Udaipur storytelling festival: A celebration of oral tradition
After three vibrant days of celebrating the art of storytelling in its multiple forms, the Udaipur International Storytelling Festival ended on Sunday. The 6th edition of this unique festival brought together some of the best storytellers in the country along with lively musical performances and folk art displays. Set against the backdrop of Udaipurs rich heritage, this amazing Cultural Event saw a captivating fusion of Storytelling, Folk Art And Music on all three days of the festival. Held from January 10 to 12, 2025, the festival featured storytellers from India and abroad sharing tales in their distinctive styles. Over three days, attendees were treated to a variety of stories, including childrens fables, folk songs, personal experiences, and witty anecdotes. Each day began with storytelling sessions for children and featured three segmentsKahaniganj and Jamghat (Gathering)held in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The festival offered an enriching lineup of stories and performances, including: Devdutt Pattanaiks mythological tale of Sati Savitri; Makrand Deshpandes engaging Slice of Life; Debjanis retelling of Shurpanakhas Story, providing a fresh perspective on the Ramayana. In addition, folk storytellers Shilpa and Aditya Kothakota presented the story of Renuka, Mother of Parshuram and the Naya Savera Band, comprising inmates from Swaraj Jail University, performed original songs blending music and storytelling. The festival also included workshops for visually impaired children, who explored the art of storytelling through touch and sensory experiences. A special highlight of the final day was Sayeed Sahil Aghas revival of Amir Khusraus wit and wordplay in Qissebazi. It was designed as a special tribute to Amir Khusrau, the 13th-century master of wit and poetry, whose playful riddles like Kheer Pakai Jatan Se remain popular. Sayeed Sahil Agha brought this art to life through his unique storytelling style, blending traditional and modern elements. Another powerful element of the festival was Bollywood actor Vicky Ahujas moving performance of Sardar Ji, a tale of Indias partition, which brought tears to the audience. Ahuja delivered a stellar performance of Sardar Ji, a heart-wrenching tale of the Partition, which left the audience deeply moved. Similarly, the Naya Savera Band, composed of prison inmates, showcased their talent and resilience by performing songs they had written themselves, inspiring hope and self-confidence. The co-founder of this exciting festival, Sushmita Singha asserted, Udaipur Tales brings together diverse voices to celebrate the art of storytelling. Co-founder Salil Bhandari added, Through stories and music, we aim to inspire creativity and connection across generations. The age-old adage, Kosh Kosh par Pani Badle, Char Kosh par Vani (Every few miles, water changes; every few miles, so does the language), beautifully encapsulates Indias diversity. The festival explorewd this diversity which extends to the enriching tapestry of stories and folktales passed down through generations. These stories, laced with humor, wisdom, or heartfelt emotion, have entertained and educated for centuries. However, this cherished tradition is gradually fading, making its revival a necessity. What began as a small initiative has grown into a major cultural event as the sixth edition of the Udaipur Storytelling Festival became a lively platform dedicated to reviving the timeless art of storytelling. The biennial festival uniting storytellers, writers, and enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds was a delightful celebration of India's rich cultural heritage, unique storytelling styles, and oral traditions. Blending tradition with innovation, the festival captivated audiences as it bids to ensure that the legacy of storytelling remains alive for future generations. The art of storytelling resonates even in the digital age!
JAIPUR: Renowned actor, playwright, and storyteller Makarand Deshpande captivated audiences on January 12, 2025, as he launched his latest narrative, Paa Girl, at the Udaipur Tales International Storytelling Festival. The highly anticipated performance marked a poignant moment in the festival's lineup, blending Deshpandes signature style of vivid imagery and emotional depth. Paa Girl is a soul-stirring tale about a girl clad in a saree, gazing at the sky and imploring the gods for rain. Through her expressionsher lips, eyebrows, chin, and most importantly, her eyesshe conveys a world of emotions, embodying the strength and vulnerability of womanhood. As Deshpande narrated, he reflected on the essence of resilience with the line: Lad lad ke jo banti hai, ladti hai, vo ladki kehlati hai. (She who becomes through struggle, fights, and is called a girl.) This story, which was shared for the first time at Udaipur Tales, beautifully weaves themes of determination, spirituality, and the poetic power of nature, resonating deeply with the audience. A memorable highlight of Udaipur Tales Deshpandes unique style of storytelling, combining dramatic flair with profound emotion, made Paa Girl one of the standout moments on the festivals final day. His ability to bring characters and emotions to life reaffirmed the power of storytelling as an art form that transcends boundaries. The Udaipur Tales International Storytelling Festival 2025 continues to uphold its tradition of bringing diverse voices and narratives to the forefront, with Deshpandes new story adding another feather to its cap.

