Move for High Court bench at Kurnool gains momentum
Kurnool: Amid protests by advocates against the proposed shifting of legal bodies like Lokayukta and AP State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) from Kurnool to Amaravati, a letter from the law secretary of the state to registrar general of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, dated October 28, has gone viral on social media. The letter requests the registrar general to follow up with Government of India regarding the establishment of an AP High Court bench in Kurnool. The demand for such a bench in Kurnool stems from lack of proper conveyance between Kurnool and Amaravati. While the previous government temporarily appeased local sentiments by shifting some legal bodies from Vijayawada and Hyderabad to Kurnool, the larger demand for a High Court bench remained unaddressed. On November 14, the government's advocate informed the High Court on the planned relocation of institutions like Lokayukta and APSHRC to Amaravati. The announcement sparked widespread dissatisfaction, prompting local advocates to boycott court activities from November 19, despite industries minister T.G. Bharath's reassurances that no such proposals exist. Advocates countered, citing the government advocate's statement as the basis for their ongoing protests. The letter dated October 28 that has gone viral on social media states that as per the Chief Minister's assurance during the Praja Galam programme, action needs to be taken to establish a High Court bench at Kurnool. It points out that there are similar arrangements in other states, where high courts have benches in different locations to enhance accessibility to people. Their examples include Madras High Courts bench at Madurai, Bombay High Courts benches at Nagpur and Aurangabad, and the Guwahati High Court's multiple benches in north-eastern states. Rayalaseema, with a population of 1.59 crore, accounts for over 25 per cent of AP's population. The state government argues that absence of direct train services between Kurnool and Vijayawada and the significant share of High Court cases originating from the region justify the creation of a bench. The letter, signed by law secretary V. Sunitha, highlighted these points while underscoring the need for the Chief Justice of the High Court to approve the proposal and for the High Court to pursue the matter with the Government of India. The agitating advocates have welcomed the state government's move. But they have vowed to continue their agitation against the proposed relocation of legal institutions to Amaravati. Senior advocates Jayaraju and Balaram emphasised their commitment to the cause, stating that their movement will persist until the government officially announces its decision to establish the bench and ensure retention of the existing legal bodies in Kurnool. Jayaraju and Balaram questioned why the government had not released the letter earlier, especially when there has been a longstanding demand for establishment of the High Court bench in Kurnool.

Seeking justice in times of regression
CHENNAI: More than two decades ago, a Maharashtrian woman died by suicide a little over four months after she was married. When you type a sentence like that out, it occurs to you how commonplace something like this is in the broader story of Indian womanhood. Death by purported kitchen accident or death by suicide in the first few years after marriage is not particularly shocking in this context, although it should be, and if one does not linger on that sentence, it would simply be a single pixel in a larger picture. When that particular woman died in 2002, however, her family of origin pressed charges. Her husband and in-laws were convicted in 2004 under Indian Penal Codes Sections 498A (cruelty inflicted on a woman by her husband or his relatives) and 306 (abetment to suicide). But this October, a single-judge Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court gave them an acquittal. In the brief months of her marriage, some of the experiences that the deceased woman was subjected to included: being taunted for her cooking skills, being made to sleep on a carpet, not being permitted to do activities during which she may interact with other people on her own (such as leaving the house to throw garbage, visiting the temple or talking to neighbours) and not being allowed to watch TV. According to her in-laws, the suicide took place two months after her last visit to their village, Varangaon. In the acquittal order, Justice Abhay S. Waghwase stated that none of the allegations has any severity or such nature of allegations would not constitute physical and mental cruelty as almost allegations are pertaining to domestic affairs of the house of accused. (sic) The order also said that, There is no evidence to show that at that relevant point or any proximity to the suicide, there was any demand, cruelty or mal-treatment so as to connect them with the suicidal death. What triggered the suicide has remained a mystery. What a trial court understood twenty years ago that curtailing a persons freedom in a hundred mundane ways adds up to cruelty, and that it is reasonable to connect that cruelty with a serious decline in mental well-being has been reversed by a contemporary court. This isnt only regressive. It is regression. If that deceased woman had been in that situation today, she may have opted for a divorce. She may have done so with the support of her loved ones. Perhaps, but not necessarily. Such hopeful scenarios have become more acceptable in India in the time since her demise. But the amount of agency required to leave an abusive household, and the quantum of internal and material resources required to execute that successfully, are frequently underestimated. There will be no justice for the deceased woman, and perhaps such a thing could only ever have been symbolic. Somewhere in this country many somewheres her situation is being replayed, still. For countless people, a legal precedent that dismisses quotidian, cumulative forms of harm presents a setback regarding how their plight will be considered by their families, by society and indeed in the eyes of the law.
Many voters may take until the final day or even the last moment to decide their candidate of choice its difficult to blame them when there is so much fragmentation in the party system; but most voters from working and underprivileged classes affirm livelihood issues matter to them the most

Uddhav seeks BJP workers help to defeat Shinde Senas Abdul Sattar
Mumbai : Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday urged BJP workers to join him to defeat Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Senas candidate Abdul Sattar. Addressing an election rally in Sillod assembly constituency, where Mr. Sattar is contesting, Mr.Thackeray said it was an opportunity for his party and BJP to remove blot (Mr. Sattar) from Sillod. Mr. Sattar, who is a minister in the Eknath Shinde cabinet, is a three-term MLA from Sillod. Mr. Sattar and his kin have grabbed land in Soygaon and Sillod. He has also tried to usurp government plots. The poll office here is on land he possesses illegally. We will probe all this if we come to power, Mr. Thackeray said Sillod Assembly constituency is part of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, which was earlier known as Aurangabad. Mr. Sattar had won from Sillod in 2009 and 2014 on a Congress ticket. However, he joined the Shiv Sena before the 2019 election. Interestingly, he was a minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi cabinet led by Uddhav Thackeray as the chief minister. He was among the 40 Shiv Sena MLAs, who joined Eknath Shindes rebellion against Mr. Thackeray in 2022. Mr. Thackeray urged his party workers to come together with BJP cadres to defeat Mr. Sattar. Further making an appeal to BJP workers, he said, We have our differences. If anyone is ready to talk to me from your side, then I am also ready for it.. But all of us must come together to remove this blot (from Sillod). This is our opportunity. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modis rally held at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Thursday, Mr. Thackeray alleged that Muslim women wearing black clothes were not allowed to attend the PMs rally. Responding to Mr. Thackerays speech, Mr. Sattar said, He is agitated as his government was toppled. He fears that his candidate will lose his deposit in Sillod, which is why he has started licking the feet of the BJP. Imagine how scared he is. He is campaigning against the BJP everywhere in Maharashtra, but pleading for BJPs help here. He needs to be admitted to a mental hospital. Calling it an indication of MVA leaders realisation about their imminent defeat, BJP minister Girish Mahajan said, Why do they need to make such a statement. It is clear that the Maha Vikas Aghadi knows they would be defeated in the elections.
