Sridevi's 63rd birth anniversary: Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor celebrate late actress' Pan-India legacy

Shraddha Kapoor has paid tribute to late legendary actress Sridevi, highlighting her remarkable reach across Indian cinema decades before the term pan-India became a popular description for actors and films. Taking to Instagram, Shraddha shared the cover of Empress: The Definitive Biography of Sridevi, authored by writer and columnist Dhiraj U. Kumarr. The book, published by Westland Books, explores the life and career of one of Indian cinemas most celebrated performers. Alongside the book cover, Shraddha wrote, Before it became a buzzword, The Empress actually ruled PAN-INDIA, while tagging Sridevis daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, as well as her husband and filmmaker Boney Kapoor. The actress post comes as Sridevis legacy continues to be revisited through the new biography. Sridevi worked extensively across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema during her long career. Her popularity across different film industries established her as a rare star who could command a nationwide audience well before the current era of pan-India releases. Varun Dhawan also joined the tributes, sharing the book on his Instagram handle. He described Sridevi as The one and only empress. Sridevi, who passed away in February 2018 at the age of 54, remains one of the most influential female stars in Indian cinema. EXCLUSIVE: Sonakshi Sinha talks about working with her brother Kussh S Sinha in Nikita Roy: His biggest strength is his clarity, his vision

Sonakshi Sinha recently opened up about her experience of working with her brother Kussh S Sinha on Nikita Roy. In an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama, the actress discussed the process of collaborating with a family member for the first time professionally and shared her perspective on Kusshs approach as a filmmaker. While discussing her experience of shooting the mystery horror film, Sonakshi spoke candidly about what she considers her brothers biggest strength as a director. According to the actress, Kussh has a clear understanding of the story and the kind of film he wants to make, something she believes is particularly important for a director. His biggest strength is I think - his clarity, his vision. I think that's a great thing for a director to possess, when you know exactly what it is that you want to make. That's the good part, she told Bollywood Hungama. However, Sonakshi also pointed out an aspect of Kusshs working style that she feels he could improve upon. Having worked with several first-time directors herself, she explained that new filmmakers can sometimes absorb too many opinions while navigating the demands of a film set. She went on to share, What he can work on is I feel he's very conscious. You know even while directing, sometimes his ears are everywhere. Rather than just being on what it is that he's doing. So, it's like two sides of the coin. He has them both. That also comes from being a first time director, right? Because I've worked with so many first timers. Sonakshi further explained that the fresh perspective brought by first-time filmmakers can be valuable, while acknowledging the number of voices a director has to manage during production. She said, But I think despite everything, they bring a really nice fresh energy onto set and a very different perspective. So, it's only natural for him to kind of be taking in everybody's inputs and advices. Also, there is always a lot of chatter on set and with what you're doing, you hear too many voices. There are the actors, your ADs, your producers, everyone. And like you're this one person trying to balance everything out. But I think if he paid a little less attention to all of that, that would be nice. Nikita Roy marked Kussh S Sinhas directorial debut, with Sonakshi playing the titular character. The mystery horror film also featured Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal and Suhail Nayyar in key roles. The film was released on July 18, 2025. For Sonakshi, the project brought together a professional collaboration with her brother while also giving her the opportunity to explore the horror genre. Her comments offer a glimpse into the dynamic between the siblings as they navigated their first film together. Anya Singh opens up about changing fashion views; says, It's such a generic thought to have, and women do that to other women as well

