Women's empowerment is key to a Viksit J&K; their progress ensures the progress of society. I envision a Jammu Kashmir where women lead in academia, industry, social organisations, and governance, shaping policies, driving entrepreneurship, and enriching our culture through art and literature. I envision a Jammu Kashmir where every young girl grows up believing that her dreams are valuable, her voice is powerful, and her future holds limitless possibilities, the LG said, as he felicitated 32 talented recipients of the Kashmir Women's Organization (KWO) Fellowship during a ceremony at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar. Sinha outlined a progressive vision for the Union Territory powered by women leaders. He hailed the fellows as symbols of Jammu and Kashmir's ongoing transformation toward a future built on self-confidence, equal opportunities, and dignity for all. The LG lauded the efforts of Dr Fida Firdous and all members of Kashmir Women's Organization for creating a robust platform where Nari Shakti from the region could move forward confidently, embracing their talent, ideas, and identities. The Lieutenant Governor paid homage to historical icons such as Rani Didda, Kota Rani, Lal Ded, Habba Khatoon, and Mata Rupa Bhawani, who had shaped the consciousness of Jammu and Kashmir and contributed to its development. Millions of mourners throng funeral procession in Tehran for Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Tehran, Jul 6: Mourners dressed in black flooded into Iran's capital Monday for a procession as part of the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with throngs of people calling for the death of U.S. President Donald Trump. Khamenei's flag-draped coffin, and those of members of his family killed Feb. 28 in an airstrike at the start of the war launched by Israel and the United States, sat on board a truck decorated to resemble the ornamental grating that surrounds the shrine of an imam. The massive turnout, encouraged by Iran's theocracy as a sign of strength, came as it negotiates with the US over a permanent end to the war that killed the 86-year-old cleric. Helicopter images aired on Iranian state television showed a massive crowd stretching from Tehran's Azadi, or Freedom, Square for kilometers (miles) down a multilane street of the same name. The crowd appeared to be larger than the one that turned out for the 2020 procession for the late Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Solemani, which drew over 1 million people. Authorities offered no immediate crowd count as the truck crept down the street. But people alongside the truck and elsewhere on the route carried placards, signs and banners calling for Trump's death. Today that we are here for the funeral for our leader, it's a very tough day, mourner Fatima Hassan said. We are not here to say goodbye to him, we are here for revenge. And we will take revenge. Sea of mourners greets Khamenei Mourners reached out to touch the truck, and some threw scarves and other items for attendants to brush against the coffin, a common practice in Iran seen as a blessing. Attendants, some on the ladders of firetrucks, sprayed misted water across the crowds to cool them in the heat. Authorities appeared concerned about the dangers of having a large crowd alongside the procession, with officials on loudspeakers urging the public to walk slowly, not to push and to stay to the edges of the street. The coffins will be taken through the streets of Tehran on a 12-hour journey to Mehrabad International Airport, said Revolutionary Guard Gen. Hasan Hasanzadeh, who is overseeing the procession. Authorities have shut down streets, airspace and daily life for the mourning, which began Saturday and will end Thursday as Khamenei is buried at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, his birthplace. This is the last time I am seeing him, said a weeping Maryam Alizadeh. Our generation lived with him for decades. Calls for Trump's death grow as funeral goes on As the funeral has gone on, however, there have increasingly been calls from mourners to avenge Khamenei's death. Mourners and the signs they carry have called for the killing of both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Such signs were seen again Monday along the procession's route, with one effigy of Trump being hanged. We are here to show that his path will continue, and every single one of these people will continue down his path with clenched fists and soon we will certainly avenge his death against the US and Israel, said mourner Sahar Zaraatgar US federal authorities have been tracking Iranian threats against Trump and other administration officials for years, stemming from Trump's ordering the 2020 killing of Soleimani, who led the elite Quds Force. Iran has repeatedly denied plotting to kill Trump, though hard-line propaganda footage long has suggested Trump was in Tehran's crosshairs. Trump meanwhile promised to destroy Iran's civilization during the war, among other threats. Negotiations over war remain on hold The US is meanwhile eager to press ahead with negotiations with Iran aimed at fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz, rolling back its disputed nuclear program and reaching a permanent end to the war. Talks appear to be on hold until after the burial. The funeral was in part a show of unity as Iran demands a measure of control over the strait, a vital waterway for global energy that it shut down during the war. The US has rejected those demands, and the sides are divided on other key issues, including Iran's nuclear program and the conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran's new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, meanwhile has yet to make an appearance in the funeral ceremonies, which are unfolding over several days. He is believed to be in hiding after reportedly being wounded in the airstrike that killed his father. At the height of the war before an April ceasefire, Israel targeted top leaders, in at least one case likely using their public appearance to fix their position. It has also threatened to kill the younger Khamenei. (AP)