Maharashtra Sugarcane Cutters and Transport Association has approached the Aurangabad High Court Bench, seeking directions to the Election Commission to ensure that these voters are not deprived of their right to vote
Over 12 lakh workers likely to miss voting in Maharashtra polls: Sugarcane cutters' body
Pune: More than 12 lakh sugarcane cutters from Marathwada, north Maharashtra, and Vidarbha could miss their opportunity to vote in the upcoming state assembly elections on November 20. With the cane crushing season set to commence on November 15, lakhs of cutters from various districts have already migrated to the sugarcane belts in western Maharashtra and many other states, according to the Maharashtra Sugarcane Cutters and Transport Association. The association has approached the Aurangabad High Court Bench, seeking directions to the Election Commission to ensure that this large group of voters is not deprived of their right to exercise their franchise. However, the West Indian Sugar Mills Association, claimed that proper arrangements would be made to send the workers to their hometowns to get their fingers inked on November 20. In their petition, Jeevan Rathod, president of the Maharashtra Sugarcane Cutters and Transport Association, said that 12-15 lakh cutters from Marathwada, north Maharashtra, and Vidarbha move to sugarcane cultivation regions in western Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu before the harvesting season. With the current harvesting season underway, a significant number of sugarcane cutters have already left their homes and migrated to other regions for work, and they will not return until April or May 2025, Rathod stated in his petition. Speaking to PTI, Rathod expressed concerns over the large-scale migration. If such a large section of the population is absent from exercising their franchise, it defeats the purpose of participative democracy, he said. In the fragmented polity of Maharashtra, which has six key parties, the votes of these migrant workers are important as the victory margins are expected to be thin, said a political observer. In their plea, the association has requested the court to direct the Election Commission to make suitable arrangements like providing postal ballots or transportation to allow the migrant workers to travel to their native places to vote and return to their workplaces. They also urged the court to direct the state's Sugar Commissioner to coordinate with the Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation Limited, West Indian Sugar Mills Association, and all sugar mills to declare a holiday for these workers on election day. Among the country's top sugar producers, Maharashtra has over 200 private and cooperative sugar mills. The state produced about 110 lakh tonnes of sugar last year. Sunil Rathod, the petitioner's lawyer, said the court on Wednesday inquired about the measures taken to facilitate voting for soldiers and government employees deployed in border areas, suggesting that similar provisions could be considered for the migrant sugarcane workers. The court has not given any directions but just inquired about the measures, he said. He said notices have been issued to the state government, Sugar Commissioner, Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation Ltd and West Indian Sugar Mills Association. BB Thombare, president of the West Indian Sugar Mills Association, insisted that the workers won't be deprived of their voting rights and assured that proper arrangements would be made for their transportation to their respective constituencies. Generally, the crushing season starts in the first week of November and if polls are around this corner, we ensure that the sugarcane cutters visit their native places. On that day, the operations at the factories are kept shut. This time too, the practice will be followed, he said. Due to assembly elections, the cane crushing season is starting on November 15 this year, Thombare said. After the petition in the court, the government has proposed to the Sugar Commissioner to start the crushing season from November 25, he said. While there are around 5 lakh sugarcane cutters, the number of sugarcane growers is about 50 lakh. If there is a delay in the crushing season, the growers will suffer losses as the yield reduces. The next crop will also be delayed if sugarcane is not harvested in time, he said. Thomabre added that after follow-ups with the Sugar Commissioner, an order was issued on Thursday night permitting sugarcane crushing from November 15.
Modi raps Opposition on Maratha pride
MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attacked the Opposition in Maharashtra, accusing them of having a problem with Sambhaji Maharajs name. Modi was addressing a rally at Sambhaji Nagar in the poll-bound state. He said those who see their messiah in a person who killed the Maratha warrior-king stood against the state and the Maratha pride. Arent these people against our identity? Will Maharashtra ever accept such people? he said. Sambhaji Maharaj was the son of Maratha icon Chhatrapati Shivaji. He was killed by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The PM attacked the Congress, saying it is against reservation and development. To form the government, the Congress party believes in creating divisions and not development. From the beginning, Congress has been against reservation. Old advertisements which are going viral on the internet nowadays show the real thinking of Congress about reservations, said the PM. He said Congress called reservation benefits against the country. The Congress mentality and agenda remain the same even today. For the last 10 years, it is tough for them to tolerate a PM who belongs to the OBCs, he added. He said the MahaYuti government renamed Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and fulfilled Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackerays wish. In Raigarh districts Panvel, the PM said Congress always worked to keep the poor as poor. The Congress gave the false slogan Garibi hatao, but nothing was done for the poor people, Modi said. Renamed Aurangabad Prime Minister Narendra Modi said BJP-led MahaYuti government renamed Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and fulfilled Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackerays wish.
MVA bargains with Indias honour: PM
Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday alleged that the Congress and its allies want to restore Article 370 and a separate Constitution for Jammu and Kashmir. Modi addressed three election rallies in the day at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Panvel and Shivaji Park in Mumbai. He slammed the Congress and its allies Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) for the alleged appeasement politics and creating caste divisions among SCs, OBCs and STs. Accusing the MVA parties of compromising Indias honour for their vote bank politics, Modi said, Leaders of Maha Vikas Aghadi have become slaves to appeasement. The leaders of Maha Vikas Aghadi opposed the construction of Ram Temple. For the sake of votes, they used the words like Bhagwa aatankwad. They disrespect Veer Savarkar. They passed a resolution in J&K for the restoration of Article 370. Modi said MVA was an alliance of people who consider Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb their messiah but it was the Mahayuti government that renamed Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and fulfilled Balasaheb Thackerays wish. Addressing a rally in Mumbai, the Prime Minister said Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has handed over partys remote control to the Congress party. I challenged you to get the Congress Prince to praise Bala Saheb Thackeray. Make Rahul Gandhi say Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray. Till date these people have not been able to get the Congress and the Prince of Congress to praise Balasaheb, he said. Modi also said it was his last election rally in Maharashtra and sought peoples blessings for the Mahayuti government. I want to continue to serve you and for that I need the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra. Mumbaikars can see the scale at which we are undertaking development works. In order to continue that, we need the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra so that there is no hindrance in the development work, he said. Earlier, addressing a rally at Panvel, the Prime Minister said that the Congress gave the Garibi Hatao slogan, but looted the poor. He alleged that Congress mentality was to ensure that the poor did not progress so that the Congress party remained in power. The Congress is far ahead when it comes to vote bank politics, but is the enemy of the poor, he said. The Prime Minister also accused Congress of opposing reservations and trying to divide Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) by splitting them into smaller castes in order to weaken them. The Congress used to say that reservations were against the country. It considered reservations against merit. The mentality and agenda of the Congress remains unchanged. Therefore, they cant come to terms with the fact that someone from OBC has been the Prime Minister of the country for the last 10 years, he said.

Fight is between believers of Sambhaji Maharaj & Aurangazeb: PM Modi on Maha polls
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday accused Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) of not renaming Aurangabad after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj (a Maratha military king).
Cong wants separate Constitution in Kashmir: Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress and its allies of plotting to have a separate Constitution for Kashmir and working to restore Article 370. Addressing a rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, Modi claimed the Congress is speaking the language of Pakistan and that every Indian wants only Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution in Kashmir. He also highlighted the BJP's fulfillment of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's wish by renaming Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, emphasizing the Congress's opposition to the decision. Modi further contrasted the BJP's focus on national pride and development with the Congress's alleged support for Aurangzeb. He pointed out the BJP's achievements in granting classical language status to Marathi and attracting maximum FDI in Maharashtra after forming the Mahayuti government.
