While the films World Premiere has already marked an important milestone in its journey, the presence of its lead actor and director at the prestigious festival added to the occasion, as the team presented the project to an international audience. Filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap has weighed in on why he believes the Hindi film industry gives in to compromises more readily than its regional counterparts, pointing to a pattern where a single concession opens the door to many more. Speaking with Janice Sequeira, Kashyap said the issue is rarely about people wanting to compromise. Instead, he suggested, it is the first act of giving in that sets off a cycle nobody quite knows how to stop. As I said, once the door has been opened, it cant be shut. Its not like they are not aware. Theyre aware, theyre woken up, they also feel embarrassed, they also sometimes feel ashamed. They also cant do anything about it, he said. Kashyap traced the pattern back to its origin, saying it usually starts when someone agrees to a demand and then finds themselves benefiting from that decision. Once those benefits kick in, he noted, walking away from similar demands the next time becomes considerably harder. The director went on to contrast Bollywood with the South Indian film industries, crediting their resilience to deep-rooted regional identities and cultural ecosystems that, in his view, cannot be pulled apart as easily. Other industries are very regionally strong, but they have a culture which is so very strong, which cant be divided on the same lines, Kashyap said. This is not the first time Kashyap has spoken candidly about the state of Bollywood. He had previously called the industry toxic, citing its fixation on ever-escalating box office numbers and the race to deliver films that cross the Rs 500 crores or Rs 800 crores mark. On the work front, Kashyaps most recent release, Bandar, was produced by Nikhil Dwivedi under Saffron Magicworks. Vishesh Bhatt reveals Awarapan 2 struggled to find distributors before release
Before turning into one of the steadier box office performers this year, Awarapan 2 had to clear a tougher hurdle first getting a distributor on board at all. Producer Vishesh Bhatt has revealed that no distributor initially came forward to buy the Emraan Hashmi starrer, leaving the makers to fund the project themselves. Speaking to Zoom ahead of the films release, Bhatt said, Awarapan 2 is not a cash grab film. He added that distributors only began showing interest once the film was complete, well after the makers had already committed their own money to it. The much-anticipated sequel to the 2007 original opened in theatres on August 14 and crossed Rs 50 crores within two days, even as it clashed with Sunny Deol starrer Batwara 1947 at the box office. The film has since collected a mammoth Rs. 81.50 crores in its first weekend. Bhatt also urged audiences to keep supporting such films in theatres, noting that box office response is what signals demand for stories in the Awarapan mould. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 brings Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit, the character he played in the 2007 original, which underperformed on release but went on to build a cult following. The sequel picks up after Shivam survives six bullets and later rescues a baby named Aliyah, only to discover she has been pulled into a child trafficking network. He then infiltrates a gang in Bangkok to save her, setting the story in motion. The sequel has already surpassed the final theatrical hauls of several earlier Hashmi films. Saiyami Kher has opened up about the pressure she faced to conform to a particular image when she was starting her career in the Hindi film industry. The actor revealed that she was repeatedly advised by managers to dress and look a certain way and was even asked to give up her naturally curly hair. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Saiyami recalled the advice she received during the early phase of her career. She said, When I was starting off, I was told you have to look a certain way, and that was the advice I was given by lots of managers that you have to dress a certain way. I was told you have to conform to a certain way that an actress is supposed to be. However, Saiyami chose not to change herself to fit those expectations. She said she continued pursuing sports on her own terms, spoke openly about politics and sports, and remained true to her personality. A lot of people will try to mould you a certain way. But you should stick to your originality because that's what will set you apart. Otherwise, you would be a factory-made Barbie, which I didn't want to become, she said. Recalling specific advice about her appearance, Saiyami added, I was constantly given advice that you should dress and look a certain way. I was told, 'No, no don't keep curly hair. Despite such suggestions, she decided to retain her individuality. I am happy that I didn't change the person I was because my parents brought me up to be a certain way, and I was happy with the way I have gotten my work, she added. Saiyami made her acting debut with the Telugu film Rey before entering Hindi cinema with Mirzya. Although the film did not succeed at the box office, her performance earned attention. She later appeared in projects including Mauli, Choked, Unpaused, Special OPS, Breathe: Into the Shadows, A Thursday and 8 A.M. Metro. Her performance in Ghoomer also received critical appreciation, with Saiyami portraying a young cricketer whose ambitions are affected by a life-changing setback. More recently, her film Pal Bhar Ke Liye, co-starring Tahir Raj Bhasin and Vineet