The Calcutta High Court was informed on Tuesday that nine candidates have used Whatsapp to file their nominations for the West Bengal panchayat elections which are scheduled to take place in three phases on May 1, May 3 and May 5.
Self styled godman Asaram has been found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl at his ashram in 2013. The quantum of punishment is likely soon. The verdict was announced by the Jodhpur Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Court on Wednesday inside the Jodhpur Central Jail premises where Asaram has been lodged for the past over four years.
The chargesheet against Asaram and four other co-accused Shiva, Shilpi, Sharad and Prakash was filed by the police on November 6, 2013 under various sections of the POSCO Act, Juvenile Justice Act and IPC. If convicted, Asaram could be jailed for a minimum of 10 years or awarded a maximum life term, according to prosecution lawyers.
Indian Army inflicted heavy damage to Pakistani posts along the Line of Control in Krishna Ghati of Mendhar sector in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir and killed at least four Pakistani soldiers on Tuesday. The Pakistani soldiers reportedly were from the Northern Light Infantry regiment.
