Wrestlers deserve justice like all citizens: Tovino Thomas, Anjali Menon show support
Protest While many big cricket and film stars are silent on the ongoing wrestlers protest against sexual harassment accused WFI chief Brij Bhushan, a few actors have expressed their solidarity. PTI image With three very telling photos of the recent attack on the wrestlers protesting in Delhi, Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas expressed solidarity with them, saying they deserve justice like any other citizen of the country, regardless of their achievements. He stated that the wrestlers demands for action against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers must be heard. In doing so, he became one of the few members of the Malayalam film industry to address the protest which has even garnered international attention in the past few days. A day earlier, filmmaker Anjali Menon also voiced her support for the wrestlers, saying it was heartbreaking to see them go through such humiliation. Tovino shared photos of the wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Sangeeta Phogat and Sakshi Malik, being manhandled by Delhi police and wrote in an Instagram post: They have brought us pride in international sports and fulfilled the expectations of a people. Even if you don't consider that, they should get the justice that they deserve like any other citizen in this country. They should not be neglected because the people in the opposition are too powerful. View this post on Instagram A post shared by TovinoThomas (@tovinothomas) A day earlier on Tuesday, Anjali Menon too wrote a social media post that began with the quote: The measure of a society lies in how it treats its women. She wrote that each of the protesting women wrestlers have attained glory after great struggle and deserve the justice they seek. Anjali also quoted shooter and Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, who has expressed his support for the wrestlers, with the hope that it would inspire more sports stars to come forward and demand justice for them. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anjali Menon (@anjalimenonfilms) Others from the south Indian film industries who have spoken out on behalf of the protesting wrestlers are actors Kamal Haasan and Kishore (who shot to fame with the 2022 Kannada film Kantara), and director Pa Ranjith. However, most other big names in the film industry, including Bollywood stars, have been conspicuously silent about the issue, even when angry social media users questioned them about it. At the same time, many of them had commented positively on the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, even as the protesting wrestlers weremanhandled by the police on their way to protest at the new Parliament House. The organisers of the protest, including wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia who have been at its forefront, were booked by the police on various charges including rioting. Hindi actors Aamir Khan and Priyanka Chopra, who have acted in biopics about wrestlers and boxers (Dangal based on wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, and Mary Kom on Manipuri boxer Mary Kom), were particularly criticised for their silence. Tovino too has acted in a movie about a female wrestler in Malayalam. He played the male lead in Godha, a film that told the story of a woman (played by Wamiqa Gabbi) who gets to fulfill her wrestling dreams on coming to Kerala. Incidentally, Tovino is also one of the few actors to havespoken out about the controversial film The Kerala Story, which many politicians, journalists, and viewers have criticised for spreading propaganda and misrepresenting the number of women who had been radicalised from Kerala. During a promotional event for his film 2018, based on the Kerala floods of that year, Tovino said that based on the trailer of The Kerala Story, he did not think it told the story of the state he grew up in. On the other hand, the film 2018 showed what it was like when a whole state stood together to face the floods, he said at the time. New Delhi: Delhi , the capital of the country, seems to be becoming a crematorium for Hindu girls. This is because shocking cases of Hindu girls being trapped in a love trap in the metropolis, playing with their bodies, then brutally murdered when their hearts are full. On Sunday (May 28), a 16-year-old minor girl Sakshi was brutally murdered by an eccentric Ashiq Sahil Khan in Shahbad Dairy area, after which the debate over 'love jihad' has started once again. People on social media are saying that the truth has been shown in The Kerala Story, these people prey on Hindu girls in this way. This is not the first such case, in the last few months, such cases have been reported from