'Agadhi wale boond boond ke liye tarsayenge,' says PM Modi in Maharashtra

Even if Indira Gandhi returns from heaven, Article 370 will not be restored: Amit Shah
PARBHANI/JALGAON/DHULE: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday asserted that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, will not be restored even if Congress stalwart and late PM Indira Gandhi comes down from heaven. The BJP's star campaigner sought to corner the Congress over Muslim reservation and accused the main opposition party of deliberately stalling construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya for years. With just a week left for the high-stakes assembly polls in Maharashtra, Shah stepped up his campaigning for the ruling Mahayuti front, of which the BJP is a member, and addressed three rallies in a day where he attacked the Congress and its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ally Shiv Sena (UBT). Addressing a rally at Dhule in North Maharashtra, Shah said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should remember that even if his fourth generation were to come, Muslims won't get reservations meant for Dalits, tribals and other backward castes. A few days ago, Ulemas (Muslim scholars) met the president of Congress party and said Muslims should be given reservation (in jobs and education). If reservation has to be given to Muslims, then reservation for SCs/STs/OBCs will have to be cut. Rahul Baba, not only you but even if your four generations were to come, they cannot cut the quota meant for SCs/STs/OBCs and give it to Muslims, Shah insisted. The Union minister made it clear that Article 370, scrapped in 2019 by the BJP-led central government, won't be restored under any circumstances. PM Modi accuses Congress of 'dangerous intentions' on reservations, vows to protect 'roti, beti, maati' in Jharkhand Even if Indira Gandhi were to return from heaven, Article 370 won't be restored, the BJP stalwart told the gathering. Describing the opposition MVA grouping as an Aurangzeb Fan Club, Shah noted the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance abides by the ideals of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. At another election meeting in Jalgaon, also in North Maharashtra, the former BJP president averred that if the MVA wins the November 20 assembly polls, the state will turn into an ATM (automated teller machine) for the Congress. They (MVA) will withdraw funds from Maharashtra by using the state's resources and send the money to Delhi. In contrast, if the BJP-led Mahayuti forms a government, the Modi administration will ensure greater development for Maharashtra, Shah said at the meeting in Chalisgaon town. Targeting Gandhi, the Lok Sabha MP from Raebareli, he accused his party of making false promises and misleading people. Recently, Rahul Gandhi was seen waving a copy of Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution. He used the same copy while taking the oath in Parliament. When some journalists got their hands on the very copy, it had blank pages. By showing a fake Constitution, Rahul broke the trust of people and insulted Babasaheb. Apparently, you have never read the Constitution, Rahul baba, Shah said. The Sonia-Manmohan regime didn't act against Naxalism and terrorism for 10 years (2004-14) due to vote bank politics, the home minister opined. Supreme Court to Ajit Pawar's NCP: Stop using Sharad Pawar's photos, videos; Stand on your own legs The entire Congress politics runs on deception. They are saying that after the formation of the Mahayuti government (in June 2022), investment in Maharashtra has reduced. The truth is after the formation of the government of (CM) Eknath Shinde and (deputy CM) Devendra Fadnavis, our Maharashtra is No.1 state in FDI inflows in India, he said. A Mahayuti government post-polls will work more for the welfare of women, farmers and other sections of society, Shah maintained. Your one vote will not only form a Mahayuti government but your one vote will also deposit Rs 2,100 in the account of Maharashtra's beloved sisters. Your one vote will result in depositing Rs 15,000 instead of Rs 12,000 annually in farmers' account, he said. The BJP leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guarantee is like 'patthar ki lakeer' (carved in stone), whereas the Congress reneged on pre-poll promises in Telangana, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh after coming to power in these states. Targeting NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar, Shah said the senior politician served as Maharashtra CM and also as a Union minister for many years, but did not do anything to give classical language status to Marathi. At his third rally at Jintur in Parbhani district in the Marathwada region, Shah averred that Congress MP Gandhi, who has been campaigning for the MVA in Maharashtra, will fail once again. Sonia ji tried to land the plane named Rahul Baba 20 times and 20 times the plane crashed. Now again, an attempt is being made to land the plane for the 21st time in Maharashtra. Sonia ji, your Rahul plane is going to crash for the 21st time, the BJP leader opined. Shah accused the Congress of deliberately stalling construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya for years. PM Modi built the Ram temple and also constructed the Kashi Vishwanath corridor (in Varanasi) which was demolished by (Mughal emperor) Aurangzeb. Now, you should be ready to visit Gujarat as the Somnath temple is also being made of gold, he told the gathering. Modi has made the country safe and prosperous, Shah said. I have visited all the places like Vidarbha, North Maharashtra, West Maharashtra, Konkan, Mumbai, Marathwada. Do you want to know the result of assembly polls? Listen to me, on November 23 (result day), the Maha Vikas Aghadi is going to be wiped out from Maharashtra, he declared. Shah said Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, a former BJP ally, is now in alliance with those who opposed renaming Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Vote for double engine government to ensure speedy development of Maharashtra: PM Modi

Our ancestors did jihad against British, yours wrote love letters: Owaisi to Fadnavis
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has targeted Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis over his vote jihad remarks, claiming the BJP leader's (ideological) ancestors wrote love letters to Britishers instead of fighting against them. During a public meeting here on Sunday, Owaisi also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ek Hai to Safe Hai slogan goes against the diversity ethos. Fadnavis on Saturday claimed vote jihad had begun in poll-bound Maharashtra, which should be countered by Dharma yuddha of vote. He had mentioned the BJP's narrow loss in Dhule Lok Sabha constituency. Countering him, Owaisi said, Our ancestors did jihad against Britishers and Fadnavis is now teaching us about jihad. (PM) Narendra Modi, (Union minister) Amit Shah, and Devendra Fadnavis together cannot defeat me in a debate. Owaisi claimed the dharmayuddha-jihad remarks amounted to poll code violation. From where did 'vote jihad and dharmayuddha' come in democracy? You purchased MLAs; should we call you a thief? the Hyderabad MP questioned. While Fadnavis talks about (vote) jihad, his hero was writing love letters to Britishers, whereas our freedom fighters did not negotiate with the foreign rulers, he said. We gave the method of fighting against the British. He (Fadnavis) said 'vote jihad' after they (BJP) didn't get votes in Malegaon (during Lok Sabha election). When they fail to get votes, they call it jihad. They lost in Ayodhya. How did that happen? Owaisi questioned. Our ancestors did jihad against Britishers, not yours. Fadnavis, whose ancestors were writing love letters to the British, will teach us jihad? he added in a veiled attack on Hindutva ideologues revered by the BJP. Modi says 'Ek Hai to Safe Hai' because they (BJP) want to end the diversity of this country, the AIMIM leader said, adding the Maratha community was betrayed by rulers who failed to give them reservation. Owaisi claimed many industrial projects went to Gujarat but Fadnavis showed no courage to stop them. Was he afraid of Narendra Modi? he asked. Referring to a controversy over Hindutva seer Ramgiri Maharaj's statements, Owaisi said remarks against the Prophet won't be tolerated. He appealed to people to come out to vote on November 20. Our victory in Aurangabad will be saluted by the people of India, he added. Owaisi addressed a public meeting in Jinsi area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in support of AIMIM candidates Imtiaz Jaleel (Aurangabad East) and Naser Siddiqui (Aurangabad Central) for the November 20 assembly elections.
Now, Congress and AIMIMs Owaisi are on the same page: How both ally with SDPI during elections
Similarly, the SDPI has also supported AIMIM candidate from Aurangabad constituency Imtiaz Jaleel to make sure that the votes of the Muslim community does not get divided.