Three-day Udaipur Storytelling Festival kicks off with inspiring tales and unique performances
JAIPUR: In a unique initiative to celebrate the timeless art of storytelling, the three-day Udaipur Storytelling Festival kicked off at Park Exotica Resort near Shilpgram in the City of Lakes. Organised by Udaipur Tales, the festival features a blend of real and fictional tales in a bid to reignite the joy of sharing and listening to stories while inspiring creativity and connections across generations. This one-of-a-kind international storytelling festival aims to celebrate diverse storytelling genres such as contemporary, romance, dastangoi, historical, mystery, horror, thriller, and folk, among others. The festival's first session began with an inspiring tale of patriotism and bravery. Renowned artist Vilas Janve, a recipient of the National Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, narrated the immortal story of Maharana Pratap's loyal horse, Chetak. Addressing nearly 1,000 schoolchildren, he brought Chetak's heroism to life, recounting how Maharana Pratap regarded him not merely as a horse but as a commander. The tale of Chetak's unwavering loyalty and sacrifice left the children spellbound. Following Vilas Janve, Shona Malhotra presented interactive stories aimed at fostering confidence and creativity among children. The young audience participated enthusiastically. Next, Nisha Sinha narrated an engaging story about the emperors attire, which was appreciated for its unique presentation. Additionally, Sukhmani Kohli captivated the audience, both young and old, with her distinctive storytelling that combined narrative and theatrical performance, leaving everyone in fits of laughter. Co-founder of Udaipur Tales, Sushmita Singha, remarked, The Udaipur Storytelling Festival is not just a platform for sharing stories; it is an effort to establish Udaipur as the storytelling capital of India and beyond. Through stories, we aim to foster deep conversations between society and culture. Co-founder Salil Bhandari added, Stories are not just entertainment; they connect society and inspire the new generation. This festival aims to nurture creativity and confidence in children and youth. Artist Vilas Janve, who led the first session, asserted, Presenting serious topics in an entertaining storytelling format enhances their impact and ensures they are remembered for a long time. Everyone has heard the story of Chetak, but here we attempted to present it in a new way for the children, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Beginning the festival with Chetaks tale of bravery, a timeless source of inspiration, was an apt choice. Inmates associated with the Swaraj Jail University project gave a special performance at the festival. Their rhythmically precise and heartfelt presentations mesmerised the audience. Some inmates performed original songs they had written, including Na Main Jap Na Main Tap and Ek Safar Ki Talaash, whose melodies had everyone swaying. The purpose of involving inmates in the festival is to help them explore their passions, gain practical skills, and revive self-esteem, leadership, and a sense of purpose amidst the challenging conditions of incarcerated life. The platform allows them to express themselves and connect meaningfully with society.
After poll defeats, Congress set for big-ticket shake-up
NEW DELHI: Stung by the electoral setbacks in the assembly elections, the Congress is set for a major organisational shake-up in the coming months. It is in tune with party chief Mallikarjun Kharges announcement during the Congress Working Committee meeting in Belagavi that 2025 will be marked by efforts to implement the Udaipur Declaration and equipping the party with necessary skills to win polls from the booth to the central level. According to sources, the party will effect major changes in AICC, state units, general secretary/ secretary levels and state in-charges, among others. It is finalising the process of restructuring, which is likely to be announced by early February, said sources. According to sources, there will be a major overhaul in states such as Haryana, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra will see major restructuring from top to bottom, said a party source. The party faced huge embarrassment after the defeat of senior leaders such as Prithviraj Chavan and Balasaheb Thorat. Many heads will roll in the state, said a senior leader. In UP, the grand old party has already dissolved its state and district committees. The state will go to polls in 2027. AICC general secretary in-charge of Chhattisgarh Kumari Selja may also face the axe in the reshuffle, said sources. After the partys debacle in Haryana, Selja had questioned the election management of the leadership in the polls. Multiple leaders told this paper that the party is likely to go in for a leadership change in the communication department, headed by AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh. Others who work in the communication department include Pawan Khera, chairman of the media and publicity department and Supriya Shrinate, chairperson of social media and digital platforms. Though Kharge said that the party will implement the Udaipur Declaration, which bars its leaders from holding an organisational position for more than five years, it is not clear whether it will affect AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, who has been holding the post for six years now. We will fill all the vacant posts. We will equip our organisation, right from the level of the AICC to booths, with the necessary skills to win elections, Kharge had said. Sonia to inaugurate new party HQ on Jan 15 Congress leader Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the partys new HQ at 9A, Kotla Road in Delhi on January 15 in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

Venugopals presence is noteworthy as it marks his first PAC meeting since the Congress formed the state government here. The last time that Venugopal attended a PAC in Telangana was in September 2023, ahead of the November Assembly elections. That meeting focused on preparations for hosting the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Tukkuguda, near Hyderabad. According to party sources, Venugopal will discuss the implementation of resolutions made at the recent CWC meeting held in Belagavi, Karnataka, on December 26, 2024. The Belagavi meeting outlined plans for a significant organisational overhaul in 2025, with a focus on promoting young leaders, evaluating leadership capabilities, and executing the Udaipur Chintan Shivir commitments from 2022. The CWC meeting has declared 2025 as The Year of Organisational Empowerment. The Congress faces pressing tasks in Telangana, including finalising the TPCC executive committee, appointing district committee (DCC) presidents, and preparing for upcoming local body elections. These elections, covering gram panchayats, zilla parishads, mandal parishads, and municipalities, are expected between February and July. Additionally, MLC elections for a graduates constituency and two teachers constituencies are scheduled for March 2025. The PAC meeting is expected to focus on strategies for these polls, alongside broader organisational reforms. The Congress leadership is pushing for greater inclusion of young leaders in key roles, while renewing emphasis on ideological commitments. The Belagavi CWC meeting stressed on the importance of aligning with the partys vision of protecting the Constitution and advancing the Congresss Idea of India. The PAC meeting will also deliberate on integrating local and emerging leadership into the partys framework to ensure robust grassroots connectivity.

