Neena Gupta says she apologised to Masaba Gupta for growing up without her father: It is my fault

Neena Gupta has spoken openly about raising her daughter Masaba Gupta as a single mother and the choices that shaped their lives. In a recent conversation with Zoom, Neena reflected on Masabas childhood and her experience of growing up without her father, former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards, being present in her everyday life. Neena revealed that she has apologised to Masaba over the years for the circumstances of her upbringing. She acknowledged that some decisions made when she was younger had consequences that became clearer with time. I am so honest with her that many times I have said sorry to her that you didn't have a father with you when you were young. It is my fault, but she understands. We all make mistakes. When we are young, our parents tell us certain things and we don't listen. That wisdom comes later, she said. Neena also explained that she made a conscious effort to ensure Masaba learned about her father and their relationship directly from her. Rather than allowing her daughter to hear about the circumstances from others, she chose to have honest conversations with her as she grew older. I made her like her father. I told her why and what had happened as she grew up. So, there was no malice or anger towards me because I told her the truth. It is very important because, rather than her hearing something from outside, I thought it was better that I told her myself. I think that was a very sensible thing that I di, she added. Neena and Vivian Richards welcomed Masaba in 1989. In her autobiography Sach Kahun Toh, the actor had previously spoken about their relationship and the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. Vivian and I had an affair and I got pregnant. He had already returned home when I found out, she recalled. She also remembered telling Richards about her pregnancy and asking whether he would object to her having his child. I'm pregnant, she told him. Would you have a problem if I were to have your baby? According to Neena, Richards told her to go ahead with the pregnancy. The two continued their relationship for a few years despite often living apart. Neena later married chartered accountant Vivek Mehra in 2008. Masaba went on to establish herself in fashion before also entering acting. She married Satyadeep Misra in 2023, with both her parents present at the wedding. On the work front, Neena was most recently seen in Netflixs Chumbak, alongside Deven Bhojani, Arjun Bijlani, Sumeet Raghavan and others. The sitcom revolves around five multigenerational families living in row houses in the fictional Chumbak Colony. The series was created by Aatish Kapadia and Jamnadas JD Majethia. EXCLUSIVE: Susanne Bier reveals why she said yes to Practical Magic 2: Id love to work with both of you again

Director Susanne Bier is stepping into the world of Practical Magic 2 with a clear understanding of what makes the franchise special. For Bier, the opportunity was not simply about revisiting a beloved property, but about creating a big-screen experience rooted in relationships, female themes and emotion. Recalling how she came on board, Bier revealed that the conversation began around Christmas 2024, when she received a call and spoke with stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. I got a call around Christmas of 24. I spoke both to Sandy and to Nicole. We have this project; it can be really fun. Do you want to read? And I was like, Sure, I'd love to read. I mean, I'd love to work with both of you again. And doing a big, cinematic release that is female-driven and is about something that actually is very close to my heart just sounded incredibly tempting. What intrigued me in the first place was actually making a movie with substantial female themes while making something that is fun and sexy and evocative and sad and moving. I don't even need to question that. That's an obvious yes for me. The director was also conscious of the legacy of the 1998 original and the passionate following it developed over the years. Rather than attempting to simply recreate what worked nearly three decades ago, Bier wanted to understand how the story could resonate with audiences today. For me, the main thing is how do you take a story which became incredibly relevant 28 years ago? Because the first movie had an interesting trajectory. When it came out, it was a mystifying movie. And then it gained a huge following and fan base that was really adamant and really devoted. For Bier, the challenge was to bring magic into a contemporary cinematic landscape without allowing it to overshadow the people at the heart of the story. And so, I think what was tricky was how do you merge? There have been a number of movies dealing with magical entities, and you have a whole generation of young women and men who have grown up seeing movies like Harry Potter. How do you tell a story today which has magic, but still stays true to being about human beings? She believes that distinction is central to what makes Practical Magic unique. I mean, Practical Magic is much more about human relation than it actually is about magic. But magic is a fundamental core of it, and the magic serves the human purpose. For Bier, that combination made returning to the franchise an opportunity she could not resist.

Shehnaaz Gill on shelved film 100% with John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh: Kuch cheezein nahin banne mein hi bhalai hoti hai

Shehnaaz Gill has opened up about her shelved film 100%, which was planned as Sajid Khans directorial comeback and was announced with John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh and Nora Fatehi. The actor said she does not dwell too much on projects that do not eventually make it to the screen and believes that sometimes it is better for certain films not to happen. 100% was announced around four years ago, with Shehnaaz, John, Riteish and Nora attached to the project. At the time, the film was seen as an important opportunity for Shehnaaz as she continued her transition from television and reality shows to films. However, the project was eventually shelved. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Shehnaaz explained that she prefers not to discuss projects until they are completed, as plans can change at any point. She said, Main utna serious leti nahin hun in cheezon ko. Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki nahin hui acha hua, kyunki kuch cheezein nahin banne mein hi bhalai hoti hai. Jitni der tak tumhara project pura ban ke ready nahi ho jata hai, tab tak baat na karo uski kyunki kabhi bhi kuch bhi ho jata hai. Mujhe pata hai kal ko nahin hua to log sawaal karenge aur main unko jawab kya dungi. Logon ki umeedein bhi ban jati hain, to main wo todna nahin chahti. While 100% did not materialise, Shehnaaz has continued working in films, particularly in Punjabi cinema. Her latest release, Singh vs Kaur 2, is currently running in theatres, with Gippy Grewal in the lead role. Her last Hindi film was Thank You For Coming, which released in 2023. Since then, Shehnaaz has taken on more substantial parts in Punjabi films, while her Hindi film appearances have largely been in shorter roles. Asked whether she is waiting for the right Hindi project, Shehnaaz said language is no longer the deciding factor for her. Instead, she is looking for roles that leave an impact. Mujhe impactful role hi nahin mile. Jo bhi roles maine kiye, wo impactful nahin the. So, I sat with myself and told myself to choose accordingly, irrespective of the language, she said. Shehnaaz first gained widespread recognition through Bigg Boss 13, hosted by Salman Khan. She finished as the second runner-up on the reality show, which was won by late actor Sidharth Shukla. Since then, she has continued to expand her work across television and films, with her recent choices reflecting her focus on finding roles that offer greater scope. Bangladesh dengue outbreak worsens as 52 die in just 13 days

