Emraan Hashmi began his career with Footpath (2003), in which he stole the thunder, despite being in a supporting role. His next film, the erotic musical thriller Murder (2004), was a huge hit and made him a household name. He then starred in several memorable films and his track record got a boost when Murder 2 (2011) opened at Rs. 7.10 crores. The Dirty Picture (2011) had an opening of Rs. 9.54 crores while Raaz 3 (2012)s first day collections were a huge Rs. 10.47 crores. From here, his track record got affected, though in between, he was seen in the multi-starrer Baadshaho (2017). It opened at Rs. 12.60 crores and is his biggest opener to date. Trade experts feel that his upcoming film, Awarapan 2, has the potential to beat Baadshahos day 1 figure. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, Its good to see Emraan back in action. At one point in time, he was riding a very successful wave. Then, suddenly, there was a dip. But now, its good to see the return of those days when his films used to get a strong initial. Its happening again with Awarapan 2. When asked if Awarapan 2 can emerge as his highest opener, he replied, Yes, theres a possibility and that too despite solid competition from Batwara 1947, a film featuring big names like Sunny Deol, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi. Its a feat. Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, explained, Theres tremendous demand for Awarapan 2 among the youth. The youngsters have heard about the legend of Emraan Hashmi, but they havent experienced him in that avatar on the big screen. They are eager to see him in a mass-appealing role, and Awarapan 2 is the apt film for that. Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal opined, I find him to be a very decent actor. But he went and picked some wrong films. There are two actors for whom I feel very bad Emraan Hashmi and Shahid Kapoor. Both are highly talented, but due to some bad choices, their track record suffered. He added, A good script and good music will always help a film become a super-hit. Saiyaara is a great example of that. This year, Main Vaapas Aaunga also benefited from the same factors. Though it initially had a very slow start, it later picked up and how. Sadly, our filmmakers often give less importance to both a good script and good music. Atul Mohan stated, If audiences like an actor in a certain image, it is important for that actor to do films in that space. Emraan reached a different level, thanks to the kind of films he did. But then he started doing arty films. He had a set audience, and that fan base exists even today. The fact that it still exists shows that people continue to love him and have expectations from him. So, hes doing the right thing by working in a film like Awarapan 2. Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has opened up about his nearly decade-long absence from the Indian music industry, reflecting on the restrictions placed on Pakistani artistes in India and how the ban influenced his musical journey. In a recent conversation with Kris Fade on his YouTube channel, the singer also addressed his continued connection with Indian fans, who continue to listen to his music despite the restrictions. Atif said it has been almost 10 years since he was banned from working in India following the decision to restrict Pakistani artistes from the country. Its been almost 10 years since I was banned in India. That was the decision of the Indian government; they decided to ban artistes from Pakistan. Indian artistes are also banned in Pakistan now. For the past 10 years, I havent done a song there, he said. The singer also revealed that his Indian fans have continued to find ways to access his music. My fans are listening over VPN and they burn the CDs and give them to people. Not that I appreciate piracy, but music will reach wherever it has to reach, Atif said. Addressing his Indian listeners directly, Atif said that while he does not miss working in India, he does miss his fans there. Dont feel bad about it, dont feel sad about it. I always wanted to tell you that I miss you guys. I dont miss working over there, but I miss you guys, he said. He also credited his experience in playback singing with helping him discover his own musical identity. Atif explained that had the ban not happened, he may not have explored his abilities in the same way. I have learnt a lot from playback singing and if this ban didnt happen, I think I would be unable to make my own music, he said. I thank you guys for that as well. I thank those who have banned me as well, otherwise I wouldnt be able to explore myself. Pakistani artistes faced restrictions in India in 2016 after tensions escalated following the Uri terror attack. The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) passed a resolution asking its members not to hire Pakistani artistes and technicians until relations between the two countries improved. Further restrictions followed in 2019 after the Pulwama terror attack. Atif remains one of the most popular Pakistani singers among Indian audiences. His Bollywood journey began with Aadat in Kalyug, followed by songs such as Woh Lamhe, Tere Bin, Pehli Nazar Mein, Tera Hone Laga Hoon, Tu Jaane Na, Jeene Laga Hoon, Be Intehaan, Jeena Jeena and Tere Sang Yaara. His work has also earned him multiple Filmfare nominations for Best Male Playback Singer. Also Read : Atif Aslam to kick off 13-city North America tour, Borderless 2025, this September
