Baby stars shine bright: JWST detects unexpected ultraviolet glow

Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope have spotted high energy ultraviolet radiation around five infant stars, or protostars, in the Ophiuchus star forming area. These stars, still accumulating mass from surrounding molecular clouds, were not anticipated to emit UV radiation. Researchers found out that external sources like nearby massive stars were not responsible, indicating the radiation arrives internally.
