MLC results are out, but how does the election work? Who votes, how are members chosen?

In the recent Legislative Council elections, the BJP secured 13 seats across multiple states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The Samajwadi Party and NCP followed with five and two seats respectively, while other parties earned one seat each. MLC elections differ significantly from Assembly elections, as they are not decided by a direct vote from the general public. Members are chosen through various categories, including local authorities and graduates constituencies.
