Prajakta Koli becomes first Indian to join UN SDG action awards judging panel
Prajakta Koli has been appointed to the High-Level Panel of Judges for the 2026 Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards. With the appointment, she becomes the first Indian to serve on the judging panel and the only Indian representative on this years jury. The actor, content creator, activist and bestselling author will be part of the panel evaluating more than 5,000 entries submitted from 190 countries. The global recognition programme is organised by the UN SDG Action Campaign and hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Prajakta is known for her work in entertainment, including the Netflix romantic-comedy series Mismatched. She also recently appeared in Netflixs war drama Operation Safed Sagar. Her appointment continues the participation of prominent names from the entertainment industry on the judging panel in recent years, including South African actor Nomzamo Mbatha, Somali-Canadian model and actor Sabrina Dhowre Elba, Turkish actor Merve Dizdar and Turkish visual storyteller Uur Gallenku. The 2026 panel features an international group of judges, including UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, UNDP Administrator and former Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs Felipe Paullier, Oxfam International Executive Director Amitabh Behar and Cannes Best Actress winner Merve Dizdar. Now in its ninth year, the UN SDG Action Awards recognises initiatives across three categories: the Changemaker Award, the Creativity Award and the Resilience Award. Nine global finalists will travel to Rome, Italy, for a coaching and capacity-building programme before the awards ceremony on October 29, 2026. The event will be broadcast globally through UN WebTV and Italys national broadcaster RAI. Speaking about her appointment, Prajakta Koli states, I have always believed in the power of storytelling, creativity and young people taking charge. In a world facing so many big challenges, progress starts with people. The Heroes of Tomorrow are fearless and persistent changemakers using innovation, art and bold action against the odds to build a more sustainable, equitable and peaceful world. Prajakta has also been involved in youth and climate advocacy. She was featured on the inaugural TIME100 Creators list and serves as UNDP Indias Youth Climate Champion. In this capacity, she has represented young people at international platforms including COP28, the World Economic Forum in Davos, the United Nations General Assembly and Climate Week NYC. The UN SDG Action Awards are produced in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Amitabh Bachchan recently opened up about an unfulfilled passion from his life during an upcoming episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18. The veteran actor spoke about his desire to learn music and expressed his regret over never having pursued it, offering viewers a rare glimpse into a more personal side of his life. The conversation took place when contestant Kritagya Nayyar, who is also a content creator, requested Amitabh Bachchan to participate in a fun game of This or That. Introducing his request, Kritagya said, Sir, meri ek request hai. Maine bataya tha ki main content banata hoon. Sir, aapse bada content creator koi bhi nahi hain iss country mein. (Sir, I have a request. I had told you that I make content. Sir, there is no bigger content creator than you in this country) Amitabh Bachchan responded with his characteristic humour, asking, Sir, kisne kaha aapko ye? (Sir, who told you this?) Kritagya then spoke about the actors contribution to cinema and the country before explaining that he wanted to play the game to create a reel and gain a few followers. During the interaction, Kritagya asked Amitabh Bachchan whether he would prefer to relive a day from his past or experience a day that he has never lived but always wanted to. The actor replied, Sir sahi mamle mai hamare jeevan mai itne ghatneye hue hai ke pata nahi konsa ho, aur dusra part na jeeya ho. (Sir, truly, so many incidents have happened in our life that we do not know which one it would be, and the second part, one that has not been lived) He then revealed that learning music has been one of his long-standing wishes. Amitabh Bachchan said, Sir sangeet hamne nahi sikha hai aur uske bahut khwaahish the. Ye log jo baja bajate hai, sitar hai, peti hai, gayeke jo hote hai vo bahot humko dhukh hota hai kyunki ke hum jab sunte hai kehte hai itna badhiya kaise gaa le, ye sab hota hai, ye hamne kabhi sikha nahi. Ghar mai sir jitne yantra hone chahiye sangeet sikhne ke liye voh sab ikkhatha kar ke rakha hua hai. Uske upar phool mala hum chadhate hai ke ek din ayega jab hum kuch sikhenge. Ab 84 varsh ho gaye hain, kuch nahi aaya hamein, tho iss baat ka humko bahut dukh hai. (Sir, we have not learnt music and we had a great desire for it. These people who play instruments, there is the sitar, there is the peti, those who are singers, it makes us very sad because when we hear them, we say how can one sing so beautifully, all this happens, we have never learnt this. At home, sir, all the instruments that should be there to learn music have been collected and kept. On top of them, we put a flower garland, that one day will come when we will learn something. Now 84 years have passed, nothing has come to us, so we are very sad about this.) The revelation comes as a candid admission from the 84-year-old actor, who has spent decades at the forefront of Indian cinema. Sharat Saxena shares health update after 6-hour spine surgery: No more walking with the stic
