As per changes announced by the Apex Council, the Duleep Trophy and Senior Womens Challenger tournaments will now be contested between six zonal teams selected by zonal selectors. The format is a departure from the last time when the national selection committee picked the squads, and for the upcoming season, teams will be picked by the Zonal Selection Committee as per the previous tradition. The Apex Council also said the Plate Group restructuring has been introduced across age categories. As per this, the bottom 6 teams (based on the previous seasons rankings) will be placed in the plate group for limited-overs tournaments, adding that only one team will be promoted/relegated between Elite and Plate groups going forward. In this, each team will play three games in the league, following which the top team from Groups A and B will feature in the final. As far as new tournament grouping formats are concerned, major tournaments such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Senior Womens One Day Trophy, and Mens U23 State A Trophy will follow a four Elite Groups + one Plate Group model. On the other hand, most junior and womens tournaments (U16, U19, U23) have been moved to a five Elite + one Plate group structure. Meanwhile, the BCCI Apex Council has also approved the venues for Indias upcoming white-ball home series against New Zealand, scheduled to be held in early 2026. Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Was money from benami account used to fund Raja Raghuvanshi's killers?

BHOPAL: Ongoing investigations into the Meghalaya honeymoon killing of Indore man Raja Raghuvanshi have brought to the fore the strong possibility that it may have been funded by money from a benami account. The three henchmen who executed the killing were all friends of the murder mastermind Raj Kushwaha. Not much money had been handed over to them. Raj had given them about Rs 50,000 for their expenditure out here (in Guwahati and Meghalaya). It has not yet come out whether any big consideration was there, given the fact that Raj doesnt come from a very affluent background. Well see whether there is any financial or property angle, Meghalaya East Khasi Hills district police superintendent Vivek Siyam had told journalists in Meghalaya on Thursday evening. According to a source who was part of the joint Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya police operation which led to the arrest of four men, including Raj Kushwaha and his three friends from MP and UP on June 8-9, The money which was paid to the three henchmen, before they left for the North East from Indore on May 17 or May 18, was possibly sourced from an account held by Sonam Raghuvanshi's cousin Jitendra Raghuvanshi, but being operated by her. This raises the question as to whether the money came from a hawala channel. Sources in the police in the recent past had raised the possibility of Raj having possible links with players in the hawala business. The analysis of Rajs phone after his arrest on June 8 had revealed pictures of old Rs 10 notes, which raised the possibility of his association with the hawala business, particularly as such old notes are often used as proof for collecting money through such channels. According to sources privy to the investigations, it was not just one account opened in the name of Jitendra Raghuvanshi that was being used by Sonam. As many as four accounts including three savings and one current account were opened in Jitendras name, but used for transactions by Sonam and others. While denying any hawala links to their business, Sonams brother Govind Raghuvanshi had recently told journalists in Indore, Jitendra is a lower rung employee in our godown and also our cousin. The accounts are in his name, but the money which comes in the accounts is ours and is used to meet daily business expenditures. Jitendra Raghuvanshi hails from adjoining Dewas district and has been working with his cousins for more than a year. His mother Rama Bai, who lives in a two-room house in Dewas district, had recently told some journalists that he has not come home for the last six months and lives on rent in Indore. She had also claimed that bank accounts in Jitendras name had been opened by Sonam and her family members. Meghalaya Honeymoon murder: Sonam active conspirator, Raj Kushwaha mastermind A benami account is an account or property held under the name of someone who is not the real beneficiary. It is covered under the provisions of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act. Sonam may have stayed in hiding in Indore at flat rented in name of Rajas killer Vishal Chauhan After the May 23 killing of Raja Raghuvanshi, his wife Sonam (who is now in Meghalaya police custody along with four others including mastermind Raj Kushwaha) had gone into hiding in Indore from May 26 to June 7. During the same time, Vishal Chauhan, who allegedly attacked Raja with the dao (the sharp-edged weapon) inflicting severe injuries on May 23, got a flat on rent in a newly constructed building near Indores Niranjanpur crossing on May 29 or 30. Vishal came on a two-wheeler with another man and got the formalities, including police verification from the local police station, done for getting the ground floor (G1) flat on rent on May 29 or 30 night. He handed over two months' deposit and one month running rent, before getting the keys of the flat, property broker Shillom James told journalists on Friday. Its possibly the same flat where Sonam remained in hiding between May 30 and June 7. During Thursdays press briefing in Meghalaya, the East Khasi Hills district police superintendent had said that Sonam had returned to Indore on May 26 after Rajas murder and went into hiding in her home city, before proceeding by road to Siliguri on June 8. But coming to know about the arrests in the case in Indore, she dramatically resurfaced in Ghazipur district of east UP and concocted her fake abduction story. Meghalaya Honeymoon murder: Sonam active conspirator, Raj Kushwaha mastermind

