Cable television (CATV) remains a cornerstone of how national broadcasts and emergency information reach thousands of households. Unfortunately, many older apartment buildings were not built with fiber-optic wiring in mind, making retrofitting with the necessary CATV infrastructure too costly or impractical and leaving residents unable to access broadcast services.
Research published in the International Journal of Sensor Networks has demonstrated a visible-light communication system that uses the inherent randomness of quantum noise to make transmitted data harder for hackers to intercept.
Every time you make a phone call, stream a video or connect to Wi-Fi, your device is sending and receiving invisible signals through the air. So are your baby monitor, garage door opener, GPS, weather-monitoring satellites and the radars keeping planes safely apart. All of these rely on the same invisible resource: the radio spectrum.
A research team from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) proposed a new Reasoning-Empowered Task-Oriented Communication (TOC) framework that enables AI agents to determine what information to share, when communication is necessary and why communication should occur. The research could pave the way for collective intelligence in future 7G wireless networks.