Actor Anya Singh has spoken about how her approach to fashion has changed over the years, while also questioning the stereotypes and assumptions often attached to womens clothing. The actor reflected on her college days, when Western outfits were often considered more fashionable, and explained how growing older helped her become more comfortable with her personal style. Recalling her college experience, Anya said there was a noticeable bias against women who preferred traditional Indian clothing. When I went to college, there were a lot of girls who would wear salwar suits, and there was a certain bias towards them, she recalled in a chat with Mid Day. She admitted that she was influenced by the same mindset at the time. However, her perspective has changed considerably. Anya now embraces Indian wear and said she even prefers wearing traditional outfits while travelling abroad. I was one of them. However, now I wear Indian clothes even when I travel abroad. There's no hassle, and you can breathe, she added. For the actor, comfort has also become an important factor in deciding what to wear. She believes Indian clothing can offer both ease and style, challenging the idea that fashion has to be defined by Western trends. Anya also addressed the larger issue of women being judged based on their appearance. She pointed out that people often make assumptions about a womans personality or character based solely on her clothes. According to her, this becomes particularly difficult for actresses and other women in the public eye, who face constant scrutiny over their fashion choices. Speaking about revealing outfits, Anya said women should not be labelled because they choose to show cleavage or their midriff. It's not fair. Maybe someone is showing their cleavage or midriff, but the tag or perspective of them being easy bothers me. It's such a generic thought to have, and women do that to other women as well, especially older women, she explained. On the work front, Anya has appeared in projects including Stree 2 and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. She also gained attention with The Ba***ds of Bollywood, directed by Aryan Khan. Her latest release was Border 2, which hit theatres on January 23, 2026, where she played Sudha Rawat. Yash reveals why KGF Chapter 1 clashed with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero: Our film was a small one

Yash is currently busy promoting Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, but his promotional conversations have also brought back memories from a defining phase of his career. The actor recently recalled the release of KGF Chapter 1 and its clash with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero in December 2018. At the time, KGF Chapter 1 was Yashs major Hindi-language breakthrough, while Zero arrived with the star power of Shah Rukh Khan and reunited him with his Jab Tak Hai Jaan co-stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. The film also featured Khan in the role of a dwarf, adding to the curiosity surrounding the release. During his appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Yash was asked about the decision to release KGF Chapter 1 alongside a Shah Rukh Khan starrer. The actor was asked, Aap Shah Rukh Khan ke bahut bade fan hain, aap unse milna chahte the and jab time nahi diya toh aapne unki Zero ke saath apni KGF film clash kara li (You were a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan. You wanted to meet him but when he didnt give time, you ended up clashing your film KGF with his film Zero)?. Yash, in response, explained that the scale of the two films was very different when they arrived in theatres. Our film was a small one and Shah Rukh sir's film was huge, so we released on the same day, he added. The decision eventually proved significant for Yash and the KGF franchise. Directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Hombale Films, KGF Chapter 1 introduced audiences to Rocky, played by Yash, and the world of the Kolar Gold Fields. The film went on to establish Yash as a pan-India star, with its success eventually leading to the sequel, KGF Chapter 2. Interestingly, Yashs recollection comes at a time when he is preparing for another major release. The actor will next be seen in Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas. The gangster drama also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. Produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP, Toxic is scheduled to release on August 26. As Yash looks ahead to his next release, his comments about KGF Chapter 1 offer a glimpse into the circumstances surrounding the film that changed the trajectory of his career. Gap launches Denim on your own Fall 2026 campaign starring Malcolm Todd and Inde Navarrette