Coal industry makes strides towards digital operation
RAIPUR: In a significant milestone, the dozer push mining technology based on digital knowledge application has for the first time been successfully tested in the coal mining operation in Parsa East and Kete Basen (PEKB) mine at Udaipur in Ambikapur about 350 km north of Raipur. Under the guidance of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), the development is being cited as groundbreaking in India's mining sector. Chief scientist at CSIR-CIMFR Dr M P Roy, appreciating the success of the dozer push technology trial, said, This new technology has the potential to revolutionise open-cast mining operations in India. The dozer push mining method is a modern alternative to traditional dragline and truck/shovel excavation. It not only accelerates and improves mining efficiency but also reduces operational costs. The trial accomplished with the desired result was carried out by Adani Natural Resources, a leading private mining company. The test of the performance and qualities marks a significant achievement in mining technology, leveraging unmanned machines for coal extraction. The newly engaged technique boasts itself as a significant stage in the journey toward digital autonomous mining, ensuring improved productivity and safety. The dozer push mining trial employs an automated (unmanned) drill machine to perform cast blasting. Post-blasting, the erupted discharged materials are relocated using a specially designed large, automated dozer to the decoaled area. The procedure is seen as a potential solution to challenges faced in traditional truck-shovel mining, especially during the monsoon season, when haul roads become muddy, impacting safety and productivity. By reducing dependence on trucks and excavators, this method optimizes excavation activities and lowers unit costs, offering a more sustainable and efficient approach to mining. The achievement places India at the forefront of adopting cutting-edge mining technologies, affirmed the officials. The trial was led by CSIR-CIMFR Director Prof Arvind Kumar Mishra with critical contributions from Dr M P Roy, Dr Vivek Kumar Himanshu, R S Yadav, Suraj Kumar and Ashish Kumar Vishwakarma, who played pivotal roles in the successful execution of the first of its kind mining technology.
Sub Inspector exam paper leak case: 9 more trainee SIs suspended in Rajasthan
JAIPUR:In a significant development in the Sub Inspector 2021 paper leak case, nine more trainee Sub-Inspectors (SIs) have been suspended, bringing the total number of suspended officers to 20. The SOG has arrested 45 trainee SIs in connection with the paper leak case. Of these, 25 accused have been granted bail. The suspensions follow a series of actions initiated by the authorities. On December 31, 2024, the Police Headquarters issued orders for field training for trainee SIs. However, these orders were seen as an attempt to facilitate the appointment of the accused officers. The new suspension orders have effectively reversed the situation. On Sunday, Bikaner Range Inspector General (IG) Omprakash suspended eight trainee SIs, including Karanpal Godara, Jairam, Manish Beniwal, Shravan Kumar, Manisha, Ankita Godara, Manju Vishnoi, and Manju Devi. Of these, Manju Vishnoi was allotted Bikaner, Manju Devi Hanumangarh, and the rest were assigned to Sri Ganganagar district. Additionally, Ajmer Range IG Omprakash suspended one trainee SI, Subhash Vishnoi. This follows the suspension of 11 trainee SIs from the Jaipur and Udaipur ranges on January 3, 2025. All the suspended officers had been sent to their respective districts on December 31, 2024, despite being under investigation. According to the Rajasthan Civil Service (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1958, any government employee taken into police custody for more than 48 hours is subject to suspension. The current actions are based on this regulation, as all the accused had been in custody. Six individuals who were selected in the recruitment process but did not join have also been arrested. In May, the Police Headquarters directed all districts and ranges to initiate departmental action against the accused. The Police Headquarters decision to send the accused SIs for field training has been legally challenged in the High Court. A hearing on this matter is scheduled for January 6, 2025. Meanwhile, BJP Minister Kirodi Lal Meena, who had been vocal about cancelling the Sub Inspector-2021 recruitment process, has recently refrained from making further statements. On Sunday, he met BJP state president Madan Rathore at the partys state office but avoided questions regarding the recruitments cancellation. When asked if the governments recent actions, including the suspension of SIs on bail, were influenced by his protests, Meena declined to comment. His sudden silence has sparked speculation about possible instructions from the partys central leadership to avoid conflicting with the governments stance. Notably, Meena recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. On December 30, 2024, Meena had publicly demanded the cancellation of the recruitment process and criticized the SOGs handling of the investigation. As the High Court prepares to hear the case, the outcome could have significant implications for the accused officers and the future of the recruitment process. The evolving political and legal landscape surrounding the Sub Inspector-2021 paper leak case continues to draw attention, with further developments anticipated in the coming days.
