With grassroots revival in mind, Congress holds first meeting of district chiefs in years
NEW DELHI: Seeking to strengthen the party at the grassroots, top Congress leadership on Thursday held a meeting with district unit chiefs urging them to work unitedly with a long-term strategy to ensure victory in upcoming state elections. In his inaugural address, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge asserted the organisation's ideology is strong but it cannot be implemented in the country without attaining power. Emphasising the role of DCCs, senior leader and formed president Rahul Gandhi said without them, the party cannot thrive or succeed. He urged them to help build a stronger Congress and a fairer India. This is the first time in years that the party organised such a meet with district chiefs, which was attended by 338 DCCs from 13 states and three union territories. This was the first in the series of meetings, with two more slated here on April 3 and 4. Addressing the meeting, Gandhi said he emphasised on the role of DCCs as the foundation of the Congress party. Without them, the party cannot thrive, cannot succeed. Our fight is not just against the RSS-BJP. It is for an India where every citizen, every community, has the right to dream and achieve. Together, we will build a stronger Congress and a fairer India, he said in a post on his WhatsApp channel. Sharing my opening remarks at the first leg of the meeting with District Congress Committee Presidents 1. I welcome everyone to this District Presidents' meeting today. We have participants from 13 states and 3 Union Territories present here. 2. The importance of this meeting pic.twitter.com/pIvYQxSW9j Mallikarjun Kharge (@kharge) March 27, 2025 Congress' publicity department head Pawan Khera later told reporters the meeting carried forward the decision of the 2022 Udaipur Chintan Shivir that DCCs should be made strong and effective. Today a big step has been taken in that direction, he said, adding the AICC is going to make decisions on economically empowering DCCs. Khera said four presentations were made at the meeting: Sasikanth Senthili on the organsational structure, Khera himself made one on behalf of the communication department, Supriya Shrinate on social media and Vijay Inder Singla on how party's property can be used effectively in districts. The meeting was also addressed by senior leaders including AICC treasurer Ajay Maken. AICC General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal was also present. In his inaugural address, Kharge said INDIA bloc parties fought unitedly against the BJP and its allies, restricting them to 240 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Had the Congress got 20-30 seats more, an alternative government would have been formed, he said. Calling the DCC chiefs the first line of party' defence at the ground, he said their inputs will be crucial in planning the party's strategy. Our 'Save Constitution' campaign exposed BJP-RSS' secret desire to change the Constitution. Today, the BJP is short of majority and dependent on two allies. A prime minister who arrogantly claimed (they would win) 400 seats was dealt a significant blow by us, Kharge said. The Congress Party secured almost 100 seats. If we had worked harder, we could have gained 20-30 more seats. A gain of these many seats could have led to the formation of an alternative government in the country, Kharge said at the meeting. Had we achieved this, we could have halted the systematic assault on our independent institutions, democracy, and the Constitution, he said. He said the Congress' battle against the BJP and the RSS continues both inside and outside Parliament. We must take this fight to the streets. Appreciating the role of the DCC chiefs, he said, You are not just our messengers, but the generals of the Congress Party, leading from the front on the ground. Therefore, Rahul Gandhi ji and I recognised the need for direct communication with you. It is essential to appoint the most capable, committed, and hardworking individuals to these positions rather than making selections based on the recommendations of the local leaders, he said. The Congress chief said elections will be held in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu in March-April 2026. It is your responsibility to ensure the victory of every candidate in your district, he told the DCCs. Most importantly, we must remember to work in unity with a long-term strategy to win elections at the state level. Our ideology is strong, but without power, we cannot implement it. That is why we have to make every effort to strengthen the organisation in states and return to power, he asserted. You are not just carrying forward our ideology but also the fight for India's future. You must take our message to every household. We will fight and establish a government across the country that prioritises people and their issues, our democracy, and our Constitution, he said. Claiming that independent institutions the Congress built painstakingly are now under attack by those in power, being controlled by a handful of people with allegiance to a particular ideology. In foreign affairs, countries like the USA are not only insulting our citizens, but also embarrassing us by imposing counter-tariffs. Meanwhile, the BJP governments at the Centre and in the states remain focused on creating communal disharmony to divert public attention, he alleged. These communal issues are deliberately manufactured in the media to benefit the BJP rather than people, Kharge said. He also said the BJP tries to mislead and misrepresent our achievements. Kharge said another critical area that requires attention is voters' list management. He said the country faces a litany of issues today: the economy is in a shambles, the rich are getting richer, the poor becoming poorer, unemployment is at an all-time high and skyrocketing inflation has resulted in the lowest household savings in decades.

