Lord of the Rings triology made $2.92 billion but Samwise Gamgee star Sean Astin got so little that he had to sell his house

Sean Astin earned minimal money from the successful Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was forced to sell his house due to his low trilogy earnings. Other cast members like Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom also received modest pay. Astin is interested in returning for new projects at a better rate. He also expressed interest in a future political career.
