers name newborns after Army Operation 'Sindoor,' amid Indo-Pak tensions

JAIPUR: Amid rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, patriotism is finding a unique expression in Rajasthan. Inspired by the Indian Armys recent counter-terrorism initiative, 'Operation Sindoor', several families in the state are naming their newborns after the operation. At the Government Hospital in Nawalgarh, Jhunjhunu district, three babies have already been named 'Sindoor'. The move comes as a symbolic tribute to the army and the sacrifices of soldiers and their families following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. Seema, a new mother at the hospital, expressed her pride, saying, This name will always inspire my son to love his country. The childs grandmother added, We lost many of our bravehearts in the attack. I will send my grandson to the army so he can serve the nation. Pakistani drone attack on Pokhran foiled; Rajasthan border on red alert, blackout enforced

For a second night of grave anxiety on the Rajasthan border, Pakistan launched a drone attack on Pokhran on Friday night. Though loud sounds of explosions were heard and flashes of light were seen in the sky, sources say the Indian air defence system intercepted and neutralised the Pakistani drone. While the Indian forces have foiled the attack, a red alert has been issued in Jaisalmer, Barmer and Sri Ganganagar districts, and residents have been urged to stay indoors. A blackout has been enforced in all districts along the border. There are growing worries that Pakistan may target other areas also through drone attacks. Earlier in the day, a live bomb was recovered in Kishanghat village in Jaisalmer district along the India-Pakistan border on Friday morning, triggering panic among residents amid growing military activity and heightened tensions along Rajasthan's western frontier. The Indian Army immediately sealed the area and launched bomb disposal operations, while security forces issued strict instructions for civilians to maintain a safe distance. The recovery comes at a time when residents across border districts like Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, and Sriganganagar have reported increased military movement and low-flying aircraft, deepening public anxiety and fueling fears of escalation. In response to the evolving situation, the Jaisalmer District Collector issued a fresh set of stringent security guidelines. Drone operations have been completely banned in the district from May 8 to July 7, and all drone owners have been instructed to immediately deposit their equipment at local police stations. The sale, purchase, and use of firecrackers have also been prohibited, with immediate closure orders issued for all firecracker shops. Pakistan attacks in Bikaner and Jaisalmer neutralised A strict blackout will be enforced daily from 9 pm to 6 am, during which all lights must remain off and windows covered. Additional deployments of army and police personnel have been made in densely populated areas like Kishanghat to ensure public safety. Despite the growing sense of uncertainty, Indian defence systems successfully neutralised several incoming threats on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. Reports confirm that multiple aerial drones and bombs from across the border were intercepted and defused mid-air, preventing casualties and major damage. To further strengthen ground-level coordination, the Rajasthan government has transferred nine Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) to previously vacant administrative subdivisions along the border. As a precautionary measure, the train running between Barmer to Munabao and Bhagat Ki Kothi to Munabao was cancelled on Friday. Due to the drone attacks, the railways cancelled the Jaipur-Jaisalmer train on Thursday and the Jaisalmer-Jaipur train on Friday between Bikaner and Jaisalmer. It operated only from Jaipur to Bikaner. Amid Pakistan's repeated attempts to attack military bases in Rajasthan, the railways decided to cancel the operation of many trains on Friday. As a result, trains going towards Barmer and Jaisalmer will be affected. Srinagar airport under drone attack, blasts heard North Western Railway CPRO Shashi Kiran said that four trains have been completely cancelled amid a blackout and an emergency on the border, while two trains will be partially cancelled. Apart from this, five trains have been rescheduled, and 3 trains have been regulated. Meghwal, Khattar emerge as frontrunners for BJP national president

