Shweta Tiwari questions Raj Thackeray over abusive DMs: Is this what being a Marathi Maanus means?
Shweta Tiwari, who is currently appearing in the second season of The Traitors, has spoken out against the online abuse she says she has been receiving on Instagram. The actor alleged that some users identifying themselves as Marathi and supporters of Raj Thackeray have sent her abusive messages. On Thursday, Shweta took to Instagram Stories to address the issue and highlighted what she described as the use of derogatory language against women on social media. She wrote, Today I want to talk about something that is both deeply concerning and unfortunately very common on social media: calling a woman: r****. Any woman. Of any age. From any profession. The actor questioned how people who appear to come from respectable and educated backgrounds could use such language against women online. She also shared screenshots of the profiles from which she said she had received the abusive messages. In another post, Shweta connected the incident to her personal association with Maharashtra. She wrote, I have lived in Maharashtra all my life. My father was brought up in Mumbai. All my life I have grown up seeing the pride and dignity attached to being a Marathi maanus I grew up believing that Marathi culture respected women, their strength and their dignity. Shweta then directly questioned Raj Thackeray over the alleged conduct of his supporters. So when I see people who proudly identify as Marathi maanus coming into women's DMs and calling them r****, I genuinely have to ask: Is this what being a Marathi maanus has come to mean? Raj Thackeray, if people like this are your supporters, then I would genuinely like to know, do you believe this is acceptable behaviour? she said. She concluded by stressing that disagreement or dislike does not justify abusive language towards women. Respect women not only the women you love but women. Period, Shweta wrote. Earlier that day, Shweta had also tagged Maharashtra FDA head Tukaram Mundhe after finding a cockroach in an Instamart delivery. Sharing a video, she said, We ordered Red Bull from Instamart, and we also received a cockroach with that. She later appealed to Mundhe to look into the matter. Mundhe has recently been in the spotlight for the Maharashtra FDAs inspections of food businesses and quick-commerce facilities. From being known as Malkin to emerging as one of the most talked-about personalities after The Traitors Season 2, Parul Gulati has managed to leave a lasting impression on audiences. Her confidence, sharp wit, effortless style and strong personality have earned her a growing fan following across social media. Speaking about the audience response, Parul said, The love I am receiving after The Traitors has honestly been overwhelming and deeply touching. As an artist, performer and entrepreneur, there is nothing more rewarding than knowing that people connected with the person they saw on screen. I have always believed that being yourself is your biggest strength, and the fact that audiences have embraced my personality, my confidence and even my quirks makes this journey incredibly special. She added, Being called a diva is definitely flattering, but for me, I want to be remembered as someone who was true to herself and my instinct, played her game with conviction and enjoyed every moment of the experience. The social-media love has also given Parul a new perspective on the connection between reality-show personalities and audiences. Reality shows allow people to see different layers of you. You cannot hide behind a character forever. So when people appreciate you for who you genuinely are, that love feels very real. Every message, comment and post from the audience reminds me why I chose to take this journey, she said. Paruls journey after The Traitors proves that audiences are increasingly drawn to personalities who bring more than just glamour to the screen. Abhishek Bachchan has revealed the personal reasons behind his decision to choose Jaipur as the home city for his Pro Kabaddi League team, the Jaipur Pink Panthers. Speaking on the podcast Future Unplugged, the actor-turned-entrepreneur opened up about his emotional connection with the city and recalled that it was also where his relationship with Aishwarya Rai began. Abhishek acquired the Jaipur team in 2014, ahead of the inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League. The team went on to win the first and ninth seasons of the league. Explaining why he picked Jaipur for his first venture into sports, Abhishek said, Jaipur is where I shot a part of my first film. It was an auspicious thing to start something new. Abhishek made his Bollywood debut with JP Duttas 2000 romantic drama Refugee. While the film was primarily shot in Kutch, Gujarat, some portions were filmed in Jaipur as well. The actor revealed that Jaipur held an even deeper significance because of his relationship with Aishwarya. It was also a city where Aishwarya and I started dating. It has an emotional part, he said. The couple worked together on Umrao Jaan in 2006, portions of which were shot in Jaipur. Their relationship reportedly began around the time they worked on the film. Abhishek also explained the inspiration behind the teams name. While Jaipur is famously known as the Pink City, the choice of pink had a personal reason. It was my daughters favourite colour at that point of time, he said, referring to Aaradhya Bachchan, whom he and Aishwarya welcomed in 2011. The actor further revealed that the Pink Panther also had a family connection, as Aishwarya played Sonia in The Pink Panther 2. If you see, our Pink Panther has blue-green eyes which are the same as my wifes. So, there is a personal connect to everything about Jaipur Pink Panthers, Abhishek added. Abhishek and Aishwarya first appeared together in Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke in 2000 and later reunited in Kuch Naa Kaho. They also featured alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the popular song Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli. After Umrao Jaan, they worked together in Dhoom 2 and Guru. The couple announced their engagement ahead of Gurus release and married in 2007. They later appeared together in Sarkar Raj. Prime Video has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming original movie Babita Singh Reporting, offering a glimpse into an investigative thriller centred on a murder case that leads its protagonist into a web of secrets and unexpected revelations. Directed by Ambiecka Pandit and written by Amita Vyas, the film stars Nimisha