Anita Katyal | Is Modi making up for memorial mess? Why Kejriwal said he will pay priests
Prime Minister Narendra Modis recent meeting with popular Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is clearly part of the Bharatiya Janata Partys ongoing effort to woo the Sikh community which has repeatedly spurned its overtures. The BJP has failed to make a dent in Punjab even as its neighbouring states have handed out handsome electoral victories to it. Not only was this meeting an attempt to reach out to the Sikh youth, it also had the desired result of creating a rift between Dosanjh and the protesting farmers who felt betrayed by the singer since he has consistently supported their cause. This meeting also comes shortly after the Modi government paid fulsome tributes to the late Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his passing while its top brass turned up for his funeral. Despite going all out in praise of Manmohan Singh, the Modi government found itself on the defensive as it could offer no plausible explanation for holding the late Prime Ministers last rites at the public Nigambodh Ghat and not at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal which was set up in 2013 on the banks of the Yamuna river as a common place for the cremation of national leaders. Atal Behari Vajpayee was cremated here in 2018. Finding itself on the backfoot, the government is now working overtime on setting up a memorial for Singh following a request by the Congress. When the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power over a decade ago, a senior party ideologue had exultantly declared in an informal conversation with media persons that they would ensure that Jawaharlal Nehrus legacy is completely destroyed and his name erased from public spaces. Among the various steps this government has taken is to rename the Nehru Museum and Library as Prime Ministers Museum and Library while Nehrus residence, which was converted into a museum, has been dwarfed by a new modern building in the compound housing the new Prime Ministers Museum. Now there is talk about a move to rename Delhis popular Nehru Park. According to the Delhi grapevine, an official committee has been set up to zero in on a new name, preferably in the memory of RSS leaders like Veer Savarkar and Deendayal Upadhyaya. This is actually a minor issue as compared to the highly effective campaign being run by the BJP to devalue Nehrus work through the use of social media and agenda-driven writings of right-wing writers and columnists. The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is anxiously awaiting the names of candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls, especially as the Election Commission is expected to announce the election schedule very soon. While hectic lobbying is underway for the prized ticket, a guessing game is on about who will eventually make the cut. The latest speculation is that as in the case of other states, the BJP will field several former MPs in what promises to be a fiercely-contested battle. Smriti Irani, Meenakshi Lekhi, Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri are among those whose names are doing the rounds. In fact, Mr Verma has virtually launched his campaign by reaching out to women voters and organising a bhandara at Delhis well-known Hanuman Mandir. Smriti Irani, it is said, has abandoned Amethi and enrolled as a voter in Delhi though the BJP insists these are rumours spread by the Aam Aadmi Party. Meanwhile, the ongoing battle between political rivals, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party has taken a fresh turn after former Delhi chief minister announced that his government would pay Delhis temple priests and gurudwara granthis a monthly salary of Rs 18,000 if elected back to power. While the BJP has hit out at Mr Kejriwal, saying these freebies will put a strain on the exchequer, AAP insiders had their own explanation. According to them, this was in response to reports that the Delhi governments Religious Committee, currently headed by lieutenant governor V.K. Saxena, had ordered the demolition of temples in the capital as a precursor to branding the AAP as anti-Hindu. Mr Kejriwal, it was said, pre-empted the BJP move by announcing salaries for priests and granthis even though this scheme could prove to be non-starter as no criteria has been laid down to identify the priests who will be entitled to this salary. As Congress members await the long overdue organisational reshuffle, quiet moves are on to push for the replacement of key office-bearers like K.C. Venugopal known for his proximity to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Instead of running a direct campaign against them, which often proves counter-productive, it is being argued that general secretaries who have completed five years in office should be either moved out or given a fresh assignment. According to them, the 2022 Udaipur Declaration adopted by the Congress had laid down that no one will hold an organisational post for more than five years. Pro-changers are feeling hopeful after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharges address at the Belagavi meeting of the partys working committee where he reiterated that the Udaipur Declaration will be implemented.