After drubbings, Congress plans central election dept
NEW DELHI: Battered by a string of electoral losses, the Congress plans to set up a central election management department to revive the partys wilting political fortunes. This initiative is one of the key goals outlined in the Udaipur Declaration, adopted by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) during a three-day Nav Sankalp Shivir in May 2022. The new election management cell aims to implement much-needed reforms in the partys electoral strategies. According to party sources, the election management department will be responsible for preparing the party well in advance for every election, ensuring effective management and achieving the desired outcomes. Although the party is yet to announce the head of the department, discussions around potential young leaders for the role are ongoing. Sources said the party has taken a serious view on setting up an election management department, in the recent meeting of the party brass with newly appointed general secretaries and states in charge. The meeting was chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. While many of the Udaipur resolutions have been on the back burner for three years, the partys disappointing performances in the Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections have spurred the leadership to focus on improving election management and advancing the proposal sooner than expected, said a source. AICC session in Ahmedabad on April 8 and 9 Stressing on the importance of long-term planning for elections, a leader said, Theres an old saying, In times of peace, prepare for war. The Congress should be following that. Last-minute election management would not help the party fight against a fiercely combative and resource-rich BJP. I wont say war rooms and surveys are not effective. The party will have to start planning strategies the day after it loses an election. Sources added that the partys renewed focus on strengthening District Congress Committees will help co-ordinate and consolidate its efforts on election management. According to AICC leader Jairam Ramesh, the emphasis of the strategy meeting was more on strengthening the party at the district level. There was a detailed discussion about strengthening around 800 district Congress committees across the country, he said. Ahilya Nagri, Indore and the city of lakes, Udaipur have become the first wetland cities of India to be accredited globally among the wetland cities under the Ramsar Convention. The announcement for the accreditation was made Friday night, on 24 th January 2025 ahead of the World Wetlands Day that falls on February 2 every year. The Independent Advisory committee was established on Wetland City Accreditation, which accredited 31 new cities to the list that includes two from India. Bhopal, the state capital of Madhya Pradesh was also nominated, however it missed out on the accreditation by the committee. The Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental treaty between 172 countries of the world that lays down the framework for conservation and a cautious wise use of the wetlands as well as their resources through local, regional and global actions and international cooperation. This convention on wetlands was adopted in 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar. Presently, 85 cities of India have been protected under the treaty. Accreditation is the international recognition of the cities that value their natural and man-made wetlands. It is granted to only those cities that are able to satisfy the six point international criteria, such as adopting conservation measures for wetlands and their ecosystem services. Accreditation is carried with the objective of promoting conservation and the cautious use of urban and peri-urban wetlands. It also aims to provide sustainable socio-economic benefits to the locales. The list of 74 accredited wetland cities has highest 22 from China, followed by France with 9. Other cities include Trelew (Argentina), Mechelen (Belgium), Kasane-Kazungula, Shakawe (Botswana), Valdivia (Chile) and others from Iran, Japan, Morocco, Philippines, Poland, South Korea, Serbia, Switzerland and Zimbabwe. Along with Indore and Udaipur, Bhopal was also nominated to be accredited by the committee in the August list. But due to ecological concerns, the city missed out to the feat. The citizen groups of the city have expressed their concerns regarding the damage to ecological character of the Bhoj wetland in the city. Last year, they had reported the matter to the Secretariat mentioning about the proposed road project through the catchment area of the Bhoj wetland, which might threaten the lifeline of the people, the wildlife as well as the waterbodies. Bhupendra Yadav, Union Environment Minister shared the news on X, calling it a double joy! His post read, I am thrilled to share that in a first for India, Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Udaipur