Do cats really hate aluminium foil? What makes them startle and what science says

Aluminium foil can startle cats into avoiding countertops, but the reaction has less to do with fear and more with sensory overload. Veterinarians say the foils high-frequency crinkle, unfamiliar texture and reflective surface can overwhelm cats finely tuned hearing and instincts. The effect, however, is usually temporary, as most cats adapt once the novwelty fades.