Owaisi counters PM Modi's unity call, urges justice and constitutional respect for India's safety
HYDERABAD: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi stated that India is safe if justice prevails and there is a respect for the constitution while reacting to PM Modis ek hai toh safe hai (people are safe when united) remark, initially delivered in a public meeting in Jharkhand accusing Congress of caste divide in society. Speaking at a public meeting in Aurangabad while campaigning for the upcoming assembly elections in the state, Owaisi said, Modi and RSS are calling for unity. I want to tell him that if there is justice, India is safe; if there is constitution, there is respect, if Ambedkars legacy lives, then Godses ideology is dead. But PM Modi is creating Maratha versus OBCs. They want to pit people against each other and make fights. Dont believe in his conspiracy, and added, But Majlis (AIMIM) says if we are many, then we are undivided. Speaking in Jharkhand, PM Modi had recently accused Congress of creating a caste division in society by pitting the subgroups of OBCs against each other. He reiterated his allegations during a public meeting in Maharashtra. If Modi says ek hai toh safe hai, then why did he claim in Rajasthan during Parliament elections that mangalsutras (ornament) of women from the Hindu community will be snatched away and given to Muslim women. If it is ek hai toh safe hai then answer Modi, whose blood was flowing in Delhi near your house and who was turned into a homeless person, the MP said.
Our ancestors did jihad against Britishers, but yours penned 'love letters': Owaisi to Fadnavis
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi criticized Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis's vote jihad remarks, alleging that the BJP leader's ancestors collaborated with the British. Owaisi argued that the BJP invokes jihad when they lose elections and accused them of undermining India's diversity. He urged voters to support AIMIM candidates in the upcoming Aurangabad elections.

`Vote jihad must be countered in Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024`
The BJP leader was speaking at a rally in support of Mahayuti coalition candidates Atul Save (Aurangabad East), Sanjay Shirsat (Aurangabad West) and Pradip Jaiswal (Aurangabad Central) for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024
Maharashtra polls: Friendly face-offs between allies in 29 out of 288 assembly seats
Mumbai: The November 20 Maharashtra election will witness friendly contests among the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies in 29 out of 288 assembly seats. Friendly fights, however, are more complicated for the MVA, especially since smaller parties who are part of the INDIA bloc are also in the mix. The ruling Mahayuti's partners BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress, will contest alongside each other in six seats Mankhurd Shivajinagar (Mumbai), Ashti (Beed), Sindhkhed Raja (Buldhana), Katol (Nagpur), Morshi (Amravati), Dindori (Nashik), Shrirampur (Ahmednagar) and Purandar (Pune). The opposition alliance of the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP) and Congress will engage in such face-offs in 21 assembly constituencies. One of the major fights will take place in the Nanded North seat, where Congress's Abdul Gaffoor is in the fray with Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Sangita Patil. In most constituencies, MVA allies are contesting alongside candidates fielded by the Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWPI), Samajwadi Party and the Left. The Samajwadi Party has fielded eight candidates and will be contesting alongside the Congress on six seats, namely Bhiwandi West (Thane), Tuljapur (Dharashiv), Aurangabad East (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Malegaon Central (Nashik) and with NCP SP in Paranda (Dharashiv), and Shiv Sena UBT in Dhule City assembly seats. The PWPI has fielded candidates on 14 seats and is in contest with the Shiv Sena (UBT) in Sangole, Loha, Pen, Uran, Ausa, Malegaon Outer and Panvel, and with NCP (SP) in Katol. A PWPI leader said they had sought six seats where they are in serious contest. However, the bigger parties fielded candidates despite our strong presence in these constituencies, he said. The leader said the party had to field candidates wherever it has influence, as it needed to fulfil the electoral criteria of getting the desired number of votes. Asked about the possibility of eating into the alliance's votes, he said, It will happen. But what can we do? We sought seats from bigger parties, but they remained adamant. In an interview earlier this year, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi said the Maha Vikas Aghadi should have fought the polls as a united front, but it had not even called his party for talks. He said, They (MVA) think they can win the polls on their strength, and there is no need for us (SP). Solapur City Central will see a contest between the CPM's Narsaya Adam and the Congress, while in the Wani constituency, CPI's Hepat and Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Sanjay Derkar are in the fray. In Mahayuti, the Shiv Sena and the NCP are in a friendly contest in Purandar, Dindori, Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, Sindkhedraja and Shrirampur. The NCP and BJP will battle it in Katol, Morshi and Ashti.

Software engineer lost Rs 2.29 cr in stock market fraud
Hyderabad: The cybercrime wing of the Cyberabad police on Wednesday arrested two persons in connection with an investment fraud and five other accused are absconding. Police arrested the two accused Naresh Shinde and Saurabh Shinde from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The first five accused were managers and organisers of the Kotak Pro web application, which is not related to Kotak Bank. The victim in this case was defrauded by the web application. He was lured to invest in the allotments of initial public offers (IPOs) with the promise of high returns in a short time. Police said the victim, a software engineer, filed the complaint on the fraudulent stock investment on October 8. He joined a WhatsApp group named B2231 KSL Official Stock which claimed to have focused on stock market trading and skill building, led by Narayan Jindal, Anjali and their associates. The team claimed to provide profitable trading insights. After being convinced by them, the complainant registered himself on a fake trading platform named Kotakpro and transferred nearly `2.29 crore into the platform to apply for shares in the IPOs. Though he got the stocks and showed a virtual profit, he faced obstacles when he tried to withdraw the funds. The suspects demanded additional payments under various pretenses, leading the victim to realise he had been deceived. Investigation revealed that the fraudsters operated a deceptive investment scheme through the WhatsApp group. The accused Naresh Shinde is an account supplier and another accused Saurabh Shinde is the account holder to which the victim transferred `50 lakh. Police seized two mobile phones from the accused. The cybercrime police advised citizens to be cautious before making investments or trading on platforms that promise high returns in the short term. People were told to report any such fraud on the cybercrime helpline 1930

Samajwadi Party fields seven candidates in Maharashtra amidst rift with MVA
LUCKNOW: Upset with being allotted just two assembly seats in poll-bound Maharashtra, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced it will field seven candidates, highlighting a rift within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and underscoring what SP leaders describe as a lack of support for smaller INDIA bloc allies. The SP's decision to contest independently comes after the MVA allotted just two seats to the party, a move that SP leaders say exposes a lack of unity and consultation within the opposition alliance. The SP has declared candidates for Bhiwandi East, Bhiwandi West, Tuljapur, Paranda, Aurangabad East, Malegaon Central, and Dhule City assembly seats. According to sources within the SP, the party had demanded a dozen seats from the MVA but decided to proceed with its own slate of candidates after no agreement was reached. Abu Azmi, SP Maharashtra state president, expressed dissatisfaction, saying, They have left only two seats for us. They did not even talk to us that only two seats were allotted to us. We only got to know about it through the media. They did not even invite us for the meeting. In contrast, the MVA has already fielded candidates for six of the constituencies contested by the SP, except Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, where Abu Azmi himself is a candidate, and Bhiwandi West. The SPs announcement follows earlier tensions in Uttar Pradesh, where a seat-sharing arrangement with Congress for nine by-poll-bound seats failed, resulting in Congress withdrawing from the UP bypoll race and leaving the field to the SP. Political experts believe SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's move to contest independently in Maharashtra signals his broader strategy to expand the party's influence beyond Uttar Pradesh and assert independence when alliances do not align with the SP's goals. The party has indicated it is willing to collaborate with the MVA in other constituencies to defeat the BJP. Azmi criticised the Congress for neglecting the lessons of its defeat in Haryana. The Congress had not taken appropriate lessons from its Haryana defeat, he remarked while addressing the media on Wednesday. The SP had aimed for an alliance in Haryana but decided to support Congress across all seats when no partnership materialised. SP sources further claim that the MVA should have adopted a united front but did not involve SP leaders in key discussions. The SP will release its manifesto for Maharashtra on 7th November, with party workers committed to backing the MVA in constituencies where the SP is not fielding candidates. This clash highlights the growing divisions within the INDIA bloc as parties grapple with strategies and power-sharing arrangements in key states.