in Rajasthan have joined the list of 31 Wetland accredited cities in the world a testimony to PM Shri @narendramodi jis vision of marching ahead aligning economy and ecology. The achievement reflects the emphasis laid by India on holistic development of our urban areas without compromising on ecological conservation in both urban and rural centers. Congratulations Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan on this unique achievement! Let us pledge to make Viksit Bharat a Green Bharat. Expressing happiness over the significant achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to X. In a post he said, Congratulations to Indore and Udaipur! This recognition reflects our strong commitment to sustainable development and nurturing harmony between nature and urban growth. May this feat inspire everyone to keep working towards creating greener, cleaner and more eco-friendly urban spaces across our nation. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav called it a moment of pride for the state as well as the nation. He said that the achievement reflected on Madhya Pradeshs commitment towards environmental conservation. MP Urban Administration and Development Department (UADD) and Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has constantly worked for the restoration and integration of wetlands in the city. Notably, Indore could fulfill four of the nine parameters to attain its accreditation, working for the conservation and the betterment of its ponds and reservoirs. The Sirpur Lake which is a designated urban site, is known for the birds that assemble here, and will soon be developed into a word sanctuary. As mentioned earlier, Udaipur is known as the city of lakes. It is a home to five major wetlands Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar and Doodh Talai. They are not a mere sight to behold the culture of the city, but they also help in maintain the microclimate of the city, at the same time protecting the city from extreme weather conditions. The accreditation of the two wonderful cities is just another feather to the big cap of achievements and something worth to be celebrated indeed. For, along with the urban development, we need sustainability too. The development and nature together shall go hand in hand.

The festival offered an enriching lineup of stories and performances, including: Devdutt Pattanaiks mythological tale of Sati Savitri; Makrand Deshpandes engaging Slice of Life; Debjanis retelling of Shurpanakhas Story, providing a fresh perspective on the Ramayana. In addition, folk storytellers Shilpa and Aditya Kothakota presented the story of Renuka, Mother of Parshuram and the Naya Savera Band, comprising inmates from Swaraj Jail University, performed original songs blending music and storytelling. The festival also included workshops for visually impaired children, who explored the art of storytelling through touch and sensory experiences. It was designed as a special tribute to Amir Khusrau, the 13th-century master of wit and poetry, whose playful riddles like Kheer Pakai Jatan Se remain popular. Addressing nearly 1,000 schoolchildren, he brought Chetak's heroism to life, recounting how Maharana Pratap regarded him not merely as a horse but as a commander. After poll defeats, Congress set for big-ticket shake-up
NEW DELHI: Stung by the electoral setbacks in the assembly elections, the Congress is set for a major organisational shake-up in the coming months. It is in tune with party chief Mallikarjun Kharges announcement during the Congress Working Committee meeting in Belagavi that 2025 will be marked by efforts to implement the Udaipur Declaration and equipping the party with necessary skills to win polls from the booth to the central level. According to sources, the party will effect major changes in AICC, state units, general secretary/ secretary levels and state in-charges, among others. It is finalising the process of restructuring, which is likely to be announced by early February, said sources. According to sources, there will be a major overhaul in states such as Haryana, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra will see major restructuring from top to bottom, said a party source. The party faced huge embarrassment after the defeat of senior leaders such as Prithviraj Chavan and Balasaheb Thorat. Many heads will roll in the state, said a senior leader. In UP, the grand old party has already dissolved its state and district committees. The state will go to polls in 2027. AICC general secretary in-charge of Chhattisgarh Kumari Selja may also face the axe in the reshuffle, said sources. After the partys debacle in Haryana, Selja had questioned the election management of the leadership in the polls. Others who work in the communication department include Pawan Khera, chairman of the media and publicity department and Supriya Shrinate, chairperson of social media and digital platforms. Though Kharge said that the party will implement the Udaipur Declaration, which bars its leaders from holding an organisational position for more than five years, it is not clear whether it will affect AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, who has been holding the post for six years now. We will fill all the vacant posts. We will equip our organisation, right from the level of the AICC to booths, with the necessary skills to win elections, Kharge had said. Coal industry makes strides towards digital operation