PV Sindhu and Venkata Datta Sai: Love-game and match point
They say marriages are made in heaven. This surely matches one. By the admission of the bride and groom, it did bloom on a flight, mid-air. When PV Sindhu ended her campaign at the Paris Olympics, it was far from ideal. She lost in the first knockout game of the event. After winning two back-to-back medals at the Olympics (Rio and Tokyo), this came as a big setback. Yet she looked composed meeting the assembled media, answering questions with her hallmark calmness. There was no inkling of an impending wedding bell. All she wanted was to take a break and then think about the future. Just like her incredible retrievals from insane angles and corners, no one saw this coming. Like her drop shots, this was deceptive. About four months ago, Sindhu surprised the world when she announced her marriage through a social media post. The curiosity grew when the name of the fiance was announced. It was not some celebrity but an IT professional. Venkata Datta Sai is not from sports background either. By his own admission, managing the Delhi Capitals, the IPL team while working with JSW, was the closest he had come to sports. But as Sindhus online post says quoting Khalil Gibran, When love beckons to you, follow him, for love gives naught but itself. Love it is then. Just weeks before the announcement, the double Olympic medallist unveiled the new logo of Posidex Technologies, where her now husband is an executive director. He is the son of GT Venkateshwar Rao, managing director at Posidex and a former member of the Indian Revenue Service. Sindhus father PV Ramana told this newspaper that the two families were friends and had known each other for a long time. The company where Sai works deals in customer master data management solutions for leading banks and non-banking financial institutions. The marriage grabbed headlines. Sindhu and Sai chose Udaipur, one of the iconic destination wedding locations in the country. They wanted to have a quiet and traditional wedding with the near and dear ones. One of the most celebrated sportspersons in India, who once topped Forbes highest-earner (Olympic sports) charts, got married on December 22 with about 150 people in attendance. This was followed by a high-profile reception in Hyderabad. The selection of venue as Udaipur was the choice of bride and groom as they like the city, revealed Ramana. Organising the marriage and various other ceremonies within a month and crisscrossing the country to invite dignitaries, including the Prime Minister, had its own challenges. The couple and their families planned it to perfection. Obviously it was challenging as many arrangements were needed to be done. But we did it all meticulously and did not leave any gap, said Ramana. Their relationship started blossoming in October 2022. We were family friends since about 2013 and reconnected on a flight, Sindhu told a TV channel just before marriage. Once on the flight, we met and then we started talking. Sai, has his own take too. Funnily enough, it was a Vistara flight from Hyderabad to Delhi, he had said. I always tell people, she is the one who messaged me first and called me. After the Olympics, thats when we decided to get together. Sindhus father elaborated on the wedding. We left for Udaipur on December 19 and returned to Hyderabad on December 23 evening. From the 19th to the 22nd, marriage and other functions took place. Ramana said the reception on December 24 in Hyderabad was a grand affair. It was attended by around 7,000 people, he said. On December 25 a special pooja was conducted for the bride and groom as per our tradition. Then on December 26, we went to Tirupati, Padmavati temple and on 27th morning, we went to the Tirumala Hills. One of the most accomplished sportspersons in the country finally got hitched at the age of 29 after winning Olympic and world championship medals for India. Like she had said in Paris after the loss, just take some break and then come back and lets see what it is because four years (for the next Olympics) is a very, very long time. But for now, its love-game and match point.

Nitish Reddy: The story of sacrifices made by a middle class family
Melbourne : Nitish Reddy loves his tattoos like most 21-year-olds do, and one on his ankle is a picture of Achilles' Heel'. He considers it a reminder of all the difficulties that his family has endured in the last 10 years to power his cricketing dream. For Reddy, becoming a cricketer was both a choice and a compulsion. He wanted to do something for his parents, who gave their tears and sweat to fuel his India dream. The middle-class family gambled with its finances to allow Reddy soar high. The risks taken and losses suffered will not bother them now. Getting into the Indian team is a proud feeling but it is only 50 percent of the dream. It will be fulfilled if I can wear that jersey and win matches for my country, an emotional Reddy had told PTI in June this year. I want to see respect for my father in the eyes of those who once tore him to shreds for believing in my talent. The maiden Test ton celebration in Amarendra Bahubali style was a tribute to his father Mutyala, who watched his son rescue India from the stand behind team's dug-out. The journey was not just Reddy's but also of his father's sacrifices and belief that his son was special. As a 12 year-old, Reddy overheard his relatives cursing his father for losing money in his micro-financing business after taking a voluntary retirement from service (VRS) from Hindustan Zinc. He took the decision to avoid getting transferred to Udaipur since he knew the city did not have the facilities and coaching to help his son excel as a cricketer. He invested the payout of Rs 20 lakh to start his business. However, his friends, who took loan from him never returned the amount, resulting in massive losses. I could hear those discussions and even as a 12-year old. I understood everything. It was a promise I made to myself that only one thing can redeem my dad's prestige an India call-up, Reddy had told back then. It was the time when he could just afford one bat a year (one good seasoned English willow cost around 15,000 back then. It is close to 50k now for international players). I can't tell you how happy I am, Mutyala said, struggling to express his emotions, standing outside the MCG after his son's