Parties in Maharashtra have no ideology left in them, says Akbaruddin Owaisi
CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Tuesday accused the political parties in Maharashtra of having no ideology left in them, and said he was being labelled as communal by those who indulge in divisive politics. He also asserted that the country belongs equally to all communities - those wearing turbans and skullcaps and those who sport a tilak on their foreheads. Owaisi, who is All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM)'s MLA from Telangana, was speaking at a public rally at the Amkhas Maidan here to campaign for his party candidates Imtiaz Jaleel, contesting the November 20 Maharashtra assembly polls from Aurangabad East, and Naser Siddiqui from Aurangabad Central. Our party (AIMIM) raises the voice of Muslims, Dalits, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Marathas. I don't give provocative speeches. Those who talk about 'batoge to katoge' (divided we lose) call me communal, he said. Mob lynching, 'ghar wapsi', discourse on cap and beard and differentiating between Hindus and Muslims - don't such things make the country weak?, he asked, and said this country belongs equally to those who wear turbans, apply tilak on their forehead and those who wear (skull) caps on their head. Owaisi, whose party is headquartered in Hyderabad, also hit out at the prominent political parties in Maharashtra. There were four key political parties in 2019. But now there are two Shiv Senas and two NCPs. These parties joined hands with those having different ideologies. But did the Congress teach secularism to its alliance partner Shiv Sena (UBT) or did the latter teach Hindutva to the Congress. There is no party left with any ideology in Maharashtra, he said. He urged Maratha, Muslim and Dalit communities to unite for the development of the Marathwada region. Those leading the Maratha quota agitation should also see that not only their community but the Marathwada region is also backward. We should work together for its development, he said. Speaking on the occasion, Jaleel said, I am contesting the election from a constituency where the highest number of Muslim candidates are in the poll fray. The political rivals are coming together to defeat me. Even Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is visiting the constituency to campaign against me. I appeal to him to have 'naan qalia' (a local non-veg dish) in the city and leave. Maharashtra Assembly polls: 33 contestants in fray for Nanded North seat

Kakinada: East Godavari district collector P. Prashanthi instructed officials to initiate the excavation of 4,000 metric tonnes of sand per day. He also denied reports that Shiv Sena will leave the alliance. The BJP is deliberately trying to spread misinformation about opposition parties. MVA Claims EC Deleting Voters Names Under BJPs Pressure
Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Aghadi on Friday alleged that the names of thousands of voters have been deleted from electoral rolls for the Assembly election at the behest of the BJP-led Mahayuti. Names of 2,500-10,000 voters have been deleted from the rolls of each assembly constituency, the opposition leaders claimed. The MVA has also urged the Election Commission to stop the process of deleting names immediately. Leaders of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) alleged that the EC officials are working under pressure from the BJP. State Congress chief Nana Patole said that the BJP is misusing Form 7 to strike the names of voters. We expect the EC to be impartial and try to increase voter turnout. But there is no transparency in ECs functioning and it is not working impartially. ED officers are working under pressure from the BJP. Names of thousands of voters have been deleted from the electoral rolls. We have received information that it is being done on the instructions of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mr. Patole said. Form 7 is a voter application form for objection for proposed inclusion or deletion of a name in the existing electoral roll. The applicant using Form 7 must be a voter of the same constituency. The application can be an objection in respect of a registered elector or an objection to the proposed inclusion of an entry in the electoral roll of the constituency. The reasons for which names can be deleted include death, under age, permanently shifted, already enrolled in the electoral roll at the same place or some other place, not an Indian citizen etc. The onus of proof to substantiate the reason given for objection or removal of name lies with the applicant. Leader of opposition in the state Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar said, Names are being removed from the areas where the BJP did not get votes during the Lok Sabha election. There is a conspiracy to delete at least 10,000 votes from each of such areas. Form 7 is being misused and therefore the EC must stop accepting these forms. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and leader of the opposition to the legislative council Ambadas Danve claimed that names of 6,000 voters were missing from the list in the Nashik Central assembly seat, and no cognisance was taken about this despite raising the issue with the collector. He also claimed that in Aurangabad Central and Sillod seats, represented by the ruling parties, nearly 27,000 voters were added to the electoral rolls. NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad demanded that the ECI publish a white paper on the voters list. The way the election is being conducted is suspicious. It is shameful, he said. The Election Commission has announced Assembly elections in Maharashtra, which will be held for 288 seats in a single phase. The voting will be held on November 20 and the results will be declared on November 23.
ED attaches properties worth Rs 21.38 crore belonging to Lalu's close aide in money laundering case
PATNA: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs 21.38 crore of former Bihar RJD MLA Arun Yadav, wife and RJD MLA Kiran Devi and his family members in connection with a money laundering case. These include immovable properties including land parcels, flats and palatial residence worth around Rs 19.32 crore and the available balances of nearly Rs 2.05 crore in bank accounts. The central agency also attached properties of Yadav's sons Rajesh Kumar, Dipu Singh and M/s Kiran Durga Construction Pvt. Ltd (family-owned company) under the PMLA, 2002. The immovable properties are located in Agiaon village in the Bhojpur district and in posh areas, including Patliputra. The ED initiated investigation based on four FIRs registered by Bihar Police under various sections of IPC, 1860 and Arms Act, 1959 against former RJD MLA Yadav and others. Yadav faces allegations of being involved in heinous crimes and also in illegal mining and sale of sand. The ED investigation revealed that during the period from 2014-15 to 2022-23, Arun Yadav and his family members have acquired 40 parcels of agricultural land (worth nearly Rs 3.04 crore) through cash. They have also acquired four flats (worth about Rs 2.56 crore) in Danapur and one commercial land (worth Rs 3.44 crore) in Pataliputra Colony, Patna. Yadav also constructed a huge palatial residence in his village Agiaon which is valued at approximately Rs 11.03 crore. ED investigation has also revealed that Yadav has been a syndicate member in the illegal sand mining in the Aurangabad and Rohtas districts of Bihar. The investigation further revealed that during the period of investigation, huge cash deposits in the bank accounts of Yadav and family members (about Rs 8.18 crore) and also in the account of associated entity M/s Kiran Durga Construction Pvt Ltd. Kurnool Struggles With Inadequate Train Services
KURNOOL : Travellers between Kurnool and Vijayawada are facing difficulties due to the absence of a direct train service. At present, passengers first travel to either Nandyal or Dhone by bus to catch a train. Some train services do exist, but they are mostly limited to long-distance routes, making it difficult for passengers to secure seats on them. There is no direct daily train service connecting Vijayawada and Kurnool. Local public representatives have not been applying pressure on the railway authorities to set things right. Notably, many canceled train services have been restored. For instance, a special tri-weekly train from Kurnool to Machilipatnam was cancelled a year ago. Despite the growing demand from the public, it has not been restored. The train service that previously operated from Machilipatnam to Kurnool has been extended only to Mantralayam, leading to demands for daily service that have gone unfulfilled. The situation was further complicated by the plight of devotees and other passengers from the Rayalaseema region visiting Shirdi. Currently, there is a train from Guntur to Aurangabad via Kurnool. Locals suggest that if the service is run from Vijayawada up to Nagarsol, it would benefit those bound for Shirdi. Officials say a pit line plays a crucial role in expanding the train services. This refers to any line in a station excluding the mainline that does not have a platform attached. These lines are typically used for marshalling trains or stabling rakes at terminating or originating trains. Kurnool currently lacks a pit line, which is vital for the basic maintenance and performance testing of trains. As it stands, the nearest pit line is in Tirupati, accessible only after crossing Kacheguda, significantly hampering the train operations in Kurnool. Proposals for setting up a pit line in Kurnool fell on deaf ears. There is a proposal to run a train from Kurnool to Mumbai. Minister TG Bharat recently appealed to the Railways for improved connectivity. We demand that there should be at least one daily train service from Kurnool to Vijayawada and at least two services from Kurnool to Mumbai each week. There is also a pressing need to enhance train connectivity between Nandyal and Kurnool to better serve the community's needs, said K Rangappa, a trader from C-Camp area.

