Chief Election Commissioner can only be removed like SC judge: ECI to Apex Court

In a nearly 250-page joint affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on late Monday (October 26, 2026), the ECI, CEC Gyanesh Kumar, and the two Election Commissioners asserted that any attempt to restrain the functioning of the CEC will be contrary to law. They stressed that the CEC can only be removed through the same strict impeachment process required for a Supreme Court judge.