Sajayan in the lead role, with Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar in pivotal roles. Set to premiere on Prime Video on August 28, Babita Singh Reporting follows Babita Singh, fondly known as Baby, a young police officer whose life takes an unexpected turn after her childhood friend Bansi, played by Barun Sobti, is murdered. Determined to uncover the truth behind his death, Baby begins following a trail of clues that gradually leads her towards discoveries that have a personal connection to her own life. The trailer introduces Baby as she attempts to piece together the circumstances surrounding Bansis murder. As the investigation progresses, she finds herself confronting secrets and relationships that challenge her understanding of the people around her. The film appears to combine the investigation with an emotional layer, exploring the impact of the case on Baby personally. Speaking about the film, director Ambiecka Pandit said, It is a story about an investigation that quietly unravels much more than just a murder. I wanted the mystery and emotion to move together, while keeping the storytelling grounded and engaging. The film also reflects the realities many women navigatehaving their emotions dismissed, constantly adjusting, and struggling to be heard. At the same time, it is an entertaining investigation with layered characters and family dynamics. Im excited for audiences in India and around the world to experience Babita Singh Reporting when it premieres on Prime Video on August 28. View this post on Instagram A post shared by prime video IN (@primevideoin) Nimisha Sajayan, who plays Babita Singh aka Baby, also spoke about her experience of portraying the character. She said, Baby is one of those characters that has stayed with me and, in many ways, changed me as a person. Playing her made me look inward and rethink the relationships in my own lifehow I show up in them, what I expect from them, and how often we adjust without even realising it. That personal connection made Baby one of the most meaningful characters I have played, and one I know I will carry with me for a long time. Im excited for audiences to discover her and experience Babita Singh Reporting when it premieres on Prime Video. Babita Singh Reporting has been produced by Saurabh Malhotra, Manuj Mittra and Tina Tharwani under the banner of Film Squad Productions in association with Act Three. Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt have left a strong impression on 7 Dogs directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The filmmakers, known for directing the Bad Boys franchise, spoke about their experience of working with the Bollywood actors and praised their screen presence, instincts and understanding of action cinema. Salman and Sanjay play important roles in 7 Dogs, an international action film featuring actors from Indian, Egyptian, Italian and American cinema. The film stars Ahmed Ezz and Karim Abdel Aziz in the lead roles, alongside Monica Bellucci and Giancarlo Esposito. Adil El Arbi compares Salman Khan with Will Smith Adil El Arbi said Salmans impact became apparent as soon as the camera started rolling. Comparing his presence to that of Will Smith, with whom the directors worked on the Bad Boys franchise, Adil described Salmans ability to elevate even simple scenes. Theres a lot of charisma. You get the same feeling when Will Smith is on set. Its like, Oh, thats what a superstar looks like. From the moment you put the camera on him, something magical happens, El Arbi told PTI in an interview. He added that Salman quickly understands what a scene requires and then brings his own interpretation to it. He knows right away what the scene is. And he will do it perfectly. And then he will create, he will give you so much more. And that is like going to film school. Youre really witnessing cinema happening before your eyes, he said. Bilall Fallah also recalled noticing Salmans spontaneous contributions while reviewing footage during editing. According to him, the actor would sometimes add elements, including one-liners, that the directors only noticed later. During editing, when I was looking at the takes, there was always something new that he put in that I didnt even realise when I was on set. He just makes a scene memorable. Even if its just a short moment, he creates something that is pure cinema, he added. Sanjay Dutt also impresses the filmmakers The directors also praised Sanjay Dutt, who plays Ranjeet, the Indian member of the Seven Dogs alliance responsible for distributing the fictional synthetic drug Pink Lady in India. Adil said the team recently began watching Dutts two-part spy thriller Dhurandhar after noticing the attention surrounding its success. We started to watch the Dhurandhar series, because everybodys talking about what a huge success it is, he said. He further highlighted Dutts experience with action films and pointed to the scale and complexity of Bollywood action filmmaking. Hes (Sanjay) so experienced. And the action movies are so complex in Bollywood, and so elaborate, even more than Hollywood, he said. Bilall also spoke warmly about his time with Sanjay in Mumbai and said the actor introduced him to several authentic places in the city. Hes just like a brother. When I was in Mumbai with him, I just fell in love. He showed and took me to the authentic places, and I just fell in love. And I just want to keep on going back to India and just keep on making movies. And hopefully we can create a movie or series together. Sanjay is just unbelievably creative and is a real artist, Bilall added. Directors want to work with Shah Rukh Khan and Will Smith Adil and Bilall also revealed their admiration for Shah Rukh Khan. Their first exposure to Indian cinema came through My Name Is Khan, which resonated with them because of its themes of identity and Islamophobia after the September 11 attacks. It was such an important movie, it was after 9-11. For us, being Moroccans, being Muslim in Europe, that story really resonated with us a lot, Adil said. Bilall expressed interest in collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan in the future. It would be great to work with him. It would be awesome to make a movie with Will Smith and SRK, Bilall said. 7 Dogs follows Interpol officer Khalid Al-Azzazi, played by Ahmed Ezz, as he joins forces with Ghali Abu Dawood, portrayed by Karim Abdel Aziz, to take down an international criminal network. Salman plays Johar, a former Interpol officer who becomes an ally to the central characters. 7 Dogs is set to release in Indian theatres in Hindi and English on August 21.