RAIPUR: In a significant milestone, the dozer push mining technology based on digital knowledge application has for the first time been successfully tested in the coal mining operation in Parsa East and Kete Basen (PEKB) mine at Udaipur in Ambikapur about 350 km north of Raipur. Under the guidance of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), the development is being cited as groundbreaking in India's mining sector. Chief scientist at CSIR-CIMFR Dr M P Roy, appreciating the success of the dozer push technology trial, said, This new technology has the potential to revolutionise open-cast mining operations in India. The dozer push mining method is a modern alternative to traditional dragline and truck/shovel excavation. It not only accelerates and improves mining efficiency but also reduces operational costs. The trial accomplished with the desired result was carried out by Adani Natural Resources, a leading private mining company. The test of the performance and qualities marks a significant achievement in mining technology, leveraging unmanned machines for coal extraction. The newly engaged technique boasts itself as a significant stage in the journey toward digital autonomous mining, ensuring improved productivity and safety. The dozer push mining trial employs an automated (unmanned) drill machine to perform cast blasting. Post-blasting, the erupted discharged materials are relocated using a specially designed large, automated dozer to the decoaled area. The procedure is seen as a potential solution to challenges faced in traditional truck-shovel mining, especially during the monsoon season, when haul roads become muddy, impacting safety and productivity. By reducing dependence on trucks and excavators, this method optimizes excavation activities and lowers unit costs, offering a more sustainable and efficient approach to mining. The achievement places India at the forefront of adopting cutting-edge mining technologies, affirmed the officials. The trial was led by CSIR-CIMFR Director Prof Arvind Kumar Mishra with critical contributions from Dr M P Roy, Dr Vivek Kumar Himanshu, R S Yadav, Suraj Kumar and Ashish Kumar Vishwakarma, who played pivotal roles in the successful execution of the first of its kind mining technology.

Additionally, Ajmer Range IG Omprakash suspended one trainee SI, Subhash Vishnoi. This follows the suspension of 11 trainee SIs from the Jaipur and Udaipur ranges on January 3, 2025. All the suspended officers had been sent to their respective districts on December 31, 2024, despite being under investigation. According to the Rajasthan Civil Service (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1958, any government employee taken into police custody for more than 48 hours is subject to suspension. The current actions are based on this regulation, as all the accused had been in custody. Six individuals who were selected in the recruitment process but did not join have also been arrested. In May, the Police Headquarters directed all districts and ranges to initiate departmental action against the accused. The Police Headquarters decision to send the accused SIs for field training has been legally challenged in the High Court. A hearing on this matter is scheduled for January 6, 2025. Meanwhile, BJP Minister Kirodi Lal Meena, who had been vocal about cancelling the Sub Inspector-2021 recruitment process, has recently refrained from making further statements. On Sunday, he met BJP state president Madan Rathore at the partys state office but avoided questions regarding the recruitments cancellation. When asked if the governments recent actions, including the suspension of SIs on bail, were influenced by his protests, Meena declined to comment. His sudden silence has sparked speculation about possible instructions from the partys central leadership to avoid conflicting with the governments stance. Notably, Meena recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. On December 30, 2024, Meena had publicly demanded the cancellation of the recruitment process and criticized the SOGs handling of the investigation. As the High Court prepares to hear the case, the outcome could have significant implications for the accused officers and the future of the recruitment process. The evolving political and legal landscape surrounding the Sub Inspector-2021 paper leak case continues to draw attention, with further developments anticipated in the coming days.