Gap unveiled its Fall 2026 campaign, Denim on your own, on August 12, starring musician Malcolm Todd and actress Inde Navarrette. The campaign is set to Todd's original rendition of Robyn's 'Dancing on My Own', created specifically for the campaign. Continuing Gap's legacy of championing emerging artists, the campaign brings together Todd and Navarrette, two rising talents from different creative worlds, showcasing them alongside GapDenim as a canvas for their creativity and personal style. Gap said the collaboration reinforces its commitment to fostering authentic partnerships that spotlight new talent and celebrate individuality. Gap has always been at the intersection of music, style, and culture, partnering with artists who bring a unique point of view and inspire people to express themselves, said Mark Breitbard, President and CEO of Gap brand. From our heritage of iconic creative collaborations to championing today's emerging voices, we continue to evolve how we show up in culture, building our own cultural currency through authentic partnerships, original storytelling, and a clear point of view. The campaign was directed by Tanu Muio, with creative direction from Calvin Leung, Head of Gap Brand Creative, fashion and image by Alastair McKimm, and photography by Bjorn Loos. It follows Todd and Navarrette through a series of distinct spaces, where each expresses their own rhythm and style. Grounded in a shared belief that personal style is a powerful form of expression, Denim on your own reflects how Gap's timeless essentials become part of the everyday lives of artists as they create, perform, and connect with their audiences. For this campaign, we didn't simply ask Malcolm to cover Dancing On My Own, we asked him to reinterpret the song through his own perspective, said Fabiola Torres, Chief Marketing Officer of Gap brand. That same spirit of making something your own defines GapDenim, a collection designed for people to find the fits and styles that feel uniquely theirs. It's how Gap has connected with culture for generations, and how we continue to inspire originality today. Malcolm Todd has multiple songs that have reached platinum status, and his latest album, Do That Again, released via Columbia Records, debuted in the top five of the Billboard charts. He is now preparing for his 38-date North American tour, which sold out and is set to launch September 2. Inde Navarrette is fresh off the success of Obsession, a global box office release, and is recognized for bringing authenticity and emotional depth to her roles. I've always been drawn to making things my own, whether that's through music, style, or the way I express myself, said Malcolm Todd. Being able to reinterpret an iconic song like Dancing on My Own and bring my own perspective to it was such a special experience. I like to trust my instincts and not overthink things. To be part of a Gap campaign on such a big set, surrounded by so much creativity, and still feel like I could just be myself was really meaningful. From the moment we started filming the Gap campaign, it felt like we were able to bring our own energy and personalities to the campaign, said Inde Navarrette. There was so much freedom to move, experiment and express ourselves. That's what makes style so personal, it's about feeling confident in who you are and showing up as yourself. Gap Denim has been part of the brand's identity since 1969. The Fall 2026 collection builds on that legacy with a focus on fit, versatility and personal style, featuring refreshed washes, utility-inspired colorways, updated silhouettes and modern takes on Gap's denim codes. The collection is anchored by new style expressions such as the Mid-Rise Straight Taper Jean, seen on Navarrette, alongside classic styles such as the '90s Loose Jean, worn by Todd. Kitu Gidwani labels Bollywood a fake industry; says, We dont want to play generic mother or maasi roles

Veteran actor Kitu Gidwani has hit out at the way Bollywood treats its artistes, calling it a fake industry that runs on its own vague rules. In a conversation with Screen, the actor spoke about royalties, intellectual property rights and the lack of substantial roles for older women. Bollywood is a cottage industry Gidwani, who has worked across film and television for more than four decades, compared Indias entertainment business unfavourably with the West, pointing out that there is no equivalent of Hollywoods Screen Actors Guild to protect performers. Bollywood is not a real industry, its a cottage industry. Its a fake industry, it goes by its own vague rules. There is nothing like Hollywoods Screen Actors Guild in India. I should have been able to work for 10 years and then live off my royalties for the next 10 years, not slog for 40 years, she said. She also flagged the near-total absence of intellectual property and creative rights for artistes in the country. Intellectual property rights and creative rights are zero in India. You dont have rights over your work. The producer gives you and the director a one-time fee, and then he can do what he wants with the property. Its not like that anywhere in the world, she said. On ageism in the industry Turning to the roles available to older actresses, Gidwani said women are too often reduced to playing mothers or aunts once they cross a certain age. My grouse against the industry is that older women are not getting powerful roles. We dont want to play the generic mother or maasi. We want to play good, enduring roles with sex, love, power, comedy, and action, she said. She was equally critical of television, pointing out that soap heroines are frequently aged into grandmother roles well before their time. In daily soaps, once a woman hits 30, she becomes a daadi. She has no signs of ageing on her face, but she gets such roles. This industry is very bizarre, she added. Gidwani began her career in 1984 with the film Holi, which also featured Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowariker and Om Puri, before rising to prominence with Doordarshans Air Hostess in 1986. She went on to headline Swabhimaan and Shaktimaan, besides films such as Dance of the Wind, Earth, Rukhmavati Ki Haveli, Fashion, Abhay, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Dhobi Ghat and Deham. Nidhi Dutta on why Border trends every Independence Day across all generations: It survives because it speaks from the heart, not from a trend

