Lone TMC MLA walks out of Assam Assembly against 'malicious intention' of government behind UCC Bill

Sherman Ali Ahmed, the sole Trinamool Congress MLA in Assam, staged a walkout from the Assembly. He opposed certain clauses of the Uniform Civil Code Bill. Ahmed stated the proposed law has malicious intent and violates fundamental rights. He welcomed some provisions but insisted on broader discussions for others. The Assam government tabled the UCC Bill to standardize personal laws.