Kumar, had its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on August 16. Directed by Vikram Fadnavis, the film features Saiyami as a fashion photographer. She will also be seen in Priyadarshans Haiwaan, which stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan and is scheduled to release in theatres on September 11, 2026. Vikram Phadnis has been in the news currently after his Hindi directorial debut Pal Bhar Ke Liye had its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) on August 16. While talking about the film, Phadnis, in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, also looked back at his Marathi directorial debut Hrudayantar (2017) in which Hrithik Roshan played a cameo in the form of his beloved character from the Krrish franchise. Phadnis said, Hrithik is not my friend. He is not somebody I have known for years. Obviously, I know who he is, he knows who I am. I requested him to be a part of the film because it needed his character Krrish. The character that he played (in the movie) was his superhero character of Krrish. Sri Adhikari Brothers Television Network Ltd also became the first media company to be listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. At the same time, the late media pioneer Gautam Adhikari (director and co-founder of the Sri Adhikari Brothers Group), found a place in the Limca Book of Records. The company is now about to write a new chapter. Gautam Adhikaris son, Ravi Adhikari, chairman of SAB Television Network Ltd, is all set to reboot several of these iconic shows for a new generation. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ravi opened up about these ambitious revival plans, the use of Artificial Intelligence to bring back beloved characters, the future of AI in entertainment and a lot more. Ravi Adhikari revealed, We have a vast library and we own the IP of most of the shows. Many of them were path-breaking and continue to have strong recall value even today. We are rebooting Suraag and Yes Boss. We are also in talks for Commander. It was the first show to be telecast on a satellite channel. We are also trying to revive Say Na Something To Anupam Uncle. He added, On YouTube, several of our older shows continue to get good viewership, with Suraag and Shrimaan Shrimati among the top performers. This also gave me an insight into what people are watching when it comes to our older shows. The reboot of Suraag is already ready. Ravi Adhikari said, Its called Suraag 2.0. It stars Sudesh Berry and Sai Ketan Rao. AI gives old IPs new life For the reboot of Shrimaan Shrimati, Ravi Adhikari has decided to turn to AI. He stated, Two of the actors from Shrimaan Shrimati, Jatin Kanakia and Reema Lagoo, are no longer with us. We are trying to create fresh episodes featuring them using AI. Hence, we are using AI in cases where it would otherwise be impossible to recreate our IPs. We have also made mythological and fantasy shows like Brahma Vishnu Mahesh and Alif Laila. We can recreate such episodes with AI as well. We already have the audio from the original episodes; now, we want to create fresh visuals around it. Thats how we can refurbish and revive some of our older IPs. Ravi Adhikari made it clear that the necessary permissions would be taken from the families of Jatin Kanakia and Reema Lagoo before proceeding. Explaining why familiar IPs continue to resonate with audiences, he said, Songs are also being remixed because of their recall value. When you go to a party where there are 100 people and you know only five of them, youll naturally greet those five first. Youll spend time with them and, through them, meet other people. The same thing happens with content. Theres so much content available today, but you naturally tend to get attracted to familiar titles first. He added, Id also like to clarify that nothing can be made completely by AI. You still need a human brain behind it. AI apne aap toh kuch kar nahin sakta. People say things have become easier with AI. Yes, it does help save time and money, but in some ways, it has also made things more challenging for the maker because you have to be extremely clear and precise about what you want. Ravi elaborated, When you communicate with a human being, he or she can understand what you are trying to say even if your instruction isnt completely clear. For example, I can tell someone, Yeh cheez ko utha ke udhar rakh do, and theyll understand. But I cant give the same instruction to a machine. Ill have to say, Heres a bottle lying on the table. Take it and place it on the other table where the book is kept. Hence, when working with AI, you need to be very precise with your prompts. Ravi Adhikari also revealed, We are associated with the Stage app, a huge platform for Haryanvi, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Marathi and Bengali stories. Neeraj Chopra is one of its investors. They plan to go fully into AI, and we have a deal with them to create AI content. Predicting how AI will shape the entertainment industry, he said, Its the way forward. For ad films, you will not need actors to be physically present. As for films, the process will slowly become hybrid. AI will not take over; itll become a part of the process. Even when CGI came in, many people said films would eventually be made entirely using CGI. That didnt happen. Instead, CGI became a part of the filmmaking process. AI will evolve similarly. And what about fears that AI could lead to job losses? Ravi answered, When computers came in, they did replace a lot of jobs. Those who didnt evolve suffered. The same thing will happen with AI. At the same time, if AI takes away certain jobs, it will also create new employment opportunities.
