The Sensex settled 152.05 points, or 0.19 per cent, higher at 78,581.00, while the Nifty edged up 9.75 points, or 0.04 per cent, to close at 24,624.65.

Sensex opened nearly 500 points or 0.63 per cent higher at 79,132.97, while Nifty slipped below the 24,750 mark, declining 70.4 points or 0.28 per cent.

The 24-karat gold price today is hovering around Rs 1.43 lakh per 10 grams in the domestic market, after a volatile stretch of choppy, range-bound trade. That is roughly 20 per cent below the retail all-time high of about Rs 1.78 lakh per 10 grams