Delhi-NCR, many of which have been suppressed. But, those who came out shocked the country. Such as the Shraddha Walker and Nikita Tomar murders. Sahil Khan killed Sakshi in the middle of the road Sensational CCTV footage of Sakshi's murder in New Delhi has also surfaced. A 16-year-old girl was brutally murdered by a man named Sahil by stabbing her multiple knives and crushing her head with stones in Shahbad Dairy area of the capital. In the CCTV footage, it was seen that after an argument, he stopped the girl in the street and started attacking her with knives. At the same time, Sakshi's friend says that Sahil met Sakshi as a Hindu and when the killer was arrested from Bulandshahr, he still had a kalwa tied in his hand and he also wore a rudraksha garland around his neck to look Hindu. Therefore, the police is also investigating the angle of love jihad in this case. Aftab had done 35 pieces of Shraddha: Shraddha Walker, who belonged to the Dalit community, was only guilty that she had fallen in love with Aftab Amin Poonawalla and lived in 'live-in' with him while suffering all his atrocities. The country has not forgotten that heart-rending incident of 12 November 2022 in Delhi till date and will never forget it. When Delhi Police arrested Aftab Poonawala, the accused and live-in partner of Shraddha Walker in 35 pieces in South Mehrauli area. Aftab strangled Shraddha to death and then cut the body into 35 pieces and kept it in the fridge for several days. He slowly started throwing these pieces into the forests. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, a police officer had informed that during interrogation, Aftab has said that even if he is hanged for killing Shraddha, he will not regret it, because he will get place in paradise and also he will get 72 virgins in paradise.Aftab had also revealed that he had relationships with more than 20 Hindu girls during his relationship with Shraddha. The officer had also said that Aftab has confessed that he used to search for Hindu girls especially on the 'Bumble App', and prey on them. After Shraddha's murder, he brought a psychologist to his room, who was also a Hindu. He had made this Hindu girl his victim by gifting her a ring of shraddha, along with this, he has also victimized many other Hindu girls in this way. Tausif shot Nikita Tomar in the middle of the road: In October last year, 21-year-old Nikita Tomar was shot dead by two men outside Agarwal College in Faridabad's Ballabhgarh. Actually, the accused Tausif had tried to drag Nikita into the car, but when he failed, he shot her. At the same time, in the viral video of this murder, another accused Mohammad Rehan was seen dragging Tausif back into the car. The entire incident was also captured on CCTV, which later went viral on social media. According to media reports, the girl's family had told that Tauseef was pressuring Nikita to change her religion. Three years ago, a decision was taken in front of the umpires, but Tausif again tried to forcibly come in contact with the girl. He repeatedly told Nikita, 'Become a Muslim, we will get married', but when the girl did not listen to him, he shot her dead. These are the few cases that have been reported from Delhi-NCR in the recent past, if cases are listed across the country, it will become a very long list. In October 2022, a pregnant Dalit woman was gang-raped in Indore, when the woman pleaded with them and said that she was pregnant, while gang-raping, the rapists had said that Everything is valid in Islam and if these rapists are true, then these innocent sisters and daughters are going to heaven. We will continue to play with our lives and souls if strict action is not taken. But, the most surprising thing is that daughters are constantly dying in the clutches of these poor people and some people, and some politicians, shamelessly call love jihad a lie in the greed of vote bank. He is probably able to say this because Shraddha, Sakshi, Nikita and none of the hundreds of such girls were his daughters. It should also be investigated whether this is not a pattern of targeting non-Muslim girls just like the targeting of Hindus and Sikhs in Kashmir? 'America did the right thing with Laden..', NIA said while seeking death sentence for Yasin Malik