GUWAHATI: All five accused of the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case confessed to their involvement in the crime, Meghalaya Police said on Thursday. Addressing a press conference in Shillong, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said Sonam was an active conspirator while her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha was the mastermind. The conspiracy was hatched weeks before and finalised 11 days before Raja and Sonam had got married. Syiem refused to call it a contract killing, stating that the alleged assailants Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi had done a favour to Raj. The SP said the assailants made multiple attempts to eliminate Raja, first in Guwahati, but it did not materialise. Eventually near the Weisawdong falls in Sohra (Cherrapunjee) area, the three took turns to hack Raja to death. After committing the crime, the assailants fled the scene riding some scooters, including the one that Raja and Sonam had hired from Shillong to go to Sohra. Sonam had worn a burqa that Raj had arranged and gave to Vishal. She reached Shillong wearing it and then, left for Guwahati in a taxi. She changed buses at multiple places before reaching Indore. While she was in Indore, Raj had advised Sonam to flee to Siliguri and pretend she was abducted. However, the plan did not succeed as by then, the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team started making the arrests. However, the plan did not succeed as by then, the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team started making the arrests. Sonam had told her interrogators that she was forced into the marriage. The SP said it emerged during interrogation that Sonam was in love with Raj but entered into an arranged marriage with Raja. Earlier in the day, Meghalaya DIG Davis NR Marak said, She has confessed that she was part of the conspiracy. But the question about who the mastermind was needs to be established. She is blaming Raj (Raj Kushwaha, her alleged boyfriend), whereas Raj is putting the blame on her. The statements of the contract killers suggest that Sonam had helped in lifting the body of Raja after the murder and throwing it into the gorge, Marak further stated. The revelation comes a day after a Shillong court had sent the five accused to eight-day Meghalaya Police remand.

Honeymoon murder: Accused stayed at Guwahati lodge days before killing Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya

GUWAHATI: The men accused of killing Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi -- allegedly at the request of his wife and her boyfriend -- posed as tourists while briefly staying at a Guwahati lodge, according to the lodge management. Speaking to TNIE , lodge manager Himanta Kalita said the alleged killers Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi checked in on May 19 at 8:30 pm and left early the next morning at 5:30 am. They said they were tourists from Indore. We followed all the necessary formalities before allotting a room to them. They furnished their identity proof including Aadhaar cards. We have already shared the documents with the crime branch of the police. We dont give rooms to people if they cannot provide identity proof, Kalita said. On June 3, a day after Raghuvanshis decomposed body was recovered from a deep gorge in the Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji), Meghalaya Police recovered a machete, suspected to have been purchased in Guwahati and used in the murder. Kalita said the three accused had backpacks when they checked into the lodge. But we didnt find them carrying any dao (machete). There was nothing suspicious in their behaviour, he said. The Meghalaya Police have called me. I am leaving for Shillong, he added. A Meghalaya Police team, assisted by Assam Police, raided the lodge located in Guwahatis Pan Bazar area on Wednesday. They searched the room where the trio had stayed and recorded the statements of lodge employees. A Shillong court on Wednesday sent the three accused along with Sonam and her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha to an eight-day police remand. The Meghalaya police are likely to bring Sonam to her hometown Indore, where the conspiracy of the crime was hatched, a police official said. The Meghalaya police have named their investigation in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case as 'Operation Honeymoon'. Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Three unanswered questions Notably, Raja (29) and Sonam (24) got married in Indore on May 11 and went missing during their honeymoon trip to Meghalaya on May 23. Raja's body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra area on June 2. Sonam, who was initially reported missing in Meghalaya, surfaced in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur on Sunday night where she surrendered after her alleged accomplices Akash (19), Vishal (22), and Anand were arrested for their alleged role in conspiring and killing Raghuvanshi. Kushwaha (21), the alleged co-conspirator, was arrested later. A police official associated with the investigations said in Shillong that Raja was told by Sonam that she would let him consummate the marriage only after making an offering at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. Accordingly, Raja planned their trip to Guwahati and adjacent Meghalaya for the honeymoon, while his wife and her boyfriend Kushwaha allegedly plotted to kill him in the jungles of the north-eastern state, considering its perceived remoteness, he said. Sonam coerced her husband to take her to the deep jungles of Nongriat with the belief that the hitmen she hired would have a better chance of killing him somewhere on the route, considering it is secluded. But, since there were too many tourists trekking to Nongriat on May 22 and May 23, they couldn't kill him there, the officer said. They finally killed him near Weisawdong Falls, and dumped his body into a deep gorge, the officer added. East Khasi Hills SP Syiem, overseeing the investigation, said the contract killers arrived in Guwahati on May 19 and procured a machete from outside their hotel and then travelled by road to Shillong. We have gathered CCTV evidence, making this investigation a very tight-knit one, the SP said. Sonam was in touch with her boyfriend throughout the day of the murder, while Raj coordinated with the three contract killers, he said. Sonam was present when Raja was killed, the officer said. Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government felicitated the search and rescue team that played a key role in recovering Rajas body. A total cash award of Rs 5.4 lakh was distributed among 36 members of the team, including the Tour Guide Association of Meghalaya (Central Body and Sohra unit), local guides, and the West Jaintia Hills Adventure Sports & Mountaineering Association. Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Three unanswered questions

