1996 Rajasthan blast: SC sets aside death penalty of convict, acquits lifer

The Supreme Court ordered a fresh trial for a death row convict in a 1996 bus blast case. It also acquitted a lifer and dismissed state appeals against six acquittals. The court cited ineffective counsel and passage of time for the retrial order. The new trial for Abdul Hameed will be conducted by a designated court. The apex court aims for the trial to conclude within one year.