recuse act. Virat sir has told him to work hard, he said. A few years back, Reddy was adjudged the best U-16 cricketer by the BCCI and he attended the Annual Awards Function in Bengaluru. The entire Indian team was in attendance and the 14-year-old was desperate for a selfie with Kohli and his wife Anushka, who were waiting near the elevator of the hotel. Kohli was in a hurry but obliged and it became a memorable moment for young Reddy. Now getting applauded for his effort by his idol is an unforgettable memory for him. Reddy's family also can't thank enough former Andhra Cricket Association's head MSK Prasad for enrolling him in its state-of-the-art academy in Visakhapatnam. Initially, he was placed in our U-14 academy, located far from his hometown. However, his parents encouraged him to pursue his dreams, and he steadily progressed through our academies. Nitish eventually earned a spot in India's U-19 team, showcasing his skill and determination, Prasad recently told PTI. In 2023, Reddy secured spot in India's Emerging Asia Cup team but was dropped after playing a few games. The squad had players like Yash Dhull, Nishant Sindhu, who are far away from national reckoning. There are certain events that change the course of one's career and that Emerging Asia Cup made him realise that to make a mark at the international level, he needed to think out of the box. I started spending more time at the nets and also hired a few side arm specialists (throwdown) available in Vizag and practised for a month. They were all hurling the ball at 145 clicks and initially I found it hard. And then by the end of the month got adjusted. That practice went a long way when I played IPL this season where I could hit sixes, he had said. His SRH skipper Pat Cummins might be smiling quietly and thinking aloud as to why he told Reddy that he has the potential to play for India and develop into a good all-rounder. India head coach Gautam Gambhir also deserves credit for putting his foot down for having Reddy Down Under after watching his exploits in a T20 series against Bangladesh. It was a leap of faith and Reddy is now the 'find of the series' for India. On the Christmas Day, when everyone was fretting about India's combination, Sanjay Manjrekar had questioned, Will Leaving Reddy out give India a better balance? On Saturday, one of Reddy's sponsors, a popular sports equipment and apparel brand quote tweeted Manjrekar with the cricketer's pic urged the cricket pundit to keep quiet.

Who is Nitish Kumar Reddy, the 21-year-old centurion at MCG!
Team India's young talent Nitish Kumar Reddy returned to making headlines as he smashed his maiden international century during the fourth Test against Australia at Melbourne on Saturday. After valiant near 50 scores in the earlier matches, Nitish with his fearless fight, not only managed to rescue the team but also brought up his first hundred. Earlier, the 21-year-old all rounder created history after becoming the first Indian batter to score 8 sixes against Australia in a series. He also levelled the world record for hitting the most number of sixes against Australia by a touring batsman. England's Micheal Vaghan and West Indies' Chris Gayle also hit 8 maximums against Australia down under. Before today's feat Nitish had a high score 74 runs in his just began international career. He smashed 74 in his second T20I appearance for India this year against Bangladesh in Delhi. But who is Nitish Kumar Reddy? The Boxing Day Test centurion was born in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam in 2003 and picked a cricket bat at the age 5. He used to play cricket at the age of 5 with a plastic bat and would regularly visit the Hindustan Zinc grounds to watch seniors play, Nitish's wikipedia page reads. However, Nitish's dad, Mutyala Reddy, quit his job at Hindustan Zinc after he was transferred to Udaipur, prioritizing his son's cricket future. Nitish, who made his international debut for India on October 6 this year in a T20 match against Bangladesh, got called up for the Border Gavaskar Trophy and wore the Test cap on November 22. However, his rise to fame started with his appearances for IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Nitish was first bought by SRH for Rs 20 Lakh during the 2023 season and was named the 'Emerging Player of the year' award for IPL 2024. The all-rounder scored 303 runs and picked 3 wickets in the season. The Hyderabad-based franchise retained Nitish for Rs 6 crore for the upcoming season to be held from March 14. Moreover, he was also honored by the BCCI with Best cricketer in the under-16 award, making him the first player from Andhra Cricket Association to receive a BCCI honor. However, his journey was not all easy. In a video released by India's cricket governing body, Nitish said he was not serious about the game until he saw his dad cry over financial problems. To be honest I was not that serious about cricket, my father left his job for me, there have been a lot of sacrifices behind my story. one day I saw him crying because of financial problems and I was like this is not how I play, my father was making sacrifices and I was playing cricket for fun, Nitish said. He said that incident changed his life and he put in a lot of hard work to reach this place. At that time I took it seriously and after one year I got the growth, I did the hard work. His dad has a major role in shaping his career and his personality. Everyone wants to be a hero in their life, but in Nitish's story Mutyala Reddy is the hero. His father never gave up on him despite receiving a lot of criticism even from close family members. Nitish witnessed it all. His hardwork fuels Nitish to achieve something in life, the right handed player's childhood coach told a reputed media house in an interview. Meanwhile, Team India are currently 9 down after stumps on Day 3, with Reddy still standing his ground at 105* accompanied by Siraj.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge emphasised the need for organizational empowerment and nurturing local leadership. He criticised PM Modi for not addressing Amit Shah's remarks on B R Ambedkar. Kharge also raised concerns about the impartiality of the Election Commission and the involvement of ideologically committed individuals to protect the Constitution. Kharge promised to fully implement the Udaipur Declaration.

