Nepal, India planning to Sign Deals during PM's visit
KATHMANDU :: During Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's impending visit to India, the two countries are planning to sign a number of agreements, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu said on Saturday, May 27. The Ministry in its statement said Pushpa Kamal Dahal's visit is on the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prachanda will be accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal and various other dignitaries and high-ranking officers. According to Nepali ofoficials, a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding would be inked during delegation-level discussions between Prachanda and Modi on June 1.Haribol Gajurel, Prachanda's chief political adviser said, the Nepali side will seek an aviation access route through Indian territory during the visit in order to use its two recently constructed international airports in Pokhara and Bhairawha. He said, there won't be any real progress made in resolving the bilateral boundary dispute. Instead, the two sides will talk about their energy trade and the long-delayed Pancheshowr Multipurpose Project, both of which were signed in 1996.Gajurel added that the boundary dispute, which is a somewhat complicated issue, cannot be resolved during this visit. The Uttarakhand region of India, which is part of the Darchula district of Nepal, is the subject of a boundary dispute between Nepal and India. The Nepali government released a new political map in May 2020 in reaction to the Indian political map that was published in 2019 and that included the Indian territories of Kalapani, Lipu Lekh, and Limpiyadhura. This time, the boundary conflict won't be resolved. This is an intricate issue. Serious disagreements exist between Nepal and India regarding a boundary issue. This argument ought to come to a satisfactory conclusion. We can move towards resolving the boundary dispute in the right way once we have settled and resolved other unresolved concerns, according to Gajurel. According to Nepali officials, important agreements regarding cross-border energy cooperation and trade would be made during the visit. The agreement also calls for the establishment of a dry port in Nepal's Chadani-Dodhara region, the opening of integrated checkpoints in Nepalgunj, and the construction of a new integrated checkpoint in Bhairawaha. Further , the agreement lists the opening of a rail yard in Biratnagar that is connected to Jogbini, India; the building and expansion of two petroleum pipelines; allowing Nepal Television to broadcast in India; energy trading between Nepal and Bangladesh via India; and a 25-year agreement on electricity trading between two state-owned agencies so that neither party needs to repeatedly request approval. During the visit, agreements will be signed on, among other things, the development of Lower Arun and Phukot Karnali by Indian developers, a cross-border transmission line, and the provision of chemical fertiliser to Nepal. We haven't come to a conclusion on the boundary problem yet, so our attention is on resolving the other issues first. The boundary dispute would come up during the bilateral talks between Prachanda and Modi, he continued, but that won't dominate the entire talks. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will co-host the Nepal-India Business Summit in New Delhi, where Dahal will also speak, the ministry announced. Dahal will also pay courtesy visits to both Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and President Droupadi Murmu, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The announcement from the Indian side states, Prime Minister Dahal will be visiting Ujjain and Indore as part of his visit, in addition to the official events. In his three stints as prime minister, Prime Minister Dahal has travelled to India four times. The visit is expected to further solidify Nepal and India's long-standing, warmly amicable, multidimensional relations. Courting dreams, rising in ranks
Manish Suresh Kumar, who won the Fenesta nationals mens tennis title and the National Games gold, was thrilled to bag the TK Ramanathan award this year. CHENNAI:Every youngster in the state often dreams of bagging the TK Ramanathan award at the Annual Day function of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association. The prestigious award is given to the best player in the state and this was instituted by none other than the legendary Ramanathan Krishnan in memory of his father and noted coach TK Ramanathan. Manish Suresh Kumar, who won the Fenesta nationals mens tennis title and the National Games gold, was thrilled to bag the TK Ramanathan award this year. Its great to win the Ramanathan award. It was a good season last year in 2022 when I won the National Games and the Nationals biggest tournaments. I am really glad that I was able to do that in back-to-back weeks and I am really proud of that, said Manish, who also got a cash prize of Rs 30,000 with the award. Balancing both studies and tennis for the most part of his school life, from class 12, he realised that tennis is his calling and started to concentrate more on the game. My father Suresh and mother Vijaya were never into sports. My dad is a chartered accountant by profession. My brother used to play when he was young but was not so serious. I started to play tennis from the age of nine and went up the ladder slowly, said Manish. Winning the nationals is the first sign that a player is on track to be a professional tennis player. And Manish does believe that the national crown is indeed special. Yes, winning the nationals, it was an amazing feeling, because I have been trying to win the national since I was a kid. I have played all the nationals U-12, U-14, U-16, U-18, and finally being able to win the biggest stage in the mens category, it means a lot to me. I was really happy and my parents were also really proud of me because it was really big thing for them, he said. Manishs ATP ranking at the moment is around 720. However, his best-ever ATP ranking is 508 and in ITF its been 156 and in India its been in the top five. I remember doing really well in China in the ATP Challenger where I was in my best form in 2018 so that was by far the best tournament I played. My best performance till date is beating Stephen DS, a Canadian in China. I have won totally three singles titles two in Colombo, one 2018 and the other one last year in July. I also won another tournament in India in Indore in 2021. I have also won four doubles titles. Three of it came last year in Sri Lanka, and one in Indonesia. I wish to keep working hard and keep improving on my ranking and add more titles, he insisted. Manish, who, as a kid won his first major tournament at the Triangle Tennis Trust, Nandanam, got to play the Tata Open in 2022. I went down first round of the qualifying, but to play the tournament was a good learning experience. My first coach is Suresh Kumar Sonachalam and he is still my coach. Big thanks to him for all the support that he is given and also to Balaji, said Manish. Life of a tennis player is not easy in the circuit. Manish is learning it the hard way, but is keen to fight it out. One has to travel alone to most of the places, figure out things by yourself so its not all easy. And in terms of cost, its a lot; tennis is one of the most expensive sport. The training is good in Europe and its not easy for all the Indians to afford that kind of training. The cost of playing tournaments abroad is very high. But I see and play tournaments where one can cut the costs and play, he signed off. CLIMBING THE LADDER Manishs ATP ranking at the moment is around 720. However, his best-ever ATP ranking is 508 and in ITF its been 156 and in India its been in the top five. As a kid, he won his first major tournament at the Triangle Tennis Trust, Nandanam, got to play the Tata Open in 2022.

Gautam Gambhir Backs KL Rahul To Be Retained In Indian Team's Playing XI
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has strongly backed Indian opener KL Rahul, who has been stripped of vice captaincy and runs the risk of getting dropped in the third Test match starting in Indore from March 1. Gambhir said KL Rahul should not be dropped from the Indian side as one should not single out any player. He felt that everyone went through lean patch and that's why no one should tell the Indian opener that he is not doing well. You have to back players who have talent. Look at Rohit Sharma (Indian captain), he also had lean patch. Now he is doing great. Indian team management is rightly backing KL Rahul. He is a great player. We had scored so many international runs. India is 2-0 up and not 0-2 down. So let's not axe anyone and appreciate the team. (Video credit: PTI)