Actor Kranti Prakash Jha, known for Raktanchal, has said his path to acting was never planned, and that his original ambition was to clear the UPSC examination and become an IPS officer. Jha said, You can call me an accidental actor. He added that he and his brother watched close to 250 films a year as children and kept a notebook recording every film they saw. Jha said acting did not cross his mind even while he was part of the theatre society at Hindu College, founded by filmmaker Imtiaz Ali. He said, I was part of the theatre culture at Hindu College. Imtiaz Ali and Vishal Bhardwaj are seniors from our college theatre group. I was a very small part of that ecosystem, working on productions and in the drama society, but I never thought of becoming an actor. He said, UPSC was my only aim. I wanted to become an IPS officer. On the fashion shows he took part in during college, he said, I also did fashion shows because I was told I was handsome. Jha said the turning point came when friends encouraged him to spend a few months in Mumbai before returning to his UPSC preparation. He credited screenwriter Ritesh Shah, known for Pink, and lyricist, writer and actor Swanand Kirkire, saying, I never had to go through that. Ritesh Shah and Swanand Kirkire helped me with food and shelter. They took me along to audition and find something new in life. Speaking about his belief in destiny, Jha said, I have always believed in Jo Ram Rachi Rakha. He went from preparing for the civil services to becoming an established performer in the OTT space, a journey he describes as unplanned. The much-awaited teaser of Haiwaan has been unveiled, offering audiences a glimpse of Akshay Kumar in a never-seen-before avatar. Directed by Priyadarshan, the psychological thriller marks Akshays first full-fledged portrayal of an out-and-out negative character, with the actor stepping into a dark and intense persona. Speaking about his role, Akshay Kumar revealed that his character has no shades of grey and is purely evil. The actor also admitted that playing a psycho on screen was something he had wanted to explore for a long time. As the title goes, I am playing Haiwaan and my character has no grey shades; he's out-and-out evil. I always wanted to play a psycho on screen, he says and further explains how this film allows him to challenge himself as an actor. With my last four-five films, I have tried to switch between completely different genres: comedy, horror, action, drama. This is my first time playing evil in the truest sense. I like to constantly challenge myself and Haiwaan is that challenge for me, he stated. The actors transformation is already attracting attention, with the teaser presenting him in a beanie and sporting an intense look that hints at the unsettling character he plays. For Priyadarshan, the actors appearance played an unexpected role in shaping the character. The filmmaker revealed that he first noticed Akshay wearing a beanie on the sets of Bhooth Bangla and immediately liked the look. While narrating Haiwaan, Priyadarshan had not initially imagined Akshay taking on the negative role. I saw Akshay casually wearing a beanie on the sets of Bhooth Bangla and immediately liked the look. While narrating Haiwaan, I never thought he would do the negative character. I was shocked when he asked, 'Can I do it?' I thought this would give me a different Akshay Kumar and a chance to see the actor's potential. Haiwaan brings Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan together for a dark psychological thriller, creating anticipation around the collaboration between the two cinematic icons. With Priyadarshan at the helm, the film promises an intense and shadowy world unlike Akshays recent outings. Haiwaan is scheduled to release in theatres on September 11, 2026. As Dia Mirza completes 25 years in the film industry, the actor reflected on her journey, the changing portrayal of women in cinema, her recent projects and her views on the responsibility of artists as citizens. In a conversation with NDTV, Dia spoke about choosing meaningful stories and why artists should not remain silent on issues that affect society. Discussing the evolution of women-centric storytelling, Dia acknowledged that powerful roles for women have existed for decades, citing filmmakers