The authorities have also planned to place an installation on the proposed Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum at the venue. One of the highlights at Kalagram will be a Ganga pandal with capacity of 10,000 audiences by the Mela Authority. This will be the main arena, where celebrity performances will be held everyday. Additionally, three pandals with a space for 4,000 people will be erected at Jhunsi, Nagvasuki and Areil. There will also be another amphitheatre of 1,000 capacity at Kalagram, where Snageet Natak Akademi awardees artists, National School of Drama productions and ZCC ensembles will be organised, an official said. Apart from this, 20 stages will also be built throughout the city. They will be handed over to the UP culture department and the ministry of culture, the official added. Meanwhile, the Indian Railways is gearing up to redefine the Mahakumbh experience with an innovative Gram Tent City initiative in Prayagraj. The Mahakumbh, scheduled from January 14 to February 2025, is set to blend spirituality with modernity, providing a unique experience for millions of pilgrims. The Mahakumbh Gram Tent City plan, launched by IRCTC, aims to deliver a seamless and memorable experience for visitors.

Tripura CM Manik Saha rescues road accident victim
GUWAHATI: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha won widespread praise on Sunday after stopping his convoy to rescue a road accident victim. Saha, a dental surgeon who previously taught at Tripura Medical College before entering politics, was returning to the state capital Agartala from a government function in Udaipur in the Gomati district when he came across an injured man lying on Gokulnagar Road in the Sepahijala district. Udaipur royal feud over city palace entry escalates, three injured in violent clashes
JAIPUR: The ongoing property and succession disputes within the former royal family of Mewar have taken a violent turn. The crisis erupted shortly after the coronation of Vishvraj Singh as the 77th custodian of the Mewar royalty on Monday. However, late that night, he was barred from entering the City Palace, and the impasse continued to escalate on Tuesday, marking the second day of heightened tensions. Vishvraj Singh Mewar, also an MLA of the ruling BJP in Rajasthan, addressed the media, criticizing the district administration. He stated, The administration has shown weakness in upholding my rights. Visiting the temple is not criminal trespass. Yesterday was a special occasion, tied to custom, and visiting the Eklingji temple holds historical significance. I will visit Eklingji again tomorrow, as it predates Dhuni and carries a distinct tradition. The conflict stems from a long-standing family feud over control and access to the City Palace and the properties under the Udaipur Palace Trust. The dispute was reignited following the death of Mahendra Singh Mewar, the former Rana of Mewar, after which his elder son, Vishvraj Singh, was crowned. During a customary post-coronation visit to the Dhuni Mata temple, located within the Udaipur City Palace, Vishvraj Singh was denied entry by his uncle, Arvind Singh Mewar, leading to a heated confrontation. Receiver to oversee Udaipur City Palace's dispute portion following clash over new royal heads entry Reports indicate that the Udaipur Palace Trust, led by Arvind Singh Mewar, issued two public notices on Monday morning restricting unauthorized access to the trusts properties. The notices explicitly stated that Vishvraj Singh is neither a trustee nor entitled to any legal rights within the trust. These notices were published in local newspapers, and when Vishvraj Singh arrived at the palace gates, he was turned away. The situation soon escalated into violence, with stone pelting reported between the two sides late into the night. Videos and images of the altercation surfaced, highlighting the administrations failure to control the conflict. Senior officials, including the IG of the Udaipur Range, the District Collector, and the SP, intervened late in the evening to mediate and address Vishvraj Singhs concerns. Supporters of BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh break police barricade after he was denied entry into Udaipur Palace, hours after he was anointed the titular head of the erstwhile royal family of Mewar, in Udaipur. Eklingji Temple Visit Amid Rising Tensions Despite the ongoing tensions, a schedule has been confirmed for Vishvraj Singhs visit to the Eklingji temple. He is set to leave from Samor Bagh on Wednesday morning at 10:00 am. Impact on Mewars Legacy and Rajasthans Image The Mewar royal family, descendants of the legendary Maharana Pratap, holds significant cultural and historical stature in India and abroad. However, this public dispute has tarnished the familys prestige and disappointed tourists who revere Mewars legacy. Moreover, the timing of the conflict is particularly damaging, as it coincides with the upcoming 'Rising Rajasthan Summit,' a high-profile event aimed at attracting investors. The Rajasthan governments efforts to promote the states culture and heritage have been overshadowed by this internal feud, raising concerns about governance and the regions image on the global stage.

