maharashtra-results-mva-charters-planes-for-mlas-confident-mahayuti-begins-cm-post-talks
With a day left for the Maharastra elections to come, both ruling Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are preparing for the outcome. While the race for the Chief Minister post has heated up in the Mahayuti camp, MVA ally Congress has reportedly charted a special plane for its MLA to avoid horse-trading. Both fronts, especially the MVA, are buoyed by increased voter turnout. The Congress believes this will translate into the votes for the Opposition, especially in the Vidharba region. The average voter turnout in the state has increased by more than 4 per cent. According to the Congress, the voter turnout indicates anti-incumbency sentiment. The party believes that out of 62 seats in Vidarbha, the Congress will get 35 to 40 seats. Hence, the focus in the Congress camp is to prevent the breakaway of MLAs. As soon as the results are announced, steps are in place to take the MLAs in a special plane to an undisclosed location. Local media reports claim Opposition Leader Vijay Wadettiwar has also been entrusted with keeping in touch with independent candidates who are likely to be elected. Vadettiwar is also responsible for the arrangement of MLAs in East Vidarbha. Meanwhile, the exit polls have created a buzz in the Mahayuti camp. The talks about government formation with the support of Independents have gained strength since some exit polls predict a hung Assembly. So much so that Shiv Sena Shinde group leader and minister Deepak Kesarkar has made a big statement regarding the formation of government before the result. If necessary, we will form the government with independents, Kesarkar added. There are also reports that various discussions have taken place in the political circle.

Who will be the next Maharashtra CM? Mahayuti, MVA constituents drop different names
MUMBAI: Even before the first votes are counted in Maharashtra, fissures have emerged within the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on who will head the next government with constituents in both camps laying claim over the chief minister's post. After polling for the 288-member assembly ended on Wednesday evening, the ruling as well as opposition fronts have started claiming that mandate will be in their favour when votes are counted on November 23. Soon after polling, state Congress chief Nana Patole asserted an MVA government would be formed in Maharashtra under the leadership of his party. Voting trends suggest the Congress will get the maximum number of seats in the new assembly, he said. His remarks did not go down well with ally Shiv Sena (UBT), whose leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday insisted the chief ministerial face will be decided by all alliance partners jointly once the MVA secures majority. The Rajya Sabha MP said if the Congress high command has told Patole that he will be the CM face then the national party's president Mallikarjun Kharge, and its top leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should announce the same. The MVA, consisting of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) and the Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP, have expressed confidence that their respective alliance will form the next government after votes are counted on Saturday. While a majority of exit polls have predicted that Mahayuti will retain power, a few have favoured the MVA. Whos got Maha edge? High rural vote count key On the Mahayuti side, Shiv Sena MLA and party spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat said the assembly elections were contested with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the face. Voters have shown their preference for Shinde through voting. I think it is Shinde's right (to be the next CM) and we are confident that he will be the next CM, Shirsat said. BJP leader Pravin Darekar batted for Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the top post. I think if anyone from the BJP is becoming the CM then it will be Devendra Fadnavis, he said. NCP leader Amol Mitkari pushed the name of his party chief and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar for the coveted job. Whatever the results, the NCP will be the kingmaker, Mitkari said. Asked about the CM face, Fadnavis maintained all three Mahayuti parties will sit together and take a good decision. Speaking to reporters separately, BJP leader Darekar claimed the Mahayuti will form the next government, dismissing the possibility of the MVA coming to power, and said the opposition bloc was plagued by internal rifts. The people of Maharashtra have given a clear mandate. The Chief Minister will be from the Mahayuti, not the MVA, and certainly not the Congress, he asserted. Highlighting divisions within the MVA, Darekar said, Congress MP Praniti Shinde and her father and former CM Sushilkumar Shinde supported an independent candidate against Uddhav Thackeray's nominee in a constituency in Solapur district. These internal rifts expose a lack of unity. How can parties without internal coherence decide on a Chief Minister? The BJP leader said Patole's aspirations to become chief minister were nothing but Mungerilal ke haseen sapne (daydreaming). On exit polls, Darekar remarked, While no exit poll is final, most have predicted a Mahayuti win. Even independent candidates (on winning) are likely to back Mahayuti. Taking a swipe at Prahar Janshakti Party leader Bachchu Kadu, he said, Kadu speaks with grand bravado, but his own seat is under threat. Let him first declare how many of his candidates are winning. Regarding Rahul Gandhi's statements on the Adani group, the BJP leader quipped, Rahul Gandhi should go to the US and focus on issues abroad, where his commentary might hold weight. His remarks on the fall of the Union government are childish and baseless. On the alleged involvement of NCP (SP) Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule and Patole in using bitcoins illegally to fund elections, Darekar said the truth will come out soon. Both Sule and Patole have denied the allegations. The ED's investigation is uncovering links to MVA leaders. The truth will emerge soon, he asserted. Highlighting the increase in turnout in the November 20 assembly polls in the state, Darekar credited the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for their grassroots campaign to encourage voting. The final turnout in Maharashtra assembly polls was 66.05 per cent, up from 61.1 per cent in 2019, according to the Election Commission. Whos got Maha edge? High rural vote count key
MUMBAI: The rise in voting by almost 4% in the Maharashtra assembly elections against the 2019 figures has led the states political adversaries to claim an edge over each other. According to the Election Commission, 65.2% voting took place in Wednesdays polls. The count was 61.4% in 2019. In the Lok Sabha elections, 61.39% polling was reported. The voter turnout in the Assembly polls has turned out the highest in three decades. The state last recorded a higher turnout in 1995, with 71.7%. In Wednesdays voting, 97.02 million voters were eligible to vote across 288 constituencies. Rural areas, known for higher voter engagement, led the way, with the Karvir constituency in Kolhapur topping the charts at 84.79%. Gadchiroli district also recorded voter participation at 73.68%. In contrast, urban centres such as Mumbai recorded 52.07% turnout, while Mumbai Suburban recorded 55.77% and Thane 56.05%. Mumbais Colaba constituency improved from 40% in 2019 to 44.49% this election. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said a higher turnout has always benefited the BJP. The Ladli Bahena scheme is a major factor behind the rise in the turnout. Women voters came out in huge numbers to vote for MahaYuti, he said. I personally spoke with people in about 25 seats and was told about the higher women turnout. They voted for MahaYuti. State Congress chief Nana Patole said the party was confident of winning. There is huge anti-incumbency against the government. Thats why the voting percentage has gone up, he said. He said there was anger among farmer and rural communities over fall in cotton, soyabean and turmeric prices which resulted in more people coming out to vote, Patole said. However, observers agree that urban apathy could skew election results in favour of rural constituencies, making their votes even more decisive in closely contested regions. They refer to Mumbai, which is home to 36 constituencies and a significant chunk of Maharashtras electorate.

Congress may take call on joining Omar govt after winter session of House
SRINAGAR: With the conclusion of the Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the Congress is likely to take a call on joining the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government in J&K after the winter session of Parliament. Ahead of the formation of the Omar Abdullah government, the Congress had decided not to join the government till J&Ks statehood was restored. It had contested the Assembly polls in alliance with NC on the plank restoration of statehood to J&K. On August 5, 2019 the Centre scrapped J&Ks special status and downgraded and bifurcated the erstwhile J&K state into two Union Territories. Sources in Congress said the party had decided against joining the Omar government in view of Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand to prevent BJP from targeting the grand old party for aligning with NC, which is demanding restoration of Article 370 and passed a resolution in J&K Assembly on the restoration of J&Ks special status and constitutional guarantees. Despite not being part of the NC-led government, the Congress faced attacks from the BJP in the poll campaign for both states over Article 370. The party had initially decided to review the decision not to join the Omar government after the completion of Maharashtra and Jharkhand polls. Since Parliament session will begin on Monday and all top leaders will be busy, the call on joining the government will be taken after its conclusion, a senior Congress leader said. The Congress won six seats in the 90-member Assembly and is supporting Omar Abdullah led-government in J&K. Ours is a national party and Congress is the biggest party of the INDIA bloc. For us power is not important but we have sent a message to the people of J&K that we will continue to fight for restoration of statehood, a senior Congress leader said.
VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan recalls statement, says he too wanted to be CM
DINDIGUL: Recalling a statement he had made 20 years ago, VCK founder and Chidambaram Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumavalavan said he too had wished to become the chief minister. Addressing a public gathering in Palani, Thirumavalavan said, When I stepped into politics, I vowed to make common and underprivileged people a powerful and strong force, ensuring that the last man tastes the sweetness of democracy and the poor gain the key to govern and rule. But it is not easy. A few reporters asked me when will I become the CM. It is not the question of becoming the CM or PM, but what is important is raising the status of weaker communities. Twenty years ago, I gave an interview to a magazine and mentioned that I too wish and dream to become the CM. This doesnt mean I alone want to become the CM. It means that a common man should come to power, he said. Currently, we have just placed a dot, and we need more dots to create a koolam. To create a large koolam, we need several hundred dots. Similarly, after taking just one step, we cannot capture power. Many people, even before starting a political party, dream of capturing power in the state. We are slowly growing and have become an unavoidable force in state politics. We have entered Maharashtra and other states, but we need to strengthen our organisation structurally. To this end, we have announced the appointment of a district secretary for each assembly seat, Thirumavalavan said.

Karnataka countrys second largest milk producer, claims CM Siddaramaiah
BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was on a visit to New Delhi on Thursday, declared that Karnataka has emerged as the second-largest milk producer in India, after Gujarat. The states 16 milk unions produce about 1 crore litres of milk daily. Karnataka has started supplying 2.5 lakh litres of milk daily to New Delhi, with plans to increase this to 5 lakh litres in six months. Creating a strong market for milk products is crucial for the growth of the dairy industry and wellbeing of farmers, he said. Speaking at the launch of Nandini milk variants, organised by the Karnataka Milk Producers Federation (KMF) and Mandya District Cooperative Milk Union, he credited the states success to the strong support given to the dairy sector. We formed milk producers associations to ensure farmers got fair prices and a permanent market for their produce, he said. He elaborated as the state produces 92-93 lakh litres of milk on a daily basis, out of which 2.5 lakh litres are sent to Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Through the Ksheeradhare Scheme, milk is purchased at Rs 32 per litre, with an additional Rs 5 per litre incentive given by the government, he added. When I became CM, I increased this incentive to Rs 5 per litre, the highest so far. The state spends Rs 5 crore every day on these incentives, he claimed.

Mumbai: Tata Motors, India's leading automobile company, today released its 10th Annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, celebrating the transformative impact of its strategic community interventions. Highlighting the sustainable impact made on the lives of over 1 million people, this milestone report, titled Building Together a Million Dreams, is dedicated to the crucial role that partnerships have played throughout this decade-long journey. With more than 40 percent of beneficiaries belonging to the SC and ST communities, Tata Motors has significantly broadened its CSR footprint beyond the proximate communities, reaching 94 aspirational districts across 26 states and 8 union territories. Commenting on the launch of the 10th Annual CSR Report, Vinod Kulkarni, Head of CSR at Tata Motors, said, We are immensely proud of the strides we have made in transforming over one million lives through our committed CSR initiatives. Our innovative More for Less for More strategy has empowered us to drive efficiencies, adopt technology, optimise resources and scale up programmes, broadening our reach and deepening our impact nationwide. This success is a testament to the unwavering support of our partners and the trust of the communities we serve. As we advance, we remain dedicated to addressing critical social issues and leveraging government schemes to promote sustainable development in education, health, employability, and environmental protection. Throughout the year, Tata Motors emphasised on the convergence of strength across the government, non-government, and private sectors to implement focussed social interventions in Health (Aarogya), Education (Vidyadhanam), Employability (Kaushalya), and Environment (Vasundhara), with a special emphasis on Water Conservation and Integrated Village Development. Key highlights of Tata Motors' CSR report for FY24 Advancing Water Security Through a partnership with NAAM Foundation, MGNREGA Department, and the Government of Maharashtra, Tata Motors has rejuvenated and developed 106 water bodies in rural Maharashtra under the Government of Indias Amrit