New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has demanded the hanging of terrorist Yasin Malik, the chief of the terrorist organization Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). The NIA had approached the High Court seeking death penalty in terror funding, which saw a heated debate on Monday (May 29). Even after heated arguments, the court has sent a notice to Yasin Malik to know his side. Along with this, the Tihar Jail administration has been asked to present him in the court during the next hearing. While demanding the hanging of Yasin Malik, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also reminded the terrorist Osama bin Laden. On this, Tushar Mehta said that I think America did the right thing. Justice Mridul did not respond to Mehta's remarks. Let us tell you that, America killed terrorist Bin Laden and threw his body into the sea. Yasin Malik also brutally killed 4 unarmed officers of the Indian Air Force and confessed this on TV. After this, on the invitation of the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Yasin Malik also went to the PM's residence and met him, which caused a lot of ruckus. Till then, Yasin had not been arrested, but was being talked to. Apart from the killing of Air Force officers, Yasin is also accused of killing Kashmiri Hindus in 1990. However, after the change of government at the Center, Yasin Malik is currently lodged in Tihar Jail and is serving a life sentence. On May 25, the trial court sentenced him to life imprisonment. He has been found guilty of waging war against India. The NIA has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the trial court's decision. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the NIA, said that the crime committed by Yasin Malik falls under the category of heinous. If this crime is also not categorised as the heinous, then who will be kept? If the death sentence is not given in this case, then tomorrow all the terrorists will come forward and accept their mistake and apologize. In this way, those terrorists will escape. Shweta Basu Prasad feels mediocrity is celebrated in Indian showbiz
Shweta Basu Prasad has always wanted to avoid the interest rate competition. That is why she is unconcerned about the current practice of casting someone based on how many Instagram followers they have. 'Mediocrity is celebrated to a new level,' she feels. She says, I know about it. It is fair for people to come to your profile and check how you look right now. 10-20 years ago people used to go door to door, with their portfolios. Now that has just become digital, people come to your profile and see how you look. But to do something you dont believe in just for the heck of numbers... I am not sure I would want to participate in that. With saying 'not a healthy culture' she continues, It is very weird that this is going to get you numbers and someone will cast you on the basis of this. This is the nepotism debate- somebody is again being preferred for their numbers and not talent. How do I react to that? About Mediocrity is celebrated, she says, I am not surprised such agencies go to new actors and tell them to do this and that, And those new people think thats what is going to get them numbers and work. I think this is a big hoax, what if there is no Instagram tomorrow? Tragic accident in Assam, 7 engineering students died on the spot, 6 injured in road accident
At least seven students of Assam Engineering College (AEC) , Jalukbari, Guwahati, lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Assam's Guwahati late on Sunday (May 28). The tragic road accident took place when 10 AEC students were going towards Khanapara in a rented SUV car from their institute. According to the report, a student named Kaushik Barua was driving the car at high speed and suddenly he lost control and hit the roadside divider. The car then rammed into another pick-up van coming from the other side. 'There is gender discrimination in Bollywood': Adah Sharma opens up on industry
Bollywood actress Adah Sharma is in the news these days about her film The Kerala Story. The film has collected 200 crores at the box office. After the film became a blockbuster, Adah has been giving constant interviews. Apart from Hindi, she has also worked in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam industries. Adah said that she has worked in every industry. Where good people meet and bad people too. Adah says that there is bias on the basis of gender, especially in Bollywood. Where actresses are called to the set before the actor. Adah revealed this in one of her interviews. She was asked what is the thing in the industry that she does not like. I worked with people from north and south, some were amazing, some were not. It depends on who's in front. If your director is good, no matter what the language, everything is good, but if the director is not good, then everything is not good. I have met good and bad people everywhere. Adah feels that gender bias should be addressed before equal fees in Bollywood. I find it very strange that they first call the girl on the set and then say, 'Ok, wait.' When they see it's okay, they call the actor's manager and ask herto come on the set and the girl is already there. I feel discriminated on the basis of gender. I don't enjoy working in such an environment. 'The Kerala Story' is directed by Sudipto Sen. The film had to face criticism for calling it propaganda. It was surrounded by controversies even before its release. However, it did not make any difference to the audience and there was a huge crowd of people in the theaters. Karnataka college asks students to watch The Kerala Story mandatorily, later backtracks