Anita Katyal | Is Modi making up for memorial mess? Why Kejriwal said he will pay priests
Prime Minister Narendra Modis recent meeting with popular Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is clearly part of the Bharatiya Janata Partys ongoing effort to woo the Sikh community which has repeatedly spurned its overtures. The BJP has failed to make a dent in Punjab even as its neighbouring states have handed out handsome electoral victories to it. Not only was this meeting an attempt to reach out to the Sikh youth, it also had the desired result of creating a rift between Dosanjh and the protesting farmers who felt betrayed by the singer since he has consistently supported their cause. This meeting also comes shortly after the Modi government paid fulsome tributes to the late Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his passing while its top brass turned up for his funeral. Despite going all out in praise of Manmohan Singh, the Modi government found itself on the defensive as it could offer no plausible explanation for holding the late Prime Ministers last rites at the public Nigambodh Ghat and not at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal which was set up in 2013 on the banks of the Yamuna river as a common place for the cremation of national leaders. Atal Behari Vajpayee was cremated here in 2018. Finding itself on the backfoot, the government is now working overtime on setting up a memorial for Singh following a request by the Congress. When the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power over a decade ago, a senior party ideologue had exultantly declared in an informal conversation with media persons that they would ensure that Jawaharlal Nehrus legacy is completely destroyed and his name erased from public spaces. Among the various steps this government has taken is to rename the Nehru Museum and Library as Prime Ministers Museum and Library while Nehrus residence, which was converted into a museum, has been dwarfed by a new modern building in the compound housing the new Prime Ministers Museum. Now there is talk about a move to rename Delhis popular Nehru Park. According to the Delhi grapevine, an official committee has been set up to zero in on a new name, preferably in the memory of RSS leaders like Veer Savarkar and Deendayal Upadhyaya. This is actually a minor issue as compared to the highly effective campaign being run by the BJP to devalue Nehrus work through the use of social media and agenda-driven writings of right-wing writers and columnists. The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is anxiously awaiting the names of candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls, especially as the Election Commission is expected to announce the election schedule very soon. While hectic lobbying is underway for the prized ticket, a guessing game is on about who will eventually make the cut. The latest speculation is that as in the case of other states, the BJP will field several former MPs in what promises to be a fiercely-contested battle. Smriti Irani, Meenakshi Lekhi, Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri are among those whose names are doing the rounds. In fact, Mr Verma has virtually launched his campaign by reaching out to women voters and organising a bhandara at Delhis well-known Hanuman Mandir. Smriti Irani, it is said, has abandoned Amethi and enrolled as a voter in Delhi though the BJP insists these are rumours spread by the Aam Aadmi Party. Meanwhile, the ongoing battle between political rivals, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party has taken a fresh turn after former Delhi chief minister announced that his government would pay Delhis temple priests and gurudwara granthis a monthly salary of Rs 18,000 if elected back to power. While the BJP has hit out at Mr Kejriwal, saying these freebies will put a strain on the exchequer, AAP insiders had their own explanation. According to them, this was in response to reports that the Delhi governments Religious Committee, currently headed by lieutenant governor V.K. Saxena, had ordered the demolition of temples in the capital as a precursor to branding the AAP as anti-Hindu. Mr Kejriwal, it was said, pre-empted the BJP move by announcing salaries for priests and granthis even though this scheme could prove to be non-starter as no criteria has been laid down to identify the priests who will be entitled to this salary. As Congress members await the long overdue organisational reshuffle, quiet moves are on to push for the replacement of key office-bearers like K.C. Venugopal known for his proximity to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Instead of running a direct campaign against them, which often proves counter-productive, it is being argued that general secretaries who have completed five years in office should be either moved out or given a fresh assignment. According to them, the 2022 Udaipur Declaration adopted by the Congress had laid down that no one will hold an organisational post for more than five years. Pro-changers are feeling hopeful after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharges address at the Belagavi meeting of the partys working committee where he reiterated that the Udaipur Declaration will be implemented.