NEW DELHI: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, along with fellow Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar, Bhupender Yadav, and Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as other potential candidates, including a woman, is emerging as a frontrunner for the BJP's top organisational position - the national president. Meghwal, a former civil servant from Rajasthans Bikaner, was awarded the Best Parliamentarian in 2013. He currently serves as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, and also holds the Ministry of Law and Justice portfolio in the current Modi cabinet. Considered one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trusted allies, Meghwal has strong ties to the RSS and significant support from the organisation. An added advantage is his background as a member of the Dalit community, having been elected three times as MP from the SC-reserved Lok Sabha constituency. Notably, Meghwal is regarded as one of the BJPs key floor managers during parliamentary sessions, particularly in handling challenges from the Opposition. He has also played a pivotal role in passing crucial legislations, including the abrogation of Article 370. After Meghwal, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is being cited as the second most prominent contender, with a strong likelihood of emerging as the partys most formidable and consensus candidate to succeed incumbent JP Nadda. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who previously served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh with numerous achievements to his credit, is also being considered as a top contender, alongside Meghwal, Khattar, and others. Other names speculated for the party presidents post include Bhupender Yadav, a strong OBC face from the Yadav community, which holds significant electoral influence in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and Dharmendra Pradhan, both of whom are serving ministers in the Modi government. Sources within the party said on Sunday that preparations for the organisational elections are progressing quietly, with the candidate for national president expected to be announced by the first or second week of May. Required organisational formalities in many states have been completed and process for making a consensus on a suitable candidate from a shortlist of 6-7 names, including a woman, is expected to be made by May first and second week, said a senior BJP leader. When asked by TNIE , a BJP source revealed that the woman leader being considered is Vanathi Srinivasan, an MLA from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and the national president of the BJP Womens Front. When asked about the name of the Andhra Pradesh BJP president being considered as a potential candidate, a senior BJP source said, She has not been with the BJP for the past 15 years and being in the party as a primary member for the last 15 years is required as a point in the election for the party president for a candidate. Daggubati Purandeswari joined the BJP in 2014 from Congress and is currently heading the party as state president since 2023 after she joined the party. Therefore, her chances of being nominated as the party's consensus candidate are now seem not strong, remarked the sources, adding the names of Vinod Tawde and Arun Singh.

Gehlot vs Bhajanlal: Political storm erupts on social media amid accusations, AI remarks

JAIPUR: A major political storm has erupted in Rajasthan, with Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and former CM Ashok Gehlot at the centre of a heated exchange. The row, which has played out on social media platform X, stems from Gehlots recent remarks on artificial intelligence (AI) and Sharmas accusations regarding his predecessors absence from the assembly. During his visit to Bikaner for a Kisan Sammelan under the Rajasthan Diwas Festival, Sharma launched a scathing attack on Gehlot, accusing him of neglecting the assembly while remaining active on social media. Gehlot has not attended the assembly even once, but he continues to stay in the headlines through X, Sharma said. He further added, Politics is not just about tweeting, but about connecting with people, understanding their issues, and resolving them. The Chief Minister also challenged Gehlot to review his own tenure, questioning what significant work had been done for the people of Rajasthan during his five-year rule. (AI) , AI AI Ashok Gehlot (@ashokgehlot51) March 25, 2025 Gehlot swiftly responded on X, hitting back by referencing an old tweet from Sharma. He pointed out that two and a half years ago, Sharma had protested against the Congress government, demanding millet procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Gehlot reminded him that the BJP had now been in power for nearly one and a half years and had promised millet procurement at MSP in its election manifesto. When will the procurement actually begin? Gehlot asked, sharing Sharmas old tweet, where he had participated in the protest against the then Congress-led government. Political analysts believe the controversy is linked to Gehlots recent tweet praising AI. In his post, he highlighted AI as a powerful tool for expanding knowledge and providing unbiased information. His remarks were seen as a possible reference to Xs AI-powered tool, Grok, which has been a subject of debate, especially after some of its responses related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly unsettled BJP supporters. Known for his strategic political remarks, Gehlots statement appeared to have struck a nerve, prompting Sharmas criticism. This is not the first time political leaders in Rajasthan have engaged in a digital battle. Observers recall a similar Twitter spat between former Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore and Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasara, which remained a hot topic in the states political circles. The latest clash between Sharma and Gehlot only adds to the ongoing trend of political rivalries playing out on social media.