Currently, 26,000 tonnes of sand are available at the Ibrahimpatnam reach in Kukkunuru mandal. AIMIM Proposes to Join MVA, Seeks 28 Assembly Seats
Mumbai: Hyderabad-based-All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has shown a willingness to join the oppositions alliance for the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha polls in Maharashtra. The decision has been made after consultation of state leaders with AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi. Former MP and party leader Imtiaz Jaleel said the AIMIM has sent a proposal to the presidents of the Congress and NCP (SP) seeking 28 Assembly seats to contest. We (the opposition parties) should come together to ensure BJPs defeat. We do not want the Mahayuti government in the state, he said. Jaleel made it clear that the seats they have proposed to contest are all Muslim-dominated. They (the MVA) will field their candidates in Muslim-dominated constituencies, which will lead to division of votes between them and the AIMIM and it will ultimately help the BJP, he added. The list of constituencies from which the AIMIM is seeking to contest the assembly polls in Maharashtra includes Dharavi, Byculla, Mumba Devi, Versova, Andheri West, Chandivali, Mankhurd, Anushakti Nagar, Kurla, Kalina, Bandra East, Bandra West, Bhiwandi West, Bhiwandi East, Mumbra-Kalwa, Dhule, Malegaon Central, Pune Cantonment, Solapur Central, Akola, Balapur, Akola West, Washim, Amravati, Nanded North, Nanded Central, Aurangabad Central, and Aurangabad East. The AIMIM leader said that the letter seeking alliance with the Congress and NCP (SP) has been drafted. We drafted a letter after consulting AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and it has been sent to the Congress and NCP (SP). The AIMIM leader also said the proposal has been sent only to the Congress and NCP (SP), as they still do not agree with (the policies of) the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. The Shiv Sena (UBT) have recently become secular, but we do not agree with their stand on various issues. Hence, we have approached the Congress and the NCP (SP). If they could join hands with a party that has recently become secular, why cant the AIMIM enter into an alliance with the MVA? he said. We have given a proposal for 28 Muslim-dominated constituencies, and we can give a good fight on these seats, Jaleel said. However, he added that the AIMIM has only listed the constituencies and it can contest on fewer seats as well. Elections to the 288-member Maharashtra assembly are likely to be held in November. In the current assembly, the BJP is the single largest party with 103 MLAs, followed by Shiv Sena 40, NCP 41, Congress 40, Shiv Sena (UBT) 15, NCP (SP) 13 and others 29. The AIMIM has two MLAs while some seats are vacant. It is unlikely that Shiv Sena (UBT) will agree with the inclusion of the AIMIM in the MVA. Though the Uddhav Thackeray-led party is part of the secular alliance, it continues to claim that it has not abandoned Hindutva as it does not want to lose its core voters. Besides, the MVA already includes several parties, such as Congress, NCP(SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party, Communist Party, Shetkari Kamgar Paksha and the Republican Organization. The alliance is already struggling with accommodating each of the constituents. According to sources, AIMIMs proposal may not get any response from Congress and NCP(SP).

Ganeshotsav served as platform for freedom movement awareness in Nizam-era
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Ganesh festival in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (then Aurangabad) had worked as a public awareness tool about freedom from the Nizam and the British rule, as per a souvenir published by a local body in 1973. Amid the ongoing 10-day festival, local history researchers told PTI on Sunday that despite restrictions on celebrations in the Nizam-era, people here would find a way to convey to the masses about the freedom movement. The festival, dedicated to the elephant-headed God, was celebrated in limited areas here till the erstwhile Hyderabad state (comprising areas of present-day Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh) got liberated on September 17, 1948 from the Nizam rule, according to the souvenir. The Ganeshotsav is being celebrated publicly in this Maharashtra city since 1904. But the formation of the Ganesh Mahasangh (organisation to celebrate the festival) in 1925 gave an organised face to the festival here. Many a time, the festival came under attack over themes depicted by Ganesh mandals to raise public awareness on various issues, as per the souvenir, a copy of which has been digitised by local history scholar and city-based Chhatrapati Shivaji museum director Shriprakash Purwar. There were portrayals on themes like Shivaji Maharaj freeing 'Hind Mata' from slavery while another depicted Lord Ganesh killing a lion, which was shown as the British government. Around 1945-46, a theme named 'Azadi ki Raah Par', depicting Mahatma Gandhi keeping his hand on the shoulders of M A Jinnah and moving to the temple of Swarajya, created chaos in the city, the souvenir said. A group of 50-60 persons pelted stones on this display, alleging that sentiments of Muslims were hurt. After police intervention, the display was opened for public again but under security, the document said. Once freed from the Nizam rule in 1948, the festival spread across the city and there was a wave of displays which remained high till 1951, it said. In the Nizam state, it was tough to speak against the government. Speakers from various verticals were called to put forth their thoughts. Any controversial remarks attracted legal consequences, it said. Though the Nizam rule ended on September 17, 1948, Hyderabad state existed till 1956 when it was linguistically reorganised. A demand to reak the Hyderabad state into pieces was seen in locally distributed leaflets of Jai Hind Ganesh Mandal in the 1953 festival, as per the memoir. Ganesh Mahasangh's former president Manohar Gawli in his article, which is part of the souvenir, said it was difficult to celebrate the Ganesh festival in the Nizam era. The Nizam's dictatorship did not let the people celebrate their festivals. Hence, the city accepted freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak's way of celebrating the Ganesh festival, he said. Tilak had started the community Ganesh festival in 1890s on a grand scale to mobilise people against the British rule. Gawli's article said songs about democracy, attaining freedom, apart from religious activities, were the attractions of the festival in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and a medium of creating awareness among the people. The souvenir also has examples to show that the Ganeshotsav and Muharram were then observed peacefully together. Purwar said, It's a matter of pride for us that my ancestors have contributed to this festival. Despite curbs on celebrating Ganeshotsav in the Nizam-era, people used to find a way to give the message of freedom. It was the only time when people from all communities and classes used to come together for a common cause, he said. History researcher Sanket Kulkarni said according to the records, there were around 40 mandals and 11 melas (fairs) organised here during that time. Songs appealing for social reforms and patriotism were sung all night, he said. Apart from displays related to the freedom movement, the other themes still remembered include the portrayal of Goddess Parvati sitting with her son Lord Ganesh with a slate and pencil in hand, conveying the message to all women to let their children become educated, he added.