Digital Desk | Dhaka, Sep 14 (IANS) As Bangladesh grapples with an unprecedented dengue outbreak, as many as 52 people died from the infection in the first 13 days of September, marking the highest monthly fatalities recorded so far this year and raising serious concerns over the worsening public health crisis, local media reported. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the dengue death toll stood at 149, while 51,837 patients had been hospitalised until Sunday. Health experts have attributed the rising dengue deaths to delayed hospitalisation, inappropriate treatment, and the heightened vulnerability of high-risk groups, with many patients seeking testing and medical care only after their condition turns critical, Bangladeshs leading newspaper The Daily Star reported. HM Nazmul Ahsan, associate professor at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka, said that the recent spike in dengue deaths is largely a consequence of the rapid increase in infections nationwide. According to Nazmul, three broad sets of factors are behind the fatalities: viral factors, patient-related vulnerabilities and treatment-related complications. Mushtuq Husain, a public health expert, called for strengthening dengue care through a three-tier system of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare. On Sunday, Bangladeshs State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku warned that the dengue situation in Dhaka and other districts could worsen further in the coming months, urging people to stay alert. The risk of dengue may increase further in the coming months, so everyone needs to become aware from now, Bangladeshi media outlet UNB quoted Tuku as saying. According to a report in Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo, dengue has spread across all 64 districts of the country, with several hundred people being hospitalised every day after contracting the mosquito-borne disease. Deaths from the largely preventable illness are also being reported almost daily. The government has warned that the situation could deteriorate further in late September and early October, with infections expected to rise in at least 15 districts. For the past one-and-a-half to two months, a section of public health experts and entomologists had been warning that the dengue situation could deteriorate further in September and October. Speaking at an event at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on September 9, Bangladeshs State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit said that dengue infections had already begun to rise, with the peak period expected in the last week of September and early October. Despite years of media reports and discussions over rising dengue infections and deaths, the governments lack of commitment to dengue prevention has remained evident. The most glaring weakness has been the lack of coordination, Prothom Alo reported.

England brought back ospreys after 149 years; 300 chicks have now fledged

After a dramatic 150-year absence, conservationists have triumphantly reintroduced ospreys to England. Young chicks, sourced from Scotland, began their journey to Rutland Water in 1996. Remarkably, these avian travelers instinctively returned to their new home, initiating a breeding cycle that has led to over 300 fledglings now populating the area. This successful initiative marks a pivotal moment in conservation efforts.

Vardhaan Puri remembers Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with grandfather Amrish Puri

Digital Desk | Mumbai, Sep 14 (IANS) Actor Vardhaan Puri has opened up about celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with his family. He recalled cherished childhood memories of the festival with his late grandfather and legendary actor Amrish Puri. Speaking about his fondest childhood memory associated with Ganesh Chaturthi, Vardhaan shared with IANS, My fondest childhood memory of Ganesh Chaturthi is the beautiful tradition we started when we first brought Bappa home. My Dadu, my Dadi, parents, my sister Sachi, and my entire family would come together to make Bappas favourite food - modaks with our own hands. That tradition continues till today, and every year, Bappas arrival brings so much love, happiness, and celebration into our home. It feels like a beautiful blessing that we get to experience together as a family. Talking about how his family celebrates the festival, he added, During Ganpati, our entire family comes together from all over the world to celebrate Bappa. We bring the same Ganpati idol from our temple into our living room, celebrate Bappas birthday for two days with delicious Maharashtrian food and lots of modaks, and then lovingly take him back to our temple. For Visarjan, we bring an eco-friendly Ganpati made of coconut, because we truly believe that while celebrating Bappa, we must also take care of His most beautiful creation, our Mother Earth. What makes it special is that every year, Bappa brings us closer as a family and makes the celebration even more beautiful, he added. Vardhaan also spoke about the life lesson Bappa has given him, saying, One thing Ganpati Bappa teaches me is to trust His divine plan. He comes into our homes every year, fills them with love, laughter, and celebration, and then leaves-only to return again, bringing with Him even greater joy. Vardhaan Puri is the grandson of the late legendary actor Amrish Puri, who was known for his memorable performances in Hindi cinema, particularly his iconic portrayal of Mogambo in the 1987 film Mr. India. Amrish Puri passed away on January 12, 2005, at the age of 72.

Yemen conflict intensifies as Houthi attacks threaten Red Sea oil supplies

The conflict in Yemen intensified on Sunday, as government forces launched attacks against Iran-backed Houthi rebels along the Red Sea and Houthis fired into neighbouring Saudi Arabia, which supports Yemen's government. The Yemeni government vowed to send more forces to the Red Sea coast and one official conceded a painful defeat last week when Houthis captured the port city of Mokha and an island on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a crucial shipping alternative to the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation -- especially Houthi attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure and its shipping in the Red Sea -- adds pressure on global oil supplies and prices, and that could give Iran leverage in its war with the United States. As Yemen risks descending into another civil war, the United Nations estimated that more than 80,000 people in the impoverished country have been displaced by the fighting since the start of September. One woman said a mortar shell fell nearby as she fled in the middle of the night