Receiver to oversee Udaipur City Palace's dispute portion following clash over new royal heads entry
JAIPUR: The district administration has appointed a receiver to oversee a controversial portion of Udaipur's City Palace following tension over Vishvaraj Singh, the new ceremonial head of the erstwhile royal family, being denied entry. The receiver's appointment came after supporters of Singh clashed with those of his paternal uncle Arvind Singh Mewar, who controls the City Palace, late on Monday. BJP MLA Singh was anointed titular head of the erstwhile Mewar royal family at a ceremony in Chittorgarh fort on Monday following the death of his father Mahendra Singh Mewar earlier this month. After his anointment, Singh was scheduled to go to City Palace to have darshan of the dhuni (a religious place) and then visit the Eklingnathji temple. However, Arvind Singh Mewar - who controls City Palace and, by extension, the dhuni and the temple - prevented Singh from entering. Through his lawyer, Arvind Singh Mewar had published two public notices in local newspapers on Monday and warned of legal action against trespassing. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers to handle the situation after the public notices were published. Following the ceremony, Singh and a large number of his supporters reached Udaipur but were denied entry into City Palace. While Singh waited for several hours at Jagdish Chowk, a few metres from the palace gates, his supporters tried to cross the police barricades before starting a protest. Collector Arvind Poswal and Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal later intervened and held talks with Singh and his cousin Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, the son of Arvind Singh Mewar, separately. The talks, however, remained inconclusive. Meanwhile, three policemen were injured after stones were pelted at the palace's main gate from both sides. With tensions escalating, the additional district magistrate appointed Ghanta Ghar SHO Yogendra Kumar Vyas as receiver for the disputed portion between Badi Pol to the dhuni. The notice of the receiver's appointment was also pasted on the palace's main gate. Following the receiver's appointment, Singh returned around 1:30 am and went to his residence without having darshan of the dhuni. The receiver will now take possession of the disputed area and decide on the entry parameters. Ghanta Ghar SHO Vyas said the situation was under control and possession of the area would be taken on Tuesday, depending on the situation. Police have tightened security around City Palace and in front of all entry gates. Markets near the palace are also shut. Singh is the BJP MLA from Nathdwara while his wife Mahima Kumari is the saffron party's Rajsamand MP. The Mewars are descendants of Maharana Pratap, who fought against the Mughals at Haldighati.

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government has announced a major initiative to recast the states school curriculum by forming a special review committee. This decision follows a statement from State Education Minister Madan Dilawar, who highlighted the need to eliminate undesirable and inappropriate subjects from the syllabus and align the curriculum with contemporary needs and the national ethos. Minister Dilawar emphasised the importance of crafting a curriculum that reflects the spirit of the nation and addresses modern educational requirements. Acting on his directive, the states school education department has begun the review process, intending to identify and address gaps in the existing syllabus. Known for his controversial remarks, Minister Dilawar had announced plans to add information about cows to the primary school syllabus in October. He had also said that schools should screen educational films on cows to enhance students' understanding. We will talk to scholars and experts and, if possible, will try to add information on cows in primary school books, he said. Similarly, in September, Dilawar had said that any textbook depicting Mughal ruler Akbar as great would be burned. He had claimed that Akbar had looted the country for years and was a rapist and hence no one in textbooks in Rajasthan should call him a great personality. The newly formed review committee will thoroughly assess the curriculum and recommend improvements to ensure it meets both cultural and historical standards while staying relevant to current times. The process aims to balance modernization with the preservation of Rajasthans heritage. In a related development, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumaris remarks on historical inaccuracies have sparked considerable debate. She asserted that the British and Mughals left behind a distorted history of Rajasthan, Jaipur, and the Rajputs, which has been taught to students. In history, wrong things have been written about the Rajput community. Jaipur, globally recognised due to our ancestor Sawai Jai Singh, has been misrepresented in textbooks. It is time to rectify these mistakes, she stated. Kumari further underscored the need to teach the younger generation the true history of Jaipur and Rajasthan. It is our generation's responsibility to present the authentic history of Jaipur to the world, she affirmed, pledging to bring historical accuracy to the forefront of education. On November 14, 2024, a high-level delegation led by Satish Kumar Gupta, Special Officer to the Education Minister, along with Dr. Jagdish Narayan Vijay and Dr. Surendra Godhra, visited New Delhi. The delegation met with NCERT Director Professor Dinesh Prasad Saklani to discuss the legal provisions and guidelines for the curriculum review. As per an order from the Rajasthan governments Primary Education (Planning) Department, the review committee will analyse the curriculum, including its content, illustrations, and interpretations. The evaluation will be guided by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the State Curriculum Framework, and the National Curriculum Framework. The committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research and Training (RSCERT) in Udaipur within 30 days. This initiative marks a crucial step in reshaping the states educational landscape while addressing historical and cultural narratives in a balanced and thoughtful manner.