such as Mahesh Bhatt, Shyam Benegal and Govind Nihalani. She noted that actors including Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Waheeda Rehman and Sharmila Tagore benefited from such writing. However, she said commercial cinema later became largely focused on the male perspective, leaving women with less nuanced characters. According to Dia, the situation has changed in the last decade, with more filmmakers exploring the complexities of women and femininity. The actor also spoke about her approach to selecting projects. I don't pick roles. I pick stories, she said, explaining that she looks for narratives that can make audiences think and contribute to improving people's lives. Talking about Ikka, Dia recalled working with Akshaye Khanna and Sunny Deol. She described her scene with Akshaye as powerful and said the rehearsal just flowed without anything feeling forced. She also praised Sunny for being kind and generous, saying she felt comfortable portraying their complex relationship on screen. Dia further addressed her outspoken views on social justice, equality and climate change. Defending artists who speak on public issues, she said, To be an artist is to live truth and to learn and to evolve and to share. And if we don't vocalise our truths, then who will? She added that people do not have to be artists to question issues affecting society. As human beings, as parents, if something affects our children, whether it's the environment, education, or health, we're well within our rights as citizens to question that and to participate in the processes that help build better systems. Dia's latest project, Operation Safed Sagar, is currently streaming on Netflix. Riteish Deshmukhs Lock Upp wardrobe was a study in sharp, playful menswear!
As Lock Upp comes to an end, Riteish Deshmukh leaves behind more than his moments as the show's host. Across the season, his wardrobe proved that menswear can be polished without feeling predictable, with the actor moving comfortably between classic tailoring, bold colours, statement details and relaxed separates. From sharply cut suits to experimental jackets, his looks maintained a clear sense of structure while allowing room for personality. Here are eight outfits that stood out through the season. 1. Rust-Toned Double-Breasted Suit Riteish brought classic tailoring into focus with a rust-toned double-breasted suit. The earthy shade gave the otherwise traditional silhouette a contemporary update, while peaked lapels and a crisp white shirt kept the look refined. A brooch added a subtle decorative element, while sunglasses completed the outfit with a confident finish. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Riteish Deshmukh (@riteishd) 2. The Neon Green Statement Jacket Riteish wasn't afraid to experiment with colour. One of his most striking appearances came in a bright green jacket styled with black trousers and minimal accessories. The simplicity of the rest of the outfit allowed the jacket to remain the focal point. It was bold without becoming overly complicated. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Namrata (@namrata.deepak_) 3. Textured Brown-on-Brown Dressing Texture became the defining element of another look, where Riteish paired a distressed brown jacket with matching separates. The tonal dressing kept the outfit cohesive, while the worn-in texture added an element of ruggedness. The result was a relaxed take on coordinated dressing. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Riteish Deshmukh (@riteishd) 4. Beige Meets Black For a more understated appearance, Riteish opted for a beige zip-up jacket featuring subtle patterned detailing. Black trousers and dark sunglasses provided contrast, giving the outfit a clean and streamlined appearance. It was a reminder that neutral dressing can make an impact without relying on elaborate styling. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Riteish Deshmukh (@riteishd) 5. All-Black With a Horse Motif Riteish added personality to an otherwise classic all-black outfit with an embroidered horse motif. The design immediately drew attention while allowing the rest of the ensemble to remain relatively restrained. Rather than overwhelming the look, the motif worked as a statement detail against the dark palette. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aesha Merchant (@aeshy) 6. Black Suit With a Chain Detail Riteish took his tailoring in a more dramatic direction with a black double-breasted suit featuring metal chains across the chest. The unexpected accessory gave the structured suit an edgier character, almost resembling armour. It was a departure from conventional formalwear while retaining the sharpness of classic tailoring. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aesha Merchant (@aeshy) 7. Lime Green and Chocolate Brown Colour blocking took a more earthy route with a lime green overshirt paired with chocolate brown trousers and a neutral inner layer. The combination created a balanced contrast, with the relaxed overshirt keeping the look casual while the tailored trousers added polish. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Namrata (@namrata.deepak_) 8. Brown Leather Jacket With a Twist Riteish also gave classic leather dressing a contemporary update with a rich brown leather jacket layered over a crisp white shirt and matching white tie. Blue denim brought a more casual element to the combination, creating an interesting contrast between formal and relaxed pieces. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Riteish Deshmukh (@riteishd) What made Riteish Deshmukh's Lock Upp wardrobe particularly interesting was its range. He moved from conventional double-breasted tailoring to neon outerwear, textured separates and statement accessories without losing a sense of consistency. The looks also demonstrated how relatively simple styling choices can change the character of an outfit. A brooch could sharpen a classic suit, a chain could transform formalwear into something more rebellious, while an unexpected colour combination could make everyday separates feel more considered. As Lock Upp signs off, Riteish may have hosted the show, but his wardrobe certainly managed to command attention of its own. The August 14 box-office clash between Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947 is already witnessing a clear trend in audience preference, with Emraan Hashmi's film taking a significant lead over Sunny Deol's release in a Twitter poll. The poll asked users which film they would watch first when the two movies clash in cinemas on August 14. Out of 3,213 votes, 56.7% chose Awarapan 2, while 36.4% opted for Batwara 1947. Another 6.9% said they would watch both films back-to-back. This gives Awarapan 2 a 20.3 percentage-point lead over Batwara 1947 in the poll. Put another way, the Emraan Hashmi-starrer attracted substantially more support than its rival among the Twitter users who participated. The poll also generated considerable activity, recording 16,647 impressions and 1,689 engagements. It received 265 detail expands and generated 44 profile visits, while link clicks stood at zero. The numbers suggest that the August 14 clash has attracted considerable interest online. More importantly, the poll's results show that Awarapan 2 is currently ahead when audiences are asked to choose between the two releases. Only 6.9% selected the option of watching both films back-to-back, meaning the overwhelming majority of respondents who expressed a preference picked one film over the other. The early audience sentiment is also reflected in the estimated opening-day collections being discussed for the two films. Awarapan 2 is currently estimated to open in the Rs. 2 2.5 crore range, while Batwara 1947 is estimated at around Rs. 1 crore on its first day based on ticket sales as of Wednesday 11 AM. That would put Awarapan 2's opening at nearly two times the estimated collection of Batwara 1947. Even when looking at the broader projected ranges, Awarapan 2's lower-end estimate is more than twice Batwara 1947's upper-end estimate. Thus, the box-office projections suggest that the gap could be significantly larger than a simple 2X advantage if the estimates translate into actual collections. While the early numbers favour Awarapan 2, the actual box-office battle will ultimately be decided once both films reach cinemas. Advance audience interest, show allocation, occupancy, word of mouth and the August 14 holiday period could all influence the final opening-day figures. A social-media poll can indicate audience sentiment, but it cannot by itself predict actual box-office performance. For now, however, the early picture is firmly in favour of Awarapan 2. With 56.7% of Twitter poll respondents choosing Awarapan 2 against 36.4% for Batwara 1947, Emraan Hashmi's film enjoys a 20.3-point lead in audience preference. If the current opening-day estimates also hold, Awarapan 2 could potentially open at more than twice Batwara 1947's collectionand possibly close to four times its first-day haul. The August 14 clash is therefore shaping up as an intriguing battle, but the early numbers suggest that Awarapan 2 has the stronger momentum going into release. Salman Khan recreates Jeene Ke Hain Chaar Din hook step, fans cant stop cheering

