SC refuses to entertain PIL seeking expeditious disposal of Tamil Nadu election petitions

The Supreme Court declined a petition for faster disposal of election disputes. It refused to direct the Madras High Court to expedite 54 election petitions. The court stated that entertaining such a plea would set a bad precedent. Petitioners were granted liberty to approach the High Court directly for relief. The plea sought disposal within six months as per the Representation of the People Act.