Controversy The principal of the college in Karnatakas Bagalkote district said that instructions asking women students to watch The Kerala Story were withdrawn after government officials intervention. Image for representation/PTI A college in Ilkal city of Karnatakas Bagalkote district, Shri Vijay Mahantesh Ayurvedic Medical College, issued a notice to its women students on Tuesday, May 23, instructing them to attend a mandatory screening of the controversial film The Kerala Story at a local theatre. However, the notice was withdrawn after the local tahsildar and Bagalkote Deputy Commissioner intervened and asked to revoke it, the colleges principal KC Das told TNM. The notice was withdrawn around 11.30 pm. Students did not attend the screening, and attended their afternoon classes as usual, said Das. The screening had initially been scheduled for 12 pm on Wednesday, May 24 at Ilkal towns Srinivas Talkies. The notice issued by the college on Tuesday said it was cancelling all classes after 11 am on Wednesday, to enable students to attend the screening. All of you must see the movie, it said, addressing the lady students of the college. On learning about the mandatory screening, a citizens organisation named Jagruta Nagarikaru Karnataka wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, condemning the colleges move. Our question is what is the need to show the controversial and hate-mongering movie The Kerala Story for free, when it is full of false details, the letter said. While acknowledging that cinema is a means of entertainment, the impact it has on viewers should also be recognised, the letter said. It called on the state government to take action against the institution, and prevent it from organising screenings of movies like The Kerala Story in future. The letter was signed by Kannada writers K Marulasiddappa and SG Siddaramayya, educationist Niranjanaradhya VP and others. While there are public records of only six women from Kerala joining ISIS, of which only one woman was a Hindu, the film obfuscates these cases with those of religious conversions for other reasons. Keralas Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has stated that the film is a product of the Sanghs lie factory. He also slammed the movie for being an attempt by the Sangh to humiliate Kerala before the rest of the world. The Chief Minister further said, Propaganda films and their otherisation of Muslims should be viewed in the context of various efforts made by the Sangh Parivar to gain an advantage in electoral politics in Kerala. Some private schools may force pupils to watch The Kerala Story: CPM
It alleged that the fringe groups were even planning to post inflammatory speeches against the Muslim community. It appealed to the Delhi education minister to stop this practice. NEW DELHI: The CPI(M) Delhi State Committee has written a letter to the Delhi education minister raising concern that principals of certain private schools in Delhi were being forced by their management to book tickets for mass shows for children for the controversial movie The Kerala Story. It alleged that the fringe groups were even planning to post inflammatory speeches against the Muslim community. It appealed to the minister to stop this practice. Private schools in Delhi are mobilizing students to watch The Kerala Story in cinema halls specially booked by them for this purpose. After the screening of the movie, a few activists make inflammatory speeches against the Muslim community in front of the audience. Innocent students are being exposed to an agenda of hate and propaganda that dehumanises a certain community, it said. This forced herding of students for the purpose of watching a controversial movie is not only ethically wrong but also against the spirit of our Constitution and traditions of communal harmony, read the letter. We have come across a case from Sai Memorial School, Geeta Colony, where the school administration is organizing the screening of the movie, and booked an entire cinema hall for the purpose. We are also told that principals of private schools are being directed by the management of the schools to arrange the screening of this film for their students, the letter further said. The CPI(M) requested the education minister to intervene in the matter and take appropriate steps to stop this attempt to poison the minds of innocent school children.
