Supreme Court recognises menstrual health as a fundamental right

The Supreme Court has recognised menstrual health as a fundamental right under Article 21. The court directed all schools, government and private to provide separate toilets, clean water, free biodegradable sanitary pads, and safe disposal facilities. Schools must also set up menstrual hygiene corners with emergency supplies. The court said lack of such facilities affects students dignity, health, and access to education. It added that financial constraints cannot be used as an excuse for noncompliance. Private schools may lose recognition if they fail to follow the guidelines.