BHOPAL/GUWAHATI: As the special investigation team (SIT) of Meghalaya police probing the May 23 honeymoon killing of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi started quizzing the five arrested accused, including Rajas wife Sonam, there were a series of unanswered points that seemed to hold the key to investigations. A local court in Meghalaya capital Shillong on Wednesday sent Sonam Raghuvanshi and four others , including prime accused Raj Kushwah, to eight-day police remand . Though there were reports of Sonam confessing to the crime, the Meghalya Police urged the media to not jump to any conclusion. In a dramatic development, Sonams brother Govind visited the home of Raja on Wednesday and broke into tears after hugging his slain brother-in-laws mother Uma Raghuvanshi. One unanswered point seems to be Sonals trolley bag? Why was she carrying a trolley bag while going with Raja to the monsoon tourism hotspot Sohra (Cherrapunjee) on a short visit? Have you seen any couple carrying a trolley bag on a short trip riding a scooter? a source part of the ongoing probe told TNIE. Where are Sonams multiple cell-phones she was carrying during the trip? There were at least two iPhones, one of which seemed to have been destroyed after the alleged murder. All others are switched off. Their data hold the key, the source added. Mangalsutra in Meghalaya homestay helped crack honeymoon murder case: DGP Family defends Raj Kushwaha amid honeymoon horror accusations in Uttar Pradesh Raja rented a scooter to go from Shillong to Sohra (Cherrapunjee) on May 23. The scooter was found abandoned some distance from the place where he was murdered. Who took that scooter there? Also, CCTV grabs of nearby areas a short while after the killing show Sonam on a scooter (possibly the same rented scooter) probably accompanied by Vishal, the man who actually attacked Raja with the machete. They attacked Raja, but he resisted two of them, seeing the two attackers being overpowered by Raja, the third attacker Vishal attacked on his head with the Dao (machete), said the source. Earlier in the wee hours, Sonam was brought to the hill station and had a medical examination. Report of pregnancy test was negative, Meghalaya cops said. They left their suitcase there to avoid carrying it on a strenuous trek of over 3,000 steps to Nongriat village to visit the famous double-decker root bridge. They spent the night in Nongriat and checked out early the next morning. On May 23, they returned to Sohra, collected their scooter, and rode to Weisawdong Falls, where Raja was allegedly murdered in Sonams presence by the three men. The accused have confessed to the crime. The evidence against them is solid, an officer said. A court in Shillong on Wednesday has remanded Sonam , Raj Kushwaha, and the three hitmen to eight days of police custody. Raja (29) and his wife Sonam (25), both residents of Indore, had gotten married on May 11 and arrived in Meghalaya via Guwahati on May 20 for their honeymoon. They went missing on May 23, just hours after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat village in East Khasi Hills district. Raja's body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls.
