Rasika Dugal has revisited some of Beena Tripathis most significant moments from the Mirzapur series ahead of the theatrical release of Mirzapur The Movie. In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, the actor reflected on Beenas character arc, the difficult scenes she portrayed and the way the character repeatedly reclaims her agency. Beena Tripathi, played by Rasika, has remained one of the prominent characters in the Mirzapur franchise. Speaking about understanding Beenas emotional journey, Rasika credited the shows writers for giving her a strong foundation to work with. For me, it was never challenging to understand the emotional core of Beena Tripathi. It was on paper. The challenging part was to adapt her body language. When I first heard the story, my impression was that when Beena enters the room, people should turn around and look at her, Rasika told NDTV. One of the most disturbing moments in Beenas journey comes at the end of season one, when she is sexually assaulted by her father-in-law, Satyanand Tripathi, at gunpoint. In the following season, Beena takes revenge by killing him. Looking back at these contrasting moments, Rasika spoke about the emotional impact of portraying Beenas vulnerable state. What I really like about the writing is that whenever Beena's agency is taken away, she finds her way to a comeback. It was a moving moment for me when Beena locks the door at the end of season one. There was a sense of resignation in doing that. She knew that this day would come one day and she had to go through it. She was raped at gunpoint. I felt shattered to see Beena in a powerless situation. She is always self-assured, in control, but now she's in a powerless situation, Rasika said, revisiting the crucial scene. Rasika also connected Beenas experiences to the larger issue of womens agency in a patriarchal society. The truth about women in a patriarchal society is that when a woman owns a place, people don't like it and they try to take her agency, she added. The actor also addressed online trolling around portrayals of female desire and sexuality. She said she chooses to maintain her own boundaries when it comes to public reactions. Nowadays, it's not about films anymore. Everyone is commenting on everything around. So, if you read everything, you will be confused. I have my own filters. I don't want anything that can affect my decision as an actor, that disturbs my integrity as an actor. I don't want to be doubtful about my choices, said Rasika. Meanwhile, ahead of the films release, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu hosted a gathering for the cast and crew. Rasika recalled how a chef from Lucknow was invited to cook for the team during the celebrations. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment has announced a three-film deal to shoot its upcoming productions in Australia. The announcement was made on Thursday, September 3, during the visit of NSW Premier Chris Minns to the production houses Mumbai office. The three-film collaboration includes Heyy Babyy 2, the sequel to the 2007 comedy Heyy Babyy. The original film was also shot in Australia, marking a return to the country for the franchise. The latest collaboration is being undertaken through Sydney-based TEMPLE and is aimed at further strengthening the production houses association with the Australian film industry. Premier Chris Minns, who was in India from August 31 to September 3, visited the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment office as part of his India tour. During the visit, he toured the office and interacted with the team before the three-film Australia deal was announced. Speaking about the collaboration, Sajid Nadiadwala said: Australia is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but also an incredibly film-friendly country with a highly professional, efficient and welcoming environment for filmmakers. From our directors to EP had all had a fantastic time shooting there, and the support and warmth extended to our team made the entire process truly memorable. The experience has encouraged us to look at Australia as a key destination for our future productions, and we are now looking forward to taking three of our upcoming films there to shoot. It is a country we would be delighted to return to, time and again. It was also our pleasure to host Premier Chris Minns at Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and engage in a meaningful conversation about our future productions especially now that there is a co-production treaty. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nadiadwala Grandson (@nadiadwalagrandson) NSW Premier Chris Minns said, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment is one of the great names in Indian cinema, so having them choose Australia for three upcoming films is a big vote of confidence in our screen industry. Theyve had a long relationship with Australia, including filming the original Heyy Babyy here almost 20 years ago, and were really pleased they want to come back. These are big productions that employ a lot of people, from local crews and creatives to businesses on the ground, while putting NSW in front of audiences right across India. Weve got incredible locations, world-class crews and a strong Indian community. We want to make NSW an easy choice for Indian filmmakers looking to shoot their next big production. Australian filmmaker Anupam Sharma, who has previously supported Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainments production plans in Sydney and headed the first shoot of Heyy Babyy, added, Mr. Sajid Nadiadwala and his crew not only brought the biggest ensemble of stars to NSW ever but they also left the fondest memories with their professionalism and respect for the Australian way of working. It is a delight to be working with them again at a time when the Co-production Treaty is providing substantial benefits for Australian - Indian co-productions. The latest announcement builds on Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainments previous filming experience in Australia and comes amid efforts to strengthen production and creative collaborations between the Indian and Australian film industries. