US midterm elections 2026: Democrats gain ground in key Senate battlegrounds, lead in five Republican-held states

Polls show Democrats gaining strength in key Senate races ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The New York Times/Siena University surveys indicate leads for Democrats in Texas, Kansas, Maine, and Ohio. Voter dissatisfaction with President Trump and economic concerns are influencing these trends. Overall, Democrats need to flip at least four Republican-held seats for control of the Senate. Final voter decisions will greatly impact these midterm election outcomes.