Drought-prone Marathwada Witnesses Torrential Rains, At Least 10 Dead
Mumbai : At least 10 people have died in Maharashtras drought-prone Marathwada region due to floods. Kharif crops including cotton, soybean, maize and tur (pigeon pea) have been damaged on 11 lakh hectares. According to officials, 523 cattle have been killed and 3,487 villages have been affected due the heavy rains. A senior official said that Marathwada witnessed incessant rains from September 1. It has affected 11,67,270.12 hectares of agricultural land including non-irrigated 11,31,321 hectares and 16,225 hectares of irrigated lands. Around 3,500 villages and 14,62,870 farmers have been badly affected by the flood like situation in Marathwada region, he said. The official further informed that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly known as Aurangabad) district witnessed the highest number of the casualties, followed by Hingoli district. Of the total casualties, five have been reported in Aurangabad, two in Hingoli and one each in Latur, Beed and Jalna districts, he said. According to the Disaster Management Unit (DMU), Marathwada, which has eight districts and 483 revenue circles, received more than 100 mm rainfall in the last 48 hours, causing sudden increase in water level in major rivers and rivulets including Godavari, Purna, Dudhana and Shivana. This has affected the lives of the people in several districts as villages were cut off from main roads and district headquarters. Flood waters deluged residential areas in the districts. In the worst affected Hingoli district, the Army has been called to rescue stranded people. Residential areas and farmlands near rivers were submerged, prompting local administration to launch rescue operations and evacuate residents to safer locations. Officials said that teams of SDRF (State Disaster Relief Force) were deployed in Nanded, Hingoli and Parbhani districts for rescue work. More than 5,000 people have been shifted to safe places in affected districts. Aurangabad Divisional Commissioner Dilip Gawade told this newspaper, The situation is under control as the rainfall has stopped today. We have been helping out the distressed people. We have now started doing panchnama of the damaged crops in order to provide assistance to the farmers at the earliest.

Krishna Basin Rain Likely to Drop, While Godavari May See Rise in Flows
Hyderabad :Rainfall and flood forecasts for the Krishna river basin have projected a downward trend for the next week, giving officials time to take up relief operations in the affected regions in the Telugu states. It is expected, according to the India Meteorological Department as well as the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, that the Krishna basin, spread over Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, might experience low to isolated moderate rainfall over the next seven days, compared to the very heavy rain of the last three days. But, with the heavy rain still pushing copious amounts of water into the river, the water flow continue to be heavy but witness a decline once the rainfall begins to slow down. Meanwhile, on Monday, the outflows from the projects on Godavari river witnessed significant drops by the evening, indicating that the catchment areas in its basin are yet to receive heavy rain that could translate into floods in the river. The IMD, in its five-day prediction, said that the districts of Nashik, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Gadchiroli, and Nanded, through which the river flows before entering Telangana could witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday with some areas also experiencing. All of this might contribute to increased inflows into the river that could see the levels rise in Godavari in the next four to five days, officials said. The flows in Godavari were fluctuating at different points because of the time it takes for water to travel the distance between each project, and the contribution from local catchment areas, officials said. On Krishna, if the predictions hold good, then the inflows into Almatti dam might see an average of 1.14 lakh cusecs a day in the coming week, up from 70,000 cusecs reported on Monday. However, with the dam currently enjoying a flood cushion of 7.8 TMC ft and releasing only 30,000 cusecs as of Monday, the downstream flows could be controlled and the flows that come into Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh and Nagarjunasagar in Telangana would mostly come from localised rainfall. As per expectations, the next week could see Srisailam get an average of 5.29 lakh cusecs of water while Nagarjunasagar could witness 5.57 lakh cusecs flow, which, in turn, might affect the timeline for proposed repairs to the two breaches on the projects Left Canal. Muslim scholars, clerics ask secular political parties to clarify stand on Waqf (Amendment) Bill
Mumbai : In a significant political development, a conglomeration of Muslim communities involving Islamic scholars, clerics, intellectuals has asked secular political parties to clarify their exact stand vis-a-vis the Waqf (Amendment) Bill which has been referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee. The development comes in the run up to the Assembly polls in various states like Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand - the first set of major elections after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Last week, the Centre introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which once passed would be known as the United Waqf Act Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act or UMEED for short. The Muslim community, however, appreciated the statement of Shiv Sena (UBT) head and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in this regard, who has slammed the Narendra Modi-headed BJP-led NDA government and questioned its intention of bringing it now when earlier they had a clear majority. At a discussion in the Islam Gymkhana hosted by the Tareek-e-Awkaf and All India Ulema Board, the Muslim community raised concerns over the bill as it would significantly strip the power of the Waqf Boards. The meeting was presided over by Shabbir Ansari, President, Tahreek e Awqaf while the Chief Guest was Yusuf Abrahani, Chairman, Islam. The special invitees and other guests included Baba Siddiqui, former Congress minister and now NCP leader, Amin Patel, Congress MLA, Maulana Mahmood Daryabadi, Rukn, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Advocate Waris Pathan, former MLA and AIMIM leader, Sarfaraz Arzoo, Daily Hindustan, Nizamuddin Rayeen, Advocate Farhana Shah, Senior Lawyer, Maulana Naushad Ahmad Siddiqui, Allama Bunai Hasani, Mahmood Hakimi, Maulana Mirza Abdul Qaum Nadvi, Aurangabad, Suhel Subedar, NCP leader, Maulana Mohd Luqman Nadvi, Fazil Ansari from Bhiwandi. The discussion was moderated by Salim Alware. The meeting was unanimous that the Waqf Bill needs to be opposed tooth and nail, as the government's intention of introducing it is not good. It was pointed out that the Waqf Bill has been introduced as part of well-thought-out politics. When there is a democratic process for election, why nominate people. No person from outside the community is part of other religious bodies. What is the point of including non-Muslims in Waqf bodies? This amounts to interference in religion and religious activities, the meeting felt. According to the speakers, Article 14 guarantees equality before the law, and Article 15 bars discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, or place of birth. Article 25 gives the right to practice a religion of their choice and, finally, Article 30 gives minorities the right to establish and administer educational institutions for their communities - and hence the Bill is discriminatory in nature.