PV Sindhu and Venkata Datta Sai: Love-game and match point
They say marriages are made in heaven. This surely matches one. By the admission of the bride and groom, it did bloom on a flight, mid-air. When PV Sindhu ended her campaign at the Paris Olympics, it was far from ideal. She lost in the first knockout game of the event. After winning two back-to-back medals at the Olympics (Rio and Tokyo), this came as a big setback. Yet she looked composed meeting the assembled media, answering questions with her hallmark calmness. There was no inkling of an impending wedding bell. All she wanted was to take a break and then think about the future. Just like her incredible retrievals from insane angles and corners, no one saw this coming. Like her drop shots, this was deceptive. About four months ago, Sindhu surprised the world when she announced her marriage through a social media post. The curiosity grew when the name of the fiance was announced. It was not some celebrity but an IT professional. Venkata Datta Sai is not from sports background either. By his own admission, managing the Delhi Capitals, the IPL team while working with JSW, was the closest he had come to sports. But as Sindhus online post says quoting Khalil Gibran, When love beckons to you, follow him, for love gives naught but itself. Love it is then. Just weeks before the announcement, the double Olympic medallist unveiled the new logo of Posidex Technologies, where her now husband is an executive director. He is the son of GT Venkateshwar Rao, managing director at Posidex and a former member of the Indian Revenue Service. Sindhus father PV Ramana told this newspaper that the two families were friends and had known each other for a long time. The company where Sai works deals in customer master data management solutions for leading banks and non-banking financial institutions. The marriage grabbed headlines. Sindhu and Sai chose Udaipur, one of the iconic destination wedding locations in the country. They wanted to have a quiet and traditional wedding with the near and dear ones. One of the most celebrated sportspersons in India, who once topped Forbes highest-earner (Olympic sports) charts, got married on December 22 with about 150 people in attendance. This was followed by a high-profile reception in Hyderabad. The selection of venue as Udaipur was the choice of bride and groom as they like the city, revealed Ramana. Organising the marriage and various other ceremonies within a month and crisscrossing the country to invite dignitaries, including the Prime Minister, had its own challenges. The couple and their families planned it to perfection. Obviously it was challenging as many arrangements were needed to be done. But we did it all meticulously and did not leave any gap, said Ramana. Their relationship started blossoming in October 2022. We were family friends since about 2013 and reconnected on a flight, Sindhu told a TV channel just before marriage. Once on the flight, we met and then we started talking. Sai, has his own take too. Funnily enough, it was a Vistara flight from Hyderabad to Delhi, he had said. I always tell people, she is the one who messaged me first and called me. After the Olympics, thats when we decided to get together. Sindhus father elaborated on the wedding. We left for Udaipur on December 19 and returned to Hyderabad on December 23 evening. From the 19th to the 22nd, marriage and other functions took place. Ramana said the reception on December 24 in Hyderabad was a grand affair. It was attended by around 7,000 people, he said. On December 25 a special pooja was conducted for the bride and groom as per our tradition. Then on December 26, we went to Tirupati, Padmavati temple and on 27th morning, we went to the Tirumala Hills. One of the most accomplished sportspersons in the country finally got hitched at the age of 29 after winning Olympic and world championship medals for India. Like she had said in Paris after the loss, just take some break and then come back and lets see what it is because four years (for the next Olympics) is a very, very long time. But for now, its love-game and match point.

Nitish Reddy: The story of sacrifices made by a middle class family
Melbourne : Nitish Reddy loves his tattoos like most 21-year-olds do, and one on his ankle is a picture of Achilles' Heel'. He considers it a reminder of all the difficulties that his family has endured in the last 10 years to power his cricketing dream. For Reddy, becoming a cricketer was both a choice and a compulsion. He wanted to do something for his parents, who gave their tears and sweat to fuel his India dream. The middle-class family gambled with its finances to allow Reddy soar high. The risks taken and losses suffered will not bother them now. Getting into the Indian team is a proud feeling but it is only 50 percent of the dream. It will be fulfilled if I can wear that jersey and win matches for my country, an emotional Reddy had told PTI in June this year. I want to see respect for my father in the eyes of those who once tore him to shreds for believing in my talent. The maiden Test ton celebration in Amarendra Bahubali style was a tribute to his father Mutyala, who watched his son rescue India from the stand behind team's dug-out. The journey was not just Reddy's but also of his father's sacrifices and belief that his son was special. As a 12 year-old, Reddy overheard his relatives cursing his father for losing money in his micro-financing business after taking a voluntary retirement from service (VRS) from Hindustan Zinc. He took the decision to avoid getting transferred to Udaipur since he knew the city did not have the facilities and coaching to help his son excel as a cricketer. He invested the payout of Rs 20 lakh to start his business. However, his friends, who took loan from him never returned the amount, resulting in massive losses. I could hear those discussions and even as a 12-year old. I understood everything. It was a promise I made to myself that only one thing can redeem my dad's prestige an India call-up, Reddy had told back then. It was the time when he could just afford one bat a year (one good seasoned English willow cost around 15,000 back then. It is close to 50k now for international players). I can't tell you how happy I am, Mutyala said, struggling to express his emotions, standing outside the MCG after his son's