Why has the claimed dark matter discovery sparked debate, caution?

Physicists dont know what dark matter is made up of, but one hypothesis is its made of a new type of subatomic particle called WIMPs. According to physicists, WIMPs barely interact with normal matter and not at all with light. The trick to finding them then is the high-energy particles released when two WIMPs annihilate each other