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, which has marked 75 years in the entertainment industry, has been involved in film production across generations. Sajid Nadiadwala currently leads the production house and continues to develop projects across different formats and markets. The success of Emraan Hashmi starrer Awarapan 2 has brought renewed attention to the film that started the franchise. The original Awarapan, co-produced by Vishesh Bhatt, is now streaming globally on Prime Video, allowing audiences to revisit the story of Shivam Pandit and introducing newer viewers to the world that has continued with the recently released sequel. Directed by Mohit Suri, Awarapan featured Emraan Hashmi in the lead role as Shivam Pandit. The film explored themes of love, loss, heartbreak and faith, with Shivams emotional journey forming the central narrative. Over the years, the film has developed a strong following, with its music, characters and dramatic storytelling becoming key parts of its enduring appeal. The decision to bring the original film to Prime Video comes at a time when interest in the franchise has increased following the release of Awarapan 2. While audiences who watched the sequel in theatres can now return to the beginning of Shivam Pandits story, viewers discovering the franchise through its latest instalment also have an opportunity to explore its origins. Vishesh Bhatt, who also serves as the writer-producer of Awarapan 2, spoke about the creation of Shivam Pandit and the response the character and film received over the years. He said, Emraan Hashmi, playing a broken-hearted character, was created first, followed by the title Awarapan. Shivam Pandits emotional journey was beautifully portrayed by Emraan, which was the central theme, and it resonated deeply far beyond the film. Along with it came the love for all the characters, the soulful music and its rich drama. The greatest testament to what Awarapan meant for the audience is that, with time, it has only grown stronger and is fondly remembered. With Awarapan now available to stream globally on Prime Video and Awarapan 2 continuing its theatrical run worldwide, viewers can experience the franchise across both chapters. The streaming availability of the original also provides audiences with an opportunity to revisit the character of Shivam Pandit and the narrative that established the franchise. While Awarapan 2 continues to play in cinemas, the original Awarapan is now streaming globally on Prime Video. Star Plus is set to introduce a large-scale arena for its upcoming quiz-based reality show India Ke Top 1%, hosted by Anil Kapoor. The show will bring 100 contestants from different backgrounds together on an amphitheatre-style set, with technology and visual elements designed to support the format of the competition. The contestants featured on the show will include students, homemakers, shopkeepers, YouTubers, magicians and real estate agents, among others. They will come from both rural and urban parts of India, bringing together participants from varied professions and backgrounds. The set has been designed to allow the action to be captured from multiple angles, with cameras positioned across the arena. The production also features 100 individual tablets through which contestants can participate in the game in either Hindi or English. Large screens around the arena will display the ongoing action and help contestants stay connected with the proceedings. Another feature of the set is the individual status lighting assigned to each contestant. The lighting changes according to their progress in the competition, with colours shifting from blue to red as the game moves forward. A circular LED floor forms another key component of the arena, displaying gameplay graphics and percentage levels as contestants advance towards the Top 1%. According to the makers, the set was constructed within a month with the involvement of hundreds of people. The design process itself involved exploring multiple options over a period of two to three months before the final arena was selected. Speaking about designing Star Plus' India Ke Top 1% set, Varsha Jain shared, Creating the set of India Ke Top 1% has been an incredibly exciting and creatively satisfying experience. To give the show a premium, larger-than-life feel, we explored multiple options for almost two to three months before finalizing this space. It then took us another month, along with the hard work of hundreds of people, to build the entire arena. Every element has been carefully designed and handcrafted down to the finest detail. We wanted the set to feel glossy and futuristic, but also warm, fun and inviting. For me, the individual status lighting, which changes with each contestants journey, and the circular LED floor, which brings the gameplay and percentage levels alive, are the biggest highlights. Despite the scale and technology, the set never feels intimidating, and that balance is what makes it truly special. India Ke Top 1% is scheduled to premiere on September 19 at 8 PM on Star Plus and JioHotstar. The show will see Anil Kapoor interact with the 100 contestants as they compete through the quiz format, with the arena serving as the central setting for the game. Amaal Mallik completes 11 years of O Khuda: From singing debut in Hero to Awarapan 2
Amaal Mallik is marking 11 years since the release of O Khuda, the song that introduced him as a playback singer and added a new dimension to his career as a composer. Released on September 3, 2015, the song featured in Hero and became an important milestone in Malliks musical journey. Mallik had already made his mark as a composer with Jai Ho before making his singing debut. Interestingly, his transition to playback singing came after he recorded a scratch version of O Khuda. Director Nikkhil Advani reportedly responded positively to the version, particularly its youthful quality. After multiple singers were considered for the track, Malliks scratch recording was ultimately retained as the final version. Following O Khuda, Mallik continued to establish himself as both a composer and vocalist in the Hindi film music industry. Over the years, his work has included songs such as Hua Hain Aaj Pehli Baar, Bol Do Na Zara, Besabriyaan, Aashiq Surrender Hua, Gulabi 2.0 and Tere Mere, among other tracks. The 11-year milestone now coincides with Malliks association with Awarapan 2, connecting the singer-composer to another film franchise known for its music and emotional storytelling. Mallik is part of the song Yeh Awarapan, which features Arijit Singh and Mallik. Arijits version has already been released, while Malliks own version is set to arrive soon. The release of his version will offer listeners an opportunity to hear Malliks interpretation of the track following Arijit Singhs rendition. For the musician, the association also marks a connection between different stages of his career from an unexpected scratch recording that led to his singing debut to contributing as an established composer and singer to Awarapan 2. Reflecting on the journey, Amaal Mallik said, When I look back at O Khuda today, I feel incredibly grateful because I had no idea that one song would open such a beautiful chapter in my life. Eleven years later, being part of Awarapan 2 feels very special. Ive grown so much as a musician, and Im really excited for people to hear my version of Yeh Awarapan after Arijits version. With Yeh Awarapan connecting Mallik to the Awarapan franchise, the song also becomes part of a musical journey that began with his first playback recording 11 years ago.
