Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma said the SIT had collected sensitive material from multiple sources, but that further investigation would require support from Interpol and access to classified information from the Government of India and Parliament. In view of these limitations, the state government has decided to hand over the case to a central agency to be selected by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