Sharat Saxena has undergone a six-hour spine surgery at the age of 76 and has shared an update about his recovery with fans on social media. The actor appeared to be in good spirits following the procedure and used his trademark sense of humour while documenting the experience. Sharat took to Instagram on Friday and posted a montage of pictures from before and after his surgery. The first image showed the actor lying on a hospital bed and looking at the camera, with the words, Surgery done. The pictures that followed featured Sharat leaving the hospital with his family and later celebrating the successful procedure with them. Despite undergoing a lengthy surgery, Sharat appeared upbeat in the photos. In one of the slides, he was seen holding a glass as he joked about his plans following the procedure. The dual milestones underline just how expansive her presence has become this year, moving fluidly between acting, directing and producing across Indian and American cinema. In Arya, written and directed by Neil Tuli, Sayani plays the title role, that of a disciplined piano teacher from a well-known and prestigious Indian conservatory who reluctantly takes on an assignment in northern Minnesota, with hopes of rescuing a struggling band program while also fuelling her own career ambitions back home. The couple welcomed twin boys in March 2012. In 2017, they welcomed another set of twin boys, but Shamsher died shortly after birth due to a heart defect. Shobhaa De has shared her reaction to Mirzapur: The Movie, admitting that the film did not work for her despite the popularity of the franchise. Shobhaa revealed that she had never watched the Amazon Prime Video series Mirzapur before deciding to watch its big-screen spin-off, directed by Gurmeet Singh. After watching the film, she said she was left questioning the decision to make it. In an Instagram Reel shared on Thursday, Shobhaa said, All I can say is Mirzapur: The Movie maybe should not have been made at all. She explained that she went into the theatre with expectations because of the franchises popularity and the buildup around the film. I went here with a lot of expectations, given the whole hype and the whole buildup to the brand Mirzapur. I came away feeling, What the hell is going on?, she said. While Shobhaa was critical of several aspects of the film, she praised its ensemble cast. She particularly highlighted Ravi Kishans performance as Babban Babua Yadav, calling it brilliant, while describing Ali Fazals portrayal of Guddu as unbelievably good. However, she was less impressed with Pankaj Tripathis performance as Kaleen Bhaiya. Mr. Tripathi playing Mr. Tripathi has become a bit too monotonous, Shobhaa said, adding, The same old expressions, the same old delivery. She also commented on the intimate scene between Pankaj Tripathi and Rasika Dugal, who plays Beena Tripathi. Shobhaa said she was surprised to see Tripathi, whom she referred to as Mr. Goodie-Goodie, doing a full-on sex scene. She described Dugals character as Lady Macbeth and vamp-ish. Among her other concerns were the films violence and storyline. Shobhaa described it as Otherwise violence of every conceivable kind for no reason and complained about a story that goes nowhere. Summing up her reaction, she said, Maybe, its meant for men. It wasnt meant for me. In her caption, Shobhaa revealed that she spent Rs 900 on the ticket and another Rs 260 on bhelpuri. She said she spent close to four hours wondering why I was watching a movie which had multiple set pieces randomly strung together. Star Cast: Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta, Gurfateh Singh Pirzada Director: Nikkhil Advani Synopsis: THE REVOLUTIONARIES is the story of unsung heroes. Rash Behari Bose (Bhuvan Bam) is an assistant professor in the chemistry department of a college in Dehradun. He has successfully created the impression that he is firmly loyal to the British Crown. In reality, he is secretly plotting to strike at the Empire. On December 23, 1912, he, along with Basanta Kumar Biswas (Rajdeep Bhattacharya), hurls a self-made bomb at the convoy of Lord Hardinge (Richard John Maddison), the Viceroy and Governor-General of India. Hardinge survives, though he is severely injured in the attack. Lt Col Reginald Edward Harry Dyer (Jason Shah) is deeply disturbed by the incident and vows to track down the culprit. His investigation brings him to Dehradun, but Rash Behari Bose escapes in the nick of time. Severely injured, Rash reaches Benaras, where the Sanyal family, headed by Abani (Tota Roy Chaudhary), takes care of his treatment and recovery. The Sanyals have secretly been helping revolutionaries while ensuring that the British remain completely unaware of their activities. Meanwhile, Abani's nephew, Sachindra Nath Sanyal (Rohit Saraf), is no longer content remaining in the shadows. Inspired by Rash Behari Bose, he wants to actively participate in the freedom struggle. While Rash is recuperating at the Sanyal mansion, Sachindra is introduced to Pratibha (Pratibha Ranta) as a prospective bride. Pratibha develops feelings for Sachindra after learning about his revolutionary leanings. Meanwhile, Dyer gets an indication that Rash Behari Bose may be hiding in Benaras and arrives in the holy city. What happens next forms the rest of the series. The Revolutionaries Story Review: THE REVOLUTIONARIES is adapted from the book 'Revolutionaries: The Other Side Of How India Won Its Freedom' by Sanjeev Sanyal. Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, Akshita Wadhwana, Shobhit Narang and Rutvi Mehta's story is truly fascinating as it throws light on those freedom fighters that the aam junta might not know about. Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, Akshita Wadhwana, Shobhit Narang and Rutvi Mehta's screenplay is very captivating and also moving in some places. However, the writing gets stretched in some places. Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, Akshita Wadhwana, Shobhit Narang and Rutvi Mehta's dialogues are heroic while remaining firmly in sync with the world and tone of the series. Nikkhil Advani's direction is supreme. THE REVOLUTIONARIES is mounted on a grand scale and it is evident that it is an expensive production. Nikkhil does full justice to the grandeur. More importantly, the series tells the stories of revolutionaries whose names may be familiar to many, but whose extraordinary exploits are not widely known. In fact, viewers would be amazed to learn about what these freedom fighters managed to pull off and how their actions later inspired several other great revolutionaries. And thats not all. Dyer is largely associated with the ghastly Jallianwala Bagh massacre. This web series attempts to shed light on his life before that infamous episode, though the entire track of him chasing Rash Behari Bose is fictional. Nevertheless, the show effectively brings out his devious mindset and childhood trauma. The freedom fighters are well etched as characters and hence, one constantly roots for them. Several nail-biting sequences stand out, including the thrilling chase in Dehradun, the raid at Bengali Tola in Benaras, the fake funeral in Benaras, the firing in Chandernagore and its aftermath, Pratibhas daring entry in Chandernagore and the plane crash sequence. The madness at the docks is another highlight, while the climax is memorable. On the flipside, the web series is too lengthy. There are eight episodes, most of which have a run time of 50 minutes. The makers pack in too much with several characters. Ideally, they should have shortened the proceedings. A few characters like the ever-coughing Kirpal Singh (Riyansh Taneja) appear all of a sudden. Sachindra Nath and Pritabhas love story develops too quickly and is unconvincing. Even though the love story and the songs are fine, they often take away from the realism of the series. The makers probably wanted to make the series more commercial, but the shift in tonality seems abrupt in some places. The Revolutionaries Performances: Bhuvan Bam is astonishing in the role of Rash Behari Bose. The actor has a certain image owing to his funny videos and hence, entrusting him with such a serious role is a risk. Thankfully, it pays off. He has the maximum screen time and delivers a performance that will be remembered. Rohit Saraf, too, breaks his image and comes up with a terrific and heroic act. At the same time, he also impresses in the romantic portions, something that his fans have always loved. Pratibha Ranta leaves a huge mark yet again after LAAPATAA LADIES [2024]. Her character is also quite well fleshed out. Gurfateh Singh Pirzada (Bagha Jatin) makes his presence felt with his performance and screen presence, though he gets a bit overshadowed by the other actors. Jason Shah is outstanding as the antagonist and gets the nuances just right. Tota Roy Chaudhary delivers a dependable performance. Paoli Dam (Pishima) is a revelation, bringing genuine gravitas and grit to the screen. Avijit Dutt (Vishnu Chandra Sanyal) and Kashish Saluja (Kartar Singh Sarabha) make a strong impression. Pratik Laxman Motwani (Maan Singh) gets to play a crucial role and impresses. Riyansh Taneja is over-the-top and unintentionally funny as he plays a character who has supposedly been coughing every 20 or 30 seconds for ten years! Athena Loanna Wyn Vlachos (Rebecca O'Malley) and Liana Hu (Suzie; Chinatown) have limited screen time and yet, are memorable. Others who do well are Richard John Maddison, Edward Lorimer Barnabas Robinson (DCP Charles Tegart), Neil Bhoopalam (Lala Har Dayal), K C Shanker (P N Tagore) and Rajdeep Bhattacharya. The Revolutionaries music and other technical aspects: Songs are decent and well-woven into the narrative. Maahiya stands out due to its choreography and picturization. Jai Durga is grand while Aur Aayenge is exhilarating. Ashutosh Pathak's background score is in sync with the mood and theme. Gairik Sarkar's cinematography enhances the film's visual appeal and grandeur. Amin Khatib's action is entertaining, with only a few scenes turning gory. Zenia Daruvala's costumes and Surabhi Verma's production design effectively recreate the bygone era. The Revolutionaries Review Conclusion: On the whole, THE REVOLUTIONARIES is a grand, compelling and well-performed historical drama that succeeds in bringing the remarkable stories of lesser-known freedom fighters to the forefront.