recuse act. Virat sir has told him to work hard, he said. A few years back, Reddy was adjudged the best U-16 cricketer by the BCCI and he attended the Annual Awards Function in Bengaluru. The entire Indian team was in attendance and the 14-year-old was desperate for a selfie with Kohli and his wife Anushka, who were waiting near the elevator of the hotel. Kohli was in a hurry but obliged and it became a memorable moment for young Reddy. Now getting applauded for his effort by his idol is an unforgettable memory for him. Reddy's family also can't thank enough former Andhra Cricket Association's head MSK Prasad for enrolling him in its state-of-the-art academy in Visakhapatnam. Initially, he was placed in our U-14 academy, located far from his hometown. However, his parents encouraged him to pursue his dreams, and he steadily progressed through our academies. Nitish eventually earned a spot in India's U-19 team, showcasing his skill and determination, Prasad recently told PTI. In 2023, Reddy secured spot in India's Emerging Asia Cup team but was dropped after playing a few games. The squad had players like Yash Dhull, Nishant Sindhu, who are far away from national reckoning. There are certain events that change the course of one's career and that Emerging Asia Cup made him realise that to make a mark at the international level, he needed to think out of the box. I started spending more time at the nets and also hired a few side arm specialists (throwdown) available in Vizag and practised for a month. They were all hurling the ball at 145 clicks and initially I found it hard. And then by the end of the month got adjusted. That practice went a long way when I played IPL this season where I could hit sixes, he had said. His SRH skipper Pat Cummins might be smiling quietly and thinking aloud as to why he told Reddy that he has the potential to play for India and develop into a good all-rounder. India head coach Gautam Gambhir also deserves credit for putting his foot down for having Reddy Down Under after watching his exploits in a T20 series against Bangladesh. It was a leap of faith and Reddy is now the 'find of the series' for India. On the Christmas Day, when everyone was fretting about India's combination, Sanjay Manjrekar had questioned, Will Leaving Reddy out give India a better balance? On Saturday, one of Reddy's sponsors, a popular sports equipment and apparel brand quote tweeted Manjrekar with the cricketer's pic urged the cricket pundit to keep quiet.

Who is Nitish Kumar Reddy, the 21-year-old centurion at MCG!
Team India's young talent Nitish Kumar Reddy returned to making headlines as he smashed his maiden international century during the fourth Test against Australia at Melbourne on Saturday. After valiant near 50 scores in the earlier matches, Nitish with his fearless fight, not only managed to rescue the team but also brought up his first hundred. Earlier, the 21-year-old all rounder created history after becoming the first Indian batter to score 8 sixes against Australia in a series. He also levelled the world record for hitting the most number of sixes against Australia by a touring batsman. England's Micheal Vaghan and West Indies' Chris Gayle also hit 8 maximums against Australia down under. Before today's feat Nitish had a high score 74 runs in his just began international career. He smashed 74 in his second T20I appearance for India this year against Bangladesh in Delhi. But who is Nitish Kumar Reddy? The Boxing Day Test centurion was born in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam in 2003 and picked a cricket bat at the age 5. He used to play cricket at the age of 5 with a plastic bat and would regularly visit the Hindustan Zinc grounds to watch seniors play, Nitish's wikipedia page reads. However, Nitish's dad, Mutyala Reddy, quit his job at Hindustan Zinc after he was transferred to Udaipur, prioritizing his son's cricket future. Nitish, who made his international debut for India on October 6 this year in a T20 match against Bangladesh, got called up for the Border Gavaskar Trophy and wore the Test cap on November 22. However, his rise to fame started with his appearances for IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Nitish was first bought by SRH for Rs 20 Lakh during the 2023 season and was named the 'Emerging Player of the year' award for IPL 2024. The all-rounder scored 303 runs and picked 3 wickets in the season. The Hyderabad-based franchise retained Nitish for Rs 6 crore for the upcoming season to be held from March 14. Moreover, he was also honored by the BCCI with Best cricketer in the under-16 award, making him the first player from Andhra Cricket Association to receive a BCCI honor. However, his journey was not all easy. In a video released by India's cricket governing body, Nitish said he was not serious about the game until he saw his dad cry over financial problems. To be honest I was not that serious about cricket, my father left his job for me, there have been a lot of sacrifices behind my story. one day I saw him crying because of financial problems and I was like this is not how I play, my father was making sacrifices and I was playing cricket for fun, Nitish said. He said that incident changed his life and he put in a lot of hard work to reach this place. At that time I took it seriously and after one year I got the growth, I did the hard work. His dad has a major role in shaping his career and his personality. Everyone wants to be a hero in their life, but in Nitish's story Mutyala Reddy is the hero. His father never gave up on him despite receiving a lot of criticism even from close family members. Nitish witnessed it all. His hardwork fuels Nitish to achieve something in life, the right handed player's childhood coach told a reputed media house in an interview. Meanwhile, Team India are currently 9 down after stumps on Day 3, with Reddy still standing his ground at 105* accompanied by Siraj.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge emphasised the need for organizational empowerment and nurturing local leadership. He criticised PM Modi for not addressing Amit Shah's remarks on B R Ambedkar. Kharge also raised concerns about the impartiality of the Election Commission and the involvement of ideologically committed individuals to protect the Constitution. Kharge promised to fully implement the Udaipur Declaration.