Sarovar Mission. This initiative to date has created a capacity of 1,860 million litres of water across Palghar, Pune, and Satara districts, enhancing agricultural productivity, raising water tables, providing access to potable water, and ensuring year-round irrigation. Enhancing Rural Livelihoods Through Integrated Community Development Tata Motors adopts a holistic approach to engage with rural communities with a specific focus on strengthening local governance. The Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP), which began in the tribal block of Jawahar in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, has now been replicated in proximate communities of other plant locations like Pune, Sanand, Jamshedpur and Lucknow. Expanding its engagement to five-gram panchayats in Jawahar, IVDP has reduced migration from 45 percent to 25 percent, increased average household income by 60 percent, and ensured year-round availability of water in this tribal belt. Tata Motors has transformed the barren hamlet of Navapara in Ahmedabad district, inhabited by an underprivileged tribal community. With year-round access to potable water, 190 of the 230 households have adopted fishery as the key source of income. Migration of the community has reduced by 40 percent and there is a 10 percent decline in the rate of school dropouts Creating a Greener and More Sustainable Environment In collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra and the BAIF Institute under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme, Tata Motors has planted 1.7 million saplings across Palghar district in Maharashtra, benefiting 13,000 farmers and converting 13,000 acres of unutilised farmland to productive use. Tata Motors Urban Forestry initiative, in partnership with the TERRE Policy Centre, has planted 125,000 trees over a cumulative area of 200 hectares in and around Pune. These urban forests absorb 300,000 kg of carbon annually, protect biodiversity, and improve air quality. Empowering Students through Enhanced Educational Support The Engineering NEET Admission Bridge Accelerated Learning Engagement (ENABLE) Programme, in collaboration with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Avanti Fellows, and Ex-Navodaya Foundation, supports over 550 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas with coaching, live classes, and mock tests for JEE and NEET exams. Annually, ENABLE coaches and counsels 18,000 science students of Std XI and Std XII via a digital platform to prepare for medical and engineering entrance examinations. In 2023-24, 27 percent of students from the ENABLE online programme qualified for IIT JEE while 79 percent qualified in the NEET exams. Building New Career Paths for Youth Learn, Earn and Progress (LEAP), a flagship social responsibility programme, imparts auto trade skills in Motor Mechanic Vehicles (MMV) to youths from underserved communities, especially school dropouts who lack the skills to be employed. Partnering with ITIs, Skills for Progress (SKIP), and Tata Motors dealers, it provides three months of theory training followed by nine months of On-Job-Training (OJT). With its footprint in 16 states, LEAP trains around 1500 youth annually, ~80 percent of whom get placed within or outside the Tata Motors ecosystem. A significant segment of LEAPs beneficiaries are first-generation learners. Improving the livelihood of the tribals' Despite having first and natural rights over forest produce, tribal families from Junnar and Ambegaon talukas in Pune district of Maharashtra were not permitted by the government to undertake commercial purchase or sale of hirda berries. In 2020, a Farmers Producer Group (FPG) was established under the guidance of Tata Motors and Shashwat Sanstha to train and employ local youth for the procurement and sale of hirda. The FPG has grown from 300 families in 11 villages to over 5,000 families across four talukas. The real-time, fair pricing provided to the farmers has resulted in generating INR 4 crore in revenue over four years. This initiative has enhanced family incomes, arrested migration, and promoted sustainable agricultural practices. Holistic Health Initiatives In 2023-24 the Malnutrition Treatment Centre (MTC) in Jamshedpur, in partnership with Parivar Kalyan Sansthan (PKS), extended its healthcare services in remote areas and increased capacity-building programmes for the Anganwadi workers. MTC, which treats 5,500 children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) annually, achieved more than two-fold growth in its outreach. Building on this success, Tata Motors has expanded its efforts to combat malnutrition by collaborating with the Institute of Social Development (ISD) and the Child Development Department in Uttarakhand to establish the Parvarish Kendras and improve the quality of life of vulnerable communities. Strengthening Employee Volunteering Tata Motors undertook transformative measures to fortify volunteering as an organisational culture. The company reported the highest-ever employee participation of 59 percent as they volunteered 1,17,000 hours for community service.