After SC order, The Kerala Story opens in a few theatres in Tamil Nadu
Controversy The Supreme Court of India on May 18 had instructed the Tamil Nadu government to provide protection to theatres, after they withdrew screenings of the controversial film. A day after the Supreme Court of India instructed the Tamil Nadu government to provide protection to theatres screening the controversial film The Kerala Story, select theatres in Chennai opened a small number of shows. It is unclear whether theatres in other cities in the state are following suit. Speaking to TNM, Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association president Tiruppur Subramaniam said, To my knowledge, no theatre in Tiruppur (where he is based) is screening the film. Distributors themselves have not bought the film. In general, Hindi films in Tamil Nadu have only limited buyers. In the last two years, hardly any Hindi film has done well here. On May 7, the Association decided to stop screening The Kerala Story, citing law and order concerns. Earlier this week, The Tamil Nadu government told the Supreme Court that the film was removed from the theatres due to the poor response. Responding to the petition by the makers of the film, who had alleged that the film was banned in Tamil Nadu, the state told the Supreme Court that the filmmakers had falsely stated that the government had imposed a ban. The apex court had been hearing a petition by the filmmakers against the official ban on the film in West Bengal. At the time of Tamil Nadu Multiplex Owners withdrawing screenings, a well-known film tracker confirmed to TNM that The Kerala Story had opened shows only in Chennai, its suburban areas and in Coimbatore during its initial release on May 5. On Friday, a Chennai-based theatre owner who wished to remain anonymous told TNM they had decided not to screen the controversial film. The Supreme Courts decision comes at a time when the films director Sudipto Sen called the northern part of Kerala which has large Muslim populations a hub for a terror network. Sudipto, while interacting with the press on May 17, also said, Two Keralas exist. One is like a postcard backwaters, beautiful landscapes, Kalaripayattu, dance, martial arts, elephants, etc. This is the Kerala that the whole world knows about. There is another Kerala, the northern part comprising Malappuram, Kasaragod, and Kozhikode, which connects to south Karnataka, including Mangaluru. This is the hub of a terror network. SC stays West Bengal govts ban on The Kerala Story
Supreme Court The bench stated that it is the responsibility of the state government to maintain law and order, especially since the film has received certification from CBFC The Supreme Court stayed the West Bengal government's ban on the movie 'The Kerala Story' on Thursday, asserting that statutory provisions should not be employed to eward public intolerance. The bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, stated that it is the responsibility of the state government to maintain law and order, especially since the film has received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). During the hearing, the court emphasized that poorly received films typically fail at the box office. The bench, which included justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala, cautioned against exploiting legal provisions to prioritize public intolerance, as it would set a precedent for other films facing similar challenges. Senior advocate Harish Salve, representing the film producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, argued that states cannot challenge the CBFC's certification of a movie. He highlighted that no statutory appeal has been filed against the certification, referring to previous judgments that established the Supreme Court's lack of authority to overrule CBFC certifications. The Supreme Court heard cross-pleas in the case, with the film's producer challenging the ban on its screening in West Bengal and theater owners in Tamil Nadu refusing to show the movie in the state. Journalist Qurban Ali also challenged the Kerala High Court's decision to deny a stay on the film's release.'The Kerala Story,' featuring Adah Sharma, was released in theaters on May 5. Directed by Sudipto Sen, the film portrays a narrative of women from Kerala who were allegedly coerced into converting to Islam and recruited by the terrorist organization ISIS.

Provide security to theatres screening The Kerala Story: SC to Tamil Nadu govt
News While the film wasnt banned by the Tamil Nadu government, the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association had earlier refused to screen the film citing potential law and order problems and poor audience response. The Supreme Court on Thursday, May 18 directed the Tamil Nadu government to provide additional security to theatres screening the controversial film The Kerala Story. The court also stayed the West Bengal governments ban on the film. While the Tamil Nadu government did not ban the film, the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association refused to screen the film citing potential law and order problems and poor audience response. When the makers of the film moved the court alleging a ban on the film in Tamil Nadu as well, the state government told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that theatre owners had voluntarily stopped screening the film from May 7 onwards, due to poor response to the film which didnt have any well-known actors. In Tamil Nadu, additional security can be provided for every cinema hall and requisite arrangements can be made for moviegoers who want to see the film. No steps shall be taken by Tamil Nadu or its officers or instrumentalities including police to prevent the screening of film, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said, according to LiveLaw. We intend to stay the order of the state of West Bengal. With respect to Tamil Nadu, we will direct them to not directly or indirectly ban it, he said. The Tamil Nadu government also submitted on Tuesday that it had deployed police officers outside some multiplexes to avoid any hindrance to people who wished to watch the film. The state government also asked the filmmakers to provide a document to show that the government had banned the film while denying that it had imposed a shadow ban. In West Bengal, the film was banned on May 8, three days after its release. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee said that the movie was banned to avoid any incident of hatred and violence, and to maintain peace in the state. The state also told the court that The Kerala Story is based on manipulated facts and contains hate speech in several scenes, which might cause disharmony between communities.