For the occasion, Salman is seen dressed casually in a blue T-shirt and denim jeans, which he pairs with a brown jacket. He completes his look with a French-style hat. The video begins with the actor breaking into the iconic hook step, immediately drawing enthusiastic reactions from those present. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Telly Talk (@tellytalkindia) However, the exact details surrounding the viral footage remain unclear. Two days are left for the release of Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947. We spoke to trade experts to gauge the advance booking trends and understand what kind of opening the two films can expect at the box office. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, Looking at the advance trend, Awarapan 2 definitely has an edge. Its ticket sales have been very good. The first part didnt work even though it was a brilliant film. It was among Emraans best efforts. I remember talking to the Bhatts after the release of Awarapan. They were totally shaken and were wondering, Yeh hua kya? He added, However, over time, the film cultivated a good fan base amongst viewers of all ages. But at the time of its release, it didnt get the attention it deserved. It clashed with Aap Kaa Surroor, which was a wave at that time. Himesh Reshammiya was at his peak then. Meanwhile, Apne featured the three Deols together. Hence, Awarapan got completely sidelined. Thankfully, we are now seeing its true potential, with people buying tickets in hordes. Theres a huge difference between the bookings of Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947 at present. Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, explained, Awarapan 2 has an edge and has sold more tickets than Batwara 1947. The main actors in Batwara 1947 are playing characters that are contrary to their established image. Sunny Deol has a hardcore nationalist image. This image was further bolstered by his revival film, Gadar 2 (2023), in which he plays a true patriot who goes to Pakistan to save his son. However, in Batwara 1947, he plays a Muslim who migrates to Pakistan. He has to leave India because it is no longer fit for him to live there due to his religion. Itll be difficult for audiences to imagine him playing such a character because they associate him with a certain image, thanks to films like Gadar (2001), Indian (2001), Maa Tujhe Salaam (2002), etc. He also remarked, Shabana Azmi ji is a great actress, no doubt. However, we need to understand that actors also have an off-screen image. And we are all aware of what her off-screen image and political views are. Hence, it wont be easy for audiences to digest her in such a role. In commercial cinema, it is very important that your on-screen and off-screen images are in sync. Had Jaya Bachchan been cast in the same role, it would have made a lot of difference. He added, Batwara 1947 will be a great film. Theres no doubt about it. But commercially, its standing is on very weak ground. This is a chief reason why the advances have been slow. Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, The advance of both films is not as much as one would expect from an Independence Day release. Nevertheless, if the films get good word of mouth, theyll work at the box office. As per advance trends, Awarapan 2 is clearly leading Batwara 1947 in many centres. Like Vishek Chauhan, he also said, Sunny is playing a Muslim character. Now, how he has been presented remains to be seen. Day 1 prediction Awarapans first part had a lifetime of just Rs. 7.76 crores. All trade experts are of the opinion that Awarapan 2 will comfortably beat the lifetime number of Awarapan on the first day itself. Taran Adarsh said, Yes, definitely itll cross Awarapans lifetime on Day 1. I think Awarapan 2 will open in double digits. It has a fan base and people would want to watch what happens next in Shivams life. Vishek Chauhan agreed and added, Awarapan 2 should open at Rs. 10-12 crores. As for Batwara, its first day number would be Rs. 7-8 crores. Both films should collect Rs. 20 crores on the first day. Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal predicted, Batwara 1947 should open at Rs. 8 crores or Rs. 8.50 crores. Awarapan 2 should open at Rs. 12.50 crores or Rs. 13 crores. It can even go higher. He also confirmed that Awarapans lifetime collection will be crossed on the day of Awarapan 2s release. Atul Mohan was also of the same opinion about Awarapan 2 surpassing Awarapans lifetime collection on Day 1. Interestingly, Shabana Azmi stars in both Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947. On this, he joked, Shabana Azmis Day 1 will be huge, combining both the films! When asked whether Batwara 1947 would open in single digits or double digits, Taran Adarsh replied, Its a bit too early to say. Spot bookings can really change the tide. This has happened in the recent past. The mass centres are driven by spot bookings. He continued, Advance booking can never be a barometer. Sunny Deol has a huge fan base in mass pockets. Hence, with the power of spot bookings, the film could jump to an impressive opening number. Atul Mohan exulted, The public now believes in the idea of walk-in. Tickets are already expensive and one needs to pay Rs. 50-60 more per ticket if they book online. Hence, many prefer to buy from the ticket counter before the show.