Hyderabad: After two decades, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested V. NEW DELHI: Absence of drainage system and safety measures, and use of basement for commercial activities in violation of norms led to the death of three civil services aspirants at a coaching centre in central Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar area, officials and students said on Sunday. The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested the owner and the coordinator of the coaching centre -- Rau's IAS Study Circle -- and booked them for culpable homicide and other charges. A political blame game began as the BJP and the Congress attacked the AAP government, calling the incident a murder. Shreya Yadav of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Navin Dalwin from Ernakulam in Kerala died after the basement of a building housing the coaching institute was flooded following heavy rain on Saturday evening. Students alleged that the incident took place because of people getting trapped in the basement due to malfunctioning of entry-exit biometric system. An official later confirmed this. According to the officials, the three-storey coaching institute, surrounded by residential and commercial establishments, had permission to use the basement as a store room, but it was being used as library in violation of the rules. An FIR was registered at Rajinder Nagar police station under sections 105 (culpable homicide) and 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings), among others, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). So far, two people -- coaching centre owner Abhishek Gupta and coordinator Deshpal Singh -- have been arrested. According to the FIR, Gupta accepted that there was no drainage system in the basement, which resulted in the death of three people. Delhi coaching institute tragedy: What delayed rescue operation? The coaching on Sunday condoled the loss of young lives and said they are fully committed to supporting the ongoing investigation. In light of the recent tragic event involving the students of Rajendra Nagar Rau's IAS Study Circle, Rau's IAS Study Circle extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased students, Tanya Soni, Nevin Dalvin, and Shreya Yadav. Meanwhile, hundreds of civil services aspirants staged a protest in the area. Raising slogans we want justice, the protesters blocked the road next to the Karol Bagh Metro Station, causing traffic snarls and prompting police intervention. A scuffle erupted between the students and police, after which a few protesters were detained and taken away in a bus. Following this, demonstrators dispersed from the area and the traffic movement was resumed there. Delhi coaching centre deaths: Students detained during protest for action against culprits According to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials, the coaching centre had its building plan approved by the civic body in 2021. An MCD official said that in the building completion certificate of the institute, it is clearly written that the basement can only be used for parking and storage. It means that the library was running illegally in the basement, the official said. The official further said that the storm drains built to carry away excess water after heavy rains in the Old Rajinder Nagar area were covered by encroachers. The drains in the area were heavily clogged with silt and overflowed leading to a flood-like situation due to the rains that lashed parts of Delhi on Saturday, locals complained. Several videos of the incident went viral on social media in which some students are seen trying to save themselves from drowning after rain water flooded the basement of the coaching institute. In one of videos, the main entry gate of the coaching centre is seen falling due to excessive rainwater on Saturday evening, leading to the basement being flooded. Delhi Fire Services Chief Atul Garg said that the coaching institute made a disclosure to the fire department about the basement in which the centre said it would be used as a store room. The building has fire NOC, but in the NOC they had shown the basement as a store room. The management of the institute was using the same room as a classroom or library which is a violation of the NOC, Garg told PTI. Two of the three students who drowned in flooded water in the institute's basement were the students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Delhi University. Tanya Soni (21), a resident of Telangana who was originally from Bihar's Aurangabad, was a DU student. Tanya, who took the admission in the coaching institute just one-and-a-half months ago, was presently staying at a girl's hostel of Maharaja Agrasen College. A friend of Tanya, who did not wish to be named, said her father works in a mining company in Telangana. She was the eldest child of her parents. She had younger siblings, a brother and a sister. Meanwhile, families and friends of the victims demanded action against those involved in the tragic incident. At the RML Hospital mortuary, the friends and families of the three deceased were in a state of shock and were inconsolable. Dharmender Yadav, uncle of victim Shreya Yadav, said he learnt about the incident through news channels. I tried to call her but her mobile phone was switched off. Even the coaching centre's number was not reachable. I left Ghaziabad and reached the place where she stayed but her room was locked, the uncle said. Shreya had completed her BSc in agriculture and joined the coaching centre in May, he said. Most well-known IAS coaching institutes in the national capital charge students between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 3 lakh a year. Besides, students have also to pay Rs 1.82 lakh to Rs 3.65 lakh as rent every year. After the Rajinder Nagar incident, students fear that they will now be charged more by the coaching institutes in the name of implementation of safety measures. Lakhs of students from several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and southern parts of the country, come to Delhi to study in coaching institutes in Rajinder Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar. Students also alleged that these coaching institutes spend lakhs of rupees for full front page advertisements in major newspapers but have always ignored basic safety measures at their premises. Meanwhile, the Congress called for fixing accountability over the death of three IAS aspirants in Delhi, with Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X, asserting that common people are paying the price for irresponsibility of institutions at every level. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said it is very sad that three youths lost their lives after waterlogging in the basement of an IAS coaching centre in the capital due to the criminal negligence of the government and administration. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, The incident of the death of three students due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching institute in Delhi is heartbreaking. I pray to God for the departed souls and the bereaved families. On its part, the BJP demanded registration of cases against concerned officers for criminal negligence and resignation of Water Minister Atishi and local AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak for the death of three civil services aspirants. This is murder not any accident, said Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and demanded Rs 3 crore compensation for the families of the three students. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanded crackdown on illegal commercial operations in basements across Delhi. Senior AAP leader and MCD in-charge Pathak condemned the practice as a criminal activity and warned that without intervention, future incidents are inevitable. He stressed the need for a transparent investigation into the recent incident and criticised the BJP, which were in power in MCD before the AAP replaced it last year, for neglecting the city's drainage system for the past 15 years. The MCD has started taking action against illegal coaching centres after the tragedy occurred, the Corporation will establish a high-level committee to investigate the basement flooding in central Delhi that resulted in the deaths of three civil service aspirants. A team of the civic body reached the Old Rajendra Nagar area Sunday to seal several illegally-run basements of coaching centres, a statement by the Delhi government said. The MCD had previously conducted a survey to identify non-compliant coaching centres. An official highlighted that the basement's single biometric entry and exit point, which failed due to the flooding, was a significant safety oversight. A gross criminal negligence is found on part of the owner of the institute in ensuring safety measures as the library in the basement was running illegally and had only one entry and exit point that was biometric-enabled and got locked due to the flooding, the MCD official said. Mayor Shelly Oberoi is coordinating further actions . Criminal neglect, failure of basic maintenance, says LG Delhi Lt. Governor V K Saxena ordered the divisional commissioner to report on the deaths of three civil service aspirants due to flooding in a coaching center's basement. He called the incident criminal neglect and expressed deep anguish, stating it was unfortunate & unacceptable. Saxena criticized the failure of city drainage and infrastructure, highlighted the neglect of safety by coaching institutions, and vowed to hold those responsible accountable. He also acknowledged seven other recent deaths due to electrocution and demanded a detailed report by Tuesday. Families and friends demand accountability The families and friends of the three students who died in the basement of the flooded coaching centre here on Saturday have demanded action against those guilty of snatching away their loved ones. Pradeep, a relative of the deceased Tanya Soni, voiced his anger, demanding that someone be held accountable for the mishap. He called for action against all institutes running classes in basements. Tanya's body was transported to her native place, Aurangabad in Bihar. Navin Dalwin was pursuing a Ph.D. from JNU, former JNU students' union president Aishe Ghosh visited the hospital and expressed her sorrow, emphasizing that students come to Delhi with dreams, and it's tragic that three young lives were lost. Ghosh demanded accountability and a formal statement from the authorities regarding the reasons behind the incident. JNUSU president Dhananjay echoed these sentiments, condemning the private coaching mafia for prioritizing profits over safety. He criticized the government's inaction in regulating these institutions despite recurrent tragedies. Dalwin's family is expected to arrive in Delhi on Sunday evening, with his post-mortem scheduled for Monday. Dharmender Yadav, Shreya Yadav's uncle, recounted learning about the incident through news channels and his desperate attempts to contact her. Upon reaching her residence and finding it locked, he went to the coaching centre and then to RML Hospital, where her body was confirmed. Her family and friends were present at the hospital, mourning their loss. The incident has sparked protests and demands for stringent actions against those responsible, bringing to light the broader issue of safety negligence in private coaching institutes in Delhi. Why Dilip Jaiswal got the nod as the BJP's new chief in Bihar
PATNA: Senior BJP leader Dilip Kumar Jaiswal has been appointed as the new president of the party's Bihar unit replacing Samrat Choudhary who served as state chief of the party for nearly 16 months. Jaiswal is from the OBC Vaishya community and may help consolidate its members behind the BJP ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls next year. The state revenue and land reforms minister, he has been picked for the top party post in the state by the BJP high command in view of his vast experience in the partys organisation. Jaiswal, a native of Khagaria district in north Bihar, is considered close to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. A third-term member of the Bihar Legislative Council, he is also in charge of the Sikkim BJP and has been the party's treasurer for the past two decades in Bihar. He is considered a key party organiser in the Kishanganj and Seemanchal regions of the state. Jaiswal thanked the central leadership of the party for reposing faith in him and said that he would meet the expectations of the partys top brass. Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary was holding the post of BJP chief in the state so far. It was expected that Choudhary, a Kushwaha leader, would be relieved of the post of state party president ever since he was given the number two position in the new Nitish government formed in January this year. The BJP had appointed Choudhary to the post with the hope of consolidating the votes of the Luv-Kush -- Kurmi-Kushwaha (Koeri) castes. Both castes constitute nearly 10% of the states population. In the recent Lok Sabha polls, the NDA gave tickets to seven Kushwaha candidates, but the alliance lost Buxar, Sasaram, Karakat and Aurangabad, all seats with huge Kushwaha votes.