Nearly three decades after its theatrical release, Border continues to feature prominently in television programming and conversations around Independence Day. Directed by J.P. Dutta and based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 IndiaPakistan war, the 1997 war drama has become closely associated with the period around August 15. While viewing habits have changed significantly since the films release, Border continues to reach audiences through television, digital platforms and social media. Its songs and dialogues also tend to resurface around Independence Day, contributing to the films continued visibility among viewers who watched it during its original release as well as younger audiences discovering it later. One of the reasons for the films recurring appeal lies in the way it combines the battlefield narrative with the personal lives of the soldiers. Alongside the war sequences, the film focuses on friendship, family, separation and the uncertainty faced by soldiers and their loved ones. The song Sandese Aate Hain, in particular, remains closely associated with the film and is frequently heard during patriotic programming around Independence Day. Its theme of soldiers communicating with their families gives the film an emotional dimension beyond its depiction of the 1971 war. For producer and co-writer Nidhi Dutta, daughter of J.P. Dutta and part of the creative team behind Border 2, the films continued presence around Independence Day is linked to its emotional storytelling. She said, Border survives because it speaks from the heart, not from a trend. Every generation discovers its own emotion in the film. My father created characters people mourn and celebrate even today. That is why Border returns every Independence Day like a memory we all share. The annual return of Border also reflects how certain films continue to find space alongside newer forms of entertainment. Despite the growth of streaming platforms and audiences increasingly watching films on personal devices, the war drama remains part of the Independence Day viewing landscape. The films continued presence is also relevant as Border 2 too has taken it forward. The sequel carried the franchise into a new chapter, while the original continues to remain a reference point for audiences familiar with J.P. Duttas portrayal of soldiers and wars. As Independence Day approaches each year, Border continues to return to screens, driven less by a new release cycle and more by its established place in the viewing habits of audiences during the national holiday. Shazahn Padamsee turns singer with her first single Raatan Kaaliyan: Somewhere deep inside, I felt a strong calling towards music

Shazahn Padamsee is all set to explore a brand-new side of her artistry as she makes her singing debut with her first single, Raatan Kaaliyan. Known for her work on screen, Shazahn now steps behind the microphone, marking a new chapter in her creative journey. Music has always been an integral part of Shazahns life. Going to boarding school at a very young age led her to writing letters as a way of staying connected with her family, teaching her to express her emotions from an early age. As an only child, music also became her therapy. Being the daughter of two prominent personalities (Alyque Padamsee and Sharon Prabhakar), with her mother being one of Indias first pop stars, Shazahn grew up in a creatively stimulating environment. Her home was often filled with rehearsals for plays and musicals, with actors and singers constantly coming in and out. In her teenage years, Shazahn developed a strong interest in house music, drawing inspiration from artists such as Daft Punk, Modjo and Bob Sinclar, while also exploring alternative pop through artists like Radiohead, The Cardigans and Natalie Imbruglia. She took up music production as a hobby and taught herself to play the piano. However, as she grew older, she put her passion for music on hold to pursue modelling and acting, eventually becoming a part of several popular Bollywood films. Speaking about her journey back to music, Shazahn Padamsee said, I didnt choose acting, it chose me. It was a dream come true for any 22-year-old, but somewhere deep inside of me I felt a strong calling towards music. There was a voice telling me there was so much more I needed to explore creatively. Thats when I shifted gears and started to pursue music manically. Shazahn then decided to take music up seriously, dedicating hours to her riyaaz with her mother, who became her in-house guru. She went back to the basics and committed herself to becoming the strongest vocalist she could be. Her musical journey also took her to Europe, where she spent time with international artists from the electronic dance music scene, learning vocals, songwriting and piano while developing a unique sound of her own. Returning to India, she also witnessed the growing indie music scene and its blend of global influences and international elements, which made her feel that the time was right to begin her musical journey. For Shazahn, the single is more than just a new release; it marks the beginning of a new creative avenue. The song explores the journey of love, moving from emotional dependence to a more secure understanding of love. Its about discovering that real love isnt about filling a void; its about finding the kind of love that makes you feel safe to be yourself. Raatan Kaaliyan will be out on August 19, 2026.