The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulama Jammu & Kashmir (MMU) has expressed serious concern over restrictions imposed on its members and senior religious leaders, including Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari and Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi. It also expressed regret over reports that Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi was prevented from travelling to Iran to attend the national funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Khamenei, and that his passport and travel documents were allegedly confiscated at New Delhi Airport. The MMU said peaceful religious scholars and clerics should not be obstructed from fulfilling their religious, social and community duties. Such actions, it stated, hurt religious sentiments, create unnecessary anxiety, and go against the spirit of religious freedom. The MMU urged the authorities to review these restrictions immediately and allow all religious leaders to discharge their responsibilities without hindrance, in the larger interest of harmony, confidence and mutual trust.

KTMF urges CM to resolve traders, artisans long-pending issues

A high-level delegation of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), led by its president Mohammad Yaseen Khan, on Thursday met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and sought early resolution of a range of long-pending issues concerning traders, traditional artisans and workers across Kashmir, including the rehabilitation of shopkeepers facing displacement, protection of the copper craft and settlement of rental disputes. The delegation included KTMF functionary Qazi Tauseef, Ganderbal Traders Federation president Ghulam Hassan Parra, vice-president Mehrajuddin Sheikh, Kashmir Copper Workers Trade Union chairman Jan Mohammad Misgar and president Arshid Ahmad Khan. During the meeting, the Ganderbal Traders Federation expressed concern over the proposed displacement of several shopkeepers due to ongoing and upcoming developmental projects. The federation urged the Chief Minister to ensure that no trader loses his livelihood because of infrastructure works and sought a comprehensive rehabilitation package, including suitable relocation before any eviction is carried out. Representatives of the Kashmir Copper Workers Trade Union highlighted the declining fortunes of Kashmirs centuries-old copper craft, saying nearly 50,000 workers associated with the sector are facing a livelihood crisis. The union urged the government to impose a ban on machine-made copper products, arguing that the influx of factory-produced items has severely affected traditional artisans and reduced demand for handmade copperware. It also sought policy measures to protect indigenous craftsmanship, strengthen market access and ensure sustainable employment for artisans. The delegation further discussed the need for institutional support, market protection and government interventions to revive the traditional copper industry, which it said is an important part of Kashmirs cultural and economic heritage. KTMF also raised the issue of long-pending rental disputes involving traders operating under the Housing and Urban Development Department. The federation urged the Chief Minister to direct the concerned authorities to resolve the matter on priority, stating that prolonged uncertainty has caused financial hardship to the affected traders. Speaking after the meeting, KTMF president Mohammad Yaseen Khan said the trading community, artisans and workers have been struggling with several unresolved issues for years. We urged the Honble Chief Minister to address these matters on priority, particularly the rehabilitation of displaced traders, protection of Kashmirs traditional copper industry from machine-made products and resolution of pending rental disputes. These concerns directly affect the livelihoods of thousands of families and require immediate government intervention, Khan said. He said KTMF remains committed to safeguarding the interests of the business community while working with the government for the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir.

Chairing a review meeting in Gurez, MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) said several works sanctioned under the UT Capex Budget over the last two financial years have failed to progress with the required urgency, prompting concern from the Committee over delays in implementation. Legislators Ali Mohammad Dar, Javid Hassan Baig, Mushtaq Guroo, Irshad Rasool Kar, Sajad Shaheen, Sunil Bhardwaj besides Secretary JKLA Manoj Kumar Pandit, Secretary Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Achal Sethi along with senior officers from Finance, PWD ( R&B) and PMGSY were present in the meeting.