The Congress general secretary organisation said that the CWC meeting will discuss an action plan and programme for the party for the upcoming year, with two resolutions. Sources said one resolution will be a political one and the second will be on the importance of the session. Mr Venugopal said the meeting will deliberate the critical challenges facing the nation under the BJP rule, including economic inequality, erosion of democracy and attacks on constitutional institutions. This will be one of the landmark programs of the Indian National Congress, he added. Mr Ramesh said: A few years ago, a Chintan Shivir was held in Udaipur, from which the decision of 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' came out. It is hoped that some historic decisions will also come out from Belgaum. The 39th session of the Indian National Congress was held at Belgaum (now called Belagavi, Karnataka) in 1924 and it was the only Congress session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi.

Udaipur's Eklingji temple introduces dress code for women devotees, amid royal family dispute
Udaipurs iconic Eklingji Temple has introduced new regulations, including a dress code that prohibits visitors from wearing short clothing such as mini skirts, Bermudas, and night suits. The new guidelines, implemented by the temple's management committee, came into effect on Friday. Additionally, the temple has banned mobile phones within its premises. Visitors are now required to deposit their phones at designated counters before entering. The temple management cited the introduction of these measures as a response to complaints from devotees who desired a more respectful and serene atmosphere for worship. The committee has also banned the entry of pets and weapons to further uphold the sanctity and safety of the temple. The Eklingji Temple, revered for its spiritual importance, draws thousands of devotees and tourists from across the country. The new rules are aimed at preserving the temple's spiritual ambience and ensuring an environment conducive to worship. In addition to the implementation of these new regulations, the temple has found itself in the spotlight due to a royal family dispute that has garnered public attention. The controversy centers around Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, heir to the former royal family of Mewar, and his uncle, Arvind Singh Mewar, a BJP MLA from Nathdwara. The dispute began following the passing of Mahendra Singh Mewar, Vishvaraj Singhs father. Following Mahendra Singh's death, Vishvaraj Singh was crowned as the Diwan of Mewar, a title traditionally conferred as a representative of Lord Ekling Nath, the deity believed to reign over Mewar. Arvind Singh Mewar contested this succession, arguing that he was the rightful heir to the royal family's assets. According to family tradition, the management of the Mewar royal trust had been entrusted to Arvind Singhs father, who also oversaw the royal seat of Udaipur. Arvind Singh claimed this established his and his son Lakshyaraj Singhs right to the royal legacy. Tensions heightened when Vishvaraj Singh attempted to visit the Eklingji Mahadev Temple following his coronation. Arvind Singh Mewar, asserting his control over the property through the family trust, took measures to block Vishvarajs entry by closing the gates of the City Palace with police security present. The situation grew tense, with both sides standing firm in their positions. After two days of escalating tension and reports of violence, both parties ultimately reached an agreement regarding Vishvaraj Singh's visit to the temple. The dual narratives of the temples new regulations and the royal family dispute highlight the deep cultural and historical significance of the Eklingji Temple. It remains a center of devotion while also serving as a backdrop for contemporary conflicts that reflect the ongoing complexities of heritage and tradition in Udaipur.