Manisha Koirala opens up about fear and loneliest night after Cancer Diagnosis; says, I felt I was going to die

Manisha Koirala has opened up about the fear, loneliness and life-changing realisations she experienced after being diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in 2012. Speaking in a conversation with Sushant Pradhan, the actor recalled the night she was informed about her illness at Nepals Norvic International Hospital, describing it as one of the darkest moments of her life. I was in the hospital and I was told I had cancer. That night, for me, was the loneliest and longest night. It just felt like a dark space. I felt I was going to die. In that moment, it is the scariest, darkest space very, very lonely, Koirala said. She travelled to New York for treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she underwent surgery and chemotherapy. She completed her final chemotherapy session in April 2013 and was later declared cancer-free. Reflecting on the experience, Koirala said cancer made her understand how isolated patients can feel even when surrounded by people. She also revealed that the experience changed her priorities and encouraged her to focus on family, health, close relationships and nature. I got a second chance at life, so whatever was non-essential, I kept it all aside, she said. Koirala added that she wanted a close-knit family and didnt want a crowd around her. She also admitted, I didnt care a damn about my health. If I got a second chance at life, I would prioritise it. The actor further spoke about her demanding career, recalling a period when she worked on three or four films a day and spent up to 18 hours working. At one time, I was working on three or four films a day, 18 hours a day, non-stop. No Sundays, no Saturdays, nothing, for years and years, she said. Koirala admitted that the exhaustion affected her professional choices. However, the support she received from fans during her cancer battle made her realise the importance of her work. So it was important for me to work well and give good-quality work, for myself and for the people who love my work, she said. After making her Hindi film debut with Saudagar in 1991, Koirala went on to feature in films such as 1942: A Love Story, Bombay, Khamoshi: The Musical, Dil Se.., Company and Lajja. Following her cancer treatment, she returned to acting and later appeared in Dear Maya, Sanju, Lust Stories and the 2024 Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Aastha Gill makes Independent era With new single Fursat

Pop singer Aastha Gill has announced the beginning of a new chapter in her musical journey with the launch of her independent music era. In partnership with Raag Entertainment & Experience Pvt Ltd, the singer has returned to the music scene with her latest single, Fursat, following an eight-month break that she used for artistic reflection, self-discovery and restructuring her creative team. The hiatus marked an important phase for Gill as she worked on redefining her musical identity and understanding the direction she wanted to take as an independent artist. During the break, she focused on developing a fresh sound, reassessing her creative vision and putting together a team that could support her plans for the next phase of her career. Fursat is the first release from this new chapter, with more music expected to follow in the coming months. Written by Kunal Verma, Fursat explores love, longing and intimacy through poetic, Urdu-influenced lyrics. The songs central hook captures the intensity of devotion, Do hain Lamhe Fursat Ke, Kharch aise karte hain / Ek mein Tum par jeete hain, Ek mein tum pe marte hain (I have only two moments of leisure, and I spend them like this: in one I live for you, in the other I die for you). The track has been composed by Dev Sadaana and produced by Sanjoy. While its lyrics carry a deeply emotional and romantic quality, the production takes a high-energy pop approach designed to connect with Gills audience. The song presents love as an all-consuming experience that transforms ones perception of time and self. Directed by Preet & Harry and filmed in Goa, the music video takes a different approach to conventional romance narratives. Instead of centring the female protagonist entirely around another person, the video focuses on her celebrating her own final moments and reclaiming her individuality. The makers have also opted for an understated fashion aesthetic to keep Gills personality and the story at the forefront. Speaking about the new phase, Aastha Gill stated, This independent chapter is the most honest version of me. Taking an eight-month break was terrifying but necessary to strip away the noise, rediscover my voice and figure out who I want to be as an artist. Fursat is the perfect introduction to this new era. It strikes a beautiful balance between traditional Urdu romanticism and contemporary, high-energy pop. The music video really drives home the message of the song: it is about loving deeply, but ultimately reclaiming your own narrative and celebrating your independence. With Fursat, Gill combines romantic emotion with a message of self-reclamation and independence. The song is now available across all major streaming platforms.
